Ask questions!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Allison Bloom at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic)?
It is clear from the first meeting with Dr. Bloom that she is energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate about her work. She seeks out my thoughts and questions about proposed treatments and never hesitates to elaborate or take extra time explain the next steps.

I had some insurance coverage. Out of pocket I have spent over $3,000 in 4 months.
How competent was Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic) at LGBTQ+ care?
The office staff is mostly knowledgeable, there have been a few times I’ve been offered a cup for a donation to bring in for an IUI when I would think it’s clearly marked that we’re using donor gametes.
Describe your experience using 3rd party reproduction (donor eggs, donor sperm, or gestational carrier) at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
They have a donor sperm coordinator who is fantastic and a great asset to their team.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
I had one last minute appointment scheduled that I was completely forgotten about. It was a busy day in the office. I did not end up going back to that location. I have had the wrong lab work sent for blood tests. And I had one instance of an rx not being called in on a weekend that I had to resolve with the on call doctor.
The first appointment [Dr. Allison Bloom] was great...transfer I had by Dr. Bloom was horribly painful she said “your cerix is back” and spent 5-10 min pecking the catheter against my uterus...very combative and very overly confident...medicated cycle...omnitrope for my egg retrievals
When I had a blighted ovum/ early loss and needed a d+e to remove the pregnancy product (tissues), [Main Line Fertility] did this while I was awake...embryologist gave us our embryos when we left their clinic and he just picked them up out of the tank and was like it’s fine...wait 30-45 min for a monitoring appt
How was your experience with Allison Bloom at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic)?
The first appointment she was great. Making so many promises and just kept saying “let’s get you pregnant”. The transfer I had by Dr. Bloom was horribly painful she said “your cerix is back” and spent 5-10 min pecking the catheter against my uterus (I could see it on the screen) and she finally got it in. They don’t do mock embryo trials at this clinic so she had no idea that my uterus is retroverted. After the failed transfer she explained her wife had many fails and miscarriages (she also said her and her wife didn’t do pgt testing, which is something she pushed for me to do which made it confusing since her and her wife finally had success). She was very combative and very overly confident after I told her I was upset about my failed transfer. She said at the end of the day I have a list of fails and list of successes. And they are similar in numbers (their success rate for pgt testing claims to be over 60% percent so those lists should not be even).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Allison Bloom at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic)?
She comes off very kind and will charm you. You will then learn she is stretched too thin and need an ego check and needs more training. If you tell her you are in pain she will tell you no you aren’t.

It’s a factory in both the Havertown and Brynmawr office. They want to pack in as many patients as they can and sell as made add on services as they can that have no research to back them up like the ERA.
Describe the protocols Allison Bloom used in your cycles at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic) and their degree of success.
She did a medicated cycle. She did suggest omnitrope for my egg retrievals. I did get 5 pgt tested normals embryos but out of those 5 none of them resulted in a pregnancy.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
Maureen was amazing. The other nurses just wanted to do their jobs and leave.
Describe your experience with Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
They will sell you era and all the add ons. They spend money on getting interviews and getting best doctors lists with the money they made from the add ons that don’t have research to back them up. I’m sure they were great at one point but they aren’t trust worthy and I don’t believe they are research based. Also every doctor has different methods they like-based on opinion, not on research. It gets confusing in the support group because some people are like well my doctor did this or mine doesn’t use lupron. It’s very hard and confusing to know if you are getting opinions or research based care. After 5 total pgt tested embryos that never resulted in our baby we changed labs/ clinics created new embryos and my 1st transfer worked at the new clinic with new embryos. I’m now 13 weeks and I cannot believe I wasted 2 years at Main Line Fertility. Grateful for where I’m at today though.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
When I had a blighted ovum/ early loss and needed a d+e to remove the pregnancy product (tissues), they did this while I was awake. It was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever experienced. They sucked out the tissses with a vacuum like contraption. They said I didn’t need to be sedated since I wasn’t very far along when I had the loss. I was screaming at the top of my lungs during it.
The embryologist gave us our embryos when we left their clinic and he just picked them up out of the tank and was like it’s fine! He didn’t seem to care and lacked complete focus when handling our embryos. Probably why so many people don’t have successful transfers or why their patients have so many unexplained early losses.
Also the clinic lacks organization. I think their outcomes speak for themselves. Some people find success here but I don’t think they follow a protocol and system that guarantees more people success.
She [Dr. Allison Bloom] has the perfect mix of compassion, empathy, humor, realism, and optimism, and she always met me where I was. My retrievals did not go as expected, and she was tireless in trying new protocols and encouraging me that we would figure something out, while also checking in on my mental health and reminding me that it was okay to take a break...Any time that I had a question or needed to talk to her, I got a call back the same day.

How was your experience with Allison Bloom at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic)?
I truly can't say enough good things about Dr. Bloom. My husband and I traveled ~5 hours to see her and would do it again in a heartbeat (and will eventually, since we want more than one child). We transferred to Main Line Fertility after a disappointing first clinic experience, and she instantly put our minds at ease. She has the perfect mix of compassion, empathy, humor, realism, and optimism, and she always met me where I was. My retrievals did not go as expected, and she was tireless in trying new protocols and encouraging me that we would figure something out, while also checking in on my mental health and reminding me that it was okay to take a break. She was open to my questions and ideas about different protocols, and thoroughly explained what we were doing (and why) every step of the way. When I got disappointing retrieval results, she called to follow up with me the same day and shared my disappointment. And when I finally got good news from a retrieval, she called me with the news herself. Any time that I had a question or needed to talk to her, I got a call back the same day. I always felt calmer and reassured after talking to her, and have taken a lot of comfort in this bumpy ride knowing that I was in such good hands with her.

Dr. Bloom really took the time to get to know me and my husband from our very first appointment. She talked to us about our family size goals and made her recommendations based on what we told her, which is not something our first RE did. Dr. Bloom always took the time to answer my questions and provide thorough explanations. She is extremely empathetic and optimistic, and I always felt that she was personally invested in our success.
Describe the protocols Allison Bloom used in your cycles at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic) and their degree of success.
First retrieval: 2 weeks of birth control suppression, antagonist protocol. 18 eggs retrieved, 11 mature. 9 conventional, 4 ICSI. 2 fertilized (both from conventional group). 1 day 5 blast, 0 PGT.
Second retrieval - microdose lupron + growth hormone. 10 days estrace priming, growth hormone priming (every day for 5 days), then growth hormone every other day during stims. 15 eggs retrieved, 15 mature. All conventional IVF. 3 fertilized, 2 day 6 blasts, 1 PGT normal.
Third retrieval - microdose lupron. 10 days estrace priming. 21 eggs retrieved, all ICSI. 9 mature, 2 fertilized, 2 day 6 blasts, 2 PGT normal.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
Every nurse that I encountered at Main Line Fertility was kind, caring, and seemed invested in my journey. They answered questions whenever I had them, returned calls quickly, and were endlessly encouraging. During one of my retrieval cycles, I had a family wedding out of town that I really wanted to attend. The nurse I had been seeing during monitoring went out of her way to make sure that my schedule could be adjusted to make it to the wedding and keep my retrieval on track. I appreciate how much they recognize that we have lives outside of the intense treatment schedule, and try to accommodate that as much as possible. I felt like they celebrated my successes with me and were there for me with empathy and compassion when things didn't go as planned.

Main Line Fertility is a wonderful clinic. Everyone I met, from the front desk to the OR to billing was welcoming, caring, and compassionate. I never had to wait long for appointments, they almost always had early morning monitoring appointments available, and they had great Covid protocols that made me feel very safe. The clinic is bright and welcoming, with lots of messages of encouragement. They use paper charts which was surprising at first, but it didn't negative impact their efficiency at all (I have heard they're transitioning to an electronic medical record). If anything, it was nice to have the clinicians focused on me rather than their computers.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Allison Bloom at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
I was very lucky to have excellent insurance that covered the majority of the cost of treatment after I met a $7,500 OOP max. I paid $2,500 for each batch of embryos that we sent for genetic testing, and a $500 anesthesia fee for each retrieval. I also paid about $2,500 for growth hormone during the retrieval cycle that we used it, as it was not covered by insurance.
Describe Allison Bloom's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
We did not discuss the transfer of multiple embryos.
Dr. Bloom is straightforward without being blunt. She's compassionate without being too delicate- basically the perfect mix. When it became clear that I would have lining problems, she got creative and adjusted my protocol...She called me frequently with test results. The day she called with my beta, I could hear the happiness in her voice...
All of them are wonderful. I didn't have a negative experience with anyone. They all seem happy and caring...I honestly can't think of any weaknesses and I would recommend them to anyone. I have recommended them to several friends already. Having gone to two different clinics, I can easily see the differences between the two and my only regret is not going with Main Line right from the start.

Dr. Bloom genuinely cared about me. It was such a nice change from my previous clinic! She took the time to ask about my concerns and answer my many questions. She called me frequently with test results. The day she called with my beta, I could hear the happiness in her voice. One time at the office she called a different patient into her office and it was almost jarring- I had felt like I was her only patient and was almost surprised when it turns out she has lots of others!

It was night and day switching to Dr. Bloom. I never feel rushed and she lets me ask as many questions. She's caring, but also honest on expectations...I always feel better after talking with her. She personally calls me after every ultrasound (outside monitoring) and is always reassuring. She is super patient and I never feel rushed...I used menopur + follistim. We then used ganarelix to prevent ovulation. For transfer we did modified natural. We used letrozole, progesterone in oil, endometrin, estrace, Prednisone, lovenox...
The clinic [Main Line Fertility] isn't great, but I have heard good things about Dr. Brazille and Dr. Bloom. If it wasn't for them, I would leave. Mistakes were made and some Doctors there have some egos. I feel like you have to be on top of everything...Some [nurses] are super sweet and some I felt like were trying to get me off the phone when I had questions...If something isn't going right with the office or nurses being it up to Dr. Bloom...

How was your experience with Allison Bloom at Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic)?
At age 38, I was referred to Dr Allison Bloom for deeper dive into my fertility. From day 1, it was a total nightmare. I have fully normal menstrual history, average egg supply, hormone levels, and physiology. In our first consult, I told Dr. Bloom I had started trying with my partner and wanted to have two kids, so I wanted to make sure there were no issues with my fertility. She immediately told me I should start IVF ASAP and started rapid-firing terrifying statistics about the low odds of getting pregnant during any given cycle, the percentage of decline in my fertility with each year, and I was shell-shocked and burst into tears. She condescendingly told me “hey, don’t cry! Come on! Don’t cry!” as if that would help.
The scare tactic worked and I started IVF with her right away. In every meeting she was rushed, distracted, and verbally misquoted my age, details about my health, or details about our fertility plan. To prepare for our first egg retrieval, we worked with a rotating cast of at least ten nurses who would share info back to Dr. Bloom for directions. We had decided to do frozen cycles to stockpiles embryos and in our first cycle we got one normal embryo. This was communicated to us through a lab technician with no context or understanding of our fertility plan or any sensitivity. We didn’t know if one embryo was good news or bad, and when we finally met with Dr. Bloom a week later, she was extremely defensive about being asked to meet and insisted we hadn’t scheduled properly and that she had “other patients who needed her attention.” When we asked for her medical perspective given the outcome of cycle 1, she accused us of having unrealistic expectations, said that she “had told us this wouldn’t be easy,” and made reference to my “advanced age and low ovarian reserve,” which were not an actual response to what we were asking.
She said that 1 normal embryo was good news, so despite how rude she was being, we decided maybe she was a good doctor and we should just stick it out with her. On our next cycle, we got zero embryos. This time, the follow up meeting was more of the same, but much worse. She insisted she did not have time for our scheduled meeting and had other patients waiting. Her only medical response to the outcome was to repeatedly name and blame my age, egg supply, egg quality, and general fertility, and once again accuse of having unrealistic expectations, offering no actual insights or encouragement. She also mentioned that we should consider adoption, donor eggs, or other means of building our family.
My partner and I were appalled. We got two second opinions—one from another doctor at Main Line, and one from another fertility specialist—and the meetings were like night and day. Both new doctors were thoughtful, considerate, and optimistic about our options. The both said “as I’m sure your doctor told you, we always say that one cycle does not predict another.” We had in fact been told the opposite. Both doctors questioned the protocol Dr. Bloom had used and were quite optimistic about the possibility of other protocols, or simply other batches of eggs, being more successful.
We changed doctors and practices to one where a doctor actually paid attention to our specific cycle history, and our new doctor found critical things Dr. Bloom had overlooked: my eggs were not low quality, but they needed an extra day to mature before retrieval. Egg immaturity was something I had specifically asked Dr. Bloom about after our failed cycle, and she had dismissed it defensively. My new doctor paid close attention to this for every following cycle, creating a custom protocol to keep my eggs inside one extra day. My new doctor also learned that my partner had DNA fragmentation, which could be the root cause of our challenge in previous cycle—NOT my eggs or age, as Dr. Bloom had constantly told us. DNA fragmentation was pretty easily addressed, and with our new doctor, we had 2 normal embryos in our first cycle and one normal in our second cycle.
Working with our new doctor and actually feeling cared for and paid attention, and getting better results, to has made me realize how truly inappropriate and inept Dr. Bloom was in her treatment of us. I’m sharing this review so that if anyone else experiences the same treatment, they know that there is something much better out there. I would never, ever recommend anyone see Dr. Bloom.

Describe your experience with Main Line Fertility (Prelude Network clinic).
This clinic is like a factory--too many patients, doctors, nurses, coordinators for anyone to know or care who you are or specialize anything to your needs. You rarely see your actual doctor, they're so busy it takes forever to schedule, different nurses every time, and you're always calling into an automated thing instead talking to an actual person. They outsource medication management so there is even another step and endless calls coordinating getting your Rxs, making it harder instead of easier.

In every meeting Dr. Allison Bloom was rushed, distracted, and verbally misquoted my age, details about my health, or details about our fertility plan. She was extremely defensive in our meetings, dismissive of our questions, and insisted we hadn’t scheduled properly and that she had “other patients who needed her attention.” When we asked for her medical perspective given the outcome following each cycle, she accused us of having unrealistic expectations, said that she “had told us this wouldn’t be easy,” and made reference to my “advanced age and low ovarian reserve,” which were not an actual response to what we were asking.
Dr. Bloom overlooked key aspects of our fertility needs. She labeled my eggs "low quality" based on lab results of 2 cycles, but they actually needed an extra day to mature before retrieval, and the clomid protocol she selected was not effective. Egg immaturity was something I had specifically asked Dr. Bloom about after our failed cycle, and she had dismissed it defensively. After changing practices, my new doctor paid close attention to this for every following cycle, creating a custom protocol to keep my eggs inside one extra day. This made a huge difference in results--from 1 blast and 0 blasts w Dr. Bloom to 2 blasts and 1 blast with new doctor.
Dr. Bloom also failed to notice that my partner had DNA fragmentation, which could be the root cause of our challenge in previous cycle—NOT my eggs or age, as Dr. Bloom had constantly told us. With our new doctor, DNA fragmentation was pretty easily addressed, and with we had 2 normal embryos in our first cycle and one normal in our second cycle. This was after Dr. Bloom had directly told us to start considering donor eggs or adoption.
