Dr. Eblen has always treated us both with the utmost in care and compassion. She is straight-forward and honest, but also extremely personable and gentle...One hurdle for my wife and me, being Christians, was respect for and protection of the lives embodied in the embryos. Giving us the option to implant a single embryo instead of "going with the numbers" and attempting multiple allowed us to proceed with this form of treatment.
We actually did all of the monitoring with our local endocrinologist, Dr. Michael Doody. The results were conveyed to [Nashville Fertility Center]. We had to do some blood work at Nashville, but it was not the usual monitoring...[cost] everything was made very clear to us BEFORE we started working with Dr. Eblen and the Nashville Fertility Clinic. There were no surprises.
How was your experience with Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center?
Dr. Eblen is a seasoned professional, and we could tell that immediately. She gave us ample information, but also translated information into both knowledge and action. She is not only an excellent doctor, she is a considerate and compassionate human being.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center?
Come with your own questions, listen intently, don't be afraid to ask a question, repeat a question, or ask her to repeat an answer. She wants to make absolutely sure you know everything you need to know.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center?
Dr. Eblen has always treated us both with the utmost in care and compassion. She is straight-forward and honest, but also extremely personable and gentle. A rare combination among many doctors.
Describe the protocols Abby Eblen used in your cycles at Nashville Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We were interested in embryo adoption, so it's a little different than the usual IVF process, but she went over medical/hormonal treatments, the implantation plan and schedule, honest odds of a successful pregnancy, and when our first attempt failed, a plan of action moving forward. (Unfortunately, our second attempt has been interrupted by the Covid-19 epidemic, but we are going back to continue when we can.)
Describe your experience with your nurse at Nashville Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Can't remember - mostly worked with my wife.)
Everyone at the Nashville Fertility Center with whom we interacted was very, very kind, compassionate, and professional. (Sometimes felt more like talking with a friend than someone at a "doctor's office"!)
Describe your experience with Nashville Fertility Center.
To be honest, the toughest thing with working with them was just navigating the city of Nashville! We're from Knoxville, so the traffic was a bit thicker than we're used to. Once we parked and entered the hospital, everything was a pleasure.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Nashville Fertility Center.
We actually did all of the monitoring with our local endocrinologist, Dr. Michael Doody. The results were conveyed to Nashville. We had to do some blood work at Nashville, but it was not the usual monitoring.

Dr. Eblen is very nice, informative, and always has a positive attitude. She takes time to answer any questions you may have and will reassure you that if plan a doesn't work out, then we will try different plans after that. I would recommend her to any of my friends and family...we moved on to 3 rounds of IUI. Unfortunately, those didn't work either. We took a break for our mental and emotional health. We just recently started back with Dr. Eblen to proceed with Embryo Adoption.
There really aren't any weaknesses the [Nashville Fertility Center] clinic has. They did get a new office, which is an improvement from the old one because it's bigger and newer. It's always nice, neat, and clean as well. The new office is conveniently located by the elevators and they have a nice, big sign outside of their door...Dr. Eblen and her staff treat you like family and are very informative. They have great bedside manner as well.

Describe the protocols Abby Eblen used in your cycles at Nashville Fertility Center and their degree of success.
When we first started seeing Dr. Eblen, she treated us as a couple. We started with different tests to find out why we couldn't conceive and then moved on to treatments. We started we oral medications to try to get me to ovulate and after about 3 rounds, we moved on to injectables. After that failed, we moved on to 3 rounds of IUI. Unfortunately, those didn't work either. We took a break for our mental and emotional health. We just recently started back with Dr. Eblen to proceed with Embryo Adoption.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center.
I think we spent over $8,000 when we were Dr. Eblen the first time. This time that we are with her for the embryo transfer, we are expected to pay close to $10,000 or more.
Describe Abby Eblen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nashville Fertility Center.
Dr. Eblen strongly suggests transferring one embryo at a time to prevent multiple. We have not gotten to the transfer part yet.
Dr. Eblen understands that infertility is stressful and is empathetic. ... I always feel like Dr. Eblen is making the best decisions for me regarding my treatment plan. She was realistic about expected outcomes. Although she has a positive outlook, she doesn't build your hopes up. She is direct and intelligent. I had a variety of exams and tests to make sure PCOS was the only issue causing my infertility yet.
NFC is very organized and I feel like there is a good system in place, especially for those going through IVF. I feel as tough the doctors and nurses are knowledgeable and I don't question their decisions in my treatment plan. ... My nurse Laurie was excellent at communicating what was expected and gave me written schedules on what do do. I am already an organized person, so I'm thankful for her attention to detail as well!

Trust the process and treatment plan that she has for you. Don't waste too much time on IUI or medicated timed intercourse cycles before considering IVF. Although the cost is high, it is the quickest way to pregnancy.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center?
Dr. Eblen understands that infertility is stressful and is empathetic. She makes sure all my questions are answered and is super smart.
Describe the protocols Abby Eblen used in your cycles at Nashville Fertility Center and their degree of success.
For IUI, the process was simple and I took letrozole to produce more follicles. That process was the same each of the three times I did it. For IVF, I had two cycles and chose to do PGS testing on the embryos. I had 4 embryos from the first egg retrieval, but none of them came back normal. I am young, so they thought this was bad luck. The next cycle my medication was tweaked and I was put on supplements to help with egg quality. That round I had 3 normal embryos out of 4, so I'm thankful they adjusted things for me. I haven't had the embryo transfer yet, but will in just a couple of weeks.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center.
My egg retrieval including all monitoring visits leading up to it, anesthesia, and PGS testing was $13,870 (not including medications). PGS testing is optional, but definitely worth the peace of mind. The embryo transfer including monitoring visits (not including medications) was $3,980. They bill you before egg retrieval and then again before the embryo transfer. That was nice so I don't have to pay everything up front and get refunded later if we didn't get to the embryo transfer.
Describe Abby Eblen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nashville Fertility Center.
Since my embryos are PGS tested and normal, she advises only transferring one at a time. Due to the risk of twins, I think this is a good option.
I really like Dr. Eblen. She communicates well although quickly. She’s very busy, but she will make time to answer all your questions. She’s kind and sympathetic. I like that she was much more aggressive in treatments than my previous doctor which is important because of my age. What I don’t like about Dr. Eblen is that she moves a bit too quickly because she’s so busy. I also don’t like that she does not perform the IUIs herself
This is a big clinic [Nashville Fertility Center], you’re not going to get as much doctor time as a smaller clinic. I don’t mind this, but I think it’s personal preference. If you prefer seeing your doctor at every appt. this is not the place for you. I do get to ask all my questions when I meet with Dr. Eblen and I’m always able to call the nurses line if I have more questions. They always call me back.... The ultrasounds are $190 I believe, blood tests were around $100, the IUI process including my husband’s sperm washing is around $500

Describe the protocols Abby Eblen used in your cycles at Nashville Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I started IUIs immediately with Dr. Eblen because my last doctor spent too much time on just clomid & femara and timed intercourse. I started last March the first IUI, I switched doctors as I was taking the last round of clomid with my last doctor so we tried the IUI then. It did not work. Dr. Eblen changed my medication to an increased dose of femara and injection of ovidrel. The second IUI worked, but resulted in miscarriage. We tried a third IUI with the same procedure and it did not work. We are trying one more time with the same protocols and then reevaluating things if it does not work again.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Nashville Fertility Center.
Most of the nurses are great, very kind and compassionate and informative. Of course there are some that are not as compassionate and not as personable.

I can always get my questions answered and any information I want. For how big the clinic is I surprising do not ever have to wait a long time at appointments.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center.
Unfortunately our insurance does not cover any costs related to fertility. The ultrasounds are $190 I believe, blood tests were around $100, the IUI process including my husband’s sperm washing is around $500
Dr. Eblen is super sweet. She listens to every statement or question that you ask. You can tell that she is compassionate about helping people get pregnant. She explains in detail in a way that you can clearly understand... She educated us that they only transfer one single embryo that has the best chance of survival. I prefer a single embryo over multiple.
I felt like a human because the staff [at Nashville Fertility Center] are super friendly. Every time I got emotional due to diagnosis they comforted me. They were hopeful for me. I love that when you walk in they immediately greet you and give you a wrist band. They also have christian values which are important to me.

She did a transvaginal ultrasound to look at my uterus, ovaries and follicles. She then felt because my periods are regular that doing IUI without medication assistant was best.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Nashville Fertility Center.
The nursing staff are all very friendly and informative. However, sometimes the communication between themselves could use improvement. I also think they should make it easier to contact them for payments etc. Besides that this is an awesome clinic and I refer everyone to them.

the clinics strengths: friendly, informative, compassionate, knowledgeable and caring. They love what they do and you can tell.

In person, she [Dr. Eblen] was wonderful. While you didn't see her often, she was kind, attentive, and listened. Her bedside manner was perfect. Once I had multiple failures, she truly wanted to help and keep going, but I felt like there was a laundry list of things we could try, but nothing that actually seemed to be based on MY case. Just lots of "well, this exists so let's try it..."... I do wish I had gotten more time with her. As a function of the clinic, you're kind of passed around which feels impersonal and mechanical. This wasn't her fault, but it did get in the way of building full trust in my doctor.
Nashville Fertility Center is a beautiful facility, with a great staff. The doctors/nurses/scientists get together every week to discuss the cases, which I loved. I really felt the camaraderie among the staff was palpable. I didn't like that you didn't know who was doing your procedures. While I certainly don't blame the various docs for cycle failures, every doctor was so different, and it felt inconsistent.
How was your experience with Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center?
Dr. Eblen was a great doctor. While I didn't see her much, I enjoyed the time I spent with her, and felt she was incredibly informative. Her initial consult was thorough, personal, and enlightening.

I wasn't very responsive during the first round, so the second retrieval was far more aggressive (and helped!), resulting in 5 more eggs being retrieved. She also kept close watch on my progesterone levels post transfer, and adjust as necessary.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Nashville Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Tina)
Tina was my primary contact, and she was the best nurse I could have ever asked for! Caring, organized, patient, kind. She was the most incredible part of the process by far, always taking the very best care of me. She answered all our questions, kept us calm, and provided thorough education every step of the way.

Costs for 2 retrievals, 3 transfers, PGS, monitoring, (and meds, not through the clinic) cost around $35k
Describe Abby Eblen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nashville Fertility Center.
We elected to do a single transfer for the first round, as we had lots of reason to believe it would work. The second round, we transferred one as that was all we had left. Third transfer was single, as it was PGS tested.
Dr. Eblen is a warm and personable doctor. She took the time to explain my abnormal anatomy and was open to helping me get pregnant. She was limited in the knowledge of my abnormality which is expected since it’s rare. She did a fantastic job in removing my polyps. However, she failed to warn me about a medicine side effect before my surgery. I feel like she could have done more research in order to help me since my situation was unique.
Long waiting times [at Nashville Fert Ctr]. The nurses and NPs were not warm nor helpful with resources. Phone calls with nurses did not explained the medicine purpose....The front staff were not welcoming nor warm. It was a challenge to connect with the friendly surgery coordinator, since she was so busy. One of the backup ultrasound techs commented on my disability which was inappropriate...The nursing staff were always busy and not always engaging....

I did the all the tests such as genetic test, blood test for hormones and thyroid, hysterosalpingogram, sonohysterography, ultrasounds, and MRI. I learned i have MTHFR mutation. They also found polyps which were removed. The first two cycles, I took Clomid and did timed intercourse. The 4 IUIs - took clomid and then femera on days 5-7, then trigger shot if follicle and lining were the right measurements, and next day was intrauterine insemination.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Nashville Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Kelly)
The nursing staff were always busy and not always engaging. They tried to be gentle during test and procedures. They tended to forget about preparing the assigned nurse due to my unique anatomy which led to prolonged and sometimes painful procedures. I had to start reminding them to warn the nurses ahead of time.
Describe your experience with Nashville Fertility Center.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center.
My insurance covered the tests, most of the medicines, and 50% of the fertility treatments after I met my deductible. The IUIs were several hundreds dollars and husband sperm wash was not covered so it was around $400.

At my hysterosalpingogram, they did not fully informed the staff of my uterine abnormality which he called Dr. Eblen since he didn’t believe me. This delayed the test and he was not prepared.
Dr. Eblen did not inform me of the potential bleeding from taking misoprostol for a surgery.
She [Dr Abby Eblen] removed a uterine polyp and said that it was the reason we were not getting pregnant. She then ordered 2 IUIs that were unsuccessful with Clomid. She did not additional testing after the first failed iui....Dr. Eblen is very straight forward. She is so busy that there is very little time for her to answer questions. the IUI procedures are performed by the nurses and you rarely will see the dr.
Strengths [of Nashville Fertility Center]: Multiple Drs, so easier to get an appointment, after hours attention, act quickly Weaknesses : LBGT unfriendly, I had friends who were treated poorly, don't always run all the necessary tests to find the real reason. assembly line.

Dr. Eblan was nice and thorough, but Nashville Fertility Clinic is very much an assembly line. The front desk, phlebotomist, and Ultra-Sound Tech act totally annoyed if you ask any questions.

I switched clinics after a same sex couple was treated rudely by the Nashville Fertility Staff. At my second opinion dr, i was given a totally different diagnosis that the NFC and Dr. Eblen did not even test for. I wasted $3000 on medication and treatment with NFC that would never work.
Dr. Eblen was always very personable and upfront about next steps. It was always a delight to meet with her - even when my unexplained secondary fertility issues drug on....Dr. Eblen was always fantastic - she was very knowledgeable, personable and I looked forward to meeting with her during the long journey to have my second child. Over a span of 5 years and 15 cycles, I spent a lot of time going to and from this office [Nashville Fertility Center]. You will have to ask the questions and be an informed patient. Also, while I think this office does truly care about patient success and building families, you have to cut through the doctor speak sometimes....The biggest complaint I had was the constant turnover of nursing staff as well as different staff being responsible for different days. So Tuesday you might talk to one nurse and then on Thursday you'd have to explain all over again to that day's nurse. Would be MUCH MORE conducive to patient relations and overall success rates, to have a consistent nurse to talk with each cycle.

I started with Clomid cycles and was able to conceive my daughter on the 1st IUI.
I repeated the Clomid cycles 2-3 years later without success, did several rounds of injectible stimulation drugs + IUIs with no success. Finally, I did one IVF cycle - however at a different clinic out of state because the cost was much less.

I learned that I had to stay on top of whatever I needed each cycle. Again, the nurses changed from day-to-day so from 2005-2011 when I was a patient there, I learned that I had to call with specific instructions, questions, etc in order to have the proper medications.
Abby Eblen is a detailed doctor that is attentive to my needs, she was confident in her diagnoses...showed empathy when it was necessary...very respectful and thoughtful. The nurse staff was nice but at times. I felt like, I was being judged because of my age and my husband had a vasectomy. It has made it a little difficult but one time i asked one the nurses does people get pregnant pass 40 years of age and she said yes, all the time but it would've been nice if, she would've told me own her own. It would've made me feel comfortable.

Describe Abby Eblen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nashville Fertility Center.
My doctor did encourage me to use supplements to help me build my system to prepare my self for the procedure.
I only see Dr. Eblen when a trial has failed. I can’t put the blame solely on her. The clinic is overrun with patients. I only see Dr. Eblen when a trial has failed. I can’t put the blame solely on her. The clinic is overrun with patients. Unfortunately this means that the care I’ve received makes me feel more like a number.

I haven’t experienced all this clinic has to give, but what I do know is that their goal is to get you pregnant, and they’ll do whatever they can to try and make that happen. There is a little bit of a lack of empathy and personal touch but they have so many patients, it’s hard to expect them to remember everything about you.

In total probably close to $5,000 including all visits and medication.

She [Dr. Abby Eblen] was able to answer some of our questions and did not try to push for another cycle after 7 failed cycles...I wish that I was able to speak with her more than just the nurses when it came to my treatment plans...I also wish that the procedures were more closely monitored carefully because I was an outlier who happened to suffer from a mild case of OHSS with low doses of follistim aq.
I’ve noticed my particular nurse [at Nashville Fertility Center] gets irritable with me easily and I wasn’t a big fan of that. However, she is definitely knowledgeable...The strengths I see in the clinic is changing the previous employees in the front desk because before they were very rude and had no smiles on their face...certain nurses go above and beyond to make you feel more comfortable in the environment especially with what most couples are experiencing in this hard time of conceiving.

I wish that I was able to speak with her more than just the nurses when it came to my treatment plans. However, I also wish that the procedures were more closely monitored carefully because I was an outlier who happened to suffer from a mild case of OHSS with low doses of follistim aq. This really frustrates me because it seems as I was then treated as a number than a paying patient, which really ticked my husband and I off completely.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Abby Eblen at Nashville Fertility Center?
Be prepared to ask many questions before ending a consult with her or you will be highly upset because you will not be seeing much of her but rather her nurse.

I was her [Dr. Abby Eblen] patient for over a year and I never really even saw her. We only spoke once, and she seemed very rushed...She seemed rushed, and she didn't act like the questions I had researched to ask her were important or interesting. She also never performed my IUIs...I did 4 IUIs. She suggested I do three and then start IVF, but I just wanted to make sure. None of them resulted in pregnancy.
The clinic's [Nashville Fertility Center] strength is that it is conveniently located in Nashville, where I live, and has a beautiful view from the waiting room. Its weaknesses are the rather creepy nursing staff, inattentive doctors, and lack of financial options that other Tennessee fertility clinics provide (such as pregnancy-or-your-money-back IVF).

Make the drive to Chattanooga and see Dr. Rink Murray instead. If that's not an option, then do your own homework because she will not explain or elaborate anything.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Nashville Fertility Center.
Three different nurses performed my IUIs, and one of those times took so long the nurse made me hold the catheter of my husband's sperm against my chest to "keep it warm." The fourth IUI was performed by a different doctor, a male. None of the IUIs worked. The nurses routinely did things like toss syringes across tables and seemed to have trouble making eye contact or small talk. It was all pretty weird.

I think she [Dr. Abby Eblen] is kind but honest. Caring but not a sugar-coater. Smart and reasonable. I appreciated her scientific approach also; not patronizing to me at all. She trusted me to understand what was going on and make good choices... Pretty standard ovarian stimulation and retrieval/transfer. One cycle we stopped as I didn’t have a great response and next time they added a small steroid dose which made a huge difference
I wish it was electronic records...so much paper all the time [at Nashville Fertility Center- Nashville]. They might be by now though. Appointment time meant little...if you were ready first they took you first during a cycle...which was ok with me bc I was working though!... Some of the staff were less able communicators but everyone is nice. My main nurse was a great communicator.

Describe Abby Eblen's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Nashville Fertility Center.
I had two transferred initially and got pregnant with twins. Miscarried at 16 weeks due to incompetent cervix (no way to have known this prior). Then they strongly recommended single embryo transfer
She [Dr. Elben] was available to answer all of my questions and create a game plan that didnt involve dragging everything out. She let me move onto IVF as I wanted....After being diagnosed with a low egg number, she decided we would do 2-3 IUI and then move onto IVF. She didn't want to waste time.... I felt like she genuinely cared and helped calm my worries. After the first treatments were unsuccessful, she changed me right to IVF instead of making me continue with the other.
It can be difficult to get a straight answer from the billing department [Nashville Fertility Center]. I had to call several times before I would get a phone call back. They did not tend to discuss my insurance coverage very well....Everyone [nursing staff] was always easy to get ahold of and answer any questions I might have had.... I saw Dr. Eblen for an initial consultation to discuss a process in how to get pregnant. Within 10 minutes she told me that I would not be able to have a child on my own and would need IVF without any tests to confirm. I did go to another doctor for a second opinion and I’m fact am now getting the tests and confirmation that is needed to determine the next steps. Being told on a first appointment with no recent information
Friendly [Nashville Fertility Center] staff and great patient experience. They provide you with a financial plan and options to help you along this journey. I recommend being very interested and involved in your plan and don’t just accept that you need IVF. If they try to send you down that path with no tests then please seek a second opinion.

She [Dr. Abby Eblen] talked very fast and assumed I understood all of the abbreviations and acronyms. I am not finished with my treatment and am still confused at each visit. She [Dr. Abby Eblen] talks fast but puts all the clinical lingo in legman's terms which I very much appreciate. She is a nice caring person who I trust and would recommend to anyone. I like the setup the office uses between Dr.'s, personal mailboxes, and IVF nurses. Nashville Fertility Center runs like a well oiled machine.
The clinic [Nashville Fertility Center] is great - you see the same people time after time and there are not ever any scheduling difficulties. The only 'con' is sometimes if you need to page your IVF nurse you might have to wait 10-20 minutes.... Every nurse, ultrasound tech, phlebotomist, receptionist, etc. is great. They all understand the clients they are seeing are there for help and hurting.
