If you thrive more in a highly optimistic environment, or if you feel overwhelmed by being involved in all the detail, I don't know that she [Dr. Barbieri] would be a great fit for you. With that said, I imagine she is able to adjust her patient report based on your needs and I think she's absolutely worth meeting...took the time to get to know us before even diving into the conversation about fertility. My husband and I have very different levels of medical understanding and she always made a point to ensure we were all on the same page. I also felt that shes truly was willing to meet us where we were and she took our requests regarding where we wanted our treatment to start into account in making a timeline.
Kira [nurse at ORM Fertility] has been incredible. She has a great calming presence that is obviously very beneficial given the stress we bring with us. She gives us all the time and space we need to make decision and we have never felt rushed while working with her...Our first total IUI cycle cost us $2200 - and this included all of our initial diagnostic work...My husband is also very adamant that I mention that the sperm deposit rooms and supplies make for a bit of an uncomfortable experience - small, rooms that are NOT sound proof, and he had to ask for WiFI because provided material was a bit odd.
How was your experience with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I really appreciated blunt and objective presentation of the information at hand, and Dr. Barbieri is that kind of communicator. With that said, she was able to have objective conversations with us while maintaining a compassionate tone. We have felt so supported and encouraged through working with her and we both agree that we trust her completely. She's a real person and she is very candid about a topic that I feel you need to be candid about - being overly optimistic or reassuring can result in unrealistic expectations and I can't begin to express how grateful I am that she has been so clear about what to expect. She is highly educated and also highly skilled at translating her knowledge into information we can process. I adore her.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri took the time to get to know us before even diving into the conversation about fertility. My husband and I have very different levels of medical understanding and she always made a point to ensure we were all on the same page. I also felt that shes truly was willing to meet us where we were and she took our requests regarding where we wanted our treatment to start into account in making a timeline.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
We're still so early in our journey. We have done a single IUI cycle: 5 days of letrozole 7.5mg followed by an HcG trigger shot on day of ovulation and then the IUI itself. We found out in the middle of the process that I have tubal blockage and she left it completely up to us whether or not to proceed with the IUI after giving us the reduced success rates of implantation. She gave us her recommendation moving forward and encouraged us to think about it before making up our mind. Her recommendations were removal of block tube and then consideration of IVF given our inability to control which ovary would produce eggs in a given cycle.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Keira )
Kira has been incredible. She has a great calming presence that is obviously very beneficial given the stress we bring with us. She gives us all the time and space we need to make decision and we have never felt rushed while working with her. She has also called me to give me results and discuss them all along the way. She is very compassionate and well-versed in the process. I have never felt like I have inconvenienced her - even when I call just because I forgot something.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The clinic is beautiful. There is somewhat street limited parking, but there is a garage that ORM will validate for across the street. My husband is also very adamant that I mention that the sperm deposit rooms and supplies make for a bit of an uncomfortable experience - small, rooms that are NOT sound proof, and he had to ask for WiFI because provided material was a bit odd.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Our first total IUI cycle cost us $2200 - and this included all of our initial diagnostic work. Our first IVF cycle is estimated to cost around $18,000.

She [Dr. Elizabeth Barbieri] chatted during IUI and put me at ease. She also didn’t treat us differently for being LGBTQI +, young, and not high income...We have referred multiple people to ORM, and to Dr. Barbieri specifically. I could not speak more highly of her level of competence and care...I liked that Dr. Barbieri suggested every intervention to ensure we would conceive since we had been trying on our own for over a year. We cleared my tubes, did all the monitoring, used clomid, and trigger shot.
Everyone [at ORM Fertility] is knowledgeable, caring, and understanding. They are also very good at working with the LGBTQI + community...Great communication the entire team will help be calling and emailing for every question and concern...I liked that I had a point person throughout the process. Also, they are very good at working with you when it comes to financing and payment.
How was your experience with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri was very kind and made us feel at ease and really helped us to feel good about our cycle- which ended in a pregnancy and live birth! Our first child. We are grateful not just for her care, but for everyone in her office who treated us so lovingly and made us feel right at home at the clinic. We have referred multiple people to ORM, and to Dr. Barbieri specifically. I could not speak more highly of her level of competence and care. We were very nervous and excited to try, and our hopes were met with compassion and a high level of competence at every turn. She even gave us recommendations while doing the IUI to a wonderful place to eat, which to this day I think of as the place where our Marigold came into being, right after we completed the IUI. Just very personable and lovely. Great experience.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?

She is wonderful! Follows us on Instagram. So supportive and lovely.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
Great communication the entire team will help be calling and emailing for every question and concern. You will feel held during this process and no question is too dumb for them. I think this clinic fully understands and is trained to hold your hand through this process as it can be long and confusing and very difficult. The level of care is high because of this, and as a patient you can really tell that the training is extensive for the staff. I liked that I had a point person throughout the process. Also, they are very good at working with you when it comes to financing and payment. They allowed us to make payments and we weren’t expecting that. It meant we were able to move ahead, whereas before we thought we would have to pay everything up front. Everyone is knowledgeable, caring, and understanding. They are also very good at working with the LGBTQI + community. We felt very accepted there. The staff even walked in the pride parade that summer, which we attended. Very special memories there!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
The initial consultation was about $600, which we paid up front. We were able to make payments for the other services.

Dr Barbieri is great at remembering details about my life, making me feel like she remembers and knows me from appointment to appointment...If a portal message hasn’t been answered by nurses within a day or so, she answers it herself. She is thorough and clinical and also kind. Her bedside manner is confident and knowledgeable but also warm...She prefers to transfer one at a time...
overall it’s a nightmare to try to get ahold of anyone [at ORM Fertility Oregon]. Texting is supposed to be the fastest way to get ahold of someone, but if they don’t answer then you’re out of luck. They no longer have an option to reach nursing staff by phone, and when you do call it says you can leave a message and they’ll return your call in 1-2 days...they often did not call with lab results same day, they forgot to order prescriptions or additional labs that we discussed, etc...

She is great! If a portal message hasn’t been answered by nurses within a day or so, she answers it herself. She is thorough and clinical and also kind. Her bedside manner is confident and knowledgeable but also warm. Shes a good fit for us!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
No advice really, she’s good at answering questions and making sure you understand the process for the most part.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr Barbieri is great at remembering details about my life, making me feel like she remembers and knows me from appointment to appointment. I always enjoy talking with her. The issues I have are moreso with the lack of communication from the clinic as a whole.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
We were on a pretty typical medicated protocol. We’ve only done transfers with her and no retrievals. But for transfer we used birth control, delestrogen, and progesterone and it all worked as it should.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
For my first transfer (2019), we were assigned one person to contact and it went flawlessly. With our next two (2022) it’s been random due to staffing shortages, Covid etc. They assigned a “navigator” to me with a number to text toward the end of our second 2022 transfer into our third. Some days she gets right back (or someone is filling in for her) but overall it’s a nightmare to try to get ahold of anyone. Texting is supposed to be the fastest way to get ahold of someone, but if they don’t answer then you’re out of luck. They no longer have an option to reach nursing staff by phone, and when you do call it says you can leave a message and they’ll return your call in 1-2 days. The best work around is to call the appointment desk and let them know you haven’t heard back in a timely manner and they can send another note for you. During my second transfer cycle they often did not call with lab results same day, they forgot to order prescriptions or additional labs that we discussed, etc. I try to understand everyone being overworked and understaffed, but for all we pay to go through this and other stress that’s involved, having good communication should be the norm and not be something else I have to stress about. I will say, all of the nurses I’ve spoken to have been super kind and warm, just overall very hard to get ahold of and often feel like things slip through the cracks.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
We chose ORM because they have excellent success rates and we heard wonderful things about Dr Barbieri. She has been a great fit for our family and we’ve liked her a lot. The issue now is with the clinic- there communication has gotten worse and worse over our three transfer cycles in 2022. If I could go elsewhere I would, and at this point would not recommend this clinic until communication improves.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
It was about $13k for our donor embryo cycle. $4500 for donor program fee, meds, testing/monitoring, and about $4000 for transfer I believe.
Describe Elizabeth Barbieri's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
She prefers to transfer one at a time
What specific things went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Failed to call with results

Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
There have been times that I was not called with lab results the same day, and a couple of instances where they forgot to order a lab we discussed or a prescription. Luckily none of these things have had a huge impact on the cycle, but it’s been more leg work and stress on my part making sure things actually get done, because I don’t feel like I can trust them to follow through.

During my first IVF cycle I was fortunate enough to have a lot more interaction with Dr. Barbieri than my second cycle. I felt like I was in good hands when I was actually able to see the provider I was assigned to and she was giving me information about my cycle real time (not being relayed through another staff member). Dr. Barbieri cheered me on and was always positive. She answered my questions and was attentive. I did not get that same care the second time around. I felt like I became a number at that point....
had issues with the billing office [at ORM Fertility Oregon] billing the wrong insurance even after a copy of my insurance card was taken by their own staff member. I was called by the business office who proceeded to threaten to cancel my cycle because the deposit had not been paid, even though it had been paid and their billing system had not posted the payment. When you call, you often experience a very long hold time and have to leave a message and wait for a call back. When you send an email you have to wait a long time (2-3 days or more) for a response...

I was never given an explanation of where Dr. Barbieri was or given a variety of appointment times so that I could meet with her if I wanted to. I'm not sure how much COVID had an impact but I definitely felt I was treated differently in 2021 than I was in 2020. I like Dr. Barbieri and would have preferred to have every appointment with her or at least to be able to see her a few times over the course of the IVF cycle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
You probably will not see her very much so be prepared for that.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
During my most recent IVF cycle in 2021 I did not have any personal interaction with Dr. Barbieri. All ultrasounds were done with nurse practitioners. There were no consultations with Dr. Barbieri. The only interaction I had with her was when she responded to an email, which I found odd that that a doctor was responding to an email that was not really related to my treatment. She responded to inform me they were short staffed and it was taking the medical team longer than normal to respond to emails.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
I was on a regimen of Follistim, Ganirelix, Menopur and Omnitrope. With this course of treatment I had a couple of follicles but no eggs in either follicle. With the exception of Omnitrope this was the regimen I was on during my first cycle when five eggs were able to be retrieved. Dr. Barbieri added in Omnitrope in hopes that would help improve egg quality.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Some on the nursing staff were better than others. There is one nurse that was always could. The other two that I saw on a regular basis were kind and friendly and explained step by step what they were going to be doing or what they saw on the ultrasound.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The biggest strength of this clinic is the phlebotomy team. Gerry and Darcy on the phlebotomy team were great each and every time I saw them. They both were extremely, friendly and most importantly were able to draw blood with ease. I never had an issue with them. Regardless of who I saw, if the other was present, they always spoke and asked me how I was doing. I felt like a valued patient with them unlike with some of the providers.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
About $20K for the deposit for services with Dr. Barbieri. No medications included.

I requested medical records and found discrepancies in my record related to services that I had at ORM. When I first came to ORM I was assigned with a coordinator. I had one individual that I could reach out to specifically for questions and concerns and received prompt responses every time. I would love to see ORM get back to this more individualized model instead of it being a free for all. Often you are talking to someone who knows nothing about your specific situation.

Dr. Barbieri is a phenomenal doctor...Her experience both personal (she underwent IVF for all 3 of her children) and professional (over 12 years experience), knowledge, and dedication to this work is very evident. She strives to answer questions the best that she can often drawing out pictures and diagrams if necessary...She did describe the risks associated with transferring two but allowed me to make that decision...
The doctors at ORM are very knowledgeable and are really dedicated to this work. The clinic is clean, modern, and welcoming...Everyone on Barbieri's team was fantastic! Sweet, approachable and answered questions or called me back after consulting with Dr Barbieri within a reasonable amount of time. The doctors at ORM are very knowledgeable and are really dedicated to this work. The clinic is clean, modern, and welcoming. The only weakness is the long hold times when calling into the clinic. The only thing that went wrong was I was told to trigger on a specific day by my doctor at my last monitoring appointment. Later that day, the nurse who called to follow up after my visit gave me another date. I informed her of the discrepancy and she called me back after double checking with Dr. Barbieri and apologized for the error.

I don't recall the specific protocol for my first egg freeze cycle. As the cycle progressed it was clear that the response was not optimal. My coordinator was prompt to reply to any calls or questions sent through the portal. She was always compassionate yet direct when discussing results and next steps...The clinic [ORM] is very easy to navigate from parking through surgery center. It is so nice to have nearly all services completed in one single location. It is apparent that there is clear communication between the various departments at the clinic ranging from the providers, provider support team, integrative providers, genetics, counseling, and lab, which results in smooth transition between these groups. The facility is clean, beautiful, and welcoming. It feels much more comfortable than a typical provider's office.
How was your experience with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri was always receptive to my questions and concerns. She takes appropriate time with her patients to ensure they feel comfortable and cared for. I trust Dr. Barbieri implicitly and would recommend her to any patient searching for an intelligent and compassionate fertility provider.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Barbieri greeted me everyday with a big smile...it felt like she really cared every time I saw her...She didn't make us feel like we were wasting her time with questions or asking to re-explain things she'd already gone over. We felt we could trust her...explained things as we went, not just after the fact, which made me feel more comfortable.
The team at ORM is very on top of it! They know what they are doing and how to get things done quickly, efficiently, and make sure you understand...The clinic is clean and VERY well organized. Everyone is professional, happy and knows their role. They make it easy as a patient to understand the very complicated process of IVF.
How was your experience with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri greeted me everyday with a big smile. She always took time to ask how my day or weekend was or what I had planned- it felt like she really cared every time I saw her. During the ultrasounds she always explained things as we went, not just after the fact, which made me feel more comfortable.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Don't be afraid to ask questions. She cares and wants you to understand. But on the other hand, trust the system. She knows what she is doing and wants the best for you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri was very warm and kind. She told us the facts (good or bad) and got to the point with a nice demeanor. She didn't make us feel like we were wasting her time with questions or asking to re-explain things she'd already gone over. We felt we could trust her.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
So far, I've done my retrieval cycle with Dr. Barbieri. I took birth control for 15 days, once I stopped the pills my period started. Then shortly after I started the injections. Mostly 2 subcutaneous injections a day for 1.5 weeks. I had transvaginal ultrasounds and blood draws every other day during this time and they adjusted my medications accordingly. The last couple of days before the retrieval I had more injections, including a trigger shot. Overall, I didn't think the subcutaneous injections were bad- the menopur started to sting halfway through but it was tolerable.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon.
The team at ORM is very on top of it! They know what they are doing and how to get things done quickly, efficiently, and make sure you understand. I was impressed.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The clinic is clean and VERY well organized. Everyone is professional, happy and knows their role. They make it easy as a patient to understand the very complicated process of IVF. I can't say anything negative about the clinic, I have loved my experience there so far!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
I'm not sure total costs since we haven't completed our IVF cycle.
Describe Elizabeth Barbieri's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Dr. Barbieri told us we could transfer 1 or 2 embryos. The decision is up to us. There is a 59% success rate with 1 frozen embryo transfer with PGT-A (genetic testing) and a 78% success rate with 2 embryos if you are <35 years of age. Of course there is risk of twins, which puts you and baby at higher risk of complications.

Dr Barbieri provides a lot of factual information, which is helpful in making major decisions. She was supportive, answered our questions and appeared highly competent. I have full confidence in her as a REI and I would highly recommend her...We initially tried clomid, which causes me to develop cysts so then she recommended letrzozole. She has been honest when things haven’t gone well. She has her medical team review a checklist of different steps in the process including testing, genetic screenings, and blood work.
[ORM Fertility has a] Beautiful clinic and waiting rooms, very efficient and well organized. All staff were always compassionate and communicative in scheduling appointments and asking for more information. I also felt like they honored my privacy with the lobby layout...The care coordinator was friendly and answered questions. All of the nurses have been wonderful. The phlebotomists have also been great...medical team review a checklist of different steps in the process including testing, genetic screenings, and blood work.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Be prepared to hear a lot of information, statistics, and explanation of the options—take notes, ask questions, take deep breaths, bring a list of questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr Barbieri provided us with extensive information. She also kindly made a referral for pelvic floor PT and did so in a really supportive manner due to my physical discomfort during exams. She has helped us navigate a surgery recommendation, IUI, and multiple ovulation medications. She is now supporting us as we decide between IVF and embryo adoption.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
Dr. Barbieri reviewed my blood work, HSG results, and my partners sperm analysis. She recommended I have my right Fallopian tube removed due to hydrosalpinx, which my OBGYN later removed. Dr Barbieri has ordered various blood labs, IUI monitoring to track when the egg developed on the correct side since I only have one tube. We initially tried clomid, which causes me to develop cysts so then she recommended letrzozole. She has been honest when things haven’t gone well. She has her medical team review a checklist of different steps in the process including testing, genetic screenings, and blood work.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
The initial consultation and diagnostics was covered by my insurance. My subsequent surgery was covered at 80%. Our insurance said they wouldn’t pay for anything after that point, but they are paying specific claims...just none of the insemination billing codes.

She [Dr. Barbieri] does lead on the conservative side with preferring the transfer of one over two embryos, but we appreciate this caution do to the risks... knew our medical background and made very informed decisions about our protocol. We have felt the process to be very individualized...is straightforward, she doesn't sugarcoat anything. If you are looking for a doctor to hold your hand, she isn't it. If you're looking for a doctor who is clearly very knowledgeable and just wants to help you get your end result then she's the best. She is sensitive when it comes to knowing you are going through a lot, but don't expect her to process any feelings or thoughts with you. She is all business. I trust her completely.
Know that you will be in contact with many people at this clinic [ORM Fertility] not just your doctor and coordinator. The portal can be annoying but it's a good way to get your questions answered and to get documentation your concerns. Don't be afraid to self advocate. They are responsive to your concerns/questions/needs but you have to self advocate, they can't anticipate what you may need. Speak up...Stephanie [nurse] is amazing!!! She really knows her stuff. She works fast, is organized and seems to be one step ahead. It can be frustrating to be in contact with have multiple coordinators through the protol or when you call but if you request Stehanie you can usually get her. The nurse practitioners are amazing!!!! Alexa is top notch! She is so caring and very good at her job.

Before signing up, ask her if she knows what her schedule might be around the time you are thinking of starting treatment. She was gone several weeks during our cycle so we had to see other doctors or nurse practitioners, which ended up being fine because they were all great, but we did pick this clinic for her track record so knowing she would be gone often would have been nice to know. Would it have changed our mind about going to her or ORM? No, but I like knowing ahead of time what the landscape will be.

I felt that she [Dr. Balbieri] was easy to talk to and tried to be realistic about chances of success. When I did not respond to injectables, she urged me to cancel the cycle, which was upsetting, but after speaking with people who did do cycles with 3-5 follicles, I am very pleased she convinced me to stop given the expense and anticipated poor outcome.... I started on an IVF protocol. I had never done IVF before, had responded well to clomid with 2-3 follicles each time. My protocol was OCP for 10 days, then a few day break, started dexamethasone, followed by 2 menopur in AM and follistim 300 in pm. AFC was 16.
This clinic [Oregon Reproductive Med] is in a good location that is easy to get to, it has parking right outside, and all of my appointments except one have started on time, which is important when fitting visits in alongside a full time job. They also have monitoring appointments available starting at 7AM.... They provide an out of pocket estimate. Pre-cycle testing 2-8k. Cost of one cycle is $20,200 plus medications. While my insurance does not cover IVF, they did cover all the IVF monitoring appointments with this clinic, so the cost of my canceled cycle was quite low.

My protocol was OCP for 10 days, then a few day break, started dexamethasone, followed by 2 menopur in AM and follistim 300 in pm. AFC was 16. I was monitored on day 3,5, and 7. By day 7, I had only 3 follicles responding well so was advised to stop stims and cancel the cycle. It was converted to IUI with vaginal progesterone, which unfortunately failed. Per follow up discussion, felt that OCP was oversuppressing so advice was to start stims again as a natural cycle with no OCP.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon.
I ended up meeting with a few different coordinators even though I had one assigned to me. They were all helpful and able to answer questions about my protocol. When needed, they would talk to Dr. Barbieri and get back to me later in the day.

She [Elizabeth Barbieri] is great, but she rushes her answers and her visit with you with great enthusiasm.... On our last IUI, she noticed that my husbands sperm was low (as it was on the cusp the prior times) so instead of moving forward with another IUI, they referred us to increase his numbers before we continue with another IUI. The only thing is that she sometimes seems to be in a hurry but she will answer every question posed.
They [Oregon Reproductive Med] are extremely clean, organized and efficient. Their entire clinic is set up to allow for privacy and they are extremely organized not only in physical presentation but the steps you take to complete your visits is so well laid out (they have multiple levels to their building).... I have PCOS and Hashimoto’s. By simultaneously quitting dairy I seemed to reduce cysts on my ovaries. She had me take letrozole (day 3-7), followed by a mid-cycle ultrasound with an HCG shot to force release of egg.

I had very partial coverages for some labs performed and ultrasounds. These costs are approximate as I currently have the bills with our tax preparer: IUI procedure alone was $295 - Ultrasound (I had to have 2 each cycle) $130 each - HCG shot $170 - sperm analysis/washing/prep - $160-$200- labs = $400+ - letrozole $15 - HCG = $500 - Fibroid removal $3,000

[Dr. Barbieri] communicated the statistics and the risks involved with multiple embryo transfer. I felt that she answered all of our questions objectively and directly, but ultimately the decision was left to us...is able to speak directly about treatment and possible outcomes, but will also stop to ask how you are feeling. She remembers details about our lives outside of the "fertility world" and takes the time to thoroughly consider my questions before answering.
There were a couple of minor communication misses with my coordinator [at ORM Fertility], but nothing that a quick phone call or email didn't fix--if you have questions, just reach out and ask. Test results were delivered timely. The doctors at the clinic seem tp be up to date on research. The other doctors that I have seen (for example, for egg retrieval) have been equally as wonderful as my primary doctor.
How was your experience with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri is a good blend of a direct communicator and a compassionate doctor. She clearly communicates the risks and benefits of her treatment plan and will take the time to thoroughly answer questions. Dr. Barbieri speaks pretty quickly, so she may come off as cold or rushed to some, at least at first. However, she seems genuinely excited for us when there is good news and will take the time to comfort us when there is bad news. When I have approached her with questions about other potential treatment plans or possible testing, she has been open minded. When she disagrees, she has provided clear, research-backed explanations on why and generally proposes an alternative.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri may come off as distant or cold at first, but she has been one of the most compassionate doctors I have seen. Also, don't be afraid to ask all of your questions or express concerns.

She [Dr. Barbieri] was very caring and kind during our interactions. She also didn’t treat me like I was dumb. However, she didn’t make clear some treatment expectations and I did have multiple cycles where I didnt see her at all and instead saw one of 2 nurse practitioners.... She never suggested supplements or any course of improving my body other than trying to lose weight and keeping my PCOS caused diabetes under control.
They [ORM Fertility] are expensive, clean, and they tend to ask you the same questions repeatedly, which is anxiety provoking. They push taking out loans for IVF. Their parking lot is tiny and parking can be difficult. They are very slow about billing and you may not get the correct bill for 3-4 months as they bill you the full amount and slowly alter it based on insurance response. The lab work is paid up front with reimbursement based on later insurance response.
How was your experience with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. barbieri is very caring, it she left me anxious throughout. I hardly saw her and she left me thinking I would be “stuck” with IVF after 6 tries, which for my family meant we were done trying because we can not afford IVF. She never suggested supplements or any course of improving my body other than trying to lose weight and keeping my PCOS caused diabetes under control. I found out after 6 tries that she would do 6 more but that I should have also been focusing on my vitamin D levels.

Dr. Barbieri is a true professional. She made me feel comfortable asking questions, drew pictures and graphs in her office to help me understand the process and what to expect. She set realistic expectations by explaining risks and potential outcomes.... Dr. Barbieri is very down to earth, she related to me as a woman and told me that she herself used IVF to create her own family. She is warm and friendly but also very knowledgeable and knows the ins and our of the IVF and surrogacy process like a pro
The coordinator that works with all independently matched intended parents and gestational carriers at ORM seems to be overwhelmed at times. I often wondered if she needed assistance from an additional staff member. Our coordinator did not move as quickly as we had hoped at times, but always eventually got things done, sometimes it took pestering. I do have very high expectations for this person though, given all the money we invested in the clinic.

Dr. Barbieri is a true professional. She made me feel comfortable asking questions, drew pictures and graphs in her office to help me understand the process and what to expect. She set realistic expectations by explaining risks and potential outcomes.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
I would tell a perspective patient of Dr. Barbieri's to be confident asking her hard questions and trust she will take the absolute best care to make sure you feel prepared going into your treatment.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
Dr. Barbieri is very down to earth, she related to me as a woman and told me that she herself used IVF to create her own family. She is warm and friendly but also very knowledgeable and knows the ins and our of the IVF and surrogacy process like a pro
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
I was on a "good responder" protocol for my egg retrievals. I used ganarellex, menopur and follistim. The first round of ivf, I had 26 eggs, 22 of them were mature. We did ICSI with my husband's sperm and had 6 blasts on day 5. We did PGS testing and had 4 "normal".
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Christina Buck)
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
ORM is a beautiful and highly rated clinic. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Given that my husband and I don't suffer from traditional infertility, I cannot speak to the clinics ability to diagnose and address complicated fertility situations. I have a medical condition that make it very dangerous to my health to carry a baby, so we are forced to use a gestational carrier. Being that I was relatively young at time of egg retrieval (33), everything for us went pretty smoothly and we had the results that we hoped for. ORM is one of the top clinics in the country for surrogacy and we are blessed they are in our backyard. I'd use them again and recommend them to anyone needing ivf.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
About $30,000 for two egg retrievals and one transfer to gestational carrier
Describe Elizabeth Barbieri's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Dr. Barbieri explained the risks of a double embryo transfer and advocated for the safest approach given our situation of not having a large number of banked embryos, so we will transfer one at a time. It is ORMs practice to leave it up to the intended parents if they would like to transfer one or two embryos.
What specific things went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon?
  • Lost paperwork
Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
Our coordinator lost a packet of FDA required paperwork my husband had turned in. It forced him to do an exam all over again, and get the paperwork filled out a second time. It was not good.

Dr Barbieri is pretty blunt and honest, which I appreciate. After my failed cycle, she was compassionate, but also not very encouraging. She seemed to want me to go somewhere else (to another clinic)... Strengths: candid, clear, to the point, smart Weaknesses: always seemed in a hurry. After my failed cycle, she suggested I use a surrogate, which seemed way too early given that I have decent AMH, make embryos and am otherwise healthy. It upset me that she brought up that possibility so soon.
The clinic [Oregon Reproductive Medicine] is excellent--friendly, warm, organized, etc. They have great success rates, even though I wasn't successful there.... The embryologists are lovely, my clinical coordinator, Jenni, was wonderful. Just didn't like my nurse at all... She was cold and distant. When she told me that I had had a chemical pregnancy, she left a cold, compassion-less vm, at the end, saying "let me know if you have any questions or concerns..."

Antagonist protocol. Freeze all. Then transfer one embryo. I made 24 eggs. 6, 5 day embryos. Only 1 was genetically normal. One was mosaic. They transferred that one healthy one and I had a chemical pregnancy. They don't transfer mosaics.
Describe your experience with your nurse at ORM Fertility Oregon. (Assigned nurse: Katie McLindsay)
I did not like Katie at all. She was cold and distant. When she told me that I had had a chemical pregnancy, she left a cold, compassion-less vm, at the end, saying "let me know if you have any questions or concerns..." Of COURSE I had concerns..It seemed like a stock vm to me. If I ever go back to ORM, I would request a different nurse.

Dr Barbieri is incredible! From walking through each step of the process, answering questions prior to each procedure at the consult appointment, to providing plan when the result was ectopic or negative- she is wellness organized, kind and gives it to you straight, which is a breath of fresh air after years of unexplained infertility....She was with me during times of happiness and provided support including “next steps or the plan” when the outcome was not what we had hoped. She takes the time to answer all questions and not just for us, it’s that way for every patient.
The clinic is beautiful. The staff incredibly knowledgeable, organized and friendly. You are in great hands with your family building journey here...As a new patient, parking can be challenging so allow for time to find a space...Dr Barbieri is omen of the most compassionate and honest physicians I know....She takes the time to answer all questions and not just for us, it’s that way for every patient.... the time and energy at each appointment was maximized.

She’s kind and straight forward once we had “done all we could do” she explained that hard topic to us as well. She never made me feel inadequate ORM dismissed my tears- very empathic though providing a plan, which helped us feel that the time and energy at each appointment was maximized. Because of Dr. Barbieri we have our little one and we are eternally grateful to her and ORM.

Too many procedures and protocols to list. 7 years is a long length of time. To list a few: hysteroscopy, IUI, IVF, endometrial scratching, endometrial biopsy, egg retrieval, ICSI
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The clinic is beautiful. The staff incredibly knowledgeable, organized and friendly. You are in great hands with your family building journey here, in my opinion they are the best. Remember everyone at the clinic is at a different phase of their journey, even when you feel like the only one. It helped to put it into perspective while sitting in the lobby awaiting the appt. As a new patient, parking can be challenging so allow for time to find a space.

She provided the details of each respectively and we were able to make a mutual decision of transferring a set (2) resulting in our 1 child.

Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
I'm currently in my TWW for my first IUI at ORM. DR Barbieri discussed that depending on my bodies response to medications we may do 2-3 IUIs. She explained she would tell me after the second one what her plan would be for us and then we would move on to IVF if we haven't gotten a BFP. She put me on 100 mg of Clomid for 5 days this cycle (due to my low follicle count in Arizona earlier this year) she explained that we could get too many mature follicles and have to cancel. She was very straight forward with this information. We ended up with one perfect, one almost big enough and two that might catch up so she explained again that we could trigger then or wait a few days and hope the other catch up and have a better chance. Again straight forward and made sure I was on the same page as her and wanted the same things. We waited a few more days and triggered with an Ovidrel injection. I had my IUI with a nurse yesterday and now we wait!!

This office is very clean, organized, friendly and very helpful! I would say that the only weaknesses are that they are somewhat hard to get ahold of on the telephone BUT they always call back very promptly! You also have to pay attention closely if you e had any testing done at another office. They are very used to people starting their journey with them. I had all of my testing done in another state and even though it was all transferred prior to my first appointment I got one phone call from an outside radiology office stating that Dr B had sent a referral for me to schedule an HSG with them. I called and spoke to a nurse and she apologized and stated I didn't need another one. Had I just trusted that the radiologist office was right I would've paid for another $500 test that was unnecessary. I do believe it was an honest mistake on their part but it is a gentle reminder to be aware of everything you've had done already and always ask questions!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
My IUI totaled from cycle day 1-insemination approx $1,200 (including meds). You pay for each appointment separately at time of service.

I never feel rushed when I have an appointment with Dr. Barbieri and she always answers any questions we have...We started with IUIs. Our diagnosis is "unexplained". We got pregnant after our 3rd IUI but it ended up being ectopic. We had to wait several months after that for the medication to get out of my system/run its course and then we started IUIs again. She even let us do one additional IUI because we asked for it. Unfortunately, it did not work out for us. We have now moved onto IVF.
ORM [Oregon Reproductive Medicine] is great. From the front desk staff to the physicians. They seem to be very organized and are always able to help. What I liked them about them is that I did not have to wait a long time for my initial appt. I originally called a local hospital system that has a infertility clinic. They told me they could not schedule me until half way through the month when the next months schedule came out. They said they would call me. In the mean time, I called ORM and was able to get in within 1-2 weeks. That other clinic NEVER called me back to schedule.

We have spent about $6500 for 8 IUIs (includes, initial consult, testing, meds and procedure). We have spent about $22000 for IVF/ICSI (includes appts/consults, testing and meds). Our insurance only covers items that diagnosis infertility (basically just the testing), does not any cover treatment.

Dr. Barbieri's communication style is succinct, to-the-point, and no sugar coating... However, she is extremely dedicated to her patients (she talked with me about my treatment plan during her maternity leave), cares about their well-being (she told me to slow down from my hectic life), and spends the time to think about the best course of action for her patients.

When I first met Dr Barbieri, it was overwhelming and I didn't feel 100% connected. It's so emotional as a patient to hear you will unlikely get pregnant on your own, but the doctors see this everyday! Over time and as we moved forward with fertility treatments and we spent more time together, I felt less like another case and more like a friend she was helping. I ask a LOT of questions and have a lot of feelings - she was patient and caring with me.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
We did 5 rounds of IUI. #1 was successful (clomid) and ended in a miscarriage at 8 weeks. #2-5 were unsuccessful. We tried femera instead of clomid for one cycle to reduce side effects, but I produced less follicles. For IVF I was on an antagonist (good responder) protocol. It produced 21 eggs, 19 fertilized with ICSI, and 12 made it to day 5/6. We put two in immediately that didn't stick. Tested 10 with CCS and 7 were normals. Did a Natural FET with 2 and became pregnant with twins. At the 6.5 week ultrasound Baby A was healthy, but B had a weak heartbeat. B stopped growing by the next week. Baby A is a year old and 100% healthy.

I believe Dr. Barbieri's strengths included being straight forward and compassionate. Her weaknesses seemed to be dismissiveness of worries regarding abnormal labs or bringing up studies showing something different than the recommendations...IVF was discussed in our first appointment, despite no indication of anything wrong. Scheduling was a nightmare, they often wouldn't offer times/days until the last minute, and I never had a choice about when I could come in...
The [Oregon Repro Med - Port W] clinic itself seems well organized including check in and check out processes. Initial confusion about parking was handled very well. My first appointment there I was disappointed to have the front desk person assume "You must be here as an egg donor." I guess it's because they assumed I was so young I wasn't infertile, causing me embarrassment to have to tell them this. There were also screaming toddlers in the lobby, seemed in poor taste...

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
It would make a big difference if it seemed like the goal was to find the cause of infertility rather than just starting treatment regardless of the cause.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
IVF was discussed in our first appointment, despite no indication of anything wrong. Scheduling was a nightmare, they often wouldn't offer times/days until the last minute, and I never had a choice about when I could come in. I guess they assume no one has a job? I typically had a 50/50 chance if the nursing staff would call back the day I called, which exponentially increases stress since they don't want you to call until day 1 of your cycle to discuss scheduling. I often had to call them myself on issues after waiting days past the time they said they would call me.
Describe the protocols Elizabeth Barbieri used in your cycles at ORM Fertility Oregon and their degree of success.
We were recommended to immediately start clomid + HSG + injection trigger + IUI. The rationale provided was it was because we were "unexplained" and I had trouble finding peak days on ovulation tests.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at ORM Fertility Oregon.
When I would go into the offices they were friendly, good at drawing blood and providing comfort. I often felt dismissed on the phone. I had a very bad experience after being told some labs were abnormal that "they weren't abnormal enough to change anything" despite me finding multiple sources of literature saying otherwise. I was even inaccurately told that maybe the labs were abnormal because I wasn't fasting. Which one, they never told me to fast and two, the lab confirmed with me fasting wouldn't affect the results. It completely lost my trust.
Describe your experience with ORM Fertility Oregon.
The clinic itself seems well organized including check in and check out processes. Initial confusion about parking was handled very well. My first appointment there I was disappointed to have the front desk person assume "You must be here as an egg donor." I guess it's because they assumed I was so young I wasn't infertile, causing me embarrassment to have to tell them this. There were also screaming toddlers in the lobby, seemed in poor taste.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon.
An IUI cycle was quoted around 2k for each one. And IVF in the range of 20K

Describe the specific things that went wrong at ORM Fertility Oregon.
I had to call the clinic multiple times to try and get my blood drawn, only for them not to reply and I eventually found a primary care doctor to do it for me. I had an abnormal imaging test, which per their information sheet would require me to be on extended antibiotics, but when I called the office I was only met with "well we won't know the FULL results for days so we can't discuss it". I had to call the on call physician (which starts at 4:30pm) to request that they please give me the antibiotics they recommended. Their billing department sent a bill demanding to be paid in full within one week, even though I had an EOB from my insurance saying they were going to pay for some of the costs. But they hadn't received the reply from my insurance so they wanted me to front the cost. It took me talking to two people in the billing department before they said I could at least wait a few weeks to see if they would hear back from my insurance.

She [Dr. Elizabeth Barbieri] has a wonderful bedside manner and made me feel like an important patient. I truly felt that she was heartbroken for us when things didn’t work out. She also recommended realistically that we move from IVF to embryo donation and isn’t encourage us to do mor costly treatments when she expected us to get similar results
They [ORM Fertility- Portland] are on the expensive side but have good success rates. I felt that they went above and beyond and are worth the cost. Parking can be difficult. They whole staff was wonderful to work with. Occasionally I wished they would call with test results more quickly.... We did an estrogen primed protocol, I have low ovarian reserve, and only one full ovary so it was to make sure my eggs could grow, as well as due to my age. We would have tested embryos but we never had more then 2 so we just transferred them to save the cost of testing. But she was very aware of and sensitive to all emotions during the process.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Elizabeth Barbieri at ORM Fertility Oregon?
She was very kind and gentle and when I was pregnant the baby was measuring small and she knew there was a possibility of miscarriage and I appreciated that she gently told me so that I wasn’t completely surprised when it happened.

My first cycle including testing was about $18,000. The next was cheaper because we didn’t have to redo testing. So more like $12000

She [Dr. Elizabeth Barbieri] will lay out process and steps clearly, but if you want a very warm, caring Dr, she may not be the best fit. She’s blunt, which at times we appreciated and at other times - during a miscarriage- was not a great fit for us...was pretty good at explaining. Set reasonable expectations (didn’t overpromise) but could sometimes be dismissive of questions we had. At times showed warmth and humor but at other times abrupt.
Tests ordered for my husband [at Oregon Reproductive Medicine] did not go through to the hospital. We had to re-ask. Had to ask multiple times for billing information. A nurse relayed one interpretation of a test result and then we heard a completely different one from the dr. The dr hadn’t seen latest test results before our consultation...Very good front desk staff. On time with appointments. Nice facilities. It’s still early on for us to know much about their lab or iui or IVF. The portal they use is challenging. We had to ask multiple times for things to be put on it and it is clunky.

She is very fact based. She is able to talk about statistics and steps in the process. She is not a Dr. that will help with the emotional support piece. Dr. Barbieri is very nice, but at times seems stoic and clinical. I found that if I had emotional support elsewhere I was very happy with her. She is able to present very complicated procedures in a way that makes sense....She took time when I was with her to get to know me and to explain the process for me.
They [Oregon Repro Med] have great success rates, very state of the art clinic. They are expensive, but in line with other clinics. At times you feel like a number, but the nurses help make it seem more personal....The frozen IVF was about 10k and the fresh was about 17k....I could schedule blood whenever I wanted as long as they could get results the same day, usually before noon....The nurse and nursing staff were very helpful and caring. They were available to talk at length about my protocol.

I could schedule blood whenever I wanted as long as they could get results the same day, usually before noon. The ultrasound appointment was scheduled so far in advance usually a week or two that I had a window of about 4 hours to schedule it durning.

She [Dr. Elizabeth Barbieri] talks very fast and gave us a whole treatment plan, then when it didn't work she threw it out and completely changed the plan without even talking to us, she just had a coordinator tell us. No easy way to contact her, no "what to expect" through the whole process.. we didn't even understand we had started an IUI cycle until we were halfway through...Barely saw doctor, felt very impersonal
Billing department [at ORM Fertility] is difficult. Make sure you double check your forms that they post in the portal - can be lots of inaccuracies. Check in downstairs, then go to your floor except on IUI weekends - then go straight to 3rd floor. Spouse or partner or friend is welcome at your invitation. Front desk is great...Phlebotomy team is incredible, nursing staff is excellent, and NPs are great
