Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

He [Dr. Vinay Gunnala] was kind and patient when explaining the IUI and/or IVF process to me. He prepared me with all of the facts and statistics and allowed me to decide on how I wanted to proceed. I felt as though he cared about every one of his patients and would do everything he could for us to be successful. His protocol was a standard IUI and IVF protocol but I felt confident that he was closely monitoring me during my IUI's and retrievals and always adjusted my protocol as needed.
The [Southwest Fertility Center] clinic has an app/portal that you can use that stores all your labs and instructions which made it very convenient. They would message you through the portal with instructions for the next few days during your retrieval but it would have been nice if a calendar was also given so that you could see everything laid out all at once. There is also no way to print your labs from the app.
How was your experience with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Dr Gunnala was my first fertility doctor when I was brand new in the world of infertility. He was kind and patient when explaining the IUI and/or IVF process to me. He prepared me with all of the facts and statistics and allowed me to decide on how I wanted to proceed. I felt as though he cared about every one of his patients and would do everything he could for us to be successful. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Be patient when calling the office and leaving a message. You will always get a call back but it may not be on the same day.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Dr. Gunnala is the warmest and most sincere and compassionate doctor I have ever worked with. He (along with the rest of the staff) laughed with me at the best of times and cried with me at the worst of times. Dr. Gunnala always took the time to fully explain everything in ways that I could understand and consistently consulted with me frequently throughout my time there. I never felt rushed or pressured to go into a treatment that I wasn't prepared to do.
Describe the protocols Vinay Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I had 2 retrievals with Dr. Gunnala and was on an antagonist protocol. I used menopur, gonal F, cetrotide with a lupron or HCG trigger.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Southwest Fertility Center.
The nursing staff overall did a fine job and they were all very nice and helpful. Of course, there were a few that were a bit more warm and welcoming than others but overall the were there for me every step of the way and I have no complaints about them.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center.
My first retrieval was 12k not including the cost of meds which is on the lower end of prices for the Phoenix area.
Describe Vinay Gunnala's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southwest Fertility Center.
I only had one euploid embryo so transferring two embryos was not an option for me.

How was your experience with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
I’ve never had a bad experience with Dr.Vinay. He has always treated me with compassion and true heart. I’ve had a difficult fertility journey. I had chose a donor that ended up not producing what we had expected. He didn’t let me lose hope. He helped me pick another donor and we finally received good quality embryos. After 4yrs I had finally seen a positive pregnancy test. Unfortunately when I went in for my 9wk us there was no heartbeat. He quickly hugged me and made feel like everything will be ok. He got me scheduled for a d an c. Unfortunately it was during the heart of Covid so I was left to check into the hospital all alone. Dr. Vinay was there every moment making sure I didn’t feel alone. He was absolutely amazing during my darkest hrs.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Dr.Vinay is truly a kind, compassionate, and smart doctor. Who absolutely loves his PowerPoints. Lol
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Dr.Vinay didn’t treat me like just another pt or statistic. He took the time to listen to me and made me feel heard.
Describe the protocols Vinay Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
He originally suggested I have surgery to remove my fibroid as it was large and weighing on my uterus. After my surgery we did our first round of ivf. Unfortunately we ended up with less follicles than ever before. So we canceled that cycle and tried again. We used different meds and this time I got 6 eggs. Of the 6, we got 4 embryos. We transferred 2 on day 5 and the other 2 didn’t make it to freeze. Once that pregnancy test came back negative we decided to go straight to donor eggs so I would have a better chance at having a baby.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Southwest Fertility Center.
The nurses at Southwest are the sweetest. They are very compassionate and caring. Agatha, and Lana are amazing at what they do.

The nurses are very thorough in teaching what meds to take, and how to take them. Infertility is a scary, stressful, and sad thing to go through. I’m very happy that i was referred to Southwest fertility. I know eventually Dr.Vinay and his team will get me my rainbow baby. Dr. Vinay is the best!!!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center.
Between iui, ivfx2, donor cycle x2 I would say it cost roughly 50,000
Describe Vinay Gunnala's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southwest Fertility Center.
Dr. Vinay suggested to transfer two embryos that were created from my own eggs because we were afraid quality may not be the best. We also transferred the only two, day 3 embryos we received from our first donor cycle because once again we weren’t sure the quality was there. On our 2nd donor we transferred only 1 because the embryos were the best quality. I respected his approach with each transfer. I think it’s what was for the best.

Dr. Gunnala was the advocate that I/we needed...takes the time to understand your goals and your limitations and worked with us to create a treatment plan that fit our needs...made sure that we always had all of our questions answered...really listens, I never felt like a number...my appointments were never rushed, and he always remembered me because he truly cares about each of his patients...
They [Southwest Fertility Center] are so warm and welcoming. If I needed to speak to a nurse, someone in billing or the IVF coordinator, all I had to do was call. I LOVE that they don’t use an app for communication. They are much more personable and will provide the support that is needed...I never waited long for my appointments and almost always saw Dr. G-- even if it was just in the hall passing by, he'd say hello.
How was your experience with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
The very first time I met with him was over the phone. The first thing he said to me was “struggling with fertility is hard, especially when it has gone on for an extended period of time. You should not only be proud of yourself for finding the strength to continue, but you should be proud the strength that you have between you and your spouse because this is also very challenging for couples”. That type of acknowledgement was so appreciated, I knew that he was going to be a good fit from the beginning. Dr. Gunnala was the advocate that I/we needed. Dr. Gunnala takes the time to understand your goals and your limitations and worked with us to create a treatment plan that fit our needs. He explained things in a way that were easy to understand and made sure that we always had all of our questions answered.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
I wish I had found him sooner. He is straightforward but in a kind and respectful way. He set appropriate expectations but I knew that no matter what the outcome, I would feel that we made the right choice by putting our trust in him and SWFC.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
He really listens, I never felt like a number (which I did at a couple other practices), my appointments were never rushed, and he always remembered me because he truly cares about each of his patients. They are so warm and welcoming. If I needed to speak to a nurse, someone in billing or the IVF coordinator, all I had to do was call. I LOVE that they don’t use an app for communication. They are much more personable and will provide the support that is needed.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Southwest Fertility Center.
I think the majority of providers have been with SWFC for over 20 years-- that says a lot about a practice. The nurses that I interacted with were fantastic. They were kind, thorough and excellent resources. I could easily speak to one after hours if there was an urgent need. I really appreciated being able to actually speak with a nurse if needed.
Describe your experience with Southwest Fertility Center.
They are in the process of renovating their practice. When I was last there, the clinic is on the top floor and the new build will be the first level. It looks like it's going to be a beautifully updated space. I like that it's centrally located. I never waited long for my appointments and almost always saw Dr. G-- even if it was just in the hall passing by, he'd say hello.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center.
Total IVF cycle cost with meds was around 15k (not including PGS), $1100 for IUI.
Describe Vinay Gunnala's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southwest Fertility Center.
Because I am older and have DOR, he offered a few different options. One was to skip the pre-implantation testing and instead put up to 3 embryos back to reduce the risk of losing a healthy embryo through the waiting period until the testing could be done.

Dr Vinay [Gunnala] is thorough and takes time to explain every step of this arduous process...compassionate when discussing sensitive topics. He is responsive to emails and was honest with probabilities during our IVF process...We were on a down-regulated Gonal-F, Ganirelix protocol with a Lupron Trigger to lower the risk of OHSS...In the end we ended up with mild ohss, and due to the number of embryos, Dr Vinay insisted that we freeze-all and have a frozen transfer in another cycle.
This clinic [Southwest Fertility Center] has experience and it is a blessing and a curse. I have full faith in the Dr’s and most of the Nurses, but the office staff is rough around the edges. Due to the tenure of many of the office staff, they tend to assume that their new patients know the process as thoroughly as they do. This is not the case and can be confusing or rushed to a new patient. Do your research and be prepared to ask questions.
How was your experience with Vinay Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Dr Vinay is new to this clinic that has been in Phoenix since 1980. He is thorough and compassionate when discussing sensitive topics. He is responsive to emails and was honest with probabilities during our IVF process

Dr Vinay is thorough and takes time to explain every step of this arduous process.
Describe the protocols Vinay Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Given our diagnosis, pcos with 4.5amh , and severe male factor, Dr Vinay recommended IVf with ICSI and a goal of a fresh transfer. We were on a down-regulated Gonal-F, Ganirelix protocol with a Lupron Trigger to lower the risk of OHSS. On the day of retrieval we extracted 25 egg, 19 of which were mature. Of those 11 fertilized and 3 reached day 5 embryo. In the end we ended up with mild ohss, and due to the number of embryos, Dr Vinay insisted that we freeze-all and have a frozen transfer in another cycle. The FET cycle protocol was lupron , estrogen and progesterone. Dr Vinay again was open and communicative during this process. We received the results of our Hcg-beta of 191 on day 11 after FET.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Southwest Fertility Center.
Most of the nurses were excellent. One was less than stellar, and tended to rush through important information like the pre-ivf disclosures.

Our first fresh transfer [with Dr. Gunnala] we did a single embryo transfer. Because my embryos were of average quality for the frozen transfer she suggested we transfer 2, we took her advice and did 2 of which 1 was successful... is warm, blunt, and gives very in depth descriptions of expectations and care as well as what to expect...was amazing from start to finish. She set realistic expectations and told us the likelihood of our first transfer working was about 20% so when it didn't work although I was upset, I wasn't blindsided having known the odds of a transfer working go up with each successive transfer. She was an amazing cheerleader throughout the entire ordeal and always made us feel welcome, informed and loved like family.
The clinic [Southwest Fertility Center] and staff are all organized and professional. I can't think of a single thing I'd change. Describe the protocols Sujatha Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Our diagnosis was MFI so the only thing we were battling was poor sperm quality. Both cycles we used gonal f and menopur as well as cetrotide. For the fresh transfer we used progesterone, prednisone and keflex. For the frozen transfer we used lupron, estrace, progesterone, keflex, and prednisone. We did a frozen secondary transfer because we had a higher dose of menopur and gonal f the 2nd round in order to raise the number of mature eggs, that was successful but because the two cycles were back to back I overstimulated and was unable to do a fresh transfer.

I was very pleased with the care I received from Dr. Gunnala. We are out of state and I was concerned about the logistics.... I did not meet her face to face until we flew out for our procedure. She had FaceTime conference calls with me and phone calls. All of her orders were written up and emailed to me to review and to make sure there were no miscommunications....My protocol was for a frozen embryo transfer. I was prescribed prenatals, vitamin D, Co-Q10.
I was happy with this clinic [Southwest Fertility Center]. The facility is not flashy. I chose them because they had the right embryos for our family and have recommended them to others looking for a donor embryo program....An unexpected expense was paying the coordinator fee per transfer cycle. I had thought that was a one time fee and it was an unpleasant surprise when our cycle failed....Agatha was wonderful. She is the coordinator for donor stuff. We used embryos that had been created at the clinic and donated by another couple anonymously.
How was your experience with Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
I was very pleased with the care I received from Dr. Gunnala. We are out of state and I was concerned about the logistics. On top of that, this was our very first time pursuing fertility treatments, so I felt like a duck out of water. I liked that she offered consultations via FaceTime and phone calls. I found I had to concentrate very hard when listening due to her accent. I appreciated the follow up emails that had all of her instructions written down so there were no miscommunications. I did not meet Dr. Gunnala in person until I flew out for my procedure. She was warm and I felt comfortable with her. I was happy with my care and plan on going back to her for a second try with our remaining donated embryos.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Do not be afraid to ask for clarification or follow up questions. Ask away.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
I appreciated my care. I felt like the protocol she used for our embryo transfer was appropriate and aggressive. We are out of state and I was very concerned how that would work. I did not meet her face to face until we flew out for our procedure. She had FaceTime conference calls with me and phone calls. All of her orders were written up and emailed to me to review and to make sure there were no miscommunications. Her nurse coordinator, Agatha, is wonderful as well and always available. We did not get the positive results we were hoping for the first time and I felt they both handled that with care.
Describe the protocols Sujatha Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
My protocol was for a frozen embryo transfer. I was prescribed prenatals, vitamin D, Co-Q10. I took birth control to prevent ovulation and control my cycle before transfer. Estrogen and progesterone were used to grow the lining of my uterus to an appropriate thickness and sustain a pregnancy (if achieved). I was also on baby aspirin (blood thinner), antibiotics (to prevent infection). I responded appropriately to her protocol and had one "perfect" (according to the embryologist) embryo transferred. Our cycle was not successful. I think our chances of success were at 40-50%.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Southwest Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Agatha)
Agatha was wonderful. She is the coordinator for donor stuff. We used embryos that had been created at the clinic and donated by another couple anonymously. Agatha was always available via email. A couple times she even responded to me while on vacation. She was very comprehensive and I was thankful for her care and wonderful communication.
Describe your experience with Southwest Fertility Center.
I was happy with this clinic. The facility is not flashy. I chose them because they had the right embryos for our family and have recommended them to others looking for a donor embryo program. There is a coordination fee and we were assessed that for transferring a second time. Overall, I felt the costs were reasonable. I was not expecting to pay that more than once. We also paid a storage fee for the embryos, which I was expecting.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center.
I don't remember specific costs. They were more expensive than clinics like CNY, but less expensive than clinics like California Conceptions. Traveling to them also made it more expensive. An unexpected expense was paying the coordinator fee per transfer cycle. I had thought that was a one time fee and it was an unpleasant surprise when our cycle failed. But, I thought the financial coordinator handled it with compassion. We also paid for embryo storage yearly since we have remaining embryos. We will pay that annually until we use all the embryos or decide to be done. Additional costs were medications and outside monitoring.
Describe Sujatha Gunnala's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southwest Fertility Center.
Dr. Gunnala encouraged a single embryo transfer. Given that this was our first transfer and there were several embryos, I felt this was appropriate.

Our understanding is that this cycle plan [with Dr. Gunnala] was aggressive (to do the clomid challenge and an IUI in the same cycle) and that Dr. G did this because she knew we had a challenging time line with my partner's work/travel. The doctor had discovered that I had a small uterine polyp in my original work up (during the clomid challenge). She said this is not in and of itself a reason for infertility, but said it would be smart to remove it in case it is malignant or results in problems during an eventual pregnancy
they [the staff at Southwest Fertility Center] were very kind and knowledgeable... took our special case (my partner travels for work which complicates this journey) into account. However, the RNs consistently did not introduce themselves. I think it's a small enough clinic that they just forget who they have personally met and whose case they just know of. It felt odd to have a transvaginal ultrasound or be inseminated by someone whose first name you don't know!
How was your experience with Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
She was patient and seemed knowledgeable. She answered all our questions and was understanding about our special circumstances (partner travels for work which complicates this journey). She was direct as possible. I would like a clear reason why this isn't happening for us, but I'm not sure a clear reason exists. #infertility
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
Make sure you write down questions before hand and take notes in your visit. I think this is important with all providers, but I think it's especially important in this office, not so much because of Dr. Gunnala, but to make sure what you understand is also what's communicated to the rest of the care team.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center?
The people (MD, RNs, NPs etc.) were very caring and took our special case (my partner travels for work which complicates this journey) into account. However, the RNs consistently did not introduce themselves. I think it's a small enough clinic that they just forget who they have personally met and whose case they just know of. It felt odd to have a transvaginal ultrasound or be inseminated by someone whose first name you don't know! Otherwise, they were very kind and knowledgeable.
Describe the protocols Sujatha Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I came into her care at the end of a cycle with clomid (50mg) and an at home DIY IUI. She had me take a pregnancy test (neg) and set the course for cycle 2 (or 1.5 really). In that cycle, I took a "clomid challenge" so 100 mg clomid days 3-7 with an FSH test on day 3 and day 10. This was to test my ovarian reserve, since a previous blood test showed I had low a low AMH level. The "Clomid Challenge" seemed to go well, my numbers suggested that the AMH level was an outlier. I wish it were clearer to me if this means I am NOT diagnosed with low ovarian reserve. Dr. G said I only have 1/4 indicators so not to worry about this. Under the clomid challenge, I had 6 maturing eggs. The RN said I would likely ovulate cycle day 13 based on my ultrasound. This would be a very early ovulation for me, I usually ovulate cycle day 17-19. I did what looked to me like a surge on my OPK and went in for IUI on cycle day 12. I continued to take my BBT and noticed that, even by cycle day 16 my temp had not spiked. I called and insisted that they check to see if I had in fact ovulated. With some convincing, they agreed, and cycle day 17 they checked my progesterone. I had not ovulated! Cycle day 18 I went in for an ultrasound and more blood work. This showed that I was starting to ovulate, and that evening I felt some serious ovulation cramps. The ultrasound suggested I would ovulate with 4 eggs (thanks, clomid!). Cycle day 19 (and the day I had, through previous cycle monitoring, predicted I would ovulate) I went in for IUI #2. Unfortunately IUI 2 my partners #s were lower, 8.4 million post sperm wash, but it only takes 1 and I had 4 eggs, so you take what you can get! Unfortunately, that IUI did not take. I had a neg blood test cycle day 28 (10 days Post Ovulation and IUI#2). They had me take a second blood test cycle day 32 and I started my period Cycle day 33, with much sadness. Our understanding is that this cycle plan was aggressive (to do the clomid challenge and an IUI in the same cycle) and that Dr. G did this because she knew we had a challenging time line with my partner's work/travel. The doctor had discovered that I had a small uterine polyp in my original work up (during the clomid challenge). She said this is not in and of itself a reason for infertility, but said it would be smart to remove it in case it is malignant or results in problems during an eventual pregnancy (if it ever happens! please let it happen!). We had agreed to remove the polyp after the IUI cycle if it was unsuccessful. After this unsuccessful cycle, we realized that the cycle with the surgery would be a lost cycle (having been scraped of polyps, my uterus would most likely NOT be up for implantation). We also knew that we would be leaving town in April and unable to seek care from her or any other doctor (my partner travels for work, so we move about every 3 months, which complicates this journey). We asked if, given the size of the polyp and the complications of our calendar, we could try for another IUI cycle in March and then complete the polyp surgery in April, when the cycle would be lost to care anyway. The doctor declined this request. She felt the polyp needed to be removed. I had the polyp removed yesterday, I was out for the whole procedure and felt groggy but completely fine today. We are disappointed that we'll likely have to wait until May for any forward progress to continue, but understand why the doctor proceeded as she did.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Southwest Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Lana)
The office seemed to suffer for lack of an office manager. We frequently had to call in to get even time test results (after being told we would receive a phone call). On one occasion they forgot to put my name on the schedule (although they accommodated me at the time I was told of my appointment anyway). I always have lots of questions and prefer when I'm given clear explanations that do not dismiss my concerns. Some nurses had a communication style that I think was meant to be caring and comforting ("honey stop worrying your little head about that, I can make babies in my sleep!") but I found belittling and dismissive. This was not my experience with all of the nursing staff, others were very direct, patient, and understanding.
Describe your experience with Southwest Fertility Center.
Strengths include you can call and ask questions and expect an answer that day or early the next day. You can also get in for appointments quickly and work within the unpredictable nature of your cycle. The weaknesses include some office organization and protocol. All staff should introduce themselves every time and we often had to call to get test results.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center.
We spent about $2500 on our various tests, visits, and two IUIs.
Describe Sujatha Gunnala's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southwest Fertility Center.
We did not do a embryo transfer, however we were told that if we had more than 4 eggs ovulate in a cycle, that they would not move forward with an IUI, even though they have the ability to "selectively reduce" implantations. We would have had LOTS of questions had that been the case.
What specific things went wrong at Southwest Fertility Center?
  • Lost appointments
  • Failed to call with results
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Southwest Fertility Center.
I've written as much in previous texts. There was one case where I was told to come in for blood work only to find that I had not been put on their schedule. They were able to fit me in at the time I had been originally told, regardless. During my time there, I had many blood tests and was always told that I would get a phone call with the results that day. Sometimes the results didn't mean anything to me (my progesterone level was not going to make or break my day, for instance), but sometimes I was waiting on pins and needles (for my 2 pregnancy tests, and for the 2 tests saying whether or not I had in fact ovulated). I only received a phone call for 1 of these more pressing tests. For the other 3 tests, I called 20 minutes before the clinic closed to ask about the results. This was especially upsetting for the ovulation tests because it would change how and when we proceeded. Should I give myself a trigger shot? Should my partner take off work so that we could move forward with an IUI? If they had not called, we would not have known. When I did call, they said someone had called me and maybe left a message (my phone showed no phone call or message). This seems to be a real outlier for this clinic, but was upsetting nevertheless. I've learned that, especially with fertility issues, it's important to advocate for yourself!

Dr. Gunnala does a very good job of communicating the rationale for her thought process regarding the treatment and the particular cause(s) for infertility. She has a warm bedside manner and is thorough but efficient. I always felt that I had enough time to discuss all of my questions. However, I'm not sure the success rates she proposed reflect reality. However, I think she might have glossed over certain details in an effort to follow our wishes. For example trying to maximize the success of the first transfer (IVF, ICSI, PGS, FET) without evaluating whether that would truly make a significant difference for us as a couple with unexplained infertility.
The physical building itself [for Southwest Fertility Center] is outdated and not in the best condition, however, the staff has all been there for many years, works well together, and seems to genuinely care about their patients.Shelley and Agatha [nurses] were both really approachable and compassionate, however, it didn't always seem like vital information was relayed... For one a hysteroscopy, IUI, approximately 4 ultrasounds, and multiple blood tests; I paid around $1500.

She shared some of her fertility journey with me, seemed to really understand the emotional burden of infertility, and gave me and my husband a hug at the end of our first visit.
Describe the protocols Sujatha Gunnala used in your cycles at Southwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Natural cycle IUI which was unsucessful. IVF with ICSI and PGS planned.

Describe your experience with Southwest Fertility Center.
The physical building itself is outdated and not in the best condition, however, the staff has all been there for many years, works well together, and seems to genuinely care about their patients. I distinctly remember being in the lobby waiting for my appointment when I heard a couple that just finished with their appointment cracking up with the staff as they were checking out and when they walked out, they raved about the office to all of us in the waiting room.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Sujatha Gunnala at Southwest Fertility Center.
My insurance covered very little. For one a hysteroscopy, IUI, approximately 4 ultrasounds, and multiple blood tests; I paid around $1500.
Describe Sujatha Gunnala's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southwest Fertility Center.
Strong preference for single embryo transfer to minimize the complications of pregnancy.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Southwest Fertility Center.
I found it excessively difficult to communicate with an actual person in the office. The nurse line consistently went to voicemail (understandable as I'm sure they were busy working with patients) but I had a hard time getting a phone call back in a timely fashion. Additionally, a pharmacy had a question about a medication and wasn't able to get in touch with anyone for two days. I had a test and was told that I would receive a call about two hours later regarding the results (which would change the course) and wasn't called until after I already had my appointment. When I tried to call, again, it went to voicemail.

Dr G [Gunnala] is compassionate. She has an amazing bedside manner. She is smart and has been doing this along time. She comes across as strategic. She is gentle. What helps is that she says “when you are pregnant... this is the next step.” Not just— if you can get pregnant. In those little ways, her words give hope.... Dr G is a hands on person. She comforts you. She held my hand before surgery. She asked if I was understanding along the way. She doesn’t rush. She doesn’t make you feel like any questions are out of the norm. She reminds you to be a couple in love and not just two patients. She is amazing.
Fran at check in is wonderful! It [Southwest Fertility Ctr] feels small enough to be managed and you are not just a number. I wish it were closer to where I live (west valley) but I travel because they are the best. The practice may look a little old school but it’s kinda comforting you aren’t walking into a fancy office . You’re paying a lot of money to be there and something about the simplicity of it makes you feel better.

Be committed to whatever she recommends (ie: diet, exercise, meds) as she is going off what info you share and she is trying her best to help you start a family. She can do her part, but yes u must do yours.

She [Dr. Gunnala] was kind and thorough but we did not see her often. Most of the time the nurses handled things. She wanted to continue with IUI despite having severe male factor where she should have moved us to IVF sooner...First round did IUI as part of a Clomid challenge diagnostic test. She put my husband on Clomid to up his count and we did another IUI. His count did not his 2mil so she took him off Clomid but wanted to do a third IUI. I used Clomid the first, low dose follistim for the second and increased follistim the third cycle.
Due to an employee being late [at Southwest Fertility Center], our semen specimen did not get processed for 30 minutes past the 1 hour deadline for an IUI...Most of the time the clinic and staff were great. The billing person was available to answer questions any time I had any...The staff knew my name during cycles and were available anytime I called. Information and lab results were entered into a portal so I had access to everything.

He even said they'd work with me regarding ultrasounds he needs taken in his office, not something you hear from fertility clinics very often... said yesterday that his nurses would be sending me a message today containing everything he spoke about during the teleconsult including tests he was going to order. I haven't yet received it and when I called I discovered they had closed almost two hours early. Some of these tests need to be done soon if I'm going to start in September so I'm concerned.
[Southwest Fertility Center] has an IVF package starting at $5300 that has made IVF affordable to me. Unfortunately, the meds will run between $3-8000 and I'm hoping they will submit a preauth ahead of time so I can find out how much insurance will cover...Weakness: One of the nurses was not very knowledgeable at all and had me worried SW Fertility was not equipped to handle me as an out-of-state patient. This ended up being completely false. Strengths: Fran's really on top of things and Dr. Vinay Gunnala is a top doctor that I have a lot of faith in.

He [Dr. Vinay Gunnala] explains each procedure in details step by step and make sure my husband and I don’t get lost in conversations. We are both new and nervous to the procedure and he’s with us walking us through...He’s very much involved in every detail. We come in for blood work he’s there to greet majority of time even if it’s-a quick wave as he’s passing the room. It’s really nice. He makes sure at the end of the visit, we understand what’s needed why it’s needed as well as provide options and recommendations. There’s never no pressure.
We’re happy with our choice to work with Southwest Fertility Center. His team is welcoming and friendly. Like family. Love the vibe overall...The clinic overall is like family you feel included and home. Everyone is well educated in the areas they’re assigned. The clinic flows. I’m still working with the clinic currently to complete to process.
