This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.
I didn't always understand his [Dr. Garza] treatment plan nor could I get an explanation on specifics of my treatment plan. Felt rushed during visits. ... he tested my AMH and knew it was low, but he never really addressed it much or explained how much it is likely affecting my struggle to get pregnant. He also said I would start IUI almost immediately after work-up, but never did.
Lack of and/or delay of treatment for unknown reasons for 3 cycles. ... The billing/insurance [Advanced Fertility] girl refused to send certain days of office records/visits/notes to my insurance because she said "They won't cover it," ... My insurance did cover part of some visits. ... Staff booked my appointment earlier than dr in office, had me see nurse only, still charge same as if saw dr, then would not have dr answer question regarding med unless I made another appointment to ask 1 question about med.
How was your experience with Joseph Garza (deceased) at The Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio (closed)?
Poor communication. I almost always left the office with more questions than answers. Flat affect. I never got the impression he really cared for me as a patient, except the day I was crying in the office. Visits felt rushed. He did a big work-up to diagnose me, but missed a HUGE part of my fertility issues, which is my low AMH. Let me clarify: he tested my AMH and knew it was low, but he never really addressed it much or explained how much it is likely affecting my struggle to get pregnant. He also said I would start IUI almost immediately after work-up, but never did. I felt like he was stringing me along for as many visits as possible. All I ever did was 4 rounds of oral pills, that is all. Then got cysts and had to stop fertility meds. I know this is a possible side effect, but prior to cysts could have done IUI and he wouldn't; he just kept saying "next time." I had already done 3 rounds of oral pills for fertility (by my regular ObGyn) prior to coming to him. Other than the work-up, I feel like I lost time and wasted time here that I cannot get back, not to mention thousands of dollars.

Didn't even get to see him my last visit. He has a pretty flat affect overall with a few jokes to tell. Never asked how I was doing except for once, when I was crying in his office. I didn't always understand his treatment plan nor could I get an explanation on specifics of my treatment plan. Felt rushed during visits. Had to do very frequent urine pregnancy tests, even when not indicated or required- this felt like I was getting nickeled and dimed on top of paying out-of-pocket for visits. I truly felt like cattle in a herd and not a real person with infertility issues.
Describe the protocols Joseph Garza (deceased) used in your cycles at The Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio (closed) and their degree of success.
Femara (oral pills). That is all. He kept saying he would do IUI next cycle (x3) but never did. He did say he wanted my progesterone higher, like 15 or more, but I was never low. He also said he would supplement me if needed, but never did even when I wasn't where he wanted me to be. He said they would supplement me once a positive pregnancy test and low. Why wait until then to see if low? Contradicting. I ended up with cysts after 4 cycles of oral meds only then had to be treated for those.
Describe your experience with your nurse at The Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio (closed). (Assigned nurse: Priscilla)
Poor communication with all office staff. I usually felt like a burden and rushed. If I asked more than a few questions they acted like I was inconveniencing them. Frequently communication took multiple attempts on my end to reach someone. Only time I truly felt like they cared was the day I was crying in the office and the nurse asked how I was and gave me card for a counselor, but never asked again. My last visit- I didn't even get to see the dr, only saw a nurse, but still charged the same amount of money and was not able to get my question answered by him after the visit unless I made another appointment with him. The question was regarding a med to treat the cysts and whether the med was safe for me to take with my diagnosis of clotting disorders. I had to play phone tag and patient portal messenger for 4 days to get a response and when I did the response was, "All meds have side effects" when I questioned the med label that warned stroke or death if I took the med with a known clotting disorder. That was my last straw and I never returned.

Nice big waiting room with coffee and water- and you will need it, because you will frequently have long waits. Poor communication throughout entire office. Patient portal is nice and convenient tool. Be prepared to give urine every single visit, regardless of home test negative or what the visit is even about- and don't question it unless you want dirty looks. The billing/insurance girl refused to send certain days of office records/visits/notes to my insurance because she said "They won't cover it," even at my request knowing it MAY be denied, but I wanted to try. My insurance did cover part of some visits. They also didn't send my records to insurance for my cyst visits, which should be covered. I had to call for over a month for them to be sent. I would only recommend this office as a last resort :(

Multiple things, see previous comments on strengths and weaknesses. Poor communication, felt rushed, refusal to send records to insurance, frequently did not answer questions in office or by patient portal messages or voicemail. Staff booked my appointment earlier than dr in office, had me see nurse only, still charge same as if saw dr, then would not have dr answer question regarding med unless I made another appointment to ask 1 question about med. Lack of and/or delay of treatment for unknown reasons for 3 cycles. Did not relay importance of critical test result, nor ever treat for such.
I felt like a human because Dr Garza sat down and listened to my concerns and answered my questions thoroughly. ... Dr Garza is an intelligent physician with years of experience in RE. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and answer them to the best of his ability. He has a great way of making the situation as comfortable as possible, light-hearted, and has a great sense of humor. At times, he does seem a little rushed, but as a person who also works in medicine, I know where he is coming from.

Dr Garza put me on Clomid days 5-10 for the first cycle to induce ovulation and instructed us to have timed intercourse during our ovulation week. The result was that the medication made me ovulate, but in the end we received a negative pregnancy test. I am currently on my second round of Clomid, cycle day 8 and will be taking my fourth day of Clomid today. Will have an IUI this coming week with Ovidrel as a trigger shot before the procedure.

I've talked to the officer manager more than anyone else... I very rarely see the doctor [Dr. Joseph Garza]. Ive also stated several times the hcg shot they've administered isn't working properly. And it didn't 1 month, because I had 2 cysts from the previous months follicles. But they were trying to move me on to injectables. Not happy about this...First treatment was clomid with hcg and iui. I was very hopeful but it didn't pan out. Next few cycles we tried clomid with hcg and relations.
Some days they [nurses at The Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio] are pre-occupied, other days they are very supportive and understanding...I'm okay with paying the money for my services but I feel I should have better communication with the doctor. If I'm telling you the trigger shot isn't working, you should take this into consideration and look further into this... I very rarely see the doctor.

I suffer with endometriosis, low ovarian reserve and annovulation. I also had exploratory surgery because I had a several tumors that I carried for years. I have had one successful birth but this was over 20 yeas ago. I'm coming close to the age where I cant have children so I'm ready to do this. Also, I just found out this doctors ivf is so much more than other doctors. I recently also learned that there are other options for ivf not just the standard procedure. I've heard about the invocell. Thought this might be something to look into

Dr Garza has been doing this a long time. It shows in his knowledge. He can sometimes be soft spoken but always makes me feel comfortable. What I like best is his willingness to try the next thing when I didn't respond to treatments....
I did 3 rounds of clomid. The first round I missed my progresterone test to tell if I ovulated. When I went in they did an ultrasound and found a few cysts. They recommended a month of birth control to clear the cysts. The next month I had to redo the loswest dosage of clomid Because it hadn't been confirmed with the day 21 test that I had ovulated. I got a 7.5 on my progresterone test that month. I was told it was ovulation but they wanted to see stronger number. They doubled the dosage (100mg) but my test showed a 0so absolutely no ovulation. My scan showed a very large (7cm) cyst on my left ovary and they became more concerned about a smallish fibroid on my uterus. Again another month of birth control and awaiting laparoscopic surgery to remove the problems and give a better idea of the next steps.
The whole nursing staff [at The Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio] is awesome. They are understanding and helpful. They don't do unnecessary treatments and are helpful when it comes to financial situations.... Everyone in the clinic seemed to remember you from visit to visit. They remembered details not pertaining to treatment and always answer any questions I have...and it's a lot!

Overall, Dr. Garza has been amazing! Always bring prepared questions with you to the appointments so you don't forget anything. You will probably only see him about once a month in the beginning and he explains things way better than the nurses. Your experience could be different depending on your course of treatment.

Before coming to Dr. Garza I had gone through 2 miscarriages and my OBGYN did not have an explanation. I was already 35 and knew a friend who had success with Dr. Garza. He started off with lots of blood work, for both me and my husband, and tests just to see if everything was okay with us and what he was dealing with. I was diagnosed a month ago with PCOD which is apparently just like PCOS. Two months ago I was given Clomid to raise my Progesterone levels and this past month was Metformin and Clomid. The hormones have affected me some and the Metfomin makes me sick to my stomach and dizzy. I'm supposed to take 2000mg of Metformin a day but I've only been able to work up to 1500mg so far. He advised me to start using an ovulation kit even though ovulation kits say that they don't work for people with PCOS. So after two months of trying we are about to start another month with no luck but I know my body has to adjust to the medication.. Right now I'm scared I won't be able to conceive without using more expensive treatments.

The nurses prefer to have all patients use the "patient portal" to communicate and get results. The problem is that they take a really long time to enter test results, medication that has been called in, and to answer questions. The receptionist will urge you to use the portal first before letting you speak to a nurse. Your cycle is so time sensitive and the nurses get to you when they can I suppose. It can be very frustrating. If you have an appointment and have to see a nurse they are not good at explaining things and expect you to know everything they know. They have gotten frustrated with my persistence to have things explained but if you are paying them this much money you expect answers. I have left the nurses frustrated and in tears.

I know blood work results should be in within 24 hours but since they have to enter the information into each patients "portal" it takes about a week to get results. I would just advise you to be persistent about getting the information you need.
Dr Garza was very nice and experienced. He might not have been as forthcoming as I would have liked. He told me wrong results one time but he made me feel comfortable most of the time. He should have canceled my cycle but didn’t so we got poor results. He does a lot of surgeries or procedures on patients. He was good at answering questions.... My first IUI has nothing but clomid. I had too many follicles so we cancelled cycle, cut it in half, then did the next cycle.
Dr Garza was good but the nursing staff [Advanced Fertility of Center of San Antonio] was terrible. As a patient, you need a warm environment who welcome questions.... One nurse, Cristina, was great. My next iui cycle was with clomid and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. The third iui resulted in no pregnancy. My Ivf we used bravelle and menopur. I wasn’t responding to the meds so the cycle should have been cancelled. It wasn’t so we only got 4 eggs and two bad quality embryos.

Constantly present for your treatment and excellent bedside manner! Love the way he [Dr. Garza] explains everything to you in detail and will fun and funny jokes! Participates in all aspect of the procedure and care! I would recommend to anyone!... Used a artificial FET and a artificial with cetrotide FET to increase my chances the second transfer. Waited about 2 months after retrieval for first FET
They [Advanced Fertility Ctr] planned everything around my demanding work schedule, that helped me communicate better with both side to make sure everything stayed on target and track for the retrieval or transfer! I appreciate their flexible and weekend hours once you are already going through IVF treatment... We had an early appointment each day scheduled and it was quick, in and out. When my husband was very skeptical about I've, he came in and sat with him and answered allof his questions and reassure ld him regarding the procedure. He was honest about the statistics regarding ivf.... He recommended ivf with clomid 50mg after an unsuccessful round of clomid with relations. It was unsuccessful, but I did produce two large follicles, which was promising. The next recommendation was IUI with injectables, which was 3,000, and out of our budget.
The clinic [Advanced Fert Ctr] overall is normally very nice and helpful. The sonographer, Veronica was always very sweet and encouraging!... The iui bundle with clomid was 1100 including costs of ultrasounds and associated labs.... Many of the nurses were very nice, sympathetic to my situation, and were able to answer some of my questions. Every once and awhile, I felt like I was just a number with them, but my experiences were mostly good ones overall.

dr. garza was very thorough and explained everything to me in detail. never seemed rushed, had a sense of humor. Always gave me benefit of the doubt and made sure I was always ok. Dr. Garza was very sensitive when it came to letting me know the side effects or risks...suggested we do one embryo but we decided on 2. He said they were good quality eggs but we just wanted to make sure at least one stuck.
Advanced Fertility if very organized, clean, pretty quiet. Sometimes its very busy but they don't rush you. They are very friendly and care for their patients. I enjoy their office just wish they would have more comfortable chairs...they always referred to me by my first name not last name and always friendly and laughed with me...All the nurses were very organized. During the time of my IVF journey I was in and out of my 7am appt in 30 mins. They were always well prepared, fast and efficient. I came to know everyone really well.

Sense of humor. Other than that, hardly talked to him [Dr. Joseph Garza]. I didn't like the way he joked, like "Are you sure you want kids? They are a handful!" That was a very WRONG thing to say to me. I'm already vulnerable and you joke like that? Very long wait for each visit. The nurses seemed to take care of my treatment instead of him. Office was very bad at communicating.
I had to postpone my IUI procedure because they [Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio] failed to communicate my spouse was lacking bloodwork they forgot to ask for. I ended up leaving that clinic after that.... i had so much treatment done before any answers were given. I had months and months of hormone pills and injections without a complete bloodwork or diagnosis.

Dr.Joseph Garza said he would only implant 2-3 embryos at most per cycle due to high possibility of multiples...took the time to get to know our situation and has been honest with us from the beginning. He has compassion for me & has been trying to help us conceive...always asks about what’s going on in our lives not just about treatments...He’s not only an amazing & caring physician he’s like a friend of ours...
The clinic [The Advanced Fertility Center of San Antonio] is always clean & feels inviting. Nurses explain thoroughly every detail of each process. We also never wait too long in waiting room to be seen. Everything is there in the office like bloodwork, semen analysis, sonograms etc...We have done many treatments with clomid & ttc naturally in the beginning but Dr. Joseph Garza learned then that I don’t produce the chemical to pop the follicles in order to release the eggs. They turned into cysts & that’s when he realized I needed Ovidrel every cycle in order to be successful in conceiving.
