Success w/ Doc Too early to know
Dr. Chiang is very personable and our appointments with her never felt rushed. She took the time to go through all IUI or IVF steps and answer any questions we had. She was open to tweaking my FET protocol based on concerns about potential autoimmune issues that I had and explained the benefits/risks of those changes...she wants you to feel in control of your treatment, but sometimes my husband and I had just wished that she, as the doctor, would make a firm decision.
The [Conceptions Reproductive Associates] clinic is good about keeping you updated as to your next steps and providing calendars that outline when you will be taking which meds and when you'll have appointments. The weakness-- sometimes it just feels like a well-oiled machine with little compassion...The nursing staff isn't always the best at communicating. Again, you have to be on top of things
How was your experience with Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
Dr. Chiang is very personable and our appointments with her never felt rushed. She took the time to go through all IUI or IVF steps and answer any questions we had. She was open to tweaking my FET protocol based on concerns about potential autoimmune issues that I had and explained the benefits/risks of those changes. You still have to do your own research and come in with your own questions though. Dr. Chiang can sometimes feel "wishy-washy" about decisions. Perhaps, she wants you to feel in control of your treatment, but sometimes my husband and I had just wished that she, as the doctor, would make a firm decision.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
Come prepared having done your own research, knowing your body, and with a list of questions.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
We rarely meet with or hear from Dr. Chiang throughout treatment. However, when we have met with her for a consult and two re-groups, she is very kind and friendly. Twice, I've emailed her with questions and she always gets back to us within the same day with very thorough responses.
Describe the protocols Jasmine Chiang used in your cycles at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates and their degree of success.
We did two IUI cycles with letrozole and a trigger shot. She chose letrozole for me based on high-ish antral follicle counts during my baseline testing. Each cycle produced two mature sized follicles; however, neither cycle resulted in pregnancy. We've completed one egg retrieval cycle. Dr. Chiang had me on a pretty standard protocol with gonal-f, menopur, etc. I stim'd for a pretty short amount of time and during our re-group, Dr. Chiang said I should have stim'd for one more day, which may have helped more of my eggs mature. I know the first round the doctors are getting to know how your body responds, but it was disappointing. Who made the call for me to trigger so soon?
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates. (Assigned nurse: Alex Lee)
The nursing staff isn't always the best at communicating. Again, you have to be on top of things. I'm glad I spoke up when my egg retrieval calendar didn't look right, because sure enough my nurse had gotten my cycle day 1 wrong. I also emailed a question to my nurse at another point during my egg retrieval cycle and got a one sentence response that didn't actually answer my questions-- as if she read my email too quickly. Things like that were frustrating.
Describe your experience with RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
The clinic is good about keeping you updated as to your next steps and providing calendars that outline when you will be taking which meds and when you'll have appointments. The weakness-- sometimes it just feels like a well-oiled machine with little compassion. No one wants to be going through fertility treatments. Many of the appointments are nerve wracking. Compassion would go a long way. It was the rare nurse or ultrasound tech that was actually personable and made the endless appointments better.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
Our IUI cycles were partially covered by insurance, so we paid about $500 per cycle. IVF was not covered at all and we will pay about $25,000 (including medications) for one full cycle.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
I was told by Dr. Chiang that I did not need to take vitamin D as my level was good. The next day, I was told by my FET nurse that I should take vitamin D even if my level was good. In the long run, it's a supplement and not a big deal, but it was frustrating to get two different messages.

We very much appreciated that Dr Chiang was upfront about our success rate - she clearly didn't want to give us false hope and explained us all options well. We never felt pressured, talked into something or not well informed when we decided to move ahead. Once we started she was very supportive, great in explaining the processes, available for questions and happy with us along the way when there was good progress
[Conceptions Reproductive Associates] Strengths: Dr. Chiang was great! The ladies at the front desk...each time I went there and called: super, super friendly, always a smile! Lab Personal & ultrasound technician: they were all super friendly... FET nurse was great! Weaknesses: IVF nurses: rather impersonal, partially unprofessional (didn't put in all RXs for meds, gave OK for cycle despite COVID diagnosis). ONLINE PORTAL: oh boy...ANCIENT!!! needs badly an update Scheduling department: twice the scheduling department was supposed to reach out to me for making an appointment - twice they didn't. Each time I ended up calling by myself.

Be ready to face the truth - she will tell you the truth - which is great.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
Dr. Chiang was great - she was very upfront about our chances of success, very straight forward in her approach, explained procedures and options well and she was very supportive throughout the entire time.
Describe the protocols Jasmine Chiang used in your cycles at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates and their degree of success.
We did 3 rounds of egg retrieval as the reason for infertility was diminished ovarian reserve. We knew upfront that the chances of success were only 11% so my husband and I aligned upfront that we would go for 3 egg retrieval cycles but no more. Since you have to start your second (and third) cycle before you know the outcome of the previous cycle we went through with all three cycles. Out of the 3 cycles we got one healthy embryo from the 2nd round. We did get fertilized embryos from the 1st and 3rd cycle too, however, none made it to day 5.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
My IVF nurse was okay. She responded fast via email and she was friendly on the phone but it was all very impersonal. During our 3 IVF cycles various nurses would get in touch with us for instructions. VERY FRUSTRATING was following situation: on the day I was supposed to start the shots for my 2nd egg retrieval round I got a positive COVID result. I had pretty severe symptoms and I talked to one of the nurses if it would be still okay to start the treat or if it would be better to wait. The nurse gave me the "go ahead" and so I started. By the time I had to get my first ultrasound I was miserable and they sent me home right away. I had to cancel the cycle and they told me I should have never started it in first place as having COVID impacts the outcome negatively. I then had to request for refund for medication etc. etc.... I wish that nurse would have consulted with a doctor or her team before advising me! Also, for both, the second and third round of egg retrieval the nurses put in the order for the medication. Since I knew what drugs I needed from the first round I had to get back to them each time to ask them to give me the RX for ALL medications as both times some were missing. Not very professional. Last - my FET nurse - she was GREAT! Very responsive, kind and friendly. Big difference to the rather impersonal IVF nurses.
Describe your experience with RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
Strengths: Dr. Chiang was great! The ladies at the front desk - Michelle & Melissa - each time I went there and called: super, super friendly, always a smile! Lab Personal & ultrasound technician: they were all super friendly and though they really had no personal connection to you they seemed more personal than the IVF nursing staff. What specific things went wrong at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
  • Failed to call in prescriptions to pharmacy
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Failed to send your chart to another clinic
  • Canceled a cycle due to clinic error
Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
Already mentioned before: - not all RXs weren't put in at two cycles - nurse gave "OKAY" for starting cycle though I had COVID and the cycle needed to be cancelled after all - scheduling department didn't call to make appointments - results of genetic testing of embryo wasn't forwarded to OBGYN

Dr Chiang is both kind and considerate. She is still in the process of helping us reach out baby goals...She’s been absolutely amazing & so supportive of all the hiccups in our case & the poor timing of covid. We’re close now to having our first transfer with a donor embryo...Trust her judgment & know she’s in it for you & your family...she felt a donor embryo would be the better option as we just wanted a baby, period. So now we’re in the process of the mock transfer & getting ready to start hormone therapy. We’ve already reserved our embryo & she’s just waiting for the day like us
I don’t have any weaknesses for them [Conceptions Reproductive Associates]. Communication is great, the flow of steps they’re taking is well calculated & smooth. It’s definitely a well oiled machine. They know what they’re doing. I would say to a new patient to ask any kind of questions you have to the staff because they’re so kind and will figure out an answer for you...Through the whole process every aspect/team member has been kind & so well informed.

Because of my age, I have poor egg reserves, so the option was always a donor egg regime with my husband’s sperm. Then covid hit and everything kind of fell apart. Once we were able to go back she felt a donor embryo would be the better option as we just wanted a baby, period. So now we’re in the process of the mock transfer & getting ready to start hormone therapy. We’ve already reserved our embryo & she’s just waiting for the day like us 😊

$13,200 for a donor embryo transfer. Plus additional services if needed & medications.

The option is usually one but I would’ve preferred two as that is what he & I wanted but weren’t allowed that option.

Dr. Chiang explained everything so well I’m ways we could understand. She was very detailed and asked personal questions to get to know us. She helped us narrow down options and did not force anything on us...We are going to do all of the genetic testing and referred us to a Urologist to see if sperm extraction was possible. Then we are doing Donor consults and counseling to see what are our options would be to use that as a backup. They did an ultrasound to count my follicles. Everything was very detailed...
She [nurse at Conceptions Reproductive Associates] was so detailed and gave us honest feedback and opinions on the testing that would be best for us. She explained the next steps in detail and gave us a checklist and folder of everything we need to do and all do the contacts we needed...This clinic was very friendly and respectful...had a great set up and staff of others coordinating our care...

Dr. Chiang went over everything and addresses our questions and concerns in a term we could understand. She gave us a course of action and options. We have just been doing tests and more tests and been waiting for answers so to finally see someone who set the course of action was so comforting. She talked to us like she genuinely cared for our family and wanted to help us.

Dr. Chiang is incredibly kind and also professionally honest. We were scheduled to do an IUI but she called us to set up a consultation and let us know that my remaining ovary is not attached to a tube. We appreciated her honesty that an IUI probably wasn't the solution - she has been incredibly transparent throughout this process which I really appreciate.
My biggest gripe [about Conceptions Reproductive Associates] is billing. They are VERY shady and impossible to work with. I understand this is a business but navigating infertility is so stressful alone. I have nothing kind to say about the ladies in billing. The office staff, nurses, techs and Dr. Chiang have all been incredible.
How was your experience with Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
The biggest struggle with this entire process has been the money. Dr. Chiang is very good at explaining all of the options and how realistic they are on the medical side. We were unaware of our medication cost and were honestly derailed by that. Ideally clinics can give a range for medication cost. I wish Dr. Chiang had given us a number.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jasmine Chiang at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates?
Know what questions you want to ask! She appreciates it and is very good at answering. Also be firm with requesting a range for medication cost. They know the ballpark of what things are monetarily and what you may need.

Dr. Chiang listened carefully to our infertility story. She wanted to understand the type of family we wanted to build, and what we were willing to undergo to get there. At every step, she gave patient advice and empathetic responses to our concerns...In the end, of those 16 mature eggs, 14 fertilized, but only 2 made it all the way to the embryo state via successful cell division. Of those 2, only 1 was genetically normal. So we went from worrying we had too much, to being devastated we only had once chance.

Dr. Chiang is excellent and I really can't say enough good things about her. She is kind and compassionate. She listens well and makes you feel so personally cared for. She is smart, confident and practices evidence based medicine. I really appreciated how she explained studies and statistics to us.

Know what questions you want to ask because she will answer all your questions and give you valuable feedback. Know what your family building goals are and what you are willing or not willing to do to get there, because she will often ask you what you want to do/are willing to do next.

For IUI we used clomid, but I had a hyper-response to this resulting in a cancelled IUI cycle when I had too many follicles. We then switched to letrozole. Overall, we did 1 IUI with clomid, 1 cancelled IUI on clomid and 2 IUIs on letrozole. For IVF we did a down-regulation on lupron followed by estrogen pills/suppositories and progesterone IM shots.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates. (Assigned nurse: Cate Kopels )
At conceptions I had a different nurse for every phase: one primary nurse for IUI (Camille Rastrelli), on primary nurse for IVF/egg retrieval (Lindsay Dole) and one primary nurse for FET (Cate Kopels). Camille had wonderful bedside manner and was extremely compassionate, but was disorganized. For example, my medication calendar did not match the directions on the pill bottle when I got them. Lindsay was organized, but not compassionate. I found her to be pushy and impatient. I went through my hardest stage of infertility while under the care of this nurse: finding out I had polyps and having my entire FET cycle cancelled/delayed for surgery. I felt like Lindsay got annoyed when I was calling back and forth between Conceptions and my local OB trying to figure out where I could get in sooner for the surgery, whereas Dr. Chiang literally encouraged me to do my surgery with my local OB if that was more convenient for me. I felt like Dr. Chiang cared more about me than getting the money from my surgery and Lindsay only cared that my indecision/checking into all my options was causing more work for her. Lindsay would often send one sentence emails back to my paragraph long emails, usually only answering one of my maybe 3 questions and completely ignoring the rest. Cate was extremely variable. When I had first trimester bleeding, I felt like she was so compassionate. When I started getting my labs drawn locally so that I would not have to drive the 2 total hours for a 5min blood draw (which was an option offered to me by another nurse at the clinic) she seemed defensive and annoyed saying things to me like, quote "I am not privy to every conversation that you have" when I said another nurse told me I could do this as well as sending me snappy one sentence emails about how much work it was for her to track down my labs results.
Describe your experience with RMA of Colorado - Conceptions Reproductive Associates.
Strength is that we got pregnant on our very first FET with this clinic. Another strength is that they were very responsive when we had to call the emergency RN line for a medication question. Con is that everything seems to take forever at this clinic and I think that's because a good end result is more important to them than time. You have been your own patient advocate here. There are many many appointment where you only see the phlebotomist and the US tech and leave. Maybe you get to talk to a nurse. Maybe not even your nurse or one who knows your case. My doctor was excellent so I felt well prepared here. The two times I didn't feel fully prepared was 1) when we had forms given to us with extremely serious questions like "what do you want to do with frozen embryos if your spouse dies? Can they use them with a new partner?" thrown at us with a demand for a 24hr turn around to getting the form back and 2) going into our egg retrieval. We didn't know that they would be collecting both mature and immature eggs under the chance that some might appear more mature under the microscope. We were told by the other doctor who did our retrieval as I was waking up from anesthesia that we got 24 eggs with no other contextual information. We were shocked and almost upset like "what are we going to do with 13 embryos?!" We felt like morally we wouldn't have wanted to create that many had our values and wishes been further discussed. It wasn't until our first embryology update phone call that we learned we actually only got 16 mature eggs. In the end, of those 16 mature eggs, 14 fertilized, but only 2 made it all the way to the embryo state via successful cell division. Of those 2, only 1 was genetically normal. So we went from worrying we had too much, to being devastated we only had once chance. We didn't feel like we were prepared for such a poor outcome. Now that I follow lots of fertility social media accounts, I can see that having to do more than one egg retrieval is very common in IVF. We didn't really know that going in. We ultimately chose not to cycle again and did get pregnant with our one embryo. I wonder if I had been better prepared that most women have to cycle more than once, if I would've been more willing to do it?
