How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr Hurliman was extremely thorough and seemed to be very up to date on the latest research and ideas. She tailored the the plan specifically to us, and was always thinking two steps ahead, meaning we knew what was coming next and the various paths out treatment course might take depending upon how things went. These were always communicated clearly to us, which was very helpful for me for managing expectations. Further, our treatment outcome was exactly what she predicted it would be. She is very direct in her communication and doesn't sugarcoat things. That doesn't mean that she is uncaring, but certainly it is something I would advise potential patients to take into consideration when selecting a doctor if that style doesn't fit them.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Take what she says as face value: she is very open, honest, and straightforward in her assessment and how she communicates things.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr Hurliman took a lot of time to go over all the details of our treatment plan and it felt like the plan she was coming up with was tailored specifically to us, and not just a standard protocol used for every patient. She also took the time to ask how things were going in our lives and remembered details about us as people.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
First cycle attempt was cancelled on day 5 due to poor response (natural start antagonist). Second cycle was an estrogen prime antagonist, which ultimately resulted in one PGS normal embryo was was transferred and resulted in a singleton live birth.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon.
We had two nurse coordinators. The first was extremely uncommunicative, dropped the ball once, and was hard to get a hold of and I know other patients were having similar experiences. We were with her for our first attempt and then were switched to another coordinator who was fantastic, always on top of things, and easy to communicate with. I don't know if our first coordinator is still with the clinic or not
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The clinic has high success rates, which I think are partly due to their ability to do very individualized protocols and the quality of their lab. You'll see your doctor for many of your visits but not necessarily all. However, all of the doctors we saw were great so there were no concerns there. The main drawback with ORM is the price. It is expensive and they do not participate in any shared risk or refund programs
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Retrieval with PGS testing and transfer ~20K, meds 8-10K
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Dr Hurliman strongly recommends single embryo transfer of PGS normal embryos, at least in my age bracket at the time (under 35)

Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
This was related to our first nursing coordinator that did not call us back with information that would have helped us decide how we would move forward with the cycle in a timely manner. After we switched coordinators there were no more issues
I felt like she [Dr. Hurliman] never had time for me. During our last meeting to discuss the ERA/receptiva test I mentioned I hadn't had my period in two months. She was shocked and said "you are normally regular. aren't you?" I had to remind her I haven't had a regular cycle since coming off of birth control 2 years ago. I felt like she had no idea who she was talking to...She never explained why I was having trouble conceiving so I thought it was unexplained. It turns out I have PCOS, she just never told me...
[at ORM Fertility Oregon] Monitoring was based on their schedule, which does not work with certain jobs. Monitoring appointments were never on time, there would be a full waiting room and once you were in a room you waited even longer. They quickly did their ultrasound with little attention to detail...It is nearly impossible to speak to anyone on the phone. You wait on hold so long that the phone hangs up after 25 minutes so you have to try again....
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
She described everything as perfect or beautiful, which gave me false hope every time since all perfect and beautiful got me was 3 failed IUIs, a failed fresh transfer, and one chemical pregnancy from the FET. She never explained why I was having trouble conceiving so I thought it was unexplained. It turns out I have PCOS, she just never told me. I was told my bw was fine even though my AMH was 10. I had a ton of eggs (which she made it seem like that was a good thing). After a year in her care I had to ask her myself if I had PCOS, to which she responded yes. Why did she never bring this to my attention? During the few phone calls we had she always asked if I had any questions but it is hard to have any questions when she doesn't give you any information to form questions. She could never tell me why I constantly tested positive on the OPK when my follicle was no where near mature. She approved an IUI when my follicle was only 14 or 15mm. I had to have a meeting with HR with them saying sorry, this should have never been approved. She told me I tested positive on the receptiva test for inflammation but didn't explain what that meant, just that I needed another medication. I had to google what it meant instead of my own doctor explaining my test results.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Ask for another doctor. If you can't get a new doctor, advocate for yourself. Google your symptoms to ask her if that is your issue. Have a list of broad questions since she never guides the conversation.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?

Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
Basic egg retrieval protocol (menopur, gonal-f, ganirelix, HCG trigger shot). Produced 32 eggs, 10 5-day blasts. For fresh and FET cycles she did 81MG Aspirin, 2MG Estrace (vaginal), 0.3ML Delestrogen, 50ML Progestrone in Sesame Oil PIO SO 1ml, 16MG Medrol, and100MG Doxycycline Hyclate. Fresh transfer resulted in failure to implant. FET resulted in a chemical pregnancy with two embryos. First beta was 309 and the second was 806. The bleeding started the day after the second beta.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Ellen)
Towards the end of my care ORM started using care coordinator texting so you could text them during the day to receive a faster response. Ellen was my care coordinator and she was nice during my year with her. The only thing I wish would have been different is when I called in concerned for a chemical pregnancy. She made it seem like it was probably a SCH or vanishing twin. I was never told it could be a chemical. When I had my SIS I wasn't told I needed a full bladder. When i had my ERA the staff didn't know if I had to show up 45 minutes early like a regular IVF procedure and no one knew if I could take pain medication.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
No one knows what is going on at this clinic. When I called in to report I tested positive on the OPK for my first IUI the receptionist told me they don't do IUIs the same month someone does their baseline ultrasound. I was also told my RE wrote in their notes that I had to take letrozole and since I hadn't taken it we couldn't proceed. My RE and I agreed to two natural cycles before moving on to a medicated cycle. HR heard about what happened and had to call to say sorry, that person was new and would go through a retraining session. We used donor sperm and were informed that one of the vials didn't have the amount it should have. They told us to fill out a form to get our money back from the sperm bank and to upload it to the patient portal. I did just that but never got my refund. They failed to inform me that I had to specifically send it to a certain department so that department didn't see it in time. It is nearly impossible to speak to anyone on the phone. You wait on hold so long that the phone hangs up after 25 minutes so you have to try again.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Monitoring was based on their schedule, which does not work with certain jobs. Monitoring appointments were never on time, there would be a full waiting room and once you were in a room you waited even longer. They quickly did their ultrasound with little attention to detail.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Billing is always late, as expected. We had to pay upfront for the egg retrieval and fresh transfer, about $20,000.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
She strongly suggested one embryo for the fresh transfer and approved two embryos for the FET.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Don't expect to know your actual diagnosis unless you specifically ask about it. My PCOS diagnosis was withheld from me and I would have wanted to test my embryos since PCOS can result in lower quality eggs. I was advised by my RE to not test my age simply due to my age. My expectations were not managed correctly because I assumed unexplained infertility was the issue.
I found Dr. Hurliman to be incredibly cold and unempathetic...When we discussed a second round with her, she gave no information on why the first round may have failed, or what we could change with our protocol if we did a second round...I never had a single in-person appointment with Dr. Hurliman. Every time I went in to ORM I saw a different random person....
In general everyone at ORM just seemed confused. Maybe it’s just a lot do new staff, or they are short staffed. Regardless the patient care model was very unimpressive. We would get different information depending on who we talked to. IVF is already a really complex thing and then to have staff that are confused was pretty frustrating...has several locations, so typically convenient to make it to all your appointments...
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
ORM seems to be the gold standard for fertility care in Portland. We assumed although it is the priciest, that we would also be receiving the best care. We regretfully were very wrong. I found Dr. Hurliman to be incredibly cold and unempathetic. Our round of egg retrieval was unsuccessful with no surviving embryos to transfer. When we discussed a second round with her, she gave no information on why the first round may have failed, or what we could change with our protocol if we did a second round. I got a second opinion from a different clinic, and after a 10 minute consult that doctor diagnosed me with endometriosis (something Dr. Hurliman never even brought up as a possibility). I recently had surgery to remove the endo and they found huge amounts all around my abdomen. When I asked Dr. Hurliman if endo could be effecting my fertility, she was unwilling to have much of a conversation about the topic and pretty much just said my only option is IVF. (Spoken like someone truly out to just make $$$). I would not recommend Dr. Hurliman or ORM for that matter to anyone. They function like a machine, churning and burning through patients
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Have a list of questions. She is not one to be forthright with info…. You have to really push. Get a second opinion! If you are someone who wants a relationship with a doctor and to feel like they are a partner in your infertility journey, I would look elsewhere
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I never had a single in-person appointment with Dr. Hurliman. Every time I went in to ORM I saw a different random person.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
We only did one round of egg retrieval with Dr. Hurliman. I don’t think she tailored the round to us really at all, just the standard, first round protocol.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
In general everyone at ORM just seemed confused. Maybe it’s just a lot do new staff, or they are short staffed. Regardless the patient care model was very unimpressive. We would get different information depending on who we talked to. IVF is already a really complex thing and then to have staff that are confused was pretty frustrating
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
ORM has several locations, so typically convenient to make it to all your appointments. Also they’re facilities are nice and new. Is it bad that’s literally the only good thing I can say about them? The staff is pretty cold in general, it’s impossible to call and talk with a real person (you always have to leave a vm for someone to call you back), the staff seemed untrained and confused about processes and timelines.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Genetic counseling at ORM was about $5,000 a person. EGG retrieval was about $6,000. When all was said and done we spent about $25,000 for one round of egg retrieval (no embryos made it to the genetic testing phase, and this didn’t include any of the medications)
What specific things went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Hurliman is extremely professional, but also very empathetic...She can occasionally run late for meetings, but I know for a fact it’s because she is taking extra time to make each patient feel understood and well equipped to make their next decision...[she] is not quick to push IVF as an only resort. In fact, she referred us to a top urologist that recommend corrective surgery to my husband’s varicocele at the same time we were gearing up to do IVF through the clinic
Strengths [at ORM Fertility]: wonderful staff, kind doctors, extensive experience. Multiple locations are also a plus. They are not pushy either, the patient portal is easy to use...The gal that did our blood work was a rockstar...Whoever answers the phone when I call is always very sweet and responsive...Weakness: long wait times, it took almost 2 months to get into our initial consultation
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Hurliman is extremely professional, but also very empathetic. Our first appointment was over the phone due to Covid, and she spent over an hour going through every question we could have, results we had brought in from outside testing, and things we had her to think of. I had done a lot of research on my own about IVF, but my husband had not- so whenever she used a term or abbreviation, she would pause and ask if we knew what it was our if she could explain it more. We had met with 2 other fertility clinics, and neither had even bothered to make sure my husband understood what was actually going on. She can occasionally run late for meetings, but I know for a fact it’s because she is taking extra time to make each patient feel understood and well equipped to make their next decision. She offers advice, but also is not quick to push IVF as an only resort. In fact, she referred us to a top urologist that recommend corrective surgery to my husband’s varicocele at the same time we were gearing up to do IVF through the clinic. When we met with her to discuss which route we should peruse, she told us to try surgery since she trusts this urologist and it must mean our chances are good. Mind you, this was supposed to be our meeting to decide a plan of action for our IVF medication, we were going to start injections that month. I think it speaks a lot to her character that she would not only try to help save us money, but also help me avoid going through IVF if possible.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Ask questions! She has answers for just about everything you would want to know, she is also a PCOS specialist, which is extremely important what so many doctors seem to incorrectly diagnose PCOS (this happened to us.) she will even take the extra time to research other problems she doesn’t know the answer to.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Their staff is very responsive and Dr. Hurliman is incredibly thorough in all her explanations. She makes sure my husband and I both understand everything we do, or plan to do.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
We did all preliminary testing through ORM, so she set up blood work and additional gene testing to screen for other genetic issues that’s could arise in our future children. We did not get to the IVF cycle, because we decided to try another route to fix our male factor infertility, and she also set up speed testing post surgery for him to see if we would like to do an IUI if the sperm respond post-op.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
The gal that did our blood work was a rockstar, the clinic has multiple locations, and one of them had a leak, and this nurse was all by herself just powering through patients. She was quick, efficient, and painless. Whoever answers the phone when I call is always very sweet and responsive, and while we were having trouble getting ahold of the scheduler at my husband’s urologist’s office, they even called twice as well to help get called back.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
Strengths: wonderful staff, kind doctors, extensive experience. Multiple locations are also a plus. They are not pushy either, the patient portal is easy to use, and they responsive.
Weakness: long wait times, it took almost 2 months to get into our initial consultation, but a lot of that is due to Covid.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Our IVF estimate with own egg and own sperm was roughly 32,000, but this also included embryo testing for 10 embryos.
Other blood work, vaginal ultrasounds, sperm testing and genetic testing totaled about 3,000 but our insurance covered a majority of it.
I can tell Dr. Hurliman is extremely knowledgeable...immediately detected an endometioma/endometriosis. Even thought I was frustrated that we couldn't move forward, I ended up being very grateful that Dr. Hurliman detected endometriosis- because for many women, the diagnoses is far more delayed with far more wasted treatment...Dr. Hurliman wouldn't move me forward with any other treatments until I consulted a surgeon & she recommended surgical removal for best chances
The doctors are strong, the nurses are strong [ORM Fertility]. But where the clinic falters is its communication and organization. ORM has really fallen with their patients without having coordinators. I rarely talk to the same person more than once. I rarely get ahold of a live person, usually having to be on hold for 15 minutes just to leave a voicemail. Their phone hours are limited and mostly when I can't make a call (I am a teacher). I don't know what other clinics are like to know if this is standard and other clinics are so backed up that I'll be sticking it out with ORM. I'm hoping it will get easier once I'm on their calender for IVF.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
We were referred to Dr. Hurliman by both my doctor and my fertility acupuncturist. We started out with the intention of doing IUI and did all testing prior. During my baselines, the nurse practioners kept noting cysts in my right ovary, month after month. I had 2 IUI cycles cancelled & one that was performed but without stim meds because of a cyst. I finally saw Dr. Hurliman in person and upon seeing my ovaries on the ultrasound in person, immediately detected an endometioma/endometriosis. Even thought I was frustrated that we couldn't move forward, I ended up being very grateful that Dr. Hurliman detected endometriosis- because for many women, the diagnoses is far more delayed with far more wasted treatment. Dr. Hurliman wouldn't move me forward with any other treatments until I consulted a surgeon & she recommended surgical removal for best chances. She provided excellent references. I am now working with Dr. Hurliman & ORM to do embryo banking this summer, then I'll be having surgery to excise the endometrioma/endometriosis, and then hopefully transferring in the fall. I can tell Dr. Hurliman is extremely knowledgeable. She could have sent me straight to IVF, but she instead referred me out to give me (hopefully) the best overall results.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Hurliman herself is great and knowledgeable. What I wish I had known was how hard it would be to deal with ORM (getting ahold of them, scheduling, not having case managers anymore) and actually feel like a person to the clinic and not just a number.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I am currently receiving care from Dr. Hurliman/ORM. I feel like it is less about Dr. Hurliman herself per say, but it is sometimes hard to feel like a human when interacting with ORM as a whole. I don't have a case manager. Every time I call to schedule an appointment, talk to the clinical team, or e-mail...it's always a different person- so no one there actually knows me. It's rare to talk to a live person on the phone, I always spend 10-15 minutes on hold just to leave a voicemail. From ORM's side as a whole, I feel like a number. On the couple of occasions that I've actually interacted with Dr. Hurliman, she brings the humanity portion back.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
Due to my cysts (which actually turned out to be endometriosis), I was only able to do 1 unmedicated IUI cycle out of 3 tries. The cycle we did do was unmedicated because one of my cysts was large enough to make my estradiol levels elevated, so Dr. Hurliman did not think it was responsible to use Clomid. Clomid was what I would have been on for the 2nd & 3rd IUI. When Dr. Hurliman detected endometriosis, she immediately nixed the Clomid and wouldn't allow stimulation until I did a pelvic MRI. The MRI confirmed Dr. Hurliman's opinion, I consulted a surgeon who deemed my endometrioma stable, and now I'm waiting to start an IVF egg retrieval in the summer.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Every nurse that I've talked to has been nice and knowledgeable. However, I've rarely talked to the same person more than once. It's always someone new that has to read over my chart.

I thankfully have insurance that covers my care with Dr. Hurliman
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
ORM highly recommends PGT-A testing of embryos, thus reducing the need to transfer multiple.
Working with Dr Hurliman has been fantastic. She is a clear communicator and up front with what I need to know. When Pandemic hit, it wasn’t a receptionist who called me, it was Amanda. She had a plan, options, direction during a time that is guaranteed to add stress. She’s always made me feel seen, heard, understood....I can to Dr Hurliman after 8 failed 8 IUIs elsewhere. While she was kind to not jump straight to an IVF recommendation, I knew I needed to consider it. I don’t have a partner to hash out scenarios with so she ran through the different decisions I had and was so patient while I decided
Allison is my care coordinator and I’m SO THANKFUL she’s on my team. She’s met every question with clear answers and great knowledge to support my needs. She’s responsive and helped me work through the many details.... They [ORM] are amazing. I highly recommend them. The clinic has a Warm atmosphere. Their staff are welcoming and kind with high levels of empathy and compassion. The space is modern and clean. They have a clear process and great flow in their work.

It’s been put on hold with the Covid Pandemic, but I am clear on next steps as the clinic prepares for reengaging patients.

Initial appointment was around $350. The rest is projected in the $15,000-$25,000 range.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
We are doing single embryo. It’s my preferred. But it’s also her practice for those in my position.
[Dr.] Amanda [Hurliman] is wonderful and warm. She helped us to conceive our first child and we have been working with her for the past year to conceive another child. We saw her for all but two appointments In that time frame and she always is kind, and warm. She cried with us when we had to terminate a pregnancy and was encouraging at the same time about future success. She’s just wonderful.
I think ORM is one of the best. It’s clean, nice and the staff that you meet in person seem to be very caring. I did feel like the Integrative Medicine Doctor was not always on the same page as my doctor which was confusing but I always referred to my doctor as she was the one managing my care. The atmosphere was always wonderful and welcoming and they were able to be very flexible with appointment times to meet my schedule

It would be to be patient and ask questions. Fertility is not always an easy process

Amanda was amazing. She was there for us every time there was a disappointing false pregnancy test and cried with us when we had to terminate a pregnancy that she helped us achieve. She always asked how I was and explained everything in the best manner possible.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
My first IUI was letrozole 5mg, resulted in pregnancy
Second IUI was letrozole 5mg, did not result in pregnancy
Third IUI was letrozole 5mg, ovulated on my own as one follicle dominated, did not result in pregnancy.
Fourth IUI was letrozole 7.5mg, did not result in pregnancy
Fifth IUI, 7.5mg letrozole, resulted in pregnancy that was terminated at 16 weeks due to chromosomal abnormalities.
IVF - antagonist good responder protocol. egg retrieval was cancelled on day 3 of meds because dominant ovaries were taking over.
Currently on OCP overlap protocol.

I wouldn’t consider this something wrong at all but the Integrative medicine specialist said i needed to have fewer than 2-4 drinks per week in the months leading up treatment and my doctor said if I wanted a beer a day that was fine.
[Dr. Hurliman] is very to the point but also allows you to feel and accept whatever news she has delivered. I have always felt respected and understood by her and she gives plenty of opportunities for you to ask clarifying questions. She is available through email or phone if needed...the clinic usually opts for one [transfer], but we had told them we wanted to do two. After we went through the tests and were making our calendar, we asked about two and she agreed willingly.
Everyone we interacted with [at ORM Fertility], from the front desk to phlebotomist to nurses were respectful, kind and compassionate. Always made sure we didn’t have any further questions, and if we did, were patient with us...They work very hard to get you in for appointments ASAP and at times that work for you. If your normal RE isn’t going to be in and you are scheduled for a test or results, they let you know ahead of time.

She doesn’t show a lot on her face. Which can be good but I watch people for reassurance, as well as listen to what words they’re using
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. H is very knowledgeable and understands that everyone’s situation is different. She has repeatedly taken the time to answer and questions, validate our feelings and reassure us when we need it.

I am an older mom and we tested my follicles and eggs. I didn’t have any to speak of. At the first appt we were given all options that the clinic provides so we had been discussing our options providing our results weren’t going to work naturally for us. She was supportive and honest
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Haley )
Amazing. Everyone we interacted with, from the front desk to phlebotomist to nurses were respectful, kind and compassionate. Always made sure we didn’t have any further questions, and if we did, were patient with us.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The only weakness I can say is it’s a 40 minute drive... 😊 BUT, it’s one we’re happy to make. They work very hard to get you in for appointments ASAP and at times that work for you. If your normal RE isn’t going to be in and you are scheduled for a test or results, they let you know ahead of time. Everything is crystal clear here.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
We had fertility coverage with our insurance so costs were very reasonable. Acupuncture day of transfer was $280 and not billed to insurance. Our cost at 20% for the actual transfer was $1188. The program we used was $5000 out of pocket to enter.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
We had been told that the clinic usually opts for one, but we had told them we wanted to do two. After we went through the tests and were making our calendar, we asked about two and she agreed willingly.
Amanda [Dr. Hurliman] prefers single embryo transfer vs multiple embryo transfer...She took her time to sit down and review my health history...was a good physician. We were honest about our options and financial situation. I was a little upset that she could not make any recommendation on my situation both about my health and financial situation that did not involve IVF treatments or give me names of Doctors I might be able to see due to my situation.
The clinic [ORM Fertility] as a whole seems somewhat uncoordinated. Their scheduling was very limited. Communications at times was difficult. The staff is very nice. Registering through their portal was very easy. It was nice for me to be able to upload my 100+ OB history to the portal...not notified until the day before my appointment that my insurance would not cover my visits. I was not given a reason why the insurance would not cover my visits.

I would not see Amanda if you are not looking to use IVF.

She took her time to sit down and review my health history.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Haley Swanson)
The office looked liked they has a good routine of handling patients. I was not impressed with the financial coordinator that reviewed my insurance. I as not notified until the day before my appointment that my insurance would not cover my visits. I was not given a reason why the insurance would not cover my visits. At times, the staff seemed uncoordinated. I got moved around to several different rooms in one visit and was misguided as to where I needed to go, resulting in almost missing a meeting with the coordinator before leaving an appointment. In one of my exams, the directions as to what I needed to do was unclear, as the nurse was too shy to directly explain what she needed me to do.

Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Amanda prefers single embryo transfer vs multiple embryo transfer
Didn't end up having any viable embryos [with Dr. Hurliman]...I felt like a human. Dr Hurliman did a good job of acknowledging my human emotions while still being frank with the medical information I needed to hear. Dr Hurliman's staff made me feel like a VERY important human which was so nice...I would have liked a more positive energy and for her to give me more hope...If you want warm and fuzzy Dr Hurliman might not be the best choice. She is honest and direct.
We were using my sister as a donor [at ORM Fertility] and her protocol included BC pills, then Dexamethasone, menopur, follistim and leuprolide acetate. They didn't stimulate very much. At the baseline testing my sister had 15 follicles, after stimulation and at retrieval she had about 12. We retrieved 2 eggs... Haley [nurse] was a godsend! I would recommend her 150%. I felt like I was her favorite patient and that she was going above and beyond for me. I bet she does this with each patients but it worked! I love her! The woman who takes the blood was always supportive, friendly and funny.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr Hurliman is direct with the information she needs to deliver. I think one of her strengths was telling you the whole process, the good and the bad. A stretch for Dr Hulriman was staying positive. I walked out of her office repeatedly thinking the worst could happen vs. the best possible outcome. I know she didn't want me to get too excited and then end up getting disappointed but I would have liked a more positive energy and for her to give me more hope.

Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The clinic is beautiful, almost like a spa. They have great hours and easily accessible locations. They were well organized and prompt to return calls and questions. There was a lot of paperwork but it wasn't overwhelming to navigate. I didn't like the patient portal for communications, I preferred communication via email which they were fine with once we discussed it.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
The whole cost was $21,000, not including the meds which was $4,500. I have no fertility coverage with my insurance so I paid all of this out of pocket. They don't do payment plans but they worked with me to make repayment manageable.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
we never got this far along. Didn't end up having any viable embryos.
She [Dr. Amanda Hurliman] remembered our individual history and her concern and care feels genuine...We were never made to feel judged or poorly as to question our decision making process even when we chose to pursue more conservative treatment, despite it did not concur with her recommendation for ideal treatment; we were aware of the statistics of our choices, and those were honored and respected. We never were made to feel pressured or rushed to follow through with her next step recommendation. I’ve never felt judged. She is also honest and doesn’t hesitate to answer slightly direct or difficult questions (like the providers at ORM are stakeholders as owners); I also felt she is able to separate bias or potential personal gain from sound and fair clinical judgements. I find her to be honest, trustworthy, down-to-earth, and reassuring. She has alleviated a lot of anxieties around I fertility. I feel good about our decision of having switched to ORM with Dr. Hurliman in particular.
The downtown clinic parking lot [of ORM Fertility] (you must use for IVF) is barely functional due to size...The diagnostic workup is as thorough as one can imagine with no stones unturned; the treatment plan choices are based on individual factors and not a generic hit list...[The nurses were] Very organized. Quick response time. Exceptional communication within the team. Quite punctual. Gentle blood draws...currently ORM does a single transfer the first time. A two-embryo transfer is not considered until a first transfer fails.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
She is succinct and honest, as well as completely professional. She doesn’t go into as much detail as I prefer, but I’ve always had opportunity to ask questions. She is thorough and thoughtful in her responses. She does a thorough chart review so she isn’t asking redundant questions, and clarifying questions are appropriate. We were never made to feel judged or poorly as to question our decision making process even when we chose to pursue more conservative treatment, despite it did not concur with her recommendation for ideal treatment; we were aware of the statistics of our choices, and those were honored and respected. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Don’t be shy to ask questions as she is very receptive to clarify anything that is creating uncertainty or stress. Also, if you’re someone who prefers a what-you-see-is-what-you-get personality and a friendly introvert for a provider, she’s the doctor for you. If you need a bubbly extrovert provider who will small talk or schmooze, make a different selection if that is your personality preference.

The diagnostic workup is as thorough as one can imagine with no stones unturned; the treatment plan choices are based on individual factors and not a generic hit list. We pursued IUIs and Clomid then Femara fully understanding she recommended IVF as ideal treatment; this was due to fear of what-ifs associated with cost, and our bad experience with a different physician at another facility with janky IVF before ORM.

Their costs are a the high end of the spectrum, probably because of the cost of their state of the art facility, and SART success (so they can command a higher fee schedule). The downtown clinic parking lot (you must use for IVF) is barely functional due to size.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
IUI cost is mainly related to the number of ultrasounds each cu or required, so a firm figure isn’t helpful.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
I’d read different things online, and paradigms change, but currently ORM does a single transfer the first time. A two-embryo transfer is not considered until a first transfer fails.
Given she [Dr. Amanda Hurilman] is a mother of twins, she's able to give a real-life and medical opinion on the topic [of Eset]. With her guidance, we decided to go for a single transfer in order to reduce risk and increase chance of live birth...was very patient, yet direct about our specific needs. She is a nice balance of direct and warm...She was understanding in our desire to seek a very specific type of outside egg donor, and further supported us in vetting potential donors. She was especially helpful in providing input on key decisions, such as whether or not to transfer 2 embryos to a GC, explaining her own experience as a mother of twins, and then supporting with her medical opinion (re: risks). All in, we are very satisfied.
Hayley [nurse at is great. She is very thorough in explaining the process...The doctor's are very professional and their vetting process for egg donors is very strong. Further, they have strong relationships with local surrogacy agencies and conduct medical vetting for potential surrogates, ensuring a high bar for prospective surrogates prior to being considered for match... we have only been through the diagnostics and donor portion of the process. Abstinence was used in order to provide for optimal sperm samples.

Yes - Dr Hurliman is fabulous in this capacity. Given she is a mother of twins, she's able to give a real-life and medical opinion on the topic. With her guidance, we decided to go for a single transfer in order to reduce risk and increase chance of live birth.
Dr. Hurliman’s strengths: she was patient and kind and showed compassion. She was able to explain things clearly and even drew pictures to help explain the process. Weaknesses: this isn’t a weakness of dr. Hurliman specifically but infertility treatment is extremely expensive and she would offer up suggestions on next steps without ever discussing cost (minus saying that the next treatment would be “expensive”). It’s hard to make a decision without having all of the information (including financial info).
The downtown clinic [ORM] feels very cold and run like a bank. Every time you leave the front desk people would ask for money towards your balance (even though there were still claims out to insurance etc.) The south clinic is great. ... I love Elizabeth and Jeri [nursing]. No matter what bad news I was facing that day - they always made me feel warm and welcomed.

Get all the facts before embarking on this journey. It’s time consuming and emotional. Dealing with the cost in addition to the stress can be overwhelming. Write your questions down and take all the time you need
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Amanda Hurliman seemed like she really cared about our journey and would ask personal questions to get to know us. I never felt rushed. She patiently answered all of our questions.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
I was on an agonist treatment cycle. I used menopur injections and follistim for egg retrieval. First time I had 22 eggs collected but only 4 made it to blastocyst and then only 1 was genetically viable. Transfer prep was progesterone injections (which are painful!) and endometrin suppositories (which are gross). Transfer resulted in a positive pregnancy test, but at 6 weeks it was a blighted ovum and I miscarried. Second attempt was the same protocol with the addition of omnitrope, human growth hormone, which is supposed to help increase quality. 24 eggs were collected and again only 4 made it to blastocyst and none were genetically viable for transfer.

Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Amanda Hurliman seemed to be very conservative and let us know that she would only ever transfer 1 embryo at a time. We only had the 1 so it wasn’t an issue but I would’ve liked to have a choice and assume the risk as the patient (and the one paying for this)
Dr. Hurliman ran the usual blood tests on day 3 of my cycle. We did not proceed any further after her nurse explained the lab results...She was soft spoken and explained everything with pictures. She was blunt at times saying, “you may never have your own biological children” and “you will need donor eggs if you want children.” I asked if she would let me try IUI or IVF and she nodded ‘no’ because of my low numbers. I saw her about 4 times, each time I left crying because I felt like she didn’t care enough to have me as her patient, or willing to even try anything.
The staff [at ORM Fertility] was a bit unfriendly, in my opinion. I mean, walking into a fertility clinic is overwhelming enough, but to have the front desk not be friendly to you makes it more unattractive. When you walk in, they kind of "demand" your insurance card and ID immediately, then they tell you to sit and wait to be called. The wait is the worst, they're never on time and I usually end up waiting 15-20 minutes when I showed up on time. Not a huge fan of sitting in a room staring at very stale walls.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
As a patient, Dr Hurliman was nice, but I always felt like a 30-minute block on her calendar. I didn't get a good vibe from the get-go and every time I ask about ART and other options, she looked at me like I was crazy for even asking. Her answer was always, "No, I'm sorry. You don't have many eggs left and your ovaries are working overtime." I felt defeated and because Oregon Reproductive Medicine was supposed to be the best of the best in my area, I truly believed her. Dr. Hurliman always had this empathetic look whenever we met. Like she knew this is going to be the end of the road for me. I hated every appointment I had, but couldn't find another RE in my area with desirable hours, or within my insurance network. I finally stopped making appointments with her office and took a break. I eventually found another RE who was way more supportive.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I wish I had asked her to recommend me to another RE in her office who can re-evaluate my situation from a different perspective. Just because it's their opinion of your current situation does not mean it's the end-all-be-all. Although Dr. Hurliman was nice, I would rather talk to someone who didn't view my file as a potential negative hit to her success numbers. If you don't like what you hear, keep pushing for alternatives and/or get a second opinion. That's what I did and I found a new RE (solo practitioner) who was willing to let me try a round of IUI to see how my body would respond. Although it failed, she continued to work with me and didn't dismiss me when I asked her about other protocols.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I felt like she was treated me equally like human and a number, but just slightly leaning towards the human side. She was soft spoken and explained everything with pictures. She was blunt at times saying, “you may never have your own biological children” and “you will need donor eggs if you want children.” I asked if she would let me try IUI or IVF and she nodded ‘no’ because of my low numbers. Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Elizabeth)
Elizabeth was your typical nurse; she didn't have much time to explain mylab results and everything was communicated via the patient portal. I almost always had to call them to get a explanation on what the numbers mean. The only time I can recall where she actually called me was for my TSH numbers. The conversation was short, she said my TSH number was ____, and my Levo medication would be at ____mcg.
The staff was a bit unfriendly, in my opinion. I mean, walking into a fertility clinic is overwhelming enough, but to have the front desk not be friendly to you makes it more unattractive. I hope the clinic would be more considerate of people's time. Sitting there waiting to be called makes you more nervous because a thousand thoughts run through your head.
If you get the gut feeling the doctor is not supportive of you, get up and leave. You have no obligation to explain to the or the office why you're seeking a second opinion. To me, I was just a file number, and that's not okay with me.

What specific things went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Failed to call with results
Failed to send your chart to another clinic
Failed to convey critical information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Dr Hurliman put me on Levo for my thyroid issue. It was a 30-day supply; midway I called the pharmacy to refill the prescription, which needed authorization from the clinic. They failed to approve the medication and I had to call the clinic several times to get their attention. The nurse who was assigned to me would call me close to 5pm, when I'm on the train with no service, to call her back. When I did return her call, her voicemail says she's gone for the day so it was always a phone tag with this office.
She [Dr. Hurliman] wasn't really descriptive on what she was doing when she was doing it. ... I was on 2 different protocols for 2 different retrievals. ... I felt the first meeting was fairly robotic, however the more time I saw her and became comfortable with her she and I both loosened up. She is a kind doctor that I believe really wants to help. ... She recommends Single Embryo Transfer, she does not like transferring multiples because of risks.
They [ORM Fertility] are clean, inviting, kind. They are expensive and you have to pay up front and they will refund you the money if the insurance pays and there is not much communication around money or why things are or not being paid. ... The staff is good, however the first retrieval they were on top of it with communicating. The second retrieval the communication was subpar and they make things urgent on their end but when I need things like picking up prescriptions they were slow to getting things done.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
She was great. She wasn't really descriptive on what she was doing when she was doing it. I had another one of her colleagues do an exam on me while she was out of town and he was very descriptive, telling me what the numbers mean. I wish she did that more, but I didn't know what to ask or to tell her until I had a different experience. I often didn't know what I should be asking and I wish she would say people usually ask xyz... I was not the most informed person in the room. I have learned a lot during this process. She is a good Doctor and truly cares about my success.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Educate yourself and come in with questions. She is not forthcoming but she will answer any and all questions you have. You don't know, what you don't know.

I believe the Doctors are more about the medications they give you and not relying on creating better egg quality yourself. I was on 2 different protocols for 2 different retrievals. Even though the 2nd retrieval was more successful I am not sure if it had to do more with my own supplements that I added into my diet or if it was the protocol.
The First Protocol--> Leupron, Menopur, Follistim --> 17 Eggs Retreived, 1 Embryo Frozen

We did IUI after IUI with little to no change in medication. She [Dr. Amanda Hurliman] never brought up my eating habits, exercise, or anything I could be doing differently. If I didn't ask a question, she didn't give any feedback. It was always "do you have any questions?". I didn't know what I should have been asking until everything was done.
[ORM Fertility's] Strengths - Multiple locations make it easier to work with your schedule. Weakness - you are a number and your level of communication does depend on the doctor. There is a bias towards the IVF process ($$$). It took 3 emails to get the IVF cost line item breakdown.... 1st IUI on Clomid and Levothyroxine lead to chemical pregnancy. Completed another IUI cycle on Clomid which resulted in a cyst. Moved to 5 IUI cycles on same dosage of Letrozole. Responded too well to Levothyroxine and dosage was cut down 3 times to 1/2 pill every other day. IVF - Dexamethasone - 10 days 20u of Lupron in the AM and again in PM 81 mg Aspirin 2 vials Menopur in AM 300 Follistim in PM increased to 375 on day 3

Came in for Day 3 monitoring was called with a negative beta later that day. It took 3 tries to get a line-item breakdown of IVF costs. Felt rushed into IVF cycle without really looking at my health or changes that could have been made leading into the cycle.
I felt like I couldn’t ask Dr hurliman questions because she seemed annoyed at the questions I would ask. I mentioned pain at ovulation and she said pain is different from one person to the next and didn’t even mention endometriosis. At my second IUI appointment our numbers were low and she was not positive about it at all and at that point referred us to a urologist. That was about 6 months ago and we haven’t been checked on once.
The clinic [ORM- Portland Westside] is small in size which feels nice. We were able to get seen within a month which is another pro. I feel like the clinic doesn’t understand that not everyone can afford every test and IVF. The clinic could have been a lot “warmer” in spirits since they are helping people through a very hard time in their life.... Our coordinator was a little forgetful. I had an HSG scan and was supposed to be prescribed and antibiotic for it and she forgot. She never really showed compassion when our IUIs didn’t work. It was nice to have just one assigned nurse though

Beware if you are on the younger end of the scale because they won’t take you as seriously.

She could never remember details about my husband and I. We also felt like a number because she seemed annoyed with the questions I would ask her.

We were to do IUIs unmedicated. The first one our numbers were great and it didn’t work, second round our numbers were bad and it didn’t work. Then she referred us to a urologist go see if we could improve my husbands sperm at all. If that didn’t work we would start down the road of IVF.

They forgot to order a prescription for an HSG. They never called with semen analysis and they didn’t send records to a new primary care doctor of mine. I felt very judge based on my age and financial ability. This clinic is well known and I’ve been told they are “one of the best in the country” and that is why we are still going there.
Dr. Hurliman has always been very personable. She always makes sure to give us her full attention making sure all of our questions are answered.... Although we haven't gotten our happily ever after yet, Dr. Hurliman has done everything in her power to help us. She has been here every step of the way and continues to try and use the science to meet our specific needs.
The clinic [Oregon Reproductive Med] is very organized and clean. Everyone (billing, genetic counseling, front desk, nursing, etc.) is very friendly and willing to help you in any way. We've never had any issues or disliked any of our interactions with anyone. A dislike would have to be the limited, tight parking lot of the downtown office.... we spent about $32k on our IVF with PDG - this includes medications from an outside pharmacy.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Hurliman has always been very nice and informative with us. She answers our questions completely never making us feel like an annoyance (no matter how ridiculous the questions are). Unfortunately we haven't had a successful pregnancy yet, but Dr. Hurliman is there with us every step of the way. She cares about our success just as much as us and isn't in this industry just to make money.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?

We have done just about every treatment out there, so this may take a while...
We first starting seeing Dr. Hurliman after our third miscarriage and learning of my unicornuate uterus. During the pre-diagnosis testing, we learned of my husband's chromosomal inversion. With these results, we assumed our miscarriages were a result of the chromosomal inversion so we embarked on IVF with PDG. We ended up with 1 balanced embryo (out of 10 fertilized, 2 made it to day 5 and were tested). We then had a failed FET. Since we didn't get the results we were hoping for, we decided to proceed with IUI with DS. Our first IUI cycle was unsuccessful (using Clomid). The next three months I used Clomid and Letrozole and proceeded to ovulate from my unconnected ovary. Since we were using DS, we didn't not proceed with the IUI those months. On our 5 cycle trying IUI, we used injectable medication to make both of my ovaries respond. This cycle went beautifully and we received a positive pregnancy test. Unfortunately, we miscarried at 7 weeks. Realizing my uterus was not going to be able to sustain a pregnancy, we decided to move forward with IVF with PGD and a GC. We retrieved my eggs, and fertilized half of the eggs with my husband's sperm and half with DS. Out of 13 fertilized embryos, 2 made it to day 5 (1 from husband, 1 from DS). Being able to see and compare the results from embryo with my husband vs. embryos with the DS, we learned that my eggs are vary poor quality. This was a complete shock because all of my other testing came back normal. Although this was a very disappointing discovery, we ended up with 1 balanced embryo and had a successful FET with our GC. Everyone was so happy - Dr. Hurliman and her staff shared our excitement. Unfortunately, we lost the pregnancy at 8 weeks. Everyone was devastated - again, Dr. Hurliman and her staff shared our emotions.
Right now we are in the process on where to go from here and again, Dr. Hurliman is right here with us.
This survey asked if we have received the results we wanted - I put it's too soon to tell because it's a hard question to answer. Technically, Dr. Hurliman has done a brilliant job and we have gotten pregnant twice. But in the end, we don't have a sweet little baby in our arms. Although we haven't gotten our happily ever after yet, Dr. Hurliman has done everything in her power to help us. She has been here every step of the way and continues to try and use the science to meet our specific needs. Although we haven't been able to reach our end goal, I wouldn't consider it to be Dr. Hurliman or her staff's fault - no matter how hard you try, sometimes science can't fix you.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Katy and Heidi)
When we first began at ORM, we had Katy as a nurse. She was amazing, and we loved her. Katy has moved onto other opportunities and Heidi took her place. Heidi is super nice. I do wish she communicated a little more, but in the end, I get the information I need - sometimes I just have to reach out and request it.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
There were a couple of times in the beginning of going to ORM that they had the incorrect time for our appointment. Normally I would take the blame, but with these couple of appointments, we had specific times that would work for us. It wasn't a big deal and they got it taken care of each time.
During our first IUI with DS, the nurse practitioner that performed the procedure instructed us to have intercourse that evening. I ended up calling on our way home to confirm that was correct because we were using DS. When I called, the nurse said that was a mistake and said not to have intercourse.
[Dr. Hurliman] is very professional and pleasant. She always answers all our questions we have and if I ask her to explain something again for me to better understand, she always does. She is always smiling and I feel she is always is encouraging us that our day as parents is coming. A weakness we find in her though which we wish was not the case is that we feel in the end she always just really pushes for us to do another IUI (and IVF) without digging deeper on what our fertility issues are.
Overall i think the clinic [Oregon Reproductive Medicine] is very professional as a whole and they all make sure they smile when talking to a patient which is so nice when you’re doing something that could be so difficult to stay positive... I do wish that their would be more financial support like some other clinics have.... We were assigned different nurses at different times but all our nurses were very professional and caring. They all were very organized and would set our schedules and would call us when certain things would need to be done and call us each time we had a result and discussed those results with us.

A weakness we find in her though which we wish was not the case is that we feel in the end she always just really pushes for us to do another IUI (and IVF) without digging deeper on what our fertility issues are. We did a few IUIs with her already and If we had the money to spend on another IUI or possibley an IVF than heck, I would jump right to it like she wants to but we can’t just jump into it without being more sure on our issues and how we can avoid a miscarriage if we do get pregnant again when we are already baried in so many medical bills.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Always always ask questions, ask her to repeat explaining something if you need more clarification and be firm about certain testing you want done
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I feel there’s never interest to find out why I am having recurrent miscarriages. They push IUI and IVF on us but we can’t afford to do another cycle of IUI (can’t even think of IVF as that’s not even close to an option) especially if it ends in a miscarriage again.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
Both my IUI cycles I took clomid (can’t remember the dosage), and a trigger shot before the IUI procedure. These both resulted in a failed IUI.

Overall i think the clinic is very professional as a whole and they all make sure they smile when talking to a patient which is so nice when you’re doing something that could be so difficult to stay positive in but their smiles I feel always help us without realizing it. I do wish that their would be more financial support like some other clinics have. For example I know some clinics give you 3 tries but if all theee fail, you get your money back or part of your money back. If they do have any, I’m completely not aware of it as no one ever mentioned it to us. If they want to really push IUI/IVF on you than they should have options like this.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Most of our treatments were done in 2015/early 2016 so I don’t quite remember the exact amount but overall it costed us over 2000 for the two IUI and everything leading up to those

There was a few times I was at the office or I called in for an appointment and the moment the front desk told me the date and time of the appointment I took my phone out and put it in my calendar as I was talking to them, but when the day came, they told me I don’t have an appointment for that date/time.I don’t know if it was miscommunication or if it was their mistake.
Dr Hurliman always gives me the impression that she is dedicated to me as a patient. I've been so impressed with how thorough Dr Hurliman is pre-cycle testing to make sure that I have the best chance possible at having a healthy pregnancy and baby. When I sit with Dr Hurliman in person, I feel that Dr Hurliman is truly fully in the the room with me which means so much!...I was also truly blown away by Dr Hurliman's ability to navigate my cervix and uterus. Dr Hurliman completed a procedure that when I had the same one years earlier, was excruciating. With Dr Hurliman, I did not feel a thing!!
The clinic [Oregon Reproductive Medicine] says it strives to achieve excellent patient care, and I feel that the staff is achieving this. From the receptionist to the medical records team to the financial coordinators...every staff member seems to truly care about me and my success. They perform their jobs with competence and with consistency. The only area where the clinic needs to continue to improve is with having the best nurses available for us. The first nurse that I was assigned to caused emotional hurt to me as a patient, but I can clearly see that the situation was taken very seriously and it is now in the past. I hope that my feedback during that situation resulted in that nurse growing as a provider. That would be my hope!
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I will always remember the first consult that I had with Dr Hurliman. It was by phone, yet she felt so close to me as we talked. I remember her saying, "We are here for you and we are going to support you on this journey to getting your baby." I could feel that her energy was genuine and I immediately felt a connection with her. The first time that I met with Dr Hurliman in person was for an invasive ultrasound procedure. I was touched by how emotionally present Dr Hurliman was - it made me feel so safe! I was also truly blown away by Dr Hurliman's ability to navigate my cervix and uterus. Dr Hurliman completed a procedure that when I had the same one years earlier, was excruciating. With Dr Hurliman, I did not feel a thing!! With Dr Hurliman, I have put myself into her hands 100%. For a woman who does not trust medical doctors very easily, this says a lot about the doctor that she is.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr Hurliman is going to ask you to give 100% to this process. She is going to require that you follow her protocols to a T and she's going to require that you complete extensive pre-cycle testing. Remind yourself that the reason she is doing this is because she wants what you want: for you to succeed! Place yourself in her hands and do what she asks. But, you have to be very assertive to make sure that you have Dr Hurliman's time, whatever time you need. Ask for what YOU need and don't worry about what other patients are doing. Allow yourself to be vulnerable and connect.

Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Haley Swanson and Andi Hockman)
I am currently under the care of Andi Hockman who is the program coordinator. Andi is meticulous with all aspects of IVF nursing care. She is highly organized, responds promptly to every communication, she is excellent at communication, she is extremely kind/sensitive/patient - Andi has never once acted upset at my many emails and questions. She has taken my concerns seriously and has taken it upon herself to check in with Dr Hurliman with my concerns though I have rarely asked her to. I feel 100% supported by Andi and Dr Hurliman.

Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
So many women doing IVF want to transfer 2 embryos. Not me! I want a natural birth and I want my pregnancy to go full term. Most of the twin births that I know of were preemie births. The babies were very fragile and the pregnancies were stressful. I agree with Dr Hurliman: transfer one only.

I've already spoken about it. It was a very short period of time and I am being very well taken care of now! I have zero complaints as I move towards my transfer date. I am receiving 100% superb care from every staff member. No complaints!
Not much explaining unless you had all the questions. Only recommended Coq10 after 5 failed iuis instead of from the beginning. She [Dr. Hurliman] didn’t have the answers to why the iuis were not working. She didn’t give me other options, other meds to take, or other treatments to do with IUI... I requested to have my HSG done somewhere that I knew was covered with my insurance and Dr.Hurliman wasn’t supportive of that. They wanted me to go to where they wanted even though it would be out of network for me
I was told but the front desk to call their [ORM] billing office to set up a payment plan but when I call the billing office, they tell me they don’t do payment plans..... I had completed the IUI and I was leaving to schedule the blood pregnancy test in 2 weeks. I was told by the front desk that my account was on hold since I had an outstanding balance and was told I couldn’t make the next appointment...

The first IUI I did letrozole 5mg. My follicles were not mature. I increased to 10mg after the second IUI. I ovulated on my own the first 3 IUI treatments. The 4th cycle I had ovulated early so I had to miss a month. The 4th IUI I did the injection night before IUI and 5th iui no injection. All failed. The sperm analysis was up and down for all of the cycles
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
They were available to answer questions. My last IUI cycle, there was miscommunication. I had completed the IUI and I was leaving to schedule the blood pregnancy test in 2 weeks. I was told by the front desk that my account was on hold since I had an outstanding balance and was told I couldn’t make the next appointment. I was not given any options so I just walked out. 2 weeks later I got a call from the MA asking why I didn’t take my blood pregnancy test. I wAs very upset since my period had started so I knew it wasn’t working but also because I was told I couldn’t schedule the blood pregnancy test. Turns out they sent an order to a hospital that covers my insurance and expected me to go there for the lab draw but never told me.

They just want your money. They don’t have any payment plan options. They want you to get tests done that are not necessary. They also double charge you on your account so you have to double check to make sure you were charged correctly. I was told but the front desk to call their billing office to set up a payment plan but when I call the billing office, they tell me they don’t do payment plans. Lots of comminication

Being treated by Dr Hurliman was a great experience. She was very candid about what treatments we needed and why. Going in we were sure we wanted to try IUI first but Dr Hurliman was very up front about how this wasn’t a good option for us and our chances of conceiving would be very thin.... I appreciate candid responses and someone who doesn’t beat around the bush. Dr. Hurliman is a great combination of “giving it to you straight” and compassionate bedside manner.
I like that they [ORM Fertility] had two clinics. It was very convenient for us. If there was a different doctor covering for Dr Hurliman it was always the same doctor which was nice. They were always well organized and very clean clinics... Our care coordinator was so sweet. She always remembered us and specific details about our treatment. Even the phlebotomist remembered us every time... In total it was about $32,000 out of pocket for egg retrieval and transfer

You can tell Dr. Hurliman also cares about you having a healthy pregnancy to term even after you leave their clinic. We wanted to transfer two embryos but with the grade of them being so high and the odds of me having multiples would have been very great. With multiples comes great risk, and Dr Hurliman layed our all the risks that could happen with us and made sure we were infirmary, but still let us make the decision on our own. Overall, the experience with Dr Hurliman was amazing and resulted the most perfect son for me and my husband.

Dr. Hurliman and staff were always very helpful, just a phone call away. We drove over 2 hrs every appointment and never felt rushed while talking with the doctor or nurse.
Describe the protocols Amanda Hurliman used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
Ours was a pretty standard protocol. Birth control for a week or so, menopur, ganirelix, follistim, dexamethasone all leading up to the egg retrieval. Prior to the transfer it was birth control again for a week or so, then delestrogen twice a week for three weeks, then progesterone in oil started on the third week with Medrol and an antibiotic. After the transfer I continued progesterone in oil and added endometrin suppository.

Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
You could tell the goal was to minimize risks during pregnancy while maintaining pregnancy rate. Dr. Hurliman was definitely against transferring more than one embryo because the chances of multiples for me was so high.
When my spouse and I began seeing Dr. Hurliman we were unsure of the future for us in conceiving our own children. She reviewed our records and provided a professional perspective without making us feel discouraged or overwhelmed. Her approach was always to educate and reassure. I never felt that she over promised things, she was very clear on the next steps and what results she thought we might see. By not over promising my spouse and I were never discouraged by results.
Regardless of whether I saw my care coordinator [at Oregon Reproductive Medicine] or not, they seemed to take very good notes so all staff was aware of last visits and conversations. Diagnosed with tubal blockage on both sides. ORM referred me to a specialist to have surgery. Prior to the surgery we decided to start IVF and freeze the eggs. My IVF cycle included; PM Dexamethasone, Prenatal, Aspirin, Menopur 2, Follistim 150 and Ganirellex. My cycle lasted 7 days. We retrieved 23 eggs and of those 23, 13 lasted past day 7. When met with the sperm we ended up with 7 embryos and after testing 3 were ruled out. Thus, our one cycle rendered 4 viable embryos. After my tubal surgery and recovery we scheduled a time for the embryo transfer. At that time I took Doxycycline twice a day, Endometrin and Medrol after the HCG trigger. First transfer was a success!

Dr. Hurliman was very supportive through every step of this process. She was always very patient and explained in detail everything she was doing and answered any question that came up. She even took the time to personally call me when the results of my pregnancy test came in...When I met with Dr. Hurliman to discuss the results, she was so loving and kind and just normal. She wasn't in doctor mode-- her reactions to everything were the same as my close friends. It felt good to have a real conversation about how hard things were.
ORM runs like a well oiled machine (at least it presents that way!) They respond to you in a timely manner, they are all very helpful and compassionate and they make going through this whole process a whole lot easier...The nursing staff at ORM is the best. They are all very informed on where you are in the process and provide detailed answers for any questions you may have. They are great teachers too...ORM gives you a list of great acupuncturists that specialize in fertility.
How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I met Dr. Hurliman right at the start of what turned out to be the hardest year of my life. I had been recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and still trying to figure out what that even meant. We were having trouble getting pregnant, but we hadn't been trying that long, so I wasn't convinced there was anything wrong. Since I had my MS issues, I thought it would be good just to get checked out. After my first couple appointments, I learned that I had all sorts of fertility issues. I started treatment and in the middle of it, my dad got really sick. I went back to California to help my mom take care of him, while still trying to do my injections and fly back and forth for appointments. I felt like I was calling ORM every day asking them what to do, if I could move an appointment, if I had to have a blood draw, etc. They finally told me it would probably be a good idea to just stop this round of IVF and pick back up when I was in a better place. It was the best thing they could have ever said to me. It was this weird relief and it allowed me to focus completely on my Dad. He was on in-home hospice and we were told he had about a year to live. He ended up passing away 3 weeks later, and I am so incredibly thankful I got to spend those last 3 weeks taking care of him with nothing else on my mind except that.
Dr. Hurliman and her team were so compassionate and patient during this time. It was already overwhelming trying to navigate the fertility injections and going through everything with my Dad made it a million times harder. They answered my every phone call with nothing but warmth and it felt like they were going through all this with me.
A few weeks later, my Grandma passed away and then my poor mother had a massive heart attack from all the stress of the last month and losing two of the people she loved the most. It was definitely a very sad, stressful time and writing this all out reminds me just how absolutely crazy it was. I started another round of treatment that ended up not working. I felt like it was kind of set up to fail based on the amount of stress and heartache that had happened in the months before. When I met with Dr. Hurliman to discuss the results, she was so loving and kind and just normal. She wasn't in doctor mode-- her reactions to everything were the same as my close friends. It felt good to have a real conversation about how hard things were. After that, she had a new plan to move forward and was confident that we could be successful in the next round...And we were!
Fast forward to a few months later, Dr. Hurliman called me herself to tell me that I had a positive pregnancy test. It meant a lot that she took the time to personally call me and I think it shows a lot about what an amazing person she is and how invested she is in her patients
I still thank my lucky stars that I got Dr. Hurliman as my Doctor. She is an incredibly smart, caring and compassionate person, and has a very calming presence that puts you at ease. Going through IVF sucks, but the way she handles things makes it so much better.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Hurliman will create the best path to success for you and you need to trust her and her plan. I would also recommend utilizing the resources ORM has to offer. I think when you find out that you have fertility issues, your first instinct is to become as educated as possible in your condition and the best way to get the results you want. There is SO much information online and in books that it can be overwhelming. Definitely do you research, but also take advantage of people at ORM like Dr. Sgarlata. He helped me refine my vitamin regimen and also provided insight on some lifestyle changes I could make to promote better overall health. It was very helpful. I also highly recommended acupuncture. I think it was one of the defining things I did that helped me to achieve a positive outcome. ORM gives you a list of great acupuncturists that specialize in fertility.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Hurliman was very supportive through every step of this process. She was always very patient and explained in detail everything she was doing and answered any question that came up. She even took the time to personally call me when the results of my pregnancy test came in.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Jessica Schmitke)
The nursing staff at ORM is the best. They are all very informed on where you are in the process and provide detailed answers for any questions you may have. They are great teachers too. They go over your calendar (which can seem daunting at first) and how to do your injections in an easy to understand way. I am sure they have to do that a million times a day with each person, but they are always treat you like you're their only patient.
Katy and Whitney were my two favorite nurses. They were always so nice and knew who I was. I imagine they deal with a lot of patients throughout the day, so it was always really cool that they knew who I was and were so friendly.
Jeri was also an amazing person at ORM and really made this whole process a lot more bearable. She definitely helped me through some tough appointments. Anyone that gets to meet her should consider themselves very lucky.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
ORM runs like a well oiled machine (at least it presents that way!) They respond to you in a timely manner, they are all very helpful and compassionate and they make going through this whole process a whole lot easier. They recently introduced an online portal which makes communicating with them even easier and its nice to be able to access your test results and go back to old emails that may have instructions.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
I had two embryos and Dr. Hurliman advised me to transfer one. She went over in detail the success rates of a single transfer vs multiple and we both agreed that a single transfer was best for me.
The strategy at ORM seems to be strongly quality over quantity. I have no diagnosis outside of unexplained infertility. I was given an Antagonist protocol. I was started with birth control pills and doxycycline. Later I started dexamethasone. After my suppression check I was not quite suppressed enough so they had me do a few days of Cetrotide to get my estrogen levels down. That worked, so I then started all my injectables: Menopur (2) and Gonal F (150). On day 6 they added Cetrotide back. I did 10 days total of injections before I took my trigger shot. My doses were never adjusted, except on the final day when my Gonal-F was reduced to 75. At the egg retrieval, 11 eggs were retrieved and all were mature. 9 of the 11 fertilized. 5 of the 9 made it to day 5 and were biopsied/frozen for CCS testing. All 5 came back as normal.

How was your experience with Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon?
She is amazing at explaining the process. Whenever we had a sit-down meeting, e.g. to discuss IVF, she drew out the whole process and we were able to take that image/notes with us. She gave us ample time to ask all our questions and never rushed us out, even when we sometimes went over time. It did seem like it took some time to build a more personal rapport with her, but as she got to know us better, I felt like her demeanor was more and more caring and gentle.

Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Katy)
Katy was incredibly kind, happy, and present whenever I met with her. She always responded promptly and thoroughly to my messages. I felt like she was genuinely sad/happy with me through the whole journey. She gave me whatever time I needed to ask every question I could think of.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
I can't think of a single thing wrong with ORM. They are very clean, warm, professional, and thorough. The same staff is present all the time (i.e. they aren't too big), so you begin to recognize the same faces over and over. The waiting area is tactful and compassionate (i.e. no signage or environment cues to remind you that you don't have children). I loved that their office is available on weekends for appointments (at the Downtown location). The Westside location was very convenient for us during weekdays. Exam rooms are clean and calming. Meeting rooms/offices are professional but not cold/"sterile." They have an amazing genetic counselor (Serena!). And Westside has an amazing receptionist (Jennifer!). I just loved coming there, despite the reason for it!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Amanda Hurliman at ORM Fertility Oregon.
For our IVF (egg retrieval and frozen embryo transfer with ICSI and CCS testing), we paid approximately $11,500 out of pocket. I have good health insurance coverage for infertility treatment and medications.
Describe Amanda Hurliman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Dr. Hurliman strongly recommended that we transfer 1 embryo, due to my age (31) and the lack of previous miscarriages.
