Describe the costs associated with your care under Gregory Neal at Fertility Center of San Antonio.
My husband and I spent more than $60,000 for a myomectomy, another minor surgery to remove polyps from my uterus, and three embryo transfers
Describe Gregory Neal's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of San Antonio.
Dr. Neal explained the risks of multiple embryo transfers and due to my age and the myomectomy, recommended SET. His explanation was detailed and thorough
it took an hour to start an iv. Dr Neal was mad that we were behind and while I was having my egg retrieval I woke up to him man handling my vagina. Now I was happy that I had my invocell device. Not happy that I didn’t have a local anesthetic and I woke up...Disposed of day 6 embryo without asking me first or transferring...
The nursing staff [at Fertility Center of San Antonio] is very scared of Dr. Neal. They won’t ask questions or verify...if your crying or had a miscarriage they put you in a room away from the front by yourself so you don’t scare the other patients...They do d&c weekly on Wednesday and Thursday...only have pictures of babies that they have made in the past 20 years of about 20 babies.
How was your experience with Gregory Neal at Fertility Center of San Antonio?
Dr Neal likes to rumble on about the whole Ivf journey. But what I didn’t get was the timeline. No calendar that was updated or anything so my job had to work around me.
The weakness: I have a history of clots and I was not to be on birth control without lovenox. Dr Neal told me no BCP. But I was told by his nurses that I needed to be on it. I called him after hours and after I took the pill and he said no don’t take it. Okay one bump. Than for my egg retrieval it took an hour to start an iv. Dr Neal was mad that we were behind and while I was having my egg retrieval I woke up to him man handling my vagina. Now I was happy that I had my invocell device. Not happy that I didn’t have a local anesthetic and I woke up. Oh yeah and I was bleeding a lot from the man handling. Now my egg transfer. I had 5 eggs and all fertilized. He wouldn’t allow me to pay for extra time with the lab or transfer my almost blastocyst either. And they forgot to put in the Valium for the egg transfer. My first time and I was freaking out. Than came my beautiful betas and my ultrasound. My baby died at 6w4d. I had a d&c at 8w3d. I also had three cyst and a bunch of pain for three weeks. And now I might have a functional cyst. Which will need to be drained or taken out. I’m extremely devastated and now terrified of fertility doctors. All I had was tubal. Also, I found out I had an extra chromosome and when I asked about the coq10 he said oh yeah I take that. This new doctor makes all her patients take that so that none miscarriage. It helps the egg to develop properly.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Gregory Neal at Fertility Center of San Antonio?
Make sure you ask about the prenatal vitamins and coq10. As well as açaí supplements. You should not have to have two miscarriages for it to be offered. Also ask about day 6 blastocyst to be transferred or two embryos to lower your risk of a missed miscarriage
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Gregory Neal at Fertility Center of San Antonio?
I only saw the doctor for my egg retrieval and transfer. I did invocell and had all my eggs that were placed in the device fertilized. I had one 5AA that was transferred and one that needed one more day. He threw it away. He did even put it in as well and he didn’t allow me to pay for the lab for a couple of days.
Describe the protocols Gregory Neal used in your cycles at Fertility Center of San Antonio and their degree of success.
I did invocell. I had birth control that was cancelled so that my periods would be regulated for there schedule than Lupron to stop all hormone production and finally menopur to start the ovulation. He only wanted me to make a few eggs. As to why I have non in the freezer. And I triggered with HCG
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Fertility Center of San Antonio.
The nursing staff is very scared of Dr. Neal. They won’t ask questions or verify. They dictate your medications and how to take them. They are sweet though. But if your crying or had a miscarriage they put you in a room away from the front by yourself so you don’t scare the other patients.
Describe your experience with Fertility Center of San Antonio.
This place looks like a funeral home in the main entrance. They do d&c weekly on Wednesday and Thursday. They do more d&c weekly than egg retrieval’s. They only have pictures of babies that they have made in the past 20 years of about 20 babies.

[Dr. Neal] took time to get to know me as a person before he ever even asked questions about my medical history in the consult...did not rush through the consult by any means. He spent well over an hour on the phone with me discussing my symptoms and past tests done by my OBGYN. He was very thorough and the care I received felt tailored to me as an individual, rather than a number. He wants us to get some tests done first. So I will be getting bloodwork, HSG, and an ultrasound. My husband will be getting bloodwork and a semen analysis...
Everything is packaged [at Fertility Center of San Antonio] which is kind of unexpected. My consult was covered, but bloodwork is $35 and HSG is $200, semen analysis is $75. Optional genetic testing is $350 per couple. Timed intercourse cycles are around $700 (includes monitoring but doesn't include meds), and IUI cycles are $1100 (includes IUI and monitoring but doesn't include meds)...They seem professional and organized...I spoke with Lisa over the phone and she answered all of my questions and followed up after the consult. She was knowledgable, organized, and compassionate. I felt like I was in great hands with her.
How was your experience with Gregory Neal at Fertility Center of San Antonio?
Dr. Neal is the very first fertility doctor we have ever seen. He immediately made me feel so comfortable and so at ease. I finally felt hopeful in my consult. He took the time to get to know me as a person before he even asked about my medical history. Because of covid-19, it was a phone consult, but I still felt like I could absolutely trust him with our fertility care. He answered all of my questions, provided a ton of information, and gave us next steps. He set us up with the nurse for scheduling and the business office to go over costs. I felt like he was very transparent which I appreciate. I know I have only seen him for a consult, but I seriously loved the care I have received so far!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Gregory Neal at Fertility Center of San Antonio?
Don't be afraid to ask questions! Dr. Neal knows so much and is a great resource. Ask questions, advocate for yourself, and don't be afraid to speak up! Not that he talks over you, but sometimes smart doctors can be intimidating to some people. He is so nice and will answer your questions if you ask.

He wants us to get some tests done first. So I will be getting bloodwork, HSG, and an ultrasound. My husband will be getting bloodwork and a semen analysis. After that, he wants to see me for a baseline ultrasound around cd2-4, take 5mg femara/letrozole cd 5-9, ultrasound on cd 12, trigger shot, and then either timed intercourse or IUI depending on the results of my husbands semen analysis.

So far, I haven't actually been to the clinic, due to covid-19. They seem professional and organized. Dr. Neal reviewed with me the clinic's practices for maintaining safety during covid-19 which I appreciated very much.

[Dr. Gregory Neal's] entire consultation with us that lasted several hours. Answered every question we had. He even ensured a follow up call was made and made sure our concerns and fears were taken care of as well...the only downside I have had is that we have only dealt with him once. After that it was either the other Dr.'s or nurses in the practice. Dr. Neal did make sure we were taken care or and over saw our course of treatment. We were successful at getting pregnant with our first IUI but unfortunately the pregnancy just didn't want to stay.
The clinic [Fertility Center of San Antonio] has a very consistent staff and all are always ready to help as needed. I feel that they are truly there to help however they can. The only weakness I have found is sometime the communication between the nurses when scheduling or doing call backs may get mixed up. This may be resolved with a better system...The nursing staff were always welcoming, communicative, and concerned for my well being. Once you start coming in on a weekly basis you get to know them much more and are always open for conversation and openness for questions.

Ask up front if he will be doing all visits or if he would be passing on to others. This hasn't bothered me as much because we still received great care. But if you are someone that wants the exact dr every time make sure you say something.

Prior to coming to the clinic we went through 2 rounds of clomid that were unsuccessful. So, once we were referred to the clinic and informed him of the outcome from clomid he went with his course of action. The First 2 months were a lot of blood test, follicular sonograms, and a sonohysterograph. All the different blood test checked for AMH, Sperm Antibody (IGA, IGG), Varicella-Zoster V Ab, TSH, Rubella Antibodies, RPR, Prolactin, HIV, HCV, HBsAg Screen, CCDC, Antibody Screen, ABO Grouping, FSH, and Estradiol. Had to take 1 month of birth control to do a saline sono. He also placed my husband on clomid to help with low T. For our first IUI I was place on 2.5mg Letrozole and then triggered the night before IUI with Ovidrel 250mcg. We had 2 very nice follicles one on each side that were for sure large enough to release. Unfortunately, I miscarried and then had an ectopic as well.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Fertility Center of San Antonio.
We only had one instance where my husband had to go back in for a second blood draw because something happened with his original blood draw. The next times he went the nurse made sure she took more than what was need to make sure he did not have to come back in for the same test.
I only saw Dr Neal twice. Once for the initial consult, and then at my last visit before graduating to and OB at 11 weeks pregnant. He was very knowledgable and professional. I saw two other Drs in the practice at other visits throughout my treatment...I always felt comfortable, and all of my questions were always answered...We were diagnosed with unexplained fertility, and decided it would be best to try a medicated IUI cycle. We were not pushed into this, and given the option to try a regular medicated cycle first, but we didnt feel confident that it would work. I was first prescribed Clomid, but my body did not respond well and it caused my body to have multiple small follicles that weren't maturing properly so the IUI was cancelled. Next cycle I was prescribed letrozole and produced two mature follicles. We conceived with IUI this cycle and had a successful singleton pregnancy.

I did see different doctors in the practice and did not follow up with just one Dr. I dont know if this is the norm for this clinic, but I do not at all think it hindered my care. In my opinion it made it easier to schedule appointments that worked with my schedule, and I still felt there was continuity with my care/treatment.

My protocol [with Dr. Gregory Neal] was very mild since my issue was tube related. It worked well and my cycle went very smoothly. I received a good number of eggs retrieved and ended up with embryos left to freeze...was extremely kind and informative. He took the time to answer all of our questions thoroughly. He never rushed us or made us feel like a number. He was very gracious and understanding of our needs and expectations. It was heartwarming that he was willing to help us and understood the struggles we had dealt with.

Describe Gregory Neal's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of San Antonio.
Yes, due to my age and fertility issues they wanted to transfer one embryo. They explained all of the reasons and rational behind it so we were confident in their decision.
Very knowledgeable and professional. Kind and caring. Very evidence based. Friendly and reassuring. Definitely working hard for his patient’s success. ... We did three retrieval’s with him and each one I got a lot of follicles on fairly low doses of medication. ... Due to my uterus shape he would only transfer one which I think was smart as far as the risks for twins with my uterus (bicornuate uterus).
The embryologist, Dr. Poole is incredible. He is top tier. He even discussed all of my questions and concerns about embryos a couple years later. He was scientific and pragmatic, with speaking compassionately (or not too harshly anyway). ... I believe they have meetings each morning to discuss patient cases (with all of the doctors and the nursing lead staff) so that everyone can thoughtfully brainstorm or troubleshoot together.

Describe the protocols Gregory Neal used in your cycles at Fertility Center of San Antonio and their degree of success.
We did three retrieval’s with him and each one I got a lot of follicles on fairly low doses of medication. I was 29. I’m not sure if it was my husband’s sperm (he did take supplements!) or my eggs but even after retrieving 22 eggs or around there most times, we ended up with 4 embryos, 1 embryo, and 2 embryos. This doesn’t count the one three day embryo transfer and one 5 day blast we transferred. Because of my uterus shape, he would only transfer one embryo and I think that’s part of why it didn’t work. I also think an FET was the best course for me because I always had negatives with fresh transfers but I at least got a chemical with the FET.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Fertility Center of San Antonio. (Assigned nurse: Elena)
Elena isn’t there anymore but I loved her. Her spirit and drive and positivity and encouraging attitude. When she had to call me to say it was negative, she was genuinely sad. And I needed help with a shot one morning when I had an ultrasound, she was ready to assist and with a sweet helpful attitude. The rest of the nursing staff seemed great too. But she made it feel comfortable to really know someone there who cared.

The nursing staff is great the physicians are excellent. I feel that they all work together really well. I believe they have meetings each morning to discuss patient cases (with all of the doctors and the nursing lead staff) so that everyone can thoughtfully brainstorm or troubleshoot together. Our insurance covered most of everything (Starbucks!) But our deductible or meds or something ended up costing I think about $1500 a cycle.
Describe Gregory Neal's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Fertility Center of San Antonio.
Due to my uterus shape he would only transfer one which I think was smart as far as the risks for twins with my uterus (bicornuate uterus). But we didn’t have success with one embryo and we did have two positive pregnancy tests in later years (though they were FET) when another doctor put in two embryos.
He’s kind caring and compassionate. He [Dr. Neal] also thinks through each thing according to my medical history not just the same as everyone else. He stays positive always hoping with us for our desired outcome!...A couple times he’s approached me in the hall to talk about my case which always surprises me that he can see my face and think about the different things that have happened in my personal experience... We used icsi due to my husbands low count. Now with FET we’ve adjusted my progesterone
You have to watch the charges and make sure things are correct. They [Fertility Center of San Antonio] granted me a refund for a cancelled cycle which was good, but then it got a little confusing paying for the next. We figured it out but I think there was an additional charge I had them remove. I overheard another couple saying they’d been billed twice. They are quick to fix things and I don’t believe it’s intentional but you do have to pay attention if you are paying out of pocket

The accounting staff always helped me understand the payments and work with me if I needed to make a payment late for any reason.... I paid a very small cost compared to what a IUI treatment would cost. They really have great prices I feel comfortable paying.

[Fertility Center of San Antonio]Quick turn around time for appointments, timely appointments, great business department, cost too much, great nurses, good 24 hour nurse help line, wish i had personal email for my nurse, but they typically get back to you quickly...They did not call with husband's SA results, just once....She [nurse] let me talk for several minutes, ask questions, cry and she was patient during all of it. In the office and on the phone she was there for us.

They did not call with husband's SA results, just once.
Dr Gregory Neal as a doctor was great. He had great communication skills and very compassionate. He went through every option that was available to us and the risk of any. He was the first doctor that we saw during our initial visit and he was very detailed in every option and very detailed in hes response... It was very difficult to get in touch with the doctor or nurses when you had questions.
The clinic [Fertility Center of San Antonio] is great! Very clean, friendly staff, receptionist greets you by name. I wish they would offer in house payment plans.... They are all great and friendly. but they have very poor communication skills when you step out of the office. It was impossible to get a call back. I would have to leave messages on the portal and leave several voicemails. Sometimes it was urgent and they would get back to me like 3-5 days later
