Her [Dr. Nolte] treatments are personalized to your particular problem...The gianna center offers an alternative to jumping straight into IVF...Dr. Nolte and the Gianna center is a catholic women center that focus on naprotechnology methods. A lot of emphasis is placed on charting your cycles using the creighton method-which is helpful-but if you do not wish to chart your cycles in this way, then you should not go there. Dr. Nolte takes time to come to the underlying root cause of infertility, doing more extensive testing compared to other more larger fertility centers I have been too.
Everyone [at Gianna Center] is caring and friendly and you can have ultrasounds and doctor visits as well as bloods taken all in one visit...This clinic is small and intimate so no loud name calling or the conveyor belt like feeling. It is a catholic womens center but at no stage during any of my visits was religion brought up in my treatment plan. They offer an alternative to IVF or IUI and try to get to the root cause of fertility issues. They use assisted fertility methods such as hormone replacement, ovulationary stimulants and natural based methods.

You must be open to charting your cycle.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) at Gianna Center - Manhattan?
The Gianna Clinic is small and everyone to the nurses, receptionist and Dr. Nolte know your name. Dr. Nolte is extremely personable and nice. She listens to your concerns and does not dismiss questions or concerns.
Describe the protocols Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at Gianna Center - Manhattan and their degree of success.
Dr. Nolte has places me on HCG injections post ovulation, three days after I ovulate. I inject HCG every two days until Day 9 and test progesterone levels.
Dr. Nolte also recommended a series of vitamin like supplements to enhance mucus production and hormone balance. Some cycles when we choose I will have an ultrasound to check follicle growth and size.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Gianna Center - Manhattan. (Assigned nurse: Laura Adams)
My first visit to the Gianna came during a chemical pregnancy which was not being managed well my my prior physician. Laura talked me through a number of aspects on the phone and looked my blood leaves. She encouraged me to come in and see her and Dr. Nolte and it was then I became a patient of the Gianna center. Every month Laura called me with my progesterone levels and manages my HCG prescriptions. The ultrasound nurse therese is also very nice, and compassionate.

The first appointment with Dr. Nolte is $300-of which you spend 1hour with her personally going through your history etc. After that, it is a co-apy of $20 with my insurance. Ultrasounds $30 with insurance. You have to do a charting course $40 and regularly review your chart with a charting counselor ($40)

Dr. Nolte always spends a generous amount of time without patients while somehow managing to stay on schedule. She is compassionate and truly worked with my goals ... She reviews patients charts (the Creighton model of natural family planning is used at this particular center) extensively, making modifications to treatments as needed. She is patient, thorough, helpful, supportive and spends a lot of time educating patients...She helped me carefully evaluate surgeons for the excision of endometriosis, not pressuring me at all to choose her partner
This is a clinic [Gianna Center] that practices medicine in accordance with Catholic medical ethics, but it is open to everyone regardless of affiliation....The nurses here are all compassionate and welcoming. Sometimes there seems to be a lack of clarity on how Dr. Nolte had instructed a medication to be taken, but generally the nurses are on the same page, good about calling with results and instructing next steps...This clinic is not based off of a purely for-profit model, and that comes with strengths and weaknesses, but in my experience mainly strengths - everyone in that office has a special reason for being there and wanting to help you with your reproductive health goals.
How was your experience with Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) at Gianna Center - Manhattan?
Dr. Nolte is very thorough in her evaluation and is unique in that she works with patients charts (the same concept as basal body temperature charting but different) after patients are trained in that charting method (by nurses on site). She helped me carefully evaluate surgeons for the excision of endometriosis, not pressuring me at all to choose her partner at the Gianna Center in NJ (whom I ultimately went with and was very happy with). I leave each appointment understanding my body, cycle and hormone levels more and supported on whatever step is next.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) at Gianna Center - Manhattan?
If you are completely closed to learning a (new) way to chart your cycles, this is not the place for you. There is a learning curve, but it is immensely rewarding.

Describe your experience with Gianna Center - Manhattan.
This is a clinic that practices medicine in accordance with Catholic medical ethics, but it is open to everyone regardless of affiliation. It is great if you are not using hormonal contraceptives for any number of reasons but want to prevent pregnancy, and it is great if you are trying to become pregnant as well. Anticipate a lot of education, many resources and support regardless of your goals (including adoption). This clinic is not based off of a purely for-profit model, and that comes with strengths and weaknesses, but in my experience mainly strengths - everyone in that office has a special reason for being there and wanting to help you with your reproductive health goals.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) at Gianna Center - Manhattan.
The center does everything they can to treat everyone. They are an in-network provider. I only paid co-pays, and only a few things (less than $100) weren't covered by insurance. My insurance did not cover ultrasounds done in their office, but they only charge $50 for them! I had to pay some out of pocket for HCG injections but I think that is fairly normal. This center is not about profit but instead is motivated to provide affordable, high quality care and I think they do a great job at that.
What specific things went wrong at Gianna Center - Manhattan?
- Failed to call with results
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Gianna Center - Manhattan.
On rare occasion I did not receive a call with hormone results, but wasn't overly concerned because it was not an hcg test and I could get my results later on the lab's site.

Dr Nolte is extremely caring compassionate and knowledgeable. She clearly has a passion for her work and I have never had a more empathetic Doctor. She was a true partner in the process....There is a lot of work involved in learning to chart appropriately and to some degree you need to let go and trust the process (particularly as the methods are a bit unorthodox). But it is so worth it!
Gianna Center for women is a women's reproductive health clinic that uses interventions that try to work naturally with the woman's body and cycle by learning about what exactly is causing the fertility issues rather than treating a symptom. They do not provide the more invasive treatments of IUI or IVF due to Christian values (not the reason I chose the clinic but that is their history). Rather, they use low doses of medications and hormonal treatments and rely on frequent ultrasound monitoring to analyze cycles. The method also places emphasis on the patient to learn about her body's cycles and chart. (However they fully teach the method to patients as part of the treatment).

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) at Gianna Center - Manhattan?
Dr. Nolte took extreme care in the first consultation to thoroughly review my charting and provide a detailed explanation/diagnosis, all while treating me with respect and a positive attitude
Describe the protocols Anne Nolte (OB/GYN) used in your cycles at Gianna Center - Manhattan and their degree of success.
Dr Nolte used NaPro technology treatment. This involved very careful charting on my part using the Creighton method, and my treatment involved use of low doses of clomid and naltrexone to stimulate ovulation, frequent ultrasound monitoring of cycles, timed hcg injection to cause follicle rupture, and strategies for increasing cervical mucus such as mucinex, amoxicillin, vitamin b6, and progesterone treatment during luteal phase.
On first consultation (due to charts I had brought in and my history of type 1 diabetes) I was diagnosed with hypothalamic amenorrhea and specifically had luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome which was not picked up by previous Doctor. I also had problems with premenstrual bleeding and cervical mucus deficiencies, all of which were treated with the above techniques. I had had an HSG test done and my partner had SA and both were fine.
It took a few cycles to realize (with ultrasound monitoring) about the LUFS, after which point the hcg injections were added.
I became pregnant on the 6th cycle working with dr Nolte and carried to term. I had progesterone injections during the first 10 weeks of the pregnancy.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Gianna Center - Manhattan. (Assigned nurse: Beth Hanson)
I mostly worked with Beth Hanson and also another nurse Christina. The nurses at the Gianna center for women's health are all extremely kind and caring and take their time to thoroughly go over everything that's needed. Gianna is perhaps unique in that the nurses are also teachers of the Creighton method of fertility charting

My insurance was out of network for office visits but the fees were very reasonable, like 30-40 per visit. In learning the Creighton method there was a small copay. The ultrasound visits were very expensive due to frequency but luckily these were covered by my insurance.

Charting using the Creighton Fertility Care Model and monitoring hormone levels and follicle growth in conjunction with the chart. Dr. Nolte then only treats what appears to need treatment. This approach is more conservative than some doctors and works with a woman's natural fertility.... She is very thorough and kind! She took the time to observe and respond to things that other doctors had looked over. She considered me as a full partner in my treatment and respected my questions, concerns and suggestions.
