Francisco Batres (OB/GYN)

I am very happy that Dr. Batres is my doctor. He is very gentle and kind, very knowledgeable, and good at making people smile. He does have an accent that can sometimes be hard to understand, but I’ve never felt that it was a barrier for communication. He explains things thoroughly. He has performed my fertility treatments as well as the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy surgeries that I had. I fully trust him!

It never hurts to ask questions. If you feel you don’t understand something, just ask and he will explain it further or draw It out to help you understand.

We had previously had 1 miscarriage, and my husband had low motility & morphology, so Dr. Batres first had my husband take daily vitamins - Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega 3, CoQ10, and a multivitamin with zinc, to see if that improved his motility. He also had me do ovulation predictor kits and take progesterone after ovulation. We did this for 6 months with no pregnancy, but it did bring my husband’s motility and morphology back to normal! Then we did 1 IUI with letrozole, but no pregnancy. Dr. Batres thought I might have a uterine septum but couldn’t tell for sure with the ultrasound, so I had an MRI done, and sure enough I did. I had surgery to remove the septum (hysteroscopy) along with a laparoscopy to see if I had endometriosis. No endometriosis, so we continued with 3 more IUIs, all with letrozole and estrogen.The last 2 IUIs ended with chemical pregnancies. At that point Dr. Batres said we were candidates to move on to IVF. We’ve been saving up money, so we have not done any IVF rounds yet.

He recommends transferring one egg at a time, eapecially for someone my age (25), and because my egg quality is good.

We were always treated very kindly and if we ever had a question it was answered quickly even when the clinic was experiencing problems with their phone lines. There was one time that I forgot to pick up a prescription and my pharmacy was closed. Dr. Batres immediately returned my call and submitted a new prescription to a 24 hour pharmacy. We had all positive experiences with our clinic and doctors.

I would tell people that he is very laid back and has a unique sense of humor. I would also tell them to not be afraid to ask questions because he will explain everything thoroughly.

To start my cycle I was on a continuous birth control and I took supplements including coQ10 and vitamin b complex. Due to my low ovarian reserve once injections started I was on the highest dosage of medicine. Before we began the cycle I was checked to make sure that endometriosis had not returned. I gave injections and went in for blood work every other day. We knew that I was not producing as many follicles as they had hoped. On the scheduled day I gave myself the trigger shot and then came in for retrieval when instructed to. Our embryo was an 8 cell excellent when it was transferred. The geneticist said that everything appeared to be progressing normally however the shape of the egg was more like a cucumber and not a circle. They did assisted hatching and we were told that there would be a 35% chance of success during this transfer. We had no embryos to freeze.

The cost of IVF was 11,000. We were self pay and so that all came from us. There were times that insurance would cover some of the testing that led up to the IVF process.

I think Dr. Batres is a wonderful doctor. He truly cares about his patients. I also like how he is very thorough and explains everything, including writing it down and giving you a copy. He also explains everything while doing the ultrasounds. I will say my only negative, and it's not really negative, is that he has a chuckle while he talks that can be off putting if someone doesnt tell you before you meet him.

Just be honest and share any of your concerns or questions.

With my history we we started on a higher dose of letrazole, then went to tamoxifen, and back to letrazole. We did them back to back and I didn't respond, but had a good uterine lining . We are now moving on to injectables.

My 1st appointment was around $500 but that included my insurance paying for some of it. Most of my appointments cost around 250 also because my insurance does pay for a small portion of the ultra sounds. When I eventually get to IUI it will cost around $900 plus medication costs. Since I am movie on to injectables the cost of medication to go up to $2500.

He is caring and interested in our journey. He listens to my concerns and talks through any questions I might have. He has on occasion been busy and I felt rushed or like I was frustrating him and he prefers I talk details of the cycle with Debbie. Overall though I believe he is on our team and wants a positive outcome for us.

Come prepared with questions. He is pretty strait to the point and while he will do what you want treatment wise he also will try to offer other plans.

For our first planned cycle we did birth control, and a baseline ultrasound. I then injured myself so that cycle was canceled. He then wanted me to ovulate, use an OPK and a progesterone rest 6 days later. We will then start estrogen until we start the stims. We are in the middle of this process now.

The appointments up until IVF treatment were covered by insurance, but we still had a copay and paid 20%. The clinic was $11,000 and meds were $3,700.

The clinic uses ESET unless there is a reason to do 2.

Horrible experience. He has an accent and is very hard to understand. He does not go in to detail on anything and left us in the dark on most things. He has a nervous laugh that he does that always came at the most inopportune time. I have no doubt that he was very smart and capable. But he did not give us the experience we needed and we are switching doctors.

Don't let his nervous laugh get to you. Just know he isn't meaning to be insensitive. Do your own research because you're not going to get any detailed information out of him.

He did not give us any details as to strategies or why he chose them. Part of the reason for our horrible experience.

He has an accent that has a side effect of sounding a little cold at first but that impression passed quickly. For better or worse, he is extremely informative and descriptive as the procedure is taking place. My wife and I both agreed it was more comforting than not but I could understand if someone else was put off by it. I definitely felt that he was doing out of concern for the patient as an attempt to make them feel somewhat in control of a vulnerable situation. He is very particular about how full your bladder is during the procedure and I appreciated the attention to detail.

Don’t be thrown off by your first impression of his concern for your situation.

We used patches and injections for donor egg IVF cycles. It seemed pretty standard. After 2 failed cycles, as we prepared for our last embryo, he suggested a biopsy and a scrape which we went for.

$20,000 + medications for initial retrieval and cycle. $3,000+ meds for each additional transfer cycle.

I never felt like a number at this clinic. Dr Batres has called me after hours and has always allowed us the time that we need to process information and schedule our treatments around that. The schedules t the clinic is very flexible and he even let me do remote monitoring since I live 3 hours away from the clinic.

Ask a lot of questions. He will answer them.

We had insurance coverage so I am not sure of the cost without that.

Dr. Batres recommended that we transfer 2 embryos both times, due to my age. Neither cycle resulted in a pregnancy (so far) but he encouraged us to transfer 2. I believe that he would have listened and followed our wishes if we had only wanted to transfer one, though. On our second fresh transfer, he allowed us to decide if we should transfer on day 3 or try to wait until day 5.

He is not a good communicator which is partly due to a language barrier. He also laughs at inappropriate times and made me feel like he really wasn’t interested in my issues. I was seen in this clinic for 2-3 years and also felt uncomfortable as a patient. Dr Batres and his partner are not patient advocates at all. They give the impression that they are in it for the money and do not care about their patients feeling or emotions.

Do not expect good communication.

I had multiple blood draws to check for thyroid issues, ANA, lupus anticoagulant, etc. Also had an HSG done and multiple rounds with fertility drugs. Received multiple vaginal US’s to look at uterus and uterine lining. Achieved pregnancy twice but miscarried both times.

About 70% of my care was covered by insurance.

His accent is very thick and he speaks quickly so he is hard to understand. While he does thoroughly explain things, he uses medical terms and speaks fast opposed to “dumbing it down” for you to understand.

Ask lots of questions and tell him when you don’t understand something

Started off with letrozole and then switched to clomid while doing “intercourse cycle” before switching to iui.Each month I was told there were good results to the medication but there would be no explanation to why I wasn’t getting pregnant. Then I was told the only way we could move forward was to do ivf, which we could not afford. They stopped treatments altogether and said when we were financially ready to start ivf to let them know.

My insurance covered most appointments and treatments. Just had a copay, and it would not cover certain injections I was prescribed. It did not cover xrays or the surgery I had. Also, when we reached where they wanted us to do IVF, my insurance did not cover medications needed and I was told I needed $8,000 to even begin the process

He was very upfront with potential success rates, I only felt slightly pushed straight to IVF, which we declined. I have declined cyst aspiration but when I asked questions about risk vs benefit of aspiration, i never got a clear answer. He carefully monitors me and i feel confident he will eventually get me pregnant.

Go somewhere else. But, since they’re the only IVF clinic in the state, you basically have no choice. So, if you do go; Ask questions. If you don't understand, keep asking. Advocate for yourself. Don’t be afraid to get confrontational if needed.

I have DOR diagnosis. He told me success rates are better with IVF but i wasn't ready to get into that. We started IUI with 100mg clomid and ovidrel trigger. We are about to start cycle 3 doing the same since I respond well to the clomid for a DOR patient.

Cost for IUI cycle $1200 includes all appointments, monitoring, and procedure After 1 IUI cycle, we opted to pay for appointments as we went. I had only needed 1 monitoring appointment before trigger. The billing lady told us paying as we went would cost us more, but it didn’t. Total was $200 less for us. Not everyone would save, maybe, but we did. Run the numbers yourself, don’t take their word for it. I asked for an itemized cost for IVF, which the person responding to my message, refused to give. She said 15-20K Plus Meds.

Dr Batres takes time with his patients and helps them to understand each step along the way. He is honest and up front. Answers all questions we have. Even when we have just wanted to move forward and just go through with IVF to have a baby, if there was something that needed to be done or if we needed to wait three months and then repeat testing that's what he would suggest we do before doing it how we just want to do it. After all he is the doctor and has been doing it for awhile. He is very personable and will actually talk to you in his office one on one at each visit versus and exam room. We see everything he puts in our office visit notes.

It may take awhile to go through testing and there may be set backs but it will work out in the long run. Just trust him

We are going to be starting IVF soon. Don't know all of the specifics just yet but I have started on birth control and will be going for our class next Monday

Sometimes he was hard to understand since he is from Guatemala. But overall he is a 10 in my book. Wonderful wonderful doctor!! I would not see another doctor because he is the best. My experience was great and I’ve actually missed him since getting pregnant and having my two miracles.

Bear with him and take his medical advice.

I wanted to try IUI before IVF Dr.Batres wanted me to skip IUI but i didn’t listen to him so because of my decision i had to have surgery for endometriosis and two months of fertility drugs for two rounds of IUI AND two negitive pregnancy tests later we went on to IVF and 1st round I was pregnant with twin girls!!

I would say reasonable considering what i was going for there is no price to be put on a child.

He wasn’t pushy and I wanted to do multiple transfer and he was ok with my choice after 10 years of infertility i was happy to make that decision

Overall good experience with the Dr. Batres. He was patient and thorough. He does have an accent that makes it a little hard to understand. He also draws upside down while he's discussing your assessment which was distracting for my husband. Poor experience with the clinic and nurses.

I would ensure that you're educated on your diagnosis and very well researched. He does talk quickly so you have to keep up.

Dr. Batres works at the only clinic in Arkansas so if you want to pursue IVF in AR, you don't have any other options. We never moved passed the assessment stage with Dr. Batres. Things were progressing much too slowly. At every step, the would request information from past treatments that we'd already shared over. We eventually switched to Tulsa.

I only paid for the initial visit and I don't remember the exact amount.

I always felt like Dr Batres cared about us as a couple and wanted our treatments to be successful. When we finally got a positive pregnancy test (after one failed round of IVF) he gave us both a big hug and told us to bring him a baby to see.

His accent is a little bit hard to understand so it made it easier (for me) to watch his lips moving

Dr Batres did change medication doses after our first failed attempt. He increased certain medications and made sure to keep an eye on developing follicles.

Our insurance covered 80% of our treatments (excluding medications) We ended up spending about $5,000

During the first round of IVF, Dr Batres suggested transferring 1 embryo, but he said he would support us if we chose to transfer 2. We chose to go with 2. After that round failed, the next round he did suggest trying 2 embryos again, and both of them took. However, early on one of the embryos stopped growing and eventually disappeared on ultrasounds.

If you can see past his quirks and recognize that he is an excellent doctor who is passionate about helping people start a family, you will love him. He knows what he’s doing 100%. He helped us get our baby. If warm and fuzzy bedside manor is your needs as a pateint, he may not be for you.

Trust him and let him know your preferences. He is different but his plans are solid and successful. I communicated that I didn’t want Clomid and he gave me an alternative with lower risk of multiples and less harsh side effects.

Dr. Batres placed me on a medication to start my cycle, did ultrasound and labs to evaluate ovulation and follicles, placed me on Letrozole, and then once I was ovulating he instructed us to have intercourse every other day. This protocol worked within 2 months.

I do not recall. It was very expensive and we continued to pay on these bills up until these last couple months (our son is almost 2) but it was worth it.

Dr. Batres is from another country (guatemala I believe) so the biggest drawback is that his accent is a bit heavy, but he overcomes that easily by explaining everything in detail and drawing diagrams to help you understand. He doesn't mind repeating things and doesn't get offended by this. He is very cheerful but also honest and won't sugar coat the truth. I had a wonderful experience with him and after three years of trying I got pregnant within four months of his care.

Be patient-sometimes you'll have to see Dr. Moutos and he is just not full of good bedside manner, but Dr. Batres is great.

First we started doing Letrozole with IUI and that did not result in a pregnancy. The next cycle we tried doing letrozole again because I had at least ovulated on it before (and before seeing dr. batres I had done many letrozole and clomid cycles that most of the time at least led to ovulation) but that failed to produce an egg, so that cycle failed and did not proceed. After that we moved to Gonal-F with a trigger shot and an IUI, which resulted in my pregnancy. We had to adjust the dose of Gonal-F as we went and it was a late ovulation, but it worked!

The IUI package cost was around $950, but that didn't include drugs, so drugs could really make or break your finances. For the Gonal-F I spent another $1000 which was only 50% because I qualified for an income contingent program through EMD serono that the clinic informed me of.

Dr Batres is a great doctor. Gets to the point and doesn't sugar coat. Not a great communicator. Hard to understand. Have to ask a lot of clarifying questions. We had success with IVF through him so I am thankful to him.

Bring a notepad to take notes. Ask questions and slow him down when he speaks.

We had unexplained infertility. We did four cycles of IUI. First with letrozole then clomid. Liked that we switched drugs during these so we could see if we got a different result. Went through IVF. Body responded great to the drugs. Retrieved 19 eggs. 12 fertilized and we transferred one based on their recommendation.

Luckily we had great insurance where we had already met our deducible so we are 80/20.

We really wanted to transfer two. However, I have high blood pressure and they very strongly advised us to only transfer one. My OBGYN agreed with this too. So we transferred one.

Dr batres is a caring dr. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field. I trust him to do what is best for me and my family. I know he has my best interest at heart. He is sure to taste time to meet with you after each appt.

Ask him any questions you may have because he will answer them thoroughly.

The treatments are very expensive as they are at most places. Labs and ultrasound are also very pricey. I’ve had one mistake made in the billing department.

He was very compassionate and kind. He made me feel like my feelings mattered, and I felt secure in his care. I was very pleasantly surprised when he let us see a sample of the sperm under the microscope! That's was really neat and made the experience seem hopeful to me!

Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially if you aren't 100% clear.

The IUI procedure was around $500. The additional medications and ultrasounds added up to around $600+. The whole IUI wound up costing over $1000

He is very compassionate and nice man. He is difficult to understand at times but does his best to make sure you understand before you leave, even draws pictures and diagrams. He gave me his personal cell number and called and checked on my after IVF procedure

Be patient, he is always running behind. But it is bc he spends so much time explaining

Dr. Batres is a kind, quirky, and compassionate doctor. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does and cares that the patient is well-informed. I would recommend him to anyone, and I'm thankful and blessed that I found him!

If you're expecting an answer, I can assure you that Dr. Batres will find one! If youre expecting results, I know Dr. Batres will do everything in his power to make it happen.

I am still currently using Dr. Batres. Our last cycle consisted of Progesterone 200 mg for 10 days, Clomid 50mg from days 3-7, and an IUI with donor sperm. No results yet. We're still waiting for the IUI

He is friendly. Can have awkward mannerism but is always descriptive with what procedures need to be done and what all that will include. He is very polite. Sometimes I feel that his speech and delivery of information is difficulty to understand at first but he is good to go over it again if you ask. I wish the office did a detailed electronic write up in addition to his hand written notes because they can be difficult to read

Ask a lot of questions and stick up for yourself and your opinion of what you want out of their services.

Dr.Batres and Dr. Moutus were both great! I saw a dr at every visit which was comforting. They always explained what we were doing and why. I feel Dr Batres is very thorough throughout the whole treatment process. We were lucky to get pregnant on our 2nd IUI, but our son was stillborn at 20 weeks for unknown reasons.

Ask questions and understand the process.
