Dr. Grainger took time to study our case. We never had to remind him about our situation between appointments. Even after returning as a patient a few years later, he remembered our previous journey. I appreciated that so much. During surgeries, he took time to sit with me and thoroughly explain the procedure, recovery, etc...is kind and compassionate. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand, while also not talking "down" to you. He listens and includes the patient in the conversation/planning for treatment.
I appreciated that the [Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas] clinic was always up front about cost BEFORE doing a procedure. The costs were hefty, but that was primarily due to medication cost...The nurses are absolutely amazing! They are then to offer encouragement, listen, and held my hand during bad news. Describe the protocols David Grainger used in your cycles at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas and their degree of success.
We tried three medicated cycles with Femara. They were unsuccessful. We then began IUI with Femara, Gonal-F, and trigger shot. My body did not cooperate always, as it would spontaneosly ovulate. Dr. Grainger listened to my concerns and we paused treatment to run some tests. In the mean while, we found out that I was pregnant.
We are in a new cycle of treatment as we're trying to grow our family. We skipped straight to IUI and Dr. Grainger recommended being very aggressive (heavy medication) as I have diminished ovarian reserve.

Our insurance is terrible and does not cover fertility. I appreciated that the clinic was always up front about cost BEFORE doing a procedure. The costs were hefty, but that was primarily due to medication cost.
[Dr. David Grainger] was open and honest from the beginning on what it was going to possibly take for us to conceive. Being male factor, he was upfront that IUI would possibly be a waste and being out of pocket, we agreed...[He] was always willing to listen and hear me out with any concerns or suggestions I had. He made me feel like I was important and he was on my side....
This clinic [Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas] is great and helping you get the ball rolling. They appear to be knowledgeable and experienced. Many of the doctors have been there a long time which speaks volumes to me. They are typically prompt to respond to calls/emails. Nurse provides direct cell so you can reach her at anytime of day. The only weakness would be just being more descriptive and slightly softer bedside manner.

Dr Grainger was open and honest from the beginning on what it was going to possibly take for us to conceive. Being male factor, he was upfront that IUI would possibly be a waste and being out of pocket, we agreed. His knowledge and experience gives me hope. He is always willing to listen and talk through my thoughts and concerns. Although we don’t have a success story yet, I feel he is on my side to get me there.

Dr Grainger suggested skipping IUI based on our male factor diagnosis.
For retrieval, my husbands sperm was hit and miss so we froze a good sample prior to retrieval as backup. For stims, we used menopur and gonal. We started out on a conservative amount and then increased the Gonal since I was sort of a slow responder. We ended up getting more eggs than we had anticipated. ISCI was used and we had 9 out of 11 eggs fertilize.
For FET, it’s a priming of ESTRACE and then PIO started five days prior to FET. I did ask about other options like suppositories but Dr Grainger advised me that PIO is the best form due to several reasons. I also asked about testing like ERA/receptiva, Alice/Emma, etc. For my situation, there isn’t much data that supports those tests and an increase in implementation so we have not done them.
Due to a few other factors, we did do a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. They ended up being very helpful and cleared up some issues (thickened tissue, endometria but not on ovaries).
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas. (Assigned nurse: Megan)
My nurse has been great. She has the personality that I need but it might not fit everyone’s style. She’s direct and to the point. She’s open to questions and responds appropriately or refers to doctor if need be. The other nursing staff wasn’t always helpful. If my primary nurse wasn’t available I tried to just wait til she would be.

The only weakness would be just being more descriptive and slightly softer bedside manner. I was shy at first and didn’t ask many questions - just went with the flow but being more descriptive about the procedures/treatments would be nice.

My husbands sperm analysis that was sent by the urologist to the clinic caused some confusion. The Urologist told us it was same as previous tests (low count motility mobility) but then when sent to clinic, the nurse said my husband didn’t have any sperm which was a shock to us. We redid sample and confirmed we had sperm to work with.

Describe the protocols David Grainger used in your cycles at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas and their degree of success.
For the IUI cycles, I was prescribed letrizole. I don’t recall the medication for the trigger shot. Each time I had between 1 and 2 mature follicles. I have a diagnosis of endometriosis, and husband has morphology issues. Ivf egg retrieval included 225-300 IU Gonal F, and 75-150 IU Menopur. Cetrotide was added later in cycle.
Trigger shot, then retrieved 28 eggs.
7 made it to day 5, then we’re frozen. Went on birth control for a month and then on to estradiol, once closer to transfer, started letrozole injections. After transfer, continued both protocols. I just completed transfer, so not sure if the transfer was successful.

One thing I like about this clinic is that when you’re doing injections, your coordinator gives you her after hours number and you can easily reach her if you have any questions while doing the injections. The clinic is clean and staff is friendly. Hours are reasonable. They are closed for an hour for lunch every day which makes sense but not always convenient. Overall, very happy with my experience
Describe the costs associated with your care under David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
Our insurance covered most of the expenses. We had to put down $4000 prior to starting ivf cycles and the carrier screening was $200 each person. IUIs had just a $50 copay.
Describe David Grainger's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.

Took Ferma, trigger shot, and progesterone.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
It was a different nurse every time. The first round of treatment the nurse told me how to take all the medications. It was a lot as this was my first time doing anything like this. She assured me that the directions would be on the prescriptions they were not. I called back after picking them up and talked to her about the directions on how to take the meds. I wrote down what she said. Well my cycle was severely delayed with a negative PT(and it never is). When I called to ask what was going on the nurse that time asked how I was taking meds and told me I was taking them all wrong. The next round of treatment the nurse told me
to take 3 doses of Fermara a day. I asked her why my treatment had changed and asked her to double check. She came back and told me that it was the same and I should take 2 a day. When I came in for my mid-cycle sono the sono tech could not find my ovaries (that has never happened) I asked her why she could not give me an answer. Told her about my experiences of getting wrong directions and two different ones last cycle and she told me my treatment plan has changed and the Dr was supposed to call me to tell that. No one had ever called and I was supposed to have taken 3 doses of Fermara.

Dr. Grainger is great. The first time we met I could tell he had read and gone through my files very thoroughly...I find him to be very open, honest and compassionate. He thoroughly explains things and answers all my questions...not all my procedures and appointments are with him...protocol the other doctor used didn’t yield as many eggs as expected so Dr. Grainger took that into consideration and changed up my protocol...We were able to get almost twice as many eggs

How was your experience with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
Dr. Grainger is great. The first time we met I could tell he had read and gone through my files very thoroughly. I was surprised how many details he knew/remembered. He has never made me feel like just a number. I find him to be very open, honest and compassionate. He thoroughly explains things and answers all my questions... and I tend to have a lot of them. The only possible negative is that not all my procedures and appointments are with him. I was warned this would be the case when I requested him as my doctor though and the rest of the staff has been just as great so I’m okay with it.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
Be aware that not all appointments will be with Dr. Grainger and his schedule can get pretty busy making it harder to get in with him for certain things.

Describe the protocols David Grainger used in your cycles at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas and their degree of success.
I saw another doctor in another state prior to Dr Grainger. The protocol the other doctor used didn’t yield as many eggs as expected so Dr. Grainger took that into consideration and changed up my protocol and did not use Lupron thinking it may have suppressed my ovaries too much. We were able to get almost twice as many eggs with this change in protocol.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas. (Assigned nurse: Megan Rolfs)
The nursing staff is very friendly. A few of them actually remember me each time I come in. The ivf nurse, Megan, is great at answering all my questions. During my ivf cycle, embryo transfers and my pregnancy I had lots of questions and she always did her best to answer them for me.
Describe your experience with Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
I really like this clinic. The staff is friendly, the location is easy to get to. I really have no complaints. One thing that is good to note that could be seem as a con is that they are now partnered with KU Med in Kansas City, the clinic is in Wichita. Ultrasounds and appointments with the doctors are in Wichita but procedures like egg retrievals and embryo transfers are done in Kansas City by the staff there, not by Dr. Grainger.

Dr Grainger was amazing! He helped me and my husband understand the process, he was willing to help us when we had an abrupt move and encouraged us along the way...The first month before doing IUI, I had a few ultrasounds to see how many follicles I had. He put me on Femara (1 pill 2 times per day) for 5 days...My spouse wasn’t put on any hormones to help with sperm production and his numbers decreased making our chances extremely low.
[nurse of Center for Reproductive Medicine]They always got back to me promptly when I had a questions, my prescriptions were always called in quickly and they were so kind...The [clinic]is clean, located very near to the lab they use and warm. It is a welcoming place with low traffic and no awkwardness. It is very clean and sterile. They offer a quiet spot for men and an inviting place for ultrasounds and treatments...

Dr Grainger was amazing! He helped me and my husband understand the process, he was willing to help us when we had an abrupt move and encouraged us along the way. We love him! Dr Grainger didn’t let us do more than 2 failed IUI’s before he was honest that those attempts would be negative due to my husband’s fertility issues.

Ask him ALL the questions! He knows SO much and wants to help. He is very intelligent and likes to teach his patients about the process.

The first month before doing IUI, I had a few ultrasounds to see how many follicles I had. He put me on Femara (1 pill 2 times per day) for 5 days. The result was 1 healthy follicle. We did an ovulation trigger shot (Ovidrel) and then went into the office 36 hours later. The IUI took place then.
The second month, I was in 3 pills of Femara 2 times per day and produced 3 healthy follicles.
My spouse wasn’t put on any hormones to help with sperm production and his numbers decreased making our chances extremely low.

Their pricing is GOOD! They are up front with the pricing and help out if they can.
Describe the costs associated with your care under David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
The clinic was up front with pricing. The IUI treatments were $650 and the medication was done through an outside pharmacy. It was about $300 in medications and trigger shots.
If we had competed IVF with Dr. Grainger, it would have started at $11,000. We would have added genetic testing for about $1,500. The cost for egg transplant AFTER the first one would be $2,500.
Moving forward, we plan to try an extended letrozole cycle before IVF again. He [Dr. Grainger] just doesn't have answers for me and we have done every test we know to do...He told us the risks of multiple embryo transfer and what he preferred, but at the end of the day it was our prerogative...has the absolute best bedside manner. He is warm and genuine, but he can find humor through the hard. He is matter of fact and likes to keep things as simple and non-invasive as possible. He's a realist and doesn't say things just to make you feel better or get your hopes up. He's a stand up, faith driven and educated man. Nothing but love for him. He is willing to take his time and show you that he is concerned and wants the best outcome for you.
Their [Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas] strengths are everything and I'm not just saying that. They're organized and small enough that it truly feels like family. I am greeted by my first name when I walk through the door. My phone calls and emails are returned promptly. I never feel left in the dark in regards to billing or treatment. I just love and adore everyone there...The strategies that have been used have been pretty standard, as I am considered "unexplained." We have no answers as to why things haven't worked subsequently after the conception of my son using injectables and intercourse back in 2015.
How was your experience with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
He is a man that I know I can trust. He is upfront and honest and lays everything out for you. The strategies that have been used have been pretty standard, as I am considered "unexplained." We have no answers as to why things haven't worked subsequently after the conception of my son using injectables and intercourse back in 2015. Even undergoing IVF, having a miscarriage, failed transfer, and a chemical pregnancy with the 3 transfers. Moving forward, we plan to try an extended letrozole cycle before IVF again. He just doesn't have answers for me and we have done every test we know to do.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas. (Assigned nurse: Chelsea and Megan)
The two nurses that I primarily see are Chelsea and Megan. However, all of them are great. Chelsea specifically has been an ongoing support for me and has become a friend. At the time of my miscarriage, she came into my room and just hugged me while I bawled. It was extremely comforting and I really felt her heart hurting for me (us). Megan is very informative and detailed, which I love and appreciate. She is organized and good about reassuring me. Again, I cried at the talk of potentially cancelling our IVF cycle due to poor response and she was good about letting me know that however it turned out, we'd make the right decision. As with Dr. Grainger, I love his staff just as much. They see more me than my own family at times.

Describe David Grainger's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
He has always stood by it being our choice. He told us the risks of multiple embryo transfer and what he preferred, but at the end of the day it was our prerogative.

One piece of advice I would have wanted to know before I started, listen and trust Dr Grainger, ask all the questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
Dr Grainger and his staff always made me feel like a human, not a number. All of his nurses were quick to respond to phone calls, honest about our course of treatments, and kind. When I experienced a chemical pregnancy in May 2018, Dr Grainger was so kind, gentle and reassuring that this didn’t mean we would never get pregnant again. He was, in fact, very positive, all things considered, because I was able to get pregnant. My experience with him, his nurses and the office has been great.

The strengths of this nursing staff are their communication skills. They are all extremely thorough, will answer all your questions. The nurses have always called me back less than 24 hours of when I’ve called. Typically, less than 5 hours of when I’ve called.
One weakness, the nursing staff is not always running on time. I’ve had to wait up to 30 min for an appt multiple times.

Our insurance covered soooo much, it was such a blessing. My HSG was $300. IUI was $600. Mid cycle sonograms were covered by my insurance. Ovidrel was $60 after insurance. Gonal F was $30 after insurance. Femara was $3 after insurance.

At times we felt like we didn’t get things explained to us as well as they should have been. I think because Dr. Grainger is so experienced he rushes through explanations on some things. He went over lab results with us but didn’t really explain what they meant. He didn’t perform the actual insemination but did observe the ultrasound and review lab results with us. While he did explain things quickly he was very willing to answer all of our questions. So far, we really like Dr. Grainger, we’ve only done one IUI cycle with him and are getting ready to do our first IVF cycle with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
Ask questions! If you don’t understand something don’t be afraid to ask for clarification.

Dr. Grainger made me feel really comfortable during consultation and ultrasound. He’s very experienced and had a lot of knowledge. He was willing to answer all of the questions we had. He was funny and joked with us and that made us feel more comfortable and at ease.
Describe the protocols David Grainger used in your cycles at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas and their degree of success.
I had already been started on Femara (CD 3-5) and dexamethasone (Start CD 3 for 10 days) from a previous Dr when we went in to see Dr. Grainger. I was responding well to what had been prescribed so we went forward with the IUI. We did do 250mcg Ovidrel to trigger ovulation and followed with an IUI 36hrs later. I had three large follicles and thick lining when I went in for the pre-IUI ultrasound. This IUI did not result in pregnancy. We are getting ready to do our first IVF cycle and so far he started me on Sprintec birth control to prevent ovulation prior to starting stimulation.

Describe your experience with Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
Every time we’ve had an appointment we have nevertheless had to wait and there was only one time there was anyone else in the waiting room. This was really nice for us as we are fairly private people. This clinic has designated collection rooms which was a first for us and made it easier for my husband to give his sample. Their lab facilities are fairly quick. We’ve never had to wait more than 15 mins to have blood drawn or be taken to a collection room. Everyone in this clinic is super helpful and knowledgeable. They are also open every day of the year except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day which takes a lot of stress out of the unpredictability of ovulation and makes IUI timing easier.
Describe the costs associated with your care under David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
We have met our insurance deductible for the year so our expenses have been minimal. However, they did charge $300 for an office visit and over $200 for a vaginal ultrasound. The cost of our IUI has not been submitted to insurance yet. The lab costs seem similar to other labs that I have had bloodwork done at.
Dr. Grainger understood my desire to figure out why I was having the problems I was, and how they might play in to my fertility challenge. He offered the option of surgery and genetic testing based on my story. I appreciated his caring manner. He is also very straight forward and up front with realistic expectations. He also performed my first ultrasound himself, which is done by nurses or technicians at most other clinics, so that made an impression on me.
They [Center for Repro Medicine] close early on Fridays. If you live far away, they didn't explain the logistics you'll need to work out for monitoring if you don't come to the clinic. Nurses don't seem very compassionate on the phone and through email. I felt lost in the shuffle, and didn't know if there was a certain person I could call to just talk and discuss the game plan. ... I was confused as to who was a nurse, who was my nurse, who was the insurance person, and who was the financial person.
How was your experience with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
What I really liked about Dr Grainger was his compassion and his curiosity and willingness to help me understand the cause of my infertility so we could then try to treat it. Before meeting with him, I was thinking that I would like to have laparoscopic surgery to check for endometriosis. During our conversation, he concluded that that was his recommendation without me bringing it up. He also did my initial ultrasound himself, and tried to locate one of my ovaries which had eluded many ultrasound techs. He was pretty sure he found it, but a month later I had surgery and there was no 2nd ovary there. Dr Grainger was also very curious whether I have a genetic condition that causes my fertility problems. He recommended genetic karyotype testing, which I was willing to do, I was just waiting for the clinic to tell me what to do. A month later I had laparoscopic surgery, then took a few weeks to recover, and then was ready to start a medicated timed cycle. When I called the nurses, I was told that I could not be treated until I had the genetic test, because pregnancy could be life-threatening if I did have the genetic condition. Needless to say, I was very angry that I had to wait another month to start any treatment while I waited for results when the test could have been done 2 months ago. I don't know if this was a communication problem between the Dr and the nurses, or if someone in the office dropped the ball somewhere. I also don't feel like Dr Grainger explained that if I had that condition it could be life threatening to get pregnant - I think I would have remembered that and wanted to know right away. Luckily, I do not have the condition. After my surgery, I had one short follow-up appointment with the Dr to discuss the surgery results and the plan going forward - 2 rounds of medicated (Letrizole) timed intercourse, and if that didn't work, he recommended going on to IVF (which their clinic doesn't do, I would have to go to KU Med in Kansas City). After the follow up appointment, I only had contact with nurses and the office staff. We did two months of medicated timed intercourse and then decided to move on.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
They close early on Fridays, so make sure to not have your "day 1" on a Friday afternoon. I know you can't control that - it just seems like everything happened to me on Fridays and it was always so stressful trying to rush to get a bloodtest and get the results send to their office by 11am. I live 2 hours away from their office, so I couldn't just go there for tests and ultrasounds.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
Dr Grainger took time to sit down in the office with me (not the exam room) and listen to my concerns and my history. Whereas I felt another clinic wanted to rush me into the routine steps of fertility treatment, Dr. He offered to perform my surgery, but I opted to go to a different hospital and he was ok with that.
Describe the protocols David Grainger used in your cycles at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas and their degree of success.
The first timed medicated cycle was with 2.5mg Femara. It should have been taken on days 3-7, but because of timing hiccups, I didn't get them until day 4, so I took 2 pills/day on days 4-7. Their protocol would have me do a day 12 ultrasound, and then give myself an Ovidrel trigger shot. Well I was out of town on day 12 and they would not authorize me to have an ultrasound out of town on a weekend, so I don't know how the medication worked on me, and I did not give myself the trigger shot. That cycle was a negative.
The second timed medicated cycle was with 2 pills/day of 2.5 mg Femara on days 3-7. I had an ultrasound on Day 12 in their office. I usually don't ovulate until day 16, so I did not bring the trigger shot with me. I had one 22mm follicle and two smaller follicles. I should have triggered that night, but we had hotel reservations that night (being that my clinic is 2 hours away from home). The nurse said don't worry, you're going to ovulate anyway, so just have intercourse. That cycle was a negative.
Dr Grainger never followed up with me for either of the cycles. I didn't know if this was normal, or what. But since we didn't do an ultrasound for the first cycle, I feel like we didn't even know if/how my body responded to Femara, so we wouldn't have known how to adjust the protocol.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
In person, I felt like the nurses I met were very sweet and compassionate. However, I did feel like I met a lot of people in the office in the beginning and I was confused as to who was a nurse, who was my nurse, who was the insurance person, and who was the financial person. Once I started doing the medicated timed intercourse cycles, I think I was working with the IVF nurse at first. They seemed to know their stuff, but maybe weren't very compassionate or patient on the phone when I was confused about how/where to get a blood HCG test, and how I could get ultrasounds for monitoring when I wasn't coming 2 hrs each way for them. Maybe we should have discussed all this in the office when I was there in person? I guess I just didn't know what questions to ask and logistics to work out - and I would have liked the nursing staff to have brought that up while I was in office.
Describe your experience with Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
Strengths: Dr Grainger was very kind and compassionate. Nurses seem knowledgable.
Weaknesses: They close early on Fridays. If you live far away, they didn't explain the logistics you'll need to work out for monitoring if you don't come to the clinic. Especially if your day 12 happens to fall on a weekend. Nurses don't seem very compassionate on the phone and through email. I felt lost in the shuffle, and didn't know if there was a certain person I could call to just talk and discuss the game plan. I talked to one nurse and requested a copy of my records for myself and she said she would MAIL them to me and they couldn't be emailed. After weeks went by, I called again and spoke to a different person and she was able to scan and email them to me that day.

What specific things went wrong at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
Dr Grainger is very busy but really took time to understand our case and explain things to us fully in our consultation and I believe he will as treatment plan changes in the future. He was kind, open and even shared personal stories of his family's infertility struggles and successes...Dr Grainger was willing to let us be as aggressive as we want. I feel comfortable making changes to the game plan and empowered to make decisions for ourselves. We were never pressured into anything we aren't ready for
When I have questions [at Center for Reproductive Medicine], I call and leave messages. They are very thorough. For our first IUI, I came in with questions and the nurse typed up the responses for me to have...Sometimes, it is frustrating to always have to leave messages and wait fora return call (as my phone doesn't have great service at work) but they take that time to confer with the doctors and make sure the information they give is accurate.

We have unexplained infertility. At our consultation, Dr Grainger encouraged us to be as aggressive as we like, though we are both under 35. We first did 2.5 mg Letrozole, but no IUI due to office holiday closures. Cycle 2: Letrozole 2.5 mg with IUI OF 32 million washed sperm. Cycle 3: increased dosage to 5 mg Letrozole. IUI cancelled, due to low sperm count. Referred back to urologist and can't continue treatment until cleared by urologist.

They went over our insurance and had us pay for most services upfront. The billing specialist called before the consult to let me know how much that would be ahead of time (about $250). For three IUIs, my insurance pays my side, but my husband paid $200 for the completed IUI cycle. I was billed for blood tests performed before starting meds each cycle.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas.
In our initial referral to the clinic for an SA (from my GYN), we were never informed of the initial results (neither us directly or my GYN's office). After a few weeks of no news, I made some phone calls and eventually got the results sent to my GYN, who relayed them to me.
I appreciated that he [Dr. David Grainger] listened, he showed compassion and he was considerate to the frustrations we had endured while under the care of another dr in the clinic. He recognised that we were not the typical couple and that the normal process was not what we needed. He answered all questions and let me vent when frustrated
I do not care for nurses [at Center for Reproductive Medicine] as one is slightly rude and the other tells me different things every time I'm in there. The receptionists are nice and easy to work with. I do wish they would provide cloth blankets to cover up with when doing Sonos. Paper blankets aren't very comfortable... I felt like there was a lot of different protocols and what they were looking for. In a matter of 24 hours I was told 3 different things on my follicles and what they were looking for in sperm for IUI.

Our first cycle of IUI, they refused to do a sono to confirm that my follicles were ready. Even though I had said that I felt like the follicles not bursting was a fairly common thing for me. Due to this, our timing was way off for intercourse and my follicles actually didn't burst
He [Dr. David Grainger] was very down to earth, and spent lots of times answering my questions and making sure all my questions were answered. Did not sugar coat...I did not see him at all for my IUIs, which was not communicated to me. The consult and meeting after the 3 failed IUIs we’re both very detailed and he did a great job at explaining. He could see that I was a bit overwhelmed and gave me a hug and said that we’re in this together which I thought showed some compassion.
Billing is so/so [at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas]. Wish there was more communication for what to expect...Nursing staff does always get back to you. I wish you had a nurse, my IUIs were always different people. They never introduced themselves to you either, had to ask their names. They don’t really seem too interested in the patient, just the task at hand...I felt like I was the one managing my care. I had to request labs. There was also an instance where the Dr said my lab was fine, and a nurse said it was too low, but wouldn’t have the dr call me to explain so that was frustrating

Dr. Grainger and his staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable with this terrible journey. I always look forward to seeing them. They make you feel like a friend but aren’t afraid to be blunt with you as to not get your hopes up.... I do not produce eggs on my own. I have used oral medications to try to create follicles. When these did not work the doctor switched me right away to injections. Because of costs we have done several rounds of injections with times intercourse.
This clinic [Center for Reproductive Medicine] does a great job of getting you seen in a timely manner. We could do ultrasounds and blood work in the town where we live but it is 1/10th the price to drive 2 1/2 hours to this clinic (no joke!). I could not recommend this clinic more to anyone!... Dr. Grainger could have informed me about my low AMH results from the start and ordered an HSG before putting me on treatments...Did not care to call and check or explain why we didn't change the dose after the first or second cycle...You were deferred to a nurse each sonogram and no one evaluated your progress or medication dose
The only strength is that it is the only one in the Wichita area. The weakness is that they know it and act accordingly. I was expecting professionals who were compassionate, knowing what couples/individuals with infertility already struggle with. You expect people that are thorough in their evaluation and clinically driven, after all you pay a lot of money. Instead they treat patients like animals/number.
How was your experience with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
I started with Dr. Gainger and within the first consult sonogram he found a fibroid. I did surgery right away and four Ovidrel/Femara/Timed intercourse, failed cycles during the course of 10 months. I decided to consult with a friend who is an OBGYN who was shocked to learn that an HSG or laparoscopy had never been performed. I had to firmly ask to speak to the Dr. since you are always forced to see a nurse first. Dr. Gainger finally ordered the HSG and said one side seemed to be blocked but he was not sure, we would need a laparoscopy or IUI next is what he recommended. I decided to get a second opinion and the new doctor read his notes and labs from when I started with Grainger and informed me that my . AMH levels were low .8 (Feb. 2019) and that on his notes Grainger noted that both tubes were blocked, although he had told me just one, possibly. I did new test with the new doctor and found that my AMH levels dropped to .5 (Sept. 2020) I truly feel that Dr. Grainger could have informed me about my low AMH results from the start and ordered an HSG before putting me on treatments. Dr. Grainger said the next steps were laparoscopy or IUI. The new doctor did not agree. I had 3 years without conceiving naturally, and both tubes showed were blocked and an IUI is usually when there is a male factor and we did not have an issue with that. In my case he thought it was a tubal factor for sure based on the HSG results and the time trying to conceive naturally. Although a laparoscopy could potentially open them, there is no way to keep them open and I would only waste my money and time since now my AMH levels are at their lowest. The only option is IVF.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
To fully have him do an assessment on HSG/AMH levels before putting you on treatment and to not sugar coat stuff. I feel like he did that a lot, and I wasted a lot of money on sonograms without an appropriate assessment. He needs to give his clinical opinions based on labs/evidence.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
You were deferred to a nurse each sonogram and no one evaluated your progress or medication dose. The nurse was nice but it only took two seconds for her to look and tell you to have timed intercourse between estimated days. There was no explanation, the nurse would only answered if I asked what the terms she would say meant. After three failed cycles and the same meds/lab routine. I had to firmly ask to speak to Doctor Grainger after my third femara/ovidrel and timed intercourse treatment was unsuccessful and he put me on a stronger dose for my fourth. Did not care to call and check or explain why we didn't change the dose after the first or second cycle.

He [Dr. Grainger] is a caring person. When I finally became pregnant I was scheduled to be out of state for work for three weeks (weeks 7-9 of my pregnancy). He gave me the phone number to a colleague of his in that city so that if I had issues I had someone to call...It’s been almost 12 years since I first started seeing him but I recommend him to anyone I know that is dealing with infertility. When we went back to start the process to have #2 I just happened to be six weeks pregnant already and didn’t know it. We found out during an ultrasound and Dr Grainger made the joke that he was just that good. I always felt that I wasn’t just another person trying to have a baby.
IUI with Femara and then a cycle of IUI with injectables [protocol at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas]...I do remember everyone being sensitive to the reason everyone had to visit their clinic...The atmosphere was warm and calm, and they were great at meeting our needs. I remember the lady who working in billing taking the time to explain what treatments were covered and what wasn’t, and discussing financing options so that we didn’t feel stranded to figure it out on our own.
How was your experience with David Grainger at Center for Reproductive Medicine in Kansas?
It’s been almost 12 years since I first started seeing him but I recommend him to anyone I know that is dealing with infertility. When we went back to start the process to have #2 I just happened to be six weeks pregnant already and didn’t know it. We found out during an ultrasound and Dr Grainger made the joke that he was just that good. I always felt that I wasn’t just another person trying to have a baby.
