He [Dr. Hotaling] was being very relatable and personable. He understood my husbands situation. His case is so rare that Hotaling was literally the only person in the state who could help my husband.... He told us that he read my husband's medical history. Asked some questions. He said we would have to do a semen analysis even though he knew it would be hard so he was thinking that the sperm might be in the urine.
The clinic [U of Utah] may not accept your insurance. That was the problem with us. We had to pay things out of pocket. They were understanding and let us use a credit card. They were organized and knew my husband's medical history. We didn't have to repeat ourselves to multiple people. They had a detailed survey for us to take to help figure out what was going on.... Our cost was about $500-$1000 for the consultation, tests and labs. We need another 2400 for the sperm extraction.

He was very nice and discreet. Good bed side manner. Did not make things feel awkward. He understood our situation and that it was impossible for us to get pregnant without his help due to male factor.

He told us that he read my husband's medical history. Asked some questions. He said we would have to do a semen analysis even though he knew it would be hard so he was thinking that the sperm might be in the urine. If not we were going to have to do a blood test to see if his body was making sperm. If that was positive then he would have to do a sperm extraction. That's what we are waiting for next so we can move forward with IVF.
