The only challenges stemmed from coordination issues, particularly with Elizabeth, our financial 'advisor' Initial Challenges From the very start, we encountered difficulties with Elizabeth, who missed her initial appointment with us, leaving us feeling disregarded and unimportant. This set the tone for ongoing coordination issues, including: -Being promised a significant military discount, only to learn it wouldn’t be honored. -Being charged $1,950 upfront for services that turned out to be covered, and then being told we had to navigate the lengthy process of requesting a refund ourselves. Shared Risk Program Concerns: Elizabeth’s lack of familiarity with the details of our Shared Risk Program had been a significant source of frustration. She failed to account for key elements, including the fact that the program doesn’t cover embryo banking after a successful pregnancy. As we neared graduation from the program and plan to return for another embryo transfer in the future, her inconsistent communication has raised concerns about whether our embryos will be securely stored as planned. Contradictory Information: One of the most frustrating aspects has been Elizabeth’s contradictory statements regarding the preauthorization process for cryopreservation. Initially, she refused to process a preauthorization, citing irrelevant contractual clauses. Later, she reversed her stance without explanation, leaving us confused and mistrustful. Taking matters into our own hands, we contacted Blue Cross directly and discovered: -Cryopreservation is a covered, one-time benefit. -Dr. Shah is in-network. -Providers simply need to submit the required form with estimated costs and a justification for services. Additionally, Blue Cross confirmed they had already received five charges from Shady Grove, contradicting Elizabeth’s claim that services couldn’t be billed to insurance. Final Thoughts Despite the challenges, we are incredibly grateful for the medical care we received, especially from Dr. Shah. However, the administrative hurdles were a consistent source of stress during an already emotionally charged process. For new patients, my advice is to advocate for yourself, ask lots of questions, and confirm everything—especially if you’re working with a financial 'advisor'. While the medical team at Shady Grove Fertility is phenomenal, there’s room for improvement in coordination and communication with admin.
