While I appreciated that he [Dr. Sipe] would try to simply diagnosis and treatment for us (non-scientific folk), it came across as though he wasn’t as driven to get results - felt more like he was trying to be our friend. When after the second transfer (all from 1 Retrieval) we still weren’t pregnant, we changed treatment protocol for our 2nd Retrieval...He was always very personable and empathetic - he often tried to lighten the mood by making jokes.
There were always long waits on a Monday or holiday...mornings were certainly the busiest. They [FCI - Chi] definitely seem to over schedule themselves a lot! The billing team was always friendly, I felt like they were all rooting for us too! Not so much can be said for general reception. They would forget to record that you arrived (despite filling out a form) which meant you racked up lovely parking bills.

When after the second transfer (all from 1 Retrieval) we still weren’t pregnant, we changed treatment protocol for our 2nd Retrieval...we got less eggs but NO embryos. He recommended just going back to the initial protocol for our 3rd Retrieval (we decided to get a 2nd opinion instead).
He also didn’t fully disclose efficacy risks of freezing/thawing to genetic test/freezing to wait for Transfer/thawing for Transfer...we wasted 2 embryos that were perfectly fine

What specific things went wrong at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic)?
[Dr. Christopher Sipe] was very personable from he start. He was thorough with explaining treatment and was realistic with us. A lot of communication during treatment was via his nurse, she was great but would have preferred to have his email...easy to talk with, personalized care...I never felt like a bnumber... I felt I received individualized care
I never felt like a bnumber at FCI, how we I know some patients have said that. I felt I received individualized care. All transfers and procedures are done in their main clinic in Chicago. They have several offices throughout the suburbs. My nurse was available via email and responded promptly...All staff was wonderful!...They were open in early AM which made it convenient so that it didn’t impact work hours

Describe Christopher Sipe's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic).
Our first transfer we transferred 1 embryo (our “best”) one that resulted in a negative. The second transfer we transferred 2 - it was negative. Third transfer we transferred 2 and that resulted in a singleton pregnancy.
Dr. Sipe was friendly, but didn't explain things in detailed terms. Hr tip toed around questions. Really rush face to face interviews. I felt like a number and not a patient. I wish he would have done all tests before hand than waiting to test after failed cycle.... Never really took time and explained things really fast. Never give me straight answers.... The nurses were not compassionate. They never will returned calls back or give results on time. I think the nurses needed training on how to treat patients.

He [Dr. Sipe] is a wonderful doctor. The fact that I had a disappointing outcome was not due to him. Dr. Sipe always new our medical details rather than staring at a computer screen the whole time we spoke and also asked how we were thinking and feeling at different stages along the way...Be certain to bring specific questions. Especially if you will be having testing done outside the downtown Chicago location.
We started [at FCI] with 3 rounds of IUI with Clomid (5 days 50 mg start day 3). And ended up moving on to IVF with ICSI with assisted hatching using lupron, 75 units follistim and 75 units of menopur and 10 units of luprone 6pm-9pm for 5 days and then triggered with 500 HCG. After the 5 day transfer progesterone patch was used along with POI (until 11 weeks).

Top notch!...Awesome communicators, personable, caring, sympathetic. The best nurses I've encountered & I work in the medical field.

He [Dr. Christopher Sipe] is very friendly & honest. I think his biggest fault is the system he works in which is big & not personal. He explained the big picture, but left the nurses to explain the details. He was always willing to help out - especially in the donor egg process...He was personable. explained things fully to me. responded to my questions. was available by email...It's just really hit or miss with nurses at FCI. Some are amazing & others are just going through a protocol that they have to follow

He's [Dr. Christopher Sipe] blunt, which doesn't really bother me but may other people. My issue is he doesn't really listen to the patient...If your cycle is outside the standard 28 days, this may not be the doctor for you. You will be forced to have 2 failed transfers before a biopsy and that's a lot of time, energy (mental and physical), and money wasted...Patients already have very little control in the process
FCI is working off a lot of data. My egg retrievals used a minimum amount of drugs and I got better results. They provide scans on weekends and doctors are on call through the whole week to make sure retrivals are timed pretty well. Transfers are a nightmare if you don't get an ongoing pregnancy. You'll be forced to have 2 failed transfers, even if you tell them your cycles isn't the standard 28 days, before you can get a biopsy. If you have a miscarriage, they will not be timely or proactive in finding it (I recommend ordering your own quant hCG tests).
How was your experience with Christopher Sipe at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic)?
He's blunt, which doesn't really bother me but may other people. My issue is he doesn't really listen to the patient. When I transferred care to FCI I wanted a biopsy before we did a transfer knowing my body wasn't timed like other women, he refused and lost the embryo because when we did do the biopsy it showed I needed 6 days of support instead of 5 like other women. After the second transfer implanted, I bled and knew there was something wrong. I wanted an hCG test and was refused until well into the week after my hCG had already dropped to 25% of the second beta test. Again, I ignored and dismissed of my concerns which were well founded.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Christopher Sipe at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic)?

I miscarried on a Saturday, 17 days after my transfer. I was refused an hCG test until Wednesday afternoon and was told it would be meaningless by the doctor as only once a week OBs were supposedly meaningful at that point. We got the hCG results back the next day, Thursday (because I had missed the same day cut off the previous day) and it confirmed a miscarriage. I then wanted the final hCG test, to show it cleared my system, a couple days early with a scheduled OB but they canceled it on me without my consent. Patients already have very little control in the process, Dr. Sipe and his nurse, Karina, will do their best to remind you of this. If you stick with this team for transfers, you need to learn how to order your own quantitative hCG tests so you can be proactive with your care. (Also, if Karina told you IM injections aren't absorbed the same in your thigh vs your back, that's not true. And no, it doesn't have to be painful there.)
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic). (Assigned nurse: Karina)

IM injections are absorbable (and comfortable in my experience) in your thighs, you do not have to use your back. If you bleed after a transfer, hCG tests are absolutely necessary.
Never once did Dr Sipe call us personally to deliver any results or news as our new clinic has. Never once did he do any of our IUI’s himself. There is no personalized care...we received one quote from Dr Sipe and a much higher estimate and invoice from billing. It feels unclear on purpose...He said we could try IUI or injectables or go straight to IVF. Based on my age...He gave us a completely wrong estimate. Billing sent me an estimate that was triple what he quoted for IUI and IVF.
Our nurse [at Fertility Centers of Illinois] was gruff and rude...IVF and infertility is an extremely expensive, stressful and emotionally draining process. This clinic does nothing to make this process easier or more compassionate. If anything they make it 1,000% harder and 1,000% more confusing. Never once did Dr Sipe call us personally to deliver any results or news as our new clinic has. Never once did he do any of our IUI’s himself. There is no personalized care here. How was your experience with Christopher Sipe at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Our experience here was awful. While Dr Sipe is personable and nice, he unexpectedly went on medical leave in the middle of our treatment. We were not assigned another doctor in the practice to fill in for questions. Our nurse was gruff and rude about this.
Nurse Agnes and the woman at the front desk (Linda?) are unhelpful, rude and short. I dreaded working with Agnes or having to ask her any sort of question. She is impatient and cold. And with IVF you will have many many questions especially first timers.

Their billing is not clear and we received one quote from Dr Sipe and a much higher estimate and invoice from billing. It feels unclear on purpose.
When you want your medical records released they are basically held hostage unless you push and stay on top of them and pay exorbitant fees or they say they have 30 days to release them. We were caught up on all bills from them and they still set up road blocks to not give me access to my information. Unacceptable and borderline unethical.
I gladly paid the fees to get as far as possible from this practice as quickly as possible.
This type of experience is not one that will help you get pregnant. Adding more stress will only make your timeline longer. Also, look up their SART data. www.sartonline.com. It’s great compared to other practices in Chicago.
I absolutely do not recommend FCI. If you want TLC, knowledgeable and compassionate nurses go to Advanced Fertility Centers of Chicago and see Dr Irani. He was a godsend. FCI was a terrible experience for us and I thank god we stopped working with them and found AFCC.

Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic).
IVF and infertility is an extremely expensive, stressful and emotionally draining process.
Their online portal is a way for them to avoid you. Email is not the correct means of communication in this particular industry. Sometimes you need a live person.
This clinic makes you feel more vulnerable and makes you feel like you are just dollar signs to them. I lost all trust in them and trust is essential in this industry.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Christopher Sipe at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic).
He gave us a completely wrong estimate. Billing sent me an estimate that was triple what he quoted for IUI and IVF.

Very nice clinic [Fertility Centers of Illinois]. From the people on the front desk to the nurses and the doctor we were very satisfied. The equipments that I used very professional. The people on the lab always there to help you. I strongly recommend the clinic to everyone...We could call her [nurse], email her and on both options she will always communicate with us.

Describe Christopher Sipe's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic).
We have single embryo transfer and he recommended and I am happy for that.
Dr. Sipe had no bedside manner whatsoever...spent very little time with us other than rattling off a bunch of questions on a survey for us to answer...didn't leave feeling confident that we'd have a good experience or be given tailored treatment options...felt like a really big waste of time that we were then charged a lot of money for
[Fertility Centers of Illinois] nursing staff was pretty subpar...gave incorrect or conflicting information multiple times...tech who did the ultrasound and the phlebotomist were both great...worst part of the whole experience was billing. We were charged more than we should've been, and it took hours and multiple conversations to finally speak with someone who could solve the problem
How was your experience with Christopher Sipe at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Dr. Sipe was very blunt, which is fine, but he almost seemed to take pleasure in the whole thing which was strange and off-putting. I didn't leave feeling confident that we'd have a good experience or be given tailored treatment options.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Christopher Sipe at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Dr. Sipe had no bedside manner whatsoever. He spent very little time with us other than rattling off a bunch of questions on a survey for us to answer. We had tried to get diagnostic testing prior to our meeting so that the consultation was actually helpful, but we weren't allowed. It felt like a really big waste of time that we were then charged a lot of money for.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic).
The nursing staff was pretty subpar relative to others I've experienced. They gave incorrect or conflicting information multiple times and we're particularly friendly. The tech who did the ultrasound and the phlebotomist were both great.
Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic).
I would stay as far away from this clinic as you can. The medical staff isn't good enough to deal with the headaches and wait times you'll experience. The worst part of the whole experience was billing. We were charged more than we should've been, and it took hours and multiple conversations to finally speak with someone who could solve the problem. We were also billed for testing that was never ordered or performed. They argued when I asked them to remove those charges, despite clear evidence that I'd never had appointments for those treatments or results from the supposed testing. They also lost some of our test results, which caused hours of phone calls to labs only to end up right back at FCI since they actually did have the results. I didn't want to deal with the headache during an already stressful treatment time. I am now working with a practice that is much more competent, friendly and organized.

He [Dr. Sipe] has even gone as far as calling me personally to talk about a retrieval that could have been harmful to my body and he always let me know the risks along the way...All of my transfers have resulted in pregnancy but have resulted in miscarriage so far...We talked with our doctor and because of my younger age we decided on transferring one embryo over two embryos and j was perfectly happy with that.
Lynn the front desk person [at Fertility Centers of Illinois] is so welcoming and helps with any questions and so informative. I love Stacy the ultrasound tech at the clinic. She is thorough and will explain and point things out as we go through ultrasounds. Robin the blood lady is awesome. I feel like when I walk in there it's like seeing my girlfriend. We talk about everything and I'm always excited to go and see her and talk to her for a few minutes while she draws my blood for the millionth time!

Describe the protocols Christopher Sipe used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of Illinois (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
My IUIs we use first clomid which we discovered thinned my lining so we quickly got rid of it. My second IUI we used Follistim but because I have PCOS my follicles overrespond. We got to use it for that IUI that resulted in a miscarriage because my egg was not of good quality. We then tried another IUI but I overstimmed so we move onto IVF. We did a retrieval using menopur, lupron, lupron trigger and very small amount of HCG so we could retrieve. All of my transfers have resulted in pregnancy but have resulted in miscarriage so far.

He was going to do my transfer of a fresh embryo but he couldn't find the exact place to out it so he did a freeze of that so we didnt waste a perfect embryo since he has never done any other procedures on me he wanted to do a hysterectomy to see exactly what was reason behind bot being able to get cathator where he wanted ended up removing a pylop and we are waiting for transfer next month. He is very thoughtful and patient.
Everyone at front desk [at Fertility Centers of Illinois] is super nice helpful friendly and always gets you in. The wait times are as expected not to long.
