Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

Because Dr Sharara [at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] is no nonsense you must show up to appointments on time with all of your information, questions, etc. ready to go. There was minimal wait time so as soon as you walked in the door it was go time. Perfect for me but others might feel like they are being rushed which is not really the case...His costs were a little higher than the large group we ha seen previously but were in-line with what we found to be local rates in our area.

I was seen by Dr. Sharara every visit...is knowledgeable, direct and compassionate. He took the time on the front end to understand what are issues were and came up with a game plan to address them. As we discovered new issues, he adjusted the plan. His thoroughness is unmatched and I truly believe that we would not have gotten pregnant without his expertise...IVF resulting in one live birth...
Jo [nurse at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] was like a mother to me during this process. Her compassion was incredible and she went above and beyond when it came to making sure that I had what I needed both physically and emotionally to be prepared for our treatment. I cannot thank her enough...The team is friendly, responsive, attentive and most importantly values your time. You will be pleased with your experience. How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
After being turned down by several clinics for even a consultative appointment, (each refused us due to our age) we managed to get in to see Dr. Fady Sharara. He was very straight-forward and answered all our questions. He explained pros and cons involved in the process and encouraged us to get started on our road to becoming parents. It took a few attempts with an egg donor and a surrogate but we are well on our way to having a baby girl due late this summer. Dr. Sharara has a very positive attitude and performs extra tests to make sure there will be a positive outcome. We are happy patients looking forward to being happy parents.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Come prepared to ask your questions, you will get answers and options for the course forward.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Sharara was the only physician who would agree to see us and help us on our journey to being parents
Describe the protocols Fady Sharara used in your cycles at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
Other clinics refused to even consult with us because of our age. Dr. Sharara agreed to see us and explained the pros and cons of using my husband's sperm and an egg donor and a gestational surrogate. He also encouraged us to get started because of our age and told us to maintain our healthy lifestyle to be able to take care of the coming child. We had a few setbacks, we lost one surrogate because her husband thought she would lose her job. We had a low number of embryos in the first two cycles with an egg donor but we have since been successful with a second egg donor and second gestational surrogate. Dr. Sharara performed cycle testing to to get the timing right for our gestational surrogate and found that he had to shift her administration of her medication by 12 hours which did the trick and now we are awaiting our daughter.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine. (Assigned nurse: Jessica)
Everyone greeted us warmly when we arrived at the clinic. Jessica was always very caring in the way that she relayed news to us....unfortunately it was not always good news but she was always professional and relayed the next steps to us.
Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
VCRM is willing to work with other sources of egg donors in addition to the young women that they have as anonymous donors. The IVF process is explained every step of the way if that is what is needed for your infertility. Genetic testing is recommended for sperm donor, egg donor, and the embryos produced and cryogenic storage is right there.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
We did not have any insurance coverage for our infertility from our provider so we had to pay all our own costs. Dr. Sharara has paperwork for the packages of services he offers. We needed an egg donor and a gestational surrogate. He had the costs associated with his examining and approving the surrogate and the cycle monitoring and compensation of the egg donor along with embryo transfers. What he could not include was costs of medications since he did not provide those and any extra testing that may be required to ensure the best outcome since those vary by the patient. He also had a one time transfer price and a multiple transfer until pregnancy price. The difference was small but well worth the difference to make sure of multiple tries which we ended up needing. Since we paid for services back in 2020, you would need to call to get a general price now.
Describe Fady Sharara's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Sharara prefers to monitor the surrogate's body processes and transfer one embryo. This obviates the need to remove an embryo if you want only one child or if the surrogate only agrees to carry one child.

Dr. Sharara was kind and I really appreciated his sense of humor. I felt very safe in his care. He is super methodical and performs a lot of testing before deciding on the right fertility treatment for you. Through testing we find a uterine polyp. Once this was removed I was cleared for my first iui, which was successful...He is very methodical and there was a lot of testing
The rest of his team [at Virginia Center for RM] were also great-- I was able to call and get advice any time I needed from the nursing staff, and front office was so prompt with answering questions, rescheduling appointments, forwarding my records to my OB, anything I needed! Also, I don't think I ever waited more than 3 minutes when arriving for an appointment...Nursing staff were always available by phone with no wait time. I had a lot of questions-- about donor sperm vial types, medications, and how to manage morning sickness to name a few. It was comforting to know I had the team on call in between appointments.

Uterine polyp removal and a month to recover. Tamoxifen to optimize egg quality prior to iui. progesterone suppositories after confirmed pregnancy because blood work revealed I was at the low end of the normal range for that hormone.

Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
I tried getting pregnant with donor sperm at home for about 8 months, and decided to find a fertility doctor when I turned 35. My wife and I found Dr. Sharara to be very kind and I immediately felt relieved, comfortable and confident that I could leave all my worries with him. He is very methodical and there was a lot of testing. Along the way we found a big polyp in my uterus that must of been a part of my problem, because to my surprise my first iui was successful! The rest of his team were also great-- I was able to call and get advice any time I needed from the nursing staff, and front office was so prompt with answering questions, rescheduling appointments, forwarding my records to my OB, anything I needed! Also, I don't think I ever waited more than 3 minutes when arriving for an appointment.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
The iui was a couple thousand I believe, hcg and other testing was also a couple thousand over the course of several months. With copay my office visits were only $60. You are give a print up with the cost of all tests to be performed beforehand, and fertility procedure costs are listed clearly on their website.

How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
He is intelligent, thoughtful and thorough. He grounds his work in the latest research and treats the complete person and COUPLE (not just the woman). This was a huge difference for us from our previous clinic. His approach is holistic and he works to solve problems. He conducts thorough research before getting started, and immediatly spotted I had inflamation and polyps in my uterus that could cause misscariage, something my first provider never even looked for. Throughout my treatment, he course corrected with a personalized approach to see I got the best quality and highest amount of eggs possible for us, that my husband was contributing his best quality, and that our lining was thick and ready to receive. He is devoted to his patients and is truly one of a kind in this field. He always made us feel comfortable and like family. We feel so lucky to have found him!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Listen to him and trust him. If you've been anywhere else his approach may feel different, but it's because he is creating a holistic, personalized approach that solves the problem from all angles. Know that everything he suggests is with the goal of helping you start a family!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Sharara and his team are wonderful. They treat everyone with empathy and compassion. Dr. Sharara is a problem solver and he treats each person individually and is determined to find the solution. After each test, retreival or implantation they provide detailed guidance, check on how you are feeling and and call with results with sensitivity. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted warmly and they know your name and you always see Dr. Sharara. It was a night and day difference from our first clinic experience.
Describe the protocols Fady Sharara used in your cycles at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
He gave us incredible counsel on how to improve our egg and sperm quality. We both took supplements, changed our behaviors, diet and I also took Metformin. During egg retreival, he adjusted treatment and provided detailed guidanced on timing and supplements to get the best results grounded in the latest research. After, he had detailed protocol to prevent OHSS (something i never received I my previous clinic and suffered from badly). For implantation, he suggested ERA before to be sure we saw the best results and provided tweaks to our treatment to see my lining was thick enough. He also adjusted amounts of progesterone and my thyroid medicine as I went, as he was particularly attentive to bloodwork.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine. (Assigned nurse: Jessica)
The entire team at VCRM is wonderful. From the moment you walk in the door they are friendly and always know your name. There is never a wait time. They keep it very efficient. They are also very thoughtful approaching every appointment with empathy. They always made sure I was comfortable, held my hand if I was in pain, and comforted me after treatments. Jessica, in particular, was wonderful and always called with such sensitivity and helped us answer any and all questions, never making us feel annoying or dumb. She guided us through every injection and was wonderful!
Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
VCRM is incredible. If you are looking for a personalized, cutting edge research experience when facing fertility issues, this is the best place to go. We were at previous clinic and faced two failed implantations and miscarriage. The entire experience was impersonal and cold. VCRM could not be any more different. They are determined to find a solution and help you acheive your goal of starting a family. You are never a number, and you are never made to feel like it's your fault. They look at the whole picture and create a wonderful experience amongst a very sensitive and personal business.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
It was the standard price of $20K+ for retreival and one cycle of implantation and all care appts/bloodwork etc. Meds were seperate.
Describe Fady Sharara's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Sharara wants you to have the healthiest pregnancy possible, so he's always going to advise on that.

Dr. Sharara was extraordinarily helpful. He did not judge our situation or second guess our decision to use a surrogate. There was no pressure to take different routes of treatment. We fully trusted all his decisions and knowledge of the process we were going through...He never rushed through any explanation, answered all of our questions, and quelled any concerns we brought up. He was patient with us...
She [nurse at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] was patient, super super responsive, and always reassured us when we were feeling overwhelmed or frustrated. You can tell she was supportive and excited during every step of the process...Strengths: organized, friendly, clean, easy to navigate. Front desk staff was warm and welcoming. Nurses were amazing. How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Sharara was extraordinarily helpful. He did not judge our situation or second guess our decision to use a surrogate. There was no pressure to take different routes of treatment. We fully trusted all his decisions and knowledge of the process we were going through. We couldn't be more happy with our time with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Be patient, bring a lot of questions, but trust the doctor and his decisions. He is incredibly knowledgeable. Do not bring Dr. Google into the room. You are paying Dr. Sharara for a reason. He knows best.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
From our first consultation, you could tell Dr. Sharara wanted to help us achieve the goal of starting our family. He never rushed through any explanation, answered all of our questions, and quelled any concerns we brought up. He was patient with us. It was a wonderful experience.
Describe the protocols Fady Sharara used in your cycles at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
We didn't have a normal treatment protocol. I came to VCRM because my husband and I had spent almost the last decade at Johns Hopkins Fertility trying to get pregnant and it wasn't happening. Eventually it was determined I could not have children. So we got a surrogate and lawyers and started looking for a clinic that would help us. VCRM did not hesitate with that help. We went through our consultation, the medical clearance for the surrogate, then two rounds of transfers with donor embryos. The second round worked and now we are about 10 weeks along with a little baby girl.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine. (Assigned nurse: Jessica)
Jessica was a fantastic human. She was patient, super super responsive, and always reassured us when we were feeling overwhelmed or frustrated. You can tell she was supportive and excited during every step of the process. My husband, surrogate, and I could not have asked for a compassionate, fantastic person to be our news. We loved Jessica and will miss her dearly!
Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Strengths: organized, friendly, clean, easy to navigate. Front desk staff was warm and welcoming. Nurses were amazing. The entire atmosphere was wonderful. Weakness: nothing. The experience we had was incredible.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Consultation: I cant remember Medical Clearance for Surrogate + ERA: 6k or so total. Medicines for Surrogate: $100-500 depending on what was being ordered. Adopted Embryos: $11,500 each - genetically tested. Sonograms after transfers: $585 each (2 total)
Describe Fady Sharara's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
At first, I wondered why we weren't transferring multiple embryos at a time, but in the long run eSET saved us quite a bit of money. I trusted the doctor's decisions and recommendations.

Dr. Sharara is very prompt; if you have work, school, or children to attend to, this is invaluable. I always was given the opportunity to ask questions and feedback was always thorough and honest. Dr. Sharara would explain his logic any time testing was needed and also would explain how any abnormal test results that came up could affect fertility. I never went into a test or procedure feeling like it didn't serve a very specific purpose or like I didn't know what the outcome would be if something came up in testing.
This [VA Center for Reproductive Medicine] clinic is thorough, very efficient, incredibly detail oriented, appointments are always availble quickly, the staff are friendly and compassionate, and in my experience, they get results. The one and only downside is that this practice is probably on the pricier end, but when I made my first appointment, Trisha checked with my insurance that VCRM is covered and advised what the price would be for certain procedures because they were out of network as a surgery center; that was above and beyond transparency and I was happy to pay a bit more for that level of consideration.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Prepare to move quickly. I had seen another fertility specialist prior to Dr. Sharara and it took months to get any kind of feedback from them, only to be told they didn't know what the issue was and to just keep trying. Dr. Sharara gave me a list of tests and when we'd do them during my first consult, I literally had all my testing done and had a diagnosis less than 3 months in. And even that was delayed because the radiology center didn't have an appointment available for my HSG during the first cycle I could have done it.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Sharara and his staff are all absolutely lovely and compassionate people. My appointments always began on time, I was greeted by name every time I walled into the office, and Dr. Sharara was kind, very thorough in both testing and explanations of procedures and tests. I felt like I was genuinely believed that I had done everything in my power to get pregnant and that there had to be something else going on.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
The nursing staff are all fantastic. Anytime I went in for procedures, the room and equipment were setup and ready to go, everyone was very friendly and thorough.

He [Dr. Sharara] put me on an aggressive vitamin protocol, tested my thyroid and found it was slightly hyperactive and put me on Levothyroxine, found a unique genetic abnormality that makes me not absorb regular folic acid and put me on methylfolate, he told me to sign up for acupuncture for stress. He is a 360-degree doctor who leaves no stone unturned....
VCRMed is incredible...I picked appointment times that worked for my schedule and never once waited. Signed in and went straight to the US room...Jo Medina [nurse] is an angel, a saint, a god-send. She cares so much for her patients and is always available, whether it is to answer a frantic text, explain the protocol, or do your injection for you. She is absolutely amazing...They [staff] added so much ease and comfort to a very challenging, draining process
How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Somewhere around half of Dr. Sharara's patients come to him after going somewhere else first without any luck—that was my husband and me. At our first clinic (I'll leave them unnamed), I always felt they weren't doing enough, that it was a fertility farm, next one in, next one out. I remember begging for a list of recommended vitamins I should be taking, and they just said the prenatal. We had three failed cycles with them. We needed more care. We needed a personalized approach that would leave no stone unturned, and that was Dr. Sharara and his team at VCRMed. He put me on an aggressive vitamin protocol, tested my thyroid and found it was slightly hyperactive and put me on Levothyroxine, found a unique genetic abnormality that makes me not absorb regular folic acid and put me on methylfolate, he told me to sign up for acupuncture for stress. He is a 360-degree doctor who leaves no stone unturned. Too long, didn't read? Two words: Miracle Worker!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Listen to him! He knows what he's doing!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Would it have been enough for them to give us a baby? Yes, absolutely. But they did it with so much warmth, care, and personal touch. Dr. Sharara, Jo, Mary, Trisha, Lily, everyone... they were all rooting for us and you could feel it. They added so much ease and comfort to a very challenging, draining process. I love them all!

Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
VCRMed is incredible. I have a friend in Florida who I told to fly to Virigina to see D. Sharara. I have a friend in Paris who is coming back in December for a 3rd child. That speaks for itself. If people are flying in to see Dr. Sharara and his team, you know they're the best!
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Having been at a fertility farm before with a line wrapped around the ultrasound room and blood-draw room, VCRMed was an absolute dream. I picked appointment times that worked for my schedule and never once waited. Signed in and went straight to the US room. So appreciated this after my first experience.

We tried 2 protocols [with Dr. Fady Sharara]. The first one was unsuccessful. My eggs died before the afternoon. The second protocol with lifestyle change including higher quality vitamins, reduction in exercise, caffeine, alcohol and meat worked for us...We agreed with our doctor's approach that transferring no more than 2 embryos was the best. He was not in the business of making herds of children. We opted to transfer one embryo.
All of the staff [at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] have been with Dr. Sharara for some time so they are in lock step with him. anyone can pick up right where the other left off. It's quite a family environment. all of the nurses are excellent, including Jessica and Jo and the front desk staff Mary and Trisha...$4500 for Transfer. Does not include meds or lab work
How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
We were in our early 40's and had been unsuccessful in getting pregnant naturally. We tried several different routes before moving forward with IVF. Saying thank you to Dr. Sharara doesn't seem like enough. He made our dreams come true and was very knowledgeable and thorough. He is an expert in his craft and I would recommend anyone wanting to get personalized care and sucessful results to go to him immediately. Don't wait
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
If you under the age of 35 and are not ready to have children, go see Dr. Sharara and use his service to freeze your eggs. Although we were successful after many years and lots of money, I don't wish the process on anyone. Give yourself the peace of mind you deserve.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
My husband and I deliberately switching to VCRM from another large fertility clinic in the area for this reason. We didn't want to feel like we were going to a baby making factor but instead chose Dr. Sharara and his small, initimate, family type staff and center.

I underwent three tests to check my uterus and ovaries [with Dr.Sharara]. I had a polypectomy which determined my uterus was covered in polyps which blocked anything from implanting. He immediately did surgery to remove the polyps...was the only one to pinpoint a specific problem that the others did not even think of. After half a year of seeing Dr. Sharara I am now pregnant with my first baby. Dr. Sharara is a no nonsense doctor who cares about his patients, their time, and their care. I will gladly recommend Dr. Sharara to anyone.
The fees charged were very good [at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] and minimal compared to what I was expecting...From the moment I entered the doors for my first appointment I knew I was more than just a patient to them. They've always greeted me with smiles and kind words. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 5 years. I've seen military specialists, fertility specialists and regular OB-GYNs. Initially he [Dr. Sharara] recommended we adjust what we eat. He has an app that provides recommended foods that are good for fertility. After running tests he put both my husband and myself on supplements to increase out sperm and egg quality. He recommended we do IVF but we wanted to try IUI because it was less costly. After that didn't work we transitioned into IVF, after the first round with an mosaic and abmornal embryos that we did decide to transfer and no success, we tried PRP procedure and then the next IVF round produced 2 normal embryos.
All of the costs of the procedures and processes were fully explained [by Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] prior to moving forward and they communicated well with my insurance company...They are amazing group of people. When you walk in the door the wait is minimal they are very timely. They are a knowledgable group and will adress any and all questions that you may have. No surprises.
How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Success!!!!! 39 yrs old and pregnant!!!!!!!!! It is because of Dr. Sharara’s expertise, persistence, ability to pivot when obstacles arose and his amazing team (Jo (MVP), Lilly, Trisha, Mary and everyone else behind the scenes). We first met with Dr. Sharara about a year and a half ago. He was up front with us about the process and our chances of success based on our ages (at the time 37 & 41) and health. He walked us through each and every step of the process. From what we should be eating, to the supplements that we should be taking to improve our chances for healthy egg & sperm quality to the various options of procedures that may lead to success. For us it was through IVF. Through every step of the IVF process, including the ups and the downs Dr. Sharara was always on target with his estimates of our likelihood of success. When we faced obstacles or challenges he provided techniques, methods, and procedures to overcome them. It has been a long journey from then to now with successes and heartbreaks. However, through it all Dr. Sharara and his incredible team have been extremely supportive and have used everything at their disposal to give us an opportunity to have a child. We are now happy to report that we are 11 weeks pregnant and everything is going smoothly. Thanks to Dr. Sharara and his team (especially Jo) for all of their hard work and guidance! We owe you everything.

Dr. Sharara made me feel welcome and at ease from the first consultation. He did a thorough review of my medical records with me and explained the next diagnostics needed. He learned the names of some of my family members and asks after them. The appointments often end with a hug from him... He also sets realistic expectations...recommends a single embryo transfer and provides literature/references to support that recommendation.
She [nurse at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] was always available when I needed to ask a question via text. I felt like she was my cheerleader. She was always very reassuring...Once there was an appointment I made that did not get put on the schedule. I had the appointment card though and they worked me in...The clinic runs on-time! Incredible!! The office is quiet and children are not permitted in the office. The front office staff is good about contacting you when there has been a schedule change. They do not do appointment confirmation calls/texts.
How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
I had a stellar experience. Dr. Sharara is forthright, compassionate, and confident. His diagnostics were very thorough. I appreciated his inclusion of recommendations for diet and overall health as part of the process. He gives you the tools to help your body be as successful as possible. I learned a lot from his app. I loved that he is the only provider because at a previous clinic I never knew who I would see or how familiar they were with my case. Dr. Sharara knew all the details and I saw him every time I went to the clinic. I found his confidence very reassuring. He also sets realistic expectations.

I was turned down by 5 places I called because I was 50 years old...he explained the whole procedure, and advise us on what we needed it to do. It was very challenging for me since I already passed menopause and had couple of body issues here and there, Doctor Sharara prepared my body for IVF. My first IVF failed, but neither he nor we gave up, so we went for round two! Iam now 9 weeks pregnant and we are sooooo excited and so happy that we made this decision. I was so glad to find Doctor Sharara, as he never turned down any questions or concerns that we ever had.

Amazing! My fiancé and I have been together for the last 8 years and I have 3 grown children but he is never been a father, so we discussed having a baby together. At first I was hesitant but at the same time I wanted him to experience being a father and when things are meant to be, they are meant to be! I was turned down by 5 places I called because I was 50 years old. Last place was VCRM, called made an appointment and met with Doctor Sharara, best decision ever! Dr. Sharara recommended we only transfer one embryo which was also our preference. He talked through all of our options to ensure we understood the potential outcomes...He didn't treat us like we were another number or patient in his books, you can tell he cared about what we were trying to accomplish and truly cared about getting us to our desired outcome. He was very thorough and would not rush us through the process to ensure our success...
The nursing staff at VCRM was incredible, they made us feel comfortable with each visit and even felt like family. I always felt comfortable and supported through the process...I felt like the clinic was personalized and didn't treat you like another patient or number in their books. I feel like the larger clinics try to churn out patients without the personalized care. What I loved most about the clinic is that the treat you like a person, and you can tell your case is unique and specific and personalized....

[Dr. Fady Sharara] handled all of our appointments himself and we saw him at every appointment...He provides an individualized care for the patient. He also took the time to explain anything we didn't understand and answer all questions whenever we had them...was the first specialist we saw and I'm grateful that we lucked out with the best.
The staff at VCRM is beyond kind and knowledge. Everyone was so nice at every visit and provided a caring and comforting atmosphere for such an emotional journey. When I graduated from VCRM to my OB, I was sad because I wouldn't be seeing the staff anymore...I never waited longer than 3 minutes to be seen...knowledgable when it came to my insurance coverage

Dr. Sharara is very kind, sincere, helpful, and informative. He held us accountable, was very direct, always explained risks and consequences, and was very knowledgeable. When the first egg retrieval didn’t well, he creatively worked to make it successful...He is very direct and will hold you accountable, but very kind and sincere...We did two egg retrievals. The first one didn’t work since all my eggs had an abnormal spacing. He put me on a powder, metformin, and changed medications. The second time worked!
[Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine is] Super great - clean, organized, and punctual. Mary and Trish were very very kind and helpful and always had a smile. The only thing that wasn’t optimal, due to the location, was the room for sperm retrieval. It would be better if it was in the back...Jo was so kind and helpful. She was always available and so great to talk to!

The front desk staff knew my name. Dr. Sharara always saw me within 5 minutes of my arrival which made me feel like I was one of a million patients he was seeing that day. He always remembered where we left off and did not ask me the same questions over and over again.
Describe the protocols Fady Sharara used in your cycles at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
I did a week of testing (they called it hell week) since everything had to be done on specific days of my cycle. He did a vaginal sonogram, HSG, Sonohysterogram, Hysteroscopy, and cultures. For my husband, he had him do a semantic analysis and cap score test.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
The busing staff was very knowledgeable and fast. It was clear that they’ve worked with Dr. Sharara for a long time. They have a good rapport and know what they’re doing.
Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
I love the pace at which they work. My time is important to me so the fact that the appointments were so short was really helpful to my working schedule. The doctor had a few planned vacations (as he should) but if they happened to be during a time I needed to come in (ie: when my period started or when I was ovulating) I would have to wait another month to get in. Ultimately we ended up getting pregnant naturally on one of these months we had to skip due to his vacation so it worked out for us in the end.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
I mainly just had my copays. For some of the testing there was an additional cost but Trish at the front desk always had it figured out for me. I was very nervous that I was going to be surprised with a $25,000 bill, but she made sure I always knew what to expect. 1 round of IUI was $600.

Dr Sharara has a warm beside manner but he will tell it to you straight and not sugar coat information....He prescribes a very thorough diagnostic testing and thanks to his diagnostics we were able to pinpoint the cause of our infertility. In regards to his diagnostic process, most fertility clinics just use a standard semen analysis. Dr Sharara uses a new piece of technology called the CAPSCORE. With this information, we were able to make an informed decision about starting IVF since we understood the cause of our infertility...
The nurses [at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine] are wonderful. How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
Thank you so much to Dr Sharara and his team at VCRM! Before selecting a fertility clinic, I did a lot of research and sought out Dr. Sharara based on his excellent reviews. I knew we made the right choice after our consultation. I was expecting a wait time of a few months for an initial appointment but much to my surprise, Dr Sharara was able to see me within a week or two of my initial call. Dr. Sharara greeted my husband and myself in the waiting room with a hug. He prescribes a very thorough diagnostic testing and thanks to his diagnostics we were able to pinpoint the cause of our infertility. In regards to his diagnostic process, most fertility clinics just use a standard semen analysis. Dr Sharara uses a new piece of technology called the CAPSCORE. With this information, we were able to make an informed decision about starting IVF since we understood the cause of our infertility. I truly believe because of this test and his expertise, Dr. Sharara saved us months of failed IUIs, heartbreak and stress. During his consultation he also discussed nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle changes. With his advice we were able to get as healthy as possible before undergoing IVF. I believe that his well-rounded and holistic approach contributed to our success. After a relatively straightforward egg retrieval, we ran into a few bumps on the road on the way to a transfer. Dr. Sharara had a solution for every problem and provided many suggestions to increase our chances of success (ERA and PRP). He was always there to encourage me when I felt overwhelmed and anxious. I always felt hopeful because I knew that I was in good hands. All of the staff are lovely, welcoming, and friendly and make you feel truly cared for. At my every appointment, Mary and Tricia were at the front desk to greet me by name. The nurses are wonderful. Jessica helped me learn how to do the injections and was always available to answer any question I had as well as providing emotional support. Thank you, Jessica! Thank you also to the amazing embryologists who took such great care of our embryos. There is a definite feeling that everyone is on your team and is rooting for you. in spite of my advanced maternal age, thankfully Dr. Sharara hung in there with us as we tried for a second child. From hysteroscopies, to removing polyps, and diet changes, I trusted Dr. Sharara as we worked through all possibilities. He advised, listened, and understood our personal journey as older parents...proposed the possibility of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) on the endometrium as last resort to my recurrent implantation failure (RIF)...
Without the unwavering hope of the entire VCRM team (my second family), I am not sure we’d be where we are today...personal individualized care - different approaches given my individual medical situation... in spite of my advanced maternal age, thankfully Dr. Sharara hung in there with us as we tried for a second child. How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
After a miscarriage and failed IVF cycles with one of the largest well-known fertility centers, I was referred to the personalized individual care of Dr. Sharara. Not long after, our baby was born! Fast forward 5 years and, in spite of my advanced maternal age, thankfully Dr. Sharara hung in there with us as we tried for a second child. From hysteroscopies, to removing polyps, and diet changes, I trusted Dr. Sharara as we worked through all possibilities. He advised, listened, and understood our personal journey as older parents. He and his supportive & cohesive team were committed to our success. The miracle: As our ‘Baby #2 chapter’ began to close, Dr. Sharara proposed the possibility of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) on the endometrium as last resort to my recurrent implantation failure (RIF). PRP is an effective/safe treatment in many medical fields, however, minimally applied in infertility. We had nothing to lose. I am now 4 months pregnant with our second child, and I will never forget the call I received with news of a positive blood test. Our embryo actually implanted! We remain forever grateful for Dr. Sharara’s expansive knowledge, intellect, experience, and perseverance. Without the unwavering hope of the entire VCRM team (my second family), I am not sure we’d be where we are today. This office is one-of-a-kind and will always hold a special place in my heart. I already miss seeing everyone, the laughs we shared, and just knowing they were always there. If you are open to the possibilities and trust the wealth of knowledge and expertise of this doctor, you may just get your wish, or two.

The confidence and clarity that Dr. Sharara presented put our minds at ease...proposed some new tests and analyses that we’d never been introduced to...we had a successful FTE transfer and are 10 weeks along now...Did blood work which revealed a protein S deficiency; ERA revealed that ideal implantation day was later than originally thought; repeated visits/lab work helped us get to the needed hormone dosages and delivery.
We drove almost 4 hours each way to work with the VCRM team, to much success...There were no real weaknesses that we discovered. We experienced an efficient staff and methodology, responsive team, and a great experience...Jo and the nursing staff were very personable, considerate, and responsive...Though going through the process was frustrating at times, it was not for lack of compassion, consideration, and rigor on the VCRM team’s part.
How was your experience with Fady Sharara at Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine?
After “getting” our son on our first implantation attempt, we were sad and disappointed when the next implantation didn’t take. But we weren’t discouraged, and we trusted the practice at UPMC Magee. We wanted another child badly enough to look past the impersonal, transactional interactions with the giant provider. But when the tally ran to two failed implantations and a miscarriage, we were left without any blinders or bias and started looking elsewhere. Research and “interviews” with a number of practices led us to Dr. Sharara and the VCRM team. From the first call, we could tell that they’d be who we’d trust our fertilization journey with from then on. The confidence and clarity that Dr. Sharara presented put our minds at ease (as much as possible), and the administrative and nursing support staff were personal, attentive, and understanding. We drove almost 4 hours each way to work with the VCRM team, to much success. Dr. Sharara proposed some new tests and analyses that we’d never been introduced to, in addition to the one or two that UPMC said might be helpful. Though going through the process was frustrating at times, it was not for lack of compassion, consideration, and rigor on the VCRM team’s part. After all was said and done, we had a successful FTE transfer and are 10 weeks along now. We know we would not be at this point with our old provider, and we can’t thank (and recommend) Dr. Sharara, Jo, and the entire VCRM staff enough.

Jo and the nursing staff were very personable, considerate, and responsive. Far and away better than the cold, clinical experience we had at UPMC Magee.
Describe your experience with Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine.
There were no real weaknesses that we discovered. We experienced an efficient staff and methodology, responsive team, and a great experience. It was worth driving to from Pittsburgh, PA, a few times a month.

Dr. Sharara biggest strengths is remaining positive, always smiling and giving big friendly hugs and full of courageousness. Very knowledgeable by informing my husband and I, our priorities on bettering our health, and his Diet App is very useful and informative...He has such a pure soul helping every patient with all his heart, and time...has good understanding of every small, big concerns, and any questions of the patient's...We had one IVF with no luck, and the doctor did not give up hope at all. We felt very confident with Dr. Sharara. He explained everything very clearly to us and we trusted him every step of the way. He was so caring and professional. I was nervous about doing fertility treatments, but as soon as we met Dr. Sharara we knew we were in good hands...We were also worried about finding a doctor who was LGBT-friendly. Dr. Sharara and his staff were so wonderful!!...he walked us through every choice we made.
worried about finding a doctor who was LGBT-friendly. Dr. Sharara and his staff were so wonderful!! We are so glad we found VCRM...I’ve never been to a doctor’s office were I spent so little time in the waiting room. Dr. Sharara and his staff were so respectful of our time. Everyone was so welcoming every time we came in and they were all so helpful and supportive. Through all the ups and downs, Dr. Sharara and his staff were compassionate and caring. When I was far enough along to move on to seeing an obstetrician, we were sad to say good-bye to everyone at VCRM. Both my wife and I would highly recommend Dr. Sharara!
