Dr. Broughton takes time to listen to our questions and concerns...has followed up with the information requested...four cycles of IUI...unexplained infertility diagnosis and age (32)...wish we had more time to ask followup questions in an appointment once our treatment plan is decided or changed.
[Pacific NW Fertility] is very communicative and easy to schedule appointments with...have a clear and well working system to support their patients...knowledgable and provide additional information (like support groups, financial aid...)...nursing staff has been quick to respond to questions, timely during all procedures, and clear in describing each part of the procedure.
How was your experience with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Dr. Broughton is very knowledgable in regards to infertility treatment. I trust her knowledge in regards to the process. She takes the time to answer our questions or refers us to another staff member to answer them. I wish we had more time to ask followup questions in an appointment once our treatment plan is decided or changed.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
The advice I would give them would be to come prepared with questions and thoughts that you would like answered.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Dr. Broughton takes time to listen to our questions and concerns as we have met with her through this process. She has followed up with the information requested through her nurses and administrative department.
Describe the protocols Darcy Broughton used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
We completed four cycles of IUI. The rationale for starting with this treatment was based on our unexplained infertility diagnosis and age (32). While my AMH is lower than typical for my age, that has been the only abnormal test. After two cycles of IUI they doubled my letrozole medication to increase the chance of maturing more follicles. We were given the option to do 3 or 4 IUI cycles and we chose 4 to exhaust the less expensive and invasive fertility treatment option. We are now moving onto IVF and are starting with a typical process.

The clinic is very communicative and easy to schedule appointments with. They seem to have a clear and well working system to support their patients. They are also knowledgable and provide additional information (like support groups, financial aid...).
Describe the costs associated with your care under Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility.
I don't not have coverage for fertility, but my insurance did cover procedures like the ultrasound and blood tests at the clinic. Each IUI cycle came to about $800 out of pocket and one full IVF cycle will be about $35,000.
Describe Darcy Broughton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Pacific NW Fertility.
We haven't discussed in detail either approach, but based on the information received so far it seems the clinic uses eSET because of the risk that multiples in pregnancy can create.
[Dr. Darcy Broughton] has a terrific bedside manner while shooting straight with the facts...didn’t give false hope but also didn’t appear pessimistic...attention to detail and knowledge...responded to all of the “out there” remedies people told us about with research based responses
[Pacific NW Fertility is] Very prompt and clear communication...High quality research based doctoral team...Clean, professional, welcoming facilities. A clear team atmosphere among the nurses, doctors, and administrators...Very kind and good at performing their duties. Not all on the same page with IUI best practices
How was your experience with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Our doctor has a terrific bedside manner while shooting straight with the facts. She didn’t give false hope but also didn’t appear pessimistic. She guided us while not pushing us towards anything. I appreciated her attention to detail and knowledge of the many questions and concerns we came with. She responded to all of the “out there” remedies people told us about with research based responses that gave me a lot of confidence in her approach. I truly felt she has our best interest in mind and was willing to pivot as necessary based on our mental, emotional, and physical state. She was prompt in her replies, providing comprehensive responses and following up on any outstanding questions or details. I do wish we could have had more interactions earlier in the process. We got much more face time once IVF was the remaining next move. Through the IUI treatments, she administered one and checked in on us once or twice. Other technicians or nurses didn’t always use the same information that we got from her, giving conflicting info about the IUI effectiveness and what can help it be effective and what doesn’t. Our doctor ultimately gave us the clearest picture but I wish it was upheld across those we interacted with.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
She will treat you like a person. Be open and share how you are really doing.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Our doctor consistently shared research based information to help inform our next steps while showing deep
compassion and concern for not only our physical, but mental, and emotional well-being as well.
Describe the protocols Darcy Broughton used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
After testing, IUI, followed by IVF.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Pacific NW Fertility.
Very kind and good at performing their duties. Not all on the same page with IUI best practices (remain laying down after or not, each cycle when done back to back is more likely to be effective up to a certain point or not, consume limited alcohol or not, etc.)
Describe your experience with Pacific NW Fertility.
Very prompt and clear communication. High quality research based doctoral team. Clean, professional, welcoming facilities. A clear team atmosphere among the nurses, doctors, and administrators. It was always a pleasant environment with sensitivity to the clientele.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility.
Most costs associated with lab testing were covered by insurance. The rest of IUI and IVF costs were lid out of pocket in full and up front to receiving treatment.
What specific things went wrong at Pacific NW Fertility?
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Pacific NW Fertility.
Conflicting info about the effectiveness of IUI (more effective when done consecutively or not).
[Dr. Broughton is] a straight shooter, but manages to communicate sometimes difficult information/news with compassion. I never felt like she sugar coats things--she always backs up her recommendations with statistics/science...she's a skilled surgeon and is the only doctor out of 3 who was actually able to remove a persistent fibroid and scar tissue...Sadly, two FETs failed, and Dr. Broughton was 100% willing to change protocol for both my ERA cycle and the following transfer
PNWF has an incredible lab and very qualified doctors and nursing staff. Overall I'd say they are pretty conservative in their approach...You'll have a primary doctor, but you'll see most of the doctors in the practice depending on your cycle's timing. My doctor didn't do my egg retrieval, my ERA biopsy, or my third FET. However, they are all great... They are VERY efficient and I never have to wait long when I have an appointment
How was your experience with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Dr. Broughton makes is really great during exams and make you feel comfortable. She's a straight shooter, but manages to communicate sometimes difficult information/news with compassion. I never felt like she sugar coats things--she always backs up her recommendations with statistics/science, which I appreciate. When my egg retrieval netted one abnormal embryo and we were devastated, she laid out alternatives for us along with chances of success. We ended up going with the donor route. The clinic requires medicated cycles--I wasn't happy about that, but rolled with it. Sadly, two FETs failed, and Dr. Broughton was 100% willing to change protocol for both my ERA cycle and the following transfer. That mean a great deal and provided some hope. Separately, she's a skilled surgeon and is the only doctor out of 3 who was actually able to remove a persistent fibroid and scar tissue.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
All the doctors are busy at Pacific NW Fertility. Come prepared with questions and Dr. Broughton will make sure she answers them.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Dr. Broughton has been handling surgeries and treatment for me for a few years now, and is always super warm, friendly, and understanding. She remembers me and my story, and it's clear that she's totally on our team. She knows I like a lot of information and is very willing to answer questions that come up during exams and consult meetings.
Describe the protocols Darcy Broughton used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
For my first egg retrieval, I did an antagonist protocol and I had two follicles that were too far out front and the rest didn't catch up. We did a late cancel and tried an IUI instead. This was unsuccessful. Knowing that I start recruiting follicles quickly, Dr. Broughton shifted my next cycle to a luteal start, which lead to more even growth. I got 10 eggs, 6 mature, 4 fertilized, 0 normal. After meeting with Dr. Broughton, we understood if we cycled again, we'd have about a 20% chance of a normal embryo. We went the donor route, and the clinic requires that donor FET cycles are medicated vs. natural. I cycle regularly, so I was really disappointed to learn this. The first FET failed, and we added baby aspirin for the second, which was a "roll in," meaning I didn't have to do birth control and Lupron before starting estrace patches, and could just start with estrogen. This FET also failed, so Dr. Broughton recommended an ERA and another hysteroscopic surgery to make sure my uterus was OK. It turned out at had a few adhesions, and I was 12 hours pre-receptive, so the testing was worth it. We also looked at endometritis and did ReceptivaDX for endometriosis to cover all the bases--both of those text were negative. I can go into my third transfer with more confidence.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Pacific NW Fertility. (Assigned nurse: Erin K.)
I worked with two different nursing teams because there are IVF and donor nursing teams--both were excellent. My donor nurse contact is fantastic--she'll spend a long time on the phone with me explaining results and answering questions, and is very kind and compassionate.
Describe your experience with Pacific NW Fertility.
PNWF has an incredible lab and very qualified doctors and nursing staff. Overall I'd say they are pretty conservative in their approach--none of the newer treatments available at some other clinics in the US and abroad are offered here. This can be frustrating if you aren't finding success and have limited options for things to try. They are VERY efficient and I never have to wait long when I have an appointment (covid aside), even when they have to double book. You'll have a primary doctor, but you'll see most of the doctors in the practice depending on your cycle's timing. My doctor didn't do my egg retrieval, my ERA biopsy, or my third FET. However, they are all great so as long as you are good at rolling with that, it's not an issue. I 100% prefer being seen by Dr. B. because I know her the best and vice versa, but that's what makes them so nimble and accommodate your personal timing.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility.
We initially qualified for the multi-cycle plan, but ended up shifting to donor program after our failed IVF cycle. We paid out of pocket, and I think we put down about $27,000 for the initial plan. Transfers at the clinic are $4500-5600. It's not cheap, but that's no surprise.
Describe Darcy Broughton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Pacific NW Fertility.
My doctor/clinic will only do single embryo transfers.
Overall, it felt like like this doctor [Dr. Broughton] did not care about me as a person. ... This doctor did not treat calls - such as my call reporting my miscarriage - with a sense of urgency. ... She didn’t feel present with regards to my treatment, she didn’t return my calls in a timely manner, my treatment plan was the same month after month. When I wanted to find out a timeline to resume treatment post miscarriage, I only seemed to get calls back re things that could be sold to me.
Communication is the greatest weakness of this clinic [Pacific NW Fertility]. They clinic also charges a premium price for a decidedly not premium patient experience. The doctor came up with one plan and that was the only plan. No revaluing each month, no connecting with me on the plan. Just this is what we are doing. ... The clinic did not send my medical records to my new clinic as requested. When they send them to me, they included inaccurate information re conversations that we had. I kept getting new bills many months after I had moved on to a new clinic. Not certain why their billing is not more streamlined.

You will need to advocate strongly for yourself if you don’t feel confident in your treatment plan; I didn’t feel like she was engaged with mine, personally. Set expectations re communication- her perception of an appropriate response time might not align with yours (it certainly did not with mine)
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
This doctor did not treat calls - such as my call reporting my miscarriage - with a sense of urgency. Doctors that I had never called called me about my miscarriage prior to Dr. Broughton - literally the only doctor I called.

When D.r Swelstad left the clinic we were sad we liked him. We got pregnant with our son and lost him at 18weeks. Dr Broughton became our new doctor she is so smart and knowledgeable she was very sweet understanding and determined for us. We appreciate her.
Describe the protocols Darcy Broughton used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
Dr Broughton took the time to go through our whole history with us and each round we went through step by step. We did a round with her and she kept track of my body and how it was reacting. She noticed my lining was thick so she suggested we do a sis procedure and sure enough we found a polyp that was keeping my lining so thick. So we did a hysteroscopy and now we are waiting for Aunt Flo to show up so we can start another round of iui with trigger Letrozole and follistim. She also adjusted the meds and amounts daily. We are very hopeful.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility.
They do there best to help with billing insurance for things that are infertility and not infertility related. My insurance covers nothing with infertility so when we do my hsg or my sis procedure or my hysteroscopy all of those things get covered by insurance because they are not infertility and labs. So every little thing helps!

I think all of the doctors at PNWF are lovely, but Dr. Broughton appears to be the one who works with LGBT folks the most, which was nice for us...[nurses] were super accessible by email and phone. I also saw one of them at the end of every appointment during the ovarian stimulation...each blood draw during the ovarian stimulation was $115. The IVF total was about $23,000, PGTA testing was another $3,500. Each IUI was $376. We ordered our medication from outside pharmacies.

PNWF was recommended to us by our GP. This is one of the most organized and efficient clinics I have ever been to. Oftentimes I was in and out of the office <15min. They are always on time, if not early, and the financial person was always around in case you needed to talk about bills/payments.

Dr. Broughton is very honest and doesn't try to create false expectations. She has a friendly and warm demeanor but she is not cloying or over the top. The service [at Pacific NW Fertility] is good. The facilities in Seattle are nice, you do have to pay for parking. The one thing I don't like is that they have this $500 fee to initiate the IVF cycles that is not billable to insurance. I have no idea why it can't be billed and people there can't seem to tell me why...[the nursing staff] was available to answer my questions and clarify any treatment details.

Dr. Broughton is always warm and friendly at appointments, but she senses if you are feeling worried or upset and is sympathetic.... Since we just have one embryo, Dr. Broughton recommended an ERA test (mock transfer cycle where a biopsy of the uterine lining is done) before we move forward with the actual FET.... Don't expect to see her at every appointment. I was also surprised that she was not the doctor that performed my egg retrieval.
I've been with the clinic [Pacific NW Fertility] for about 2 years now (sigh) and have been pleased with the service. I feel like everyone is doing all they can to help you. I've heard this clinic is on the expensive side, but it is convenient to my work... Everyone on the nursing team was friendly and in a way more helpful than the doctors since they are the ones teaching you how to administer meds, scheduling, etc.
How was your experience with Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
I began seeing Dr. Broughton after Dr. Swelstad left the clinic (I liked him too and sad that he left). This was during my treatment after failed IUIs and we were ready to start considering IVF as the next step. My first impression was she was very warm and cheerful and seemed genuine. (I've had other doctors that have a robotic/fake friendly personality and this was not the case with Dr. Broughton). Although, I liked Dr. Swelstad (male), I felt I could be more open with Dr. Broughton.
I haven't felt pressured to do any of the various treatment options and she always takes time to answer questions. For example, when my husband and I were trying to decide if we wanted to do ICSI vs. traditional IVF, she was clear about the probable outcome but didn't push one way or the other in our case.
I am still in treatment with Dr. Broughton (awaiting FET).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility?
Don't expect to see her at every appointment. I was also surprised that she was not the doctor that performed my egg retrieval. I was not bothered by this, but some might. Personally, I thought it was interesting to see what the other doctors at the clinic were like.

Dr. Broughton is always warm and friendly at appointments, but she senses if you are feeling worried or upset and is sympathetic.
Describe the protocols Darcy Broughton used in your cycles at Pacific NW Fertility and their degree of success.
I have unexplained infertility so I assume I'm on the standard IVF protocol.
During my stim cycle (for egg retrieval), things were moving along on the slower side. About halfway through, she decided to increase Follistim to the highest dosage (450) and I continued stimulation for 14 days (longer than average). I did end up getting 20 eggs, but the process ended with only one embryo suitable for transfer.
Dr. Broughton recommended another round of IVF to try for more embryos, and although this I what I would like to do, I cannot afford that option. Since we just have one embryo, Dr. Broughton recommended an ERA test (mock transfer cycle where a biopsy of the uterine lining is done) before we move forward with the actual FET. We are about to begin the ERA cycle in the next week.

I've heard this clinic is on the expensive side, but it is convenient to my work (which is extremely helpful when you have tons of appointments) and I'm happy I decided to go to PNWF.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Darcy Broughton at Pacific NW Fertility.
In my situation, I've had to pay about 95% out of pocket. A small portion of some of the various tests were covered by my insurance. An IUI is about $400, not including meds (I think I spent about $500 per cycle on meds). One cycle of IVF is about 19k and genetic testing on the embryos is about 4k. This does not include medications for the IVF cycle, which were about 6k. The FET is about 5k, with about $500 in medications.
Considering all these treatments, plus the various tests, I would say I've easily spent 30k, and I haven't even had a transfer yet.
