I saw Dr. Sagoskin once to consult on my treatment plan. Then I was assigned a nurse, which acts a go between for you and the doctor, but my nurse changed multiple times...We were told the consultation would take 30 minutes, but we probably were with him for 10 minutes...He gave us a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and recommended an IUI treatment cycle for three months. I was hesitant and wanted to try timed intercourse with the fertility drugs first, which he agreed to.
SGF definitely has a lot of experience treating infertility, as evidenced from the always crowded waiting rooms at the clinic. And while your treatment plan may be personalized, you shouldn't expect to get a lot of personal attention, as you see and communicate with different doctors and nurses during and between each appointment...Despite these shortcomings, I got the result I wanted and am now 10 weeks pregnant, and I know other women who have also had successful pregnancies as a result of treatment at SGF.
How was your experience with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Our initial consult with Dr. Sagoskin was the only time we saw him. He gave us a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and recommended an IUI treatment cycle for three months. I was hesitant and wanted to try timed intercourse with the fertility drugs first, which he agreed to. We ended up switching to his original IUI plan during the next cycle. We were told the consultation would take 30 minutes, but we probably were with him for 10 minutes.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
SGF felt like a factory. I saw Dr. Sagoskin once to consult on my treatment plan. Then I was assigned a nurse, which acts a go between for you and the doctor, but my nurse changed multiple times. And while the factory produced effective results, it wasn't always efficient (i.e. scheduling problems, long wait times). My husband was also diagnosed with a pituitary tumor during our treatment at SGF, which is why I decided to switch from timed intercourse (with fertility drugs) to IUI, but not once did the doctor or nurse ask how he was doing.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Leah/Allyson/Priscilla)
Something happened to the first nurse I was assigned to. I was handed off to a new nurse and then later handed off again to another nurse. They usually answered my email questions or provided after visit instructions after appointments via the phone during the week, but during the weekend or sometimes even during the week, I would end up getting instructions from completely different nurses.

And while your treatment plan may be personalized, you shouldn't expect to get a lot of personal attention, as you see and communicate with different doctors and nurses during and between each appointment. Have patience and ask for payment receipts as their front desk seems to be switching between payment and scheduling systems. Don't feel pressured to pay your account balance when you check out before receiving an itemized bill -- I was asked to do this several times and got annoyed not knowing what treatments/tests I was being asked to pay for. Despite these shortcomings, I got the result I wanted and am now 10 weeks pregnant, and I know other women who have also had successful pregnancies as a result of treatment at SGF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
My insurance (Kaiser) was able to adjust the below prices and covered 50% of my treatments, except the OB ultrasounds. SGF applied a self-pay discount for these. I got my fertility drugs from a combination of the Kaiser pharmacy and RARX pharmacy for about $100 each cycle; the latter was recommended by SGF.
IUI: $360
OB ultrasound: $230
Regular transvaginal ultrasound: $215
Blood draws: $15
Blood tests: $65-90
Initial consult: $160
What specific things went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
The doctor [Dr. Sagoskin] personally called me with sensitive information and had a warm bedside manner...genuine and listens to our concerns. He also is ready with a next plan for us so we can move forward when we are ready. He has tailored my medication each time to get better results and has been supportive when we went through a chemical pregnancy. He is good at communicating when questions arise and is very helpful at explaining terminology and gray areas of fertility..
Great care! [at Shady Grove Fertility] Doctors are sympathetic and sensitive and nurses are skilled and great at managing patient concerns and questions. I have felt supported at each stage of the process by our clinic. I have enjoyed the professionalism and overall great atmosphere of my visits. It’s a busy place, which can create stress and long waits for patients....She [nurse] assumed I was coming back in to the clinic because my levels were going up when in fact I had a chemical pregnancy and I was doing tests to ensure the number went down below 5. This was a difficult time and I thought the nurse could have checked my record before making the comment she did...

Wonderful attention from my primary nurse. One nurse made me feel very bad when she asked if it was my last blood work to check HCG levels, saying it was exciting. She assumed I was coming back in to the clinic because my levels were going up when in fact I had a chemical pregnancy and I was doing tests to ensure the number went down below 5. This was a difficult time and I thought the nurse could have checked my record before making the comment she did.

Weaknesses [of Dr. Arthur Sagoskin] -- hard to get a hold of. Could be better at explaining the why of what we were doing. Strengths -- seemed very knowledgable and very experienced. I trust him because he's been doing this for 30 years...He's compassionate but can be candid and blunt when appropriate...When there was bad news, he called me to talk to me in person and explain the next steps
Feels a little bit like a number [at Shady Grove Fertility clinic]. Different nurses, ultrasound technicians, and doctors every day. Was never given a way to contact doctor directly. However, they were relatively efficient and had their procedures down cold. Embryo lab world class...Did multi-cycle discount (2 for the price of about 1.5 cycles)...sometimes they got backed up 30-45 minutes

When there was bad news, he called me to talk to me in person and explain the next steps. Wish it was easier to get a hold of him and ask questions. I definitely don't doubt his expertise and trust him, but I have a scientific mind and Type A personality so it puts my mind at ease to know just what we are doing but why we are doing it.
Describe the protocols Arthur Sagoskin (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
Estrogen priming protocol with 600 IU of gonatropins. Microdose lupron 2nd cycle slightly lower doses. Microdose lupron with longer time between trigger and retrieval (37 hours vice 36) for third cycle. Lowered does of meds on third cycle to prevent OHSS. Have not gotten results on third cycle yet, but best egg yield by a factor of 3.
Protocols chosen because diminished ovarian reserve. Did not respond much on EPP. Responded well on microdose lupron the first time. Second time responded very well (and possibly too well). Changed retrieval interval to improve egg maturity.

The only thing that went wrong was scheduling the 3rd appointment which was to do a specific diagnostic procedure. It was a minor inconvenience but it could have delayed things a month.
He [Dr. Arthur Sagoskin] has retired now so no one can have him as their Dr. he was not a bad doctor but we felt he just wanted to keep us spending money. He always was able to fit us in for a face to face appointment and we did a zoom call appointment too which was great! He charged a lot for the appointments and we were hurried in and out so we always had our questions and concerns written out so we knew what to say in the short time with him.
Go in prepared to your [Shady Grove Fertility] appointments and know how much you are willing to spend, do not let them tell you how much it all is. Also this clinic is not the only one so shop around...[nursing staff was] Curt and cold!!! I always felt like I was in their way and making trouble for them just showing to my appointment on time but they would make me wait 30-45 min sometimes just to get my blood drawn.

Write out your questions before hand and always request a detailed report of everything discussed at the appointment as well as write down his responses. Keep a journal or calendar of everything just for this, it’s nice to see what the protocol was and see if he changes or scales the protocol with each cycle.

I felt it was more about making money, pushing expensive non-covered procedures which did help us in conceiving.
Describe the protocols Arthur Sagoskin (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
We first did IVF and retrieved 10 of my eggs. He recommended Genetic testing after we fertilized the eggs with my husbands sperm to ensure no genetic defects. He explained the benefits of genetic screening and we agreed, he also showed us the statistics on frozen versus fresh transfer rates of success and we were comfortable with freezing our embryos. After the first failure he recommended I go see a Dr to have scar tissue and fibroids removed before next transfer. It took almost a year of procedures including having my fallopian tubes removed due to toxic drainage into my interim preventing implantation. After all that the second and final embryo transfer failed. We had no choice but to do another round of IVF since we were talked into paying for the Multi Program $24,000 price tag. That round the Dr only retrieved 5 eggs and after testing none of them were normal. He told us his diagnosis was that my endometrium lining was too thin and that now due to my age my eggs were poor quality so an Egg Donor and a surrogate to carry would be our best chance for a baby. This conclusion was a sad one which we felt could have and should been suggested to us instead of $1000’s of dollars of procedures. We spent over $70,000 of procedures we could put toward donor eggs and a surrogate. So we were left with this doctor all about money.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
They forgot to call in medications once. It was taken care of as soon as I notified them and they apologized but it made me nervous. I also ran out of medications and they wouldn’t call in the med order but sold me a vial of medication from the office which was a life saver.
[Dr. Sagoskin] was patient with all of our questions and concerns, but I do not feel he grasped the full history of our fertility issues. He would ask questions, but did not gather a full timeline (including medication and miscarriages) until we brought it up or walked him through it...He did not perform any of the monitoring appointments or treatments, even when it was on a weekday and he was in the office
Shady Grove is excellent in caring for their patients. The appointments are quick, but allow plenty of time to ask questions or concerns. My only issue would be the delay the Financial department had in receiving the Treatment referral from our insurance. It took me coordinating between my insurance and the finance department for the referral to come through and it was too late to cover the treatment we were receiving. We had to pay out of pocket for the first IUI.
How was your experience with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
We liked Dr. Sagoskin the minute we met him. He was very clear with the direction he wanted to take and was reassuring that we could figure out what is preventing us from getting pregnant and overcome it. He was patient with all of our questions and concerns, but I do not feel he grasped the full history of our fertility issues. He would ask questions, but did not gather a full timeline (including medication and miscarriages) until we brought it up or walked him through it. I thought he was well qualified for his position, but could have been a little more clinical with us.
He did not perform any of the monitoring appointments or treatments, even when it was on a weekday and he was in the office. This was disappointing as I would think he would be the one that knows the most about our fertility. That said, when I was not responding to medication, he quickly made adjustments so that we would not have to skip that cycle.
All in all, he is is good doctor and knows what he is doing. I think my only complaint is the lack of presence he has outside of his office/consults.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Make sure you plan out your questions in advance and be sure to inform him of your history at the first consultation.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Dr. Sagoskin was gentile, but direct with us about our options. He answered our questions and concerns about our fertility and took the time to walk us through what was causing our issues.
I did not give him the top score, because the second time we met with him he did not review our chart or remember our issues until after we brought it up. Some of our questions were brushed off until we pointed out historical patterns.
Describe the protocols Arthur Sagoskin (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
Dr. Sagoskin suggested we start with 3 medicated IUI cycles with a trigger shot before moving to IVF. WHen I was not responding to Letrozole, he doubled the dose and had me return to monitor the progress after finishing the course of medication. He had me in for monitoring every other day or so until the IUI.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
During our first consult, the front desk lost the first page of my application. This included a lot of important information about my health and fertility issues. I had to redo the page. It was not a big deal, just inconvenient.
he [Dr. Sagoskin] is very blunt. So if you need that compassion, you will not get it from him...I did a 2 and 3rd cycle of non-medicated IUIs. Both failed and the of course the next treatment option recommended is IVF. Instead of trying to figure out what our issue is or at least taking the time to rule out issues, IVF is suggested. I just think it would be wise to attempt to find our issue so the IVF has a chance of being successful. I realize someone couples have unexplained fertility, but that means due diligence was given to find a diagnosis. I’m so confused how they would continue treatment on me not ever attempting to see if they can find my issue.
The clinic [Shady Grove Fertility-Rockville] for the most part is ok. It’s clean, they have convenient appointment availability, and you are in an out. I would say it feels kind of like an assembly line with ladies lining up back to back. It’s not a warm feeling and the vibe feeling more like a commercial business than a doctors office...It was just like I was another number at this clinic and with this doctor. My individual case was not taken into consideration or seriously. My voice and concerns were not heard. When I asked questions or voiced my concerns, I was ignored.
How was your experience with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
I had one office visit with Dr. S and one telephone visit. Each time, it ended with me in tears. It was mostly because of his lack of compassion...if you need that from your fertility doctor, you will not get that from him. My husband was ok with his bluntness and lack of bedside manner, but it just elevated my already sensitive feelings. He made me feel worse than what I was already feeling due to my problems with infertility. He is also quick to jump to IVF which was also a problem for me. He never gave me a diagnosis which also troubled me since he was so quick to “prescribe” IVF. I can’t say it was anything I liked about him because I only had 2 visits with him. And those 2 visits were not pleasant. Nurses and other doctors completed my IUIs and I’m only allowed to communicate with him through his nurse. The nurses are not much better and blow off my questions I asked about non-invasive treatment options.

Dr. S ordered the “regular” initial treatments for us. Without having a diagnosis for our infertility. He suggested 3 rounds of IUI with Clomid. After the 1 failed IUI with Clomid, when I went for the 2nd IUI, I had developed cysts (detectable via ultrasound). He then advised I skip that cycle and try another IUI cycle the following month. Since I don’t have any fertility diagnosis, I didn’t want to keep taking Clomid since my body was not reacting positively to it, so I asked him if I could do an non-medicated IUI. He complied and I did a 2 and 3rd cycle of non-medicated IUIs. Both failed and the of course the next treatment option recommended is IVF. Instead of trying to figure out what our issue is or at least taking the time to rule out issues, IVF is suggested. Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The one problem I had when I was a new patient is that they hadn’t called in my prescriptions. It wasn’t a huge deal but I did have to wait at the pharmacy for quite some time to get it worked out.
Egg retrieval treatment protocol [with Dr. Arthur Sagoskin] included birth control for almost three weeks. Then we did 900 IU Gonal-F plus 150 ml of Menopur everyday for 12 days as I have a slightly higher FSH and a middle of the road AMH. The Menopur was increased to 225 in the last three or four days because my follicles needed a little extra boost to get to the desired size (they were kinda stuck around 18mm-20mm). Cetrotide was given at day 5 or 6 for the rest of the stimulation cycle to keep me from ovulating. HCG was used for the trigger, and I took an (crazy) antibiotic the day before my retrieval.
You do not see the doctor enough [at Shady Grove Fertility- Rockville]. For as much as these procedures cost, you'd think you'd see your doctor at least once during your monitoring. But you don't. You see other doctors who someones come in to help you understand your monitoring. The billing department is literally impossible to deal with. It doesn't matter if you contract says specifically what they will and won't cover based on your fee, if they have another list (a list you haven't been provided) that says your fee doesn't cover a particular service - even if that service seems completely logical to the IVF process (not something special), you will be charged extra. That said, their shared risk program is pretty amazing if you think you have a chance of not getting pregnant on your first try.
How was your experience with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Overall, I like him. If someone were to go to Shady Grove, I'd recommend him. My problems are more with how the clinic is run as a whole (which as a founding doctor of the clinic, I guess means that I disagree with Dr. Sagoskin's approach in that regard.)
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Write down all your questions beforehand. Do not leave until you've had them all answered. He is willing to answer, but you have to ask.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
We first starting meeting with Dr. Sagoskin a few years ago but my husband really didn't like his bedside manner. I kind of didn't care, but he did somewhat treat us like a number in our first consultation with him. Plus, Shady Grove is quite expensive so we tried a different doctor/clinic for our first round, which proved unsuccessful. We decided to come back to Shady Grove and meet again with Dr. Sagoskin. It was like he was a different person. He was warm, he answered all our questions, we didn't feel rushed. He was great, and has been great when it comes to the side of making us feel "human" since we started seeing him again in 2018.

Cetrotide was given at day 5 or 6 for the rest of the stimulation cycle to keep me from ovulating. HCG was used for the trigger, and I took an (crazy) antibiotic the day before my retrieval. (That thing was terrible and gave me the worst stomach cramps and diarrhea.) Egg retrieval resulted in 8 eggs, of which only 6 were mature. 5 eggs were fertilized, but only 2 made it to day 5. I began using Endomentrin progesterone inserts 3 times per day, the day after the retrieval through the transfer and up until the pregnancy test. I also took Estrace (Estradiol) daily. One embryo was transferred, and the other was frozen. The fresh transfer resulted in a negative pregnancy test 13 days later.
The frozen embryo transfer treatment protocol: I began with birth control for two weeks, after which I began taking Estrace (Estradiol) three times per day. On day 16, after they checked my uterine lining which was 12mm, I began using 1mL of progesterone oil once every three days. I also started Endometrin inserts twice daily. On day six of injecting and inserting progesterone, I had one frozen embryo transferred that used assisted hatching. That was yesterday so I will have to update in 13 days as to the results.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Tina)
Initially I was no pleased with the nursing/care coordinators in Dr. Sagoskin's staff. They seemed annoyed by questions or overwhelmed by patient load. At one point I was foisted off of one care coordinator who abruptly left the office for another one in the Shady Grove family, and I had no one helping me, which was super frustrating because I was starting my first fresh cycle with Shady Grove in two weeks. Finally, I got frustrated and worried about some medication issues I was having and went straight to the clinic without and appointment, requesting to see Tina (as she had been my sort-of contact without actually having been assigned my case.) She took care of me, she was kind and patient. She got me some samples when I ran out of medication and she listened to me when I told her how scared I was about all the costs running up. I had spent so much money and didn't know what to do. She helped. Then she gave me her direct number and told me that she was officially adding me as her patient, that way there would be no more confusion. Tina has been amazing.

That said, their shared risk program is pretty amazing if you think you have a chance of not getting pregnant on your first try. Keep in mind, though, that the shared risk program does not cover the injection class (even though it is not stated in the contract that it is not covered, and since it is held at the clinic by clinic staff, should logically be covered by the shared risk program). Also, meeting with your doctor after a failed IVF cycle under the shared risk program to discuss next steps (also seems like a necessary visit that should logically be included in the cost) is also NOT covered in the shared risk program. So basically, you pay your $20,000+ and still have to pay extra to see your doctor throughout your failed attempts. That's super annoying. A strength, though, is that they do have very good medication specialists to figure out your medication coverage through insurance. My first fresh cycle with Shady Grove was with a different health insurance, so it wasn't covered. However, my insurance changed and they have been appealing my insurance denials, and winning! So, if I need to go through another fresh cycle, I will probably have much smaller payments for medication. Fingers crossed. Their care coordinators are great and incredibly responsive.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
The costs for diagnosis were pretty expensive, especially since some weren't covered by insurance. Many were, but most weren't. And if you lapse by three years, you have to redo everything. Semen analysis is $150/time. My husband has had to do this four times. The female diagnosis (mock embryo and HSG were...$800(?) with Shady Grove). The medication costs for egg retrieval were nearly $6000. The Shared Risk Program was $19,500.
Describe Arthur Sagoskin (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
He has told me flat out that he will not transfer more than one embryo for me. I do not know his stance on multiple embryo transfer in general, but he said that I was too thin to chance having multiples. (I'm not that thin. I'm 5'7" and weigh 140lbs.) This is one of the few issues I've had personally with Dr. Sagoskin as this wasn't even allowed a discussion.

Again, the billing department is difficult. They keep charging me for things that should be covered under the Shared Risk program contract, like meeting with my doctor to go over next steps after a failed cycle, and the injection class which our care coordinator said we needed to take.
The front desk has also failed to check me into my monitoring appointments TWICE. I've sat in the waiting room for a half hour watching all these people go through who have come in much later than me. It wasn't until I went and asked if I had come to my appointment early, that they went "Oh! So sorry, you weren't checked in. We'll figure that out right now." So an appointment early in the morning that usually only takes 30 minutes from check in to check out is now over an hour. Not great when you need to get to work on time.
He [Dr. Arthur Sagoskin] is very friendly and patient with my wife and I when we asked a lot of questions. He was able to make time for a last minute appointment when my cycle started and we realized my first IUI didn't work. He has always been on time for our appointments and never once rushed us.
We have enjoyed Shady Grove Rockville. The offices are beautiful. The desk staff are always so friendly and kind. The nurses who take blood have also been very gentle and kind. The Dr who did both of my IUIs was amazing and so friendly....Kate and Tina [nurses] are very friendly. When we are in person they are very warm and kind. They both answered all the questions we had. My cycle and questions always ended up happening when Tina was out of the office. It was hard to get in touch with her a few times. She also didn't place the order for my medication on time and I almost didn't receive it on time. I called the Pharmacy and it was noted that I was not in the system. I called and emailed Tina on Thursday but she was out of the office until Tuesday. She called me Tuesday afternoon and said that she talked to the Pharmacy and they would rush it to me. In the end it all worked out, however, she is just hard to reach sometimes.

We decided to do all the pretesting to make sure I had a good follicle count and my tubes were clear. We did an medicated IUI first and if it didn't take we would be doing medicated. That is what we are currently doing.

My nurse didn't send in the info to the pharmacy for my trigger shot. I called and was not in the system (Thursday) and Tina was out of the office until Tuesday morning. I was able to get my meds rushed to me to be able to have them before me before I needed them, so it all worked out.
Strengths [of Dr. Sagoskin]: experienced; knowledgable; offered suggestions for further testing (I wish he would have suggested a few tests must sooner); followed up after negative results and a lose; advocated for me during a miscommunication between my nurse/him/embryology. Weaknesses: disingenuous at times; not proactive at the right times (I offered up tests/procedures I would like to do, etc. and he would say "good idea" -- but shouldn't he have suggested them?); mildly responsive messages.
Strengths [of Shady Grove]: friendly staff, quick response times, great monitoring appointment times, usually minimal wait. Financial Counselors responsive. Weaknesses: Sometimes it feels like a factory, nurses and doctors lack empathy and need to think before they speak. Sensitivity training/refresher would be great for everyone. Recently added many more doctors and nurses and feels less personal, chaotic at times. What a new patient should know: Be realistic and take off the rose colored glasses. Prepare for failure. IVF is not always the answer, sometimes it doesn't work even after multiple attempts with seemingly great outcomes. Advocate for yourself, do your research, question everything, demand respect. Ask for detailed description of an egg retrieval, from talking to anesthesiologist in triage, to walking into operating room and what and who to expect to see. Take all of your pain meds after retrieval, even if you don't think you need them (you will). PGS test and only transfer normals (don't set yourself up for failure and heartbreak if you don't have to).

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Very personal attention when I first started seeing Dr. Sagoskin. Loved him and his no nonsense manner. 2+ years later and no success, I feel like I'm being treated more like a number and an inconvenience at times.
Describe the protocols Arthur Sagoskin (retired) used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA and their degree of success.
I was 38 when I started treatment.
Protocol 1: BCPs, Antagonist protocol, lower doses of Gonal F and Menopur, slow & long stim, Ganarelix, Lupron/HGC dual trigger. 20+ follicles, only 2 retrieved, both mature, both fertilized naturally, and 3-day transfer of visually great embryos, BFN.
Protocol 2: BCPs, Antagonist, higher doses of Gonal F and Menopur, slow & Ling stim,, Ganarelix, HCG trigger, (I demanded aftee the suggestion of two other REs) double-lumen needle during retrieval, 25 eggs retrieved, at least half mature, all fertilized naturally, 6 high grade blastocysts, eSET, positive beta (but low), doubled two times, then deceased and miscarried at 6 weeks (they say chemical since no heartbeat was seen, I consider a miscarriage). Frozen five 5-day blastocysts.
Protocol 3: BCPs, Antagonist, highest doses (yet) of Gonal F, Menopur, Ganarelix, slow stim, HCG trigger, double-lumen retrieval, 25 eggs retrieved, 13 mature, 13 fertilized with ICSI, freeze all with PGS testing, 2 6-day hatching blastocysts biopsied and frozen. Thawed 5 frozen blasts from Protocol 2, lost one in thaw, biopsied 4 for PGS testing and refroze. PGS tested 6 blasts, 2 (1 from protocol 2 and one from protocol 3) tested as PGS normal.
FET #1: BCPs, Non-injectable E2 and P4 administered vaginally. eSET PGS normal 6-day blast from Protocol 3, BFN.
Before next FET elected to do Endometrial Receptivity Array (ERA) biopsy/testing with BCPs then Injectable E2 and P4 + 5 days. Biopsy returned "non-receptive".
Retest ERA with BCP then injectable E2 and P4 + 7 days. Biopsy returned "receptive".
Waiting to do transfer of remaining PGS normal 5-day blast from Protocol 2. Will do BCPs, then back to back Endometrial "scratches" (one tests for endometriosis, one may aid with implantation) and then transfer. Waiting for CD1 to start new FET protocol with Injectable E2 and P4 + 7.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Lindsay Friedman)
Very detailed and thorough. Extremely responsive with email and voicemail. Knowledgeable. Respected. We had a miscommunication that damaged our relationship, but we were able to put that aside. I trust her and would strongly recommend her to others patients.

I have some insurance coverage so meds for 2 of 3 cycles was fully covers and paid for one cycle of meds out-of-pocket. Specialist company's for each visit including monitoring. Insurance covered all procedures except for PGS testing (covered biopsy) and RhoGam shot after miscarriage (due to blood type).

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Miscommunication between RE/Nurse/Embryology and was told frozen embryos were thawed, all survived, Biopsied for PFS testing, and sent to genetics lab for testing. 2 weeks later, no results. They were never thawed or biopsied. Once they were we lost one. Embryology said it was REs fault. REcsaid it was Embryologies fault. Nurse communicated erroneously and damaged our relationship for a long time.
Sometimes felt like a number and sometimes felt like a human. Excellent doctor[Dr. Arthur Sagoskin] but not overly warm and fuzzy...He is knowledgeable, and experienced. I trusted him and his recommendations. He also listened to my concerns. He was conservative with my treatment and made sure I was comfortable with decisions, especially as we moved further along in the process...I had several nurses over the years , there seemed to be frequent turnover or changes. Lindsay was the one I worked with the most. She was very nice and great in person but her emails were often unclear or she didn't adequately answer my questions. More so with IVF.
Good reputation. Many locations. Open every day. Helpful financial counselors. Feel like a number at times tho due to volume of patients. Describe Arthur Sagoskin (retired)'s approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Dr. Sagoskin provided a reasoned strategy and was open to adjustments along the way as necessary.
My nurses Emily and Lindsay were fantastic, personal, detailed and thorough...Financial paperwork had to be corrected several times, with administrative staff trying to bill me for a procedure we were not pursuing.
How was your experience with Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
He was scientific and explained things in a way that respected my level of education (not 'dumbing down' the process). It was helpful attending the Rockville location so that he could personally oversee the majority of my treatment. Once I felt that he pushed a treatment (ICSY) that was more in the interest of his success rate than my personal wishes. But ultimately I respect and trust his expertise and ability to devise an individualized plan.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Arthur Sagoskin (retired) at Shady Grove Fertility WMA?
Don't hesitate to ask for updates and lots of information directly from the doctor.

He didn't really realize how painful the whole process was for us. However, he was friendly and explained things well.
Though they changed nurses on me during my treatment, I am actually glad they did cause my new nurse was awesome.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility WMA. (Assigned nurse: Donna Materia-Hoover)
Donna was always so fun. Yes we all knew the reason why where there, but she would not make it the focus of our meetings, if you understand what I mean. She would ask questions, engage us in conversations that had nothing to do with IVF or the needles I had to prick myself with. I sometimes just needed that.
[Dr. Arthur Sagoskin is] a great doctor but I think very senior and close to retirement. He has an entire team operating for him like a well-oiled machine so naturally he is checked out. Levels of compassion in the clinic can increase - it will help the patients psyche!...I don't know how they selected which eggs were good for freezing but they told me the total and then how many were quality enough to put on ice...it was hard for me to produce eggs but they didn't tell me that I can still produce as many as 20 and its total crapshoot. They made me feel as if I was an expired old lady at 37 and that my chances were super slim. This 100% added to my anxiety on the first round.
Great technology, environment and flexibility in scheduling [at Shady Grove Fertility]. Cold, distant attitudes to patients. You will be instructed well but you need to follow up and check in - some of the nurses do not return calls or messages very quickly and need to be chased after. Doctors should also be more available to patients and not just be present 5% of the time...Though great medical and scientific answers - the clinic does treat you like a number and even worse, when they see you are upset, do not comfort you with real facts. For instance, it was hard for me to produce eggs but they didn't tell me that I can still produce as many as 20 and its total crapshoot. They made me feel as if I was an expired old lady at 37 and that my chances were super slim. This 100% added to my anxiety on the first round.

A lot of preparation with videos on the procedure (feels like a bit of med school).
Lots of instructional conversations with the nurses, ordering of medicine, scheduling of appointments, injecting yourself (day-to-day) and final trigger shot.
You really give up 2 weeks of your life feeling as if you're 2 months pregnant - bloated, emotional and sensitive. Then it's over and takes about 1 month to feel normal again.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Shady Grove Fertility WMA.
Aside from one (very nice British lady in the facility named Tina) - they were all very cold and treated you like a number.
This is my primary complaint to the center - not so much because I'm a sensitive person but because I firmly believe that the attitude affects the psyche of patients and freaks them out which could result in poorer results.

I wasn't notified that I would need to come from NY to MD to be monitored on my 2nd cycle until 20 hours prior and it really stressed me out.
I found it unprofessional of the nurse but she tried to find me buses to get me down there and compensate to go above and beyond.
