Dr Tanrikut put me on testosterone pills for one month and had me take another blood test to see if my testosterone levels went up and they did. She had me take those same pills for another three months and during those three months, I went in for a Semen Analysis twice in Rockville and once in Annapolis. After those analysis were inconclusive, I had a surgery done called a micro testie.
We had a surgery scheduled and out of the blue it was rescheduled and they [Shady Grove Fertility- Towson] didn't tell us. We called the nurse to find out results from another test and that's when we found out the surgery was rescheduled. At the time of that call, the nurse didn't have the results but said she would have the results by 2pm so we could see if we needed to have the surgery or not. The deadline that day was 4pm to pay for the surgery. 2pm rolled around and we waited and waited, but we didn't have a call. So we called the clinic and no one was able to help us. They said we could transfer you to the nurse and they did that, but the nurse didn't pick up. At 3:50 we decided to go ahead and pay for the surgery and around 5pm we got a call from the nurse with our results. We were very upset and stressed with our experience and didn't even want to talk with the nurse after that.
How was your experience with Cigdem (Cori) Tanrikut at Shady Grove Fertility BMA?
Cigdem Tanrikut broke down the different treatments and what the possible effects could be for each route I took. She was very nice and polite and not pushy at all of my appointments. I would recommend her to my friends if they were going through the same issue I have.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Shady Grove Fertility BMA. (Assigned nurse: Pattiann)
The nurse was not good at communicating with us on the results of our tests. There was one instance when my surgery was rescheduled for the next Thursday and we did a Semen Analysis on the Friday before and didn't find out till the last minute it didn't have any results. We had t pay for the surgery on that Friday and no one would give us any answers so we just figured there were no results and paid for the surgery out of our pocket.
Describe your experience with Shady Grove Fertility BMA.
The clinic is very clean and well kept. The sectaries are very nice and will call you to remind you about an upcoming appointment. The staff and doctors are friendly to everyone they first meet. Some doctors are pushy and want to tell you what needs to be done without discussing all of your options for. I would talk to every doctor and see how you feel with each one before selecting this clinic to be your clinic. My wife and I read the reviews for other clinics in our area and then we stumbled upon this clinic and after reading the reviews we decided to try this clinic out. After going to this clinic for awhile, my wife and I wish that we chose a different clinic. The reason we didn't leave is because my wife and I felt that we had invested a lot of our time into this clinic and didn't want to have to start over from scratch. I would definitely recommend to everyone to do your research before choosing the right clinic for you and your partner.

Dr. Tanrikut is highly trained, great at communicating, and personable. When we left our appointments we understood the next steps, both the risks and possible outcomes. There were never any surprises. Further, when we thought of questions between appointments, she was always quick to respond to an e-mail through patient gateway. My diagnosis was unobstructed azoospermia (zero sperm count). My only chance at having children was to undergo MicroTESE surgery performed by Dr. Tanrikut. Our overall experience at the MGH Fertility Center was exceptional. The doctors are professional, caring, and highly skilled. The support team (nurses, embryologists, fellows, MAs, etc...) are excellent as well. The hardest part for us to trust them on was the IVF doctor rotation. How was your experience with Cigdem (Cori) Tanrikut at Massachusetts General Hospital?
Tanrikut. My anxiety was high on the day of my surgery, but I distinctly remember Dr. Tanrikut in the operating room before they administered the anesthesia; her demeanor, professionalism, and compassion toward me gave me the reassurance that I was in the best hands possible. When I woke up, Dr. Tanrikut was there to tell me the good news that she had found enough sperm for 4 cycles of IVF/ICSI. Though the fog of the anesthesia was still heavy, I distinctly remember tears of joy; a moment I will never forget. Dr. Tanrikut then left me and delivered the news personally to my wife as well. While the success of the surgery was ultimately a matter of whether or not my body was producing sperm or not, Dr. Tanrikut’s expertise in diagnosing the problem, having the technical skills to perform the surgery, and ultimately finding the best possible outcome cannot be understated. Beyond her technical skills, her demeanor and compassionate approach to our care was just as important. She demonstrated a true understanding of the emotional struggles we faced, both for myself and more importantly my wife. A phone call after the surgery, and a personal response to the thank you note we sent after the birth of our child are just two more examples of the long term commitment Dr. Tanrikut showed us. I cannot think of any weaknesses displayed by Dr. Tanrikut during our time under her care. She is truly an exceptional doctor.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Cigdem (Cori) Tanrikut at Massachusetts General Hospital?
I'd say to trust her.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Cigdem (Cori) Tanrikut at Massachusetts General Hospital?
Dr. Tanrikut brought the right level of frankness balanced with compassion. She never rushed an appointment and always made certain we had a full understanding of what we had discussed.

MicroTESE surgery. This was the recommendation after four sperm analyses showed zero sperm.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Massachusetts General Hospital.

At MGH, your primary doctor develops your treatment plan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will perform/monitor your IVF cycle. The doctors at the center rotate as the “IVF doctor” (each week I believe). We were a little uncomfortable with this at first, however it worked out perfectly fine. We needed multiple IVF cycles before we had our baby, so we ended up meeting quite a few of the doctors in the center. Each of them demonstrated the highest level of commitment, care, and professionalism in their interactions with us.

I do not recall the exact costs. But I remember that they were in line with other providers.
