10
Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

She [Dr. Helen Kim] was always willing to collaborate on action plan when I needed more information. She was willing to consult with other doctors, and was supportive of myself and my husband... was thorough and kind. She explored all avenues regarding why I might not be getting pregnant, but always kept us moving forward. I felt informed and was a participant in my care. She called me back on the same day whenever I called with a question.
Monitoring [at University of Chicago Hospitals] was first come first serve. The longest I ever waited was 30 minutes but that was rare. I generally waited less than 15...I did PGS testing and frozen transfers and therefore she [Dr. Kim] only wanted to implant one embyro which I was fine with...Their strength is that as a small practice they can give wonderful personalized care. It can be hard to get an initial appointment but once you are working with them they are extremely helpful with scheduling.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Helen Kim at University of Chicago Medicine?
It may take awhile to get in because they are a small practice, but it's worth the wait. Remember, one month is only one missed cycle. You will be glad you chose them.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Helen Kim at University of Chicago Medicine?
The people who work in the UCM fertility office are the kindest, most caring group of health professionals. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking treatment in Chicago.
Describe the protocols Helen Kim used in your cycles at University of Chicago Medicine and their degree of success.
She is analytical and conservative. She looks at all the data before coming up with a plan. She does not take a one size fits all approach.
Describe your experience with your nurse at University of Chicago Medicine. (Assigned nurse: Gayle)
The team overall is extremely compassionate and responsive. I could always count on a prompt reply to a telephone or MyChart inquiry.

Dr Adeleye at University of Chicago is amazing!!!!! Knows every detail about me, my spouse and my history. It's like she is not just my doctor but my friend and cheerleader in this process. Definitely personalized medicine and nothing cookie cutter about her approach...She involves me in every step of the process. She is meticulous in her use of evidence based care and even shares articles with us about different therapies or next steps.
This clinic [University of Chicago Medicine] is run by doctors, not nurses. You talk to your doctor, you meet with your doctor and they guide the personalized plan. Being a smaller clinic has great benefits to the University of Chicago REI clinic in that they can take the time to know their patients and avoid the "machine-like" feeling at other clinics....
How was your experience with Amanda Adeleye at University of Chicago Medicine?
Personally, without her support and sincerity and caring nature, I would have not proceeded with further fertility treatments. I'm not just a number to her or anyone at her clinic. She calls to check up even if she didn't do a procedure or to discuss test results and genuinely cares
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Adeleye at University of Chicago Medicine?
Enjoy your time with her! She is a rare find in the world of infertilty.

They have the most cost effective self-pay cycles in Chicago. One cycle was not covered by insurance and it was very reasonable.

Dr.Beltsos takes time to know her patients. She responds personally to emergency calls. And she starts every appointment by giving you a big hug. She is so energetic and enthusiastic. ... Dr.Beltsos is happy to adjust protocols as needed and she works with you to make this challenging journey a bit more manageable. Strengths- patient care! You are a valued patient and the staff does whatever they can to make your treatment easy. I feel confident with Vios in charge of my care. Weaknesses- billing department. Some out of pocket prices are questionable, also, advisors may tell you insurance covers a test- when in fact it does not. Be your own financial advocate. ... They [nurses] are wonderful! I definitely have a few favorites!! But overall, all nurses are there to help.

We've met with Dr. Kim twice in the very short time we have been seeing her. When we first met with her she spent almost two hours reviewing all of our results. She is very investigative as my husband's described. We have been given no real reasons for our infertility or two miscarriages and she seems like she is willing to do the work to find out why and to get us pregnant...I don't get the feeling she will sugar coat bad news so if you want the information in a very straightforward way then you will get it. If not, be ready for it...
You see the same people every time (for blood and ultrasound) [at U Chicago -MD Ave]. Dr. Kim has also performed the IUI (when it was a holiday weekend)...Results are provided electronically via MyChart. I've spoken to the nurse when I had questions about the results and she was somewhat helpful...
How was your experience with Helen Kim at University of Chicago Medicine?
Dr. Kim is willing to sit down with you and have a conversation and review all past results and clearly explain your options. So far, we really like her.

Since Letrazole plus IUI did get my pregnant previously with our first doctor and there was no reason discovered for my miscarriage she thought starting with that again made sense before graduating to IVF. First cycle, we moved forward with Letrazole plus IUI. We did not get pregnant. Second cycle, we did Letrazole plus an IUI. My lining was questionable so we also added Estrace before the IUI. Mid cycle now.

She was very informative, my partner and I had questions and she answered them all with no issues. Overall it was pleasant and she helped to make us feel optimistic. We had travel plans and Dr. Kim also suggested potential risks and how to stay safe due to our attempt at conception ... I recall starting with at home insemination and then moving to medication and in-office iui after a suggested 3 cycles
They [UCH] are very good at compassion and setting a nice environment during a stressful time. No weaknesses. I wish that a baby resulted from working with them but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. No fault of the clinic. We will try again after this year and will be moving so it is a bit un nerving to have to start the process again without their support.

I do feel that Dr. Kim and her staff cared about the outcome of my treatment but not that they were prepared to treat me individually or look beyond the standard reasons for what might be going on. After two miscarriages, they basically told me there wasn't anything else they could do for me and I should consult another doctor.

My husband, myself, and a trusted relative (in the medical field) were all present during the consultation and he [Dr. Haney] took the time to make sure all our questions were answered...was very upfront about what to expect, the process, and the outcome. He delivered exactly what he said he would with a pre-pregnancy TAC surgery to prepare for the next fertility treatment cycle. He did all of this with a supportive bedside manner...The TAC can be completed [by Dr. Arthur Haney] pre-pregnancy or during pregnancy though it was recommended pre-pregnancy if possible (which was our preference anyway). The data on TAC for incompetent cervix has better outcomes than a preventive vaginal cerclage.
I was able to get insurance coverage for my surgery after appealing with UHC. I had to follow-up after surgery as well though it was covered in the end...was professional and the setting was positive for recovery. It was a comfortable waiting area with a great view and amazing food for a hospital stay! The typical stay for the surgery is 23 hours, the remainder of the recuperation is at home...The TAC can be completed pre-pregnancy or during pregnancy though it was recommended pre-pregnancy if possible (which was our preference anyway). She [Dr. Kim] made sure she talked in a nice respectful manner and made me feel like a daughter...She’s a loving doctor that’s there for your every need I came in not understanding and left feeling like nothing could stop me she explained what I needed to do even if I didn’t have the insurance. [Dr. Zamah] explained everything very thoroughly and answered all of our questions. He also has a great sense of humor! But very hard to get in to see...It was also extra hard to have to wait for the next steps given my likely biggest issue was my age...We did PGS testing, so only transferred 1 genetically euploid embryo..
[U of Chicago Medicine] Good location with validated parking (in South Loop).the MA is awesome, very caring. There is a billing representative that can be helpful (other times I did not find her terribly helpful). Easy to get in touch with nurses, not so easy to get in touch with MD. Long wait times for procedures, but once it treatment, very responsive and had a great experience...typically heard back via MyChart before I heard back via phone call
How was your experience with Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine?
Dr. Zamah is a genius! Truly wonderful to work with. He explained everything very thoroughly and answered all of our questions. He also has a great sense of humor! But very hard to get in to see.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine?
Be prepared to wait longer than you'd expect to get on the schedule. Or if time is of the essence, see if you can get in sooner with a different MD.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine?
I had to wait a lot longer than I expected to get an appt, start my treatments/retrieval/transfer (tried to schedule in November, first avail appt for consultation was in January, then did back to back IUIs March, April, May (all negative preg tests), but then had to wait until OCTOBER for egg retrieval and then January of the next year for transfer. So all in all over 1 year. When I was actively undergoing treatment I felt very well taken care of and the staff were very easy to reach and responsive! Dr. Zamah is truly a genius - just had to be very very patient. It was also extra hard to have to wait for the next steps given my likely biggest issue was my age. Felt a little like twisting the knife a bit!
Describe the protocols Musa Zamah used in your cycles at University of Chicago Medicine and their degree of success.
antag start dose 150/150. Split ICSI. PGT-A freeze all. lupron trigger option.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at University of Chicago Medicine.
They are so easy to reach via MyChart - very responsive! I did have a little trouble getting in touch via phone call (you need to leave a message with the front desk and wait for call back) - typically heard back via MyChart before I heard back via phone call

Describe the costs associated with your care under Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine.
Around $10,000 including copays for ultrasounds, labs, procedures, and all parts that were not authorized by insurance: ICSI - approximately $3000 payable to our office. Storage - although it is authorized, the fee is payable to an outside lab who will request payment ($675) and will give you a form to file with insurance for reimbursement. I understand the reimbursement will be approximately $200. Embryo biopsy - $2200 payable to our office prior to the egg retrieval. PGT testing - $900 for the first 4 embryos and $200 for each additional embryo payable to the testing lab
Describe Musa Zamah's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at University of Chicago Medicine.
We did PGS testing, so only transferred 1 genetically euploid embryo

Dr. Zamah is empathetic, explains things thoroughly and in detail but takes his time to explain things in a way that helps us understand things...was warm, made us laugh, yet was asking us all the right questions...We were never rushed...Dr. Zamah himself is a diamond
[University of Chicago Medicine] team is also outstanding. The receptionist, to the nurses, to the medical assistants all made this harrowing and uncertain experience something to look forward to...I will sorely miss seeing everyone and interacting with everyone once we graduate
How was your experience with Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine?
I don't know where to begin. As a fertility patient, you go into the process fully knowing that this will be a journey, and boy mine was definitely quite the journey. UChicago REI and Dr. Zamah was my third clinic and doctor. I have had not-so-pleasant experiences at two other clinics (I will not name them here), and this was going to be my third shot. From the moment I answered the pre-screening/triage call before our first consult with Dr. Zamah, the energy was wonderful as the person on the other side was warm, made us laugh, yet was asking us all the right questions. Dr. Zamah himself is a diamond. He is by far the best provider I have ever been fortunate enough to know. He spends his time with you with every virtual follow-up call, explains things incredibly thoroughly and makes sure that we understand everything he said. We were never rushed. His team is also outstanding. The receptionist, to the nurses, to the medical assistants all made this harrowing and uncertain experience something to look forward to. I hate to say this, but while I cannot wait to be done with this IVF process, I will sorely miss seeing everyone and interacting with everyone once we graduate. Please believe all of the amazing and outstanding reviews of him and his team.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine?
Please know that it can take a few months to get an appointment with him. He's very busy (and in demand), so if you are curious about him or want to get in with him and his team, consider making a consult ASAP. Otherwise, the process goes quickly after your initial consult/meeting.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine?
From the moment I was triaged for our virtual consultation, through our egg retrieval, follow up visits, lab work, and transfer, I have never exprienced patient-forward care and empathy as I have at this clinic, and with Dr. Zamah. Dr. Zamah is empathetic, explains things thoroughly and in detail but takes his time to explain things in a way that helps us understand things. He also took his time with us when we would meet and this is my third clinic, third doctor. He and his team are by far the BEST.
Describe your experience with University of Chicago Medicine.
The Clinic's Strengths: - Empathy - Compassion - Ability to pivot and change course if need be. - Ability to get you in quickly and efficiently for Lab/Ultrasound. Appointments were made by my nurse via MyChart and she was veyr response. I didn't have to do any of it myself. This was a first for me after undergoing 2 other clinics. - Location!!! This clinic is conveniently located in the South Loop in a plaza near Whole Foods, LA FItness, and other stores. They have a parking garage where your ticket will be validated at no cost if you are there for under 2 hours! Going in and out is easy. Weaknesses: As mentioned earlier, it can take a few months to see Dr. Zamah for consults depending on how busy he is. But they are WORTH THE WAIT.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Musa Zamah at University of Chicago Medicine.
We were lucky to have good insurance that covered our IVF 100% when we hit our deductible (including meds). However we had to pay out of pocket for embryo testing/freezing/storage which I cannot recall how much, but I want to say maybe $5,000 depending on the number of embryos that need to be tested and stored?

Dr. Cooper immediately is a warm, loving, compassionate and kind presence. She is thourough and informative without being aggressive and harsh. I never once felt like I was being rushed through my many questions. I always felt like the most important patient she had at that moment. Our experience couldn’t have been more pleasant. She’s an amazing person and doctor. I wish all physicians were as wonderful as Dr. Cooper.
The office [Univ of Chicago- Desplaines] is comfortable. They always offered a beverage upon arrival. The front desk staff is organized and kind. Even when there was confusion with insurance or my payment plan they were patient and did ALL the work to resolve. Theres a really wonderful energy in the office.... Andrea was always available. She was prompt in returning my calls and when I was confused or scared she was kind and understanding. She always explained things well and went over the treatment plans on several occasions to confirm my understanding.
