Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr nangia was completely dismissive to my concerns over DNA fragmentation, despite the latest research showing benefits to surgical sperm retrieval over ejaculated sperm for men with elevated DNA fragmentation...He was willing to continue my clomid to see if that would boost my sperm counts...It doesn’t appear he is very forward thinking with regard to research and his field. Male infertility is rapidly advancing and he doesn’t seem to be.
Had a hiccup with my clomid Rx and communicated with a [Kansas U Center] nurse via patient portal. She [wasn't] very unknowledgeable about clomid for male infertility, which struck me as concerning, given that it isn’t an obscure treatment...We are remote to the clinic, so we have had testing done at our local hospital. There have been a couple times where there were delays in getting transferred test results to the clinic
How was your experience with Ajay Nangia at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine?
I have low sperm counts and have issues with DNA fragmentation. Dr nangia was completely dismissive to my concerns over DNA fragmentation, despite the latest research showing benefits to surgical sperm retrieval over ejaculated sperm for men with elevated DNA fragmentation
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Ajay Nangia at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine?
It doesn’t appear he is very forward thinking with regard to research and his field. Male infertility is rapidly advancing and he doesn’t seem to be.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Ajay Nangia at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine?
He was rushed. I think he was behind that day. It’s also possible his nursing staff was insufficient that day.
Describe the protocols Ajay Nangia used in your cycles at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
He was willing to continue my clomid to see if that would boost my sperm counts. I’m scheduled for a follow up after that’s been given time to work.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
Looked like it was their first day. Not sure where things were. Had a hiccup with my clomid Rx and communicated with a nurse via patient portal. She was very unknowledgeable about clomid for male infertility, which struck me as concerning, given that it isn’t an obscure treatment.
Describe your experience with Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
The weakness is dr nangias approach. He doesn’t appear to be very up to date on research, or he’s so research skeptical that he’s not willing to treat until there’s overwhelming evidence for a course of action. Infertility is a rapidly advancing field, and that attitude will abandon patients. I was point blank told that my sperm weren’t the problem, that my wife’s eggs were (age). Given my dna fragmentation test results and the research associated with them, that simply isn’t the case. While my wife’s eggs are AN issue, it’s poor practice to ignore other potential problems.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Ajay Nangia at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
Pending. Should be covered by my insurance.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
We are remote to the clinic, so we have had testing done at our local hospital. There have been a couple times where there were delays in getting transferred test results to the clinic. This may be the fault of KU med’s medical records department however.

He [Dr. Ajay Nangia] is a reproductive urologist...was upfront about expectations of surgery and was always clear with us. He was genuinely excited for our journey...was our urologist who was helping with male factor infertility. He was straightforward and honest about what our expectations should be. He was open about us helping choose our treatment plan and let us be as involved as we wanted. He was also very honest about how the surgery wasn't 100% guaranteed and we may have to pursue other treatment options, which we did. It was nice that the expectation was set beforehand.
We did varicocele surgery [with Kansas University Center] per Dr. Nangia's recommendation for MFI. The surgery was less invasive due to the fact that he recommended surgery with Interventional Radiology. I was back to work the next day. Numbers improved, but IVF was still necessary...[nurses were] professional and kind. We didn't have a lot of interaction with the nursing staff. We saw Dr. Nangia at every appointment...

We did varicocele surgery per Dr. Nangia's recommendation for MFI. The surgery was less invasive due to the fact that he recommended surgery with Interventional Radiology. I was back to work the next day. Numbers improved, but IVF was still necessary. We are glad we tried the surgery first and would have always wondered if it would work.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
Everyone was professional and kind. We didn't have a lot of interaction with the nursing staff. We saw Dr. Nangia at every appointment.
Describe your experience with Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
I felt confident in my care at Dr. Nangia's office. The only weakness is the demand for appointments. Sometimes it took awhile for us to get in to see him as he is very busy. His staff would always return our phone calls and answer our questions quickly & thoroughly.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Ajay Nangia at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
The surgery was covered by our insurance minus our deductible. Office visits were also covered by our insurance with copays.
Describe Ajay Nangia's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kansas University Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine.
No comment. He is a reproductive urologist.
