Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is on a 1 - 10 scale, and is scored based on the rate, and severity, of errors committed by the clinic according to the patients.

For example, a severe error might be failing to inform a patient of critical information, while a small error might be failing to call a patient with results.

CDC Success Rates

This is the most recent data from the CDC. The CDC cautions that it should not be used to compare doctors and clinics. This data represents the outcomes of IVF cycles when using a person's own eggs.

For more information please see our FAQs.

Where you see a “?” on the chart, a clinic has done fewer than 20 cycles in this category and age range, so the CDC says showing percentages from this small data set would be misleading and unreliable.

How was your experience with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Overall I have had pleasant experiences with Dr. Carolina Sueldo. She has taken the time to answer all questions I have had and make clinical suggestions as they are necessary. At times there have been some "grey" areas in my plan of care. This is specific to whether or not to utilize frozen over fresh donor eggs and the importance of using a "proven" donor. However, I understand there is no one right answer and outcome is not necessarily a result of one choice over the other. At the time I just felt that if she preferred one option over the other then it would have been helpful to have known ahead of time and it would have helped me make a decision. Being on the patient end of treatment, you are already overwhelmed and emotionally torn. Making these decisions is difficult and you look to your provider for clear guidance and answers. On the contrary, I understand the potential liability Dr. Sueldo faces as well as the neutrality she must maintain. Overall, Dr. Carolina is very pleasant to work with and she appears to have genuine passion for her patients and her practice.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Stay open minded. Come in with clear questions, so you can get clear answers.

Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Knowing that I had severely diminished ovarian reserve, being able to retrieve my own eggs for an IVF cycle was going to be tricky. Dr. Carolina set out a clear plan that we would attempt to stimulate but if there was not strong enough response then we would move forward with donor eggs rather than wasting time and money for low outcome results.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The nursing staff all around was pleasant and friendly. I never felt like they had passion or personal interest in my care plan, however this did not interrupt them from doing their jobs. They were direct and able to give instructions based off the plan of care, but were not in a position to educate or further discuss potential questions or concerns.

Carolina Sueldo did an incredible job with her bedside manner. During procedures she was warm, understanding of discomfort, and gave all of the time I needed for questions. She was always extremely realistic and cautious. My husband especially appreciated her cautioned hope, because it helped me manage my emotions and expectations. Sometime with infertility it feels like doctors promise the world. With each hoop, even when the news was not what we had hoped, it was clear she cared in her delivery.
The [Women's Specialty & Fertility Center - Clovis] clinic is very clean and very welcoming...I had Sandra as the MA who I saw each visit. She explained all of my injections and medications. She was extremely patient with my questions...The option was given to us at the time of transfer to implant two embryos based upon the quality of the embryos. The rational was explained well, and thus we decided to implant two.
How was your experience with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
My best explanation of Dr.Carolina’s care is with an example from a procedure. It was an uncomfortable procedure. Dr.Sueldo was calm and compassionate. She counted down the images she needed and calmly told me how much longer the procedure would take. I have never had a doctor so deeply concerned with my comfort along with doing the procedure. She was always respectful and always gave a place for my husband and I to make decisions in our care. With IVF, you see your doctor so frequently, it means everything to trust your doctor and your care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr. Sueldo gave us a few different options along with the research and her professional opinion. We took some time to process the options which meant waiting a bit for the next ivf cycle. At times we wanted to just jump into the cycle and get the ball rolling. With ivf it can feel like the waiting will never end, and the assessments and time to process the options can feel like it is delaying the process.

Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We knew that my husband would need to have a MESA. After having an ultrasound and an HSG it was also clear that I have a 5mm uterine fibroid. We were given the research regarding uterine fibroid size and implantation rates. We were given the option to do a myomectomy or proceed with IVF. Given our options, we chose to go with ivf and a fresh embryo transfer. It did result in the live birth. The pregnancy was complicated by uterine fibroid growth that resulted in IUGR.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Sandra)
I had Sandra as the MA who I saw each visit. She explained all of my injections and medications. She was extremely patient with my questions. With COVID my spouse was not allowed with me, so Sandra would let me record her instructions so I did not miss anything as the medication can be overwhelming.
Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The clinic is very clean and very welcoming. Not the clinic’s fault, but with COVID they did not allow partner’s. (Which I understand protecting staff and other patients). It was hard to go through the process without my partner. The clinic was very welcoming of FaceTiming my partner during each visit to make sure he was included and I was supported.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
It was $10,000 for the IVF cycle (not including blood tests and medication). They were able to bill my insurance for the testing and evaluations prior to our ivf cycle.
Describe Carolina M. Sueldo's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The option was given to us at the time of transfer to implant two embryos based upon the quality of the embryos. The rational was explained well, and thus we decided to implant two.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
Recently, staff mistakenly did not order the MRI necessary. After waiting a week I called staff and it was ordered.

Carolina is a very knowledgeable and passionate doctor and person. She was always prepared to answer questions in a way that were descriptive but easy to understand. She was a great doctor in a scary time for us. We’re exploring fertility treatments again and I wouldn’t go anywhere else as she’s made me feel super comfortable.
The [Women's Specialty & Fertility Center - Clovis] clinic is in a good location, the office is clean, the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. There can be a wait to get in due to the quality of their work, but it’s worth calling for cancellations. Their office staff worked to get me seen earlier than my scheduled appointment and never seem bothered by me calling multiple times. The only weakness is cost, but that is not specifics to this clinic.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Carolina always presented information in a factual but warm manner. She was compassionate about our fertility issues and desire to have a baby.
Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We began with testing ovarian reserve, various hormones, a diagnostic ultrasound and an HSG. I had one ovary removed due to cancer, so she prescribed clomid as a way to give us a super ovulation. We monitored my cycle and the thickness of my uterus. She said she wanted to have the ideal conditions to achieve pregnancy. We had timed inter course with an HCG trigger shot to release the mature egg and achieve pregnancy.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The nursing staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My first consult for the way IVF would work was with Missy and she broke the steps down in a manner that were easy to understand. She took time to answer questions and never made me feel like she was rushing me.

When we underwent fertility treatment the first time, my insurance covered 50% of costs and 100% of medications. Under our IVF quotes, the office is quoting me $17,600 including egg transfer and not including genetic testing and medicines.
Describe Carolina M. Sueldo's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Carlos Sueldo is incredibly thorough and professional during appointments. He explains things in medical terminology and then explains what it all means in layman’s terms, which I really appreciate because I like to look things up and research, but I find it so intimidating when doctor’s only explain using medical terms and expect a patient to already know what it all means. During physical exams, he is professional and gentle and again, explains everything as he goes...
The whole nursing staff [at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center] is very competent and their communication between themselves regarding patients is succinct and professional. I never have to explain my care plan when I call and speak to anyone other than my primary nurse...This clinic’s strength’s are that they are friendly, knowledgeable, and always treat me as a patient, respectfully...For our first round, which included egg retrieval and a fresh transfer of 2 day 3 embryos, the cost was $12k. A subsequent round, which was a frozen transfer, was $4K. These costs did not include medications....

As a patient with Dr. Carlos Sueldo, he is great at making me feel heard, always asking if I have any questions and making sure I understand what’s happening. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carlos Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?

The only thing that ever went wrong at this clinic, is that a virtual appointment for a follow up was not scheduled correctly so I needed to call to check on it, versus having them call with appointment details. It was a small inconvenience that was fixed.

How was your experience with Carlos Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr Sueldo and all of the team at the clinic were always so nice and compassionate. We never left feeling unheard or unseen. We were always explained every procedure in detail as well. He was very understanding and accommodating when I wanted to transfer two embryos despite his recommendation and the risks. I always felt like I was in good hands. I will never forget my transfer. He had me look at the ultrasound screen and said “You see those tiny glowing dots? Those are your babies.” Just a very kind and warm human. Bedside manner plays such a big part during such a rough time. We’re already so emotional and anxious and I always felt at ease during my appointments.

Describe the protocols Carlos Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I remember them cutting back on my meds before the retrieval due to my ultrasound showing an excess amount of follicles. Their fear was I would suffer from OHSS and I had no idea what that even was so I appreciated them really staying on top of everything. I know that should come without saying but I’ve heard horror stories. The office also suggested a pharmacy for my meds that worked with me and cut a lot of the cost down. On the day of my transfer for IVF, Dr Sueldo really wanted to transfer one embryo. I wanted two. We talked and he let me know his rationales for one embryo and the risks with two. Me being stubborn and desperate, I continued to ask for two and he respected my decision. They really stayed in tune with my body and how I was responding to every med which to me was reassuring because I felt like I was in the right place. A place that was going to follow all the steps to try and ensure a successful treatment.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The nurses were always so kind. There were two that I won’t forget. One was Ashley. I saw her a few times and I knew if she was there, I was going to be well taken care of. She was just calming and kind. She was a part of my first IUI and my retrieval. She cared and was so empathetic. The other was Evelyn, who I believe is an MA. She was wonderful too. Always so nice and cheerful. You go there so often you start to build a rapport with certain people and I felt like I did with these two.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
During my initial consultation with Dr. Carolina Sueldo, she took the time to listen to all my concerns and questions. She never made me feel rushed or like I was taking up too much time. She genuinely cares and that comes across in how she treats you as a patient. Each time I have interacted with her, she is empathetic and caring. Her team of nurses and medical staff are also all wonderful.
Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
In preparation for my first IUI, Dr. Carolina Sueldo had me take 100mg of Clomid for 5 days, 75IU injection of Follistm for 4 days, and 250mcg injection of Ovidrel. That IUI didn't result in pregnancy, but I responded well to the medication, so for my 2nd IUI Dr. Sueldo changed my Follistim to one 150IU injection. She based this on research that showed one larger medication injection was similarly effective to 4 smaller injections. Unfortunately, my body didn't respond as well this time, so I needed to do a second and third 150IU injection of Follistim. This 2nd IUI also didn't result in pregnancy. On my 3rd IUI, Dr. Sueldo had me do the one 150IU injection of Follistim. My body responded well that time, but I still did not get pregnant.

Dr. Carolina was very professional with us (my husband and I both met with her for the first consultation). She was very frank, upfront, detailed, and gave us plenty of time to ask questions...The plan was for us to do up to three rounds of medicated IUI but I got my period and a negative pregnancy test on the same day that California issued a shelter-in-place order due to Covid-19 and our future cycles were cancelled/postponed. The plan continues to be to pick up with medicated IUI when it's deemed safe to resume treatments.
They [Women's Specialty & Fertility Center nurses] understood that we were driving in for appointments from out of town and did their best to work with our schedules and make sure that we weren't coming in to the clinic for unnecessary visits. They've been very compassionate, informative, and organized with our interactions so far...The clinic itself is very organized, clean, and easy to get to--even for us, coming from a couple of hours away. Being able to have access to other in-house services for our treatments was particularly important for us as we were traveling for each appointment. This was also comforting for us as it seemed like having different resources in the same center meant more organization and less trips/stops/appointments.
How was your experience with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
We had held one consultation and preliminary testing with one other fertility clinic before coming to Dr. Sueldo upon recommendation from a friend who had a successful round of IVF with Dr. Sueldo. It was immediately clear to us that Dr. Sueldo was interested in our story, making sure she was getting as much detail from us as possible. She gave us clear and direct information and then also gave us plenty of time to ask questions. She was quick to explain more about the areas where we soon came to realize we had been let down by previous doctors and specialists. For example, we'd been told we had "plenty of time" and could be "as aggressive as we wanted" by doctors in the past while Dr. Sueldo provided information about specific treatment options and success rates based on our testing, ages, etc. It's clear that Dr. Sueldo is committed not only to our care specifically but to improving care for Central Valley patients in general--we're often overlooked in all areas of healthcare, let alone when it comes to fertility. The thing that really convinced me that Dr. Sueldo and the Women's Specialty & Fertility Center were right for us was that she was very clear and direct with information, giving us specifics and realistic expectations.

Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I was diagnosed with Diminished Ovarian Reserve and Dr. Sueldo recommended up to three rounds of medicated IUI. I took Clomiphene for five days and was monitored by the clinic (Dr. Sueldo herself) to check on the progress of the follicles before administering an Ovidrel trigger shot. At my final appointment before the trigger shot, my lead follicle was measuring at 18 mm and Dr. Sueldo said that she considered me to be responding well to this Clomiphene dose for this first round (the first time I'd ever taken any sort of fertility drug OR gone through IUI). I didn't experience any major side-effects or reactions to the Clomiphene or the Ovidrel and the clinic was helpful in explaining how the process was going to work when it came to both administering the medication and ordering it all. The plan was for us to do up to three rounds of medicated IUI but I got my period and a negative pregnancy test on the same day that California issued a shelter-in-place order due to Covid-19 and our future cycles were cancelled/postponed. The plan continues to be to pick up with medicated IUI when it's deemed safe to resume treatments.

We were prescribed a few tests when we began our treatments that took place outside of the clinic for myself but were recommended by Dr. Sueldo including an HSG (around $350) and blood testing (around $100). When we decided to proceed with a medicated IUI we had the costs of a few appointments and ultrasounds to monitor my reaction to the medication ($250 appointment fees and $100 ultrasound, sometimes our insurance would cover the appointment fees), the sperm wash and IUI itself (around $450), medication (Clomiphene and Ovidrel, about $200)

Our first IVF round didn't yield any usable embryos, and our drugs and amounts used were changed to give us better results. Our second cycle gave us six day-5 embryos and we have had 2 positive pregnancy tests from those embryos after they were frozen. One of those was a twin pregnancy.

[Dr. Carolina Sueldo] was so good at sitting us down and going through our initial options. This was our first time trying anything fertility-wise and she broke down in detail why IUI was our best option to start and how it worked. However, once the process started, I never saw her again. I only saw the NNP and other doctors. That wasn’t necessarily an issue except I felt like I could never ask the million questions I had.

How was your experience with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Going to a fertility doctor in itself is a scary thing. This office was recommended by numerous coworkers who sought treatment here and had success. I felt very hopeful going in. Our first appointments went well and Dr. Sueldo was very good at going over all labs and procedures we planned to do. It was once the process started, I get like I went in, had my ultrasound by someone, and then left. We would come back a few days later, have the insemination and then left with “call us in 2 weeks.” Once the first treatment failed, I had soooo many questions. I just felt like I never had the chance to ask them. I never saw her again. I only spoke with the nurses or office girls. It was frustrating because I felt left in the dark. 3 failed cycles later and I don’t understand what went wrong. I know she may not be able to tell me, but I needed to hear that from her. I needed to know she cared and we would figure it out and move on to the next thing.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Ask questions and make it clear you want to speak with her throughout the whole process.

Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Each cycle I took 5 days of oral Clomid. This started in day 3. I went in on cycle day 10/11 and had a vaginal ultrasound to see how my ovaries were responding. Each time my ovaries responded differently, but still in a positive way. I was instructed to give myself ovidrel, the trigger shot, roughly 36 hours before insemination. The 3rd cycle I have it around 40 hours prior to with no explanation as to why. Then we would arrive 2 hours before our scheduled time the somewhat 36 hours later and my husband would drop off his sample we collected at home for it to be washed and processed. I then would go into the office about an hour after or so and the dr or nurse would come in, swab me, and inseminate me. I laid there for about 15 min after and then I was good to go. Only instructions were to take a home pregnancy test 2 weeks later and call with the results. I was also instructed to be taking throughout this process a daily prenatal vitamin and one baby aspirin.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The nursing staff was always amazing. My one nurse, Ashley, was so kind and empathetic and explained everything so thoroughly. I only had an issue once with the staff, and I’m not sure if she was a nurse. She was just not very sympathetic when I called to say my test was negative. Now I know it’s their job, but I was devastated and could’ve used some compassion.
Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
This clinic has multiple doctors and you can request to see one solely or be open to seeing them all. I agreed to see who was available but I’m not sure if that would have changed my experience if I had only seen one.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
Luckily my insurance covered most of our procedures but once we got into the new year, I hadn’t met my deductible so out of pocket I paid $400. This was after labs, 4 vaginal ultrasounds, and 3 iui. I did have small copays for clomid and ovidrel was $96 out of pocket from a delivering pharmacy in Arizona.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
[Protocol with Dr. Carolina Sueldo was a] Medicated IUI with Clomid and Ovidrel trigger...She was very patient and explained things slowly and clearly. No question was stupid and I asked a lot of questions. Taking in all that information can be overwhelming but she didn't rush me when I needed to take a moment and gather my thoughts... After she had gone over the results and diagnosed us unexplained we decided we would try naturally for 1 more cycle. Surprise! I got pregnant but before the Dr. could know she on maternity to have her baby. So the follow ups for this pregnancy and ultimately my miscarriage were handled by Dr. Carlos Sueldo and Dr. Synn.
IUI w/ sperm wash included $410 My total for 1st IUI was $723 [at Women's Speciality & Fertility Center]...Ashley [nurse] has done my antral follicle counts and counseled me through my miscarriage. She was there when I got the news and was very compassionate and was able to keep me calm...When it got within a couple days and I hadn't gotten a confirmation call I called myself to confirm. My heart sank when there was no appointment for me and I was upset. The person I spoke with was very nice, put me on hold and a couple minutes later came back and got me in for the day and time we originally had. So even though it was a mistake it was resolved very quickly.
How was your experience with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
I felt very comfortable with Dr Carolina Sueldo, she explained everything so well. Synn. Dr. Carlos Sueldo diagnosed my miscarriage and was very direct and did not sugar coat it which I believe helped my processing. Dr. Synn handled my miscarriage follow up and answered all my questions. He was very nice and sympathetic.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
The whole process is very overwhelming especially if this is the first clinic you are visiting. Leading up to your appointment take notes and think about your cycle and if anything is off, any bad habits that could affect fertility, discuss everything. What you do, what you eat, your lifestyle. Also, you don't need to learn everything now.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
She was very patient and explained things slowly and clearly. No question was stupid and I asked a lot of questions. Taking in all that information can be overwhelming but she didn't rush me when I needed to take a moment and gather my thoughts.
Describe the protocols Carolina M. Sueldo used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Medicated IUI with Clomid and Ovidrel trigger
Describe your experience with your nurse at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Ashley)
Ashley has done my antral follicle counts and counseled me through my miscarriage. She was there when I got the news and was very compassionate and was able to keep me calm.
Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
When you are prescribed your medications some of them will be sent off to a specialty pharmacy and they usually have a go to. Go home and call the pharmacy's and check prices. There's not that many and goodrx is a good starting point. I found Ovidrel $60 cheaper than the pharmacy they first sent it to and it was really quick and easy to ask them to change it. Do this for medications you get at your local pharmacies also, you never know who's got it the cheapest.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
Insurance covered all my diagnostic tests with only copays. Clomid $16 (100mg dose) Ultrasound $95 you will do at least 2 for the IUI and possibly 3 Ovidrel $107 ordered from Freedom Fertility (my choice) IUI w/ sperm wash included $410 My total for 1st IUI was $723

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
So when I made my appointment for my first consultation it was 5 weeks away. I began counting down the days. When it got within a couple days and I hadn't gotten a confirmation call I called myself to confirm. My heart sank when there was no appointment for me and I was upset. The person I spoke with was very nice, put me on hold and a couple minutes later came back and got me in for the day and time we originally had. So even though it was a mistake it was resolved very quickly.

Dr. Sueldo has GREAT bedside manner. She did her best to always be available to meet the needs of my working schedule. She explained our options clearly but never pressured us to make a decision that we were uneasy about. She is very knowledgeable about the IVF process and is honest about all possible outcomes. Although we did not get the results we wanted. Dr. Sueldo was positive and encouraging to not give up on us.
Everyone is kind. The front desk ladies [Women's Fertility Clinic] are eager to greet you and ask how you are doing. ... They did get a little behind sometimes causing the wait time to be a little long. ... One nurse did give me the wrong instructions on medication that I needed to take and how often. Luckily it didn’t mess up my results too much, and I do think she was talked to about it not happening again.

Dr. Sueldo got me quickly in the right IVF meds and monitored my blood levels very closely. She adjusted medications to get the most amount of eggs retrieved. She advised us to use a sperm donor because our first cycle showed very little mobility of sperm and so she wanted us to have our best chance of a successful pregnancy.

How was your experience with Carolina M. Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
My start of treatments was hopeful. Meeting with C Sueldo gave me hope. She was so nice and innovative. So I started treatments in January and it was a process. After 3 months no luck we move on to IUI. She ending up doing my first one, no luck. My second IUI was done and it stuck. I could not believe this was going to happen for us. I did the blood test until the 6 week 3 day mark and they were good. We go in for that first ultrasound and all they find is a empty sac. With no compassion or sensitivity knowing that we were coming in to see so much more the Sueldo Sr came in and stated to come back next week and we will figure out what to do with it. IT, yes the sac inside my uterus that I worked so hard for. He was so cold and spoke with no hope that anything could possibly show up the next week. A week later we go back with defeated hearts and they find a heartbeat. This time a nurse practitioner saw us and stated it is viable now because of a heartbeat but there could be serious genetic issues like Down syndrome, etc. but to come back next week. Another week goes by and baby measures a week further so they send my to the OB. Ultimately my pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. And unfortunately I’m worried to start treatments again at that clinic due to the terrible bedside manner from the other doctors that were not even my dr. I was very disappointed that I was not being seen by my original dr.

When I first came and I met with her she was very helpful. Once I started treatments I never met with her again. She came into the room and did my first IUI after that I was seen by the other doctors in the clinic. My second IUI actually worked, I went in for the follow up ultrasounds and the Sueldo Sr. came in had the worst bedside manner and was very cold to my husband and what were we’re experiencing. After going back a week later for more bad news the nurse practitioner that we saw was the same way. There was no compassion or I’m sorry for what your dealing with.

He [Dr. Carlos Sueldo] was vary personal with me and my husband the 1st time we met. He explain that I have PCOS abc that’s he would start me on medforman. We left that apt feeling vary hopefully. ... He also explained that the reason he was going to be doing that was because I was overweight and they have found with people overweight they respond more to famara then Clomid.
As a new patient it might take a little bit to get an appointment. But once you get an appointment everything else after that is very fast and easy to get into. They [Women's Specialty & Fertility Center] very clean efficient and I never waited longer than 30 minutes total for an appointment. ... How was your experience with Carlos Sueldo at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr. Carlos Sueldo was vary helpful. And we went into our first consultation appointment, he explained to me and my husband that i had pcos and that the course of treatment would be medforman with Famara 5 mg, the trigger shot and baby aspirin. He also explained that the reason he was going to be doing that was because I was overweight and they have found with people overweight they respond more to famara then Clomid. With my OB I had already done six rounds of Clomid to all the way up to 250 mg with out any results. I would go in to check my egg production right before I would do the trigger shot. We were only at the clinic for three rounds before I became pregnant.

He [Dr. Synn] has a very realistic/pesimistic attitude. I didn't feel as if he was doing everything he could. I felt kind of like a conveyer and this is our system so that's what you will do. Not a great bedside manner, not rude but not warm either....He is a very educated man in his field. It was very much so this is the steps so lets do them one after the other and that was it. He is a very straight forward man. Not a warm person, but talented in what he does.
The Strengths [Women's Speciality & Fertility] would be Communication and scheduling. They were able to get me in when I needed. Work with my schedule. They also made sure I was clear on instructions and made sure any questions were answered. The weaknesses were there was not much information on how to save money or financial avenues that can be taken. When you're doing this out of pocket it would be nice to be informed more....The nursing staff is why I would go back. They are more than helpful, supportive, warm and kind. I couldn't have asked for a better nursing team.

He [Dr. Synn] is a very friendly doctor. Was always in a good mood. Was warm and compassionate. He was very knowledgeable. If I didn’t understand something he would explain it to me differently so I could. He would also for me if an emergency happened in the weekend. He is very kind and got to know us as a couple.... He explained our results from test, samples, and work ups. Told us the percentages and the options. He let us decide how aggressive we wanted to be and what our financial availability was. We decided to try injections first and he explained how the process would work.
This is a very busy clinic [Women's Specialty & Fertility Center] there isn’t another near by, the biggest weakness is the long wait. Also some of the staff is rough when the so ultrasounds. Strength is they are friendly and remember you. They are available on the phone to help if you can’t make it to the office.... The normal person I had was very friendly and gentle but when I had the nurse practitioner or another dr they were rough

Then I wanted to try IUI again he explained everything we went with that because of the cost. The outcome was no pregnancy. Then we decided to try ivf he went with us the steps and procedure. We have used all our eggs retrieved from the retrieval and had two positive pregnancy that ended in miscarriages.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Synn is very upfront about your fertility and the odds that you will get pregnant. He will answer any questions you have and be honest. Dr. Synn took the time to explain what problems I had developed with my fallopian tubes due to a past accident/disease I had. He didn't beat around the bush or try to convince me to do other treatments just to get money. He suggested I go straight to IVF.... During my consultation with Dr. Synn, he wanted to know every issue I have had and anything in my past that could have caused my infertility.
This clinic [Women's Specialty & Fertility Ctr] is very clean and the receptionists are able to answer a lot of questions and help get you in as soon as possible or work with your schedule. They block time during certain days for certain treatments so you hopefully don't have to wait weeks in between appointments based on your treatments. The clinic is located right next to a hospital so if you are having surgery, everything is within walking distance and they can assist you at the hospital.
How was your experience with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
During my consultation with Dr. Synn, he wanted to know every issue I have had and anything in my past that could have caused my infertility. When I told him about an accident I had as a 5 year old where I later developed an extensive case of Peritonitis, due to malpractice from the doctor treating me at that time, he showed concern that I could be having infertility issues due to that. He scheduled me to do numerous tests to check my reproductive system. When those were showing good signs, he still suspected there could be more to the story. I did several more ultrasounds, and we decided to do a surgery to remove what looked like cysts. During the surgery, Dr. Synn found that it was not cysts, but abscesses that had developed within mounds of scar tissue wrapped around my reproductive organs. He removed as much of the scar tissue as he could. That is where he saw that my fallopian tubes are severely damaged from the Peritonitis. After my surgery, he explained everything he saw and showed me pictures. This is when he was honest and told me my odds of getting pregnant naturally are below 1%. He suggested I don't waste my money with pills or injections any more and try IVF. I am currently getting ready to do IVF in the next month.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?

My insurance covered most of the costs for my blood work, reproductive tests, prescriptions, and surgery. However, my insurance does not cover any costs once diagnosed as "infertile." I had to pay out of pocket for clomid and ultrasounds, and will now pay out of pocket for IVF as well. Dr. Synn offers Care Credit so I can make interest free payments on my bills.

I felt that Dr. Synn was just there to do the consults and initial treatment but that you were just passed off to the nurses there who handled the ultrasounds and iui procedures. It felt like you were just a number there and he only treated the patients who had more expensive procedures.... There was not necessarily a strategy but all options were laid out and our chances with each. We could not afford to do an ivf or ivf with egg donor cycle so we opted to do an iui. The plan was to do follistim injections for 6-7 days then a trigger shot
I felt that they [Women's Specialty & Fert Ctr] had so many women coming through the clinic that it felt like they were just trying to get you in and out as quickly as possible.... The clinic's biggest weakness is that they are not well versed in insurance issues. If you have insurance then they make it so much more difficult to use it. Two different times they were supposed to start my insurance approval and forgot.... They incorrectly called in the wrong amount of menopur
How was your experience with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Be aware that the results you want may not be possible but don't let them talk you into an ivf or more drastic procedures if you can't afford it.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
I felt that they had so many women coming through the clinic that it felt like they were just trying to get you in and out as quickly as possible.
Describe the protocols Michael Synn (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
There was not necessarily a strategy but all options were laid out and our chances with each. We could not afford to do an ivf or ivf with egg donor cycle so we opted to do an iui. The plan was to do follistim injections for 6-7 days then a trigger shot and the iui. When I received my medication order it had changed to follistim and menopur for 6-7 days then the trigger shot. The rationale was that by doing both medications it might help me release more eggs. They also had me start progesterone pills after the procedure. They said it would help support a baby and help my uterus after the medications/procedure.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Ashley)
Ashley did all of my ultrasounds and iui procedures. She showed immense compassion when we had a hiccup before the last procedure. She also fully explained the results of my husband's seven sample.
Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The clinic's biggest weakness is that they are not well versed in insurance issues. If you have insurance then they make it so much more difficult to use it. Two different times they were supposed to start my insurance approval and forgot. It wasn't until I called a few days later to check up that they finally started it. It seemed to me that most women who go there pay cash price for everything including medications so when someone comes in with insurance they are not as on top of it. There was also an example of when they tried to charge me full price for an iui procedure when it was supposed to go through my insurance first.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
The costs of medication were roughly $2,500 each cycle. I do not have the approximate cost of the ultrasounds/procedures yet because they haven't completed billing with my insurance.
What specific things went wrong at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Lost paperwork
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
They incorrectly called in the wrong amount of menopur for me during the first cycle of iui with them. They also failed on two occasions to get approval through my insurance which required me to wait almost a month longer than I should have to start my first iui. I also had to advocate for myself to my insurance multiple times when I was told by my insurance that your doctor's office should really be advocating for you. Overall, the procedures are stressful enough and it didn't help with all of the added stress which was partly caused by the clinic.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Our initial visit, he [Dr. Synn] was very informative but minimally compassionate. I was crying and no one even offered a tissue. Our follow up appointment he was very brief and when he told us my husband had a relapse of azoospermia, he quickly suggested donor sperm.... We have male factor with low count and motility. We started with 1 cycle of Clomid and natural. BFN. Then moved to IUI, using Clomid to stim and Ovidrel to trigger. BFN. We just completed IVF, stim using gonal-f, menopur only once and cetrotide only 2 doses. Triggered with Novarel and ovidrel. We had 7 eggs, 6 mature and 3 embryos.
Strengths [Women's Specialty & Fertility Ctr] are the nurses organization and knowledge of the process. Weaknesses are long wait times, limited phone answering hours, and not having you assigned to a designated nurse/doctor the whole time... There was a delay in communication with my specialty pharmacy, which caused me to receive my meds 2 days late. They had to figure everything out at the last minute, but there was a month between my consult appt and our cycle, so I felt it could have been better managed.
How was your experience with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Our initial visit, he was very informative but minimally compassionate. I was crying and no one even offered a tissue. Our follow up appointment he was very brief and when he told us my husband had a relapse of azoospermia, he quickly suggested donor sperm. We requested to see the other doctor there, which we ended up seeing but his schedule was more limited. We ended up with Synn again for our IVF consult, and he did a much better job at laying out the details and a answering our questions. He did not do any of my ultrasounds, or egg retrieval or embryo transfer, but he did make our phone call to let us know the progress of our embryos and schedule it. We would have preferred to have more consistency with which doctor we were seeing
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Have your questions ready, and don’t be timid to ask them. Be prepared for long wait times.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Once the doctors were in the room, they did a decent job of communicating information, however their time with you was brief and the wait times were long

We did have some insurance coverage. Each ultrasound was about $200. Our meds would have been $6,300...however we only had to pay co-pays totaling $520. We had to give $7300 in deposits for the procedures, awaiting insurance coverage on that. Anesthesia was $375
Describe Michael Synn (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
We were told from the beginning that a singleton is better odds and it is not the goal of the clinic to do multiples. Yet, on our transfer day, Dr Sueldo (male) came in and said “so we’re putting in two”? We were very confused. We had not discussed that at all. We ended up just doing the one.

Dr. Synn is incredible always gave myself and my husband attention it was never just about me. Very calm and never rushed us during any appointment. We both really enjoyed him! ...every encounter with him was genuine and caring. We had a whole page of questions and he sat with us letting us ask every single one without rushing us. Even if we thought it was a silly question he answered it. I do wish from day one we would’ve went with Dr. Synn, he didn’t do our first two IUI’s and he did our third along with our IVF from start to finish.
The whole facility and staff at WSFC is incredible, during infertility treatments it is already a stressful time and they always made me feel welcome!...They are always busy.. Also waiting for the instructions after ultrasounds or anything I'd suggest just getting a phone call later or having them email it to you...Incredible, every single office staff was incredible from the front staff to the back staff. We never had a single complaint about the staff!
How was your experience with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr. Synn is incredible always gave myself and my husband attention it was never just about me. Very calm and never rushed us during any appointment. We both really enjoyed him! One time during my last IUI my husband was getting a little light headed and Dr. Synn brought him in a chair and had the girls get him some juice. He is a very easy going guy and I feel like he is such a positive doctor in the situations that infertility brings up, the good and the bad. I don’t have anything bad to say about Dr. Synn every encounter with him was genuine and caring. He just always seems happy to help and seems to really enjoy is job and being with us when we are with him, we always appreciated his time.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Ask for him from the get go! We started with the other doctor in the office without doing research on either one, and Dr. Synn is just more personable than the other doctor

Describe the protocols Michael Synn (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I feel my protocol was pretty standard. For the IUI our first one we used clomid, our second two we used gonal-f. For our IVF we used gonal-f, menopur, endometrin, progesterone and cetrotide. Everything went great and looked great, I think when we do future IVF cycles I will make the point of focusing on quality over quantity to see if there is a different protocol for that.

Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
They are always busy, there were times where my appt would be at 10am and I wouldn't get seen in the room until 10:30 so make sure you have time to spend. Also waiting for the instructions after ultrasounds or anything I'd suggest just getting a phone call later or having them email it to you. I once waited for 45 minutes then was told "we can email it to you later if you don't want to wait" which since I was missing work I would've done that from the get go. Just silly little things but seriously overall they are incredible!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
From all our treatments of 2017 we spent $26,000 and change
Describe Michael Synn (OB/GYN)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
We only ended with two 5 day embryos, my doctor suggested transferring only one and before that phone call my husband and I had agreed on transferring only one as well. So it was an easy conversation to have.

He was very thorough, which I appreciated. He was kind and compassionate yet gave us the facts in a way we could understand. My only complaint is that I felt like once we miscarried he made us feel as though it was no big deal, we'll just do it again. However, we don't have the funds t do it again so it was beyond a big deal to us. Even if we did have the funds to do it again, I still feel like he could have treated our miscarriage with more care so we weren't so hurt.
The nursing staff [at Women's Specialty and Fertility Center] was amazing. Caring, compassionate, thorough... Everything you want in nursing staff. They were kind and explained everything in detail so that we understood and answered all questions we had.... Very nice and clean clinic. Up to date technology, well organized, and kind staff. The office is ran like a well oiled machine and you feel like a human not a number. The nursing staff is especially amazing.

I mostly felt like a human with him, especially in the beginning and throughout the treatments. However, when we found out I miscarried, I felt as if he was too casual about it, like it was no big deal. It was hurtful.
Describe the protocols Michael Synn (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I'm not sure of our protocol or exact dosages but we used gonal f and menopur. We had to use the menopur because a few of my follicles were getting too big. We also did two trigger shots (one in my stomach and one in my hip) before egg retrieval.

Dr. Synn is a very soft spoken caring RE.... I met with him each appointment however, I did not have my ultrasounds/scans or procedures (IUI) performed by him, which was not to my liking. In my eyes, I feel that he is the scientist and mathematician trying to determine the individuals’ cycle patterns in order to plan treatment. His staff then performs most out-patient procedures/treatments based around his recommendations.
I liked that the office [Women's Specialty and Fertility] was located in a building next to Clovis Community Hospital, where major procedures and his dileveries are performed. Also there’s a lab next door he uses for samples. His clinic is a very clean facility.... [Nursing Staff] Sweet ladies, they loved my humor! They try really hard to make sure the patient is comfortable.... each ultrasound ran $100 once I started clomid and Insurance stopped covering certain fertility treatments.
How was your experience with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr. Synn is a reputable RE. I immediately felt trust toward his planning and treatment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Personally I feel that this is all chance. It’s about math (getting the numbers right) and you may get lucky. If you want it bad enough, you’ll keep gambling! And I’m not giving up, and you shouldn’t either!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr. Synn is a very soft spoken caring RE. As it was my 1st attempt with treatment, I was nervous, and he lifted the stress by stating, “...I do not want you to worry anymore...stop the obsessive charting...it’s time for you to relax and let me take on the stress...”
Describe the protocols Michael Synn (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Started with him discontinuing my current methods of cycle charting to alleviate any stress. Next, 100mg clomid for 5 days (In various treatments, the start date would be adjusted as no pregnancy had occurred.) Also, throughout treatment I was introduced to estrogen, progesterone suppository , ovaldrill shots (to essientially try and control ovulation timing) and IUI. RESULTS: HIVES: allergic to one or a combination of meds being used, clomid gave my tongue blisters, progesterone capsules were red and would leak from being used like a suppository (always thought it was blood..don’t freak out it was the pills casings!) Over 6-7 clomid rounds, with 1 IUI attempt. (Dr. Synn did not perform the IUI, I was upset.) Resulting in me needing to take a break from treatment and regain my sanity!
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
Sweet ladies, they loved my humor! They try really hard to make sure the patient is comfortable. (Companionate)
Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
I liked that the office was located in a building next to Clovis Community Hospital, where major procedures and his dileveries are performed. Also there’s a lab next door he uses for samples. His clinic is a very clean facility. And a ait times are semi-bearable for appointments!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
I have insurance that was wonky about coverage. For me, copays for appointments were $15, like anywhere else. Yet, each ultrasound ran $100 once I started clomid and Insurance stopped covering certain fertility treatments. (By the way there’s a lot of ultrasounds when trying to observe eggs growing to the correct mm to then self enduce ovulation, with the ovadrill shot). I can’t remember how much the IUI cost, but I remember thinking, “...hmm, that’s not so bad for one shot at it...” Clomid ran me $30 each refill..not bad..and again I can’t really remember how much I paid for estrogen patches and progesterone. The Ovadrill shot each cycle would cost $120 and is NOT covered my insurance and was mailed from Texas.

Over the 7 and a half years we were seen and treated by Dr. Synn, not only were we blessed with our twins, we also formed wonderful relationships with Dr. Synn and some of his staff!... Dr. Synn is one of those doctors that knows all about his area of expertise, he's been around to see many patients and many different scenarios...so he really REALLY knows what he's talking about... But unlike so many of those special doctors that knows so much
Because we have not been there [Women's Specialty & Fertility Center] in a few years, it's hard to say what is the same and what is different now. I have heard from others about new staff and Dr. Synn having shorter hours in the clinic, then he did before... Dr. Synn and his staff were there for us and got us through to the other side of, what we thought for a while was, an impossible journey.... they felt like family. They knew all about what we were going through, in probably the toughest years of our lives.
How was your experience with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Dr. Synn is one of those doctors that knows all about his area of expertise, he's been around to see many patients and many different scenarios...so he really REALLY knows what he's talking about... But unlike so many of those special doctors that knows so much...he has an AMAZING bedside manner!!! That is what really surprised us when first meeting him. He cares and he wants success for YOUR fertility journey. On one occasion, after a transfer, I ended up getting a horrible UTI. It was so bad, I could not get out of bed. At 3 o'clock in the morning, my husband called his exchange and he called right back and got meds to me asap! It was so comforting to know someone (a doctor!) was there for me when I really needed it. Another thing that really sticks out throughout our journey, was that after our failed IVF cycles, Dr. Synn would personally call and check on us... I couldn't be more grateful for these calls. If we didn't feel the way we do about Dr. Synn and his staff, we would not have continued to emotionally, physically and/or financially put ourselves through all of that heartache and pain for seven and a half years.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Document everything...you'll want to look back at your triumph!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Synn (OB/GYN) at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center?
Over the 7 and a half years we were seen and treated by Dr. Synn, not only were we blessed with our twins, we also formed wonderful relationships with Dr. Synn and some of his staff! We love them and think of them fondly. We were always treated as people...as important people! We are so grateful to have met and worked with Dr. Synn and all of the girls who were there during our time there.

I'm sorry, I can't remember specifics...
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
During our time at Dr. Synn's office, we absolutely fell in love with all of the girls there! Kim, Jessica, Sandra, Hilary, Missy, Tulea... (I'm sure I'm missing a couple 😣) were so much more than "nursing staff"...they felt like family. They knew all about what we were going through, in probably the toughest years of our lives. And they didn't take that lightly. They always had compassion...and they were always our loudest cheerleaders! If, and when, they needed to call with disappointing news, I always felt like that phone call was just as hard for them, as it was for us. They took the journey with us... We still take our twins in to visit and say hello to all of their "aunties"
Describe your experience with Women's Specialty & Fertility Center.
Because we have not been there in a few years, it's hard to say what is the same and what is different now. I have heard from others about new staff and Dr. Synn having shorter hours in the clinic, then he did before... I've also heard about longer wait times and shorter, more "impersonal" visits. So, I'm not too sure about things now. But what I can say is that Dr. Synn and his staff were there for us and got us through to the other side of, what we thought for a while was, an impossible journey. He told us it was a numbers game and if we were able to stick with it, it would work...and it did. I truly hope the office is still running the way it did, back then, for us.
