How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr Stoelk explained the process in details and we were always clear on what to expect and what is coming next. He was gentle in nature and we were able to develop trust with him fairly quickly. A fertility treatment is a 1-3 year relationship between doctor and patient, establishing this trust earl on was crucial.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Ensure all your questions are answered before leaving the clinic or ending a phone consultation. Dr Stoelk was always helpful explaining me the details, even when on one occasion the initial 30 minute call ended up being more like 55 minutes.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Both Dr Stoelk and Melodi (his chief of staff) were very compassionate and took the time to explain details during the process as we were progressing.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Initial consultation over the phone followed by an analysis for both husband and wife.
Husband was diagnosed with lower than average sperm count, wife was diagnosed with endometriosis and one side of the fallopian tube blocked.
Initial assessment and strategy was to surgically remove the blocked fallopian tube and treat the endometriosis, then continue to try for 12 months with natural conceptions. The male factor lower sperm count was marginally lower, whereby we hoped that a natural conception could occur, perhaps just taking a bit longer vs. with a normal count.
To assess which one needed to be removed, ultrasound and ink painting was used.
Prior to the laparoscopic surgery to remove one of the fallopian tube, we discussed the possibility if the other one appears to be bad, do we give consent to be removed as well.
During the surgery it was discovered that both fallopian tubes were damaged beyond repair, multiple attempts of ink painting was performed during operation to assess if the other side could pass through anything, it was completely blocked and since we gave consent, both fallopian tubes were removed during this procedure.
If we didn't give consent for this, we would have ended up having my wife back for a second surgery to have it removed, doubling up the cost.
A DVD video recording of the surgery and the attempts to assess the other side and pass ink multiple times were shared with me. I watched it and was able to conclude that I would have come to the same conclusion as Dr Stoelk and a second assisting doctor concluded prior to deciding to remove the second fallopian tube.
Following the surgery and in light of the above, we had to proceed with IVF.
3/22/21 - continue birth control pills for supression
3/27 - start injections for fertility medicine (follistim, menopur, ganirelix)
3/29 - blood draw
4/3 - ultrasound
4/5 ultrasound
4/8 egg retrieval
4/13 - Genetic testing completed, results available
4 embryos were sent for genetic testing (PGT)
Two bad one, two no result (yes, it can happen that there is no result after spending all that money on it)
Two bad one was signed and consented to be discarded.
8/3/21 - frozen embryo transfer (one only)
Since there were no results from the PGT, Dr Stoelk picked the one which looked to have a better chance and higher embryo quality based on visuals.
4/15/22 - C-section birth of our son
11/29/22 - frozen embryo transfer (second and last remaining embryo)
12/9/22 - blood draw, confirmed pregnancy
12/29/22 - ultrasound, confirmed pregnancy, expected due date 8/17/2023
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northwest Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Melodi)
Primary nurse / coordinator Melodi was fantastic and in every way perfect to work with. She handled insurance related matters, including billing issues, resubmissions for processing...etc. She also handled getting questions answered to us in a timely manner and bringing it to Dr Stoelk's attention for faster response. In addition she helped with scheduling or call back as it was requested / needed.
Besides Melodi, there were other office staff at the beginning of our treatment who were rude and I was not comfortable dealing with them. It seems they have left or got fired by now as I no longer see them there.
The current lady at the front desk, Rebeca is very nice and easy to work with, so 5 star to Melodi and Rebeca.
Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
Small local clinic. Dr Stoelk has made his money already and he is getting close to retiring in a few years. He keeps overall cost down, runs an efficient operation with lower overhead cost to burden the patients and is passionate about seeing people succeed.
He very much appreciated when we visited him with our son, who was the result of his help. It was rare that people brought their babies to his clinic once covid restrictions were in place.
He genuinely wants to help families...what more could a patient, like us, ask for ?
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
$20,00 package price for IVF cycle, including $3000 for medicine and a fresh embryo transfer.
Additional cost were:
~$1,500 PGT testing
$440 / ultrasound & consultation appointment after transfer (goes against normal health insurance with deductible applied)
$50 / after transfer progesterone bottle (last 12 calendar days with 4/day use, 50 pieces in a bottle)
$750 annual frozen embryo storage after first year (first 12 month storage was included in the $20k package price)
We did not exceed the medicine cost limit, which was estimated in the package
$2,200 for embryo thaw and transfer and ultrasound (minus we got some discount for the initial cost baked in the package for a live transfer, can't remember the amount)
Describe Eugene Stoelk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northwest Fertility Center.
We discussed the options to transfer one vs. two embryos (we had two viable ones in total) and decided to have just one transferred, as we already had twins from natural conception. At the end, we decided to have all four children, but initially we were not signed up for the idea to have a potential twins again.
We have decided to just transfer one embryo first.
[Dr. Stoelk] was willing to do whatever I wanted as far as number of embryos to transfer. He advised strongly to transfer 1 but was open to whatever I felt comfortable with...He never had a nurse with him during visits, so if your partner isn’t with you be prepared for that. I felt that as a doctor he follows older practices that he is comfortable with without a lot of wiggle room
The [Northwest Fertility Center] clinical nurse gave me her personal number and has always been there to answer any and all questions. She is extremely kind and compassionate and supportive...we retrieved 11 eggs which was discouraging as I had hoped for more. 9 were mature and 8 fertilized. All 8 made it to blasts...$350 consult fee $500 preliminary labs and scan $18,000 Ivf treatment and medications $175
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
When I first saw Dr Stoelk I got the feeling that he just wanted money and to be in complete control. I felt he knew how to navigate the situation to his desired outcome. I chose to come back to his office because I read a number of reviews praising him and his success rates. I wanted success. I always felt he expected me to have my questions prepared or he wouldn’t address them. I never got pictures from ultrasounds or appointments except my transfer photo of my embryo. I felt disconnected from him as a doctor. He never had a nurse with him during visits, so if your partner isn’t with you be prepared for that. I felt that as a doctor he follows older practices that he is comfortable with without a lot of wiggle room. My entire treatment felt very generic and my appointments sparse in contrast to other woman’s experiences. During my FET I was only seen 1 time before the transfer and it felt like my transfer was later in my cycle than others as well. During my miscarriage I have felt a lack of compassion and been directed to call with my next period to set up another cycle without reviewing what could have gone wrong or running any additional testing.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Try to run your own ship. You need him to help you along the way, but if you want your desired outcome you need to be strong and vocal and ask the questions. Many infertile woman lean on faith, but we also expect our doctors to do right by us faith aside. He is a faith based clinic and I fear that at times can remove the push to be attentive because it’s easy for the doctor to say “it’s in God’s hands not mine”.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
I felt there was always a line. During my egg retrieval it felt like herding cattle. There was also more and more charges that weren’t addressed when I inquired about total costs. We never reviewed my personal case and possible changes. I was told to call on my next period after my MC and never discussed the reasons why I lost a PGS embryo. I felt like a paycheck more than a human. He never remembered who I was or my case so he reviewed my chart with me each visit and repeated the same general information. There was no personal or emotional connection to me or my story.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We used menopure, gonal-F and ganarelix. I was given a predicted amount of meds prior to cycle and when I ran out Dr advised me to just use what was left and it should be fine. He never reviewed with my what protocol or why but I trusted his judgment and success based on others reviews. I gave him full control. I was very disappointed to only show 6 follicles before triggering but he said my left ovary didn’t cooperate. In the end we retrieved 11 eggs which was discouraging as I had hoped for more. 9 were mature and 8 fertilized. All 8 made it to blasts which shocked the doctor as he had advised me on day 1 that not all fertilized eggs would become embryos. We elected to pgs test to reduce the risk of miscarriage. Only 2 were normal. My FET of pgs normal embryo ended in a loss.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northwest Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Tina )
The front office staff isn’t very social or friendly. It’s a small office so there aren’t many nurses. 1 front office, 1 lab tech, 1 clinical nurse. They all share responsibility but also have their positions. The clinical nurse gave me her personal number and has always been there to answer any and all questions. She is extremely kind and compassionate and supportive. I don’t know how I would have gotten through this experience without her support.
Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
The clinic is very small. There is only 2 patient rooms which can result in a long wait. The room where retrieval’s and transfers are done is small and not sterile. It is not an operating room like in many clinics. It is a very quaint clinic but definitely different than I anticipated after seeing others experiences. There is no gowns or hair nets. It’s drop your pants and get into position. Because of limited rooms sometimes the wait can be extended.

Doc was willing to do whatever I wanted as far as number of embryos to transfer. He advised strongly to transfer 1 but was open to whatever I felt comfortable with. We decided 1 just in case something went wrong which it did.
What specific things went wrong at Northwest Fertility Center?
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Northwest Fertility Center.
I was billed incorrectly but when I noticed the issue and called the financial assistant immediately rectified the situation and I was happy after that.
We went to him [Dr. Stoelk] after trying for 3 years with no success and trying with a different RE for several cycles. He did a full exam and an ultrasound and also did a post-coital exam where he found that sperm weren’t surviving in my CM. He suggested we go to IUI and so the next day we were in there getting an IUI. It was unsuccessful so we are going again this time with 50mg of Clomid...sees you every time you’re in and also will call you to talk about next steps after a failed cycle. I like how he is so reachable, sensitive to the process and understanding of the importance of direct communication.

I like how he is so reachable, sensitive to the process and understanding of the importance of direct communication...they [nurses] have always been very warm and welcoming...1st consultation - $300 including physical exam Ultrasound - $250 IUI - $480... I like that it’s small and personal. And affordable compared to every where else!
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
He doesn’t over-test, so to speak. He just does testing that seems necessary. He’s honest while still being sensitive, and he also works very quickly, so it feels like he’s on it and not dragging his feet for any reason. We’ve only been a patient for a short while, but it’s been a good experience thus far.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Ask plenty of questions along the way, he is great about answering any question you throw at him, sometimes he can’t give you a firm answer or the answer you want, but he’ll never just say “I don’t know”.

There’s nothing negative to say. Some people mention that it’s not the fanciest place, which it isn’t, but that doesn’t matter to me. I like that it’s small and personal. And affordable compared to every where else!
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
I was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago and have struggled with it a lot. My spouse is sterile. So it was impossible for us to fall pregnant. When I met Dr Stoelk he evaluated my condition with the help of blood tests and ultrasounds to suggest the best treatment. We eventually decided to start with iui since we cannot afford ivf. He stated up front that we would need donor sperm and where to get them from. He told us the success rate is very low and sure enough it failed. I was sad but knew the likelihood before hand since he had prepared us already so bounced right back. We used clomid in the next cycle and it failed again. I was devastated but knew the success rate was low
The clinic [Northwest Fertility Center- Portland] is small and focuses on personalized care. Since they are located in Portland the property prices are high. The clinic however is small and that’s how they keep their overhead low. The same gets passed on to the patients without compromising on the quality of care. The reception area is big enough and quiet. Confidentiality is of utmost importance and that’s why they have a glass sliding window separating the reception staff from the patients waiting in the room.
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr Stoelk has immense patience which is what I like about him. He is a good listener and you feel like you have a say in your treatment. He lets you voice your opinion and at the same time still provides his expertise and suggest the best course of action. He does not over promises and under delivers. He is very realistic about outcomes and prepares you well in advance. He is compassionate and caring. He is very accommodating with schedules without jeapordising treatment plans.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Just listen to him and trust his expertise. He has done this for a long time and has himself struggled with infertility. His insight and advise is very valuable since he has been in your shoes
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr Stoelk has great bed side manner. He is very thorough, gentle and very patient. He listens and advises the best possible treatment. I never felt rushed or coerced into doing something that I didnt want to do. He has an exceptional team who cares and provides all the time you need to take to plan your next steps. Plus he is not there to rip you off either. It’s a small clinic with family like environment

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful. That’s the best way to describe them. They were friendly nice compassionate helpful understanding and super good doing what they did. He is himself hands on with his approach so if there was a new nursing staff who wasn’t sure of the protocol he would step in to train and guide them

Dr. Stoelk is very personable and calls us himself to talk through all sorts of issues. He’s certainly more readily available than every other western physician I’ve had...very compassionate and gentle...Ask a lot of questions. Don’t leave unless you feel confident in your comprehension of your appointment and next steps...I have had more interactions with Dr. Stoelk than I have his nursing staff...
The staff [at Northwest Fertility Center] is very kind and accessible. I wish there were a patient portal in which we could regularly upload documents and communicate securely and without needing to call or email...some discrepancies between quoted costs and actual costs...given how penny pinching we need to be to make this work, I do wish some of the estimates were more accurate...IUI was $500. IVF is currently quotes at $18,500 for his clinical work
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
I think Dr. Stoelk is a solid human being who listens well to us. I do think sometimes he over or underestimates our understanding of this process. We’re just starting IVF with him after a failed IUI. The IUI felt very rushed and I had little time to process what was happening between doing a post-coital, finding out my fluid may be killing sperm, and discovering a uterine polyp...and then being told we could do IUI that day. But I think that’s the nature of the beast. He’s very compassionate and gentle and we’re fans so far.

We’re just beginning IVF so we haven’t get started all the meds. But we did have IUI, which failed, and then I’ve just had more corrective surgery.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
I have had more interactions with Dr. Stoelk than I have his nursing staff, so far, so I can’t quite speak to lots of interactions with them yet.
Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
The clinic is quaint. There’s a small waiting room, and for someone who is super private about my journey, that intimidated me at first.
The staff is very kind and accessible.
I wish there were a patient portal in which we could regularly upload documents and communicate securely and without needing to call or email. There were also some discrepancies between quoted costs and actual costs but not by too much that it was painful. But given how penny pinching we need to be to make this work, I do wish some of the estimates were more accurate.
I definitely feel like a person and not a number here. Hopeful this is “the place” and I’ll get my rainbow baby after struggling for so, so long.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
IUI was $500.
IVF is currently quotes at $18,500 for his clinical work. Genetic testing is $1,950 for an outside clinic to test up to (I believe) eight embryos and then it’s $250 per embryo after that. Shipping to and from the clinic is a cool $350.
All in all, we’re well into the cost of a nice sedan or small suv.
Describe Eugene Stoelk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northwest Fertility Center.
I’m relieved that this clinic does eSET. I want a child more than I could ever express after five years of losses and surgeries. But I don’t want quadruplets. So I’m glad there’s little risk of that.
Dr. Stoelk can seem quiet and shy and first, but after our first visit we got to see just how kind, caring, gentle, compassionate, and invested he is as a doctor. He saw me for every visit so I was able to ask any and all questions I had during every step of the process. I appreciated that he sees you for every visit and that I didn't have a different tech/nurse every time. ... No hidden fees or unnecessary testing. ... Each additional transfer, after the first, is $1950. That includes the medication and the transfer. ... Strenghts: Smaller clinic [Nowrthwest Fertility Center], one doctor (so you always seem him), offer credits for left over medication, small staff (so you get to know everyone and they get to know you), never a long wait because they schedule their time efficiently, and Dr. Stoelk personally calls me back with every test result or check up. He's always available when you need him. Weaknesses: Office could look a little more modern, but I really prefer a warmer and thorough experience over having a flashy office.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Just make sure you do your research. The office is not as "fancy" as the larger clinics around, but the cost is also a lot less. He doesn't have you do a ton of extra, unnecessary, tests to get your money. He's very open and honest, and answers questions well, so you know what to expect. He also does a free 15 minute meeting before you go and pay for a consultation which I loved. The larger clinic i looked into wouldn't let me do that.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
I specifically went to NWFC because Dr. Stoelk is the sole provider. He saw me for every ultrasound and every visit. He knew my history and very well and always knew what was going on because he saw me for every visit, not a tech.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I'm not really sure what to include here, but I can tell you what he prescribed and procedures he did. I did my IVF shots and was given very thorough instructions on the dosage and use. We held off on my first fresh transfer because he was concerned with bleeding after my egg retrieval and THANK GOD we did because we would've wasted 2 embryos. He advises based on your individual needs and not on trying to get more money/cycles out of you. I also received a credit for the medicine that i had leftover from my IVF cycle. I thought that was awesome.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
Tina is awesome! We've had her help us out a few times: during a hospital stay, with blood draws, injection directions and instruction. Chloe is usually at the front desk and is kind, but doesn't smile too much or show her personality much. I don't think it's for a lack of caring though, i think she's just a quieter personality. Overall, everyone has been kind so far. I rarely see any more than those two in the office. I LOVE having familiar faces during this hard journey.

For all medications, ultrasounds, egg retriveal (with sedation), and embryo transfer the total was around $13,000. No hidden fees or unnecessary testing. That also includes storage of embryos for a year. Each additional transfer, after the first, is $1950. That includes the medication and the transfer.
Describe Eugene Stoelk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northwest Fertility Center.
He went over all the pros/cons to doing 1 vs 2 embryo transfers. He also gave us all the statistics. He doesn't like to do more than 2 at a time, but I think that's really good. It doesn't waste embryos, in case the transfer doesn't work, and it also leaves you with more attempts down the road.
Dr Stoelk has been great to work with. He tries very hard to work with my difficult schedule to get me in. I had an hsg done and he had a full schedule that day but worked me in inbetween cases he had that day. Also he did surgery for my endometriosis and he tapes the procedure and as he talked through it it was very personable made me feel like I was a person and not a case.... Started with sperm analysis since it is least invasive. Then an ultrasound at ovulation to check the follicles and uterus along with a postcoital test to make sure the sperm could survive in the mucous.

He always calls me by my name even in my surgery I had for endometriosis on the video he called by my name and referenced my line of Work making me feel like he knew who I was. He works hard to get me in for appointments even if that means staying late.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Started with sperm analysis since it is least invasive. Then an ultrasound at ovulation to check the follicles and uterus along with a postcoital test to make sure the sperm could survive in the mucous. We then moved on to an hsg to make sure my tubes were open along with some labs. All of these were normal so he believed maybe I had endometriosis from some of my symptoms so I then had laparoscopic surgery that did diagnose me with endometriosis, which he lasers off in the surgery. He then wanted us to try for a few more months with the endometriosis gone. We were unsuccessful so have moved onto iui.

He [Dr. Stoelk] always called me back that day or within 24 hours when I had a question, even when I said it wans't an emergency and he could when it was convenient. He called on a weekend to check in on me after surgery to see how I was doing.... We started with tests to rule out the issues that could be discovered through blood work, ultrasounds were done, evaluating for endometriosis which he thought was a pretty huge indicator due to our conversation and was amazed at his accuracy in that!
They [Northwest Fertility Ctr] are a personable clinic in that you are dealing with the same people most of the time. They already know you because it is a small clinic. They are cheering for you and bummed with you when it doesn't work out. They are a great team. They open at 7 which we loved so I could get in for blood work and get back in time for work. They preferred I used their clinic and felt more comfortable with that though it was inconvenient being from out of town.

He always called me back that day or within 24 hours when I had a question, even when I said it wans't an emergency and he could when it was convenient. He called on a weekend to check in on me after surgery to see how I was doing. He was incredible to work with at one of the most difficult processes on a fertility journey you could be at the beginning. Always encouraging, honest but optimistic and real at the same time.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
If you could time your consult around your cycle it worked so beautifully for us in that way and he ran with it taking care of tests that needed to be done all right after the intake meeting. It was awesome! They are also incredible at helping you understand insurance for the areas it applies to! Such a great doctor leading this small team!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
He knew his stuff, we chatted about my history. Answered all our questions, ones we didn't even realize we had. Was flexible to work with us and explain as we needed, sometime going back over things to help us understand all that was going on. He cared about all aspects of what was happening. Direct in his conversation but very positive and understanding with the realities that were presented that we had not even anticipated being our issue.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We started with tests to rule out the issues that could be discovered through blood work, ultrasounds were done, evaluating for endometriosis which he thought was a pretty huge indicator due to our conversation and was amazed at his accuracy in that! checked pathways and that all the aspects needed to function were working/flowing properly like the tube dye test, ovaries looked good, removal of a cyst and polyp. Clearing the lining of my uterine wall then giving ample time for all of that to hear for about 6 month before we started treatment of Bravelle, progesterone vaginal capsules, estradiol, progesterone injections, routine blood work to check levels through the cycles
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
They were great, knowledgeable but not afraid to ask questions if they didn't know or weren't sure. Very personable too. I always felt comfortable and well taken care of.
Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
They are a personable clinic in that you are dealing with the same people most of the time.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
It's been a while but what I can remember it is approximately 3,000 to 5,000 depending on the services being done for each cycle.
Describe Eugene Stoelk's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northwest Fertility Center.
We were of similar mind with our desire for a multiple embryo transfer knowing the risks and probability numbers.
Dr. Stoelk did recommend transferring both embryos produced during my IVF cycle. They were 5 day blastocysts each graded BAA ... Specifically, in the case of endometriosis he has personal experience and provides a reassuring bed-side manner at each appointment. ... He was intent on hearing both my husband and I and details concerning our experience with infertility over a 2.5 year period.
This clinic [Northwest Fertility Centeer] provides an intimate environment, highly focused on patient care, confidentiality and effectiveness. We even had the option to do acupuncture pre and post transfer - though it is a no frills clinic they are the best in providing targeted care and support for fertility treatment. Out of the 5 different fertility centers we visited and doctors we met this clinic had the most human-centric experience.

Dr. Stoelk has an uncanny ability to tap into an infertility story and intuit best next steps. Specifically, in the case of endometriosis he has personal experience and provides a reassuring bed-side manner at each appointment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Be clear on your intentions and remember that even the best doctors only have a specific set of tools to assist you with. If you need laparoscopic surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Stoelk. If you decide to pursue fertility treatment, remember you are a powerful part of this process and self care, optimal nutrition, and mindfulness go a long way in allowing you to connect with your doctor to facilitate the results you want.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
From the very first consulatation we could tell Dr. Stoelk was unlike other practitioners. He was intent on hearing both my husband and I and details concerning our experience with infertility over a 2.5 year period. Over the course of surgery and subsequent treatment the Dr. personally took calls and was patient in thoroughly answering questions and allaying my concerns.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I was on Gonal-F and menopur for the follicle producing phase. A third injectable drug was given to ensure ovulation did not occur prematurely during the last few days prior to the trigger shot. Post retrieval and transfer I was on progesterone suppositories- this was completed 12 days post transfer once I had a positive pregnancy result via blood test and my progesterone levels looked to be ramping up on their own.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
There were 2-3 staff members we worked with regularly. They each knew us personally and were easy to reach, very clear and speedy in their communication. Amazing individuals, very professional during the most difficult appointments.

A single IVF cycle was around $12,000. The laparoscopic surgery I required prior was covered by insurance.

He [Dr. Eugene Stoelk] made us both feel like we were important and that he cared about our success to be parents. He had great bed side manner and went over the process thoroughly so my husband and I both understood and didn't have any questions.... We did several tests and we have unexplained infertility, which is terrible because it's hard to put a plan in place when you don't know what is wrong. After each test came back normal we tried the IUIs. After those were unsuccessful we discussed IVF and told Dr. Stoelk's we'd have to figure out how to pay for it.
I thought their [Northwest Fertility Center's] strength was the one on one time you got with the staff. They were incredibly helpful and communicated well and frequently. I didn't see any weaknesses. If anything I would say go to a few consults even though they're expensive so you can make sure you have the right doctor without a doubt so when you're looking at IVF you don't have to think about going to another doctor when you're already into the process.

Have your questions ready, he'll answer all of them for you. The consult was great because it gave me an hour to ask everything I wanted to ask and he was very detailed in his answers to make sure we didn't leave there not knowing something.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
I was very nervous to go to the fertility clinic. I didn't know what to expect. The staff and Dr. Stoelk were all very nice. They explained everything to me in detail, worked around my work schedule to fit me and my husband in so we could miss work as little as possible. When The IUIs didn't work I called and left a message for an IVF quote with the front desk. The doctor called me and walked me through everything over the phone. I feel like we received excellent care there even though it didn't result in a baby with the IUI. We're going to try IVF now.

I think it was 300 or 400 for the consult. The IUIs I believer were 500
Dr. Stoelk was honest with us about our chances and really felt that we'd have a better chance if she underwent a laparoscopy to clear up endometriosis.... His specialty seems to be endometriosis treatment. My wife underwent laparoscopy to clear this up but this did not improve her fertility or her menstrual pain, both of which should have been improved following this procedure. However, he was very professional in performing this and communicated well with both of us throughout the process
Small clinic [Northwest Fertility Center] in a somewhat older building in the Riverview South Waterfront district. I'd describe the clinic as somewhat cramped with narrow hallways and tiny rooms, including a very small waiting area that can sit maybe 3 couples.... The nurses were pretty fair with us and we appreciated how well and regularly they communicated with Dr. Stoelk and us at the same time. This got everyone on the same page so that we did not hear different things from the doctor and the nursing staff.

After laparoscopy to clear up endometriosis, she underwent a cycle of Gonal-F injections with an Oveidrell trigger shot. I had a sperm analysis done that showed that my sperm have normal abundance. After regular intercourse (no intrauterine injection of sperm) this did not result in a pregnancy.

He took time to sit down with us and share a bit of his story of infertility with his wife, while also thoughtfully listening to our story. When we did the post-coital test, he even let my husband and I view the sperm through the microscope! Such a weird experience, but thankful that he made it somewhat fun for us and included us in viewing the results of the procedure.
The clinic [Northwest Facility Center] is inviting and warm. It's not very big and is located in a building with other businesses. The building was quiet and clean. Parking was limited, but we never had any issues finding a spot... During our consultation, he spontaneously did a pelvic exam. I appreciated him doing it during that appointment and not making us schedule another appointment and come back for that. We also did an ultrasound to make sure I was ovulating and a post-coital test to make sure that the sperm was moving efficiently. We did a Progesterone test to ensure that I ovulated and he scheduled an HSG to make sure my tubes were clear and open.
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
I felt like Dr. Stoelk listened and evaluated our situation individually. I appreciated his confidence when he spoke. My husband and I both liked that he was very efficient in helping us eliminate what might or might not be wrong and find a fix for our infertility.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
Costs included Dr. visits, medications, and procedures.
on at least two occasions I came away from our sessions [with Dr. Eugene Stoelk] not fully informed of what to expect, which led to some disappointing outcomes, and eroded my trust in him. My first month of treatment we were testing my progesterone levels, and I thought we should not be trying to get pregnant during that testing month. However, the Dr. left a voicemail after the test came back with good numbers that he hoped we would see a positive pregnancy test that month...Dr. Stoelk seems unable or unwilling to say the words "sex" or "intercourse." When we talked about the timing of intercourse with my husband for the month he would say I should "be with" or "get with" my husband...This is a medical doctor who is dealing with women's reproductive organs all day long - he should be able to talk about the act that leads to pregnancy in plain language.
She [nurse at Northwest Fertility Center] did not do a good job of fully informing me how to handle the trigger shots, and I ended up panicking that I had done them wrong. When I explained what happened and said I would have liked more clear instructions, she did not do a good job of accepting responsibility or showing any ownership, compassion, or apology. The same thing happened when I did not get clear communication about when to take the pregnancy test, and I ended up with a false positive. Also, none of the nurses washed their hands or wore gloves when taking blood draws, which was concerning to me.
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr. Stoelk was friendly and knowledgable, and I don't doubt his ability to determine a proper course of treatment. However, on at least two occasions I came away from our sessions not fully informed of what to expect, which led to some disappointing outcomes, and eroded my trust in him. My first month of treatment we were testing my progesterone levels, and I thought we should not be trying to get pregnant during that testing month. However, the Dr. left a voicemail after the test came back with good numbers that he hoped we would see a positive pregnancy test that month. It seems like a small thing, but that was month of trying to get pregnant that we missed for no reason. The next month we used gonadotropin shots and a trigger shot to try to produce more viable eggs. He never told me that I should not test early because there would likely be a false positive. I ended up testing a couple days early and thought I was pregnant, and was then told that it was just the residual hormones from the trigger shot. I was very angry and upset that no one had communicated this to me. Also, Dr. Stoelk seems unable or unwilling to say the words "sex" or "intercourse." When we talked about the timing of intercourse with my husband for the month he would say I should "be with" or "get with" my husband. It was very awkward and strange - it made me feel like I was seeing a Dr. from the 1950's. This is a medical doctor who is dealing with women's reproductive organs all day long - he should be able to talk about the act that leads to pregnancy in plain language.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Don't go - not enough clarity or directness of communication, which leads to confusion, misunderstanding, disappointment, and lack of trust.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr. Stoelk's office is small and you see the same people on each visit. Dr. Stoelk does all the examinations and treatments himself.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Stoelk put me on gonadotropin shots to induce the growth of multiple eggs, monitored by regular ultrasounds, and finished with a trigger shot to trigger ovulation. He said it would not be useful to start with Clomid since I was already ovulating regularly. My issue was low AMH and high FSH, so I needed help jump-starting healthy egg production. We also did not do IUI since I had gotten pregnant from intercourse twice before. I did one cycle of shots with a trigger shot but did not get pregnant.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northwest Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Chloe)
There was a new nurse named Chloe that handled most of my intakes, blood draws, and medication distribution. She did not do a good job of fully informing me how to handle the trigger shots, and I ended up panicking that I had done them wrong. When I explained what happened and said I would have liked more clear instructions, she did not do a good job of accepting responsibility or showing any ownership, compassion, or apology. Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
Strengths: Small clinic, intimate setting, direct access to the doctor, easy to make appointments.
Weaknesses: Archaic record keeping systems, poor/incomplete communication, felt like seeing a Dr. in the 1950s.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
I spent approximately $1750 - it would have been much more, but I had a friend who gave me her unused medications.

He [Dr. Stoelk] has a very calming demeanor. He is open to your requests - you want acupuncture, they'll make it happen even though he doesn't think it has any effect. He was always willing to take the time to answer our questions. He also gave us space after receiving bad news and then following up later at a better time. I never felt pressured into any procedure and he clearly explained how it all worked...
You get to know everyone [at Northwest Fertility Center] and see the same people every time. The doctor and staff are great. I wish I had better results but I do not think it was anything the doctor and staff did or did not do. They were all great and answered all of my questions. They were helpful suggesting future options. I wish we had done more testing though not sure if it would have helped with our situation...

After the first round, I wish Dr. Stoelk suggested more testing and took more time to investigate what went wrong instead of modifying the protocol a little and moving forward. You really need to do your research and make sure you are your own advocate instead of assuming the doctor knows best. I do think he did what he thought would work. Granted the 2nd round of IVF was better than the 1st.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Read up and ask for procedures and testing. He often won't suggest some of them because he doesn't feel that there is enough evidence to support a method or the testing won't tell you anything important. Very understandable. Yet if you read something and want to try it such as a uterine scratch. Tell him. He'll do it but you need to suggest it. Ask questions, be your own advocate.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
It is a small staff, so you got to know everyone. The staff knew my name and where I was on my cycles. I'd walk in the door, and they'd check me in. I have to travel for treatment, to make it easy on me, they coordinated with me so I could do as much as I could at home before coming in.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
The first round, we used BC followed with lupron, then added in Menopur and Gonfal F with a hcg trigger shot. I overstimulated. Second round I was put on metformin for a couple of months before the retrieval, then BC, Menopur, Gonal-f, and Bravelle (sp) with a lupron trigger. Less eggs and I didn't overstimulate.

The IVF with ICSI plus medication and transfer was about $12,000.
I was worried when I made my first appointment with him [Dr Eugene Stoelk] that he was going to jump straight to IVF and not try to figure out the specific cause of my infertility struggle. That was not the case at all. He gave us a lot of information on infertility in general and various common causes. We discussed my situation and he gave my husband and I options on how we would like to proceed. We went through multiple tests before even starting treatment so he could understand my body better.
[Northwest Fertility Center has a] very small, family atmosphere at this clinic. Easy access from I-5 as well as convenient parking. Never had to wait long to make an appointment or wait for my appointment time. They were always on time and very friendly. When we finally "graduated" from Dr. Stoelk's care and released to our regular OBGYN for the remainder of the pregnancy, Dr. Stoelk's team had a little care package for us for the baby. It was very sweet, you know they really care.

We were referred to Dr. Stoelk by a good friend would had success with him and loved him as a Dr. When we made the decision to seek further help from a RE, we did not even hesitate to contact his office and we are so glad we did. We weren't successful right away, but he never gave up hope. He kept a positive attitude all while not giving us false hope that everything we tried would work. Infertility is a long, painful process but Dr. Stoelk somehow let some light in on that dark tunnel. I wish he could have remained our Dr. through the entire pregnancy!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr. Stoelk was very personable. I felt like he always remembered me and my specific situation. Any time I called his office, almost always he took the call himself and answered any questions or concerns I had. I had a laparoscopy with him on a Friday and received a call from him on Saturday checking to see how I was doing. I felt very taken care of and helped build my trust with him.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We went into our first appointment with Dr. Stoelk a little nervous that he would jump straight into IVF. I did not want that as I felt very hopeful there were other options for us and more things we could try before taking the IVF leap. He took his time describing for us all the options and possible paths for treatments. We had various tests run so he could gather more information on our specific situation. We started at the bottom with several clomid cycles, clomid with progesterone. A laparoscopy for endometriosis removal and removal of paratubal cysts. We took several breaks during this time due to our own need for a little separation from the medication and needing to gather ourselves again. We jumped back in with Gonal-F shots with a trigger shot...found out on my 30th birthday we finally got our +!!!
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
All the nurses are very friendly and personable. They seemed to really enjoy their jobs, it always reflects in someones attitude if they like where they work. If I called with a question or concern, and it was always answered very quickly. I never had to call to request test results, they were relayed to me in a very reasonable amount of time.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
We were very fortunate to have our insurance cover most of the procedures, office visits and ultrasounds. We only had to pay out of pocket for the medications, which ended up being $3000-4000.
He [Dr. Eugene Stoelk] spends as much time with you as you need. He is candid about YOUR chances of fertilization and live births. It's not all about what the averages are. He pours over your individual results and lays put options...we continued with using Dr. Stoelk's internal egg donor list and not use an egg bank. These were individuals he has screened personally, vetted and most he has worked with in the past and are proven donors...At 5 weeks pregnant I experoemced significant bleeding on a Sunday. It was a lot with cramping. He answered his cell phone on the 3rd ring and had me calmed down and reassured me in a way only he could. He is very scientific and provides real explanations. He told me to come in first thing in the morning for a check up and all was fine. I continued to bleed for 6 months and he was always positive and, you know what, he was right.
This [Northwest Facility Center] is an extremely small clinic with a small staff. There is no "nurse coord" like you read about on other sites or from larger clinics. Everyone knows your protocol, he only performs IVF once per month because it's just him and he does everything. I loved it because it was like going to a friend's office and they just know what is happening and you can ask them anything. I will say, it may appear that he can be disorganized but he is NOT. He is amazing and smart and caring and knows what he's doing... He does offer acupuncture during transfer which is awesome.
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
He offers reasonable and effective treatments. You can tell he isn't in this for the money but truly because he wants people to have a family but things just don't go as planned. At 5 weeks pregnant I experoemced significant bleeding on a Sunday. It was a lot with cramping. He answered his cell phone on the 3rd ring and had me calmed down and reassured me in a way only he could. He is very scientific and provides real explanations. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Ask questions and tell him how you communicate best. Sometimes he gets a little scientific and goes quickly. He's very successful so trust him. He may be quiet at times and you're left wondering if what's happening next is good or bad. Just ask him. He's not the most gregarious person but he is patient and kind.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
He spends as much time with you as you need. He is candid about YOUR chances of fertilization and live births. It's not all about what the averages are. He pours over your individual results and lays put options. We didn't opt for IVF with my eggs because based on MY testing and cost it didn't make sense. He showed us all the options and we were able to come to a decision. Previous fertility clinics we had been to wanted you to go through every option first which is costly and emotionally draining when you never get pregnant.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
We went straight to donor egg due to poor egg production/quality from another clinic and failed cycles. Dr. Stoelk was very reasonable and truthful with my labs and previous experience and while he would have supported IVF with my own eggs he wanted me to be realistic and not waste a ton of money on my own eggs. Since we were extremely open to donor eggs, didn't even have to think about it, we continued with using Dr. Stoelk's internal egg donor list and not use an egg bank. These were individuals he has screened personally, vetted and most he has worked with in the past and are proven donors. We chose a proven donor, my husband had already completed a spermanalysis, so the donor and I began birth control to sync cycles. Our protocol was:
Me: Begin Birth Control on first day of menses; continued that for 2 weeks
Began Lupron - 10 units once a day for approx 2 weeks
Began Estradiol 2 mg once per day for 3 days then creased to 2mg twice per day for 10 days; increased estradiol 2 mg 3 times per day until the pregnancy test.
Ultrasound was scheduled for lining check and waited for egg retrieval of the donor. Once retrieval took place I started progesterone in oil shot in the AM and continued with 1 cc daily for 12 weeks.
Donor: Lupron for 10 days to sync; ultrasound and blood tests done and Bravelle Ingections began. ES blood draw every other day with an ultrasound beginning at 8 days to check for egg production. Novarel injection (HCG Trigger) was administered on the 9th day and retrieval took place on the 10th day. 22 eggs were retrieved, 18 fertilized and 14 made it to 8 days cell on the 5th day.
Embryo transfer occurred on the 5th day post fertilization
2 embryos transferred; 12 were frozen
Home Pregnancy Test taken on the 6th day post 5 day transfer and it was positive.
Blood test confirmed pregnancy on the 8th day post 5 day transfer.
5w4d ultrasound showed 1 embryo with heartbeat
6w2d ultrasound showed 2 embryos with heartbeats
At 35 weeks two perfect girls arrived!
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northwest Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Millie and Megan )
This is an extremely small clinic with a small staff. He is amazing and smart and caring and knows what he's doing.
Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
Very small so don't expect bells and whistles with everything. I've been to a big clinic and they took every bit of my money and I didn't get half of the truth that Dr. Stoelk provided.
He does offer acupuncture during transfer which is awesome.
I had his cell phone and he actually answers on the first ring, he's calm, he's patient and he's a positive man.
He is a Christian and it is clear that he has a specific belief system but it is not overt but it is there. I'm not Christian and never felt uncomfortable and he treats all walks of life. A homosexual couple friend of ours noted that he did not feel that they would treat them because he is obviously Christian, that was not the case at all! They ended up choosing another clinic and 3 years later they are still waiting for a successful transfer to their surrogate. They have since returned to Dr. Stoelk for treatment.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
The total cost, including medications and donor fee was $18,400.
DR Stoelk: At our first meeting he was so clear and open and understanding, I couldn't believe it. All the other docs I met with treated me like a science experiment or continued to point out all the things I had "wrong" with me. But DR Stoelk was confident and realistic. He took the time at the intake meeting to go through the whole IVF procedure, risks, costs, timeline, etc. He asked questions to make sure I understood and was responsive to my concerns. Best of all, he actually communicated that he CARED about me as a person first and a patient second. And that didn't stop after the first meeting. That care continued through our whole cycle. The excellent thing was that he was always the one doing all my procedures and ultrasounds. No rotating ultrasound tech, no waiting for phone calls, he was right there all the time, helping me through till the very end.
Friendly faces: Every person in that office is happy to see you and happy to be helping. It is a small team, so you will never wonder what new face you may see. The same 2 people did all my blood draws, picked up the phone when I called, helped me with scheduling and questions. During a time when so much is chaos and you feel really out of control, I can't express to you how comforting it is to personally know your whole care team and know they honestly care about you and your results.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Be clear of what you want and let him know what your fears are. He will help talk you through all outcomes and give you realistic expectations.

If I am able to come back in and edit this review I will input the info when I get home to my med records for details.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Northwest Fertility Center.
Responsive, friendly, intimate: That was my first impression of their office. The office team was expecting me and in that first appointment (and every, seriously every, appointment thereafter) I never waited more than 5 minutes to get into the exam room.
Describe your experience with Northwest Fertility Center.
Exams/Procedures: Wow, IVF is a tough road in the best of circumstances. If you add anything out of the box...it gets pretty dramatic pretty fast. I will always admire the team at Northwest Fertility Center for the challenge I presented them on my egg retrieval day. When faced with a less than perfect situation, DR Stoelk and his team jumped to action to change the game plan to ensure that we retrieved as many eggs as we could. All the while helping calm a terrified woman (me) that I was in confident and experienced hands. I can't imagine any other DR responding as well as DR Stoelk did. It is truly due to his expertise that we were able to capture 5 little eggs.
Cost: Fertility treatment is expensive; really really really expensive. Northwest Fertility Center has a dedicated team member who can help you with finances and options. We were certainly mindful of the cost...but like the outcome...don't let that be your only determining factor. I will say that the way that Northwest Fertility Center bundles their meds and exams it is one of the most affordable clinics in town.
Outcome: You can access all the statistics you want about all the clinics in town. But honestly that only tells half of the story. In my opinion, when it comes right down to it, going through any fertility treatment is going to be a gamble at best. Whether a clinic has a 60% positive response rate or a 40% rate...it is all still a huge margin for undesired outcomes. So in choosing my clinic I had to go deeper. I asked myself...who do I want to spend the next 3 months of my life with? Who do I want to come and see almost daily? Who do I trust is going to have MY best interest in mind? Who is going to care about me and what I am going through? Who actually cares about helping me build a family? None of those answers are in a data base somewhere. You have to assess them on your own. I earnestly feel that regardless of my outcome my review of this team would be the exact same.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
All said and done (meds included) it was around 12-13,000 a full fresh cycle and transfer.
While he[Dr. Stoelk] seems disorganized he actually is very methodical and process driven... He never over promised, he never over reacted or over shared. Sometimes it was good to just answer my questions or concerns candidly but he always reminded me that every person is different... No gouging and when our first proven donor didn't produce enough eggs he gave us the next cycle of meds at no cost.
Dr Stoelk [and team at Northwest Fertility Center] remembered every detail and was blunt and honest about the treatment we should pursue. He wasn't there to solely make money, he wanted us to have our take home baby... And he's [reasonably] priced. No gouging and when our first proven donor didn't produce enough eggs he gave us the next cycle of meds at no cost. They always remember you and no question or concern is dumb.
How was your experience with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
While he seems disorganized he actually is very methodical and process driven. Sometimes you read way too much about infertility on blogs and we research way too much on Google. Dr Stoelk would always explain what I read and break it down in real speak. He never over promised, he never over reacted or over shared. Sometimes it was good to just answer my questions or concerns candidly but he always reminded me that every person is different. I had major bleeding for the first 8 weeks and he never became overly concerned. He would talk me off the ledge and let me come in for an ultrasound to ease my fears. He is straightforward and very mellow and I love him and thank him everyday for our babies! And he's raasonably priced. No gouging and when our first proven donor didn't produce enough eggs he gave us the next cycle of meds at no cost.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Do not think he doesn't care because he's calm and mellow. He's realistic and has been doing this for years and years. He knows what's best and trust him.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center?
Dr Stoelk remembered every detail and was blunt and honest about the treatment we should pursue. He wasn't there to solely make money, he wanted us to have our take home baby.
Describe the protocols Eugene Stoelk used in your cycles at Northwest Fertility Center and their degree of success.
Started with Lupron and then BCP until my next cycle. Had a period and cycled with our donor. Once she started her meds I continued with Lupron, an aspirin and Vit D and estrogen pills. Had a lining check the week before retrieval At egg retrieval I started Progesterone IM shots and continued with estrogen until pregnancy was confirmed. Continues with progesterone for 12 weeks.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
Total cost including donor's cycle, meds and fees and my meds, transfer, blood work and ultrasounds was $22000.
He [Dr. Eugene Stoelk] is black and white with his explanations. But I like that. Explained all possible outcomes. He was willing to meet our needs no matter what. Always available to answer my many questions! Even after our treatment he was more than willing to follow up with us and make sure we were getting what we needed.... He was always so personable. Would work any day or time to meet your schedule. His office is small and we got to know all his staff. He prayed with us and was also very honest. We are so grateful for his help in starting our family! I would absolutely recommend him to anyone in need of a fertility doctor.
Small staff [at Northwest Fertility Center] so I got to know them all. They were always very honest and helpful and friendly. I always felt welcomed and comfortable.... We used injections to help me grow nice big eggs! Then I had a trigger shot (HCG) to cause me to ovulate when the eggs looked big. Then I had IUI. The first time it did not work. The second time it did. I had many blood tests at various stages of the process. My daughter is now 4.5 years old! Hard to believe. For my son, he only needed to give me the HCG shot and my husband and I conceived on our own. My son is 3 now. Baby #3 came on her own the old fashioned way.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Eugene Stoelk at Northwest Fertility Center.
All fertility treatments are expensive! But they were comparable to other places and doable.
He [Dr. Eugene Stoelk] was very kind and personable. A good communicator of the problem and possible solutions. One thing though, he was not very open to natural treatments such as acupuncture and supplements. He was a bit dismissive of that when I mentioned some of what I have done...One treatment he did was test to see if sperm survive after intercourse...basically he takes a swab of mucus and puts it under a microscope to to see if any sperm are alive. Other clinics do not use this method for different reasons but we got further discouraging news with this test and not very helpful feedback except for IVF.

He spend time talking with us and learning our sorry, and not just pitching his treatment philosophy at us after seeing lab results.

I like that the clinic is small. It feels like a family doctors office and not a big giant scary fertility clinic. The staff is friendly and the clinic has relatively easy access, with free parking. Could make lobby a bit warmer. It’s a bit too clinical.

Dr. Stoelk office is quite reasonable. Many of the testings and ultrasounds were a bit more within our budget range.
I am, always addressed by first name (spouse too). Know who you are every time you call on the phone without referencing the system or a file. Can talk to Doctor [Stoelk] when you call or receive a call back within an hour at most. Have doctor's personal cell number...We rarely saw a nurse, as all appointments were with Dr. Stoelk.... Always on a first name basis, ready to see you when you arrived, so professional, personal, and friendly!...We did see a nurse on embryo transfer days - she assists Dr. Stoelk with the procedure.
If going in for a blood draw, or to pick up meds, we'd see his medical assistants, and they were amazing. The doctor [Dr. Stoelk] looks to treat underlying problems and doesn't try to push more expensive treatments like IVF straight away. He took all our info and tied our plan to it in an individualized way. It was very refreshing..I felt like he listened to all the information I gave him and answered all my questions. The treatment route he suggested was actually based on my individual circumstances and not just a "standard procedure"...
The wait time to get a consultation [at Northwest Fertility Center] is quite long. I felt there could have been a little more sympathy, but he explained everything clearly and didn't sugar coat things or give unfounded false hope, which is refreshing. He listened to the data I brought and took it seriously. I did not feel dismissed like with previous doctors.

I have nothing negetive to say about Dr. Stoelk. He has awesome bed side manner. Very caring and listened to every concern we had. Never tried to change our minds about the direction in which we chose to become parents. He is very warm and welcoming. His office felt like home. From consultation to conception he never disappointed.... Called to make sure I was ok after negative results or starting a new cycle with clomid. I ran the show, I made the calls! I was never pressured and always treated like I was human
Zero pressure from anyone [at NW Fertility Center- Portland]. They were helping to create families not "selling cars" The communicate clearly. Never placed on hold while calling and never had any misunderstandings with billing. They take your case seriously and are willing to go the extra mile. Do not remeber exact numbers but I had done research and their procedures we alot more reasonable than another clinic we had done a consult at
He [Dr. Eugene Stoelk] called me personally for all test results. Recognized me and my spouse when we came in, referred to past scenarios without having to read up on notes etc...He is a one man show, does everything himself and not a factory. No he doesn't have the latest and greatest machines, but he also doesn't charge an arm and a leg for ivf. I appreciated the time he took to explain things to me. I appreciated that he answered my questions directly rather than having me deal with a nurse.
[Northwest Fertility Center] Strengths: Personalble, he's [Eugene Stoelk] been doing this a long time. He and his wife dealt with infertility. He was honest about everything. Kept costs down compared to other clinics. Weaknesses: he is a one man show. His process isn't for everyone. Equipment isn't latest and greatest...Best nursing staff! Dr Stoelk had old school approaches. I wanted to try new treatments that he didn't seem fully on board with (he did them anyways)...back his reasons with research...was very compassionate and has a personal experinece with IVF...We are going back at the end of Nov for a frozen transfer for baby #3.
[Northwest Fertility Center is a] small clinic, highly afforadable compared to other larger clinics. He brought in acupuncturists to perform procedures before and after transfers. I haven't been in since 2017 so I don't know what advancements he has made since then...warm and welcoming!

Dr Stoelk had old school approaches. I wanted to try new treatments that he didn't seem fully on board with (he did them anyways) but it took some minor convincing. He back his reasons with research but I don't think he was always up to date on his research (or maybe I wasn't up to date on mine). He was very compassionate and has a personal experinece with IVF. We have recommended him to 3 other friends who have all had successful pregnancies. We are going back at the end of Nov for a frozen transfer for baby #3.
