Dr. Karmon was kind and answered my questions when I had them. Overall I trusted her expertise and felt safe doing the procedure with her. I do wish she or her team would have given me a little more information throughout the process. I sensed she was seeing a very large amount of patients each day and so even though I saw her at each visit it was always for less than 10 minutes...I would have liked more details regarding my progress at each visit and also what to expect next
Busy clinic [Fertility Institute of Hawaii] with lots of patients but clean and efficient once you get your appointment started. Parking is easy. Staff are all very kind. Seems a bit like a fertility factory but they get the job done well. If you want luxury or warm and fuzzy and lots of extra attention maybe look for a smaller clinic. This one worked great for me...Dr. Karmon was kind and answered my questions when I had them. Overall I trusted her expertise and felt safe doing the procedure with her.
How was your experience with Anatte Karmon at Fertility Institute of Hawaii?
Dr. Karmon was kind and answered my questions when I had them. Overall I trusted her expertise and felt safe doing the procedure with her. I do wish she or her team would have given me a little more information throughout the process. I sensed she was seeing a very large amount of patients each day and so even though I saw her at each visit it was always for less than 10 minutes. Because of how busy this clinic is I got the feeling that they take for granted that this is something they do every day and so it can feel like they are very casual about it all, when for the patient it is usually a very big deal and so I wish there was a little more emphasis on holding the weight of these visits in a more serious manner. On one hand the casualness of it all made me feel like I had nothing to worry about, but I also caught myself putting on a brave so that I didn’t take up more of the doctors time.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anatte Karmon at Fertility Institute of Hawaii?
Ask as many questions as you need to and don’t feel pressed for time. You are paying for the time to gather all the information you need to.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anatte Karmon at Fertility Institute of Hawaii?
Overall the doctor was kind and answered my questions when I had them but the visits were quick, there were always quite a lot of people in the office coming and going, and I would have liked more details regarding my progress at each visit and also what to expect next. When you’ve never been through an egg retrieval process before you don’t know all the questions to ask or what it even is that may have been helpful to know, but now that I’ve been through it I can think of several things that would have been nice for my doctor and care team to explain to me in more detail to have achieved a higher level of care.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Institute of Hawaii. (Assigned nurse: Christian)
The care team was disappointing, continually got my information wrong leading up to the procedure (ie I was traveling from another island to do it and she tried several times to make appointments for me having forgotten that I don’t even live there). She also wasn’t able to answer some basic health/science questions such as, why exactly it was important to avoid taking aspirin during the process. She also told me something completely wrong about how the egg retrieval process works.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anatte Karmon at Fertility Institute of Hawaii?
Anatte Karmon has been the sweetest doctor ever. She opens all options for you but makes sure you take the route thats best for you based on your bodies needs. She makes me feel so comfortable and has never discouraged me through any results i did not want to hear after trying. Its expensive just to purchase sperm vials just for it to fail many times. Ive had to put things on hold all becausz i didnt have enough money to continue. Stress and worries for in between allowing me to go e.r since it caused problems within my stomach due to stress. I packed on the extra weight due to drinking becausz i gave up, i really wanted a baby and to start my family as were the aunties that supports everyone who has babies around us. And because we picture all we would buy for our baby one day, every baby we blessed had good gifts from us. Its to a point i hope being blessed can happen from all weve blessed other children and babies growing up.
Describe the protocols Anatte Karmon used in your cycles at Fertility Institute of Hawaii and their degree of success.
Anatte Karmon has first consulted with me on what steps to take first. Upon consulting she then moved on to step 1 that was an option for me to take, she encouraged that every women sometimes will go through the entire process just to possibly find their tubes was blocked. So its an extra procedure to do just to be safe that it wont be the cause of any egg being stopped from traveling. Its called an HSG OR SIS. Basically a procedure involving an xray to show dye that they shoot into your uterus to see how far it travels. As long as it goes all the way through, it shows that your tubes and lining are perfectly clear to go. It relieves the stress from future news you dont want to hear. After that step and getting all information about your cycle how ofteb it is blood work to show levels of where your at for your menstrual. You can now move foward to your next step which is waiting till your menstrual shows. If you dont get your menstrual at the time your supposed to from when Dr karmon had asked of you for your last dated cycle, she then had helped me take pills to start my menstrual so i can now start my process to growing my follicles. Day 1 i called Dr Karmon to notify her that i started my menstrual. She then brought me in on day 3 which is when the ultrasound can now detect growth size of follicle (like a egg shell) . I was giving stims which is a liquid you refrigerate and put into a pen that you can shoot in the left or right side of your stomach which is a more effective way to boost chances of egg growth and pregnancy. Because im diagnosed with PCOS my eggs grow amot slower which then took me almost 2 weeks to get to a normal 16-88 mm in size for full growth or mature eggs. After reaching the size she needed me to get to , she now can give me another shot to help increase ovulation (follicles releasing eggs to be fertilized by sperm) 2 days counting after that Dr Karmon could do insemination day to finally see if the sperm will fertilize my egg doing iui treatment! I also ordered my sperm vials from Seattle spermbank who is by far the best since you pay a flat rate of $50 to view unlimited of every info possible for each donor. They also extended their genetic testing on top of everything the sperm donors has to test for to be a safe donor. So the test extends to 100+ more screening they can detect for anything donor carries. It makes the search so much more easier, they also work with fertility institute of hawaii as well so shipment is a piece of cake! All in aml even if it failed, it happens and we have to keep our hopes up that there is help out there and praying that even help financially will make the stress easier and may help the body to decrease stress opening a window for a positive pregnancy test.

Ive honestly have never seen or felt or know any weaknesses in this clinic. They have been nothing but over exceeding the care they are expected to give already. The strengths of this clinic is being able to handle so many patients at once becauqe timing is so important in multiple different fertility issues that each individual patient faces. They are welcoming they continue to show excitement for every patient well-being and fertility struggle.

Dr Karmon is amazing and I'm glad that I decided to get a second opinion because my first Doctor wanted me to just do IVF. It took 3 months with that last doctor and we did no treatments. Dr. Karmon understood my needs and wants. She shared that I had more than 1 option and let me do medicated cycles. She really showed compassion and integrity.
The office [Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii] is bright and fun with a TV that always has cooking shows. I'm a cooking fanatic. But the staff is always smiling to the patients even in the waiting room. It's a large clinic. Nice, clean and wide open space. ... We did a monitored 100mg clomid on my first round with the trigger shot and IUI. She said for my next round if we dont fall pregnant we will go straight to 5mg letrozol. We are currently doing it, monitored, with the trigger shot and IUI again.

Out of pocket it has been over $100 each time I had to go in for a scan because insurance would not cover it and I will go maybe once or twice a week. One day I had to pay about $250 and another day I had to pay $300.

She seemed hopefully that if my husband could get his blood sugar (he has Type 1 diabetes) down there is a possibility we could conceive naturally. So we are awaiting to see his results from his second sperm analysis. Since it was the right time during my cycle at our consult we did a test to see if there was any fibroids in uterus. Everything came back normal. She gave us hope. And that means the world to us.

From day one Dr. Karmon has always made me feel like we can achieve our goals. She has helped me keep faith in this long, dreadful journey. ... They started me on Provera for 10 days. From day one Dr. Karmon has always made me feel like we can achieve our goals. She has helped me keep faith in this long, dreadful journey. When things didn’t work as planned, she would assure me there is still more possibilities and would adjust our plan of action. Her compassion is like no other and I always felt like she was right there with me. I actually referred my best friend to her. My best friend had 2 recurrent unexplained miscarriages and after her second one I suggested she contact Dr. Karmon for help. I trusted her so much that I sent my best friend to her for help. My best friend is now about to give birth to a baby girl in April.

For the first couple cycles it took a veryyy long time for my follicles to be ready for ovulation stimulation. Dr. Karmon knew how frustrating it was for me and she expressed multiple time how frustrating it is for her as well because she knows how frustrating it is for me. It made me feel like she really wanted results for me just as much as I do.
Describe the protocols Anatte Karmon used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii and their degree of success.
For the first cycle, because of insurance, we had to do timed intercourse. Because I have PCOS I don’t typically have regular cycles. They started me on Provera for 10 days. I had to do a HCG which showed my left tube was blocked and had polyps in my uterus. Dr. Karmon did a hysteroscopy to remove the polyps. The next cycle we started with Provera and then Femara. After no results with Femara, we moved on to Follistim. For the first 2 cycles with follistim at 100 units, it took just about 30 days for my follicles to respond. The remaining cycles, Dr. Karmon introduced a steroid with the Femara in the beginning of the cycle to hopefully help my follicles react sooner. With the steroid it took my follicles less than a week of follistim!!!! After my last failed IUI, we discussed IVF and are due to start the medication once I get my period.

Describe Anatte Karmon's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii.
Dr. Karmon highly recommended eSET and said that she would allow up to two but really preferred to do one because my husband and I are both young and healthy.
Dr Karmon is amazing and she has faith in what she does and she will be there every step of the way with you...had a plan from the very beginning of my treatment and we stuck to it. No unexpected changes was added, and everything went smooth... is very pleasant, knowledgeable, kind and understanding. She took the time with me to help me understand my treatment and my plan that she had for us. She was able to answer all my questions and just be my person throughout every step of the way.

Emily (receptionist) so sweet and kind, she always took the time to talk to me when she appeared to be so busy at multitasking...They helped me with every injection teaching, every question I may have had, every tiny anxiety attack (thinking I did it wrong, when I didn't) They made everything seem like a breeze and time flew by during my treatments

She [Dr. Karmon] is very professional and as you work with her more you’ll see that she is a very warm person...After a few failed rounds of clomid with my regular OB, we tried two IUIs, then at Dr. Karmon’s recommendation, we went straight for IVF. She felt we should do IVF not only from a cost standpoint but because I was a good candidate for it to be successful...At our request, Dr. Karmon let us put in two frozen embryos for the first transfer which resulted in a successful pregnancy and birth of our son. For the second round, I discussed the risks with her and we decided on one which has resulted in a positive pregnancy with a baby girl due in June.
Around $11,500 for everything [at Advanced Reproductive Medicine and Gynecology of Hawaii] - PGS, IVF, drs visits, meds, etc...They are very busy! But the staff is great. They do have locations around the island so sometimes scheduling can be difficult if you only have certain times/days and your dr is at other clinic locations on certain days. They are pretty good about being on time for your appointments, parking is validated and basically everything can be done in office.

Dr. Karmon was was very direct and clear in her communication. We saw her at almost every appointment and she was a great match for us. How was your experience with Anatte Karmon at Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii?
After 7 years trying to get a baby, three clinics, two countries, we were lucky enough to find Dr.Karmon. She was the only one in that long period of time, that saw the whole picture, was clear, realistic still with hope and candid manners. She's the only one that saw at 44 of age a chance to find new explanations on why things were not working like nobody before even thought, and boom! we have now a pretty little baby girl. Some is being persistent, financial wise or helped, courageous, strong and focussed, some luck helps too, but you need for sure a great doctor, and that's Dr.Karmon

Describe the protocols Anatte Karmon used in your cycles at Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii and their degree of success.
After many cycles, egg retrievals, fertilizations, pgd's etc etc we did with her only one more egg retrieval (we've had 3 frozen embryos tested at that time, but after way too many loses we wanted to be on the most possible safer side). It did not work and it was us suggesting no more retrievals and the next step accepted, offered before hand by Dr Karmon to study for possible polyps (one was there and was minimally invasively removed) and the great ERA study, to find out the need of extra or less hormones to be able con conceive in a fake cycle as far as I can explain it non-medically. Both things prepared the uterus and we were able to get pregnant. By month 3 you definitely need as well a good obgyn, specially if you are on the "considered" risk age for pregnancy.

We only had a problem with a lab that came back negative and ended up being positive. On the third preg.test. I guess that was meant to be, machines fail and it could always happen. It helped us to show endurance and it ended up being something minor and accidental. The clinic has all strengths you can imagine and I cannot think on weaknesses. Dr.Karmon had a baby when we were taken care of, so Dr.Fratarelli took care of us once or twice. Although we've seen him only a couple of times just being sited at the waiting area, he was fully aware of our situation and medical procedures...meaning coordination is great as well.

What specific things went wrong at Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii?
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Advanced Reproductive Medicine & Gynecology of Hawaii.
I've told that before, it was just a frustration that lasted 48 hs after our third pregnancy test that apparently came back negative. And then we had a phone call the next day to go and repeat the test, because it seemed the machine have had a mistake or wrong information and they wanted to make sure.
She [Dr. Anatte Karmon] was attentive and seemed to treat us as an individual case. Not just putting our situation in a box. Very factual. She still had a joking manner when necessary which made her seem “ more human”, she made my husband feel at ease which is super difficult. Cancelled a cycle though based on the numbers she could have went through with procedure but felt we could do better. I trusted her opinion
From the phlebotomists to the nurses and doctors [at Advanced Reproductive Center of Hawaii] great experience. The semen collection room could be more discreet the staff waiting for collection were sometimes impatient and could be heard through the door . The egg retrieval was not as easy as they say it would be...[nurses were] Super sweet, timely, patient optimistic, excellent communicator and educator...Before egg retrieval we did the out of pocket expense like testosterone and coenzyme q10. First cycle had fewer follicles then tried a different birth control approach less time in BC and started the testosterone had 3 more follicle which increased my egg count.
How was your experience with Anatte Karmon at Advanced Reproductive Center of Hawaii?
She was attentive and seemed to treat us as an individual case. Not just putting our situation in a box. Very factual. She still had a joking manner when necessary which made her seem “ more human”, she made my husband feel at ease which is super difficult. Cancelled a cycle though based on the numbers she could have went through with procedure but felt we could do better. I trusted her opinion

She offered her opinion but made it my decision pros and cons explained.
I rarely saw her [Dr. Anatte Karmon], she only did one ultrasound and my egg retrieval. It was my first time doing IVF so I had a lot of questions. I didn't always feel like she had the time to explain things to me. She was a nice person but did not have the warmest bedside manner.... She did not really explain things to me in as much detail as I would have liked. She did not do all of my monitoring, just the egg retrieval. Her bedside manner was not the warmest.
My IVF coordinator nurse Jae [at ARMG] was amazing. She was warm and compassionate. She answered all of my silly questions and made me feel like she really cared. I feel like she knew me better than my doctor and I spent far much time with her.... Since it was my first IVF she [Dr. Anatte Karmon] used a high dose of meds, as no one knew how my body would react.

[Dr. Karmon] gave me the best individualized care!...I love Dr. Karmon from the initial consult to my egg retreival. I saw her at every visit and she did my surgery. She's very passionate about what she does and goes over every option a patient has based on their characteristics...Be open about your concerns. Dr. Karmon is so good at answering any questions you have and makes you feel at ease about the process...
My coordinator [at Advanced Reproductive Center of Hawaii] was the best! She too answered all my questions and made going over medication instructions so simple for me to do at home...The feeling you get once you walk through the doors is so welcoming. The receptionist knows you from day one and the phlebotomist is so great at her job you wouldn't mind getting your blood drawn. The medical staff knows what's going on and if the provider is running a bit behind they will inform you. The staff is also very aware of time (if you don't have enough of it and you need to go back to work) they communicate with the providers if you're in a hurry and need to leave.

I was doing an IUI while on vacation which was unusual for them but they treated me like they would any other patient -- with care.... I wasn't assigned a doctor as we were just doing an IUI. But as a whole it was a good experience with everyone we came into contact with. I'm not sure the name of the person who performed the IUI; she was kind and informative.
This clinic [Advanced Reproductive Med and Gynecology of HI] was willing to work with my clinic back home to make my IUI happen while on vacation. It was pretty simple as all of my monitoring was done at my home clinic. They were happy to help and took good care of me.... approx. $230 for an IUI with sperm washing (not including monitoring)... [Dr. Anatte Karmon is] very welcoming, honest and warm. At times puzzled with what to do next but confident in the choices she had for us, during the down times she was very incuragaing that it will happen hopefully and didn’t give up in helping me through a tough time. Very passionate about helping families grow...trying to find the right balance of hormone shots everyday taking a bunch of vitamins to help with healthy eggs, a million ultrasounds that I loved going to and when we got pregnant shots in the butt that hurt but so worth it.
[The nurse at IVF Hawaii are] Always warm and welcoming, by far one of the best nursing staff I ever encountered, they knew you by name and friendly and made you feel like part of the family...Sometimes they would be behind schedule but no matter where you go you’re gonna wait. I love that they follow up on your treatments and if things don’t go your way the 1st or 2nd time around they understand how you maybe feeling and they don’t make you feel alone. I can’t think of any weaknesses, they have good communication with each other.
