How was your experience with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
Dr. Buyuk is very clear in making sure that the statistical likelihood of any procedure will result in a pregnancy or will help in the fertility process, which I really appreciated. He is positive and encouraging but realistic and I find that to be very comforting and makes me trust his recommendations.

Describe the protocols Erkan Buyuk used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I have done my initial fertility testing, blood work and genetic testing to make sure that everything was in order to do a natural cycle IUI. Based on those results he prescribed me vitamin D (I was deficient) and advised to to choose a sperm donor that was CMV negative as I am CMV negative and that could have negative ramifications should I become pregnant using CMV positive sperm. After my initial results showed that I was ready to go forward with an IUI cycle, I did Day 3 bloodwork at the beginning of my menstrual cycle. When I received baseline results we did an ultrasound on day 12 of my cycle to see if my follicles were mature enough and I received a prescription of Ovidrel to take after my follicles matured enough. As my follicles were growing at the expected rate, I was advised to take my trigger shot of Ovidrel the following night. Then I came in two mornings later for my IUI. The procedure went as planned but unfortunately I did not become pregnant. I started the cycle again when I began menstruating and I am currently days away from my second ultrasound.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
I was told that my insurance covered the IUI process only for the claim to be denied as I had thought it would be prior to being assured that it was covered.
[Dr. Erkan Buyuk] gave us a warm and gentle welcome and explained all the questions with clear statistics...was a rough explanation of the overall process...was a lack of explanation about the specific steps, and there was no mention of the risks or side effects of the drug or procedure
[At RMA of New York] They were nice and quite promptly communicated which is really nice but I felt like I was counting as a number somehow...morning monitoring. I was worried about going to work in the morning but it was fine...was hard to get the whole information in details and sometimes it was hard to know what to expect the next step.
How was your experience with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
He gave us a warm and gentle welcome and explained all the questions with clear statistics, so I felt trustworthy. There was a rough explanation of the overall process, but I felt that there was a lack of explanation about the specific steps, and there was no mention of the risks or side effects of the drug or procedure. The injection or specific schedule was handled by the nurse, so he did not explain, but I think it would have been better if he could explain every steps with more details so that I could draw the whole picture before I initiate the procedure. As a first-time in IVF, it was challenging to know exactly what the next step would be each time and to have limited information on what to expect.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
He is a great doctor. But if you prepare for the information and quality questions about this process prior your appointment, you will get better information.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
I felt that there were not enough opportunities to communicate directly with the doctor. Although I was able to communicated with nurses by e-mail, I always felt that the time was short and the explanation was limited and insufficient.
Describe the protocols Erkan Buyuk used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I was primed with estrogen patch and Cetrotide before I start the cycle which is prolonged protocol I guess. And I got GonalF 300u in the morning, Menopur 150mg in the evening for 9 days, and Cetrotide for 4 days before the trigger shot 2 days prior my retireval day.

Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
The best of this clinic was the morning monitoring. I was worried about going to work in the morning but it was fine. Also communication was alwasy easy and fast.
However, it was hard to get the whole information in details and sometimes it was hard to know what to expect the next step.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York.
I'm still in process of my first cycle, so it's not done yet. But I paid about $10,000 so far include medications for the first retrieval cycle.
Describe Erkan Buyuk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of New York.
He was strongly recommended PGT-A so he said he will do only eSET. Because there is no better rational for multiple embryo tranfer and it will rise the risk in case of twins.
Dr. Buyuk is very objective and this help set reasonable expectations for me...With my first cycle I ovulated early and while this was devastating for me he changed my protocol and I never had this problem again. I honestly think other clinics wouldn’t have taken me on as a patient due to my diminished ovarian reserve but I’m forever grateful Dr. Buyuk accepted the challenge...He has reached out to me during critical parts of my treatment to review next steps which meant a lot to me...
RMA is a very organized clinic. They have a very high volume which makes me feel comfortable with their expertise. They also have multiple offices for monitoring which was helpful since I work at offices through the city. The early morning hours were perfect and did not interfere with my job. A drawback is that you see different doctors for your monitoring but they all really good to it’s nice to meet all the doctors...
How was your experience with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
Dr. Buyuk is very objective and this help set reasonable expectations for me. I do prefer matter of fact recommendations so I think this is why Dr. Buyuk was a good fit for me. I honestly think other clinics wouldn’t have taken me on as a patient due to my diminished ovarian reserve but I’m forever grateful Dr. Buyuk accepted the challenge.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
My first impression was that he came off as pretty serious. I wasn’t sure if he would be a good fit for me because I thought I wanted a doctor to sugar coat my results and be extra bubbly. Now that I’ve worked with him for over a year I’ve seen that he actually is still serious in helping me achieve my goals but also very kind and compassionate. He’s actually a lovely person!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
Dr. Buyuk has always been very kind to me. He has reached out to me during critical parts of my treatment to review next steps which meant a lot to me. There were several times during my treatment where I was discouraged about my results but he was very confident that he could help me with my family planning goals despite the seriousness of my low AMH. I now I have many normal embryos ready for transfer thanks to Dr.Buyuk’s expertise and patience.

Everyone is assigned a time to come in during monitoring hours. What’s nice is that they will see you early or later depending on when you show up. The whole process is pretty efficient. The doctor assigned to do monitoring will do your scans which may not be your doctor. They are all really nice and walk you through what they find on the ultrasound. Very good experience.

My insurance only paid for one cycle. Medications were about 5k per cycle and the egg retrieval was about 15k per cycle

Great doctor with excellent bedside manner. He is very well skilled inverse in fertility especially with patients of advanced maternal age. I felt listen to and well taken care of during my procedures and all pre meetings.
There was a time when I had a question about a medication and the nurse was out for the day so I sent him an email and he responded that he would take care of it. As opposed to pushing me off to the next day when the nurse was in. I really appreciate that.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
Trust the process and ask lots of questions even the ones that seem trivial.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York?
The doctor provided clear information about each procedure and our options. When we initially met he was interested in learning about me and my husband and made us feel very comfortable. During all of my monitoring sessions I was able to see him which is very different from the previous doctor that I had who was a partner. During the day of my transfer Dr. B was very informative very calm and the staff made me feel very comfortable.
Describe the protocols Erkan Buyuk used in your cycles at RMA of New York and their degree of success.
I did not do any of the stimulation medication’s with Dr. B. He took over my car after my previous doctor retired and he let me through my transfer.

I have known Dr. Buyuk for about a year on and off. Today I had a procedure with Anesthesia. I was very very scared as I had a bad experience many years ago Where in I awoke mid-surgery and felt everything with a different Doctor for different medical issues. He held my hand and treated me like family until I fell asleep. Since the day we met he has been very verbal and patient with all of my questions, even when repeating them.
Dr Buyuk is the strength. The nurses [Montefiore Medical Center] have been good. They should reestablish the ivf classes. That part can be complicated. Maybe sell a dvd class. I have nothing much else to say so i will just say that I am in aww of the professionalism and kindness of my Doctor.... I trust him with my life and hopefully with helping me to conceive my first child at 39.... Hes the best I could have ever imagined and I used to work in obgyn.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Erkan Buyuk at Montefiore Medical Center.
From the start of my journey Dr. Buyuk was very informative and caring. He truly cares about his patients and makes them feel very comfortable. He respones to emails very quickly.... I had a dye test done to make sure my ovaries weren't blocked. My husbands sperm count was checked. I don't remember how much injections I had. The first cycle I did in 2013 was a successful pregnancy, the second cycle in 2017 I had to stop because of polyps, 3rd cycle in june of 2017 ended up negative.
All of the staff [at Montefiore] are very nice and after awhile of going they all began to know me by name. One of the secretaries always wished me good luck. The billing department goes over what your insurance does and doesn't cover. The one thing I don't like is that if you're not caught up on your bill they will not let you finish your cycle. We're stressed enough you'd think they'd let you finish and than worry about payments.

Very caring and understanding to your needs as a patient , he's [Dr. Buyuk] also very detailed in explaining whatever issues you have to you.
My care team [at Montefiore] got to know me on an individual basis and they were all concerned about my case and the outcome. They always assured me each time I went to keep my hopes up high because I would definitely achieve a pregnancy sooner than I expect.

[Dr. Erkan Buyuk] was very matter of fact about everything...he shared all the information as through it was a memorized speech...wasn't warm or particularly inviting but he was professional and confident...Don't expect much bedside manner but you'll get great care

The doctor was very matter of fact about everything. I understand the office sees so many patients and everything is routine for the staff. But some of the other doctors I saw were more lively and asked more questions/provided more information. However I had no concerns about my safety or his qualifications and I felt like I could trust him. There was also an issue with my data not being properly input into the system and if I hadn't advocated for myself, things could have gone differently. Also one of my medications wasn't shipped and I didn't realize. But overall, I'd still highly recommend rma.

If just got updates with the amount of meds to take. Though the doctors always let me see the screen for the sonogram so I could see the measurements they were taking. Though I didn't know the size they were aiming for.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of New York. (Assigned nurse: Allie)
Overall, the nurses were great. They shared a lot of information and were always helpful and supportive when I had questions. I do feel like I could have been better prepared for the immediate before and after of the procedure.
But I did have a problem with not being sent one medication. And my data was input incorrectly on the day I was supposed to take my trigger. They initially told me not trigger on that day but I explained all the data I had from my doctors and appointments. When they eventually went back to look at my chart, they found the mistake and confirmed I should trigger that night.
Describe your experience with RMA of New York.
The waiting room area could be a little warmer and welcoming. Maybe some light music in the background since sometimes the wait was long. But overall, it seemed like a very well oiled machine. They have so many patients that a lot of it is routine for them. The regular email updates about appointments and meds were very helpful.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Erkan Buyuk at RMA of New York.
$3450 for the procedure and preservation.
$950 for out of network anesthesiologist.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of New York.
One trigger medication wasn't called in. And a critical data point needed for indicating that I needed to trigger that day was not input into the system correctly. I called out what I thought was a mistake in their directions to keep taking the regular meds and later they called to confirm I was right and I needed to in fact trigger that night and not take more of the previous meds.
