Overall I was pleased with the care we received. Dr Attaman is very knowledgeable. She doesn’t always provide a lot of additional information at appointments so you have to ask questions but when you do she always answers them with good insight and detail. Ask questions, and if you feel like you need more time to go over things make another appointment with her, even if it is a 15 min telephone call.

Overall Dr Attaman always took time to explain treatment options and answer any questions I had. She was always prepared going into appointments knowing my history, etc. Very empathetic and calm.

Describe the protocols Jill Attaman used in your cycles at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center and their degree of success.

Due to our specific infertility diagnosis we jumped right to IVF. Used pretty typical antagonist protocol, which unfortunately resulted in a canceled fresh transfer. We had another canceled modified natural cycle (nothing she did, just things didn’t cooperate), then successful fully medicated cycle.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center.

Overall I found the nurse’s very organized and timely. They always called when they were suppose to (communicate results, med adjustments, next steps). Overall kind and caring. However I did have a few less than ideal interactions including someone who was clearly rushing, and another with someone audibly annoyed when I was upset about a canceled cycle.

Overall I found it very easy to communicate with them. Scheduling appointment was easy. However our financial coordinate was very, very difficult to work with. I would request to work with someone different in the future. She was very disorganized, did not respond in a timely manner, and made multiple mistakes including documenting critical information in the wrong patients chart.

I believe egg retrieval with ICSI was about $17K and frozen transfer was $6K. I don’t know the cost for canceled cycle. We were very fortunate and had excellent insurance coverage for this.

It was our preference for a single embryo transfer, which she was supportive of. We also had “good” quality embryos.

Describe the protocols Jill Attaman used in your cycles at Massachusetts General Hospital and their degree of success.

We started with medicated cycles with CLOMID and Ovidrel for IUIs based on my age. Dr Attaman decided that time was of the essence since I had turned 40. I was referred to a MFM specialist to assess risks based on age and medical conditions. Unfortunately all IUIS were unsuccessful and Dr Attaman was thinking on switching to IVF when some fibroids were discovered inside of the uterus cavity likely to require removal before proceeding with treatments. Scheduled to see a reproductive surgeon in May 2022.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Everybody was always kind and compassionate. There could sometimes be a slight delay in communication but as far as I am concerned nothing ever fell through the cracks. So overall I am satisfied with the level of care I received.

Advocate for yourself. Remember everything Dr. Attaman tells you, because it might not be conveyed to your nurse. There were several times I had to ask if something was right, because it seemed different to what Dr. Attaman initially told us (and then they changed course after I questioned them)

We never actually met with Dr. Attaman or the nurses in person due to COVID19. We dealt with a bunch of different nurses who were super disorganized. There were a bunch of mistakes - I was given the wrong prescription, not told I needed a prescription until hours before I needed to do an injection (and then needing to drive a speciality pharmacy 45 minutes away on Christmas Eve), etc.

We did 4 rounds of IUI (all paid out of pocket) because our insurance didn't cover any fertility treatment and IVF was out of our price range. We ended up going through with 3 cycles, one was cancelled because I had too many follicles.

I got very few details from the nurses - no one ever told me how many follicles I had, how big they were, etc - just "come back on X day." They also forgot to tell me about medications I needed, sent in the wrong prescription (for double the dosage I needed), and were in general disorganized.

I felt like she didn't care and didn't answer my questions easily. I'm not sure if them merging with Boston IVF was playing a role in this...We did Gonal F, which is very expensive. There was one other injection to but I can't remember. We did the trigger shot and the retrieval in Lexington. We did genetic testing this time which is costly. Unfortunately the three embryos that did test came back all abnormal.

I felt that burlington office was nice, but the schedule was inflexible. I thought it was confusing to have to go to other locations. I went to Welseley only because I didn't want to drive into Boston...I was waiting for the genetic testing of the embryos to come back. They were back and Jill Attaman did not call me. I had to create a little drama with the staff to get her on the phone to call me with the results (which I had already waited 2 weeks).

Jill Attaman was too busy for me. Even her staff commented several times on how busy she was. Also they are merging with Boston IVF, so I felt I was always being shifted around.

At the Burlington location it was Chris. She was lovely but all by herself so it was often left leaving messages. I often got routed to the Wellesley location to speak to others to. It was very confusing who to call. Then on weekends it was to call Kenmore location to, which was odd and very hard to get through.

This part was the nightmare! We were denied from Blue Cross Blue Shield. They denied me on an old test from another doctor I was not seeing. The very information they denied me for was from a past cycle they approved. Jill Attaman although supported me I feel should could have worked harder to help appeal the decision. The cycle was incomplete because we did the genetic testing . We had no transfer, which would have cost more. When I paid for the cycle the accountant said I was all Set but the transfer was never paid for and I thought it was because she said I was all paid in full.

She was kind and compassionate, and due to all our trouble conceiving, she was thinking about us and always searching for other options or second opinions from her peers if she didn't know what the best next steps were. We initially started treatments with my husband being the problem and discovered along the way that I was also the problem. ... we were told that the process would never be successful for us. ... Attempted a “fire” round of fertility drugs in an attempt to be as aggressive as possible to get my ovaries to produce eggs. ... I felt like she [Dr. Attaman] offered no attempt at answering any of my legitimate women’s health concerns, but instead offered info for adoption or surrogacy.

After I was told that they [Harvard Vanguard] could do nothing more for me, I actually reached back out to them about natural cycle fertility treatments I had heard about since my body was unresponsive to the fertility treatments, I was simply told they did not do that and that was all. ... They [nurses] were very nice, but when I began to get horrible results, I felt like I needed more compassion and support than I was given.

Care team never remembered me other than one awesome nurse. Office was always so backlogged and ran late for every appointment. Dr Attaman did not appear to have reviewed my chart before any of our appointments, guess it would have been a much longer wait if she had.

Chris was awesome, she helped me work through a bunch of logistical challenges, like traveling during treatment, she remembered details about my specific situation and was great at answering my 100s of questions. The rest of the nursing staff was ok but a few times they forgot to call me with test results or didn't return my calls when I left messages.

Clinic was always overbooked and behind schedule, always, even for 7am appointments. They have a really difficult system with making calls, you never know when they will call you and if they call with results after 5 and you don't answer you can't call back with questions until the next morning. They do have 24 hour emergency support though which is really nice. I use Harvard Vanguard for all my other medical needs and am happy with their other services.

She and her nurses were genuinely invested in our success. They were SO excited to call and tell me I was pregnant. They squeezed in ultrasounds before office hours if they couldn’t get me in when I needed one based on my cycle.

I only used letrozole for 2 cycles. I got pregnant both times but the first time my numbers dropped quickly.

What really stood out was that during our process, she [Dr. Jill Attaman] spent extra time researching and then ultimately filing a request with insurance for us to skip the IUI's that are typically required and go straight to the IVF treatment because of our past history. This no doubt was extra effort on her part to describe our situation and make a case for us to move forward quickly...Ask all the questions you want, she is very eager to answer and give her true feelings on the matter.

Dr. Attaman takes the time to explain everything to help us understand and to feel comfortable. She changed our plan and was creative after the first two unsuccessful cycles. She is very compassionate and positive, but also direct with her information...[Harvard Vanguard] Nurse Christine is very caring and helpful. She takes the time to explain everything to you and will answer any questions you have. She made the process less stressful and helped explain what to expect to decrease nerves.

Ultrasound tech [at Harvard Vanguard] Jen is willing to come in early to prevent patients from driving to kenmore or Wellesley. Call center is very helpful, patient and reliable. Hard to know when the nurse will call back and have to go through the call center to return calls; while they are extremely nice/helpful, it's hard to manage working and getting the calls. I switched to a different clinics and my doctor recommended higher doses of gonal F + menopur, which resulted in 12 eggs retrieved, 4 were frozen after PGS,...

I saw Dr Attaman in 2018 at MGH at age 28. She recommended IUIs first so I did two in a row, neither resulted in a positive HCG test. Been a patient for both, I don't think MGH is as specialized in fertility treatment as clinics like Boston IVF. Either treatment plans or embryo culture has led to my failed IVF cycle at MGH.
