Dr. Griffin’s best quality is how thorough he is. He covers all of his basis when going over treatment with his patients. He covers all possible scenarios and is extremely honest with any positives or setbacks that may occur. I also appreciated this. During our most recent cycle, Dr. Griffin told us of possible risks that may occur. He ensured us that if they occurred, we would not live forward with the transfer...He’s will overload you with the best information—good and bad—for you to make the best decisions for your family. He always delivers it in the best way.

He covers all possible scenarios and is extremely honest with any positives or setbacks that may occur. I also appreciated this. During our most recent cycle, Dr. Griffin told us of possible risks that may occur. He ensured us that if they occurred, we would not live forward with the transfer. He could have moved forward and taken my money anyway, but he was honest and told us we would not do it if the viability wasn’t there. He’s always makes you feel like you’re worthy of being parents and that you deserve it, despite your diagnosis. We have referred several friends to him and they all agree—he thoroughness and empathy make him an excellent care provider.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Dr. Griffin always called my partner and I by name and showed a genuine interest in growing our family. I sat in his office in tears as he explained that we had unexplained infertility and told him that I just wanted a family. He told us he would help us get there, and he has. Even after one failed transfer, he was always supportive, honest, and upfront.

For total egg retrieval, genetic testing of embryos, and all things associated with a frozen embryo transfer—$16,000 FET—$5,000
Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Dr. Griffin very much only wanted us to consider eSET because we had never gotten pregnant on our own before. He explained the risks of a multiple pregnancy, which helped us understand the logic behind it.

when we first met him almost 3 years ago [Dr. Dan Griffin] was very confident we would have a child quickly...6 IUI’s, 2 IVF and 1 RIVF later we are still searching to find something...called my wife to let her know the news instead of finding out online...Said he was going to present our case to the board to see if there is something he is doing wrong...even when we feel like there is no hope at all and that maybe we should see someone else we go see [doctor] and he makes us feel better...never been pushy to keep going but we so badly want a child we keep going.
The nursing staff [at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital] is great and make You feel like it all matters to them...all extremely nice and knowledgeable...For IUI’s he [Dr. Dan Griffin] will not do them. It will always be a nurse...not having him and different nurses every time it’s hard to feel a connection...The cost for IVF was 16,000 we did two mini IVF cycles those where around $9,000? I think. IUI ‘s where around $1200 6 of those so your looking at over $7000 we are about $40,000 in debt.
How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Dr Griffin when we first met him almost 3 years ago was very confident we would have a child quickly. My wife being 25 at the time thought maybe a couple of IUI’s and we would be done. 6 IUI’s, 2 IVF and 1 RIVF later we are still searching to find something. My wife has went through blood test, tube testing etc. even when we feel like there is no hope at all and that maybe we should see someone else we go see Dr Griffin and he makes us feel better. Even during these extremely tough times. He has never been pushy to keep going but we so badly want a child we keep going. Even with no baby years after. I would still recommend him. Because I think he will give us a miracle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
For IUI’s he will not do them. It will always be a nurse. When that’s the first time it’s scary and nerve racking so not having him and different nurses every time it’s hard to feel a connection. Like you would with IVF/RIVF
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
When my wife did her second IVF cycle we had 16 eggs retrieved 12 to day 3 and none to day 5. He called my wife to let her know the news instead of finding out online through our medical page. When my wife used my eggs for RIVF and it didn’t work for our third IVF cycle my first cycle. Dr griffin called my wife that day and asked to see us the next day. Said he was going to present our case to the board to see if there is something he is doing wrong. He has always made us feel like he takes this lose just as much as we do.
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
My wife had 6 failed IUI’s 2 failed IVF cycles. Dr Griffin recommend using my eggs. Told us to think about it and let him know. We decided to use my eggs. I was on clomid for 5 days and only had 3 eggs. Only one was mature enough to make an embryo. Waited a couple more days for the eggs to mature. Took a trigger shot went in a day later and we did an ultra sound to make sure I hadn’t ovulated. I hadn’t so we did a retrieval that day. He came in told me what to expect etc. everything went great he came back in after told me how many eggs retrieved and to check my portal to see if it worked. Saw that 2 of my 5 eggs fertilized and matured. My wife went in 3 days later for a fresh transfer I had a 5A and a 3A egg development put them both in my wife. Neither worked. Here we are.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The nursing staff is great and make You feel like it all matters to them.
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Strength is they are all extremely nice and knowledgeable and make You feel like you are the only patient they have ever seen. Negatives is during ultra sounds they don’t tell you what they see how many eggs they see etc.

Since I only had two he didn’t want to freeze any. So we put both back in my wife for a Fresh transfer.

[Dr. Dan Griffin] definitely has a calming and comforting presence about him. I can think of at least 2 times I have been upset and worked up and after hearing his input I was instantly calmer and hopeful again...he took his time and made sure all of our questions were answered and we had a better understanding on the situation...He seems to really have an understanding and a lot of knowledge about fertility...

How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
My husband and I had been trying to conceive for a year and a half when we finally made the switch from my regular OB to a RE. As everyone going through this process knows, it can be stressful, frustrating and even debilitating at times. He definitely has a calming and comforting presence about him. I can think of at least 2 times I have been upset and worked up and after hearing his input I was instantly calmer and hopeful again. He seems to really have an understanding and a lot of knowledge about fertility. We put our hopes and dreams in his hands and he has exceeded our expectations. Although we haven't had our success story yet I am confident Dr. Griffin will pull us through this journey with a positive outcome.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Try to stay calm and patient. It's a process.

Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
I was prescribed Clomid for cycle days 3-7. I was doing a monitored IUI treatment meaning they do bloodwork and ultrasounds to track the follicle as it grows. After my follicle had matured I was instructed to do a trigger shot and come 36 hours after for my IUI procedure.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The nursing staff is excellent!
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The clinic is honestly great. It's very private and laid back. They even have a coffee bar in the waiting room which my husband loved. The only weakness I can think of is how busy they seem to be. Also they could use some upgraded ultrasound screens for the patient to be able to see.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Insurance did cover our initial meeting which would have been about $275. Insurance however did not cover any treatments. For our monitored IUI treatment it was $1400 not including medications.

Dr Griffin is very kind and thorough. He never made me feel as though anything bad that happened was my fault...Make sure to make a list of questions, be patient while waiting on dr Griffin. He likes to take time with his patients...I hade PCOS but excellent egg supply so dr Griffin thought for sure I would do well in treatment and I did.
[At the Boston IVF clinic] Everything is clean, easy to navigate, and straight to the point. I like also that they do their own blood testing etc there in the office. The office is also inside of a women’s hospital which makes it very convenient...The staff was great and very caring...Everyone at the office is warm and friendly...staff members had been through infertility treatments or dealt with miscarriages so they all truly understood what you were going through

Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
I hade PCOS but excellent egg supply so dr Griffin thought for sure I would do well in treatment and I did. My hubby had male factor issues that made our situation more complex. Generally my treatment plan included injections before egg retrieval’s, then appts for bloodwork and ultrasounds every other day or so leading up to the day of retrieval. Both retrieval’s I did well and healed quickly. Also both retrieval’s I followed up with a fresh transfer with a 5 day embryo. The first attempt failed. Second attempt I got pregnant but baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. I had 2 embryos frozen left so went in for my 3rd transfer of both which ended in a chemical pregnancy. The only explanation dr Griffin could come up with was that there had to be a genetic or chromosomal issue.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The staff was great and very caring. My favorite nurse was Danielle. I felt like I connected with her the most. Also Jennifer at the front desk was awesome.

Dr Griffin was very personable...He’s a great doctor and explores all options. He also takes the patients requests into consideration. He continuously learns about new theories and research to help his patients. He has never told me no, or coerced me into a procedure.
The nurses [at Boston IVF at the Women's Hospital] are all really nice. I only would want to know more when having an ultrasound done. There is not much communication during ultrasounds. The nurses don’t call with results until the end of their work day around 3 pm, so the wait really is horrible

He’s a great doctor and explores all options. He also takes the patients requests into consideration. He continuously learns about new theories and research to help his patients. He has never told me no, or coerced me into a procedure. He always explains all options and gives his best opinion, along with consulting other doctors for their opinions.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
To ask a lot of questions. Dr. griffin is very professional and uses medically correct terms. I often had to ask more questions regarding these terms and what all they entailed.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Each time, Dr Griffin was very personable and called to explain his thoughts on why the cycle had failed.
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
I had a different protocol for almost every cycle. If something did not work, he was always willing to change the protocol. Upped my dosage of Clomid each time for IUI’s, then switched to Femara, then moved onto mini IVF, injectables with traditional IVF, and lastly mini RIVF with my wife using Clomid.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
I would like to know more about what the nurses are seeing during ultrasounds. Typically they are silent, but I would like some insight in the moment rather than a general number later. Our patient portal typically says less than 5, more than 5 etc.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Monitoring was great, they did your bloodwork one right after another. Ultrasounds were the same, the nurse starts cleaning while you get dressed so they’re immediately ready for the next patient. Rarely had to wait more than 5-10 mins
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
In total around 30,000
Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
We have only experienced 1 cycle where we had more than one embryo to transfer. So I do not have much experience on this.

Dr Griffin is very kind and compassionate. When something doesn’t go as planned he explains what may have happened and shows that he cares. Willing to answer and explain anything you bring up or that you do not understand...we will definitely be doing another round of IVF in the future with Dr Griffin...[ESET Approach] He explained the risks and left the decision up to us, there was no strong one way or the other.
All of the nurses [at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital] were kind and made you feel like more than just another patient, they would ask questions and get to know you a little bit. Even the nurses that came up to help on the weekend tests...Everyone at this office was kind, caring, and compassionate even the front office and billing teams...They also have a discount program if you do not have fertility coverage
How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Dr Griffin is very kind and compassionate. When something doesn’t go as planned he explains what may have happened and shows that he cares. Willing to answer and explain anything you bring up or that you do not understand. Infertility is such an emotional roller coaster and we never felt rushed out or judged for having emotions through each step. We would recommend him 100%. We do not yet have our miracle but we will definitely be doing another round of IVF in the future with Dr Griffin! There really is nothing negative to say.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Do not be embarrassed to ask something. There are plenty of silly questions or ideas we asked about that we found online and he never made us feel as they were invalid. Also don’t be embarrassed that you may need help to conceive you are not alone and it is extremely common. So thankful these advancements in medicine are available.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
I felt like I was never rushed and all questions were answered thoroughly. Very kind demeanor through every step.
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
We did a freeze all cycle on drums for 7 days, then did a trigger shot. First frozen transfer we just used estrogen and progesterone supplementation and the embryo failed to implant. For second transfer we were given the option to do an endometrial receptivity array or try a different protocol. We decided on the second and still did progesterone and estrogen supplementation but also added in clomid to ovulate before transfer, again the embryo failed to implant. There were several reasons this may have happened but we have plans for how to approach the next cycle.

We absolutely loved that after your consultation you meet with someone from billing to let you know what insurance would or wouldn’t cover. Unfortunately insurance did not cover our treatment but they gave us a price estimation breakdown of each step so we knew what to expect and even provided information on some medication discount coupons. They also do not rush you into anything, you decide when you are ready to start treatment and then they put the plans in motion.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
All together with medications it came to about 32,000. This was for 1 egg retrieval, all labs and ultrasounds, 2 transfers, all consultations, additional testing, hysterocopy, saline sonohysterogram, semen analysis, PGS testing. They also have a discount program if you do not have fertility coverage and need more than one egg retrieval as we do.
Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
He explained the risks and left the decision up to us, there was no strong one way or the other.

Dr Griffin is one of the most caring and compassionate doctors I have ever met...After my egg retrieval, Dr Griffin personally called me to discuss the results and the details of my transfer...is very particular about lab values and making sure that everything is perfect before proceeding with a procedure or treatment...He left the decision up to us as to how many embryos we decided to transfer...
The nursing staff at Boston IVF are fantastic! They are organized and can answer any question regarding your treatment plan no matter who it is that you talk to. They keep record of all of your medications and dosages and can answer any question you have about it. They treat you like a friend and make you feel like one as well. They will laugh with you and cry with you...Ivf cycle including monitoring $15,000 Frozen embryo transfer(including monitoring) $3500 Embryo storage $500/year

Dr Griffin goes over the plan of care thoroughly with my husband and I each visit and takes time to answer our questions. The clinic [Boston IVF at The Women's Hosp] has gotten very busy over the past few years and you can tell they are squeezing in as many patients as they possibly can each day. My body would not respond to high doses of injectable fertility meds, and dr griffin consulted the BIVF team to determine that I needed to be on a steroid in conjunction with the injectable and oral meds. This is how we have accomplished 2 retrieval’s so far.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
I don’t feel the care is as personal as it used to be, I suppose due to turnover of staff. However, when you have been a patient for 4+ years going through infertility struggles, it would be nice if more of the staff were familiar with your history or even act like they know you in some way and have compassion for you. I feel that I am always explaining my history over and over, and if I didn’t speak up for myself or have a nursing background, I would be completely lost.
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Although the office is very busy, I get through on the phone easily and don’t have to wait long to get a call back from a nurse. The waiting time for a follow up or consult with Dr Griffin is getting pretty far out which can be frustrating.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Insurance does not cover anything. Have have spent almost 50,000 in the past 12 months.
Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
I am not doing this for multiples because there are so many risks, and I am glad that Dr Griffin does not encourage transferring multiple embryos at a time.

Dr Griffin is very compassionate about his job and his patients. He will listen to your questions and answer them thoroughly. He will take that extra time for your questions and concerns. He explains procedures and your plan in a way that it is understandable and not left asking questions...My first cycle I used clomid for mini ivf. I did not respond well and I ovulated early before retrieval and they found out during retrieval. I was unfortunately unsuccessful that cycle but afterwards went and got a new game plan. This cycle I am doing injectables.
Mini ivf [at Boston IVF] was 5600 plus cost of meds. Regular ivf was 8800, icsi is 1100, embryo freezing is 1100. Semen analysis was 80 and saline ultrasound was 250...The clinic is very welcoming. The staff is very friendly and they try to get to know you. The experience is very personable. Sometimes they can lack communication as far as results of labs or ultrasound but if you call they will get you an update promptly. Make sure you have questions ready for consult.

Dr. Griffin definitely made me feel like a patient and not just a number. He ended up doing my final ultrasound to confirm a missed miscarriage and I really appreciated that he was the one was the one who did it. He was very compassionate through the ultrasound while answering as many questions as we had. ... We did 3 IUIs with clomid and monitoring at home with ovulation kits. Our third treatment resulted in a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage. We will be going back soon to talk about next steps.
I think overall the clinic [Boston IVF at the Women's Hospital] is great but the nursing staff is really what sets it apart. ... One of the nurses named Lynn did two of our IUIs and she was so positive and upbeat the entire time. That really made a different for us. ... I don’t think the office staff are as compassionate as the nurses. I think they would benefit more from understand the whole process and what the patient goes through. ...

I was expecting to see Dr. Griffin just for consultations about treatment plans and what we were doing next but when he was the one who completed my ultrasound to confirm a missed miscarriage, I really felt like he was going the extra mile to make sure we knew exactly what was going on and to confirm the miscarriage.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
To not hesitate to go to his office. Even though our pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, the treatments at the office still worked.

...we went in for ultrasounds I felt that he [Dr. Griffin] wasn’t as up front as he could’ve been. At our first ultrasound there was no mention of a possible miscarriage when he had suspected it. I would’ve like to have been warned that it was a high possibility rather than being totally blindsided by it. After talking to him about it in a later appointment he explained everything and was very kind about it all.
We have had mostly excellent experiences with the nurses in the office [Boston IVF]. They are very sweet and thorough when it comes to reporting cycles and getting schedules figured out. How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
The experience at Dr. Griffin’s office has been pretty good. I felt that there was a good plan put in place in order for us to conceive. Once that happened and we went in for ultrasounds I felt that he wasn’t as up front as he could’ve been. At our first ultrasound there was no mention of a possible miscarriage when he had suspected it. I would’ve like to have been warned that it was a high possibility rather than being totally blindsided by it. After talking to him about it in a later appointment he explained everything and was very kind about it all. Overall I think he is great at his job and truly cares for his patients.

The majority of the nurses in the facility are so nice and seem to really care about your questions. Doctor Griffin is very thorough and makes sure to answer all of our questions.
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
My issue was PCOS due to not having regular periods. Therefore I was not ovulating on my own. He did bloodwork and then started me on 5mg of Femara and after reviewing bloodwork the medication was making me ovulate. He also did thyroid bloodwork and put me on letrozole starting at 25mcg with bloodwork a few months later, saw my number wasn’t low enough so he upped the dose again to 50mcg, did bloodwork again and ended up changing it to 100mcg and that got my number down to around 1.5. After a few months of being on Femara and we still weren’t pregnant he suggested doing fertility medication with unmonitored IUI. I took ovulation tests at home and would call their office with a positive test. We got pregnant on the first round of IUI but it unfortunately ended in miscarriage 5 weeks later. We did another unmonitored IUI with Femara but did not get pregnant. Going forward we will do one more unmonitored IUI with a higher dose of Femara and if that doesn’t work then we will go to monitored IUIs with trigger shots.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
We have had mostly excellent experiences with the nurses in the office. They are very sweet and thorough when it comes to reporting cycles and getting schedules figured out. They answer any questions and call back if they have to talk to the doctor first. The only negative experience I had was during my miscarriage. Everything happened after hours and I was not prescribed the pain medication I needed to get through the medication they did prescribe me to pass the baby. I ended up talking to Dr Griffin in the middle of the night because I didn’t know if I should’ve been having so much pain for so long and he told me I would have to go to the ER because he could not call in the pain medication over the phone. After that experience I felt the nurse that didn’t call it in was always very short with me and wouldn’t let me get a word in edgewise and I got very frustrated with her. Overall after the miscarriage there were nurses that were so sweet and let me cry on the phone anytime I had a question but there were a few that I felt like did not communicate very well.
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Overall the office is great. The staff is nice, the office is clean and organized. They are mostly thorough and will answer any questions you have. I think they are very sensitive to the fact that they are a fertility clinic and know that their patients are going through a lot and they definitely take that into consideration.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Our Femara is $10 each month. Thyroid medication (levothyroxine) is $10 a month and the IUI is $300 and has to be paid upfront along with any outstanding bill you have.
What specific things went wrong at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
I explained in a previous answer, but after our miscarriage we did not get all of the medication we needed. I ended up taking a medication to help me pass the baby because I hadn’t shown signs of miscarriage yet and there should’ve been pain medication called in with that medication and it wasn’t. I ended up calling Dr Griffin after hours because I was in so much pain for so long and I didn’t know what to do. He told me I would have to go into the ER because he couldn’t call in that prescription over the phone.

He [Dr. Dan Griffin] was very thorough, knowledgeable, open to questions. Made you feel like the only patient in the clinic, never rushed. He discussed all risks and options. He was up to date on all treatments and research... Iui cycles with clomid - unmonitored - we chose this for mfi as it was inexpensive and last ditch effort prior to ivf (300$/cycle) nurses performed procedure. He did not think adding injections would greatly increase our chances and would be 3000/cycle for meds and monitoring For ivf cycle we were dx with mfi only. All female tests were normal- started with ocp and antagonist protocol. Hyperstimmed and doses were decreased at each visit. On follistim, menopur, centrotide. at last monitoring appt ultrasound showed greater than 40 follicles and high estrogen. Triggered with lupron to avoid ohss. At retrieval unfortunately had started ovulating (free fluid in pelvis and significantly less eggs visualized) still ended with 15 eggs, 10 mature, 8 fertilized with icsi. 5 made it to day 5/6, 4 good quality and the other discarded. Implanted 5aa embryo fresh transfer resulting in live Singleton

Dr. Griffin is a very hands on doctor. Even when out of town, he wanted to be the one contacted about my treatment plan. He showed sadness over the loss of our twins. He also showed great concern over the last transfer we had and making sure my health was closely monitored. He even accomodated my wish for an extra ultrasound before leaving his care to go to a high risk doctor. He was always very informative about things, even if it was unfortunate news. He was always friendly, and you could tell he genuinely cared about his patients.
I believe we paid around $10,000 for the egg retrieval, fertilization and transfer [at Boston IVF-Newburgh]. They did offer a discount plan if you wanted to do 3 consecutive egg retrievals. Medicine was expensive which brought our total more around $15,000 for everything. The good thing is they refer you to a pharmacy up north that offers a discount. The discount was pretty substantial from other quotes we got.
How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
I don't think you'll find a better doctor to put in charge of your fertility journey! Please, if you're debating his clinic or another choose him. You won't regret it!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Dr. Griffin was always very personable with my husband and I. He didn't always have good news to give us, but he made sure he was always up front and honest with us. He also showed sorrow for our losses. (Lost twins at 22 weeks due to severe preeclampsia). He made sure to always keep us fully informed. Truly a gifted doctor!
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
I didn't have regular cycles, so Dr. Griffin prescribed medicine to kick start one. After he thought my body was ready it was time for fertility injections to make my eggs mature. (For our first cycle we were trying timed intercourse). He was very cautious, and increased my dosage of fertility meds very slowly to prevent overstimulation. Timed intercourse didn't work, so 23 jumped to IVF next. Same procedure of fertility meds to stimulate my eggs to mature. Followed by egg retrieval. He told me I was one of his highest egg count retrievals. I ended up with kissing ovaries, which meant a fresh transfer was impossible. I cried, and he highed me and reassured me all would be well and we could proceed with a frozen transfer once things returned to normal. He monitored me to make sure the swelling went down and that all was okay once my ovaries were back to normal. Before the next transfer was scheduled, he had me come in for a trial transfer to make sure there would be no complications for the actual transfer. This particular transfer resulted in both embryos taking! We were blessed with 2 sweet boys that we lost at 22 weeks due to severe preeclampsia. Dr. Griffin was very sympathetic to our loss. He was okay with doing another single embryo transfer once we were cleared by our high risk doctor. Our next transfer didn't take. Again, he showed sympathy. Next transfer took, but resulted in a chemical pregnancy. Again, he showed sympathy for us. Our last embryo had appeared to split before freezing. Dr. Griffin warned it could be twins, but said he was willing to do the transfer. This transfer was successful! I'll never forget when Dr. Griffin breathed a sigh of relief at my first ultrasound that showed a single baby. He also shared in our joy. I saw him for one or two more ultrasounds after that, one of which was my request because I was paranoid after losing the twins. He very graciously said it was no problem and was happy to oblige. Dr. Griffin was the doctor we needed for our journey. I honestly can't imagine having had a better doctor through the ups and downs. Should we ever decide to try again, he will be who we see!
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
All of the nursing staff treated us like family! They shared in the joy and the heartache of our journey! They are all amazing, and so friendly! Another huge blessing on our journey. We really couldn't have asked for better nurses!
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Honestly, I have nothing negative to say. The clinic was very organized and full of caring and friendly staff. The staff at the front window recognize you, and it carries on through the rest of the clinic. Such a wonderful place to receive treatments!!

Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Dr. Griffin does not transfer more than 2 embryos at a time. He doesn't want to risk anyones health by transferring too many embryos and them all taking. Which we understoof and were fine with! After suffering from severe preeclampsia he only wanted to transfer one embryo at a time for us. Again, we understood and were fine with that! He really does keep the mothers health concerns a priority in addition to the babies.

When a failed cycle occurs he [Dr. Dan Griffin] always meets with you and insists on making changes to either help improve your odds or just to try something different since he doesn't like to use the same things and possibly get the same results... Weaknesses: He doesn't give you all the details when things do not go according to plan. You have to be your own advocate and have done some research before hand.
[At Boston IVF-Indiana] I had a cancelled IVF cycle due to the physician's decision on a start date for meds. I had discarded embryos that I received and e-mail about, as the only means of communication. I also received conflicting information about what embryos were kept and which were discarded...IUI: Monitored cycle cost $1300. Non-monitored cost $300. Injectable cycle was around $1750, all costs don't include medication. IVF: Base cost $8500, ICSI is $1000, Freezing embryos is $1000. They do offer plans where you can pay $20,000 for 2 cycles including FET and ICSI. Or a discount program $1000 off every Fresh IVF cycle after the first. FET: $6000 Ultrasound: about $300
How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Strengths: He is extremely knowledgeable and positive. He has had great success. When a procedure is suggested or a next course is planned he gives you all the details. He is great at communicating things and answering all questions, he has a wonderful bedside manner and always wants you to feel comfortable. He doesn't sugarcoat information, but he is not rude about things either. He looks at all aspects of a case. When a failed cycle occurs he always meets with you and insists on making changes to either help improve your odds or just to try something different since he doesn't like to use the same things and possibly get the same results. Weaknesses: He doesn't give you all the details when things do not go according to plan. You have to be your own advocate and have done some research before hand. I had a cancelled IVF cycle because I had ovulated prematurely. In the appointment prior to starting the cycle I specifically asked about birth control so that we could be on a good schedule for both of us. He didn't listen, said I didn't need it since I had irregular cycles anyway, and we did a random start date. This mistake ended up costing me over $1,000 in having to replace meds I had already used, when the next cycle we did use birth control.

Be your own advocate and do your research before hand. Make sure you know the details and take notes.

The office staff knew my name, Dr. Griffin was able to recall details about me that weren't just about my case, and everyone was friendly while working with your schedule.
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
IUIs: We did 3 failed IUIs, mostly due to low sperm count on my husband's side, with Femara. My reaction varied from 1-3 follicles each time. We triggered with HCG all three times. However, once we used Ovidrel and that saved me some money, but had the same outcome. IVF: We used an antagonist protocol. I was on 225IU of Gonal-F, 75 of Menopur, and then .25 Cetrotide when the time came. I triggered with Ovidrel. Dr. Griffin said this was his middle of the road protocol since I had responded well with Femara. I ended up with 11 eggs, 9 of which were mature. All 9 were fertilized with ICSI, we transferred 2, a grade 5BB and 3AB, neither implanted. Of the rest left 5 arrested, and 2 were discarded due to low grades, 5CC. I got an e-mail about them being discarded after it had already happened and had to call the embryologist myself to figure out what happened. I was not happy about this, although I knew they could do something like this, I was originally informed it was if they had grades of D's not C's. During my last appointment he mentioned it seemed to be more of a MFI issue, however he would change my protocol the next round and use a Lupron flare protocol. Once I got a second opinion I was informed that all the embryos weren't of the best quality but this was never mentioned to me, even during my follow up appointment.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The nursing staff was amazing!! The phlebotomist, Jennifer, is amazing! She listens and does her best all the time. The Ultrasound Tech, Missy, was my favorite. I was never afraid to ask her anything. They had multiple nurses, and some training, all of which were great. Marcy at the front test is wonderful and always helpful and polite. The nurses who work in the surgical area, Jessica specifically, are amazing. I never had an issue with a nurse.
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The clinic is great. Pricey but great. I did not have success there and sought a 2nd opinion due to money being an issue, and multiple failed cycles. If I could afford to stay there, I would, I also would go back. I had some issues there that make me sour, but none of them had to do with nurses, coordinators or anything of the like. I had some issues with communication and feeling like everything possible was done when I was paying out of pocket.

Dr. Griffin would transfer 1 or 2 embryos and he let you decide which you wanted to do. He explained all the risks for multiples and would not transfer more than 2.

Dr. Griffin was very personable and always made sure I knew exactly what we were doing every step of the way. He was also very quick to answer in questions I had in detail...After my first appointment with Dr. Griffin he started testing with both my husband and I. He had my husband give a semen analysis, which came back great. He then performed an ultrasound and did blood work. He then concluded that I had pcos with an ovulated cycles.
Overall, the clinic [Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital] is great! I really do not have any complaints. I would highly recommend them to anyone who asked...My insurance did not cover anything fertility related, so Dr. Griffin and his team did everything they could to help us out...Dr. Griffin's nursing staff is excellent! All of them have great bedside manners. They are always just a phone call away and are always quick to answer any questions I may have.

He [Dr. Dan Griffin] was very hands on with the treatment processes. He did the transfers and h egg retrieval. He was also there for our first ultrasound. He showed a lot of empathy for us, and was very transparent and honest with what he felt was the best decision for us to help grow our family...approach really makes you feel like a human, and not just another patient...He wanted to cover all basis on testing. Had me undergo testing, as well as my husband. He had me have an HSG test, and extensive blood work, and my husband also underwent blood work to ensure no issues on his end. From there, he said at the point where we were, our best option was IVF, due to over a year of no pregnancy, and 2 failed IUI cycles.
They [nurses at Boston IVF] were very hands on and were available anytime you had a question or a need. They were very detailed in everything they did, so that they knew you understood what was happening...They treat you like an individual, and a real human. They make sure you are fully aware of all possible outcomes and risk, and make sure to keep in contact with you throughout the entire process. They made sure you knew what to do under any circumstance, and if you needed help in an emergency, they were always available.

He said he felt comfortable on doing either 1 or 2 embryos, and no more than that. He was very confident that transferring one embryo would result in a viable pregnancy, but said he would transfer 2 if we chose to do that, but also warned that he was confident in a multiple pregnancy if we went that route after all testing was completed.

Together we reviewed my medical history and the treatment plan I followed at Fertility and Endocrine Associates. He [Dr. Dan Griffin] developed the next steps for me to continue my treatment under his care and I felt confident in knowing that he had my best interest. I scheduled another appointment with him for further testing at his Newburgh location. I felt confident enough and so comfortable with him that I made the couple hour drive out to his practice for testing. I was excited to see his facility and for my journey to continue. He made me feel optimistic again.
I was blown away by his staff [at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital] from check in to check out. I was greeted in a friendly manner and I was taken on a personal tour of the facility. I did not ask for a tour but it was graciously offered and I gladly accepted. The facility was beautiful and so were the people. One thing that stood out to me about his nursing staff was during my HSG procedure. I did not had any idea going in that it would be painful. No clue whatsoever. The nurse asked me if I viewed anything about it on YouTube and I told her that I had not reviewed anything. She said she was glad I did not because a lot of people came in afraid. That did worry me but she offered me reassurance and a hand to hold (literally). I thought I was going to break her hand and I even told her this. She told me to squeeze her hand tighter if I needed to! After the procedure they stayed a moment with me to be sure I was okay and they checked on my well bein
How was your experience with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
I was very nervous to meet with Dr. Griffin and I am not even sure entirely why ,because I had met with a fertility clinic prior to that, Fertility and Endocrine Associates. I had an idea of what to expect already but my nerves might've been due to the fact that my previous attempts at Fertility and Endocrine Associates had failed and I was worried that this would fail too. When going through difficulties with fertility it can sometimes be hard to stay optimistic. Together we reviewed my medical history and the treatment plan I followed at Fertility and Endocrine Associates. He developed the next steps for me to continue my treatment under his care and I felt confident in knowing that he had my best interest. I scheduled another appointment with him for further testing at his Newburgh location. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
Even if you are not local to his practice the care and expertise that is offered is worth the travel. I was blown away by the facility and by Dr. Griffin and his staff. When I was with them I felt like I was the only patient in their care and that I had their undivided attention. I would recommend to a prospective patient to ask questions and to ask them again. I thought that things had been explained to me in simple terms before but when I say that Dr.Griffin drew me a picture I mean he drew me a picture. I had some confusion about certain things and Dr.Griffin seriously took out a piece of paper and pen and drew me a picture to help illustrate what was going on with me. I never had a doctor do that before and it helped me to grasp what we were discussing and it made me feel like he truly cared about me.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital?
I remember when I first heard of Boston IVF. I was visiting my OBGYN for my yearly exam and I went to the checkout counter and there I saw a brochure. They were advertising that they now had an in-house doctor to discuss infertility and treatment options with patients! I thought how fantastic is that?! Previously my OBGYN had referred me to another practice and doctor - Dr. Kit Devine with Fertility and Endocrine Associates and now I could see a doctor only minutes from my house. So, I scheduled a consultation at my OBGYN's office in New Albany, Indiana with Dr. Daniel Griffin. His practice is actually located in Newburgh, Indiana and he has such a passion for helping families dealing with infertility that he travels to New Albany once a month to meet with families who want to have a family. That alone made me feel good about seeing him because I knew he truly cared and wanted to offer his services to more than just families local to his practice.
Describe the protocols Dan Griffin used in your cycles at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital and their degree of success.
I had previously went through 3 rounds of medication (Chlomid, Letrozole, Femara) with a previous Doctor so Dr.Griffin did not want to waste my time and money going back to treatments that did not work. Before moving on to more advanced treatments such as IUI or IVF Dr.Griffin performed some bloodwork, an ultrasound and then he also performed a HSG. He wanted to rule out any blockages in my tubes or any issues with my ovaries before moving onto expensive treatments such as IUI or IVF. He informed me that if there was any obstructions that IUI or IVF would be unsuccessful. The treatment was incredibly painful but I felt comfortable and safe with the staff who was conducting the procedure. The procedure was explained to me step my step so there was no surprises and then end result was no blockages. I was thrilled! Immediately after we met to talk about the next steps in my treatment.

They also offered recommendations to ease my pain for that evening.
Describe your experience with Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
The facility is beautiful. I was blown away the moment I walked in the waiting room. It was by far a better environment than the fertility doctor I saw previously, not to say anything was wrong with where I went before. The staff gave me a tour of their facility and everything seemed well kept, clean and organized. The one thing in their facility that I love is a wall where they place footprints of all of their children! Every time a little one is successfully born with the help of their services the family comes in a puts a footprint in blue or pink paint along with their birth info (name, weight, length) along side the print. There are a lot of footprints on this wall which means a lot of successful pregnancies! It is awesome for patients to have that visual. Everyone at this facility treated me like a friend, not like a patient. I only wish that it was closer to my home. I felt so strong about their care and services that I made the long trip to be seen.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
My first cost incurred under Dr Griffin was a consultation held at my OBGYN's office. I also had some blood work and an ultrasound. Before insurance those services are roughly $500 but after insurance it was less than $100. The most costly procedure that I had under his care was an HSG test although I can't recall the cost exactly I believe it was around $500. I also do not recall if my insurance covered part of that exam since they cover some things and not others. My insurance covers testing up to the diagnosis of infertility and they cover nothing after that.
Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
I did not get to this point in my treatment with Dr. Griffin but the process was explained to me. This would have been a bit more difficult for me because Dr.Griffin's practice was roughly 2 hours from my home. Although Dr.Griffin comes to my OBGYN's office on a monthly basis for consultations, he performs all procedures outside of routine bloodwork at his practice in Newburgh.

I feel like Dr. Griffin cared genuinely about the failure/success of each cycle and how to improve our chances for future cycles...He is full of information and even if you think your question is ridiculous, never be afraid to ask anything. He will make sure that you completely understand everything before you leave his office...Dr. Griffin was very professional and easy to talk to about our questions and concerns. Fertility treatments take so much away from you but Dr. Griffin let you feel like you still had some dignity and could still Make you laugh even during the most sensitive of procedures.
When you start your journey with Boston IVF, you become part of this family. When you are told or realize that you need to seek the help of a fertility clinic, you feel defeated or like you have hit rock bottom. Dr. Griffin and his staff will give you the best possible treatment options while bringing you up from that low point in your life. There is most certainly an emotional aspect to dealing with fertility and it's really great to know that there is a doctor that understands that and whose staff will help you sort through your feelings.

I felt like the entire nursing staff was professional but also emotionally invested in our treatments. Made us feel more like a friend or family rather than patients.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
There were some mornings that I needed to be at work at 8am and I was able to be seen before normal clinic hours so I could still get to work on time. I was also able to get appointments set a little later in the morning so I could go during my lunch break.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Dan Griffin at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
We had 3 back to back IUIs without insurance and paid out of pocket prior to first ultrasound of the cycle. We were fortunate to get fertility insurance prior to IVF cycle and freeze all cycle (paid out of pocket for embryologist for genetic testing only) so prices were not bad. When we are ready for embryo transfer in the future, it will be $3400 each time (includes the transfer and all ultrasounds and bloodwork leading up to transfer).
Describe Dan Griffin's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF at The Women's Hospital.
Dr. Griffin is very adamant about not transferring more than 2. We transferred 2 embryos for our first transfer which resulted in 1 singleton. We unfortunately lost our son after birth at 25 weeks so we have agreed to transfer a single embryo in the future as twins, for us, could pose a serious risk.

Dr.Griffin was very good at explaining to me what needed to be done and how they were going to do them. Dr. Griffin never made me feel like I was being pressured jnto doing anything I was uncomfortable with. Anytime I had a question about anything Dr. Griffin was more than willing to listen and answer. I was a little worried about having a male doctor, but never once did I feel uncomfortable...DR. Griffen and his staff were very professional but also very friendly. They always remembered things that we had talked about at previous appointments
I really liked that the clinic [Boston IVF] had a place to make coffee because a lot of the appointments were early in the morning. They were always on time. I never had to wait long in the waiting room.Missy was such a great and supportive nurse. Missy was always happy to see me and was very organized. Missy has such a positive energy that made my worries and nerves just melt away. Missy took time out of her day to speak with me on a day that I didn't even have an appointment.

I don't remember specific measurements. The only thing that surprised me was having to watch a video to learn how to give myself the shots instead of being shown.

I like the fact that he would only transfer two embryos at the most. I felt like he was looking out for not only mine but the babies health as well.

He [Dr. Griffin] was very nice. Always ready to explain anything I needed. The only thing I found off putting was he diagnosed me with unexplained infertility but I went to a OBGYN and she said it looked like I had PCOS. I'm not sure how he missed that...He was very well educated and even though others would see our loss as a "chemical pregnancy" since I was only pregnant a week before it was over he still called it a miscarriage because he knew that in only a week it was already the most important thing to us.
[Boston IVF Womens Clinic] Very friendly and compassionate. The only issue we ran into is we were not informed that we needed to pay for the IUI before hand in full. We ended up doing the procedure and expected to get a bill that we could make payments on but they sent a bill for the whole thing. They did apologize for the mistake and took full credit for the issue and let us make payments since they did not communicate to us what they needed before hand so it wasn't so terrible.

We did an HSG test to see if my tubes we block and see if my uterous was slanted or not but everything checked out. He did a sperm sample on my husband which showed his morphology was off but he instructed he take a multivitamin and that would take care of it. We would try the next month after they were in his system. The next month came and he put me on Clomid. And he had me come in during my fertile window and drew blood to see when I would ovulate since I don't really get accurate results from the at home tests. When it was time we did an IUI. I ended up getting pregnant but I lost it about a week later he said we could try again but it was too expensive for me to try again.

They were very friendly. Always gentle and kind. One nurse was very comforting during my HSG test which was more painful than I had though it would be

The testing was all covered by my insurance so I do not remember that completely. However I do believe with blood work testing to see when I would ovulate plus the IUI we paid about $2500

Just the issue of us needing to pay in full for the IUI procedure beforehand. But when they realized they performed the procedure without collecting the payment first they were very kind and apologetic for not conveying that. They let us even make payments.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
We are very early in our treatment with Dr Griffin but in just one visit he did an ultrasound to check my follicle count (good numbers), drew a tsh level (started on Synthroid), did genetic testing and did labs and a second semen analysis on my husband...He called my husband and I by name for the entire consult. He explained everything and involved us both in questions and next steps...He was very personable and knowledgeable. He explained everything in detail and gave us several options as how to proceed. He treated us like we were the only patients in the office even though the waiting room was full! Great bedside manner... didn't sugar coat things but was also aware of how emotional the situation was and seemed like he truly wanted to help us
As soon as we walked in the door [at Boston IVF], the staff was so nice. The nurses explained everything to us and what to expect. They even went over insurance paperwork with us...My insurance warned me in advance that some of the fertility treatments wouldn't be covered. So far, its cost around $700 just to have the initial tests on myself and my husband...Super friendly staff that seem to truly love their job and want to help patients have children. Very knowledgeable about treatment options. The entire office treated us with respect and almost like family from the moment we walked through the door. They need a bigger waiting room:)

We have only had a Skype consultation with Dr Griffin. He was very friendly and answered every question I had before asking. Very informative and made us feel comfortable and confident. He was not rushed at all. He took his time to listen to our story and knew a lot of my medical history before the consult.... We have yet to start treatments of any kind due to the fact that he wanted us to have a few more tests done. We plan to start IVF as soon as we are able.
From the very first email [to , I was contacted immediately. The voices on the other end were so nice and compassionate.... The nursing staff along with the rest of the office staff are super friendly. I called multiple times with multiple questions and they returned all my calls in an appropriate time frame and answered every question I had in a very informative manner.

He [Dr. Griffin] is always so attentive when you are with him. When I had my miscarriage he was with me during the ultrasound, and then sat with me afterwards and explained what was going on. ... We went through three iui cycles first with lots of bloodwork, and ultrasounds before the transfer. The ivf cycle was the same way. He monitored closely to make sure that my ovaries were not over stimulated, and that I was responding well to the medication. ...
The wait time [at The Women's Hopsital] is never very long. Always eager to answer questions, and call backs are always quick. The only weakness if you call it that is on the weekends when you have to go in for bloodwork the wait can be long. ... The nurses are fabulous! They all care so much for their patients.

Dr. Griffin is very thorough and knowledgeable. He takes his time explaining all the options and we never feel rushed while we are there. He just makes us feel comfortable. I've seen other doctors, however Dr. Griffin was the only one to identify the problem and determine a plan of action for us. Which we are extremely grateful for. Having answers was a huge relief, and knowing that there are still options available for us means everything.
This clinic is outstanding. Their office is friendly, organized and well coordinated.... The nurses are great. They are very friendly, always have a smile on their face when you walk in. I always feel welcome in their office.... Our first visit we were nearly 30 minutes late as we got lost (live an hour away from the doctor's office). We were so worried that we woudn't get to see Dr. Griffin, however he made the time for us. We weren't rushed at all, he took his time, and answered all of our questions and concerns.
