Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

[Dr. Dayal] is very knowledgeable in thr infertility field. She went over all the pros and cons to each choice I had and help me decided based on my age and other factors what is the best route for treatment. She even let me try a couple other things first...Everything was emailed to me in great detail so I knew what to expect. Very organized and made me feel aware of the steps and whay I needed to...She explained things to me and my husband in a way a non doctor education person needed. Made sure it made since to me. Drew me examples...
[STL Fertility] are so organized, friendly and are your biggest supporters and cheerleaders...They don't treat you like a number but like a person and understand what you are going through...[the nurse] seems compassionate and well organized. Said I can ask her anything along th way. But their Nurse practitioner is Wonderful. She is so friendly, makes you feel super comfortable...Ivf is 20000 not including the meds for that.

I have just stated the process of ivf so I have not had much interaction with my nose yet. But she seems compassionate and well organized. Said I can ask her anything along th way. But their Nurse practitioner is Wonderful. She is so friendly, makes you feel super comfortable. I just love her!
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
I think this is the best clinic in stl. Staff is amazing here. I have had several friends use them as well and said the same thing. They are so organized, friendly and are your biggest supporters and cheerleaders. Thier goal is to figure out what's going on. Get it fixed and help you become a parent. The doc read up on all the news tech and studies so we are given the best and greatest treatment. They don't treat you like a number but like a person and understand what you are going through.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Molina Dayal at STL Fertility.
Ivf is 20000 not including the meds for that. I've probably spent several thousands on test and scans etc to figure out why I was not getting pregnant

Dr. Schulte is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I've ever met...Being that it was our 2nd miscarriage, she immediately wanted to run an RPL panel, as well as other testing before deciding on a treatment plan. Additionally, she strongly recommended PGT testing due to our prior losses (and knowing one for sure was genetic-related)...the 2nd cycle she recommended a natural transfer. I am now 4w3d pregnant
[STL Fertility is] Clean, organized, everyone is incredibly friendly, easy to get appointments scheduled, their online portal is incredibly user-friendly too! I like that I see pretty much the same people every time I'm there...Sometimes monitoring appointments can be hard just because they do get busy, and you never know what kind of short-notice you're going to have to be monitored...All of the nurses have been wonderful...Due to my age, a single embryo transfer was recommended
How was your experience with Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
Dr. Schulte is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I've ever met. She has a passion for fertility, and it shows. I feel like I can be completely open and honest with her, and she never ever makes me feel like my thoughts are too crazy. She is thorough and knows how to explain things that make sense to everyday people. I have never felt pressured to do things or complete cycles when I didn't feel like things were perfect. She has absolutely supported our journey and is willing to try anything to make sure her patients get the outcome they desire.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
Be open and honest with her! Let her know your worries, frustrations, concerns, etc. She is very willing to listen to any concerns you have and make sure you both agree on a good treatment plan.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
She knew me and my husband by name. She seems genuinely interested in both of us as people, not just a couple trying to get pregnant.
Describe the protocols Maureen "Moe" Schulte used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
I conceived naturally, but ended up being a miscarriage. While I was not technically "under her care" since the pregnancy was natural, she still allowed us to come in for bloodwork, and even 2 ultrasounds to make sure things were progressing okay. When the miscarriage happened, we immediately got into contact with her to start a plan for IVF. Being that it was our 2nd miscarriage, she immediately wanted to run an RPL panel, as well as other testing before deciding on a treatment plan. Additionally, she strongly recommended PGT testing due to our prior losses (and knowing one for sure was genetic-related). Our first transfer we did a medicated cycle, along with Lovenox and baby asprin. Unfortunately that cycle was unsuccessful, so the 2nd cycle she recommended a natural transfer. I am now 4w3d pregnant from that transfer! I just felt very heard and that she was willing to try something else when things didn't work out the first time.
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Lauren)
All of the nurses have been wonderful, but I've worked more closely with Lauren due to her being my assigned coordinator. She is very friendly, prompt, and knows what she's doing! I can ask any and all of my questions, and if she doesn't already have an answer, she quickly gets one.
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
Clean, organized, everyone is incredibly friendly, easy to get appointments scheduled, their online portal is incredibly user-friendly too! I like that I see pretty much the same people every time I'm there.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at STL Fertility.
Sometimes monitoring appointments can be hard just because they do get busy, and you never know what kind of short-notice you're going to have to be monitored. It never seemed to matter though; the front office always got me in when I needed to be seen, regardless how booked they were. Once in the office, I've waited anywhere from 5-20 minutes to be seen (depends on how busy it is that day), but it's understandable as some things just take more time than others. I do like that if I'm needing bloodwork done along with an ultrasound, they will have me come do the bloodwork then go back to the waiting room. I like that they're efficient with things like that!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility.
Thankfully I had Progyny insurance, but the quote we received for an IVF retrieval was $18,500. 1 frozen transfer ran $4,500. An ERA was $1,500. Each IUI we did through them was $1,850.
Describe Maureen "Moe" Schulte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
Due to my age, a single embryo transfer was recommended. STL Fertility seems to utilize single transfers far more frequently unless there is good reason.

Dr Schulte has been through fertility issues herself and that makes it more relatable and personable when a physician can share their experiences with you and truly understand what you are going through, instead of just saying they do. I feel she does care and wants the best outcome for me. The only weakness I have is at times, I do feel a little "rushed" in the room. I feel like I need to have all my questions readily available during the visit or she might be on to the next patient but I know they are busy and I try to have my questions written down and ready before my appts. Otherwise, I feel she is trying to help me build my family and truly cares that we make every effort to help that happen
The [STL Fertility] financial team there has also been helpful too trying to help decide best routes of payment and/or trying different packages they might offer to be most cost efficient for a self pay person. I like the "ease" of getting into their clinic for an appt and the "back door" option to leave through after you might hear results you weren't expecting or were less than favorable. It was nice to exit quickly and quietly as tears ran down my face without seeing other patients. Not being in a hospital and being able to always find parking and get into the building in a timely manner is helpful too. Front desk staff is always welcoming as well.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
They are a busy clinic and will answer any questions you have, but I recommend trying to brainstorm, research or write down any questions you might have prior to your appt to ensure you get to ask them and they get answered.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
I have always felt like a human there. I feel my emotions were always addressed. They know my name when I walk into the clinic. They know I have been through a lot and try to be there for me and help me in this journey
Describe the protocols Maureen "Moe" Schulte used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
We attempted IUI 4 times, planned intercourse once before moving on to IVF. We have had 1 retrieval and 2 unsuccessful transfers with healthy embryos. We tried a fully medicated cycle and then a modified natural cycle with immunotherapy protocols without success. Unsure what we will try next.
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Jamie)
All the nurses and MA's I have had contact with have been very personable and helpful. I am a hard stick with rolling veins and they typically have their "best" draw my blood now. They are quick to respond in email and by phone.
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
Both Dr Schulte and Dayal are amazing but this review did not ask about the other providers in a clinic such as their NP. Melanie, their NP, is seriously the sweetest person. She is very comforting and provides so much warmth during your visit. She is the one that does all the IUI's so I was mainly only seeing her during the first few months there after my initial consult with the physician. She tries to spread her "good baby dust" after an IUI and truly seems to care and feel for you if it doesn't work. I have cried with her (and the docs) many times and she is always warm and providing a hug when needed. I have never felt rushed with her or Dr Dayal who also asks me how I am doing and sits to talk to me before doing the vaginal ultrasound, etc. I personally love that its an all female clinic. While males are also obviously on this journey as well, it is different to be the woman going through this process with all the medications, testing, hormones, procedures, etc. Having female staff who know what its like getting a period or the anxiety behind taking a pregnancy test or who have been or are trying to become pregnant, etc is helpful to feel that extra comfort. Most of the staff there have been on some fertility journey themselves and its nice not to feel so alone. One thing I do wish the clinic would do is have either the nurse or the provider call with your pregnancy test results. They might call if its positive, I have not experienced that unfortunately, but having the MA call who can't always answer your questions when you hear your "negative" result can be very difficult and leaving you wanting until your next consult to ask your questions. I had my coordinator call me once instead of the MA and it was more comforting to have her call as she could at least provide some "next steps" or possible future plans before your next consult with the physician. The financial team there has also been helpful too trying to help decide best routes of payment and/or trying different packages they might offer to be most cost efficient for a self pay person. I like the "ease" of getting into their clinic for an appt and the "back door" option to leave through after you might hear results you weren't expecting or were less than favorable. Describe the protocols Maureen "Moe" Schulte used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
Down-reg with Lupron and bcp. Retrieval started with normal doses of Follilism and Menopur, decreased at checks due to follicle growth and bloodwork. Stimmed low and slow to increase chances of getting a good cohort of eggs maturing together, since we could only afford one retrieval.
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Merry Kay)
Merry Kay is a busy professional, but always answers portal messages and returns calls same-day. She can usually share reasons for a change, but sometimes the answer is "just because." If she can't answer and you press for one, she does get Moe to call back to explain. Other nursing staff are nice and able to fill in/answer questions when Merry Kay is not available.

About $10k for ER and 1 FET. $5k for meds for ER. $4k for 2 additional FETs, $2k for ERA testing cycle. $3k for surgery (at outside hospital, at Moe's recommendation for fertility purposes)
Describe Maureen "Moe" Schulte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
Strong preference for eSET. Explained why, including sharing relevant peer reviewed research. Compelling evidence, and I too now strongly prefer eSET.

Dr Dayal came out to the lobby to get us on our first appointment. In my husband’s words “wow she seems so much more invested”...provided me with the information and reassurance I needed...performed her own procedures...called us in the evening more than once to talk through random questions I had...made a medical regimen specific to me and explained drug choices and dosages. The meds resulted in the production of many eggs and she changed my dosages frequently at the end of the retrieval cycle (with additional appointments to monitor and determine the best retrieval date).
They [STL Fertility (formerly SIRM St. Louis)] are very friendly on the phone and scheduling is so easy! After hours nursing is also so friendly (even at 10pm and even when I just needed reassurance )! The tech who did US was so nice, yet professional, and put me at ease. The phlebotomists are all great- I never had a bad experience with them...able to meet with someone in billing on our first appointment. She spent about an hour with us and explained all our options.
How was your experience with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr Dayal is wonderful! We switched clinics because I was not happy with our care. Dr Dayal was so very thorough and performed her own procedures. I am anxious at baseline and she provided me with the information and reassurance I needed. She called us in the evening more than once to talk through random questions I had. She is the absolute best.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Ask all your questions, she truly wants to hear them and help you!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr Dayal came out to the lobby to get us on our first appointment. In my husband’s words “wow she seems so much more invested”. He is absolutely right, I felt like she listened to us and wanted to help, along with providing very detailed information and expectations.

Unlike the clinic prior, Dr Dayal made a medical regimen specific to me and explained drug choices and dosages. The meds resulted in the production of many eggs and she changed my dosages frequently at the end of the retrieval cycle (with additional appointments to monitor and determine the best retrieval date).
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Amy)
Amy was available for questions all throughout the work week, and the on call nurse answered immediately after hours. Amy never made me feel silly for asking a question (even though I asked silly questions and just needed reassurance). I felt like she really cared!

Describe the costs associated with your care under Molina Dayal at STL Fertility.
We were able to meet with someone in billing on our first appointment. She spent about an hour with us and explained all our options. I felt like they were more aware and conscious of billing than the previous clinic we went to. We ended up utilizing Attain fertility.

Dr. Dayal is so warm and compassionate and makes us feel like we are her only patients. She spends much quality time and makes sure we fully have and know everything we need...During the miscarriages and hard times she would reach out personally to make sure we were okay and made us feel like her only patients. After doing an ERA last summer [at SIRM] she [Dr. Dayal] found that I would potentially benefit from a day 6 transfer instead of a day 5 with the next FET...Amy [nurse] is fantastic! She is always there with answers to questions we may have and understands my need for communication...The only issue I had was during a staff change the new employees did not know our history and our protocols. We were getting conflicting info from person to person. Everything worked out!
How was your experience with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr. Dayal has zero weaknesses. She is the most compassionate and intelligent doctor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. During the miscarriages and hard times she would reach out personally to make sure we were okay and made us feel like her only patients. She makes the treatment processes much easier to handle.

Describe the protocols Molina Dayal used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
During the IUIs I was placed on letrozole and did a pregnyl injection to release the egg(s). Egg retrieval for IVF was Gonal F, Lupron, Menopure. At the time this was the best course of treatment. After doing an ERA last summer she found that I would potentially benefit from a day 6 transfer instead of a day 5 with the next FET.
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Amy Albertson)
Amy is fantastic! She is always there with answers to questions we may have and understands my need for communication. She has always been there for us during the tough times. She is extremely organized!
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
My only comment about weakness is that they recently had a change in staff. There was a time where I got lost in the shuffle, but with so many new employees it is understandable when trying to get settled and trained. It's also understandable since I have been coming to this clinic for 5 years.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Molina Dayal at STL Fertility.
The costs have been uniform since our first visit. With each cycle we knew what our costs would be and there were no surprises. We were able to secure a loan to help us.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I started IVF [with Dr. Schulte]...I only had one egg, so we canceled retrieval and I did the trigger shot and timed intercourse. No success...I know she prefers a single embryo transfer, I know that in my case if we’d been lucky enough to get two, she’d have done both, but normally she only does one...She took the time to get to know me personally. She treated more like a friend then a patient. She made it seem like we were really in this together...She was candid, yet comforting in advising me on my road to conceiving with and without the use of an egg donor. She spent as much time with me as I needed when any set backs occurred.
I think this clinic [SIRM] is absolutely wonderful and I’d highly recommend them. The only issue I faced was with the financial department. My insurance was covering some of it and it took a long time to get the amount, and then when we were finally told we needed to pay, it was immediate and we almost missed our cycle window because of the delay. It took like 2 weeks for insurance verification. Luckily we didn’t miss the window (not that it mattered), but it was added stress.
How was your experience with Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
From the moment I met her she was warm and friendly. She treated me like a new friend and she was very open and honest about my course of treatment. She was candid, yet comforting in advising me on my road to conceiving with and without the use of an egg donor. She spent as much time with me as I needed when any set backs occurred.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
Be ready to hear the good and the bad news because she’ll be open and honest about your possibilities. In theory we may want a doctor to tell us we’ll all get a baby, but we need the ones who are honest about how likely that really is.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
She took the time to get to know me personally. She treated more like a friend then a patient. She made it seem like we were really in this together.
Describe the protocols Maureen "Moe" Schulte used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
We did an ultrasound to see my egg quantity (3). I then started birth control. At my next cycle I started IVF drugs (Lupron, Gonal, & Menopur). I went in for a blood test and ultrasound the first week. It didn’t look great and we decided that if we were lucky enough we’d do a fresh vs frozen transfer since they wouldn’t have a lot to test. I continued the drugs for another week. Went back in for blood work and ultrasound. I only had one egg, so we canceled retrieval and I did the trigger shot and timed intercourse. No success. Covid-19 cancelled current treatments, but when we have the money our next step will be using an egg donor.
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Merry Kay)
Merry Kay was wonderful, she always seemed happy to answer my questions and respond to my emails.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility.
$3400 was my portion after insurance, $580 for anesthesia (didn’t use and still waiting for refund), plus additional copays for specialist office visits.
Describe Maureen "Moe" Schulte's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.

Dr Witten was pretty blunt with me during one of the initial appointments. I ended up leaving in an embarrassing mess of tears. The next time I came into the clinic, he offered me one of the most sincere apologies I have ever experienced. From then on he was compassionate and sensitive. Also his exams/procedures were as comfortable as they could be...Due to my age, poor egg quality and low reserve, my only choice was donor egg. First I had a saline ultrasound. I found out on my own about frozen egg banks and chose to use a frozen egg lot
I felt like a number when I was a part of a batched cycle [at SIRM St. Louis]. I also felt like a number when I was waiting for financing to come in and there was not much communication. I felt like a human when I had appointments with the doctor...She [nurse] was kind and extremely positive from the first time I met her. She was extremely helpful in my getting my medication at the best possible price. She was extremely organized. I wish there had been better education on how to do the injections and more information about potential side effects.

Describe the protocols Barry Witten (retired) used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
Due to my age, poor egg quality and low reserve, my only choice was donor egg. First I had a saline ultrasound. I found out on my own about frozen egg banks and chose to use a frozen egg lot. After the eggs arrived at the clinic, I was started on birth control, then transitioned to lupron injections. Then I started steroids and injected estrogen. Close to transfer I started progesterone in oil and antibiotics. I chose to use the acupuncturist who came to the clinic on transfer day. Then after transfer and confirmed pregnancy I stayed on all of those meds until 10 weeks except for the antibiotics. I was then released to my obgyn.

She was kind and extremely positive from the first time I met her. She was extremely helpful in my getting my medication at the best possible price. She was extremely organized. I wish there had been better education on how to do the injections and more information about potential side effects.
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
Strength: office and parking are easy to access. The office was peaceful and organized. Appointments were easy to make and convenient. The phlebotomists were amazingly kind. The embryologists took great care with my frozen donor eggs. Transfer day was so special. Weaknesses: I had to do everything with obtaining the donor eggs and sperm with no guidance from the clinic. I felt very alone in that. I also had a lot of questions about my protocol that I had a hard time getting answered. The ultrasound tech was much more rough than Dr Witten with the internal ultrasounds.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility.
It’s hard to say. I paid the donor egg bank for up to six cycles and then they paid the clinic for all my treatment.
Describe Barry Witten (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
I was only interested in eSet so it was never a discussion.
What specific things went wrong at STL Fertility?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at STL Fertility.
I had some miserable but non life threatening side effects from the meds and when I asked about them I was kind of told just to deal with it.

My treatment plan was not tailored to my needs. I went through 1 embryo transfer that failed and nothing was changed for the second (which also failed). Going into the 3rd nothing was going to change and no additional testing was going to be completed. ... I was walking away from Dr. Witten with no help and an unexplained diagnosis. We had went through some terrible loss and did not feel anything was going to change, therefor, we had to make the change.
Strengths: -This clinic [SIRM] is very compassionate towards their patients. After our first loss, everyone signed a card and sent it to us to let us know they were all thinking about us. This is one of the reasons it made it very hard to leave. ... Weaknesses: -Communication! There were a lot of times that the communication was not great. Either miscommunication between the doctors and nurses or miscommunication to us. Someone would tell me one thing and then turn around and tell me something else. If you choose this clinic, make sure you are clear with everyone and confirm everything twice. -I felt I was treated just like any other patient in terms of care plan. I did not feel they tailored the care to our needs. It was the same thing they were doing for everyone.
How was your experience with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
While I decided to leave the clinic, I still hold a special place in my heart for Dr. Witten. He is very compassionate and follows probably what most other doctors follow. I felt that he had my best interest at heart. I had to switch clinics to try a different treatment plan and regain some hope. Fight to change your treatment plan if it is not working. Also, try not to schedule Friday appointments. They seem to be very busy on those days and wait times can be long!

I have been off birth control for 4 years and we really tried to start conceiving in January 2017. We started in November 2018 with Sher and did one round of medicated timed intercourse. We then proceeded with an IUI in January and February. Had a HSG performed in February 2019 that came back normal with no blockage. In May we attempted our first IVF cycle but was cancelled due to low number of follicles. During this cycle Lupron, Gonal F, Menopur and the HCG trigger shot was used. During June we went through another retrieval and used the same medicine but added Cetrotide and increased the dosages on the other. They retrieved 11 eggs, 10 fertilized and 6 made it to day 5. We then did PGS testing and 3 came back normal; 2 males and a female. The abnormal ones had the following issues: one of the embryos was missing a chromosome on chromosome 1, one had an additional on chromosome 8, and the other had an additional on 11 and 13. We then went through a transfer in August 2019. Lupron and E2V were used to prepare. My lining was above 9mm. We did have to use Viagra suppositories to get my lining to thicken. We transferred on 8/22 and used Progesterone and Progesterone suppositories along with E2V after transfer. Blood tested on 9/1 and came back with a negative. During October, an ERA was performed. Again, used the same medicine regime. The ERA came back receptive. During November, we prepared again for another transfer in December. A few differences during this cycle was that they did test for blood clotting disorders and I do have a single mutation for the blood clotting disorder MTHFR. For this round they added Lovenox daily. We also did a scratch during the fluid ultrasound. My lining was at 10.4mm 5 days before transfer (last ultrasound) and we transferred on 12/13 and embryo glue was used during this transfer. A blood test was done 12/23 and came back negative. We have transferred both our male embryos and have the female embryo left.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at STL Fertility.
I did not have the same nurse all the way through with this clinic. They switched me back and forth a few times. I thought the communication could have been better. They would tell us one thing and then the next minute (literally) would tell us something different. I would say they had compassion and would understand what we were going through.

This is one of the reasons it made it very hard to leave. -Wait times are typically not long. Describe the specific things that went wrong at STL Fertility.
During our first attempt at retrieval, everyone kept telling us the follicle size and count looked great and that we were "over-achieving." When it came to the last scan and the day we should have taken the trigger we heard the same thing. We did the scans and no concerns. We waited to talk to our nurse. She came in and started talking about how to do the trigger shot and when. But then 30 seconds into the conversation she said she would call us later to give final details because the doctor wanted to look at the scans again to confirm everything was good and then in the next breath she was telling us the retrieval was cancelled. We were very confused how we go from over-achieving to the retrieval being cancelled in matter of minutes.

Prior to egg retrieval, I used Lupron. I had two retrievals with Dr. Dayal which were much more successful than the retrievals I had with another RE. I felt Dr. Dayal carefully considered the best approach given my history, age, etc. For the FETs I have had under Dr. Dayal's care we have used both medicated and a semi-natural/gentle stim cycle...I have only done single embryo transfers, which Dr. Dayal is strongly in favor of...is extremely warm and caring - you can tell she really cares about her patients and thoughtfully thinks about each case and the best approach.
I used an Attain shared risk plan [at SIRM St Louis]...This clinic makes you feel like a person and I have seen Dr. Dayal at nearly every appointment. This is very much in contrast to the approach I had at another clinic where I rarely met the RE and procedures were performed by the RE on service that week. Dr. Dayal performed every embryo transfer and FET I had under her care personally...Nursing staff is great at SIRM! Very thorough and great attention to detail. I have had very few issues with them, which is in contrast to my experience at another clinic.
How was your experience with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr. Dayal is extremely warm, intelligent, and thorough. Despite the fact that I have still not achieved the outcome I want, I completely trust her and believe she has left no stone unturned. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone going through infertility.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr. Dayal is incredibly thorough and explains everything well but certainly feel free to ask her questions, which she will always answer!

Dr. Dayal always greeted me by name. She would ask questions that were more than just a "how are you doing?" nature to really get to know you...has always been very straight forward with us. She tells us what treatment options are best for our situation. When a cycle failed, she changed things up so things looked different the next time. She genuinely cares about me as a patient and always weighs the risks and benefits of each treatment option.
It [SIRM St Louis] is newly renovated and easy to find. They just added a third doctor to their practice. At this time they do batched IVF cycles, which is both good and bad. I'd love to see them stop that and do the IVF based on where their patient is in their cycle...The nursing team work together to make sure your needs are met. You are assigned a specific nurse, and she is the one who makes your schedule and fields the majority of your questions. But almost every nurse there knows me by name and can answer any question I have regarding my treatment if my nurse is not available.

We attempted a timed intercourse cycle with a low dosage of stimulation drugs. I have a high number of eggs so she wanted to start with a low dose so as not to overstimulate me. That cycle was unsuccessful, but it did give Dr. Dayal an idea on how my body would react to a full stim IVF cycle. We moved straight forward with IVF, choosing the skip IUI as the issue was annovulation, not a sperm issue. She monitored me very closely as I did produce a very high quantity of eggs. Due to the large number of eggs we had to freeze all of our embryos and do a frozen cycle. Our first frozen cycle failed. After that cycle Dr. Dayal added on a bag of intralipids and had us do an ERA to determine our optimum window for implantation. Our second cycle also failed, and I will be speaking with Dr. Dayal tomorrow on what we can change for our next cycle to try to be successful.

I do not remember the costs. I know that my insurance did cover 85% of the total costs of treatment.
Describe Molina Dayal's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
Dr. Dayal did recommend only transferring one embryo because of my younger age. She told us that transferring two embryos doesn't really increase your chance of getting pregnant, just your chance of having multiples.

He [Dr. Barry Witten] spends so much time with me each appointment and I never feel like he’s rushing to see the next patient. He’s also always been on time and I’ve never had to wait past my appointment time to see him. He has also done very cool things like let me see the sperm sample through the microscope so I am convinced that my husbands sperm are swimming correctly!...He has always been the one that does my ultrasounds. We have previously done 3 IUI’s three months in a row with no positive results.
The IUI’s [at SIRM St Louis] were out of pocket for us and were $1000...have called several times to ask about my bills or appointment times and they never make me feel like I’m wasting their time, even though I know how busy they are. The office staff is literally the most incredible staff I have ever dealt with...They [nurses] are always on time and organized. They always remember me and ask about me and how work is going. They spend a lot of time in the room with me and answer any and all questions I have. They always have a smile of their faces and make me feel so comfortable. Working as a nurse myself I know how important it is that your patients feel comfortable with you and I feel that 100%
How was your experience with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
I have had over 20 visits to this clinic and have seen Dr. Witten every single time besides once, when he was out of town. I have several friends who see different fertility Dr.’s and none of them have actually gotten to see they doctor as much as I’ve seen him. I feel like that says a lot about the care he provides his patients. He is always on board with any new idea I have or something new to try. He spends so much time with me each appointment and I never feel like he’s rushing to see the next patient. He’s also always been on time and I’ve never had to wait past my appointment time to see him. He has also done very cool things like let me see the sperm sample through the microscope so I am convinced that my husbands sperm are swimming correctly! Being able to do that was beyond one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen a doctor do for a patient and I’m a nurse and work with doctors on a daily basis.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
Let him know everything about how your feeling or any issues you have with anything. He’s a very good listener and always wants to know how you’re feeling throughout each cycle. Be very open to him about your feelings.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
He has been very compassionate and understanding of my feelings. He takes the time to talk and listen. He listens and responds to all of my concerns, and since I work in healthcare, I feel that I probably have a lot more concerns than others.
Describe the protocols Barry Witten (retired) used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
Every cycle I have a baseline ultrasound to check for cysts, then I start my (cycles with IUI’s was 5 mg) 7.5 mg of femara on cycle days 3-7. I come back around cycle day 11 or 12 or another ultrasound to see how my follicles are responding. He has always been the one that does my ultrasounds. We have previously done 3 IUI’s three months in a row with no positive results. However, I did handle those cycles just fine with no issues. Before the first IUI he checked my cervical mucus to check for sperm. He was not able to find any so we thought IUI should work. Since the failed IUI’s he upped my dosage from 5mg to 7.5 to allow more eggs to produce to see if that would help. Before I was producing one egg each time. I also give myself a trigger shot every cycle with or without doing the IUI’s. Unfortunately I have not received a positive test from any cycles yet. This cycle we are currently on he’s checking my ph and we are trying a baking soda douche the night before I ovulate. He checked my cervical mucus again this cycle and there was living sperm in it which is better than when he checked before.
Describe your experience with your nurse at STL Fertility.
The overall nursing staff is amazing. I have dealt with mostly the same two but throughout my visits have dealt with all. They are always on time and organized. They always remember me and ask about me and how work is going. They spend a lot of time in the room with me and answer any and all questions I have. They always have a smile of their faces and make me feel so comfortable. Working as a nurse myself I know how important it is that your patients feel comfortable with you and I feel that 100%
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
The clinic is very clean and organized. They just remolded and have a very updated look and feel to it. They are amazing at communicating. They call just to make sure you know what office your going to or just anything little like that. I have called several times to ask about my bills or appointment times and they never make me feel like I’m wasting their time, even though I know how busy they are. The office staff is literally the most incredible staff I have ever dealt with.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility.
The IUI’s were out of pocket for us and were $1000. Femara and trigger shots are also out of pocket but they providing me with the cheapest pharmacies for me to get them through. All of the ultrasounds were run through insurance and we covered the rest out of pocket. Roughly around $250 per month.

We started with Femera and Ovidrel and moved on to IUI. We’re perfect on paper, but just can’t get pregnant. Dr. Witten saw a fibroid, but performed a test that showed it was not inside the wall and decided it was not an issue. After a 2nd failed IUI we went in to discuss moving to IVF. Instead of just taking our money and starting IVF, he referred us to a surgeon to remove the fibroid. He didn’t want any obstacles when we finally start treatment. This will delay our treatment 3 months, but we will at least know that we did everything possible. We feel that he genuinely cares about us and our outcome and we continue to trust his treatment plan. New Patient Advice
We really like this clinic [Sher Fertiltiy of St. Louis]. Appointments are relatively easy to get at the time you want and I never have to wait long to be seen. Parking is also free :) Everyone knows our names and always greet us when we come in. They also have blood draws on site so you don’t have to go to an outside lab...Holly and Jamie [nurses] are great! They are very efficient during appointments and quick to respond to messages...My first prescription from this clinic was mistakenly not called in. The pharmacy was able to get a hold of the nurse at home and I was able to get my prescription.
How was your experience with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
We came to Sher and Dr. Witten after a bad experience elsewhere. He is very thorough and really took the time to run every test and go through every potential obstacle before recommending treatment. We started with Femera and Ovidrel and moved on to IUI. We’re perfect on paper, but just can’t get pregnant. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
He is very sweet, but no-nonsense in his approach. Sometimes he can be very direct. My advice would be to ask as many questions as it takes so you understand exactly what is happening.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
Dr. Witten may be a little blunt and no-nonsense, but he definitely treats his patients well. He has called me personally to make sure I understood everything and always seems disappointed when a treatment fails.
Describe the protocols Barry Witten (retired) used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
We started with Femera and the trigger shot with timed intercourse for several months. We did our first IUI, went back to Femera during the holidays and did a 2nd IUI two months later. He performed many tests including HSG and a saline ultrasound. Most recently we have been referred to a surgeon for fibroid removal. The surgeon seems to think this could be causing our issues. We will resume treatment with Dr. Witten after recovery.

The thing I love the most about working with Dr. Dayal is I feel like we're part of a team. I can always ask her questions, mention concerns, and we work on a plan together. I never feel rushed with her in my appointments, even when I have a ton of questions. With both of my losses Dr. Dayal was incredibly compassionate and when I was ready mentioned procedures/tests we might consider to get to the bottom of the issue.
Nurse Tayon [at SIRM STL] is great to work with. I definitely feel comfortable asking her any questions I have and she is always quick to respond. When she went on maternity leave Merry Kay took over as my nurse and she was equally as great. I feel like I always get the information I need. If I have concerns or inquiries about our cycle she is always willing to listen and ask Dr. Dayal if needed.... Overall the clinic is great. The best care I have ever received. When we first started their financial adviser for patients was hard to get a hold of and seemed very unorganized but she is no longer at the clinic. Everyone is so friendly, accommodating, and I love that I never feel rushed.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Ask all the questions you have. It isn't a reflection on Dr. Dayal or her staff because they are great with communication, more being your own advocate and not being afraid to ask any and all questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
The entire staff at SIRM is incredible and they always know exactly who I am, the laugh with me, joke with me; which makes the overall experience much more positive. Dr. Dayal is highly involved in my care and I see her every appointment I have which I really appreciate.
Describe the protocols Molina Dayal used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
The first IVF cycle I did with Dr. Dayal was canceled. We had agreed to do a low dosage protocol and my follicles simply stopped growing at the mid-way point. Dr. Dayal suggested a low dose protocol because she was worried about hyper-stimulation due to my PCOS. We tried to work with the cycle but it just wasn't working so we wound up canceling it. Our second IVF we did complete and did a freeze all instead of doing a fresh transfer. We used a "middle of the road" dose protocol and it worked perfectly. She was still worried about hyper-stimulation and warned me if this occurred we would have to do a freeze all. While I didn't hyper-stimulate I did have a rough recovery with egg retrieval due to past abdominal surgeries, completed unrelated to Dr. Dayal, and we wound up having to do a freeze all anyway. With each of our 3 frozen embryo transfers (FETs) we used the same protocol because even though the first one was unsuccessful with a negative beta, my body responded exactly as wanted to the medication protocol. My 2nd and 3rd FETs resulted in positive betas but ended in miscarriage, both at 5 weeks 1 day. After learning this Dr. Dayal highly recommended doing an ERA test to make sure we were transferring on the right day.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Molina Dayal at STL Fertility.
I don't specifically remember costs because my Husband and I are very lucky to have health insurance that helps with infertility treatments. However, they do use an anesthesiologist who does not accept insurance and their cash/check payment cost is $500 which is due at time of service.

All I knew was that I had aggressive cancer and we had one shot to have a family genetically...Dr. Moe [Maureen Schulte] took on my case as if we were long-time friends or immediate family members. Absolutely every single interaction was heartfelt, honest and meaningful. During the 10-day hormone injection period, Dr. Moe sent daily text messages of encouragement, support and love. To be honest, I often felt like I was Dr. Moe’s only patient during our egg retrieval because she was genuinely concerned about our health journey. It was extremely obvious that our situation was just as important to her as it was to us. Dr. Moe called to inform us that we had genetically normal embryos waiting for us when I was cancer free. To be Dr. Moe’s first “rescue retrieval” was a gift.
Every single time I walked into the clinic [SIRM St Louis], I felt like the only patient. The level of compassion and care was obvious and much needed...Knowledgeable. Compassionate. Caring. Loving. Having been recently diagnosed with cancer, the team of healthcare professionals at SIRM made me feel like having a family was not a dream but a reality someday post cancer. They provided me with a level of confidence I lost after I was diagnosed. Every interaction was positive and refreshing... Although booked solid, Andrea opened Dr. Maureen Schulte’s schedule for us to arrive the next day as a “rescue retrieval” case. We drove there in silence. The fear was palpable. We needed a win, however small, that day. Insert Dr. Moe. I arrived at SIRM with little to no hope. I did not understand the
How was your experience with Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
The entire staff at SIRM was a complete Godsend for my husband and I in 2019. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer at the age of 31. Just 48 hours before, I had been playing with my wiggly and growing nephews with the desire to be a mom. Before my diagnosis, I thought our pregnancy journey would begin just a few months later in summer 2019. Our “normal” life was stripped from us. We met with my radiation oncologist, oncologist and surgeon. For the first time in my life, I felt extremely hopeless when we were informed that I would very likely become infertile from radiation and chemotherapy. Our only option was invitro fertilization (IVF) and then surrogacy. Seeing that I had almost a complete obstruction in my rectum, my healthcare team was hesitant to allow fertility treatment to proceed. However, given my age and my current childless state, I was given the green light with specific instructions that I had three weeks to undergo IVF and then cancer treatment started. Following referral from a close friend, I contacted SIRM the next day. I felt battered, beaten down and extremely fragile. In all honestly, I had an extremely negative attitude and felt powerless to my situation. Andrea McClain answered the phone. From the first interaction, we felt relief. I did not understand the IVF process. I had no idea if I was fertile. All I knew was that I had aggressive cancer and we had one shot to have a family genetically. Five hours later, I left SIRM rejuvenated with hope and encouragement that I was being taken care of by the best doctors before cancer treatment started. Dr. Moe took on my case as if we were long-time friends or immediate family members. To be Dr. Moe’s first “rescue retrieval” was a gift. When I had little hope and the possibility of having a family felt like it was slipping away, I received encouragement, love and tons of hugs from every single member of the SIRM family. Every individual, from the front desk, to lab technicians, to our administrative gurus and Dr. Moe, made our world seem a little less scary. When I wanted to quit during my six months of chemotherapy, our future family kept me going more times than I can count. We dreamt of our family more in the last six months than ever before. That dream will one day become a reality because of Dr. Moe and her talented team. Dr. Moe is living her calling in life. It is insanely obvious that she fully invests in her patients through her witty and adorable bedside manner, personal touch and follow-up interactions. As a past patient and cancer survivor, I highly recommend SIRM for all your fertility needs. Make the right choice. Choose SIRM today.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Maureen "Moe" Schulte at STL Fertility?
Do not be intimidated by the process. You are with the best. She will make you feel taken cared of and do everything in her power to help you start your family.

Dr. Dayal was always gentle in all of her procedures that she performed and took care to minimize pain....Unfortunately my last experience with Dr. Dayal is the reason why I cannot recommend her as a doctor.... My gynecologist's office had to chase her down to get the records they needed and only through their efforts was I able to get my D&C. A miscarriage is awful enough, but having a doctor that you worked with for years abandon you in the middle of it is just unconscionable
There was a real deficit of caring at this clinic [SIRM St. Louis]. Overall the staff here doesn't care about their patients very much. For example a nurse made a joke about my memorial necklace after I returned to treatment after a stillbirth... The staff frequently forgot that I had stillbirth and kept asking me how the baby I lost was doing.... myself and another patient's charts were mixed up during our monitoring appointments and I was told to trigger far too soon.
How was your experience with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr. Dayal was always gentle in all of her procedures that she performed and took care to minimize pain. She was generally good about explaining everything and was upfront if a certain test or procedure did not have a lot of research. Dr. Dayal was open to trying new procedures and medications. Unfortunately my last experience with Dr. Dayal is the reason why I cannot recommend her as a doctor. I went into her office for a D&C after a miscarriage and unfortunately her nurse anesthesiologist was not able to place an IV despite many tries so the procedure was cancelled. This is obviously a terrible experience, but Dr. Dayal told me she would see if either the other anesthesiologist team she worked with would be available and also took the name of my gynecologist to see if she could get me set up to have it done with them and that she would call me later that day. She never called. I called my gynecologist's office the next day who said they had not heard from Dr. Dayal. My gynecologist's office had to chase her down to get the records they needed and only through their efforts was I able to get my D&C. A miscarriage is awful enough, but having a doctor that you worked with for years abandon you in the middle of it is just unconscionable
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
Dr. Dayal tends to phrase things in a very optimistic manner. Please do your own research and take any statistics she quotes you with a large grain of salt.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Molina Dayal at STL Fertility?
There was a real deficit of caring at this clinic. Overall the staff here doesn't care about their patients very much. For example a nurse made a joke about my memorial necklace after I returned to treatment after a stillbirth in front of Dr. Dayal and the Dr. didn't say anything to her. The staff frequently forgot that I had stillbirth and kept asking me how the baby I lost was doing.
Describe the protocols Molina Dayal used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
Long lupron protocol with fresh transfers of a single embryo (against Dr. Dayal's recommendation) then double embryo transfer. Did natural killer cell testing after the first fresh transfer failed and when this came back elevated, she added intralipid infusions to future transfers. Also did two medicated frozen embryo transfers.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at STL Fertility.
The nursing staff here in general were unprofessional. My first IVF cycle almost went down the drain, because myself and another patient's charts were mixed up during our monitoring appointments and I was told to trigger far too soon. This didn't match what Dr. Dayal had discussed with me, but the nurse refused to listen to me. I had to argue with her for quite awhile before she reluctantly went to double check with a lot of attitude and then she didn't even apologize when she slinked back to give me the correction instructions. I'd been chewed out by the nursing staff for not scheduling my appointment (I had) and for them not being able to get an IV in to me. Overall the nurses were pretty good at getting back to me if I had a question and for the most part were responsive and correct in getting appointments, orders to pharmacies, updated calendars and there was a lot less waiting to hear back at this clinic than my experience with other clinics.
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
Getting on the schedule is very easy and not a lot of waiting. Their monitoring starts at 8am and tends to take awhile, which sucks if you are trying to juggle IVF and work. But your RE is there at every appointment and you know the next steps and have your next appointment scheduled before you leave which is great . The financial counselor there was completely useless, but they do send itemized bills which were easy to understand.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Molina Dayal at STL Fertility.
Had insurance coverage
Describe Molina Dayal's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
Due to my age, she recommended transferring two day 5 embryos. I do think Dr. Dayal downplays the risks of a pregnancy of multiples.
What specific things went wrong at STL Fertility?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Lost appointments
  • Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at STL Fertility.
I've had a few minor issues such as they forgot to call in prescriptions and I wasn't on the schedule once when I had made an appointment. I had a much more critical near miss where they mixed my chart up with another patient's and they almost screwed up both of our IVF cycles by telling me to trigger when I wasn't ready and telling the other patient to continue stims when she was ready to trigger and it took a lot more arguing from me than it should have for them to double check. The biggest issue I had there was the nurse anesthesiologist not able to place an IV for a D&C procedure that Dr. Dayal failed to follow up after this procedure was cancelled. The clinic as a whole does not accept responsibility for their errors and tends to blame patients or anyone else for their mistakes.

Dr Dayal is very compassionate and seems to truly care. I have had issues that I have brought forward and she listens well and has attempted to make them right. I really appreciate that she is in every appointment, she answers all my questions and I have felt like I have a say in my care ...Dr Dayal and all of the staff [Sher] do a wonderful job of making you feel like a person.
The office [Sher] is nice, staff is great, they are responsive to your needs. However they are a large clinic and like anywhere else you need to continue to advocate for yourself and your needs. I recommend having a note book with questions and be prepared with it at every visit ... had a scan done at another location and the report stated I had a septate uterus. ... I was not notified of report and the embryo transfer proceeded. My septate uterus was offically diagnosed 2 years later and I had surgery immediately.

Dr. Dayal is very warm and compassionate. She remembers details about you when you visit (both medical and personal). While we were seeking a second opinion before doing IVF she called to get a check-up on our progress. Although she will give her medical opinion and guidance, she is 100% supportive of OUR decisions through the process. She treats us as intellectuals and explains ideas that need elaboration, but doesn't overexplain ideas that we've "got." She has never once rushed an appointment with us. She has made it clear that us having a successful pregnancy is her priority.
My experiences with the clinic [Sher-STL] have been the only thing that has not been great about the process. Everyone is VERY warm and friendly, and a lot of the staff gets to know you personally, but they honestly can be a bit disorganized at times. Nothing major so far, but things like calling to cancel/reschedule an appointment and it not getting noted. Sometimes I feel like I am responsible for reminding them of details that I think the should have recorded. Like I said, not horrible! But there have been a few moments.

Is it possible for a doctor to be too kind? I am struggling to come up with anything except that maybe at times I wish she was a little more forceful with her advice (ok, not really). But we may have made some different decisions to move quicker if she had guided us to. So have an idea of what your goals are when meeting with her.

Sometimes I feel like I am responsible for reminding them of details that I think the should have recorded. Like I said, not horrible! But there have been a few moments.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Molina Dayal at STL Fertility.
If I remember correctly, IUIs were somewhere around $1,000 a piece (roughly), and we've been quoted about $10,000 for the first round of egg retrieval, $5,000 if we have to do a second round, $3,000-6,000 for meds (ours is $4,250), $450 for anesthetic, and approximately $5,000 for transfers.
Describe Molina Dayal's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
We have not yet gone through the process of IVF, but in our preliminary discussions, she has mentioned the odds of success for single vs. multiple and does seem to have a medical bias towards single. It seems like she would allow us to do two if we chose two, but she is definitely recommending one (which we will likely follow!)

I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Witten. He was very thorough in explaining the process. He was great about changing our course of treatment as needed as different issues came up with my endo. I had an endometrioma pop up during the time I was getting shots. He decided he would do the egg retrieval but may need to delay the transfer for me to have surgery to remove the endometrioma. He knew how upset this made me as I had already had 2 laparoscopic
Everyone in the clinic [SIRM St. Louis] was super helpful and supportive. We felt like they were all rooting us on which was great to have such a wonderful support team in people we had only met a couple months earlier.... Our nurse coordinator was AMAZING! If I had any questions or concerns I could email or call her and she would get back to me right away. She never made me feel like I was nuisance or that I asked too many questions.

He knew how upset this made me as I had already had 2 laparoscopic surgeries that year to remove the endo. He wanted to do everything he could to avoid me having another surgery for the year. As he did my egg retrieval he was able to rupture the endometrioma so we could complete transfer right away!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
Do EVERYTHING by the book. They lay out everything you need to know and do to achieve best results. Even though it may be hard or inconvenient it pays off.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
Dr. Witten and his staff treated us like family. He made us feel super comfortable through out the process. We knew that he would always be honest with us even if it was something we didn't want to hear. I appreciated how he delivered any road blocks. He'd present it in a delicate way with solutions to follow.
Describe the protocols Barry Witten (retired) used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
Due to my diagnosis of endometriosis and low ovarian reserve, we used a higher dose of the follistim. During my treatment, an endometrioma began growing again. It caused a lot of discomfort as my ovaries were very enlarged from the meds. After retrieval I began to feel much better after about a week. My ovaries were going back to normal and Dr. Witten ruptured my endometrioma during retrieval. Because of the aggressive nature of my endometriosis, Dr. Witten recommended transferring 2 embryos. We now have 8 month old boy/girl twins!!

Describe Barry Witten (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
My husband and I completely trusted Dr. Witten's advice on how many embryos to transfer. He recommended we transfer 2 due to the aggressive nature of my endometriosis. We understood the risks involved with multiples and decided to take his advice. We are very glad we did.

Dr Zarek is hands down the most amazing Doctor I've every had! She always explained everything and sat down and made sure my husband and I's questions were answer before she left the room. She takes her time and made sure we were comfortable and knew what was going on and what to expect. Even if we had a question after we left the clinic she wanted us to call her so that we wouldn't keep wondering. Without Dr. Zarek who knows if we would have had any children but with the love, support, and knowledge of Dr.Zarek we are blessed with a bundle of joy!

Really the only thing I can remember her suggesting is for my husband and I to do IVF bc we had male infertility and with the IUI it may not be worth the time and money with the issues we had with some of the sperm counts

My experience with Dr. Witten spans about a 2 year time frame and if I had to do it all over again, I would most definitely choose a different RE.... He waited over a year to even attempt any medication, even after telling us that we had to rush because I have very low ovarian reserve.... His treatments are very reserved, not an aggressive go getter type.... I felt like we needed medication but he wouldn't even discuss it.
They [Sher Fertility of St. Louis] did not offer late appointments available for those of us that work. Latest appointments were 3pm. When you live 60 miles away and work, it made it very frustrating for my employer to work around this doctor's schedule. The receptionist was very loud when talking about my appointment when I would arrive. Which I found very embarrassing.... There were so many nurses running around. I had a different nurse at every appointment...
How was your experience with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
The right Reproductive Endocrinologist for you can be the difference between success or heartache. Therefore, I want my review to be as honest as possible so others can make an educated choice. My experience with Dr. Witten spans about a 2 year time frame and if I had to do it all over again, I would most definitely choose a different RE. We were struggling to conceive so I was instructed to see a RE by my Ob-Gyn. She gave me a list of RE's that came recommended but I settled on Dr. Witten, who was not on her list. We wanted to be seen by an older RE, thinking his years of experience would be an advantage. Under Dr. Witten's care, I received an HSG, which revealed one of my fallopian tubes was not spilling any dye. Dr. Witten said that he thought the other one was fine He recommended a laparoscopy surgery. Dr. Witten does not do surgery, he did not tell me this, I just figured it out after he advised me to have my Ob-Gyn do the surgery. My Ob-gyn said she preferred him to do the surgery so they went back and forth. I had been complaining for the majority of my life how awful my periods were but no one would ever listen. After 2 months in lingo, Dr. Witten referred me to the gynecological surgeon he apparently sends all of his patients to. So off I went to surgery with a different doctor, who ultimately discovered endometriosis and a damaged tube. He removed the tube and removed the endometriosis and sent me back to Dr. Witten. Dr. Witten continued to monitor me, we'd do ultra-sounds constantly but not much direction was given, other than he kept wanting us to do timed intercourse, which is what we'd been doing for the past 1.5 years with no luck without a RE. I felt like we needed medication but he wouldn't even discuss it. It took so many ultrasounds-2-3x a week, traveling 60 miles one way to his office and leaving work early just to hear the same old spiel. One day, during an ultrasound he mentioned IUI but he said I needed to do it right away because I was about to ovulate. I had not been on any medications but trusted him so I received 1 trigger shot and had an IUI the next day. It failed. I was told at his office that the IUI would cost $525 but once I got to Sher Institute, which is where he does the IUI, they told me the price was $1000. They did honor the original price I was told but informed me any future IUI's would be $1000 a piece. Then the next 2 cycles he put me on clomid, with no pregnancy resulting. He then suggested IVF, which is not in our budget no matter how bad we want to have a child. We were devastated and felt as though he did not give us enough time on medication early on to try an IUI again. He waited over a year to even attempt any medication, even after telling us that we had to rush because I have very low ovarian reserve. We are devastated and haven't been back. We are currently doing research to find a RE that better fits us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
Ask questions and demand answers. Do research before your appointments and ask about medication and treatment options starting with your first appointment and everyone thereafter. I regret that we didn't push harder, wasting valuable egg quality time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
I usually was made to feel like a human being. There were times he was busy and I felt somewhat rushed but that was not the norm.
Describe the protocols Barry Witten (retired) used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
IUI, with 1 trigger shot. Clomid with timed intercourse. His treatments are very reserved, not an aggressive go getter type.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at STL Fertility.
There were so many nurses running around. I had a different nurse at every appointment, especially once he permanently moved his office to Sher Institute. I had no idea who was coming and going in my room.
Describe your experience with STL Fertility.
They did not offer late appointments available for those of us that work. Latest appointments were 3pm. When you live 60 miles away and work, it made it very frustrating for my employer to work around this doctor's schedule. The receptionist was very loud when talking about my appointment when I would arrive. Which I found very embarrassing. She was also very loud when asking for my payment at each appointment. Anyone sitting in the waiting room could hear the receptionist utter things like, 'So, we need your full payment for your 'IUI' or 'oh, you are here for your vaginal ultrasound?'. That's jus awful to blurt it all out right there. She never seemed to know what was going on and everytime Dr. Witten would tell me to schedule another appointment she had to ask me what it was for. I would think most places would just read the chart and make the appointment without asking 20 personal questions in the reception lobby for all to hear. Also, the clinic is extremely busy. Nurses speed walking everywhere, seems disorganized, phones ringing and only one person answering. Hard to get anyone's attention...
Describe the costs associated with your care under Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility.
At least $5000, maybe more for just doctor appointments, very little medicine and 1 IUI.

I knew she [Dr. Molina Dayal] was in the trenches with us and wanted us to have a child. She was sympathetic and understanding to our needs. She never made us feel like we were anything but family. I can not speak highly enough about her or her staff. These people created my twins and will forever hold a spot in our hearts.... She would hug you on a bad day and be a cheerleader on a good day. She never made us feel like a patient but more like family. She cared whether we got pregnant or not.
They [nurses at SIRM-STL]never sugar coated which I greatly appreciated. I am a "give it to me straight" and they always did this. I formed relationships with all of the staff and I would get excited to see them during my appointments. I coined MaryKay "my woobie" she was my security blanket and she always made me feel calm and relaxed. Also Jamie was fantastic to my husband and I. She gave me her cell number because I was such a worry wart and would let me text her whenever.

Take each step of the fertility treatment one step at a time. I found it worked best for us by taking each hurdle of this process one at a time versus having everything thrown at you at once. Dr. Dayal always did this for us.

My biggest complaint would be that it was bought out by Intermed and was ran a little more aggressively when it came to money. This was not anyone at the clinics fault and you would never know they were switched to a more corporate type place.

I want to say around 10,000.00 for a fresh cycle and 3,500 for a frozen.

Dr Witten is a pleasure to work with through this difficult life journey. Compassionate, knowledgeable, and personal he made this entire process so much better. He is dedicated to ensuring both my husband and I understand every step, but always makes sure we don't get ahead of ourselves. He is a rock during a very difficult time and I would recommend him to anyone... I have PCOS and annovluation. I was not responding to clomid so he immediately switched me to low dose femara where we had great follicle growth. When he found out we weren't ovulating he adjusted our protocol by adding an hcg trigger shot to force ovulation. He performed all tests to ensure we didn't have any other problems but felt an IUi would still improve our chances of a positive cycle so we proceeded with that. After numerous failed cycles (just not the right genes!) he took us into the next step where we used follistim. He was very in tune with my bodies reactions and while we ultimately had 3 great eggs, none took and I showed signs of OHSS which has led us to begin ivf.
The clinic [SIRM-STL] is great, the appointments have good timing always doing ultra sounds and blood work before 10 am allowing me to get to work no problem.... I've only had one meeting with Amanda [a nurse] (since we just moved onto ivf) but she was extremely organized and prepared. Alerting us of all our choices and answering all of out questions. She presented us with a calendar of medications and other appointments bringing some serious organization and dependency to this chaotic life challenge. She is positive and bubbly which makes a big difference!

Dr Witten is open to a single or double embryo transfer because I am young, have an optimal body weight, and in overall good health. We haven't made our decision yet but he has provided information so we feel very informed

I absolutely loved my doctor and am so thankful to have found Dr. Witten and the other ladies at the Sher Institute. They truly have been a blessing to me and my family & have made this process so much easier...Don't be afraid to ask questions. He will tell you everything and anything you want to know...I was very sore and in pain after my retrieval but Dr. Witten gave me antibiotics and pain meds that helped. I healed for the next month and started back on birth control and now I'm starting my transfer meds. Dexamethazon, Lupron again, Estrace, Prenatals, Folic Acid.

How was your experience with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
I was so scared and nervous to start the IVF process. As soon as I walked into my first appointment I knew that The Lord put Dr. Witten and his team in my life for a reason. They made me feel comfortable and happy every time I saw them. This is a very hard and long processto go through but I always felt so much better and so hopeful after every appointment. It's like I have a extended family that knows me and greets me like they see me everyday even when I haven't seen them in weeks. I started on birth control and Lipton gonal f and menopur for my egg retrieval. My dosage was very low because I'm so young and my body reacted fast and well. I had my egg retrieval and Dr. Witten retrieved 24 eggs. 15 made it to fertilization then we were able to freeze 8 day 5 blastocyst. I was very sore and in pain after my retrieval but Dr. Witten gave me antibiotics and pain meds that helped. I healed for the next month and started back on birth control and now I'm starting my transfer meds. Dexamethazon, Lupron again, Estrace, Prenatals, Folic Acid. My insurance told us that I was covered until two days before I started medication. We were going to cancel the entire thing but my mom decided to pay it on a credit card. She paid $8,000. Luckily my insurance paid most of my medication fees, we only paid about $200 out of pocket for those and probably less than $500 all together for other tests like bloodwork and ultrasounds. We live 3 hours away from clinic and it's the closest one so we did have to stay in hotels so that is about $500 in hotel costs through the entire process.
Describe Barry Witten (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at STL Fertility.
I agree with what Dr. Witten wants to do. If he feels like he should just do one I trust him.

He [Dr. Witten] is very thorough and wants to make sure his patient understands fully what is happening inside their body. He was always very optimistic and had just a great overall energy about him. He was extra caring and accommodating for different circumstances that arose along the way...He wanted to make sure I was ovulating so we started out the first few cycles with just clomid and timed intercourse. Those all resulted in negative pregnancy results
They [Sher Fertility of St Louis] are very compassionate and caring. Great communication. Negatives are it's a very very small clinic in a large hospital...[Nurses] they were all very accommodating to my needs and requests. They got back in touch with you very promptly and with the answers you needed...$50 for each visit. $89-110 for each trigger shot About $400 to test for tubal blockage....He [Dr. Witten] is very thorough and wants to make sure his patient understands fully what is happening inside their body.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
He does have an accent because he is from New Zealand I believe so just keep that in mind. But I don't think it negatively affects his communication.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Barry Witten (retired) at STL Fertility?
He always remembered my name and the name of others who came with me and the recreational activities I talked about during small talk from the previous visits. He always asked how each of my family members were doing.
Describe the protocols Barry Witten (retired) used in your cycles at STL Fertility and their degree of success.
He wanted to make sure I was ovulating so we started out the first few cycles with just clomid and timed intercourse. Those all resulted in negative pregnancy results, but after the first few cycles of my body not responding, he decided to do a tubal X-ray to make sure my tubes were open. He determined they were open and I was in fact ovulating. So the 4th cycle I was on clomid and timed trigger shot. This was also negative. The next three cycles have been clomid, timed trigger shot, and IUI. The first two resulted in negatives and I am currently in the last cycle in the two week waiting period. If this results in a negative he wants to move on and do other tests and for me to lose weight.
