Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

She [Dr. Roth] understood the situation we are in. And try to look at every option possible to make it effective and affordable...She explains everything in great detail and will answer every question with great detail...We went through all the required testing to find out what our treatment plan would be. We told that IVF would be the only option. But wanted to try IUI for that to happen my husband needed to see a urologist. From there he put my husband in clomid. The clomid helped a little but did not enough for IUI we had helped off a bit.
Shady grove is a great clinic very knowledgeable and understanding!!! Everything is always explained and someone is always there to help in any way possible. We love shady grove fertility. They are great people...Our nurse is amazing. Always there to answer questions and provide as much information as possible. Always went above and beyond for us to make we understood everything and were comfortable.

But wanted to try IUI for that to happen my husband needed to see a urologist. From there he put my husband in clomid. The clomid helped a little but did not enough for IUI we had helped off a bit. And then came back to retest him. He count had gone up a lot. Watch allowed us to do IUI. So we moved forward with IUI cycle. I had some meds I needed to take and an injection. My husband had to do a semen Analysis for the procedure. And then they moved forward with the procedure.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Lauren Roth at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
IUI was mainly covered by insurance and most of the testing. That why we pushed for IUI. Because IVF is not covered by insurance and we were looking at thousands and thousands of dollars. Which we still are as IUI really is much of an option any more.

He placed me on Metdormin 500mg three times daily. Bloodwork/labs cycle day 3. Clomid 50mg for 5 days during my cycle days 3-7. Ultrasound/labs cycle day 11 or 12. If labs/ultrasound indicate then will do the trigger injection. Then IUI 1-2 days later I think? Prometrium twice daily, day after IUI. We did this twice. We also did one cycle of just clomid. All three cycles unsuccessful. I did have also a laproscopic ovarian cyst removal by another specialist which was recommended by Dr Bromer.

I am not sure. We had to meet a $2,000.00 dollar deductible then I believe everything was covered 80% and we were responsible for 20%.

Don’t expect her to be your best friend or cheerleader - she is committed to your care but not there to hold your hand, which for me, is ok.

Describe the protocols Lauren Roth used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
She gave us the option of trying IUI, which we declined. I felt a little unclear on the process of confirming that my tubes were completely blocked (I had only done an HSG, which is not a 100% confirmation), and why there wasn’t an option to have a procedure that unblocked them, so I had to do some digging to find that out. We opted to go for IVF. She prescribed birth control, hormone injections, and injection for triggering ovulation.

Dr. Bromer was always great to talk to. He spoke matter of factly, but was always warm and compassionate. He always took the time to answer my questions in depth and with thought. Anytime I needed more information or wanted an additional test, he would take the time to explain and/or do the testing for my reassurance...If I had a question, he would thoughtfully answer it, and let me pursue additional testing to appease me.
The [Shady Grove Fertility] billing department left something to be desired. Sometimes they took a few days to get back to you. We had insurance but I wish they would have provided a better idea of the costs prior to treatment. They also did not release every single result in the portal, which kind of drove me crazy because I'm very data driven. I had to pull every last detail of information out of them. I understand most people probably don't want or need every detail, so it's just what they're used to doing. Overall I really enjoyed the clinic and would highly recommend them.
How was your experience with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
While I was a patient out of the Pittsburgh office, I did only get to meet with Dr. Bromer a handful of times, although I did have telehealth follow up visits. I always felt he explained everything thoroughly, and I always agreed with the treatment decisions he made. If I had a question, he would thoughtfully answer it, and let me pursue additional testing to appease me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Be open and honest, and you'll get open and honest back!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?

Describe the protocols Jason Bromer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
I was started on a normal dose of a standard antagonist protocol due to my unexplained infertility. I typically had an AFC of 15 but this cycle they could only confirm 8. 150IU Gonal-F and 50IU of Menopur. I had monitoring appointments often. I did have lots of follicular growth, but it was slow. Dr. Bromer increased my dosage gradually over the next few days until I was up to 400IU Gonal-F and 150IU Menopur. After 14 days of stims, I was able to trigger with HcG, 10,000IU. I ended up with 23 follicles, 20 eggs retrieved, 17 mature, 12 made it past 5 day, ended up with 8 blastocysts with the remaining 4 that stopped developing. We ended up with 4 PGT-A tested euploid embryos, 1 low-level mosaic (which they will allow me to transfer), 2 high-level mosaic, and 1 abnormal
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The nursing staff was good. They always called on time and provided the results in a compassionate and informative way. They were good about replying back in the portal. The clinical team in the office were separate from the nursing staff. I loved the clinical team, they were always so nice and happy to see you. You could tell they truly wanted the best for you. They would always describe what they were seeing so you knew what was going on before you left.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Our insurance covered 80% of treatment, so we needed to pay the other 20% and we had a lifetime maximum. I believe we paid $800 for each IUI and our total IVF cost with PGT testing and 1 FET was around 9k.
Describe Jason Bromer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.

[Dr. Jason Bromer] he focused on hearing what our goals were in this and his opinions on those goals. He communicated well with us, but spoke in a lot of medical terms which made it difficult for my husband to understand (not so much me since I am a nurse), but I felt this is something that might cause confusion with other patients. Throughout the IUI procedures, we saw him 1 time when he stopped in during an ultrasound and he discussed the plan of care for that cycled IUI. Overall, he was very genuine, kind hearted, and you could tell he liked what he did as a profession.
[Shady Grove Fertility] Strengths would be the nursing team. They all treat the patients so personal and are compassionate. Most of them have gone through this themselves and understand the emotions. Weaknesses are of the financial team. Multiple times my husband and I were charged double for things such as copays that we paid in the office. Look at your bill and take note to things before you pay! They are also so difficult to get in touch with if you do have questions!
How was your experience with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer met up with my husband and I for both our initial consult to the office and again later when we wanted more information regarding IVF after our IUIs had failed. Both times, he focused on hearing what our goals were in this and his opinions on those goals.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Take a tablet/paper/pen to your appointments when discussing plans with him. He uses a lot of larger/medical terms that some/most people would not understand unless in the medical field. My husband found difficulty in understanding some things due to this. Also, if you are not sure of something or agree with a plan he may have projected, please speak up because he was so willing to adjust to our needs and wants in this process!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
The nurses were very personal and caring when calling and keeping me up to date on my cycle and plan of care. The clinic was usually busy most days but everyone made me and my husband feel welcome and important.

During each IUI, I had baseline ultrasound/bloodwork done on day 3 of period. Days 3-7, I took clomid while being monitored every 2-3 days during. When my follicles were at optimal size, I then took a trigger injection and the next day was scheduled for my IUI procedure. Both IUI cycles resulted in proper stimulation of my follicles where one cycled actually ended up having such a large number of good sized follicles that they spoke about canceling that cycle IUI. Both IUI cycles resulted in negative beta tests.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Julie)
Julie was our primary nurse during our cycles and I absolutely couldn't have recommended anyone more! She went above and beyond and was there every time I needed an update or just had a question needing answered. When I had poor result in my HSG and needed set up for a saline sonogram unexpectedly the next day, she helped to get me scheduled in asap so that I did not have to wait a whole cycle to have this done. She was outstanding!!
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Strengths would be the nursing team.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Each IUI cycle costed near $3,000. Medications were about $200-$300. When consulted for IVF, base price was around $15,000 with medications costing from $2,900-$4,000.
Describe Jason Bromer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
During a consult to discuss IVF in the future, we discussed the importance in only transferring a single embryo. It was explained to us that the risks of multiples can be dangerous and that it is not recommended to transfer more than one embryo.

We started with a questionnaire and an face to face consultation [with Dr. Jason Bromer]. He introduced himself and explained how the facility worked and what test he wanted to run on me and my husband so that we can get a better picture of what was going on. My husband did a semen analysis to check his sperm count and I was given an HSG test where they could see if my fallopian tube‘s were blocked or not . I had had one ectopic pregnancy and already lost one tube so he was pretty certain that my other tube was blocked with endometriosis but he did a test to be sure .
The clinic [Shady Grove Fertility] was fabulous it was very clean And a calm atmosphere there was a lot of privacy. They were very up-to-date with new technology . There was lots of room and information was easily accessible . They had one main location that was in Rockville Maryland where they did the transfer but they had a smaller clinic in Hagerstown Maryland where I was able to go and I’m still able to go that’s closer to my home . Me and my husband travel about three hours to make our appointments the appointments are very early in the morning so it’s nice to have the convenience of the Dr traveling back-and-forth between the different facilities

I had had one ectopic pregnancy and already lost one tube so he was pretty certain that my other tube was blocked with endometriosis but he did a test to be sure . My husband sperm came back a very high count so he was fine my test came back that my rate tube was completely blocked with endometriosis . At that point we had another sitdown meeting face-to-face with him which I liked he was with us every step of the way . He suggested that we do IVF and he explained the reasons why . We have been trying to get pregnant for over three years we had had one miscarriage and one ectopic pregnancy. Ivf would be the safest and best route for our family . I was given Esterase tabs and progesterone injections daily. We had to do several ultrasounds I was given a medication to have my follicles ready so that we can do an egg retrieval. Again Dr bromer was the one doing the procedure of the egg retrieval I was very emotional and nervous but he was so kind and right there with me the whole time explaining to me what he was doing . The lab fertilize my eggs and we had to wait to see if they took . Dr Bromer Called me himself to tell me that we had six that we were going to keep frozen. Then we did a mock transfer. And then we did the actual embryo transfer. The procedure was not painful but it was very emotional and it was cool how he let us see the picture of the embryo and we got to take a copy of The procedure was not painful but it was very emotional and it was cool how he let us see the picture of the embryo and we got to take a copy of it it home. We had to wait two weeks to see if the pregnancy took it was a very long two weeks we found out on December 26 that are pregnancy did take.

The monitoring appointments were ran very smoothly they were always done very early in the morning no later than 8 AM so that they could get your lab results back that same day which I appreciate . They work very well with your schedule even the receptionist was very kind and understanding . The doctor was there for all of my monitoring it was very reassuring to see his face and for him to take a look at everything and let us know how the progress was going
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The cost for my medications was around $1200 . My co-pay was $20 for every visit . I had to travel three hours for the procedure so I had a lot of money in gas and food . I don’t remember the total cost of my IVF it was thousands of dollars . And now we’re starting the process all over for baby number two
Describe Jason Bromer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
I actually wanted to do a multiple embryo transfer and after talking it over with the doctor we made the decision together that it would be safer to do one transfer

We were referred to Dr. Shin (urologist) to further asses male factor complications. We worked thoroughly with Dr. Shin for almost 8 months . Dr. Bromer continued to keep up on our file and check in. We are about to begin IVF after egg retrieval and a male microdissection due to azoospermia, with donor sperm as a backup to insure IVF is completed. Dr. Bromer and Dr. Shin have worked phenomenally together and with us!

The process of fertility treatments can be super overwhelming. There's so much information provided but SG wants you to leave understanding it all. They provide verbal and written instructions with the option to call at any time. They also provide video resources for additional support. The only challenge for us was have to drive out of town so frequently due to limited services provided at the Hagerstown SG office which made things complicated with work and time off. I'd love to see more opportunities available in the Hagerstown office.

$1900 for shared risk program, $8,500 microdissection, $1200 varicocele repair, $120 clomid, $3,000 genetic testing for me and my spouse, $1000 for donor sperm, this doesn't include thousands for copays for consultations, follow-ups and blood work.

Dr. Bromer is a consummate professional. He is knowledgeable kind and truly gives of himself to his patients. In treating you he leaves no stone unturned and no question unasked. He is patient focused and tries to offer solutions that are both medically and financially feasible. Because he is so thorough , and knowledgeable about the medical and insurance side of things you immediately want to trust. As a patient it was easy to comply with his prescribed course of treatment because you feel like you are a partner in your care and not just patient.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Don't ever tire of treating people with the care and kindness that you do. Infertility is a scary and lonely experience and while we want your guidance and the hard truths we appreciate your taking the time to provide guidance in a way that considers the patient perspective and input and while the truth is sometimes hard to take it easier to bear when the practitioners approach is informed kind and straight forward. In short keep doing what you do!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer is Awesome! He made me feel so at ease with the process of IVF. He explained the very technical aspects of IVF in the most easy to understand terms. He never tired in answering my questions and even provided me with his cellular phone and email so that I could be in touch with him as question arose. We returned to Dr. Bromer in pursuit of our second child, at which time our insurance only provided for IUI. Dr. Bromer did all of the necessary testing and told us what our best options for achieving pregnancy were. Regrettably we learned that we would not be able to conceive via IUI due to my husbands very low count following weight loss surgery. Devastated by the news, my husband and I opted to proceed with two course of IUI. Dr. Bromer was super supportive despite knowing that are chances were low. He allowed us to try to sudafed protocol etc. When that didn't work he researched and took the time to explain some insurance options that we perhaps had not considered. He truly went above and beyond to try and help us find a solution. He even assisted us in completing our application for a Baby Quest grant. I highly recommend him as a practitioner and should I be fortunate enough to have the funds to pursue an additional IVF he is the doctor that I would chose to see.

For our IVF i dont recall specifics- but we stimulated retrieved 4 eggs- 2 fertilized and one failed to thrive by the time of transfer. So we transferred the one. For our most recent IUI we stimulated and had 2 failed cycles.

He is tactful and some what caring, however, we only saw him 2 times during our cycle. Needless to say, our time with Dr. Bromer was very limited. He didn't perform any of the sonograms, retrievals or transfers. We were always told how many eggs were retrieved but, "egg quality" was never discussed with us.... I was on the Vivelle Patch 0.1mg on day 10 after LH surge. I started Cetrotide(for 3 days) on day 2 of the patch. I started Gonal F 450 IU and Menopur 150 IU about 4 days after my last dose of Cetrotide. I was on those until my follicles we're ready and I restarted Cetrotide once a day.
There seems to be poor continuity of care [at Shady Grove-Hagerstown]. You have someone different most times during monitoring and each person counts a different amount of follicles. Each person tells you something different. They seem to want to do the same thing for everyone...the same protocol. Care should be individualized.... Small office which is great, however, on the weekends you have to go to a different office and people who know nothing about your care, is there to attempt to take care of you. During office visits you see multiple healthcare workers.

Since we're still undergoing course of treatment, what I can say is that I have felt in control of our treatment plan. Whenever I have questions, they [Dr. Jason Bromer and staff] are answered in a timely manner and explained with attention to detail...My insurance covered most of the diagnostic testing but did not cover medications or IVF. We invested in the Shared Risk Program which included 6 rounds of egg retrievals and unlimited FET transfers. This cost for this program was $22k.
They [Shady Grove] are very organized and return calls/emails quickly; I have never had to wait a full day for a returned phone call or test/monitoring/procedure results. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that the wait time for monitoring appointments, especially in the Rockville office, sometimes take longer than the actual appointment itself. I would also say that I realize they see a lot of patients each day and they are always very thorough, caring and I have never felt like a "number". I also like the fact that monitoring appointments are from 7:00-8:30a.m. making it easy to get to an appointment before work and not miss as much time from work.

Dr. Bromer treated everyone as if he was in their shoes because he and his wife experienced the same thing. He does not leave any information out and is quick and efficient with his work. He has an answer for everything!... Our IvF was successful but I miscarried at 16 weeks from incompetent cervix. Dr. bromer called me the day after to say how sorry he was and that when we were ready he would be waiting for us and would help us with whatever we needed. He is such a kind and caring man.
[Shady Grove Fertility is a ]Calm and happy environment. Nice music playing and never loud or obnoxious staff. The blood draw section is very nice and private yet open and friendly at the same time. The new building they moved to is easy to locate and welcoming.... Monitoring appointments were quick and easy! Either blood first then ultrasound or if blood is backed up then ultrasound first. The staff are very fast and do not keep you waiting.

Do not be afraid to ask questions. There is no judgement. Dr bromer is there to help in any away he can.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer understood our struggle and did what was right for us from the start. A successful IUI resulting in a loss at 8 weeks, then a second IUI cycle that was cancelled due to two many follicles growing and then doing IVF so if I over stimulated it would not mess anything up. Our IvF was successful but I miscarried at 16 weeks from incompetent cervix. Dr. bromer called me the day after to say how sorry he was and that when we were ready he would be waiting for us and would help us with whatever we needed. He is such a kind and caring man.
Describe the protocols Jason Bromer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
After all my baseline tests came back good, we started IUI as the first low technology way to help conceive and it was successful until I miscarried. I responded great to the clomid. Second IUI I didn't respond to any clomid even after inxreasing the dosing so we switched to injectables which over stimulated me. After that 70 day cycle we let it go and then started IVF after a period. IVF was much easier and smoother than expected. All dates and times to do certain things and changes were well communicated and accurate. I was not afraid at all.

Very helpful and answered all of my crazy questions! If she was out any other nurse was happy to help as if they knew me. Everyone felt like family to me!
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Calm and happy environment. Nice music playing and never loud or obnoxious staff. The blood draw section is very nice and private yet open and friendly at the same time. The new building they moved to is easy to locate and welcoming.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Monitoring appointments were quick and easy! Either blood first then ultrasound or if blood is backed up then ultrasound first. The staff are very fast and do not keep you waiting.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The IUI was not as expensive as originally expected which was nice. Meds are not bad until you get to the price of injectables. My insurance covered First IvF so that was nice.
Describe Jason Bromer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Dr bromer did not want to risk multiples since I am young, so we transferred one which I agreed with.

[Dr. Bromer has an...] Excellent bed side manner, treated me as an individual and not a statistic, always made himself available to talk and address questions/concerns, never rushed us, always laid out the pros and cons and set expectations, compassionate and wanted to see us succeed as much as we wanted to succeed. He was a gladiator for us, helping us to fight our way through infertility. I could not imagine having such success with anyone else.
If there is any weakness at all [at Shady Grove - Hagerstown], I'd say the wait time in Rockville for monitoring during the week. It gets pretty busy, and they tend to run behind there. A modest price to pay for success though!...[Nurse] Toni was excellent! She was always communicating with me, even at 5:00 on a Friday evening she'd call to discuss questions/concerns. Between the first and second cycle, my menses never started, so labs were ordered. She noticed that my follicles were stagnant, no lead follicle, and asked Dr. Bromer if I could begin cycling again right away. It was on this secon cycle that I produced 9 eggs. How was your experience with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer was amazing in every sense. Excellent bed side manner, treated me as an individual and not a statistic, always made himself available to talk and address questions/concerns, never rushed us, always laid out the pros and cons and set expectations, compassionate and wanted to see us succeed as much as we wanted to succeed. He was a gladiator for us, helping us to fight our way through infertility. I could not imagine having such success with anyone else.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
I've read a few comments about him not seeing patients during monitoring or procedures, but just because he's not there in person, he's closely monitoring everything and is actively engaged in your cycling. He always makes himself available to answer questions and address concerns. Personally, I'd rather have a doctor who gets results, rather than hold my hand during the monitoring or procedures.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jason Bromer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Bromer was so easy to talk to. We discussed both high and low stimulation protocols and made the decision to go with high stims. He layer out injection refining for me, but changed it periodically based on my monitoring results. At a previous clinic, the doctor was only willing to use 1 protocol and would not make any adjustments based on monitoring results,. I ended up having a cancelled retrieval at that clinic and a broken heart.
Describe the protocols Jason Bromer used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
We did a high stimulation protocol. I started with estrogen priming and then Gonal F 450 and Menopur. The Menopur kept getting adjusted based on my labs. Towards the end of the cycle, I was giving myself 3-4 vial injections of menopur. I also used Ganirelix once the lead follicle hit a particular size. On this protocol, I produced 5 eggs on one cycle and 9 on the following cycle.

My insurance paid for it, but I believe 1 round of IVF was about $10,000

So far, Dr.Bromer has been great to work with. He has compassion for our situation and acts like he wants us to have a baby as much as we want to have one. Our questions are answered fully each appointment and we never feel rushed or that he has something more important to tend to...We were treated like our problems were important to him...I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroditis after completing all the routine tests. Was started on synthroid.
Excellent experience! My husband and I cannot day enough wonderful things about the clinic. They are personable, compassionate, helpful, and always understanding. We have no complaints. I often say “why can’t all doctor’s offices be as good as Shady Grove Fertility”...They [RN's] are all excellent!! They reply back to you quickly and always take care of things. They all do their job very well!...we are extremely grateful they offer a 25% military discount if paying cash price.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroditis after completing all the routine tests. Was started on synthroid. Then once my levels were corrected, we finished upfront testing. My ovulation was off. He recommended we start clomid/IUI. We are now infirst cycle of IUI. Taking clomid then ovidrel shot.

I wish he [Dr. Jason Bromer] would have been more aggressive in our treatment and more proactive since we were paying out of pocket. After I had my first iui that was a terrible experience he stepped up and offered to do the procedure the next time...He is very personable and will meet with you to explain everything....The first two cycles of iui he recommended clomid and a hug trigger shot with progesterone after the procedure. When those two cycles did not work he changed me to letrozole which caused early ovulation and an unsuccessful cycle.
The staff is great at Shady Grove. The only complaint that I have had is the financial department. They do not return emails or phone calls. I have asked questions and they can not give any information....I currently love my nurse. She will email to check up on me. She is also very thorough and gives detailed directions...They had my appointment in the system but not for the right procedure. I also had a cycle cancelled for early ovulation that they did not catch with no refund or partial refund.

Began [with Dr. Jason Bromer] using Bravelle, Menopur, Estrace and others. I think this is normal protocol. Then we switched to Menopur, blood thinners, steroids, leuprolide, etc...He is wonderful! He explained every procedure. Would call us the day before, day of and day after to make sure we were ok or had questions...He has a beautiful bedside manner. He’s compassionate and listens well. He explains everything so that you understand. He and his wife have gone through the process. He’s just down to earth. No question is off limits. He remembers past concerns, etc.
I lucked out with both primary nurses [at Shady Grove]. They are wonderful...Only once was I not called with results and it was an honest mistake...They are very organized. You don’t always have to monitor there. Or you can monitor and other Shady Grove offices. They are thorough and welcoming. Nothing bad to say. I love it there. They do require monitoring appointments and I recommend making in advance

he [Dr. Bromer] took the time to talk to us and we were hopeful that IVF would work....He was a good doctor but never took into account that I have crohns disease and they can impact implantation and I feel like things should have been different. I found out from a friend that crohns can cause complications and when I asked him he said it can. They had all my records...when we started injectibles they had to be adjusted many time because I was not responding to the meds like they wanted me to.

I saw Dr. Sagoskin once to consult on my treatment plan. Then I was assigned a nurse, which acts a go between for you and the doctor, but my nurse changed multiple times...We were told the consultation would take 30 minutes, but we probably were with him for 10 minutes...He gave us a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and recommended an IUI treatment cycle for three months. I was hesitant and wanted to try timed intercourse with the fertility drugs first, which he agreed to.
SGF definitely has a lot of experience treating infertility, as evidenced from the always crowded waiting rooms at the clinic. And while your treatment plan may be personalized, you shouldn't expect to get a lot of personal attention, as you see and communicate with different doctors and nurses during and between each appointment...Despite these shortcomings, I got the result I wanted and am now 10 weeks pregnant, and I know other women who have also had successful pregnancies as a result of treatment at SGF.
How was your experience with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Our initial consult with Dr. Sagoskin was the only time we saw him. He gave us a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and recommended an IUI treatment cycle for three months. I was hesitant and wanted to try timed intercourse with the fertility drugs first, which he agreed to. We ended up switching to his original IUI plan during the next cycle. We were told the consultation would take 30 minutes, but we probably were with him for 10 minutes.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
SGF felt like a factory. I saw Dr. Sagoskin once to consult on my treatment plan. Then I was assigned a nurse, which acts a go between for you and the doctor, but my nurse changed multiple times. And while the factory produced effective results, it wasn't always efficient (i.e. scheduling problems, long wait times). My husband was also diagnosed with a pituitary tumor during our treatment at SGF, which is why I decided to switch from timed intercourse (with fertility drugs) to IUI, but not once did the doctor or nurse ask how he was doing.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Leah/Allyson/Priscilla)
Something happened to the first nurse I was assigned to. I was handed off to a new nurse and then later handed off again to another nurse. They usually answered my email questions or provided after visit instructions after appointments via the phone during the week, but during the weekend or sometimes even during the week, I would end up getting instructions from completely different nurses.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
SGF definitely has a lot of experience treating infertility, as evidenced from the always crowded waiting rooms at the clinic. And while your treatment plan may be personalized, you shouldn't expect to get a lot of personal attention, as you see and communicate with different doctors and nurses during and between each appointment. Have patience and ask for payment receipts as their front desk seems to be switching between payment and scheduling systems. Don't feel pressured to pay your account balance when you check out before receiving an itemized bill -- I was asked to do this several times and got annoyed not knowing what treatments/tests I was being asked to pay for. Despite these shortcomings, I got the result I wanted and am now 10 weeks pregnant, and I know other women who have also had successful pregnancies as a result of treatment at SGF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
My insurance (Kaiser) was able to adjust the below prices and covered 50% of my treatments, except the OB ultrasounds. SGF applied a self-pay discount for these. I got my fertility drugs from a combination of the Kaiser pharmacy and RARX pharmacy for about $100 each cycle; the latter was recommended by SGF. IUI: $360 OB ultrasound: $230 Regular transvaginal ultrasound: $215 Blood draws: $15 Blood tests: $65-90 Initial consult: $160

Dr. Li has been positive and kind from the beginning...The overall strategy was what came from my baseline and test of bloodwork. I believe my baseline for estrogen is not high enough so I was on Menopur 75 which moved up to 150 on the 7th or 8th day, Gonal stayed at 250 both retrieval’s. For my second retrieval Menopur went up to 150 right away...
My monitoring appointments [at SGF] are always consistent I know what to expect and know I will always get my results within a few hours of the appointment...Always welcoming, efficient and professional. I love the Rockville office more than the DC, and Arlington not because of the people but it’s bigger and feels like a safe haven...Global package IVF #1 $8,000 Storage $1,800 last year fee plus $35 every month FET #1 $4,600 Shared risk program IVF #2 $20,000 Medication total $5,000
How was your experience with Sandy Li at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Doctor to patient I would love to see her face to face more. I think in a total 2.5 years we have seen her 3 times. I haven’t seen her yet this year and I’ve done a IVF cycle, retrieval and ERA with transfer approaching. I understand with covid-19 now but I don’t think we met up her her face to face last year either. Would love more of that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sandy Li at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
To compile all questions and concerns up front in your consultation because even though Dr. Li has a team of nurses it’s always better to hear your concerns coming straight from your doctor.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sandy Li at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Li has been positive and kind from the beginning. Even with her positivity she tells it how it is in her soft sweet voice. It’s comforting and encouraging to know she really does care about us as soon to be parents (one day) and just as hopeful as we are to create a family.
Describe the protocols Sandy Li used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
The overall strategy was what came from my baseline and test of bloodwork. For my second retrieval Menopur went up to 150 right away (maybe on day 3) this was successful I believe because we got 17 eggs, 15 mature. Whereas first cycle was 12 eggs, 9 mature. My protocol for my second IVF was to do a ERA and PGS testing since we had 2 failed transfers on good lookin embryos. Waiting on ERA results and PGS testing gave us all 5 genetically normal embryos. So happy and would say my protocol has been successful.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Jenny Wang, Priscllia, Alana)
I had Jenny Wang for 2 years, she was incredible and always on top of it. She left, and now I have a team of 3, I honestly don’t like it that much now I feel like a number because I don’t know who I’m talking to or who will reply. And even though there are 3 this cycle has felt less organized than when Jenny was my only nurse. They are nice and I’m not trying to complain about them they do there job but like I said I’m a number now.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
They are amazing as a whole. No complaints. Always welcoming, efficient and professional. I love the Rockville office more than the DC, and Arlington not because of the people but it’s bigger and feels like a safe haven. I could be bias though because that was were I started and now I live in Virginia so Fairfax or Arlington is closer. All are great.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
My monitoring appointments are always consistent I know what to expect and know I will always get my results within a few hours of the appointment.

Dr Doyle is smart, well informed, kind, and shares plenty of information. He was with us from step one, always encouraging us that we'd have great chances at a pregnancy. Even when we encountered setbacks, he explained them well and helped us chart next steps...We tried two IUIs, one with clomid and one with letrazole. I had a bad reaction to the clomid, so Dr. Doyle changed it up after our first failed procedure. We also found other issues along the way, and did two polyp removal surgeries. While initially we weren't certain if IVF would be necessary, as we continued to find polyps, Dr Doyle supported our plan of moving to IVF after just two cycles of IUI, and we got pregnant on that first transfer (plus we have many PGS tested embryos ready to go if we want to give this baby a sibling).
The nursing staff [at Shady Grove Fertility] was fine. All messages were answered in a timely manner, though sometimes questions needed to be asked more than once. I did feel like they were rooting us along, but maybe that they were overworked...We didn't always know how we'd get (negative) results, and sometimes got them via phone vs via portal message. It wasn't a big deal, but would be helpful to know what to expect...We didn't find billing to be incredibly transparent but that wasn't a huge issue for us.
How was your experience with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr Doyle is smart, well informed, kind, and shares plenty of information. He was with us from step one, always encouraging us that we'd have great chances at a pregnancy. Even when we encountered setbacks, he explained them well and helped us chart next steps. I can't be more grateful that we got Dr Doyle as a doctor, and genuinely believe our success was thanks to him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Know that he will be there with you through the ups and downs, and don't be afraid to share with him if things outside of your treatment are impacting how you're feeling or how anxious you are. He wants to know, and will treat you and your partner with compassion.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr Doyle was fantastic. Even at a large practice, he managed to attend every single one of my procedures, and even called me to check in when I'd had more pain than anticipated. He knew me by name, and would warmly greet me any time he saw me (even if I was just seeing a nurse that day). He nearly cried when we got our positive result, and can't wait to meet our baby.

Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
We had a great experience with Shady Grove Fertility. We found that being a large practice meant it was easy to get appointments, schedule necessary surgeries, and get questions answered 24/7. We do feel like we lucked out on Dr Doyle, since we had such a great personal relationship with him, but don't doubt we would have gotten good care with another provider.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
We're still waiting to see - we had some insurance coverage but some things were out of pocket, so we need to figure out our final bill. We didn't find billing to be incredibly transparent but that wasn't a huge issue for us.
Describe Joseph Doyle's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Our doctor was quite clear that with our ages and lack of issues, a single transfer was the only good option, and we agreed with him on that assessment.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I'm out of state (I live in NC) and feel more connected to Dr. O'Brien than I ever did the doctor I worked with close to home. She's incredibly generous with her time and perspective. After my first transfer failed, she called me and we spoke for 20 mins. After the second failed and another retrieval was needed, she did the same. She was patient and answered my many (many) questions. I've had a lot of complications and challenges - a canceled cycle, DOR, slow response to meds, I can't follow the normal FET protocol (allergic to PIO), my lining doesn't thicken as it should.
We were hoping for 8 eggs but only got 4 [at Shady Grove Fertility]. Lucky for me, 3 fertilized and became AA embryos. One has been transfered (fresh) and resulted in chemical pregnancy. The other two were PGS tested and are normal...Shawn [nurse] has been amazing. I live out of state and she's patient and helpful with ensuring my orders are sent to clinics when I need to monitor and letting me know if results aren't in yet, etc. She's very attentive and answers all of my (many) questions promptly. She delivers bad news with compassion and shows genuine excitement with good news. For instance, when she called to tell me my two embryos were PGS normal, I think she was as happy as I was! You can't fake that. I'm grateful to her - she helps keep me sane in this mess of a process.
How was your experience with Jeanne O'Brien at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
I gush about Dr. O'Brien every chance I get - and I don't have a baby yet! She's a wonderful doctor. She's generous with her time and knowledge, she's innovative and persistent. She's also very honest and open with sharing her thought process. She advocates for her patients. On many occasions, I've been in for monitoring and end up getting a surprise visit. When my first retrieval attempt canceled, she came in and told me herself - and helped me feel ok about it. The next time around, I saw her in the hall and she pulled up my results to review them with me in real-time. She's taken time out of her day to call me to discuss next steps (answering all of my questions for 20+ minutes!) and never makes me feel like I'm not important. She's even emailed me with updates or to let me know she'd call at a certain time. I feel so lucky to have found her!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jeanne O'Brien at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Don't be afraid to ask questions - she'll answer thoughtfully and thoroughly! She is very transparent so that does mean she shares a lot of information and detail. The first time I spoke with her (phone consult) it was a little overwhelming but now that I know her and her style, I greatly appreciate that.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jeanne O'Brien at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. O'Brien is the second doctor I've worked with. With the first, I felt like a number. I was worried that might be the case at Shady Grove as well given the size of the clinic. It couldn't be more untrue! She is innovative and unflappable. She always has a solve to help us get past the hurdle. I truly believe she wants me to be pregnant almost as badly as I do. Her belief in me and in our cause helps keep me going when I struggle to believe it myself. She's straight forward, honest, caring and persistent. With her on my side, I have hope that this will work. (And now I'm crying!)
Describe the protocols Jeanne O'Brien used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
Retrieval attempt 1 - microflare. I took microdose Lupron for several days and then added in Gonal-F and Menopur. With only three follicles leading, she decided to cancel because she felt my ovaries could do better. Retrieval 1 - estrogen priming. This started with estrogen patches for several days. I added other meds later (forget the details!) and then Gonal-F and Menopur. The doses were pretty high, especially of Menopur. Towards the end I was taking 5 vials! Also added in Cetrotide to help extend the cycle and allow more follicles to grow. I ultimately had 6 retrieved, 4 mature. Retrieval 2- microflare - after the first cancellation on this protocol, she lowered the microdose lupron dose to ensure my follicles didn't grow too fast. This also allowed for lower doses of Gonal-F and Menopur. We were hoping for 8 eggs but only got 4. Lucky for me, 3 fertilized and became AA embryos. One has been transfered (fresh) and resulted in chemical pregnancy. The other two were PGS tested and are normal.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Shawn Thompson)
All of the nurses at Shady Grove are fantastic. Shawn has been amazing.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Shady Grove is massive and I worried I'd be just a number with them. It's not the case. The entire staff is compassionate, helpful and caring. I also believe their size allows them to be cutting edge and have vast experience and expertise. Nothing seems to surprise them - probably because they see it all. I also love that they have a Wellness Center onsite with acupuncture! I participate in the Shared Risk program which gives me peace of mind. It's a wonderful option and is not something I've seen available at many other places. An exception to my high praise is the billing department. To be clear, I don't mean the financial counselors - April Jackson was wonderful. The billing department is unresponsive and challenging to work with. I had a really bad experience with them working with my insurance that caused me a lot of added heartache I didn't need. I mentioned this to my nurse, Shawn, and financial counselor, April, and they helped me escalate it to a senior person on the team to help get resolution.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jeanne O'Brien at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The majority of my first IVF cycle (actual procedure) was covered by my insurance. Dr. O'Brien did a lot to help ensure I was able to maximize that. Now I am doing Shared Risk which is EXPENSIVE - but it's worth it for the peace of mind. If you qualify, it's a great option if there's a likelihood that you'll have to do multiple retrievals and transfers.

He [Dr. Chang] was very matter of fact about odds, treatment and protocol. He adjusted as necessary during cycles and had a kind bedside manner before and after our egg retrieval. We had a successful pregnancy on our first frozen transfer and we plan to transfer our remaining embryo this year. If that does not work we will not hesitate to use Dr. Chang for another round of ivf to have our second baby...He will answer everything thoughtfully.
I never had anything but a kind interaction with everyone who worked there [Shady Grove Fertility-Rockville] and the nurses there are above average. I had trouble getting blood drawn and they were so patient and kind to me every time I was there (which was sometimes almost every day for weeks at a time)...She [nurse] was hyper organized, quick to respond to my phone calls or emails and always had a kind word to say for both our negative and positive pregnancy tests. She helped us find cheaper prescriptions and had any resource we could ask for.
How was your experience with Frank Chang (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Chang was a great doctor to have for pcos and male factor infertility. He gave us both things to work on for about six months before retesting my husbands semen to see if we could improve our odds without further treatment. When that wasn’t the case, we moved forward with IUI and ultimately IVF when it became clear that we needed to do ICSI. He was very matter of fact about odds, treatment and protocol. He adjusted as necessary during cycles and had a kind bedside manner before and after our egg retrieval. We had a successful pregnancy on our first frozen transfer and we plan to transfer our remaining embryo this year. If that does not work we will not hesitate to use Dr. Chang for another round of ivf to have our second baby.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Frank Chang (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Ask a lot of questions at your consultations and appointments. He will answer everything thoughtfully.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Frank Chang (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Chang was very matter of fact about treatment and odds but was a kind person which is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted information that was not sugarcoated.
Describe the protocols Frank Chang (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
Clomid for one IUI cycle (adding extra days of Clomid for further follicle development) with ovidrel trigger (negative pregnancy test) , Letrozole for one IUI with ovidrel trigger (negative pregnancy test- male factor), IVF cycle with menopur, final-f, endometrin and a lupron trigger. 20 eggs retrieved, 16 mature, 9 fertilized, 2 made it to blast. 1 fresh embryo transfer resulting in live birth, 1 embryo frozen.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Dew Jamandre)
When we met our nurse, Dew, I have to say that we were underwhelmed. She was very matter of fact without, it seemed, much emotion or compassion. However, I am so glad we gave her a chance because she ended up being a great advocate for us. She was hyper organized, quick to respond to my phone calls or emails and always had a kind word to say for both our negative and positive pregnancy tests. She helped us find cheaper prescriptions and had any resource we could ask for. Dew really made this journey easy for us and I hope she is able to do the same for many more people hoping to conceive.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Shady Grove Fertility knows what it is doing. I am sure they churn out patient after patient every day. To some people this may make you feel like you’re just a number to them but for me it was a comfort because it meant they knew what they were doing. I never had anything but a kind interaction with everyone who worked there and the nurses there are above average. I had trouble getting blood drawn and they were so patient and kind to me every time I was there (which was sometimes almost every day for weeks at a time).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Frank Chang (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
We are very lucky to have good insurance so our coverage was excellent. We mostly paid copays and for some of our medications. Many of the tests were not considered “fertility” and fell under regular insurance coverage so they didn’t eat into our fertility coverage.
Describe Frank Chang (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
He strongly suggested single embryo transfer due to risk to mother and child with a multiple pregnancy, no added odds of getting pregnant if you transfer multiple and also due to our non-advances ages.

Dr Doyle is a very empathetic, compassionate, and knowledgeable care provider who explained treatment options very well and took extra time and care to address all of my questions and concerns. He showed empathy when communicating disappointing news such as when one of my IVF cycles failed to produce a genetically normal embryo. Dr Doyle helped make adjustments for a second IVF cycle that was successful and he personally implanted the resulting embryo which resulted in a successful pregnancy and love birth and my currently healthy baby. Overall, I was very happy with the treatment and care that I received from Dr Doyle.
Shady Grove Fertility (Rockville) is a very efficient place- I was able to get in and out for blood tests and monitoring appointments relatively quickly with little wait time and they have many appointment slots available so they offer maximum flexibility and efficiency which is helpful. Given the large practice, it is not unusual to lose the more personal feel of a smaller practice however the staff and nurses were are friendly in my experience and a few even remembered me and provided a positive personal experience.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
There were a few frustrating practices of this practice when it comes to insurance billing and reimbursement. They claimed I was not covered for a procedure when in fact it was a covered procedure under my insurance plan, so I would suggest taking a very proactive approach to managing the billing and coverage with your insurance plan. Make sure you call your insurance to confirm coverage of each procedure and make sure that you confirm that shady grove is submitting everything to your insurance for reimbursement because sometime they forget to submit bills to insurance for reimbursement on your behalf.

Dr Doyle was warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. He was a good listener and never made me feel rushed or pressured to make a decision. He followed up with me on a concern I expressed after hours one time too. He clearly relies heavily on his nurses and NPs to do the majority of the actual direct procedures, and he just handled consultations and approving the course of treatment. So over-all high quality provider with low quantity of actual interactions
IUI out of pocket was ~$1600...Too busy, especially the financial department. They have an efficient process which is nice, but it is impersonal and the wait time can be really bad (over 45 mins on several occasions). Their office is lovely and their technology seems very up to date. Many of the actual providers are very kind, especially the nurses and front office staff..

Although the clinic over-all makes me feel like a number, whenever I’ve met or spoken directly with Dr. Doyle, he is very kind, affable, and never seemed rushed or dismissive. He’s matter of fact but still willing to explain things to me and answer my questions in a detailed way when I want/need him to. One time he even called me back after hours to talk to me about my misgivings from recommendations by the weekend doctor and nurse.

Ovidrel + IUI + monitoring of bloodwork & ultrasound x1 cycle resulted in 1 mature follicle, no pregnancy 5 pills of 2.5 letrozole, ovidrel + monitoring of bloodwork and IUI with donor sperm x1 cycle for PCOS - 2 mature follicles, no pregnancy 5 pills of 5 letrozole, ovidrel + monitoring of bloodwork & IUI with donor sperm x2 cycles for PCOS- resulted in 2 mature follicles and one mature follicle before IUI was scheduled Told me that with our next cycle we can do 5 pills of 7 mg letrozole for PCOS -

The doctor [Dr. Sagoskin] personally called me with sensitive information and had a warm bedside manner...genuine and listens to our concerns. He also is ready with a next plan for us so we can move forward when we are ready. He has tailored my medication each time to get better results and has been supportive when we went through a chemical pregnancy. He is good at communicating when questions arise and is very helpful at explaining terminology and gray areas of fertility..
Great care! [at Shady Grove Fertility] Doctors are sympathetic and sensitive and nurses are skilled and great at managing patient concerns and questions. I have felt supported at each stage of the process by our clinic. I have enjoyed the professionalism and overall great atmosphere of my visits. It’s a busy place, which can create stress and long waits for patients....She [nurse] assumed I was coming back in to the clinic because my levels were going up when in fact I had a chemical pregnancy and I was doing tests to ensure the number went down below 5. This was a difficult time and I thought the nurse could have checked my record before making the comment she did...

Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Bethany )
Wonderful attention from my primary nurse. One nurse made me feel very bad when she asked if it was my last blood work to check HCG levels, saying it was exciting. She assumed I was coming back in to the clinic because my levels were going up when in fact I had a chemical pregnancy and I was doing tests to ensure the number went down below 5. This was a difficult time and I thought the nurse could have checked my record before making the comment she did.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Great care! Doctors are sympathetic and sensitive and nurses are skilled and great at managing patient concerns and questions. I have felt supported at each stage of the process by our clinic. I have enjoyed the professionalism and overall great atmosphere of my visits. It’s a busy place, which can create stress and long waits for patients.
