I met Dr. Danzer a total of three times in person...kept referring to our matter as infertility, even though I reminded them every time I was in the office that I do not have infertility issues, but rather I did IVF to eliminate a dominate gene through genetic testing...completely mislead me to convince me to do IVF with him and then he failed to deliver on his promises...
SCRC is a machine and cranked me through on a drug protocol that was not at all tailored to my needs. You mainly interact with ultrasound technicians and the nurses who draw your blood. Dr. Danzer barely saw me...The nursing staff doesn't really interact with you. They call you with your lab results and they make you feel like you're a bother when you call. They knew nothing about the reason I was doing IVF and kept indicating that I was infertile. I was not. I did this for genetic testing.
How was your experience with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Dr. Danzer completely mislead me to convince me to do IVF with him and then he failed to deliver on his promises. From the beginning, I did not have infertility issues. I did IVF to eliminate a dominant gene from being passed down. Dr. Danzer kept telling I will have plenty of embryos after one round and not to worry. I had 34 follicles when we began treatment, I was 28 years old, and I had absolutely 0 signs of any health issues or infertility whatsoever. I am an IVF clinic dream patient. Mr partner completed a semen analysis and Dr. Danzer said his semen was "in the top 10% of semen [he has] ever seen." Dr. Danzer started my treatment by loading me up on 300 units of Gonal F and 75 units of menopur to begin treatment, failing to consider my age, health, lack of infertility issues, etc. I was on stimulants for I think 13 days!!!! At retrieval, Dr. Danzer removed 20 eggs. Of those eggs, 15 fertilized and only 5 became blastocycts! After genetic testing, we had 1 fair quality embryo left. This is the result of Dr. Danzer's promises of "plenty of embryos." Not to mention, Dr. Danzer convinced me to pay thousands of dollars additional for the embryoscopy because "we would have so many options and it would be good to know which ones are the best quality to transfer." We had ONE embryo and every other clinic has since told me that they do not even offer embryoscopy because they are almost useless these days. We had a fatal gene that we were trying to avoid passing down. We had so many people chip in to help us pay for Dr. Danzer and his result for a fertile, very healthy 28 year old woman was one fair quality embryo. I am SO upset. 20 follicles retrieved, 19 mature, 15 fertilized, 5 blastocysts, 1 fair quality embryo all while promising "plenty of embryos." Again, I had 0 fertility issues and was a 28 year old extremely healthy person. After recovery from the devastation from SCRC and Dr. Danzer, months later I decided to go to Dr. Marrs at California Fertility Partners. Dr. Marrs comforted me to let me know it is still very likely that I will be able to have plenty of embryos. Despite being scarred by Dr. Danzer, I trusted Dr. Marrs and gave it a shot. Dr. Marrs was ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC. He retrieved 35 follicles, 30 of which fertilized, 16 became blastocysts and they are now off to genetic testing. Can you please recognize the difference in quality between these two doctors? 5 embryos to testing from SRCR and Dr. Danzer vs. 16 at a later round with California Fertility Partners and Dr. Marrs is a completely different result. I actually have a real shot at having healthy babies now. It is also important to note that SCRC has two floors: One floor for blood work and one level for doctors and retrieval. I barely saw Dr. Danzer. I went in every other day for blood work and ultrasounds and only saw nurses and ultrasound technicians. At California Fertility Partners, I saw a doctor every time I came to the office and everything is handled on the same floor as to not make you feel like the doctors are (literally) above you and unreachable. Choosing an IVF clinic is so difficult. Please don't make my mistake a waste over $30,000 with SCRC and Dr. Danzer.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Leave and go to California Fertility Partners with Dr. Marrs where you are treated with a plan customized to your body and needs.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
First of all, I think I met Dr. Danzer a total of three times in person. Once to convince me to do IVF with him, once to tell me to start my cycle, and once for retrieval procedure. The doctor I went to after Dr. Danzer, Dr. Marrs with California Fertility Partners, saw me EVERY TIME I came into the office and Dr. Marrs personally did every ultrasound. To the contrary, the ultrasound technicians are the ones who see you at SCRC, not even the doctors. The doctors aren't even on the same floor as you for the majority of your visits. I felt completely segregated from my doctor for the whole experience with SCRC. Dr. Danzer had me come into the clinic every other day for ultrasounds and blood work during my stims. He saw me three, maybe four times total. At California Fertility Clinic, Dr. Marrs personally walked me through the whole IVF process and personally spent time with me at every appointment and personally did my ultrasounds and measured the follicles. SCRC and Dr. Danzer kept referring to our matter as infertility, even though I reminded them every time I was in the office that I do not have infertility issues, but rather I did IVF to eliminate a dominate gene through genetic testing.
Describe the protocols Hal Danzer used in your cycles at Southern California Reproductive Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Danzer loaded me up with Gonal F at 300 units and Menopur at 75 units. I was 28, 34 follicles, and no infertility issues. He completed diminished the quality of my follicles. He later dropped my Gonal F, but it was too late. He ruined my cycle.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Southern California Reproductive Center.
The nursing staff doesn't really interact with you. They call you with your lab results and they make you feel like you're a bother when you call. They knew nothing about the reason I was doing IVF and kept indicating that I was infertile. I was not. I did this for genetic testing.
Describe your experience with Southern California Reproductive Center.
SCRC is a machine and cranked me through on a drug protocol that was not at all tailored to my needs. You mainly interact with ultrasound technicians and the nurses who draw your blood. Dr. Danzer barely saw me. I know this is wrong because at California Fertility Partners, Dr. Marrs saw me at every visit and personally conducted my ultrasounds. This is the service that we all deserve, not the neglect from SCRC.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
I don't remember, but Dr. Danzer and SCRC were more expensive than Dr. Marrs and California Fertility Partners.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Southern California Reproductive Center.
I spent hours trying to get SCRC to work with in insurance. They always had different people calling me telling me different information, failing to respond for days at a time. It was so frustrating. They also kept mentioning infertility related to my procedure. I was and am NOT infertile. I went to SCRC to accomplish genetic testing to eliminate a dangerous dominant gene. Also- after biopsy, I specifically instructed SCRC to have the embryos tested for genetic issues prior to chromosomal errors because we aren't going to use genetically flawed embryos. They completed disregarded my request and sent the biopsies to the lab to have chromosome testing and mutant gene testing done at the same time. THE LAB CHARGES FOR EACH TEST! There was 0 reason to test our embryos with mutant genes for chromosomal errors because we wouldn't transfer them anyways! I told the lab this and they forced me to pay for each and every test order from SCRC, despite the testing being unnecessary and costing me THOUSANDS of dollars more.

Dr danzer is such a caring person and spent a lot of time with me answering questions and explaining things—but only exactly what was coming next so as not to overload me with information, which I appreciated...the protocol was changing based on frequent testing to ensure I had the best chances of success...I had a previous traumatic miscarriage of twins followed by 3 failed IUIs so I was very emotional throughout, and I felt very cared for and reassured...
This place [Southern California Reproductive Center] is run so well, it’s super organized...There was one instance where the clinic forgot to call in medication but it was easily dealt with...It’s definitely a shiny slick place which tbh made me suspicious, but the care was wonderful. The staff aside from nurses was nice and seemed very happy and like they enjoyed working at scrc. I never had to wait too long...
How was your experience with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Danzer is an extremely caring doctor who is great at explaining things, parsing our information so as not to overwhelm, and keeping in touch and making his team available to answer questions. I didn’t want to leave after my pregnancy was deemed viable, because he treated me with so much more care, education and attention than my OB

Describe Hal Danzer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
Danzer had a strong preference to transfer just one embryo which was aligned with my research and my husband and my expectations. I had 2 embryos so was happy to only transfer one so we have the second in case we want to use it down the line.

Dr. Danzer is a wonderful mix between compassionate doctor and knowledgeable & experienced professional...He walks the line well between enthusiasm & sober reality of percentages...I appreciate that he’s rather humble...He won’t have time in appointments to explain every detail of all of the ART possibilities, he’ll tell you what he recommends. If there’s something you don’t know, he does a good job of answering questions...
Cost for ultrasounds, IUI & injection drug [at Southern California Reproductive Center] reasonable for the LA area. Less than what my gynecologist quoted me...The lobby is clean & modern. The reception is good...Nice clean bathrooms. It’s not cosy feeling, but it’s clean...nurses are wonderful & front desk staff have done a great job too...Great nursing staff, especially Debbie. She had a great manner & is well organized. Shaterika has been very kind & enthusiastic too. Very mindful of our time. Good Ultasound techs too.
How was your experience with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Dr. Danzer is a wonderful mix between compassionate doctor and knowledgeable & experienced professional. I appreciate his delicate position as a fertility doctor, where there are no absolutes. He walks the line well between enthusiasm & sober reality of percentages. I have been recommending him to friends. I don’t see an egotistical motivation in Dr. Danzer & I appreciate that he’s rather humble & conserves his words.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Read their website info, educate yourself before & during your time in his care. He won’t have time in appointments to explain every detail of all of the ART possibilities, he’ll tell you what he recommends. If there’s something you don’t know, he does a good job of answering questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Dr. Danzer does a good job of listening to questions, answering thoughtfully & taking action as he sees fit. I trust his knowledge is very strong & I appreciate his & his nurse’s enthusiasm for our journey. Hi nurses are wonderful & front desk staff have done a great job too.
Describe the protocols Hal Danzer used in your cycles at Southern California Reproductive Center and their degree of success.
Taking Levothyroxine for my Thryroid to get labs in the right place months in advance. Taking Vitamin D supplement & DHEA 75mg daily. IVF recommended, but so far I can’t afford it as a student. Will keep trying to get a loan later after I’ve started a new job. Took Clomid for 5 days & 1 trigger shot, 2-3 transvaginal ultrasounds before IUI. My fiancé had a sperm wash morning of IUI. Only the 1st IUI, I understand many couples do 3-6 generally. So I’m not deterred that we had a negative result. Will keep trying & be receptive to new life.

The lobby is clean & modern. The reception is good. The waiting room music could use some more thought though. I personally can’t stand what I call “depressing piano music.” It’s better when they play chinese flute & meditation music. I know music is so personal, but I find it hard to imagine other people like depressing music while waiting nervously for appointments. All else is good in the clinic. Nice clean bathrooms. It’s not cosy feeling, but it’s clean.

The nurse had an issue with calling in a prescription (not sure if forgot or a technical issue.) but it wasn’t crucial to my treatment. I got it same day after calling in a day later to check on it. That was 1 time of many prescriptions that were done on time, so it doesn’t bother me.

I always felt like I was in good hands with Dr. Danzer! He always explained everything to me, made me feel at ease and hopeful. I never had any doubts in him. His Protocols were effective and didn't leave me feeling horrendous like some other doctors/protocols. Even though we didn't achieve the hope for results, the experience wasn't terrible...Be aware that he is extremely busy, so his time may be limited and access impossible.
There are a lot of Nurses that work for each doctor [at Southern California Reproductive Center] so it is hard to get personal with any of them, in what feels like the most personal procedure out there. It feels somewhat like a meat market, with so many patients in the waiting room. Be prepared to wait for 1+ hours to get blood-work and your ultrasound, each time. Though once done, you can leave and then wait for a phone call from the main Nurse. Facilities are bright and beautiful and feel very luxurious. Waiting rooms are comfortable, with TV's, magazines and an area with Coffee, Tea and Water. All examination rooms feel sophisticated and clean.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Southern California Reproductive Center. (Assigned nurse: Debbie Harrison, RN)
The staff at SCRC BH were very helpful when it came to teaching me how to administer the medications. The technicians performing blood-work and Ultrasounds were really sweet and lovely. The Doctors nurses at the doctors station, were nice and for the most part well organised but did not go above normal standards. No gifted samples, no extra kindness, would take long to respond to emails and calls.

Highly organised, which is practical but not always coddling or comforting, feels a little factory-like. I would have a window between 7am and 11am, to go for blood-work and ultrasounds. Even though the waits would be of 1+ hours, it was convenient most of the time. Wasn't made to wait around once I was done with the tests, I could go home and instructions would be given to me then!

Success w/ Doc Not sure
Dr. Danzer was kind and personable, but I had very little interaction with him. I also feel that my protocol and care was standardized, not personalized... I was okay with a more straight-forward approach, the results were more important to me than bedside manner. However, I would have liked a bit more personal experience and reflection on our specific case...A couple of times, I had to request to meet with him personally, which was arranged.
I feel a bit conflicted about Dr. Danzer's nurses [at Southern California Reproductive Center]. They were warm enough, and I appreciated their timely email responses. But they made several MAJOR errors I had to catch, once with my calendar and another with calling in the correct dosage of meds to my pharmacy. I have heard many other women complain about this same issue. I'm not sure how there have not been more serious consequences for some of the mistakes. I will say, they were always present and available to speak with me at my appointment times. Initially, it was hard to get a hold of them when outside of the office. But then I built a good relationship with one of the nurses, and I think that made a difference.
How was your experience with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
As I mentioned, Dr. Danzer was kind and personable, but I had very little interaction with him. I also feel that my protocol and care was standardized, not personalized. I did have great trust in Dr. Danzer, that he knew what he was doing (his history and notariety speak for themselves) and that he would obtain the best results he could for us. I was okay with a more straight-forward approach, the results were more important to me than bedside manner. However, I would have liked a bit more personal experience and reflection on our specific case.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Definitely advocate for yourself, especially with his support staff. And I would try to build as much of a relationship with Dr. Danzer as possible early on. Try to get in front of him, when you can. A couple of times, I had to request to meet with him personally, which was arranged. I think that is helpful. Also, find one friend within his team - that helped us immensely.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
I admit, I did not expect to receive amazing personal care going in to SCRC. I had always been happy with my interactions with the doctors and liked the office when I visited, but I knew it was a popular/busy office and I had heard other feedback that it is a somewhat business-like environment. Dr. Danzer was kind and personable, but I had very little interaction with him. I also feel that my protocol and care was standardized, not personalized. Describe the protocols Hal Danzer used in your cycles at Southern California Reproductive Center and their degree of success.
Dr. Danzer used a standardized protocol - birth control pills, followed by an antagonist approach of Gonal F (primary) and Menopur (secondary), with Cetrotide and trigger at time of egg retrieval. We have not moved on to the transfer cycle with him yet, so not sure of his protocol there. I felt pretty fine on the medication. The staff met with me for instruction, and offered a helpful website with videos. Because of my age, he did hit me with higher dosages. I was unsure of this, at the time, but now feel that might have been the right way to go. I ended up having to be on the meds for two extra days, for response growth. I came in for ultrasounds and blood draws every other morning. My egg retrieval went smoothly, however I did end up having slight OHSS about one week later. It cleared up the following week. We were happy with our results at first, then a bit disappointed. Retrieved 20, but less than half fertilized. We did send most off for genetic screening, but the majority were abnormal. Dr. Danzer did offer good education on our results, which I appreciated.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
This was definitely not an inexpensive clinic, but I knew that going in. We were paying for the best. Both Dr. Danzer and the clinic/lab have stellar scores, no question. I was happy with the fact that the clinic did try to find us savings, where possible. I don't know that I would go so far as to say they worked with our budget, but they did try to get us some discounts.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Southern California Reproductive Center.
Any issues were mainly with the nursing team. As I mentioned, I caught two significant discrepancies, one with my calendar and visit/med timing and the other with the med dosage called in to my pharmacy. There was varied confusion at other times, but these were the two main items.

He [Dr. Danzer] is very knowledgeable and changes course as needed based on your response to treatment. I trusted him and felt I was getting the treatment I was expecting. I felt like he knew my case and paid attention to me beyond just the standard protocol. He also was straight forward with me regarding my options and treatment plan. He consulted other doctors in the clinic as well to get their opinions on my treatment.
Clinic [So Cal Repro Ctr] is great and the surgery center is next to the clinic. ... I loved the ultrasound techs and lab techs. So gentle and kind. They had early hours which were really helpful since I was working full time throughout treatment and this allowed me to attend work without interruptions for monitoring appointments. ... The nursing staff often made mistakes to my instructions and were hard to get in touch with. Some of the nurses were great and some were not. I had to be a squeaky wheel to get their attention.

Have trust in your doctor but be your own self advocate.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Sometimes had trouble reaching his nursing team but Dr. Danzer was always available when needed to discuss treatment plans, progress, results, next steps
Describe the protocols Hal Danzer used in your cycles at Southern California Reproductive Center and their degree of success.
For retrievals I did birth control followed by menopur and follistim and added ganirelix part way through. I used an hcg trigger my first retrieval and a lupron trigger for my second retrieval. I did a transfer with birth control, Medrol, estrace, pio injections, and progesterone suppositories. I did the same for the ERA. We changed the injection time for pio for the second transfer to be exact based on the ERA.

Describe Hal Danzer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
My doctor preferred to transfer one embryo especially since they were pgd and pgs tested and we did not want to risk multiples so we selected a single embryo for each transfer.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Southern California Reproductive Center.
The nurses were not always on the same page as the doctor and got confused easily. This was remedied by contacting them and questioning them before it was too late.

Dr. Danzer was very warm and kind. What really stood out was his positive attitude. He kept saying things like “call me in two weeks with the positive pregnancy news!” “WHEN, not if you get pregnant.” I appreciated that. But I don’t feel he was aggressive enough or gave me enough options due to my age....There was a discrepancy with my vitamin D and I was told to take more. Then I was told by another doctor that I had a toxic level of vitamin D in my system.
The waiting room [Southern California Reproductive Center] is like a cattle call. I was also left in a room for 45 minutes after my first IUI after I was told someone would come get me. I finally got up, got dressed and walked out only to find all the lights were out and the whole office was having a staff meeting! And left me in a room for nearly an hour. I was very upset.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Be an advocate for yourself- it’s hard to get through to the clinic and if you have questions it’s ok to push for answers. Also, allow a loooooong time in the waiting room!

Describe your experience with Southern California Reproductive Center.
Just felt like a cattle call there. Very impersonal and it was so hard to get questions answered in a timely manner. I’m also still getting bills two years later for things I thought were paid in full.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
Extremely expensive.

They also left me in a room after an IUI and I saw myself out after nearly an hour, to find the office shut down for a staff meeting. When you’re scared and alone and feeling the most vulnerable, that was a horrible feeling to be forgotten.

Best reproductive doctor I found in Los Angeles, my only regret is not going to him first....Dr Danzer offers patient centered care that is unique to each couple. He gives accurate information, helping people make educated decisions in their treatment.
[Southern California Reproductive Center is a ] modern, efficient, busy clinic, housing lab, surgery center, and doctor's offices in one location....A biopsy was done on our embryos without our consent, and I found out after the fact. Somewhere there was a breakdown in communication, which was frustrating at the time.

[Dr. Hal Danzer] spoke to me about my options, felt like him and his staff really cared about my situation...explained every step of the egg freezing process in a way that I could understand and let me know what to expect. He seems to know a great deal about his field and made me feel very comfortable throughout...a lot of documents to read on my own online but still very helpful. A patient without medical background might find some of it hard to read.
staff [at Southern California Reproductive Center] really cared about my situation...The nursing staff was very warm and compassionate. I really appreciated the way they tended to my needs, I felt like a VIP client...$8000 for one cycle + $2750 for 5 years storage $4000 for medication...Strengths - all procedures were well explained, facilities very nice, staff also very amiable and helpful Weaknesses - a lot of documents to read on my own online but still very helpful. A patient without medical background might find some of it hard to read.

Dr Danzer’s experience and compassion was evident during my entire cycle. He was very present and wonderful during the transfer process. The appointments up until the egg retrieval are handled mostly by nurses...exceptional at the transfer process in particular. Helping to select to the best embryo option and working to ensure the implantation was successful. His team helped me navigate the complicated world of insurance for my prescriptions, which I greatly appreciated...
The nurses [at Southern California Reproductive Center] were wonderful. However the process leading up to the egg retrieval is done by a different team (on its own floor of the building) and it can feel disconnected from the clinical team. Once you are at the embryo transfer stage the clinical team is very engaged and the appointments are with the doctor directly....

Again, the separate nurses doing the ultrasounds before the egg retrieval appointments would be the only issue. At each appointment feedback is delayed a bit, because a doctor needs to review results and call you back. However the process after the egg retrieval is great and the communication becomes at the time of appointment. I believe the smooth transfer process helped lead to a successful pregnancy.
Describe Hal Danzer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
We only transferred one embryo and the doctor did not sway us one way or another. We only have 3-4 embryos, therefore it was understood if one didn’t take we would try on the others individually.

I had started with a different doctor at the same clinic who I adored, but I wasn't getting results. After 3 retrievals we finally got 2 fertilized embryos, but then we couldn't get my uterine lining ready for the transfer...she had me consult with Dr. Danzer..thought I might do better without medication. So we tried a natural cycle with no injections...It worked perfectly and I'm now pregnant...just some pills and vaginal suppositories of progesterone. Nurse Nurse
Most of the nursing staff [at Southern California Reproductive Center] I liked a lot, but the primary nurse for Dr. Danzer didn't seem to care all that much. I felt like my questions annoyed her...felt like my regular ultrasound technician Amanda and all the lab people were rooting for me and genuinely cared about what happened to me. Some other staff members don't bond with the patients as much, but overall I felt like I was in great hands and I'll actually miss seeing a lot of the people over there.
How was your experience with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Dr. Danzer really listened to all my concerns and took a complete medical history. He paid attention and I never felt rushed. I really appreciated his bedside manner. It was easier for me to get questions answered in person rather than over the phone, but I never had trouble getting an appointment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
If you feel he hasn't answered your question, ask for clarification. I think some patients don't want as much detail as I did so he starts with the simple answer, but will explain further if you ask him to.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Hal Danzer at Southern California Reproductive Center?
Dr. Danzer always took the time to answer my questions and returned phone calls promptly. He also attended my ultrasounds personally instead of just reviewing the results afterwards. I always felt like he listened and cared.

Most of the nursing staff I liked a lot, but the primary nurse for Dr. Danzer didn't seem to care all that much. I felt like my questions annoyed her. That was just one person though, the others were great. And when I was working with Dr. Alexander I adored her staff and really felt like they were personally invested in what happened to me.
Describe your experience with Southern California Reproductive Center.
The clinic on the whole was great. I joined the extended program because Ari in particular is fantastic and I loved being able to text her any time. I also felt like my regular ultrasound technician Amanda and all the lab people were rooting for me and genuinely cared about what happened to me. Some other staff members don't bond with the patients as much, but overall I felt like I was in great hands and I'll actually miss seeing a lot of the people over there.

I had several failed attempts at the clinic before seeing Dr. Danzer, and each of those cost money, so it was very expensive.
Describe Hal Danzer's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Southern California Reproductive Center.
In my case because I only had 2 embryos, Dr. Danzer recommended we only transfer one, so if it didn't work we'd be able to try again.
