This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.
For more information please see our FAQs.
Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

[Washington Fertility Center] Strengths...very quickly and efficiently...felt like a member of the family...easy to communicate...saw him at most appointments, or at least the main nurse...Weaknesses: This is not a beautiful, gleaming fertility office...You do need to stay on top of your treatment protocol and follow up about things
How was your experience with Pierre Asmar at Washington Fertility Center?
Dr. Asmar really made me feel like he cared about me and my treatment. He was very easy to reach outside of appointments and would frequently reply to my emails after hours, on holidays, and when he was on vacation. He even called me on Christmas Eve after I sent him an email expressing anxiety about my HSG test!
Dr. Asmar also approaches treatment in a way that is grounded in current scientific evidence. He frequently explained his rationale for different protocols in the context of new research, and he guided me to/away from various interventions (e.g., acupuncture) based on research findings. I had a tricky issue related to stubbornly thin uterine lining, and he described staying up late looking at research articles to find different approaches to use! He was also incredibly receptive to my preferences and suggestions and was willing to alter treatment plans to accommodate me.
My only complaint about Dr. Asmar is that, in the beginning of treatment, he had a hard time remembering aspects of my history or treatment, which resulted in me needing to stay vigilant during discussions of treatment planning. This was no longer an issue after I had been going there for a while and he became more familiar with me, though.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Pierre Asmar at Washington Fertility Center?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and advocate for yourself! He will listen.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Pierre Asmar at Washington Fertility Center?
Dr. Asmar has, by far, the best bedside manner of any fertility doctor we consulted with. He is incredibly kind, warm, and upbeat, and he and his staff really made me feel like they knew and cared about me and the success of my treatment. I felt like a member of the family at the clinic and was honestly sad to "graduate" after my 9 week scan.
Describe the protocols Pierre Asmar used in your cycles at Washington Fertility Center and their degree of success.
My husband and I initiated testing and treatment at Washington Fertility after trying on our own for three months (we were impatient!). Dr. Asmar took us seriously and did not send us away to try for one year.
After testing, per my request, we did one medicated cycle (Letrozole) before moving on to three IUIs. Dr. Asmar explained that medicated cycles are not very effective but was receptive to my wishes to try one before starting more invasive treatments. Because research indicates IUIs are unlikely to be successful after three failed cycles, we then moved onto IVF.
We did one egg retrieval with ICSI, despite having no known sperm issues, because Dr. Asmar explained the current state of research on IVF with and without ICSI and let us choose (while generally recommending ICSI). Out of 21 follicles, we retrieved 16 eggs, 13 of which were mature, 11 fertilized, 10 made it to day 5 blastocysts, and 8 were PGT-A normal.
We had three cancelled transfer cycles, trying different things each cycle to thicken my lining. On the fourth cycle, my lining got thick enough and we transferred our first embryo. It worked! I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant with our daughter, and the remaining 7 embryos are frozen.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Washington Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Lan Nguyen)
In general, the nursing staff at Washington Fertility was wonderful. They were very kind and understanding, and I felt that they cared about me and my treatment. Lan and Manalia in particular really went above and beyond to help me feel heard and cared for, and they provided many hugs and tissues during difficult appointments.
Occasionally, things would fall through the cracks and I would need to follow up about something (e.g., medication quantities) and advocate for myself. But in general, I felt that I was in excellent hands with the nursing staff at this clinic.
Describe your experience with Washington Fertility Center.
Strengths: Everything happened very quickly and efficiently - there was no wasted time (but also no rushing). I felt like a member of the family and like everyone there was truly rooting for me to succeed. It was easy to communicate with Dr. Asmar, the nurses, and the scheduling coordinators, both during and outside of business hours, and I never felt uncomfortable asking questions or expressing treatment preferences. Dr. Asmar takes a truly evidence-based approach to treatment while also being receptive to patient preferences and concerns. I saw him at most appointments, or at least the main nurse, so I always felt connected to my treatment team.
Weaknesses: This is not a beautiful, gleaming fertility office - it can be a little off-putting when you first walk in. You do need to stay on top of your treatment protocol and follow up about things that might fall through the cracks, especially when you're first starting treatment and the staff doesn't know you as well. Occasionally you will see a staff sonographer instead of the nurse or Dr. Asmar, and some of them are not great.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Pierre Asmar at Washington Fertility Center.
Describe Pierre Asmar's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Washington Fertility Center.
Dr. Asmar has a very strong preference for single embryo transfers over multiple embryo transfers, given the research on pregnancy outcomes and risks for singleton vs. multiple pregnancies. He explained this research to us prior to the start of IVF and we agreed.
What specific things went wrong at Washington Fertility Center?
Dr. Banks is warm, intelligent, and thoughtful. She made me feel like we were partners in the process. One little difference that I love is that she always angles the ultrasound monitor screen so that I can also see it, and describes to me what she's seeing. I felt so much more knowledgeable and better able to participate in decision making. I appreciated that she respected my personal preferences, risk assessments, and decisions,
This [Wash Fert Ctr] is not a fancy place. They're smart, they're caring, and they've done this for awhile, but they're a lean operation. I had straightforward needs - no infertility diagnosis and natural cycle IUIs...If you need a ton of hand-holding or want the front office to run like clockwork they may not be right for you, but if you're looking for a less-expensive, capable option for fertility treatment, they're a great alternative to the bigger operations in the area.

I appreciated that she respected my personal preferences, risk assessments, and decisions, while always providing counsel to help me make an informed decision (e.g., when I decided to cancel an IUI cycle because I didn't like the follicle maturation pattern, or when we decided to try one cycle with Clomid).
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Nicole Banks at Washington Fertility Center?
Dr. Banks always remembered details of my case, greeted me warmly, and asked about my daughter. Our appointments felt like a continuing conversation rather than rapid processing. She always takes time to answer questions, explain procedures, and set expectations.
Describe the protocols Nicole Banks used in your cycles at Washington Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We primarily did natural cycle IUIs. I have no diagnosed fertility issues - doing IUI because I'm a single mother by choice using donor sperm. I appreciated that Dr. Banks did not make me do extensive fertility testing before starting treatment, as all of the testing would have been out of pocket. She was very thoughtful about what was truly required versus nice to have, and let me make the cost/benefit trade off. When I had a few cycles that were "off" - the follicle wasn't maturing at my normal pace and ovulation was delayed - we tried one cycle with a small dose of Clomid. We did not do an IUI that month since I produced 10+ eggs and she said that even if I was willing to go through with insemination, she wasn't (very fair!). We went back to natural cycles after that, though she said that if we ever needed to move to IVF, we know my body responds well to Clomid. My pregnancy is the result of a natural cycle IUI.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Washington Fertility Center.
It's a lean operation. They don't so much have nurses as supporting staff. I like them all and they treated me well, but the primary relationship is with the doctor.
Describe your experience with Washington Fertility Center.
This is not a fancy place. They're smart, they're caring, and they've done this for awhile, but they're a lean operation. I had straightforward needs - no infertility diagnosis and natural cycle IUIs - and they have been great at treating me for both of my pregnancies (one live birth, one 10 weeks along). If you need a ton of hand-holding or want the front office to run like clockwork they may not be right for you, but if you're looking for a less-expensive, capable option for fertility treatment, they're a great alternative to the bigger operations in the area.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Nicole Banks at Washington Fertility Center.
Their care is so much less expensive than any of the other area options! My natural cycle IUI cash rate should have been a $795 flat fee (includes all ultrasounds and blood work), but they actually grandfathered me into the rates from my first pregnancy with them, so I paid even less than that.
Describe Nicole Banks's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Washington Fertility Center.
We didn't discuss embryo transfer, but did discuss the number of mature follicles that she was willing to proceed with for an IUI. She said that two would be a conversation, but not a major concern. Three mature follicles would be a very serious conversation and potentially counsel to not proceed. Four or above she would not be willing to proceed with the IUI.

Doctor [Pierre Asmar]was cheerful but not detail-oriented. Never felt like he really understood/remembered that I was there because I'm a single mother by choice, rather than that I had diagnosed fertility issues...Ask questions and be alert. I learned most of what I needed to know by listening to the conversation between the doctor and the staff and asking for clarification about what they were saying.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Pierre Asmar at Washington Fertility Center?
The office was odd. It looked like a front for a criminal enterprise - no filing cabinets behind the front desk, no land line, difficulty answering questions without calling the main location, difficulty making appointments (they write my time on a piece of scrap paper and said they'd call me back if it wouldn't work out). Doctor came in and said, cheerfully, "you know the drill!" even though it was my first visit. I eventually figured out they were expecting me to undress for a vaginal ultrasound. Hard to feel either like a number or a human when the whole place just felt disorganized.

What specific things went wrong at Washington Fertility Center?
She [Dr. Abbasi] was thorough and open. We liked her.We did not work with her for very long because we moved out of the area. She was personable and careful. We trusted her and would have continued with her if we had not moved.
They [the staff at Washington Fertility Center] were professional and efficient but very human and kind...I don't remember having any problems with this practice. I don't think we ever felt hurried or ignored. I'm sure we would have gone on to the next option after we tried an unsuccessful insemination, but we moved.
