I had a different nurse [at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center] most days for my blood draws, which was totally fine because they all stay in such great communication with each other. Nothing fell through the cracks, someone was always available to me (even after hours...I paid around $9700 to Reproductive Partners, and around $3100 for the medications...
How was your experience with Alexander Quaas at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center?
I had almost gone through a round of egg freezing at another clinic and cannot begin to describe my gratitude that I waited and found Dr. Quaas and Reproductive Partners despite that doctor also being very successful and well established within the field. I was definitely very certain that egg freezing was something I wanted to do, but I was also terrified of doing it. Dr. Quaas listened to all of my concerns and fears and broke down the entire process step by step. We talked about what my goals were and made a plan. I had more blood drawn the past two weeks than I have my entire life, I had never been on anesthesia before, and this was by far the most traumatizing thing that I've ever put my body through. Dr. Quaas was always clear about the risks and realistic about what could happen, but he was invested in me not just to get the best numbers and the best eggs but to make sure I felt supported and was as comfortable as possible through this. I feel like I won the lottery with both my results and the quality of my care.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alexander Quaas at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center?
I do think the choice of doctor is incredibly personal, but if you feel like you connect with him, I don't think you could ask for someone better to lead you through this journey.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Alexander Quaas at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center?
Dr. Quaas went above and beyond to make sure I was supported throughout the whole process, helping me overcome my fear of needles and shots and making sure I felt comfortable and taken care of throughout and after my retrieval. He always had time to answer any question, no matter how small, and was always present.
Describe the protocols Alexander Quaas used in your cycles at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We did the birth control protocol followed by nighttime shots of Menopur (75 IU each night) and Follistim (amount varied each night depending on my blood draws, but we started at 150 and went as low as 75 or none at all one night) with 50mg of Clomid.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Charlene)
The entire staff and nursing team was also extraordinary. I only met Charlene in person once (in part because of the holidays), but she was the person who called me each afternoon with my doses, responded to my emails and questions, and stayed on top of my case. I had a different nurse most days for my blood draws, which was totally fine because they all stay in such great communication with each other. Nothing fell through the cracks, someone was always available to me (even after hours -- I had to call the on-call doctor once, and that call was returned within 5 minutes), and each nurse just made me feel so comfortable and supported. I would definitely say that you need to stay on top of your case, your prescriptions, your body, etc., and be vocal if there was something you were told that you haven't seen happen, etc, but this whole team is really strong.

Everyone I interacted with was great. The facility is very clean and comfortable and up-to-date. For my retrieval, the blankets were even heated which again was just this small thing that made it more comfortable.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Alexander Quaas at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center.
I paid around $9700 to Reproductive Partners, and around $3100 for the medications. There are a few other smaller costs (I had to get a Covid test, a LabCorp bill, the anesthesiologist, etc) that were in the $300 range.

The nursing staff really shine at RP. They are warm, professional, kind, and helpful. Our coordinator Amy Nelson was awesome. She is professional, patient, attentive, organized, and caring. We always had great communication and received prompt replies. We almost always had a good experience with Dr. Quaas. He explained all the risks and possible outcomes. He was empathic about our recent losses. He gave us hope about conceiving but did not oversell a guarantee of success. He was frank and honest about our chances of conceiving. On one appointment, he seemed a little distracted and less attentive, but it did not affect our views of him. His personality is upbeat and funny which helps when going through a stressful process like IVF.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alexander Quaas at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center?
Write down questions, ask a lot of questions, ask what is everything in the process means, like what is a good FSH or AMH level.

Dr. Quaas treated both my husband and I with respect. He explained all protocols and procedures and allowed us to ask as many questions as needed. He was available by phone and his nurse, Amy, was available by phone and email. Amy was an excellent coordinator. She was attentive, professional, and caring. We always received a prompt response when we emailed on left a message.

The receptionists are not very warm or welcoming. They don't smile very often or greet you warmly. They always appear busy with work on the computer or the phone or both. It is not a major issue for us, but it is something we noticed. Don't let it discourage you from the rest of the wonderful nursing staff and doctors.

I loved working with Dr. Quaas and Reproductive Partners. I liked that I saw Dr. Quaas every ultrasound visit and he personally performed the ultrasound. I felt like he was open to trying different things and tailoring a treatment plan to me. I never felt like our visits were rushed and he spent hours discussing our care. We really liked that he is involved in the scientific community and evidence based research. He was fairly responsive to emails...We tried a maximum-dose stimulation protocol for our first egg retrieval, used max doses of Menopur, Gonal-F, HGH, clomid, and dexamethasone, used an antagonist and dual HCG/lupron trigger. The second cycle we tried a lower dose stimulation as I was worried that the high doses caused diminished egg quality. We used 300 units Menopur, HGH, clomid, and dexamethasone with an antagonist and dual trigger. Neither cycles were successful unfortunately, as we think my egg quality is poor.
the earliest ultrasound appointments were at 8 AM [at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center], although the wait times were usually very short. The nurses would normally call around 3-6 PM to adjust any doses. There is an affiliated pharmacy in the hospital where you can get all your medications. The lab is also in the hospital. A weakness of the lab would be that they do not currently do Zymot, PICSI, or time-lapse embryoscope...I primarily worked with Amy [nurse], who was great through the whole process. She always called in my medications promptly. We mostly communicated through the online portal system, and she usually responded within 1-2 days. My only complaint was that she was frequently out of the office, making communication with her difficult via e-mail and phone, although other nurses were usually available to answer any questions.

Excellent staff, including the billing department, which really saved us when they told us we would need to change our insurance to Cigna at the last minute. They have been great dealing with our insurance claims. Early morning visits could start earlier to accomodate the work day, as the earliest ultrasound appointments were at 8 AM, although the wait times were usually very short. The nurses would normally call around 3-6 PM to adjust any doses. There is an affiliated pharmacy in the hospital where you can get all your medications. The lab is also in the hospital. A weakness of the lab would be that they do not currently do Zymot, PICSI, or time-lapse embryoscope.

All of our claims have still not been processed. With insurance, we only had to pay $300 upfront for embryo co-culture.

Dr. Quaas and the clinic as a whole only does frozen embryo transfers. They will not do day 3 or fresh transfers. He strongly believes in blastocyst FET.

I can't remember the protocol name. Nut the first step was determining my peak fertility, then I was on Estrace for one month. Then injections started. My injections were menopur and follistium. I then took two lupor trigger injections before the egg retrieval. I don't remember the exact dosages but I know Dr. Quaas kept them low because I am so young he didn't wan't to hyper-stimulate me. He paid close attention during my stimulation to make sure that didn't happen. I have only got to the egg retrieval and am waiting to do a frozen transfer.

Many times the exam rooms had dust bunnies, the walls had gouges in them from doors opening into them or trash cans scraping them. It was not well cared for...[nurse] Amy was wonderful and very compassionate. We loved her!

Dr Quaas was such a wonderful RE for us, even though we didn’t get pregnant. He found issues our previous RE overlooked, was so kind and warm at every step, and clearly set expectations. We had a long shot at successful IVF with my numbers, and he clearly explained we may not be successful, but he wanted to try for us. We were not successful with him or this clinic, because they practice traditional IVF, and my body ended up needing mini IVF to produce embryos. Dr Quaas and his partners do not believe in mini IVF, so after my treatment failed, they recommended donor embryos. I left Dr Quaas to try a mini IVF cycle, and am now pregnant from that cycle at a mini IVF clinic with Dr. Chang at Hanabusa. I loved Dr Quaas, but it would have been nice if he had a better understanding of mini IVF- if I hadn’t researched and advocated for myself, I wouldn’t be pregnant today.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Alexander Quaas at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center?
If your cycle fails because of high FSH, know you can likely still produce embryos with mini IVF.

We were shocked to find the clinic (in La Jolla!) was run down. Many times the exam rooms had dust bunnies, the walls had gouges in them from doors opening into them or trash cans scraping them. It was not well cared for. I had a few appointments at the end of the hall in a room that felt like a storage or ‘junk’ room. I was so surprised that the clinic wasn’t more beautiful, spacious, or well-cared for.

I don’t remember the exact costs, but it was my most expensive cycle I paid for out of all three REs I saw.

Our total costs for 2 egg retrievals including genetic testing and medications was roughly $45,000 before insurance reimbursement. The clinic was out of network and the treatments occurred during 2 different calendar years which increased our net cost slightly.

The clinic [Reproductive Partners] got busy every once in a while, but nothing crazy. Most visits were right on time! The schedule was very flexible & I never had trouble getting in at a good time. Everyone was very helpful & always greeting you with a smile....I knew right away after meeting Dr. Quaas and his nurse Amy that I was in wonderful hands and I would bring home a baby one day thanks to them.

I would recommend him to anyone needing his services without hesitation. As much as I am glad to be done with my IVF treatment thanks to his great care & treatment plan, I will miss him and his staff!

The clinic got busy every once in a while, but nothing crazy. Most visits were right on time! The schedule was very flexible & I never had trouble getting in at a good time. Everyone was very helpful & always greeting you with a smile.

Roughly 13k for retrieval process, about 10k+ for retrieval and transfer meds, 5k for various PGS testing and other costs

My POC (plan of care) was based on a general population of women, not designed for me as an individual.

I began with birth control for month and a half, moving on to injections. There were several categories of injections. During this time I was also have transvaginal ultrasounds. Leading up to the point of egg meets sperm. I know this may be vague but not a great memory because it had a heartbreaking ending.

Before my first appointment, I was incredibly scared. We began the appointment by just talking and I felt at ease very quickly. He was very honest but tactful. He seemed concerned about my overall health and not just my reproductive status....He's a native of Germany so be prepared for some cultural differences. This was not a problem for me, but for some it might be....I had a transvaginal ultrasound to check for abnormalities in anatomy. I had three rounds of 100mg clomiphene with a Novarel injection. On the third round, he performed an intrauterine insemination that was successful. After blood tests confirmed pregnancy, I was given supplemental progesterone in the form of vaginal suppositories.
All of the nurses at this clinic are friendly, courteous, and compassionate....I was mailed a price list after scheduling my initial appointment. My total cost, not including medication, was about $2,000. My IUI cost $400. I don't remember the individual costs for office visits and ultrasound exams....I had a transvaginal ultrasound to check for abnormalities in anatomy. The nurses did not pay any attention to my chart before they would do the IUIs. So Everytime I'd have to wait extra and then one of the doctors would actually come do it because they couldn't just take two seconds to look at the chart.

My husband seemed to be comfortable there. I thought the nurses would try to move too quickly between patients and the clinic felt private when I was being seen. The waiting was never too terrible and they handled my bill properly. The way the gave medicine was weird but I don't have another clinic to compare that too.

Our insurance covered 75% of the IUIs. Because of the way they did they're prescriptions we paid out of pocket for all the shots about$125 a piece. And insurance covered clomid and famara.

I took Letrozole starting at the lowest dosage in October and worked up to the highest dosage by March. We did trigger injections and timed intercourse. I didn't get pregnant, so in March we decided to do the IUI. I found out I was pregnant in April.

The first cycle was hard because it's the cue that they are able to tweak and make sure to know what will be needed for next time. Take Femara CD3 to 7 then HCG injection around CD14. He has us call on CD3 1 or positive hpt. Not success yet but have found the right doses needed to make my cycle move along as "normal"

If I had to call with CD14 they are always sympathetic and patient when preparing for the next cycle. They always explain thing they know the Dr. may have missed.

[Dr. Alexander Quaas was] Not a very encouraging physician. Seemed more interested in getting me to get treatment there and adding me to their case numbers. I tried to tell him that fertility in the 40's ran in my family, but he seemed to totally disregard that...We did not undergo treatment with them.
[Reproductive Partners Fertility Center has a] Huge network. They have IVF coordinators, financiers, and lots of office staff ready and willing to get you into treatment and take your money...many hidden fees...About 200 dollar consult that they didn't bother to tell me insurance could have possibly covered it.

I ended up working with another physician who is absolutely amazing and I did end up getting pregnant on my own. It would have been nice if he could have acknowledged the fact that actually happens.

Go somewhere else. Unless you have lots of time to waste and a bottomless pocketbook.

He presented statistics that showed me getting pregnant on my own after 40 was pretty much near impossible. Never mind I had a strong family history of it. He just seemed interested in going the treatment route.

I only went for a consultation. It was enough for me to realize I did not want to seek treatment there.

Huge network. They have IVF coordinators, financiers, and lots of office staff ready and willing to get you into treatment and take your money. I know lots of other patients wrote they were upset about the many hidden fees they had.

About 200 dollar consult that they didn't bother to tell me insurance could have possibly covered it.

We then added Letrozole, and we were pregnant...He always takes the time to stop and speak with me personally everytime I am at the office. Even if it's for blood labs and not a scheduled appointment with him, he'll come to the lab to say hello...He is kind and patient with my questions. He treats me like an individual, not just a patient. We were successful in pregnancy our 2nd timed intercourse cycle with him, however that pregnancy ended in miscarriage. He was so sweet and gentle with explaining our loss. I truly appreciated that during such a delicate and emotional situation. We are getting ready to try again, and I know that he will help us be successful again.
They [Reproductive Partners Fertility Center] are open every day of the year, which is wonderful with how quickly ovulation comes and goes. The front desk staff, billing, and nursing staff are all very professional, well educated in fertility, and welcoming. Since we're currently awaiting the donor to complete her cycles, we're unsure of the next steps after that. We have not covered the IVF process in great detail.

I have had 3 IUI's thus far, I am currently awaiting the results of the third one. We tried clomid on the first round, upon realizing my lining wasn't thickening enough, they changed me to letrizole. I had strong reactions to the clomid so I was thrilled to change. My lining thickened as was intended and we decided to use a trigger shot the next two times to pin point my ovulation. The over the counter tests weren't giving the correct results, based on low results in my blood.

All of the nursing staff has been exceptional. hey are all very warm, compassionate and caring.

You also need to make sure you have a good amount of time for meetings with him - you could end up with a 30 minute conversation about soccer ;-) ... He really comes off like he wants to get to know you. He will engage with my husband about sports and things that make him feel included and talked to as well.
What i love is that every person - even billing, and the people who take your blood - seem to know what’s going on in your case and asks about how your feeling or how a specific drug or process is going. Everyone [Reproductive Partners Fertility Center] makes you feel cared about, and taken care of. Our nurse coordinator is awesome. Super compassionate, easy to get a hold of, fields questions with ease, and will spend time explaining things.

He lets us ask whatever question we have, and genuinely seems to take interest in helping when we have questions on things. He’s quirky but extremely friendly, caring. And seems to really want to get to know his patients. He regularly spends time with us, even if we don’t have a scheduled appointment - for example if we are in for a blood draw - he will stop and chat with us. He engages on things to get to know us as people and a couple, and makes us feel like be really wants to help us grow our family.

Very low dose stimulation for the retrieval because of my previous cycle getting so many eggs, but we still got a lot of eggs. We used I think 75 of menopur and 50 of gonal-f but I can’t totally remember. Also used a steroid, and baby aspirin and a z-pack before. For the transfer, estrogen patches, progesterone in oil, a few days of steroid and a few days of antibiotics but I didn’t take them per a recommendation for my specific case.

The office isn’t huge, and we love that. We also love that we see our doctor for every scan and procedure. The nursing staff is on point with knowing your case and being compassionate and interested. You feel like a person, not a walking dollar sign. Even the billing and Insurance departments are super helpful and nice. The biggest weakness is honestly the parking lot. It’s not fun and I’m scared I’ll hit someone. Also, they could use some more pictures and things on the walls. On one hand - you feel like the pictures of Kids and things are genuine, and the offices with no pictures are there and money is spent elsewhere. On the other hand, it could make some of the rooms feel a little less clinical with a picture or two

Dr. Quaas cared about not only my IVF cycle (hormone levels, follicle development, eggs retrieved), but also how I was feeling and doing during the process. He reassured me when I was nervous and he helped me feel as calm and comfortable with the process as possible. He is genuinely warm and caring, and I am grateful for him!
Describe the protocols Alexander Quaas used in your cycles at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I can't remember the specific protocols used. I remember we talked a lot about using injectable hormones to try to get one follicle to ovulate versus going straight to IVF. He explained his rational for recommending going straight to IVF by explaining that it would be very difficult for someone with my ovarian reserve to ovulate a single follicle with injectable drugs, and it would likely take a lot of trial and error to titrate the dose.

Amy is simply the best! She is very kind and knowledgable. I genuinely enjoyed going to the clinic to see her and felt supported by her at every step of our IVF process.

My insurance luckily covered a big chunk of IVF costs, so I payed a copay for every ultrasound and 20% of drug costs. Retrieval procedure cost another $2500 or so.

After consultation a schedule was made and after starting hormone shots, bloodwork was done every day to monitor levels and progress. US was done every few days up until trigger shots and retrieval, all scheduled within my busy work schedule!!
