Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

He [Dr. Jason Bromer] eased my husband's mind with his incredible scientific facts and figures. On top of his tremendous knowledge and experience, he's a real person, with a big heart. I know he's pulling for us and adjusts our treatments as needed for the best outcome. When a doctor calls you from vacation on his personal cell phone, you know you have a keeper!!!
I can't even say enough about the nursing staff at SGF Frederick. Allison is my lifeline and I could not do this without her. She is so organized and candid and answers even my most ridiculous TMI questions!!!...Michelle the phlebotomist is one of kind. I have THE WORST veins and she hits them every time - all the while chatting with me about our passions for organic foods and beauty products!! When we had our miscarriage, all of the women from the office: Allison, Michelle, Zoe, Jen and Dr. Bromer came in a cried with us. They are family to us and we are soooo happy to have them on our team!!!
How was your experience with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Doctor Bromer was able to ease my mind by telling me he believed we could have a biological baby. He eased my husband's mind with his incredible scientific facts and figures. On top of his tremendous knowledge and experience, he's a real person, with a big heart. I know he's pulling for us and adjusts our treatments as needed for the best outcome. When a doctor calls you from vacation on his personal cell phone, you know you have a keeper!!!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Ask questions. No matter how scary or intimate. He's a doctor and a human and will answers them all, honestly.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
After a spontaneous pregnancy resulted in my 1st ectopic pregnancy, Dr. Bromer called me from his personal cell, from vacation, while I was in the hospital. I am currently I going round 3 of IVF with him and I am confident we will have a baby. He is so compassionate and empathetic - I can't imagine doing his journey without him!

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I have found Dr Bromer to be very considerate and straightforward. I absolutely trust his decisions. Another thing I appreciate is that he is aware that we pay out of pocket for all services and medication and actually takes that into consideration. It's nice to deal with someone who is realistic about that aspect as well...I was monitored frequently and dosages were adjusted several times. One egg retrieval complete, 12 eggs, 11 mature, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to blast. Fresh transfer at 5 days was unsuccessful, doing first frozen embryo transfer right now, using IM injections of del estrogen and progesterone and oral estrace to prepare/maintain lining.
My nurse [at Shady Grove] is available for questions via email which I find tremendously helpful. If she's not in the office she always has an auto responder saying exactly when she will return and who to contact should you have a more urgent question. She helps adjust protocols to work around travel commitments. She always returns my emails and calls...We received a 10% discount on all services through their shared help program. Shared risk IVF with ICSI $19800. Meds not included. IUIs $1440 HSG $621 Follow up appointments with Dr Bromer $140 (he was kind enough to do the last over the phone for free)

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Just be aware that he is willing to work with your obgyn, if it's applicable to your situation, to pursue lower tech treatments first.
Describe the protocols Jason Bromer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
I did 3 cycles of clomid with timed intercourse (no monitoring), then 3 IUIs with clomid and a trigger shot. 2 of those IUIs yielded just one, fast developing follicle. None were successful. Now pursuing IVF. Stimmed with gonal f, menopur, and cetritide. I was monitored frequently and dosages were adjusted several times.

Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The Shared Risk Program is one of the best things about IVF at Shady Grove. I don't know if we would have pursued further treatment otherwise. They are really good at informing you of results via phone but they do not have an online patient portal where I can look up past results, which is annoying. They are responsive to phone messages. I once left one at 11:30 on a Saturday night and got a call back at 8am Sunday morning. You can do monitoring appointments at any of their locations even if your Dr isn't based there. This is convenient because if you are doing some of the more advanced treatments you may have to go in daily or almost daily for ultrasound and bloodwork and some locations work better on some days. Not all locations are open on weekends or offer all services so you may have to travel a little further than you like sometimes. I rarely see my Dr in person, but he reviews my results and makes treatment decisions, which works fine. If you want to physically see your Dr everytime you go in, you probably won't.

Describe Jason Bromer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Dr Bromer recommended eSET, but ultimately left the choice to me. I followed his recommendation to transfer one embryo for my fresh transfer and Frozen transfer.

[Dr. Jason Bromer] is a kind and caring physician. He went through our whole cycle and plan for treatment. He answered all questions and was knowledgeable in infertility. Our two IUI cycles were pretty normal, they just didn't work for us to get pregnant. He was a great doctor even if it didn't allow us to conceive.... He was thorough and informative. He was very nice and really cared about us as people and patients.
The clinic [Shady Grove-Frederick] is clean, new and well equipped for every need. They front desk workers are welcoming and nice. They have separate people to draw the blood so you don't have to wait long. The staff is organized and helpful. The rooms, waiting room and bathrooms are clean and we'll maintained.... All of the nursing staff are caring and kind people. They were knowledgeable with our treatment plan and also on fertility and infertility. They used email to communicate which was great and easy to do. Also had quick response time. Their actions and words really reflected how much they loved their jobs and wanted their patients to experience pregnancy.

Just be honest and ask questions. Sometimes it's easy to get lost in the terminology and can be overwhelming but if you don't understand something, ask.

Describe the protocols Jason Bromer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
With my PCOS, I had to be on metformin for a couple months before we started any of the IUI cycles. Once it was time to do them, I would have a period induced then was then prescribed and took a similar medicine to Clomid. I had many intravaginal exams to check my ovaries and egg counts. When the time was right, I have myself the injection to ovulate. 36 hours later, we would go to the office for our procedure. I took progesterone for 15 days afterwards until it was time for the pregnancy test. I didn't end up pregnant but I had a perfect cycle from start to finish.

Our insurance covered the pre procedure visits which would have been around $600 each time. Our IUI procedure was around $1800 but they offer financial discount and we got 30% off.

We had special requests to only fertalize a few eggs at a time due to our religious beliefs and she [Dr. Esposito] was totally in board with it. She cares about us and wants to make us happy...she always heard me when I spoke though. She had time for me when I get an appt slot with her. She explains things very clearly and throughly. Highly recommend her. I just wish I was able to contact her more easily for a specific question...she Is very busy and hard to get to talk to but great bed side manner..
The sgfc [Shady Grove - Frederick] strengths are they are good communicators most of the time. The receptionists are fantastic!! ...My current nurse has good and bad days. After I brought light to the issue she has been much better if a communicator and more compassionate. I also thinks the nurses are expected too much off and are potentially over worked. The nursing staff as a whole I can't say enough good things about!!...there is a lot of financial options. Shared risk program which we did twice, shared help discount which we always received 25-30% off which can be combined with the shared tick program sometimes.
How was your experience with Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
We had special requests to only fertalize a few eggs at a time due to our religious beliefs and she was totally in board with it. She cares about us and wants to make us happy but also try's to seat us of making potential mistakes with decisions. She always heard me when I spoke though. She had time for me when I get an appt slot with her. She explains things very clearly and throughly. Highly recommend her. I just wish I was able to contact her more easily for a specific question. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Trust her
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
She treated me good, she Is very busy and hard to get to talk to but great bed side manner
Describe the protocols Melissa Esposito used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
My first ivf was with my husbands sperm and it didn't take. I was in progesterone suppositories and estrace pills. My second cycle was with donor sperm. It much different but ended on miscarriage. Later the donor was recalled due to an issue with another pregnancy. My 3-7 cycles we did an implantation protocol consisting of progesterone in oil injections, estrodiol injections and lovenox blood thinner injections. I also did 1-2 endometrial scratches to help with implantation. 2 miscarriages, 1 live birth, and I'm still in my 2 week wait with my last cycle.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Tony)
My current nurse has good and bad days. After I brought light to the issue she has been much better if a communicator and more compassionate. I also thinks the nurses are expected too much off and are potentially over worked. The nursing staff as a whole I can't say enough good things about!!
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The sgfc strengths are they are good communicators most of the time. The receptionists are fantastic!! I have. Even a patient for 7 or so years and have gotten to know most by first name basis and most are great. You also have to take into consideration that they all have lives too and they are allowed to have off days like the rest of us.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Each cycle was different. The there is a lot of financial options. Shared risk program which we did twice, shared help discount which we always received 25-30% off which can be combined with the shared tick program sometimes. There is fertility finance that you can get loans through and the case foundation and savannah grants.
Describe Melissa Esposito's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
She prefers eSET however I have always transferred 2 (except once I transferred one due to online having one) she was willing to listen to my request and granted it after telling me the risks is twin preganancy
What specific things went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
It's really only with the one nurse. The clinic as a while I have been fine with.

Dr. Roth was very business like in our consultation, but not in a negative way. She reviewed our extensive family history, my prior medical diagnoses and then asked about our goals and hopes. We were given preliminary options and they were moderately explained, as well as the testing we would need to complete before the start of treatment...Throughout the 3 months of treatment, I only met with Dr Roth one time, and did the rest of my communications through my nurse
The clinic [Shady Grove] has quite a few patients, so be prepared to wait. That said, they do a great job at finding an available appt ASAP if needed date. They also have great hours so you can go before work. They tend to make apts as quick and painless...When I was closer to my IUI date, I was told my two nurses that I was to take my trigger shot that night and to schedule my IUI in two days. However, in the afternoon another nurse called and acted like she had no idea why that nurse would say that, and that I was to continue medication for several more days. It was very upsetting.
How was your experience with Lauren Roth at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Roth was very business like in our consultation, but not in a negative way. She reviewed our extensive family history, my prior medical diagnoses and then asked about our goals and hopes. We were given preliminary options and they were moderately explained, as well as the testing we would need to complete before the start of treatment. After testing of both myself and my husband, a plan was laid out, but this was not shared with my by Dr. Roth. During my IUI treatment, there were several setbacks and the cycle lasted over 50 days. Dr. Roth did not contact me one time, which I did think was odd, but I felt so taken care of by my nurse, that I didn’t question it or request to speak to Dr. Roth. When I received mypositce beta, Dr. Roth personally called to congratulate me. In my follow up appointments before graduating from Shady Grove, I never saw Dr. Roth once. When I graduated, Dr. Roth once again called to congratulate me and give us well wishes.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lauren Roth at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
She knows what she is doing and I would absolutely trust her with my care again, but don’t expect to get much besides the bare bones from her
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lauren Roth at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Throughout the 3 months of treatment, I only met with Dr Roth one time, and did the rest of my communications through my nurse
Describe the protocols Lauren Roth used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
Dr. Roth’s goal was to get me to ovulate, as I have PCOS and she speculated I had never ovulated before in my life. We took a low and slow approach, as I had 30+ follicles on each ovary and was at a very high risk of over stimulating my ovary. She shared that while that is perfect for IVF, if we wanted to move forward with IUI (which is what we wanted) that over production of eggs, would cause a delay in treatment as they will not preform an IUI with more than3 eggs (usually they will not preform if there are more than 2 eggs). I was started on letrozole and ending up needed 2 rounds of this medication. I appreciated that when I was not producing after one round, instead of starting a new cycle, Dr. Roth allowed me to continue, just with an additional round of medication. When my one follicle was close but not quite large enough after finishing two rounds, Dr. Roth added in gonal f injections. A trigger shot and progesterone supplements rounded off our treatment plan.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Allison Catalani )
Allison was there to answer all of my questions, and in a timely manner. I would email Allison day and night with questions and concerns.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The clinic has quite a few patients, so be prepared to wait. That said, they do a great job at finding an available appt ASAP if needed date. They also have great hours so you can go before work. They tend to make apts as quick and painless
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lauren Roth at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Very thankfully, my medical insurance covered my treatment. I was in charge of paying copays at each visit and was required to pay on full front injectable medication, as my insurance did not cover an oral/injectable combo cycle

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
When I was closer to my IUI date, I was told my two nurses that I was to take my trigger shot that night and to schedule my IUI in two days. However, in the afternoon another nurse called and acted like she had no idea why that nurse would say that, and that I was to continue medication for several more days. It was very upsetting.

Meet him [Dr. Bromer] 3 times to discuss options but never felt heard, he never made me feel comfortable and could not figure out why I was unable to become pregnant....I feel dismissed, never got an answer why I could not get pregnant, was not sympathetic with our jpurney. The last meeting he told us that his wife and him also had fertility issues. Would have been nice to have known upfront as that was the appointment he was relatable to.
[Shady Grove] Unorganized, rude, overpriced and charged you more than you were told and then would send you a refund after you advocated that your co-pay was not what was quoted. I called the financial department many times and I would not receive return calls for days....Lost paperwork, when I left Dr. Bromers office for a different clinic the paperwork was not sent. My results were not communicated to me in a timely fashion.

Our 1st IUI was not medicated, 2 others were with Clomid, estrace, did a trigger but cannot remember the name.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Toni was my nurse, she was unorganized, did not really know what protocol we were going to do. She was out of the office on maternity leave for a couple months and no one told us and when she returned she snapped at me and said I was rude to her. She told me that her pregnancy was not planned and said that none of her 4 pregnancies were and it would happen for us also. That was not something to tell a same sex couple who are struggling with unexplained fertility.

Dr. Bromer is a sweet and gentle man. He will be honest in a compassionate way. He is understanding about financial limitations. He is a good communicator. He doesn't mind you emailing him and he will be timely about getting back to your emails.... He did paperwork for me so I could apply for grants. He emailed me about foundations that were offering grants when I couldn't even get the financial counselor to do that for me.
I did not like nurse Catalani [at Shady Grove-Frederick]. She seemed disorganized. She put me down for timed intercourse once when I told her we were doing IUI. She called me and left me a voicemail message once with another woman's test results. She never seemed compassionate toward me... The financial coordinator only got back to me once in a while when I called or emailed, although she is a nice woman.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer doesn't seem to see things as better than they are, like my first fertility doctor, so go to him if you want the truth.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer has been such a nice, caring and honest Dr. He told me the sad truth but in a compassionate way. He always checks emails I send him in a timely manner and even if he is on vacation! He did paperwork for me so I could apply for grants. He emailed me about foundations that were offering grants when I couldn't even get the financial counselor to do that for me.

Some of the nurses are not compassionate and seem disorganized. The financial coordinator only got back to me once in a while when I called or emailed, although she is a nice woman. The financial coordinator was not realistic about my husband's infertility and my first fertility doctor, Dr. Esposito, was not realistic in the least about my husband's infertility.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
They charged about $350 for IUI. That was with sperm cleansing. They charged like around $250 I think for a transvaginal ultrasound.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
One time, I wasn't told by my nurse that my husband needed to sign a paper before I got IUI and it was such a hassle to get him to sign the paper bf the IUI. I talked to Dr. Esposito in 2014 about the antibodies attacking my husband's sperm bc he had a successful reversal but I still couldn't get pregnant. She said, " The Doctor I trained with didn't believe in them." So it sounded like Dr. Esposito didn't believe in antibodies attacking the sperm either. Dr. Bromer told me that the antibodies have attacked my husband's sperm and made the sperm unable to bind with and penetrate my eggs. I emailed the financial coordinator in 2017 about foundations that offer grants and she never got back to me so I asked Dr. Bromer instead.

Dr. Bromer is truly passionate about what he does, and cares for his patients. He was always honest with me about risks, and potential outcomes, allowing me to make an informed consent...Don't hesitate to be open and honest with him. He is very non-judgemental and provides direct information with compassion...I don't remember the exact protocol, but over about 17 days I injected myself with agonists to produce follicles, and went in for ultrasounds and bloodwork to follow my estrogen level and number of follicles. I then started a medication to stop ovulation. Once there were a lot of follicles, I took medication to mature them and two days later had the egg retrieval.
It [Shady Grove] was a well-oiled machine, but there were limited hours on the weekend so you had to schedule around that. I spent more time waiting ok the weekends, but was usually in and out during the week...My primary nurse did a great job keeping me informed and also helped me prepare well for each step. She was usually available for questions but made sure I had access to a nurse after hours. The one time I needed to call that line the staff was quite helpful in walking me through the next steps in my protocol.
How was your experience with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer is kind, knowledgeable and highly skilled. I am very pleased with my experience with him, and would use him again without hesitation, if needed. Because I lived far from his office, he was able to monitor me remotely from a different Shady Grove location. I was still able to reach him whenever I had a question.

Any questions i had, toni was always there to answer all my annoying or repeated questions! They are truely the best nurses and staff around! I dont think anybody could beat my experience with them! Again i just absolutely love them and couldnt be more thankful for them not giving up on me and being there for me through all the ups and downs! They are forever family to me and my soon to be twins!

They treated me like family. The positive pregnancy beta was the best day and the hardest day because i knew that meant i wouldnt be seeing them anymore. I couldnt thank them enough for what they did for my husband and I and how they made me feel. Even during all the negatives, they were the ones that helped keep my strength to keep going. We will forever be grateful!

Pills- clomid... my eggs took awhile to respond Clomid plus some injections- same issue Injections- they would grow good but sometimes too many so as soon as dose was lowered to take away the risk of over stimulating, only one or two would continue. Injections for ivf- great results. Ended with 6 good embryos. Two that we transferred and 4 that we froze!

My first IUI cycle [with Shady Grove Fertility] was canceled due to overstimulation so he cut back on the dosage of Clomid. He added injectable medications for IUI cycles after the oral medications resulted in negative pregnancy tests...For my FET I was part of a study and used vaginal progesterone with a positive result and a live birth...Dr. Bromer was very compassionate and took the time to talk and answered any questions we had. He didn’t make us feel rushed to get in and out of the office. He was very supportive after we lost our twins from our fresh cycle at 22 weeks gestation.
Everyone from the front desk receptionist, the nurses, doctors and those in the lab [at Shady Grove] were always very friendly and greeted us with a smile. Monday’s were always very busy days so you could almost guarantee there was going to be a little bit of a wait in the waiting room...Jeannette [nurse] was wonderful and very compassionate. She always returned calls the same day and was very helpful.

I honestly can not think of any weaknesses for Dr. Bromer. He was always available when I had any questions and available through email when the office was closed. He was always quick to respond. Both my husband and I felt very comfortable being in his care. After our loss we went in to speak to him 6 months later and he truly cared and you could see him holding back tears.

My first IUI cycle was canceled due to overstimulation so he cut back on the dosage of Clomid. He added injectable medications for IUI cycles after the oral medications resulted in negative pregnancy tests. We had to do so many IUI’s due to insurance before we could move on to IVF. It’s hard for me to remember the medications for the IVF cycle, but in the end I had 4 blastocysts. For my FET I was part of a study and used vaginal progesterone with a positive result and a live birth.

Monday was a monitoring day and it got a little busy in the waiting area. We always tried to get an early appointment due to working night shift and going after work.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
It’s hard to remember the exact costs but I know the FET was $4,600 and we were part of a research study so the medications were free. Our fresh IVF cycle was somewhere around $10,000. My insurance at the time covered a large part of the medications.
Describe Jason Bromer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
My doctor strongly encouraged eSET when we decided to transfer two embryos. He went over all the risks of a multiple pregnancy.

Dr. Bromer always follows up with us even if he was not present at the visit. He has relayed information to us even while he was on vacation. He has called us personally even outside of his work hours to make sure that we were not worried or misunderstanding any information. He is compassionate and trustworthy and my husband and I have been very blessed to have him as our physician!...I do wish that it would have been Dr. Bromer who preformed the Embryo Transfer himself rather than a different doctor, However I certainly understand that this may not have been a possibility for him on the day that my transfer occured.
{re: Shady Grove] The donor egg billing staff was very rude with the exception of Jasmine who was phenomenal. Linda at the front desk seems often less than thrilled that you are there. The donor egg and gestational coordinator Leslie Polanco was not pleasant to speak with at all. She was rude over the phone on a number of occasions. She seemed consistently motivated to slow down the process and was often shocked at how quickly we were able to complete the tasks given to us. My husband, donor and myself all recall feeling like she did not want this process to be a success for us which was extremely discouragibg and highly unnecessary.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
We were seemingly always down to the wire rushing around to make sure medication was ready to be picked up etc. We did have to start a medication late due to medication not being called in on time. We had a sonogram although very early (because we had been misinformed by the Rockville office e to schedule our ultrasound what ended up being 1.week too early. The techs at our 5.5 week ultrasound seemed in constant disagreement with one another. I had to go to multiple different rooms to get two separate ultrasounds because it seemed like they did not know what they were doing. We were told that we may be having an ectopic pregnancy which we were later informed by our Dr. That this was not a concern. We had a very poor experience that day which was unfortunate because this was to have been a very exciting moment to see our baby for the first time. Instead we ended up leaving in tears unnecessarily.

Dr. Esposito never took our infertility seriously. During my first time with her, she said, " You just need a little nudge." " It just takes longer in your 30's." I asked her about getting donor sperm b/c I knew there must be something wrong with my husband's sperm and she said, " It won't come to that." I told her about how the urologist told us that my husband's sperm has been attacked by his antibodies and Dr. Esposito said that the Dr. she trained with didn't believe in the antibodies attacking the sperm.
Some nurses [at Shady Grove-Frederick] were really nice and compassionate but I didn't feel that way about Allison Catalani. I felt like I was always telling her I wasn't pregnant and she didn't believe me. She never even said, " I am sorry," when I told her that I wasn't pregnant and I got my period. There was no compassion. She acted like she thought I would get pregnant soon. She was also disorganized. She put me down for timed intercourse once when the doctor and I knew that we were doing IUI. Once, she called my cell and left me a message with another woman's test results. She also forgot to tell me that my husband had to sign a paper before an IUI and it was a real hassle to have him get it done before the IUI could happen.
How was your experience with Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
I wrote a lot about Dr. Esposito in another earlier question. She also didn't pay attention to if the ultrasound showed old brown blood at the top of my uterus before an IUI. I found that that's not something the doctor's typically look for but it should be something the doctor's look for. I had one IUI where the nurse was about to do the IUI and she said, " You have some old blood at the top of your uterus." That should have been discovered days before the IUI and cleaned out. That wasn't the time to be told about it. The nurse did the IUI anyway but sperm don't do well trying to swim through old blood. Dr. Bromer finally told me that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
She may under estimate your infertility. Don't go to her if you want IUI or if your husband had a successful reversal and you still can't get pregnant.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
So she was implying she didn't believe in it either. I asked her what my husband could take to help his sperm and she said, " Clomid." I thought that was really weird. After I broke away from Dr. Esposito and went to Dr. Bromer, I asked him the same question and he answered it quite differently. He said my husband should take a supplement with L-Carnitine in it. Dr. Esposito never told me about Letrozole. She only told me I could take Clomid to mature more eggs for the IUI. Dr. Bromer told me that Letrozole would be a good choice for me to mature more eggs for IUI. For my first IUI with Dr. Esposito, she didn't order a blood test to check my hormones. She only wanted to go by what the transvaginal ultrasound showed. So the ultrasound make it look like the right day was day 11, but my body was not ready then. I even had old brown chunks of blood come out that day. When I had IUI's with Dr. Bromer, he always ordered a blood test and those tests showed that the right day in my cycle was the 13th day. Dr. Esposito didn't tell me that my husband should lose weight to help the sperm. My husband's sperm back then ( 2014) had a motility of 1+/2 which is below normal. In 2015, my husband started exercising and lost about 20 lbs. After that, the motility gradually increased until it was 2+/3 at the best. Dr. Esposito should have made a big deal about the motility. It is important with IUI. Dr. Esposito never mentioned that there could be a problem with my husband's sperm binding with my eggs and penetrating them. When I saw Dr. Bromer, he told me there was likely a problem with my husband's sperm being able to bind with and penetrate my eggs.
Describe the protocols Melissa Esposito used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
She wanted to use the simplest treatment. She did my first IUI without having me get the blood test to check hormones. She just wanted to see what the ultrasound showed. She didn't have me take Letrozole or Clomid.

Once, she called my cell and left me a message with another woman's test results. She also forgot to tell me that my husband had to sign a paper before an IUI and it was a real hassle to have him get it done before the IUI could happen. I would sometimes email her a question and she would email me back with as little words as possible. It seemed like she was just emailing as quickly as possible without really caring how she came across. Sometimes, she never got back to me at all and I finally found out from another nurse that I could email my doctor directly. Allison Catalani didn't tell me that. So then after that, I just emailed my doctor with questions rather than Allison Catalani.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Some nurses here are more compassionate than others. My nurse seemed to be on vacation a lot. Some doctors are better than others. Most nurses were more optimistic than they should be. Don't go into the fertility center thinking you will be successful unless you are willing to pay thousands for IVF. IUI doesn't usually work and the doctors and nurses won't tell you that.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Melissa Esposito at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
I think IUI was like $200. I think a transvaginal ultra sound was $250. I always had a bill of about $500 when I got IUI.

Dr. B [Bromer] was kind and compassionate with a delicate subject. He fully explained everything and answered all my many questions... I only saw Dr. B. during the beginning for consultation and to discuss test results. He did do my iui. I am guessing if my protocol was different I would have seen him more but nurses and ultrasound techs did all the monitoring...he calmed all my fears and created a plan I was comfortable with.
[Shady Grove] Very clean, wasnt too busy didnt have to wait too long for appointments, wonderful at drawing blood! My only negative is the billing was always confusing and hard to just get an idea of what my balance was to pay it off...His [Dr. Bromer] team fully supported me throughout the process and I was happy to have my care in hands... My first nurse Mindi was absolutely the best....IuI was 1710 (with a small 90 dollar discount) meds were around 200 through a pharmacy found by my nurse.

He [Dr. Bromer] empathized with us and understood how important this is to us to expand our family. ... He took the time to listen to our concerns and questions and allowed plenty of time to answer them. He was also realistic but positive which kept us positive. It’s a long process to get everything started as far as pre screening things, and then you have to make another appointment to come up with your plan and it just takes a while. It’s hard when you have been wanting something for so long and the process to get there takes awhile. ... Dr. Bromer was really helpful and caring about our situation. He has been always trying to find a better protocol for us... He shows a lot of compassion when our treatment didn't work, he called and made sure I was ok He is always prompt to sit down or call us to keep us update about the procedures...My two previous protocols he used Menopur, Follistim, ganirelix and I used endometrim. The first one my progesterone was too high and unfortunately the embryo did not stick. The second one we had one good egg and my progesterone were a little elevated, but he moved forward. Unfortunately did not work again.
Shady Grove Fertility Clinic, in general, is really good, all the staff is friendly and helpful. The 24 hs emergency calls are always answered and a nurse is prompt to answer our questions anytime. They always make a way to fit you in an appointment even last minutes one. Weakness: they are a little disorganized with appointments and sometimes paperwork...Toni [nurse] is very helpful always answer the e-mails right the way and if needed also gives me a call.

He [Dr. Bromer] made me feel like I was just money to be made at shady grove. He missed diagnosing me with endometriosis even though I had the symptoms and complained about a very specific pain. I had a second opinion and right away she found an endometrial cyst and said it appeared (based on my pain) that I had endometriosis.... He said since nothing was found wrong that IUI and IVF would be our only chance at getting pregnant.
Never saw the same nurses. Very impersonal. I always felt that I was bothering them [Shady Grove Fertility- Frederick]. My main contact nurse never seemed to care or show any compassion. The financial advisor was no help and was very hard to reach.... The nursing staff was very short and never seemed to care. The ladies that did the blood draws seemed the kindest.... Very expensive testing and procedures. IUIs were $1800 plus medication.

Dr. Bromer has done a wonderful job to listen and answer any and all questions or concerns we've had about ethical issues concerning our future babies.... He is very thorough and treats you with respect. No question is a dumb question and he is very compassionate. He has shown us over and over that he cares about our situation and desires to help us grow our family is the best and safest way possible.
My primary nurse [at Shady Grove] is not the most thorough with details but she is nice.... Expensive as we have no insurance coverage but the Shared Risk plan is helpful for IVF with a guarantee.... We wanted to start out slow with the least invasive options and work our way up to IVF, which we are now currently doing. He was patient and helpful to work through each phase and help us get the most for our money and time. We did 3 timed intercourse cycles with clomid and injectibles, 3 IUI's with injectibles, and now we're getting ready to start our 3rd IVF cycle with our last frozen embryo.

He [Dr. Bromer] was very nice and helpful. Does not treat you like a number. Calls you personally to check on you.He explained things in detail also was not pushy and let us decide between option rather then pushing us into something we didn't want to do...I like how he examined results after each appt and adjusted meds to what I needed ...Weaknesses sometimes when medication adjustments were needed and left in messages were hard to call back to ask questions
Strengths [at Shady Grove] are they give you a lot of information in packets in videos it's so helpful. Weaknesses sometimes when medication adjustments were needed and left in messages were hard to call back to ask questions...I saw Jeanette mainly but also saw Betsy and few others and all were so helpful. The radiology and others were very compassionate...[Monitoring Appts] they were first thing in morning and they were quick to get you in since mostly everyone is going before work.

He [Dr. Bromer] knew my case and details and was very good at relaying information...We had a great experience. He adjusted cycles as needed and was great with communicating. He was personable and answered and questions we had. He was nice, sincere, empathetic, and genuine...able to diagnose and determine a treatment plan for us in a short amount of time
Everyone was incredibly nice and polite. I did not meet a single person [at Shady Grove Fertility-Frederick] I wasn’t happy with or felt or off by. My nurse was fantastic and answered my questions in a timely manner both through email and phone calls. The bloodwork nurses were fantastic as well...We did a shared risk program and paid $22,000 for our IVF. Medication was an extra expense. Our fresh cycle was approximately $7,000 in medication. The two frozen cycles were approximately $5000 in medication.

My clinic was great with communication and empathy. Everyone was polite and knowledgeable. They were able to diagnose and determine a treatment plan for us in a short amount of time. I think future patients should not judge the clinic by their first visit. You are literally a number when you go in for a consultation, but you become family.

He [Dr. Jason Bromer] was very friendly and professional and interested in knowing what my goals were and discussing options with me on how to achieve my goals. It was nice to know that I would only have one dr rather than a series of drs manage my care...The staff [at Shady Grove] were warm and friendly and really encouraged communicating with them about any questions or concerns I might have...IUI was around 1800$, labs and medication were additional and my insurance covered some of that
