Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

[Dr. Fritz] put everything in terms that we could understand, and didn't make light of our stressful situation...went with multiple embryo transfer instead of a single embryo transfer...will do all he can to help you through, answer questions, and put you at ease, no matter your age, race, or sexual preferences...We felt very comfortable talking to him and asking him questions.
The staff [at UNC Fertility] is friendly and helpful...good job putting me at ease about giving myself injections...when I had another idea about injections, [the nurse] gave me her input, referenced a video, but allowed me to do what I thought was best for me...$11,650 for procedure up front for procedure(monitoring, transfer, level checks, +200 for initial/post consultations) $3,600 for meds
How was your experience with Marc Fritz (retired) at UNC Fertility?
Dr. Fritz was awesome! We felt very comfortable talking to him and asking him questions. He put everything in terms that we could understand, and didn't make light of our stressful situation, although realizing that this is a time that we should always be excited and hopeful for. I'm glad he was able to not be too serious and crack a joke or two; laughter is still important during this journey.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Marc Fritz (retired) at UNC Fertility?
My one piece of advice is to just be prepared. This isn't an easy journey but Dr. Fritz will do all he can to help you through, answer questions, and put you at ease, no matter your age, race, or sexual preferences.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Marc Fritz (retired) at UNC Fertility?
I loved the day Dr Fritz was running behind and he came out and told us personally. He didn't just expect us to understand, and he didn't have anyone else tell us. That meant a lot to us.
Describe the protocols Marc Fritz (retired) used in your cycles at UNC Fertility and their degree of success.
During my treatment, we started with birth control to control my cycle, then onto MenoPur and Gonal shots for a few days. During this time I was traveling back to the clinic every other day to have my levels checked. After a week or two my levels were where they needed to be and my final trigger shot was given.
Describe your experience with your nurse at UNC Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Wendy Snyder)
Wendy was awesome from the first email I received! She was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. She did a good job putting me at ease about giving myself injections. Even when I had another idea about injections, she gave me her input, referenced a video, but allowed me to do what I thought was best for me.
Describe your experience with UNC Fertility.
This clinic is setup wonderfully. There's coffee, tea, and water available while you wait. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only thing I didn't like about the the clinic though is that if you have a Saturday check-up, you have to dial a number on the door to get access to get into the building, since this office is an office suite inside of a bigger building.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Marc Fritz (retired) at UNC Fertility.
$11,650 for procedure up front for procedure(monitoring, transfer, level checks, +200 for initial/post consultations) $3,600 for meds
Describe Marc Fritz (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at UNC Fertility.
I loved that Dr. Fritz went with multiple embryo transfer instead of a single embryo transfer. Although I was close to 40, I felt like that was the best thing for me.

[Dr. Marc Fritz] only want to do one embryo transfer always...We used 350 uni of Gonal during our treatment in combination of Menopur and at the end we used the trigger infections (don’t remember the name) regardless that all my test are good with a good reserve of eggs, we only finish with 2 embryos, and we could froze only 1 and we are waiting to do the transfer
Very profesional clinic [UNC Fertility] but you always are one more number, but the doctors a nurses are very profesional they know what they are doing, the clinic es super clean and organized so in that part is very well done...Everyone was very friendly and profesional but the should keep the patients more well inform of their process and results, it is a good clinic but the lack of information during and after the process is a bit confusing

She [Dr. Jennifer Mersereau] was helpful and understanding. I thought I would see her more times than I did but I felt in good care at each visit...IUI first (four of them) and then if we were ready, IVF. I was rx Femara while going through IUI and then had to go onto BC for almost a month to prep for egg retrieval. We were unexplained so if we had wanted to continue trying to conceive naturally she did not not support those efforts. We decided we were ready after one year...She would answer my questions and made me feel like she had time to address my concerns...Due to my age we transferred Singleton in hopes of achieving one healthy pregnancy and birth.
[UNC Fertility is] fine. It’s the insurance or lack thereof that is troublesome. The facility is clean and one of the best...[nurses were] Very responsive via email and phone...I had to pay almost 2k to begin to the clinic. This is with insurance. Then still with insurance I paid nearly 2k for meds. The rest was about 2k for the process itself...IUI first (four of them) and then if we were ready, IVF. How was your experience with Jennifer Mersereau at UNC Fertility?
Unfortunately there are just so many unknowns. And the Dr does not have a crystal ball. If she were accurate on everything which is nearly impossible I would have given her a ten. She was helpful and understanding. I thought I would see her more times than I did but I felt in good care at each visit.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jennifer Mersereau at UNC Fertility?
As an IVF patient in general, please know that the process takes time, regardless of your doctor. It takes time, patience and lots of faith. It is simply hurry up and wait.

Dr. Mersereau keeps my husband and I informed and engaged. Her communication and interaction has been professional on a personal level. We’re very comfortable and trust her medical advices. After leaving every visit, we always leave with a plan. The experience has giving us hope in conceiving...went through the HGS procedure and very happy with my ovarian reserves. No blockages. The only thing left to do is the semen analysis for my husband, then on to the next steps.
The waiting room [at UNC Fertility] always seemed full and crowded. This is usually with early morning appointments. Scheduling appointments after 10AM works best. Overall, the wait before seeing the doctor is very minimal. The staff always keeps you informed and progressing during the visit...All of the staff were readily available to assist. Very welcoming

She [Dr. Mersereau] is a great communicator. She answers medical questions very well. She tries hard to keep you on the least invasive track as possible. She is thorough on her initial workup. She rushes through appointments. She doesn't follow up well on test results, leaving you to figure out what they mean. When I did end up pregnant she seemed unexcited, and telling her it ended in miscarriage phased her even less.
The support staff [at UNC Fertility] is great with communication. Getting an appointment can be difficult if you are looking for a specific day or time. They draw all of their own labs so you do not have to travel to another location...On my initial visit I had a ton of labs drawn. Once they all resulted i got an email that they were in my portal so I went and looked at them. On the reports there were no explanations and no one called me to tell me about my results I had to figure them out on my own.

Be ready with questions, don't let her make you feel rushed.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jennifer Mersereau at UNC Fertility?
Dr. M on consultation was warm, inviting, and thorough. She explained everything to us and ordered so many tests. Once the tests came back, however, I was left to figure out what they meant on my own. Same thing happened with my husband's sperm analysis. We ended up pregnant on our last round of letrozole and when I messaged her to tell her the news she was not excited she had me call to get an HCG check. Once the HCG was completed we went in for an ultrasound, she was extremely cold, there was no smile, no sincere congratulations just a "yup there's a baby, there's the sac, you can go to your regular doctor now" and she just left the room. We found out a few weeks later that we had a missed miscarriage we sent a message letting her know and she just said "that stinks, let me know when you have a period again" no mention of what the plan might be next.
Describe the protocols Jennifer Mersereau used in your cycles at UNC Fertility and their degree of success.
I came to the clinic already prescribed metformin and letrozole, we had already tried 3 rounds. She decided to extend that treatment plan for 6 more cycles. We did end up pregnant but it ended in miscarriage
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at UNC Fertility.
All the staff I came in contact with were super helpful, compassionate and caring. I didn't see many nurses only people drawing labs

The support staff is great with communication. Getting an appointment can be difficult if you are looking for a specific day or time. They draw all of their own labs so you do not have to travel to another location.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at UNC Fertility.
On my initial visit I had a ton of labs drawn. Once they all resulted i got an email that they were in my portal so I went and looked at them. On the reports there were no explanations and no one called me to tell me about my results I had to figure them out on my own.

I began seeing Dr. Peavey after having 2 chemical pregnancies in row. Besides all the "routine" fertility testing for my husband and I (thyroid, autoimmune, HSG, semen analysis, genetics, etc.), Dr. Peavey was also supportive and knowledgeable of several natural supplements I wanted to take. She was open to ordering any additional tests I wanted -- such as for Vitamin D deficiency and AMH/FSH -- even when she was confident those weren't my issues. Dr. Peavey and the entire clinic staff were kind and respectful even through my 3rd loss and understood when we wanted to take some time off. I never felt pressured or not listened to. Dr. Peavey made a point to sit down and answer all my questions in a non-hurried manner. She explained things as many times as I needed and dr
Strengths [at UNC Fertility]: Variety of REs so one is bound to fit the patient's needs and personality. All doctors and staff I interacted with were optimistic and friendly which goes a long way. Weaknesses: I can't think of any. My experience there was completely positive...I only interacted with the nursing staff via the patient portal but every time I asked a question, I received an immediate or at least same-day response...I requested a Vitamin D and AMH blood test. The order was put in for AMH but Vitamin D was forgotten. So I had to have a second blood draw on another day to have my Vitamin D checked. I was not charged, of course, for the extra blood draw.

Dr. Peavey made a point to sit down and answer all my questions in a non-hurried manner. She explained things as many times as I needed and drew diagrams to help us understand all the answers. After we decided to take a break from medications, we became pregnant naturally. Dr. Peavey was positive and excited for me even when I could not yet be excited for myself due to fear of another loss.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Mary Peavey at UNC Fertility?

Describe the protocols Mary Peavey used in your cycles at UNC Fertility and their degree of success.
We had no measurable explanation for our failed pregnancies (3 chemicals in March, April and May 2019) besides poorer egg quality due to diminished reserve. So our prescribed plan for the time being was to keep trying for a few more months and then reevaluate. My husband and I both took natural supplements that I'd read about in It Starts With The Egg. I was also taking 5 mg letrozole (original OB's suggestion) and 200 mg progesterone (at my request) daily. I took the supplements from March 2019 to Nov 2019. I took the medications March, April, May, August and Sept. In Oct, I added a royal jelly supplement and stopped the prescribed medications. On Nov 2, I received a positive test that stuck.

My costs were all covered by insurance. The only things we paid for were the HSG and SA (semen analysis). Neither was over $150.

Dr. Peavey spoke to me by name through both the patient portal and in person. She remembered my husband, the duration we were together, etc...was very clear- spoke through drawing images, speaking thoroughly, and also through asking questions. I believe this helps her with all different types of patients. She was very encouraging and positive but realistic too. I never felt like I was doing a test that wasn't necessary. Overall, 10 out of 10!
everything was clean and quick [at UNC Fertility]! when i walked in i didn't know what to expect and was nervous...i never sat in the lobby waiting for more than 5-7 minutes which i thought was incredible. the entire floor was clean and neat. the nurses was approachable and friendly- always asked how my day was and engaged...Everyone was great!...
