[Dr. Abigail Mancuso] was very patient and kind, she let us talk and ask questions....went through the entire process from start to finish...do a mock cycle to see if they can get my uterine lining thick enough for transfer...never gave me the feeling that we should lose hope, but just start on plan B
[U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care] are positive, answer your questions and provide information...were warm and welcoming...frustrating but is really out of their hands is how far out they schedule...is clean, the people are really nice, and I never have felt uncomfortable there.
How was your experience with Abigail Mancuso at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care?
She was very patient and kind, she let us talk and ask questions. She went through the entire process from start to finish (egg donor companies they work with, my personal history, the results from the last transfers we had attempted, the plan of action going forward, billing). She also seemed very knowledgeable and I like that she knew about my rare autoimmune disease(s). I felt really comfortable with her and wasn't anxious about asking questions.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Abigail Mancuso at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care?
Schedule well ahead of time as she books out pretty far.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Abigail Mancuso at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care?
She took the time to review my previous history WITH my husband and I, explain results the previous clinic we worked with didn't review with us (ex: how thin my lining was) and then put together a plan for mock cycles, before we paid for anything, to make sure we could get the result we wanted (thick lining for embryo transfer). She was also familiar with my rare autoimmune disease which was really impressive to my husband and I. She took time to answer questions and never once made us feel rushed.
Describe the protocols Abigail Mancuso used in your cycles at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care and their degree of success.
Her course of action for myself was to do a mock cycle to see if they can get my uterine lining thick enough for transfer because apparently that was an issue the last couple of transfers I had. She had me start on estradiol orally and vaginally then come in for a lining check. When that didn't get us the results we wanted, she had me start on estrogen injections. She never gave me the feeling that we should lose hope, but just start on plan B. The process so far has been night and day different (in the BEST way) compared to the other clinic we worked with. They are positive, answer your questions and provide information we otherwise had to beg for at the other clinic.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care.
They were warm and welcoming. It's like they know how intimidating and scary the process is. They explained everything very thoroughly and never made me feel 'alone' when I was getting testing done. I was never scared to ask questions or for clarification on things. I enjoy working with them.
Describe your experience with U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care.
The only thing that's frustrating but is really out of their hands is how far out they schedule. We had our first appointment scheduled at the beginning of August but had to reschedule because we had Covid. We weren't able to get in again until October 31 which was really hard, especially since this process is so long anyway. But again - out of their hands. Overall, the clinic is clean, the people are really nice, and I never have felt uncomfortable there.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Abigail Mancuso at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care.
My insurance doesn't cover any infertility, so the cost is expensive. I believe with the donor eggs for a fresh cycle/transfer/etc. it was around 26k. We are still the middle of the process.
Describe Abigail Mancuso's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at U of Iowa Center for Advanced Reproductive Care.
Her approach at first would be to do a single transfer vs. multiple because of my underlying health conditions and not putting too much stress on my body. Although that's not what I want, I appreciate her insight because she's protecting my health. If I continue to have losses, we will revisit. She never completely ruled it out but more that we'd revisit later if needed.
