How was your experience with Gary Levy at Tripler Army Medical Center?
Dr. Levy really makes time to listen to you and explain things to you. He takes into account what your goals are as far as family size goals. He is even easy to get a hold via email if you are having trouble reaching the nurses. We didn't always see him personally, but that is just due to the nature of the clinic. I know that if we had wanted to speak to him personally, that we could have easily arranged that. We would have continued with him through to pregnancy had we not been required to move for my job.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Gary Levy at Tripler Army Medical Center?

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Gary Levy at Tripler Army Medical Center?
Dr. Levy was fantastic to work with at Tripler. We felt like he really reviewed and cared about our case. We came to him after an egg freezing cycle and six months of trying to conceive naturally. We felt like he not only took our individual case into account, but really worked around the extensive demands of my job for scheduling - which was really important to his.
Describe the protocols Gary Levy used in your cycles at Tripler Army Medical Center and their degree of success.
We did three antagonist protocols. The first was cancelled due to poor response. The second, we made it to retrieval and got 13 eggs - combined with 4 eggs that survived the thaw from a freezing cycle - 1 genetically normal embryo came out of it. We decided to go for embryo banking and do another cycle, adding HGH, dexamethasone, and Clomid. That cycle resulted in 10 eggs, 1 genetically normal embryo and 1 mosaic. Following that cycle, we had to transfer to another city.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Tripler Army Medical Center. (Assigned nurse: Tanya)
The whole nursing team at Tripler was great when we were there. They are compassionate and kind, definitely willing to take time to explain everything to you. There is a long waiting list for cycles and you don't get to choose your doctor really. The nursing team will get back to you via email within a day or two usually. We had a specific difficulty managing both a cell and work telephone number, which made it really hard for me to get results sometimes because they would always seem to use the wrong number meaning we would have to wait for days to find out the status of our embryos or genetic testing.
Describe your experience with Tripler Army Medical Center.
The strength of this clinic is that you receive medications without charge, usually a single doctor per cycle, and the finances are managed by a very responsive crew at the civilian clinic they partner with. The prices are really reasonable and the staff is trustworthy and good. The issue will always be the limited capacity they have to cycle patients meaning wait times for a cycle are often six months. This is more a function of the military medical system's resource allocation and not them in particular.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Gary Levy at Tripler Army Medical Center.
Billing is actually handled through the civilian partnership clinic and they are fantastic! I didn't even realize I was supposed to get a refund form the genetic testing charges and they sent it without me having to ask. They always got back to me immediately and could be easily reached by phone. They actually asked to meet patients when they came in for retrieval so they could get to know them as well. I really liked the financial department I worked with there.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tripler Army Medical Center.
The only thing I can say, is that if you go with Tripler, you have to deal with extended waits and a nursing staff that doesn't always have the capacity to be immediately responsive as I've experienced at the civilian clinic that we now go to. The other issue was that the one time that I texted the "emergency pager," I never received a reply. Thankfully, the issue was just fine, but I never found out why no one responded.
Doctor Levy explained the process, gave my wife and I our options and when the first egg retrival came back abnormal through PGS testing he provided us with words of encouragement to continue and alternate options to provide better results for the second cycle. ... Doctor Levy is a very gentle and kind doctor who understands his patients. His weakness that we saw at the beginning was that he is an introvert, we had to questions to gain knowledge but as time moved on and the more we met with Doctor Levy the more open he became.
The weakness [of Tripler Army Med Center] would be the nurses. The nurses are very helpful and will call you back usually the same day or the very latest the next morning. The nurses are just overwhelmed and could use some training on the process. ... We had to fill out the same paperwork three times due to the nursing staff misplacing and failing to submit paperwork to egg retrival clinic.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Gary Levy at Tripler Army Medical Center?
I would tell them to build as much rapport during the first consult with Doctor Levy to help with the open communication throughout the process.

Describe the protocols Gary Levy used in your cycles at Tripler Army Medical Center and their degree of success.
1st cycle:
Gonal: 300
Menopur: 2
By day 6: change dose of Menopor to 3.
Results: 11 eggs retrieved on 26 AUG, 10 matured, 8 fertilized, and 3 embryos developed with abnormal results after PGT.
2nd cycle:
Gonal: 300
Menopur: 2
Growth hormone: 2
Results: 25 eggs retrieved on 01 OCT, still waiting for the remainder of the results.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Tripler Army Medical Center.
The nursing staff (3) seems overwhelmed and works out of a very small office. Out of the three staff members one staff member is the most knowledgeable which the other two staff members often ask for assistance on locating paperwork or understanding a certain process such as needle injections. My recommendation would be to provide the nurses with a larger office and hire another nurse to assist with the hectic workload.
Describe your experience with Tripler Army Medical Center.
Strength would definitely be the Doctor Levy. The weakness would be the nurses. The nurses are very helpful and will call you back usually the same day or the very latest the next morning. The nurses are just overwhelmed and could use some training on the process.

Describe Gary Levy's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Tripler Army Medical Center.
He was more selective on transferring one embryo per procedure medically speaking due to possible risks. He explained the risks of multiple embryo transfers and why he will advice only one embryo per transfer with PGT testing. Without PGT he would only advice the transfer of 2 but he would preferred only one.
What specific things went wrong at Tripler Army Medical Center?
Lost paperwork
Failed to send your chart to another clinic
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Tripler Army Medical Center.
We had to fill out the same paperwork three times due to the nursing staff misplacing and failing to submit paperwork to egg retrival clinic.
Dr. Levy seemed to give me the most information about the process... He was the first Doctor in that clinic to ask me about my sarcoidosis, which indicated that he had actually looked at my chart prior to walking into my appointment.... We are currently doing Gonal F and we don't have results of this round yet. He did explain that pending my next ultrasound we may increase the dosage. I feel like he has explained future options.
Weaknesses [Tripler Army Me Ctr], phone system. Multiple times there have been missed phone calls. Communication from the scheduling staff has been very frustrating. I found that it is easier to show up to the clinic to make appointments then to wait for a phone call back. Especially since it is such a time sensitive process. Strengths, the Ladies out front who check you in, and the nurses who do the vitals and accompany in the exam rooms are great. always cheery and pleasant.

Dr. Levy seemed to give me the most information about the process. I didn't start my IUI journey with him but when I leave an appointment with him I don't have any questions. He also give me a written, by him, review of instructions and such.

I was told by one of the scheduling ladies that I wasn't supposed to start Gonal F Shots until Day 5. She was very clear that I had for 2 round taken the shots wrong. The Doctor told me to start them on Day 2. Another incident with the same lady, She failed to tell me that I needed to arrive one hour before my appointment for the IUI so they will begin the Sperm Thaw. Luckily they were able to accommodate the timing. I was told by the other scheduling lady that "Everyone wants a baby" in response to how booked up the doctors are, also stated "we have more patients than doctors" Again causing undue frustration and stress.
Dr.levy has been an amazing doctor with great bedside manner, very personable, friendly, and educated. His only weakness i feel is that he can sometimes seem overly optimistic which isnt always bad but we all know this process doesnt always work... He was very on top of my treatments, and had me in weekly if not twice a week checking my progress for my egg retrival and ivf cycle. He said he would take an aggressive medicne regiment so that we would have great quality eggs
The REI clinic can feel disorganized at times, and the nurses and staff over worked. It can be hard to get ahold of nurses when starting cycles, but once situated with a doctor the process seems easier . i do wish they had an embrologist on staff so that i didnt have to be sent out for the egg retrival but i like that dr.levy was also registered with the outside clinic... Nurses from the gyno clinic some times help out the nurses from the REI clinic and the gyno nurses some times give out bad or wrong info.

His only weakness i feel is that he can sometimes seem overly optimistic which isnt always bad but we all know this process doesnt always work so im scared of false hope but that could be more of a problem with me than him. Other than that he has been able to explain every procedure , test, and scan so that i understood and knew exactly what was going to happen and in what order.

Tripler REI clinic has been wonderful but i dont feel that the head doctor enjoys her job or cares for her patients. I was very lucky to get paired with dr.levy over the head doctor of the clinic. Dr Levy would call or email to follow up with me. He wanted to make sure everything was perfect for transfer. He also took time to call me in his office after each exam to go over any questions or concerns... Dr Levy was knowledable and personable. I liked how he made sure I understood what was going on. I moved to a different state and he made sure to stay in contact with me and even called me to make sure all was ok.
Clinic [Tripler Army Medical Center] offered affordable procedures. Only downside is the waitlist. And that they do it in batch cycles. I understand the need for it though with their clinic. They do a excellent job with how many people they serve. They stay very busy.... Sharlene [a nurse] was organized and made sure all prescription were called in and that I understood how to take each one.

Dr. Levy is a very knowledgeable endocrinologist and he is passionate...was prompt to answer all of my questions...I have a rare congenital condition, and I was surprised that he was familiar with it, and knew the perfect protocol to put me on in preparation for my IVF egg retrieval.
Overall, everyone [at Nevada Fertility Center] was amazing and I have no things to note aside from positive feelings towards the team. Everyone was responsive, had solid communication, and were understanding. Thank you for being the cornerstone to helping me fulfill my dream of being a mother

Dr. Levy is a very knowledgeable endocrinologist and he is passionate about the work he does. He was professional, to the point, and explained the process well for IVF. I have a rare congenital condition, and I was surprised that he was familiar with it, and knew the perfect protocol to put me on in preparation for my IVF egg retrieval. It was my first retrieval, and he met and exceeded my expectations. He is easy to talk to, and was flexible with my unique medical requests for my retrieval. Dr. Gary is an exceptional endocrinologist and I would absolutely recommend him to others.

Describe the protocols Gary Levy used in your cycles at Nevada Fertility Center (FKA SIRM Las Vegas) and their degree of success.
My situation was very unique, but Dr. Gary knew the exact protocol to put me on. I had followed directions perfectly with my hormone regimen, and I had a successful egg retrieval with multiple day 5 and day 6 blasts that were frozen. We did opt to use ICSI, since science has shown that the percentage of fertilized eggs are higher with this technique, as well as PGT testing to ensure our embryos were normal. A few months later after my retrieval, we started our surrogacy journey and our first embryo transfer stuck. Our daughter was born several months later.
