Gregory Zapantis

Dr. Zapantis had a pleasant "bedside manner" and was very friendly and polite. He also didn't make me feel rushed. On that note, I had to wait an hour to see him, BUT I was told that he was running behind because another new patient was taking longer than expected. And to be honest, that was less offensive to me because I can understand how that might happen (none of us want to feel rushed, right?) When it was my turn, I appreciated that he was efficient in speaking honestly and directly to me about my situation, while also allowing me ample time to give details and ask questions. Though it sounds generic to say this, he was clearly a very nice man. My one issue -- particular to me -- is that I am presenting a more challenging case (apparently) and I didn't feel like my issues were addressed in that context. I've met REs who get my info and seem to want to dive in as if I'm a walking cold case, which I appreciate. And while I fully felt that Dr. Zapantis wanted to help me, I didn't feel like we uncovered any major new rocks to overturn. Maybe there wasn't anything else to add, but that was just my personal feeling which made this consultation/exam a little different. He was positive and optimistic as if I was approaching IVF for the first or second time, vs several rounds in. The positivity made me feel good, but I'm also searching for answers and productive input. I would absolutely continue treatment with him based on his personality and apparent expertise, but it's hard for me to say more about his approach as I've only had one solid consultation and exam with him.

I am glad that I have seen additional doctors so that I could balance out what they advised against what Dr. Zapantis suggested. All my docs have been different, and the more you know as a patient, the better. It was helpful to hear what matched up with Dr. Zapantis' pov and where he felt differently. He is not a pushy person at all, so it's good to come with questions so you can flush out more info that might not otherwise come up.

I've not had success through multiple rounds of IVF and transfers; he suggested I try an alternate, medicated protocol that could be beneficial.

In our conversation about a future, hypothetic transfer, he seemed more conservative in his recommendation of how many embryos to transfer (which is my impression from most REs.)

Dr. Zapantis is kind and knowledgable in his profession. However, he is not always present for office visits and often you are seen by his NP. This is not a bad thing by any means, just thought I would mention it so you would know what to expect. His NP (who's name i will leave out since review is about Dr. Zapantis, however I believe deserves recognition) was always great with performing ultrasounds, guiding me through the entire process and even doing my first IUI. Dr. Zapantis is present mostly for the initial consultation and then 1-2 visits before the HCG injection. He did perform the 2nd IUI, and have to say it actually hurt a little more than his NP lol..Nothing to really mention or complain about though, really only a little cramping. I'm not sure if this holds true for IVF though since I only did 2 IUIs. Unfortunately both IUIs resulted in negative pregnancies but the process was made a little smoother with the NP, MA and office staff's help. Something I would have liked to see more of from Dr. Zapantis, however is more explanation of his recommendations going forward after failed treatment. I had to call to make an appt to discuss the next step and they were surprised when I asked to speak to the doctor about my options instead of just jumping to the next IUI cycle. I believe the nature of this work must be difficult however, and he does show compassion and does his best to present you with the facts. He also frequently cites medical literature however still presenting it in laymans terms. He has good bedside manner and has always been kind.

Decide whether you want genetic testing done before you go in to the office. I have been to 2 different RE's who have both recommended it, so I'm sure Dr. Zapantis is not alone in ordering it as part of the initial workup. However even after explaining my reasons for wanting to defer the testing (mostly due to cost and there not being any genetic diseases in the family etc) he convinced me to do it and I'm stuck with a tremendous lab bill. Remember it is your choice. Although I'm sure genetic testing can aid in some people's decision process, it does not tell you anything about why you are infertile or your chances of a sucessful pregnancy. To think, how many people get genetic testing done who concieve naturally? Also, they offer you genetic testing once you are pregnant so you can be informed of any issues at that time.

Treatment strategy was 3 IUIs then IVF. I have done 2 IUIs so far, both negative.

Although we did not achieve pregnancy after our IVF transfer we were very pleased with DR. Zapantis and his wonderful staff. We felt very confident In him and he always was willing to answer any questions we may have had. It's a smaller practice , which we found to be very important. We saw the same nurses, receptionists and Dr which made it more intimate. The facility was always welcoming , clean and inviting.

He is full of knowledge, take advantage of this

My cycle was mapped out prior to starting . I responded well to the stimulation drugs and had no reactions.

Dr. Zapantis is very knowledgeable and listens to your concerns. He takes his time with appointments and explains every thing so you can understand what is going on. You never feel like a number. I didnt even need to make a follow up appointment to speak with him, as he called as soon as he had my results.

Be your own advocate. As the dr is very willing to listen to your concerns

Estrogen priming, Gonal 150, Menopur 150, cetrotide. Stimmed for 9 days.

$800 for the clinic that the retrieval was at. $750 after insurance to the Dr.

Dr.Zapantis staff were very sweet and the nurse Jackie was great with answering my questions when needed to be answered .I really appreciate how patient they were with me when I had my hysterscopy procedure.

Don't be afraid to ask questions he is always willing to answer them .

He explains everything!!! He gives you all the details on the procedure, the meds, the medical terms, etc. He was great. this was my 4th doctor, but he was the first to give me all the information I needed
