Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Hock is knowledgeable not only of her field, but logistics and emotional care along the way...Good bedside manner and would call to speak 1:1. She also performed many of my ultrasounds herself...Dr. Hock was concerned about my TSH levels overall, let alone for getting pregnant. She carefully monitored my Synthroid intake, and advised on throttling very closely. I felt very watched after for the best results.
They [RMA of New Jersey] are clean and organized, and their Artemis app is extremely useful to keep track of everything, including communications with the staff assigned to you upon becoming a patient. I could reach out to my doctor, nurse, and financial coordinator securely and it made my life so much easier. From the front desk to the phlebotomists, every person made you feel taken care of. This is not a negative, but more of a heads up to prospective patients: they are so tight at what they do, you will feel like you’re being thrown into the process quickly, and all I can say is I’ve also been with much slower paper pushing clinics and this made me nervous with RMA. It’s actually a positive to get you closer to where you want to be, but prepare mentally and emotionally for your first round with them because they will work quickly to get you on the right path!
How was your experience with Doreen Hock at RMA of New Jersey?
Dr. Hock is knowledgeable not only of her field, but logistics and emotional care along the way. Form our first sit down as a consult. She made me feel sure about transporting my frozen embryos over from Cooper Institute, who I only had a positive experience with. The only reason I wanted to transport from them was proximity, and she reassured me of their practices, stringent review process for the embryos, and utmost care for their patients during IVF cycles. I wouldn’t feel completely cared for doing another IVF cycle with her if I needed to, but thankfully I still have good embryos I’d like to use first.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Doreen Hock at RMA of New Jersey?
Good bedside manner and would call to speak 1:1. She also performed many of my ultrasounds herself.

Cathy is very thorough and warm in her approach. I never felt like a number or like she rushed anything. She made a always very responsive and covers all the bases.
Describe your experience with RMA of New Jersey.
RMA Somerset is very conveniently located for me and has a wonderful reputation based on other women in my network. They are clean and organized, and their Artemis app is extremely useful to keep track of everything, including communications with the staff assigned to you upon becoming a patient. I could reach out to my doctor, nurse, and financial coordinator securely and it made my life so much easier. From the front desk to the phlebotomists, every person made you feel taken care of. Describe the costs associated with your care under Doreen Hock at RMA of New Jersey.
With my insurance and having hit my deductible earlier this year, I’ve spent about $1200 USD for transporting my own embryos from prior clinic to RMA, bloodwork’s & ultrasounds, medications, and my upcoming transfer.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of New Jersey.
Streamline and always quick. They really have it figured out.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Doreen Hock at RMA of New Jersey.
My insurance covers most everything. Have a small copay for some meds. A couple compounded meds I had to pay out of pocket for but could get reimbursement. When I had IUIs only my ultrasound days required a co pay, in IVF cycle I only paid a co pay one time. Nurses do complementary education for PIO shots the first time. CCS testing was out of pocket and included 10 Embryos. More than ten was $125 each to test and then none of the cryo was covered. $1000 to freeze embryos, $300 every time a sprem sample was frozen.
Describe Doreen Hock's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New Jersey.
They always recommend single embryo transfer unless the women is older. They always stress the how high risk multiple pregnancies can be and try to avoid that.

Doctor [Hock] is very friendly, warm and compassionate. Patient in answering all questions. Balances patient needs and wants with what is safe from a medical standpoint...I started with 1 monitored intercourse cycle, 3 cycles of IUI and then went to IVF with success. Dr. Hock was willing to consider IVF without doing endless cycles of IVF. She recommended implantation of 1 embryo only to reduce the risk with multiples.
The center [RMA] is clean, modern and professional looking. Everyone is friendly and personal but also respect your privacy. You must come to the practice financially prepared. Deductibles and out-of-pocket fees (except copays) is collected up front in full before any cycle is started...My nurse and nursing staff are very friendly and understand the feeling involved in the process. They returned my calls quickly and was patient with any and all anxiety phone calls.

Doctor Hock always called me personally after bad news and discussed all our options. She answers every question in detail and is very kind but also very thorough. She has gotten to know me and my husband personally and seems to genuinely care about us...Dr. Hock has been very thorough and laid our our treatment plan at every step. She adjusts the plan after each test and every bit of additional information that we receive. I appreciate her honesty, but she also gives news very clearly and kindly.
I really like RMANJ. You will not see your doctor at most morning monitoring sessions or procedures, but they manage your care. The team works together well to give good care and everyone I encounter seem to have reviewed my chart and be able to answer my questions...The phlebotomists are excellent...[nurse] Kira is always willing to answer our questions and never seems to get annoyed when we have a lot of questions and concerns. She shows both passion and an ability to answer our questions knowledgeably.

We tried to use the embryos that were generated when I was with a previous doctor. However, after two failed transfers, we did a retreival with RMANJ and Dr. Hock believes that the egg quality will be better. I have also adjusted my diet for several months, which should help egg quality and will hopefully result in a successful transfer.

It is pretty efficient and if you get there early, you won't have to wait long. The phlebotomists are excellent.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Doreen Hock at RMA of New Jersey.
We had general copays. We also had to pay embryo cryo and storage fees.
Describe Doreen Hock's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New Jersey.
RMANJ believes strongly in single embryo transfer. There have been studies that show that the success rate is higher when only one embryo is transferred. Their theory is that the embryos compete for resources, so it's better to transfer one embryo at a time.
What specific things went wrong at RMA of New Jersey?
  • Lost paperwork
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New Jersey.
We did have to call multiple times to have them realize that paperwork had been provided by our previous doctor, but I think that was a miscommunication about how the paperwork from the previous doctor was laid out. They weren't familiar with the format of the information, so they didn't realize that they had it. It was a bit of a headache and required calls between both our previous doctor and RMANJ to get it sorted out with who had our information.

Dr. Hock was warm and friendly and compassionate. She was very easy to work with. We were very happy under her care. When we experienced a chemical pregnancy she was very delicate with us and helped us deal with the disappointment.... Just to be aware that you won't always get to see Dr. Hock and that the patient should be prepared for that....I had already had two successful ovulation induction cycles from when we lived in London
RMA [of NJ] is such a large organization that you don't necessarily see your primary doctor all that often. The nurse who was in charge of my contact was quite cold and unfriendly. That is really what kept Dr. Hock from getting full grades.... Everyone else (other than the nurse) that I came into contact with was so friendly and warm and sensitive in their manner and approach. RMA is a large organization and yet I still felt well taken care of.

I had already had two successful ovulation induction cycles from when we lived in London, so Dr. Hock immediately went with the same approach. The first resulted in a chemical pregnancy. The second resulted in triplets who are five years old now! We were not prepared for the high chance of high order multiples from ovulation induction.

Dr. Hock is incredibly kind and knowledgeable and was very reachable throughout my entire IVF process. She changed my protocol after seeing how my ovaries reacted to meds during my first retrieval and it yielded significantly better results...Couldn’t recommend her more and looking forward to seeing her again for our future embryo transfers as we build our family!
[RMA of New Jersey nurses are] Incredibly responsive and kind. Available via phone or messaging portal with fast response times...Highly skilled with fast turnaround times for results. For routine monitoring, I went to a location that was closer to my house and didn't see my primary doctor, but I didn't mind this. We saw my doctor for all ultrasounds once we confirmed I was pregnant post-FET.
How was your experience with Doreen Hock at RMA of New Jersey?
Dr. Hock is incredibly kind and knowledgeable and was very reachable throughout my entire IVF process. She changed my protocol after seeing how my ovaries reacted to meds during my first retrieval and it yielded significantly better results (5 good quality PGT normal embryos vs 1 from the first retrieval). Couldn’t recommend her more and looking forward to seeing her again for our future embryo transfers as we build our family!
Describe the protocols Doreen Hock used in your cycles at RMA of New Jersey and their degree of success.
During my first retrieval, my follicle growth was scattered which resulted in a lower number of mature eggs received. She also noticed that my body responded better to low dose HCG vs. Follistim. For my second and third retrievals (we want 3 kids so did embryo banking), we tried estrogen priming and higher doses of low dose HCG and the results were significantly better.
