Dr Vitiello is non-judgemental, smart, and direct...she was supportive along the way...challenging to get dedicated time with her, as appointments had to be made many weeks in advance...she called me right away a few times when we had testing/procedure results.
[Fertility Centers of New England] was able to deliver the results I wanted but I felt I needed to keep "pushing the ball forward"...you're your own advocate...majority of interactions are not with the doctor, but instead with a changing group of nurses...long wait each time for the ultrasound...felt somewhat alone through this whole process
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr Vitiello is non-judgemental, smart, and direct. I felt comfortable explaining what I was looking for out of the experience and she was supportive along the way. It was challenging to get dedicated time with her, as appointments had to be made many weeks in advance, but I was happy that she called me right away a few times when we had testing/procedure results. I had full trust and confidence in her ability to create the right treatment plan for me.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of New England.
My experience with the nursing staff was mixed. I was able to communicate them via messaging through the patient portal and they would reply within a few hours, which was great. However, some responses were confusing, had typos, or were clearly copy and pasted blocks of text, which made the communications seem questionable or not personal.
Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of New England.
This clinic was able to deliver the results I wanted but I felt I needed to keep "pushing the ball forward" to get things moving, and you're your own advocate. While each patient's case is overseen by a doctor, the vast majority of interactions are not with the doctor, but instead with a changing group of nurses, technicians, and phlebotomists. Most communications are done through the patient portal message system, with varying levels of detail. The clinic seems to have a high volume of patients based on the number of people who went for early morning testing, and there was a long wait each time for the ultrasound. I felt somewhat alone through this whole process, and was frustrated by an inconsistent quality of communication (I realized I did not receive the document describing my protocol the first round until they sent one the second round), but I did feel like I had a smart, capable doctor overseeing my case. Overall, it's not a very personal clinic and you feel like one in a thousand, but I achieved the results I wanted, the messaging replies were quick, and I enjoyed the calls with my doctor.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Fertility Centers of New England.
There was a long line for blood work and ultrasound monitoring appointments. The blood work wasn't that bad (5-10 min wait max), but the ultrasound sometimes took 1-2 hours to be seen. It was a first come, first served sign up list. Overall it was one of the worst parts of the whole process - wake up at the crack of dawn then spend 1-2 hours waiting for an ultrasound, multiple times a week.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
For each cycle, IVF Freeze all was $9835, and ICSI was $1400. The medications were a separate cost through my pharmacy.

Dr. Vitiello never did a single one of our procedures, and wasn’t even the one to call with the results for the frozen transfer. We haven’t heard from her in weeks and have decided to switch to another doctor within the clinic because the trust is completely gone...We saw her 3 times for consults… one I had to advocate for after a failed cycle. We had very little contact with her or information given unless explicitly asked for....
you get pushed through and they [Fertility Centers of New England] don’t pay a lot of attention to you as an individual. You have to really advocate for yourself to get the information you should be naturally given...[monitoring appointments are] 6:30-7:15 first come first serve… you have to get there earlier because people start lining up by 6:15...We had to request more information and test results several times. A little bit short and cold when you ask additional questions
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
We were initially very hopeful. Dr. Vitiello stated that she had full confidence in our success. We ended up completing 2 egg retrieval cycles. The first 8 eggs were retrieved, resulting in 2 viable embryos. One was transferred and one was frozen. The transfer failed. She then suggested we do another retrieval to get as many embryos as possible for future children. She changed our medications slightly. We ended up with 0 embryos. We then did a from embryo transfer with our last remaining embryo, which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. Dr. Vitiello never did a single one of our procedures, and wasn’t even the one to call with the results for the frozen transfer. We haven’t heard from her in weeks and have decided to switch to another doctor within the clinic because the trust is completely gone.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
See someone else. She’s very unclear with her plan, and you have to really advocate for any face time with her. And then when you talk to her she doesn’t give you any clear information unless you ask for more explanation, she just assumes you know the entire process.

I have DOR and was supposed to use microdose lupron [with Dr. Vitiello], but it was forgotten. I had no day-5 embryos...There was no apology or solution offered. Instead, I was treated very poorly...There is no contact with the doctor during your cycle. The only contact is after the retrieval. When my embryos didn't make it to day 5, a random doctor left me a voicemail to give me the news...When I told her about my previous experiences, she was not willing to listen because it wasn't "her data". I may not be a doctor, but I definitely know my experiences personally. Leading up to the cycle, I had numerous consults with her, which were all very positive. The actual cycle was incredibly disappointing.
I had very little interaction with the nursing staff [at Fertility Centers of New England]. My monitoring and labs were all done by outsourced parties who could not answer any of my questions. The doctor made a mistake on my treatment protocol, which resulted in zero day-5 embryos. There was no apology or solution offered. Instead, I was treated very poorly...The nurses and lab staff are outsourced and cannot answer any questions...The nurses/coordinators repeatedly sent my prescriptions to the wrong pharmacy and misspelled my name.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
It took me one year to be able to do IVF. Dr. Vitiello was aware of this and when I finally was able to do it, she made a mistake on my medication. I ended up with zero day-5 embryos. There was never an apology or an offer to try again on them with the appropriate medication. When I told her about my previous experiences, she was not willing to listen because it wasn't "her data". I may not be a doctor, but I definitely know my experiences personally. Leading up to the cycle, I had numerous consults with her, which were all very positive. The actual cycle was incredibly disappointing.

Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of New England.
The monitoring (u/s and labs) is outsourced and no one can answer any questions. There is no doctor communication until after the cycle. Any doctor will make decisions on your case regardless of whether they know your case. After I found out that the clinic messed up on my treatment protocol, I told the doctor who was on-call (they wouldn't let me talk to my doctor). The doctor then told me that I "should have little hope anyway." There was no apology for messing up! My doctor had never said that I should have little hope and was always very positive. It was devastating to hear. I would never go back to this clinic.

She [Dr. Danielle Vitiello] would always call with my results and always be so positive. She was really nice and I felt very comfortable with her. She did an amazing job with balancing out my medications so our results were perfect...She wouldn't allow me to transfer more than one...It's one doctor in the office and they book one appointment at a time. My doctor always remembered me and was very easy to talk to.
This clinic [Fertility Centers of New England] has awesome doctors. Very organized portal messages with written instructions on next steps with medications and dosages. Some of the staff you talk to on the phone are very nice. Others not so much...All ultrasounds and blood work appointments are only available Monday through Saturday 6:30am-7:15 am...The doctor's office was not over crowded. It's one doctor in the office and they book one appointment at a time.

This was where your treated as a number. They only communicate through email and don't usually talk over the phone. Which I personally don't like because it's nice being able to reach and talk to a nurse when you need it. Even if it's for a silly question

She wouldn't allow me to transfer more than one. But I am ok with that because it's the greatest chance to a healthy live birth

Danielle [Vitiello] personally responds to all emails, and is incredibly good with knowing all of your information (test results, etc) before she answers, which is reassuring. I worry about doctors having so many patients that they just go surface level with each, and with Danielle and her staff that has never been an issue. When she had to call to give us bad news about a test result, she left an incredibly empathetic message.
Fertility Centers of New England runs like a well-oiled machine, which is incredibly reassuring. They are open for blood work and ultrasounds for a few hours before work, and they gave me tips for what time to arrive to make sure I am in and out in time. The staff are always friendly and confident, and always answer questions over their email system same day.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Danielle is optimistic but frank. She talks quickly and seems incredibly confident in how she thinks your treatment will go. While that was very reassuring at the time, it also set us up to expect thing to go well which led to extra disappointment when they didn't. She is happily willing to go over details multiple times if you need things explained again, and although she has a brusque manner we didn't in any way feel rushed.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Write down your questions in advance, so that you don't forget to ask them as things move quickly in an appointment. In our first appointment I was going to take notes, but she said I didn't need to as she'd be writing everything up. I wish I had taken notes anyway, as she talks quickly and I feel like I missed things.

After a semen analysis detected a 0 sperm count, my husband saw a urologist recommended by Danielle who diagnosed him with azoospermia, so we will be using donor sperm. We are currently researching sperm banks. Once we choose a donor, Danielle recommended two rounds of IUI, despite the low success rate, just to try before we move on to IVF if needed, for insurance and age purposes as I am almost 40.

They see a lot of patients, but in a way it is reassuring that this is not their first rodeo. I really appreciate their email system, as opposed to leaving a message for a doctor, waiting for them to call you back, and hoping it's at a time when you are free. They always answer their emails same day.

Dr V [Vitiello] informed my husband and I that we had "unexplained" infertility. She didn't think I had PCOS (previously diagnosed in 2011 by another doctor) and reported that my husband's sperm analysis was fine. ... found another clinic who used Dr V's test results we were informed we actually have male factor infertility and I was taken off metformin and birth control (which Dr V's office did not have any record of having put me on).
I was informed that I needed to be under a BMI of 38 in order for the anesthesiologist to be able to do his job. ... They [Fertility Centers of New England] had no record of birth control and wrote my refill of metformin for twice the amount of the original script. ... Their record keeping leaves something to be desired. There was no record of putting me on birth control and when I called for a refill of metformin the script was written for twice the amount prescribed the first time with no explanation or testing. They also deal solely with Quest Diagnostics whose billing department is atrocious and never billed me the same way twice and only correctly on the first attempt once. That is the main reason we are leaving.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr V informed my husband and I that we had "unexplained" infertility. She didn't think I had PCOS (previously diagnosed in 2011 by another doctor) and reported that my husband's sperm analysis was fine. I was informed that I needed to drop 15 pounds but not explained why. At later appointments with the nurses I was informed that I needed to be under a BMI of 38 in order for the anesthesiologist to be able to do his job. If I had been an inch taller this would not have been an issue. I was instructed to go on a Keto diet and I was unable to handle this due to previous bariatric surgery causing issues with high fat diets. When I researched and found another clinic who used Dr V's test results we were informed we actually have male factor infertility and I was taken off metformin and birth control (which Dr V's office did not have any record of having put me on).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Only go if you're already under a BMI of 38. There's no reasoning for this other than their anesthesiologist doesn't know how to handle obesity.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?

Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
I was 100% insurance coverage after I hit my deductible. I had $30 copays and had to shell out for a few blood tests. My main issue was with Quest Diagnostics and their billing practices.

When ever we reach out to her nursing staff with questions for the doctor she [Dr. Vitiello] always makes time to personally call us and answer questions or will also leave a voice mail as to not leave us in the dark.... She’s straight forward tells you how it is and explains in even more detail when you ask questions.... We have done 5 letrizole cycles with no monitoring dosage was 5mg x 5 days. This was done because FCNE thought it was the only thing covered through TRIcare Then we explained what they (TRIcare) would cover at a follow up/ create a new plan appointment and switched to the protocol below.
Multiple locations [FCNE - Reading] with multiple doctors both male and female doctors. Monitoring happens early in the morning to help for those who need to get to work on time. Getting an appointment with a doctor can have a several week delay. Same goes for scheduling surgeries. An outside company (quest) does blood work at their location in Bedford so you won’t hear back with results until afternoon. Busy days mean longer wait time for results.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
She makes you feel at home and equal. There is no I’m better than you or prissyness because she is a doctor. She loves when we bring our miracle daughter in with us and jokes that my husband and I are just along to bring our daughter to see her. She’s straight forward tells you how it is and explains in even more detail when you ask questions. She cares about your personal life and shares some of hers as well so that y’all can create a strong trusting relationship with her. She also has an amazing sense of humor! At my past clinic we felt like a number with Dr Vitiello we don’t.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?

When ever we reach out to her nursing staff with questions for the doctor she always makes time to personally call us and answer questions or will also leave a voice mail as to not leave us in the dark.
Describe the protocols Danielle Vitiello used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of New England and their degree of success.
We have done 4 injectable cycles with Gonal f and letrizole with monitoring 3-4 times each cycle 1st cycle 75 iu days 2-7 triggered with ovidril on day 8 2nd the same as above 3rd cycle 75 iu days 2-4 150 iu days 5-7 triggered day 8 with ovidril Cycle 4 new protocol days 2-4 150 iu all follicles under 10mm, days 5-7 225 iu day 8 to many follicles no injection day 9 cycle canceled due to 9 mature follicles ranging in size from 14-18
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of New England.
Attenitive to answer my questions and fixing issues quickly. Lack of communication has happened a couple of times.
Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of New England.
Multiple locations with multiple doctors both male and female doctors.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
We have a cost share with our insurance. Each injectable cycle with monitoring costs us around $100 and then $100 for medication. We however do not have any IVF coverage.
What specific things went wrong at Fertility Centers of New England?
  • Failed to call with results
  • Failed to order appropriate test
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility Centers of New England.
There seems to be one bad apple of a nurse that can’t seem to do her job correctly. Forgets to put orders in for things ie ultrasound has happened twice. Has given results with out full instructions. Tends to be short and do just the bare minimum.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Vitiello is great. She is very blunt and tells your exactly how it is which is exactly what I want in my RE. Even though our first round failed, she was honest about our chances of succeeding in another round. I have DOR so we know that we won’t gets tons of eggs, but she did explain that that my body responded as we expected and that we do have potential for retrieving more eggs in future cycles. We are due to start our next cycle on October 2018.
It can be difficult to get an appointment [at Fertility Centers of New England] as they are very busy. When going in for monitoring and testing it is important to be there as soon as they open, otherwise you can spend a long time waiting. Sunday’s are especially busy as they are one of the few FCNE clinics that are actually open. You have to sign in for bloods and ultrasound, otherwise you will sit there all morning.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Ask a lot of questsions. I think that sometimes she assumes you know more than you do, but she will break it all down for you when you ask.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr. Vitiello has been amazing through this process. With DOR our expectations are lower than what others might go in with. She has been very honest about expectations and how I am responding to the meds. Our first round resulted in only 1 egg which failed to fertilize correctly. She did not push us to try another cycle, but was very honest about chances of success. When we elected to try another cycle she was elated!
Describe the protocols Danielle Vitiello used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of New England and their degree of success.
First Cycle: Estrace Priming Protocol: - Menopure - Gonal-F - Cetrotide I don’t remember the exact doses, but they were quite high. I stunned for 14 days. We only retrieved one egg and it fertilized incorrectly. Second Cycle: Micro flare Protocol: - Lurton - Gonal-f - menopure Exact doses TBD as we haven’t started this cycle yet.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of New England.
FCNE has a patient portal that all communication goes through. Emails explaining changes in meds are clear and concise and come early enough in the day that if you need more meds you have time to order them.

Clinic has early morning monitoring appointments which is convenient with my work schedule. I was able to get in and out and to work on time. It is a cattle call, but it is very well organized.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
Medicine was unfortunately through CVS Caremark due to my insurance. I have a lifetime max if $10,000 for medication which we used 100% of during our first cycle.
Describe Danielle Vitiello's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Centers of New England.
Dr. Vitiello is willing to do multiple embryo transfers if we can get more than one fertilized embryo.

Dr. Vitiello can be very blunt which can be seen as a strength or a weakness depending on personal preference. First, time we met her...she told us she would not do IVF with my own eggs because it would be like stealing our money. That made us go to another clinic immediately.... We did one IVF with own eggs which was cancelled before transfer because the 3 embryos created did not make it to day 5. The next treatment was Donor Eggs.
FCNE has no strengths to speak of through our 4 years of services with them.... The clinic refused to individualize our care. They charge by package deals regardless of if the tests have been completed before or not. At one point we spoke to someone named, Barry in the financial department who stated "we are not some type of Medicaid clinic, we are for profit business."...The Reading facility was less than up to par as well with filthy bathrooms, extremely dirty rugs and chairs

Dr. Vitiello can be very blunt which can be seen as a strength or a weakness depending on personal preference. First, time we met her...she told us she would not do IVF with my own eggs because it would be like stealing our money. That made us go to another clinic immediately. However, we then had got new insurance that had some fertility coverage which made us have to switch back to FCNE.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Do not expect compassion or individualized care. Educate yourself immensely so that you can be informed before making any final decisions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Treated like a number. None of our services were individualized and we felt like they only cared about there success stats and not our personal well being or care.
Describe the protocols Danielle Vitiello used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of New England and their degree of success.
We did one IVF with own eggs which was cancelled before transfer because the 3 embryos created did not make it to day 5. The next treatment was Donor Eggs. We were highly encouraged to do a fresh cycle which we trusted the doctors professional opinion seeing how donor eggs was whole new world to us. After paying a lot more for a fresh cycle we were then convinced to do additional testing on the embryos created which then had to be frozen. WE had 4 great embryos in the end and decided to transfer 2 the first time. Later discovering that the transfer day was wrong after ERA testing. So our first two embryos were literally thrown away. The next two cycles our transfer day was adjusted due to the ERA results.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of New England.
I asked a lot of questions and felt I annoyed the nurse by doing so. I felt that I was my own nurse which was rather concerning seeing how I was supposed to be the patient. The communication was unsatisfactory as well as the turn around time for answers or calls back.
Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of New England.
FCNE has no strengths to speak of through our 4 years of services with them. I sadly just assumed that was the fertility world care until we lost insurance and decided to move on from FCNE. From our first visit with our new clinic we quickly discovered how terrible their services actually were and that terrible services do not need to go hand in hand with fertility treatments or care.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Fertility Centers of New England.
It depended on the day. Sometimes monitoring went smoothly, other times it was over an hour waiting, or in proper orders in the system or no orders at all. Speaking of monitoring for all four years of services there was a lovely giant bug in the light fixture above the ultrasound table at the Bedford, NH location...I have numerous pictures of this disturbing focal point. The Reading facility was less than up to par as well with filthy bathrooms, extremely dirty rugs and chairs in the waiting room as well as curtains that were disgustingly stained in the retrieval and transfer section of the clinic.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
The cost was somewhat typical, however almost all there costs are considered package deals and they will not individualize and will charge you for tests that have already been completed because it is part of the package deal. As Barry in finance rudely stated, "we are not some type of Medicaid clinic, we are for profit business."
What specific things went wrong at Fertility Centers of New England?

At one point we spoke to someone named, Barry in the financial department who stated "we are not some type of Medicaid clinic, we are for profit business." We had a breach of privacy with the clinic and our anonymous donor was informed of our financial status. FCNE clinic is extremely unprofessional and clearly as Barry stated only looking to make a profit regardless of who is affected along the way.

I attempted three IVF cycles with Dr. Vitiello using my own eggs and my husbands sperm. We did two antagonist cycles and a microflare cycle, all with negative pregnancy results. The first cycle was very poor with one egg being retrieved and no opportunity for transfer. The subsequent two cycles were a little better. We transferred one embryo each time and neither implanted. We also used ICSI each time. After each cycle, Dr. Vitiello changed the protocol slightly in hopes of achieving success.
All of the nurses [at Fertility Centers of NE] were caring and knowledgeable. They responded to my questions via telephone quickly. It would have been helpful to have been assigned one nurse, but I felt comfortable speaking with and working with everyone I came in contact with.... The clinic appeared clean and well organized. They use a patient portal, which is very helpful. Directions and communication appear online and if you have a question you can call and speak to a nurse. The monitoring was first come, first served which made things a little stressful. I always felt like I had to arrive when the doors opened or else I could be waiting a very long time for an ultrasound.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
When meeting with Dr. Vitiello, she broke down procedures and explained them with visuals and comparisons. She was very in her explanations; however, sometimes she spoke too quickly and covered a lot of information at once which was overwhelming. When performing procedures, she made me feel comfortable and relaxed. She was caring yet straightforward.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
One piece of advice would be to arrive with a list of questions so you know what you want to cover when meeting with Dr. Vitiello. It is typical to only speak to the nurses once in a cycle.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
I felt treated like a human under Dr. Vitiello's care. She met with me and spoke honestly about upcoming treatment protocols. When we were undergoing any procedure - small or large - whether with a doctor or nurse, I was treated with respect and care.

I was fortunate to have the majority of my care covered by insurance. We paid several hundred dollars for medication.

[Dr. Danielle Vitiello is] Very knowledgeable, but poor patient communication. Every time I met with her I left feeling like my concerns were discounted. For instance in my very first consult we discussed autoimmune issues and recurrent miscarriages. However after several months and no testing for autoimmune disorders when I asked about it again she did a complete 180° Telling me there was no factual evidence supporting that theory. It made me feel like initially she had just told me whatever I wanted to hear to get me through the door.
For the most part, the nurses [at Fertility Center of NE] are wonderful. Compassionate, patient and knowledgeable. I never felt like I was bothering them which was a huge concern of mine. I felt more compassion from them than I did from my doctor.... My husbands lab results somehow vanished. They blamed it on a third party company they had used to process it. Additionally they do not call with lad results, you'll need to call them. When I did call for my husbands siemens analysis they only told me part of his results, leaving me to assume if they didn't mention the rest it was normal. Then three weeks later at a follow up appointment I found out that was incorrect and no one had thought to mention it sooner.

Be your own advocate. She is very smart, but if you are a patient of hers you will need to advocate for yourself and your concerns as well as do your own research and ask questions to understand her theories and thought process.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
She has a more sterile approach and bedside manner. Poor patient education. Feels like she's just trying to say whatever she can to get you out the door.

She ordered the typical RPL panel, did a sono hsg, ultrasounds and an endometrial biopsy. The only thing that was treated was my subclinical hypothyroidism.

Flexible early hours for blood work and ultrasounds which is super convenient if you work full time. Be prepared to drive to the reading MA location for any procedures.

Appointment and ultrasounds seemed very expensive while bloodworm was inexpensive. I found their IVF prices to be very inexpensive as well

...but my time with the 2 previous doctors left me frustrated, anxious, and feeling that I had wasted so much time and money with more questions than answers. Dr. Vitiello has a great sense of humor and a personality that makes you feel like you have known her forever, which can make a very stressful situation much more encouraging and relaxing. My husband and I immediately felt comfortable with her and hopeful again.
I had experiences with many different nurses [at Fertility Centers of New England] throughout this process and the level of care/compassion/friendliness varied. The nurses during my procedures were always great and so nice. The nurses returning phone calls always did a great job of returning calls by the end of the day or responding in the portal (which is frustrating if you actually want to talk to a person and not just read a response); however, they were also vague at times, even when asked very direct questions. I would have preferred to have direct email access to Dr. Vitiello, rather than having to ask everything through the nurses when things came up.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr. Vitiello comes across very confident and knowledgeable in her field, which is reassuring. She tends to explain things very quickly, so if you don't know what to expect or what questions to ask, you may not always get that information. She never made us feel rushed and seems to genuinely care about her patients. Her answers can be vague at times, as if she doesn't want to give too much information, probably to not cause unnecessary worry or anxiety, but this can be frustrating and leave you with even more questions down the road.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr. Vitiello has a way of making you smile even in the most stressful situations. She made my husband and I feel relaxed and confident, after very stressful and frustrating experiences at other clinics. While she does take the time to explain things and answer questions, she does not seem to go into a lot of detail and just gives the basics, so you may need to ask very specific questions to get the answers you are looking for.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
I had spent almost a year at 2 other clinics before switching to Dr. Vitiello. I started my infertility journey feeling calm and hopeful, but my time with the 2 previous doctors left me frustrated, anxious, and feeling that I had wasted so much time and money with more questions than answers. Dr. Vitiello has a great sense of humor and a personality that makes you feel like you have known her forever, which can make a very stressful situation much more encouraging and relaxing. My husband and I immediately felt comfortable with her and hopeful again.
Describe the protocols Danielle Vitiello used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of New England and their degree of success.
This is one area I feel that I would have liked a little more detail. I was given a chart showing the progression of my IVF cycle, but was never really given a reason why it was specifically chosen for me or the purpose of each medication. Also, directions are given through the online portal at different steps along the way, which made me feel like I never had a clear picture of the entire process until it was over since you don't know the next step until they send it to you. This can make it difficult to fully prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for what you are about to go through.

Describe your experience with Fertility Centers of New England.
The clinic has multiple locations for routine tests, which is great, but only a few perform the actual procedures so you may still have to drive pretty far depending on where you live. Don't expect a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere - most of the waiting rooms are tiny and can get pretty crowded during monitoring hours. The desk clerks/receptionists at each office I went to were always very kind and helpful. The ultrasound techs and phlebotomists were also very friendly and kind. One of the biggest weaknesses is that you do not have online access to test results and your health information, which clinics I have been with in the past had. This made it difficult to keep track of all the new information you are constantly receiving and reviewing any tests results, blood work, etc after the fact.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Fertility Centers of New England.
Monitoring appointments are done during a specific timeframe in the morning and are first come, first serve. Most of the time the waiting room is full.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
We did not have insurance coverage, so everything was out-of-pocket. With doctor visits, ultrasounds, blood work, IUIs, IVF, and meds around $15,000+.

I appreciated the bluntness she [Dr. Danielle Vitiello] gave when she told us IVF will give us the most bang for our buck. We ended up having to go through 2 rounds of IVF before getting pregnant and when our first round of IVF was unsuccessful she called me personally to tell me the results and let me cry it out on the phone with her. She was able to calm me down and reassured me that she will make sure that we get it right the next time. I have never had a doctor who delivers bad news and then will stay on the phone with you while you process the information and be a shoulder to cry on. On our second round of IVF we were successful and became pregnant - I will always remember answering the phone to a screaming YAY from Dr. Vitiello - not a hi, not a this is Dr. Vitiello - a YAY which showed that she was as excited as we were that it

On our second round of IVF we were successful and became pregnant - I will always remember answering the phone to a screaming YAY from Dr. Vitiello - not a hi, not a this is Dr. Vitiello - a YAY which showed that she was as excited as we were that it was successful and that she cared about us. I was lucky to have Dr. Vitiello perform both egg retrievals as well both embryo transfers and both times she made both my husband and I feel at ease during all of the these procedures. I highly recommend her to anyone who is struggling to get pregnant because she is not only a great doctor who will find the way to get to your desired results, but she also really cares about her patients.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
As the doctor she made the calls to us if something worked or did not work as expected. She didn't rely on her team of nurses to do that. She also made sure whenever we had a procedure we were comfortable and always had the ability to make us smile even if something didn't go our way.

I came to Dr. Vitiello as a last hope. I had seen 2 other clinics in the US and even one in Canada. We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. No one could give us a reason that standard treatments were not working. Dr. Vitiello wasn't afraid to look outside the box and try different meds and different treatment.
Very private, friendly office. Their [Fertility Centers of New England] satellite office staff are wonderful....Monitoring appointments at the satellite are tough because it is a small window of time. Some mornings could be extremely busy...You don't have a lot of nurse interaction. The interaction I did have was good. The use their patient portal for a lot of communication. This has its pros and cons. Pros are that you can always get a response through the portal even if you are working or busy. The con is not being able to respond through the portal or ask for questions or clarification.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr. Vitiello is a realist. I appreciate her opinion. She can be candid yet respects your wishes. She is not afraid to look outside the box, and is willing customize your treatment. Treats you fertility cycle as her own challenge. She definitely helps give you the confidence and positivity you need while going through treatments. She has personally called me if she had results, or concerns to share. The best fertility Dr. I have been to yet!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
She is wonderful! Knowledgable yet personable. She isn't one to sugar coat things, however she is respectful of your feelings.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr. Vitiello sits down and speaks to you on a personal level. She is very honest, rational and positive. You get a genuine feeling she wants to help you have a child as much as you do. She likes to draw things out for you and is empathetic to your needs.
Describe the protocols Danielle Vitiello used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of New England and their degree of success.

No one could give us a reason that standard treatments were not working. Dr. Vitiello wasn't afraid to look outside the box and try different meds and different treatment. Although our one cycle we did with her yielded a low number of eggs, we did find out that the egg retrieved was chromosomally abnormal. We also found my ovarian reserve was very low. She assured me we would find a way to make me a Mom. Right now we are in the process of a donor egg cycle with a gestational carrier. Not the path I ever expected but after talking with Dr. Vitiello I am completely comfortable and happy with our path to parenthood.

Dr. Vitiello was always up to speed on our history. She knew what we had tried and what had (almost) worked. She knew us, what we did for work, what we did outside of work, our families, etc. She was able to handle difficult conversations, when we were so upset over failures.
FCNE [Fertility Centers of New England] has a specific system for cycles. If you do it 8 times or more, you get familiar with the protocol, the early morning blood tests and ultrasounds, the medications, and the retrievals. You will not necessarily see your primary doctor for the retrieval or transfer. I had a few with Dr. Ian Hardy, who has since lost his license for molesting patients. That was pretty awful to discover mid-way through the process.
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Dr. Vitiello is extremely smart, and a clear communicator. She explains treatments, options, and success rates clearly and openly. She is realistic, and cares about your journey, what you have put yourself through to start a family.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
Do not get upset about hearing the facts. Facts are facts. Sometimes you need to hear them, and adjust your mindset to maybe take a different path than you expected to. The end result is what matters.

Describe the protocols Danielle Vitiello used in your cycles at Fertility Centers of New England and their degree of success.
Antagonist - 2 cycles (1 chemical pregnancy), Long Lupron - 2 cycles (1 negative test, 1 nothing to transfer), Microflare - 4 cycles (1 pregnancy ended in miscarriage, 2 gathered for PGD, frozen transfer and negative test, 1 positive pregnancy with donor sperm, full term)
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of New England.
The helpfulness of the nurses varied. I saw a lot of different nurses over 5 years. Some specialized in giving instructions for medication and testing, some were mostly in the surgical area for retrievals and procedures. Some were friendlier/more compassionate than others. There also seemed to be a lot of turnover. I actually had to correct them on instructions several times.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at Fertility Centers of New England.
Monitoring appointments is done early in the morning - 6 - 7:30 am. It was first come, first served. Occasionally the computer system was down or the ultrasound machine wasn't working, and there were long waits. But most of the time, they moved things along. The phlebotomists and ultrasound techs were some of the nicest people I had contact with during a cycle.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England.
My insurance plan covered fertility treatments up to $50,000. I had to pay copays for medications, and had a high deductible plan, so up to $3,000 out of pocket per year.
What specific things went wrong at Fertility Centers of New England?
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Failed to send your chart to another clinic
  • Provided conflicting information
  • Failed to convey critical information
  • Failed to consider drug intolerance
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility Centers of New England.
After a while, I became very familiar with the dosages and instructions for each IVF cycle. I do not remember specifics, but I know I had to correct the nurse on dosages/instructions on more than one occasion.

Dr Vitiello explains everything about the IVF process really well and keeps it real with patients about your chances of success and any risk factors. She also recommended the best course of action based on our personal situation, it’s not a cookie cutter approach. She’s very warm and personable and sensitive to patients needs...
Monitoring appointments [at Fertility Centers of New England] were provided during a certain window in the morning. They were very efficient, especially if you arrive during the earlier portion of the time window. I never waited too long to get in for either blood work or an ultrasound...They're very helpful, friendly and empathetic. The facility is very clean and functional. The operations are pretty efficient

One of the nurses didn't seem to know the history of my experience with the clinic and gave misleading instructions. Thankfully, I was closely tracking things and was able to point out the error and ask for an opinion from another nurse.

She [Dr Vitiello] does not have a warm bedside manner. She is straight forward and sometimes blunt. She said that her staff would be accommodating but most times they were not....Don't expect a warm, fluffy personality. But I did get positive results.
The fast food of infertility offices. They [Fertility Centers of New England] move a lot of patients in and out. Be prepared to drive to Mass for early morning lab work and procedures....Very inconvenient. It felt like a cattle call. Often sitting and waiting. Very early in the morning and no leniency. Sunday monitoring was an hours drive and the wait was often 30-60 minutes

They only do lab work and ultrasound for 30 minutes a day. Often I had to wait with a room full of other women. It felt like a cattle call. Egg retrievals were similar. They book one right after another. I was told I could wait for long after the embryo transfer than the 5 minutes they allot, but when I asked for longer, I was told I could only have 10 minutes because of the next appointment.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Centers of New England.
Took a long time to return calls. I left a message about medication once and was told they would call back after emailing the doctor. Never heard anything again.

Dr. Vitiello was very informative. She did not dumb things down for me. She gave clear information and clear answers to my questions. She was kind, pleasant, and pragmatically hopeful. I quite enjoyed talking to her, quite frankly...friendly and down-to-earth. She was optimistic in a way that did not feel misleading...always respected and used my partner's pronouns. There were just a few times when she used the wrong pronoun and she always caught herself and apologized.
I found that they [Fertility Centers of New England] were very responsive and helpful. I wish that the receptionists and clinical team had been respectful of my partner's gender identity. With our unexplained infertility she [Dr. Vitiello] gave us the best course of action that she thought would work for us...She is very down to earth, and doesn’t hold back information. Gives you very valuable opinions...She makes the whole process a little less stressful. She is serious yet tries to lighten the mood which is much needed. She is also very truthful and does not tell you what you want to hear, instead the facts and opinions based on those facts.
Waiting room [at Fertility Centers of New England] is small. Could feel a bit more comforting, less like a dr. Office waiting room. Other than that it is great. They are open early for bloodwork and ultrasounds which is helpful. Multiple locations also helps...[nurses are] Very quick to respond...It’s a first come first serve basis [for monitoring]. You sign in on a clipboard and they call you in order...Costs were $10,000 for IVF. $1,800 for frozen transfer. Another $4,000 for meds but that’s different for everyone.

Dr. Vitiello is very intelligent, came up with a great plan that worked for us, presented us with options that other doctors weren’t sure were possible, but they totally were! She was confident in what she was doing, yet gave us the facts straight so that we felt optimistic, but knew there were no guarantees. She is blunt and to the point, but gave us all the information that we needed to know. We will definitely be going back to her in the future.
The patient portal [for Fertility Centers of New England] had a glitch at one point, and our scheduled appointment got rescheduled to a different day that we were not aware of. When we came on the day that we had originally scheduled, they apologized and squeezed us in anyway so that we did not have to come back another day...Monitoring is very early in the morning and is a first come, first serve basis. It can get long on a busy day, but the clinic got people in and out as quickly as possible, while still giving everyone thorough attention.

I felt that she [Dr Danielle Vitiello] was fair and tried her best to help us...I really liked her. We had success with IVF, it wasn't until after the transfer that my body rejected the embryos. The only thing is that she was at times too busy. However her staff did a great job supporting this schedule. [The nursing staff] were awesome! Kathleen was amazing as well, she did all my ultrasounds and was kind and compassionate!

The only thing is that she was at times too busy. However her staff did a great job supporting this schedule. [The nursing staff] were awesome! I felt she [Dr Danielle Vitiello] should have explained me the importance of taking blood sugar medications, healthy weight, nutrition, vitamins etc in more detail. I went to her at my prime age but felt that she wasted lot of my time without telling me everything clearly and guiding me in a holistic way...Her treatment protocols were good as theyou yielded more eggs - LupRon I think was best protocol but her way of handling the whole treatment was not right

When I first met with Danielle Vitiello she seemed to truly care about my treatment...I felt heard and not judged based on my weight....we were told we would do all the testing and then talk next steps...After talking to her about the pros/cons she then informed me that I would have to lose 30 pounds before we could move forward. There was no specific explanation for why I had to lose the weight just that I needed to lose 30 pound and to reach back out in 3 months when the weight had been lost
The clinic [at Fertility Centers of New England] overall seemed great...I worry that information was left out to assure we spend our money with them and do not go to the next clinic. The clinical team was great and communicated well. Easy to contact and share information...Ask for all the information at the first visit, if you are plus size make sure you have a clear understanding...[nurses] were great! No complaints
How was your experience with Danielle Vitiello at Fertility Centers of New England?
When I first met with Danielle Vitiello she seemed to truly care about my treatment. She talked about how anyone can have infertility and weight/other things aren’t the cause of it. I felt heard and not judged based on my weight. After that appointment, we were told we would do all the testing and then talk next steps. After unexplained infertility, Danielle had decided the best course of action was to go straight to IVF. After talking to her about the pros/cons she then informed me that I would have to lose 30 pounds before we could move forward. There was no specific explanation for why I had to lose the weight just that I needed to lose 30 pound and to reach back out in 3 months when the weight had been lost. As a woman who is “overweight” but consider myself healthy I didn’t think that I should need to lose that weight. After explaining to a nurse that I felt it was unacceptable to tell me to lose weight, the nurse explained I had to be under a certain BMI for anesthesia and that is why I couldn’t go straight to IVF. This was very frustrating because at the first appointment with Danielle, she made it clear my weight didn’t matter, she at no point said my BMI would have to be under a certain amount. I wish she would have been open with me from the beginning so I didn’t go through the process to be turned away. I also feel as if putting a time frame of losing 30 pounds in 3 months is unacceptable. What I think I struggled with the most with Danielle is there were no conversations about losing that weight in a healthy way. It was just an expectation to do so. Going through infertility is hard enough that there should be more support from the doctor who is supposed to make you feel heard and important.
