Dr Attaman is very knowledgeable...doesn’t always provide a lot of additional information at appointments... is calm and direct in her communication...Took the time to call me on a Sunday when one of my cycles got canceled to go over next steps...is very conservative in her treatment plans, very risk adverse
I found it very easy to communicate with [Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center]...Scheduling appointment was easy...financial coordinate was very, very difficult to work with...very disorganized, did not respond in a timely manner...made multiple mistakes...nurse’s very organized and timely
How was your experience with Jill Attaman at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center?
Overall I was pleased with the care we received. Dr Attaman is very knowledgeable. She doesn’t always provide a lot of additional information at appointments so you have to ask questions but when you do she always answers them with good insight and detail. She is calm and direct in her communication which I prefer in a provider. Took the time to call me on a Sunday when one of my cycles got canceled to go over next steps. She is very conservative in her treatment plans, very risk adverse, maybe even to a fault. Overall pleased and would go back to her again.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jill Attaman at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center?
Ask questions, and if you feel like you need more time to go over things make another appointment with her, even if it is a 15 min telephone call.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jill Attaman at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center?
Overall Dr Attaman always took time to explain treatment options and answer any questions I had. She was always prepared going into appointments knowing my history, etc. Very empathetic and calm.
Describe the protocols Jill Attaman used in your cycles at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center and their degree of success.
Due to our specific infertility diagnosis we jumped right to IVF. Used pretty typical antagonist protocol, which unfortunately resulted in a canceled fresh transfer. We had another canceled modified natural cycle (nothing she did, just things didn’t cooperate), then successful fully medicated cycle.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center.
Overall I found the nurse’s very organized and timely. They always called when they were suppose to (communicate results, med adjustments, next steps). Overall kind and caring. However I did have a few less than ideal interactions including someone who was clearly rushing, and another with someone audibly annoyed when I was upset about a canceled cycle.
Describe your experience with Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center.
Overall I found it very easy to communicate with them. Scheduling appointment was easy. However our financial coordinate was very, very difficult to work with. I would request to work with someone different in the future. She was very disorganized, did not respond in a timely manner, and made multiple mistakes including documenting critical information in the wrong patients chart.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jill Attaman at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center.
I believe egg retrieval with ICSI was about $17K and frozen transfer was $6K. I don’t know the cost for canceled cycle. We were very fortunate and had excellent insurance coverage for this.
Describe Jill Attaman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Boston IVF - The New Hampshire Center.
It was our preference for a single embryo transfer, which she was supportive of. We also had “good” quality embryos.
Doctor Attaman is really compassionate and takes her time to explain her approach to treatment...Though I didn’t get the results expected, I trust Dr Attaman’s judgment and the way she managed my expectations. We found some fibroids in the end, I am not sure what could have been done to discover those earlier as I believe these are responsible for the failures of my IUIs.
I have never had a bad experience at the [Massachusetts General Hospital] clinic. Everybody was always cordial and compassionate. The front desk staff never have an attitude as I have experienced in some other clinics and they really try to accommodate my needs. Also, you never have to wait very long to be seen which is always a plus in my book...Everybody was always kind and compassionate. There could sometimes be a slight delay in communication but as far as I am concerned nothing ever fell through the cracks. So overall I am satisfied with the level of care I received

Describe the protocols Jill Attaman used in your cycles at Massachusetts General Hospital and their degree of success.
We started with medicated cycles with CLOMID and Ovidrel for IUIs based on my age. Dr Attaman decided that time was of the essence since I had turned 40. I was referred to a MFM specialist to assess risks based on age and medical conditions.
Unfortunately all IUIS were unsuccessful and Dr Attaman was thinking on switching to IVF when some fibroids were discovered inside of the uterus cavity likely to require removal before proceeding with treatments. Scheduled to see a reproductive surgeon in May 2022.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Jill Attaman at Massachusetts General Hospital.
My health insurance pays for clinic visits and test. All other procedures or treatments were out of pocket. For example, the cost for one IUI Procedure would be about $1000 for the donor sperm and $1000 for clinical fee.
Describe Jill Attaman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Attaman was fine, but we had very limited experience with her and never met her in person...There were several times I had to ask if something was right, because it seemed different to what Dr. Attaman initially told us (and then they changed course after I questioned them)...We ended up going through with 3 cycles, one was cancelled because I had too many follicles.
People at the [Mass Gen Hospital] clinic are nice; the ultrasound techs were friendly and quick; and I never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes. I had huge issues with the billing department; I needed them to resubmit a claim to my insurance which took 6 months and innumerable phone calls. I was also sent a bill for something I pre-paid in advance...IUIs were about $1000 each
How was your experience with Jill Attaman at Massachusetts General Hospital?
Dr. Attaman was fine, but we had very limited experience with her and never met her in person. We had two Zoom appointments with Dr. Attaman; otherwise we only spoke with nurses. So, it's hard to really rate our care with DR. Attaman.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jill Attaman at Massachusetts General Hospital?
Advocate for yourself. Remember everything Dr. Attaman tells you, because it might not be conveyed to your nurse. There were several times I had to ask if something was right, because it seemed different to what Dr. Attaman initially told us (and then they changed course after I questioned them)
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jill Attaman at Massachusetts General Hospital?
We never actually met with Dr. Attaman or the nurses in person due to COVID19. We dealt with a bunch of different nurses who were super disorganized. There were a bunch of mistakes - I was given the wrong prescription, not told I needed a prescription until hours before I needed to do an injection (and then needing to drive a speciality pharmacy 45 minutes away on Christmas Eve), etc.
Describe the protocols Jill Attaman used in your cycles at Massachusetts General Hospital and their degree of success.
We did 4 rounds of IUI (all paid out of pocket) because our insurance didn't cover any fertility treatment and IVF was out of our price range. We ended up going through with 3 cycles, one was cancelled because I had too many follicles.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. (Assigned nurse: Cathy / Joanne)
I got very few details from the nurses - no one ever told me how many follicles I had, how big they were, etc - just "come back on X day." They also forgot to tell me about medications I needed, sent in the wrong prescription (for double the dosage I needed), and were in general disorganized.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Prescription not called in twice; I had to remind clinic I needed a prescription; sent wrong prescription once and had to call doctor on call after hours.
Jill Attaman was very nice. However, I felt like I wasn't given any attention. I felt confused who to call and ask questions to. She only has one nurse at the Burlington location. I felt like she didn't care and didn't answer my questions easily. I'm not sure if them merging with Boston IVF was playing a role in this...We did Gonal F, which is very expensive. There was one other injection to but I can't remember. We did the trigger shot and the retrieval in Lexington. We did genetic testing this time which is costly. Unfortunately the three embryos that did test came back all abnormal.
I felt that burlington office was nice, but the schedule was inflexible. I thought it was confusing to have to go to other locations. I went to Welseley only because I didn't want to drive into Boston...I was waiting for the genetic testing of the embryos to come back. They were back and Jill Attaman did not call me. I had to create a little drama with the staff to get her on the phone to call me with the results (which I had already waited 2 weeks).

Jill Attaman was too busy for me. Even her staff commented several times on how busy she was. Also they are merging with Boston IVF, so I felt I was always being shifted around.

At the Burlington location it was Chris. She was lovely but all by herself so it was often left leaving messages. I often got routed to the Wellesley location to speak to others to. It was very confusing who to call. Then on weekends it was to call Kenmore location to, which was odd and very hard to get through.

This part was the nightmare! We were denied from Blue Cross Blue Shield. They denied me on an old test from another doctor I was not seeing. The very information they denied me for was from a past cycle they approved. Jill Attaman although supported me I feel should could have worked harder to help appeal the decision.
The cycle was incomplete because we did the genetic testing . We had no transfer, which would have cost more. When I paid for the cycle the accountant said I was all
Set but the transfer was never paid for and I thought it was because she said I was all paid in full.

She [Dr. Jill Attaman] always took the time to make sure if we had any questions, that she tried to answer to the best of her ability. We didn't feel rushed at appointments. We felt like she genuinely cared about us...We started with 2 IUI's, then moved onto IVF. She allowed us to gradually try increasing doses of the fertility drugs rather than jumping in to the highest levels. She didn't push us to do more expensive (and not covered by insurance) testing, but offered them as an option for our consideration. In the end we conceived naturally on a month between IVF cycles.
Once or twice the blood test hadn't been called in [at Harvard Vanguard] when I showed up to have it taken. However, the nurses were able to contact Dr Attaman's office and get the tests ordered while I waited. This was the only issue I had...I liked that the IVF patients had early appointments so I could do the ultrasounds and bloods tests before work. They are very busy though and getting in for the first appointment took a long time. They also have several locations that you can go to in combination during a cycle, so I could pick whichever location was most convenient on any given day.

Dr. Attaman was great to work with. She was kind and compassionate, and due to all our trouble conceiving, she was thinking about us and always searching for other options or second opinions from her peers if she didn't know what the best next steps were. She occasionally called me directly to review test results.

After we met with Dr. Attaman and agreed on next steps, the nurses then met with us separately to review the next steps in detail and answer any specific questions about the drugs I had to take or the process and next steps. hey were very thorough an understanding and took as much time as we needed to get our questions answered.

We initially started treatments with my husband being the problem and discovered along the way that I was also the problem. ... we were told that the process would never be successful for us. ... Attempted a “fire” round of fertility drugs in an attempt to be as aggressive as possible to get my ovaries to produce eggs. ... I felt like she [Dr. Attaman] offered no attempt at answering any of my legitimate women’s health concerns, but instead offered info for adoption or surrogacy.
After I was told that they [Harvard Vanguard] could do nothing more for me, I actually reached back out to them about natural cycle fertility treatments I had heard about since my body was unresponsive to the fertility treatments, I was simply told they did not do that and that was all. ... They [nurses] were very nice, but when I began to get horrible results, I felt like I needed more compassion and support than I was given.

Dr. Attaman is a nice person and clearly works hard and did help me get pregnant (yeah!) but if I had it to do again I would have seen someone else...Dr Attaman did not appear to have reviewed my chart before any of our appointments, guess it would have been a much longer wait if she had.
I think this clinic [Harvard Vanguard] just takes on too many patients, they don't have the time and energy to address each one personally... Office was always so backlogged and ran late for every appointment... They have a really difficult system with making calls, you never know when they will call you and if they call with results after 5 and you don't answer you can't call back with questions until the next morning.

They have a really difficult system with making calls, you never know when they will call you and if they call with results after 5 and you don't answer you can't call back with questions until the next morning. They do have 24 hour emergency support though which is really nice. I use Harvard Vanguard for all my other medical needs and am happy with their other services.
To be honest I think I only saw her [Dr. Jill Attaman] once or twice. She was nice and knowledgeable but I didn’t get the majority of my info from her. She did explain the tests that I was getting and next steps but she was not overly friendly or talkative, which is fine with me...I only used letrozole for 2 cycles. I got pregnant both times but the first time my numbers dropped quickly.

Everything was covered by my insurance. I just had to pay copays
What really stood out was that during our process, she [Dr. Jill Attaman] spent extra time researching and then ultimately filing a request with insurance for us to skip the IUI's that are typically required and go straight to the IVF treatment because of our past history. This no doubt was extra effort on her part to describe our situation and make a case for us to move forward quickly...Ask all the questions you want, she is very eager to answer and give her true feelings on the matter.
The nurses [at Harvard Vanguard] approached the treatment steps in a very organized and easy to understand format. They printed out calendars with all the key info, then discussed them to ensure we understood what needed to be done. This was very helpful since we didn't have to take notes - the notes were already there.

Dr. Attaman takes the time to explain everything to help us understand and to feel comfortable. She changed our plan and was creative after the first two unsuccessful cycles. She takes the time to explain everything to you and will answer any questions you have. She made the process less stressful and helped explain what to expect to decrease nerves.
Ultrasound tech [at Harvard Vanguard] Jen is willing to come in early to prevent patients from driving to kenmore or Wellesley. Call center is very helpful, patient and reliable. Hard to know when the nurse will call back and have to go through the call center to return calls; while they are extremely nice/helpful, it's hard to manage working and getting the calls. But I wish I had better understood the various potential outcomes with Ivf - i.e. Not having any viable embryos. I never realized that could be an issue until I hit the Ivf message boards.

Although I can see the benefit of that - keeping patients positive. But it made a negative outcome that much more heart breaking.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jill Attaman at Harvard Vanguard (closed)?
She was thoughtful and took the time to explain the options. Seeemed genuinely sympathetic.
Describe the protocols Jill Attaman used in your cycles at Harvard Vanguard (closed) and their degree of success.
Clomid then into ivf due to recurrent miscarriages
Describe the costs associated with your care under Jill Attaman at Harvard Vanguard (closed).
All covered under insurance. Amount billed to insurance for meds was like $50k for three Ivf rounds. Not counting the procedures.
She [Dr. Attaman] is just the nicest person. We really loved her style. The only downside is that she seems relatively inexperienced, so when you ask her input, she can't really draw on a lot of personal cases (it's more what she has learned). I found that difficult - she didn't guide us as much as I would've liked.
Don't see anyone else in her group...Dr. Attaman is so sweet, but be prepared to go to her clinic [Harvard Vanguard] in Burlington and avoid the doctors in Quincy.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Jill Attaman at Harvard Vanguard (closed)?
Don't see anyone else in her group. The other doctors are evil. Dr. Attaman is so sweet, but be prepared to go to her clinic in Burlington and avoid the doctors in Quincy. Also, go if you are looking for someone compassionate but want to leave options of treatment open.

Dr. Attaman is super compassionate, sweet and patient. She is very empathetic and will spend as much time as you need to answer questions.
Dr. Attaman was excellent, very competent and compassionate. I liked that she was clear about setting expectations of success and issues...She seems to have a good plan for each scenario and was realistic about risks and benefits. She took the time to discuss things with us and was in touch as much as needed. I think she has a good combo of being experienced enough and also up to date with treatments.
The one major issue with MGH is you can't pick the doctor you see for clinic visits. Whoever is scheduled is who you must see, or you must cancel your cycle. People who can't or won't see male doctors for mental health or religious reasons, or just personal preferences, will be stuck seeing a male doctor at some point for an ultrasound...[nursing staff] Generally great, although they took a long time coordinating the paperwork on a procedure which lead to some missed cycles where we couldn't do treatment.

People who can't or won't see male doctors for mental health or religious reasons, or just personal preferences, will be stuck seeing a male doctor at some point for an ultrasound. There's no consideration given to patients who can't do that and patients are told brusquely that "this is what they signed up for, and they're welcome to leave and cancel their cycle" even if they've already paid for it and taken meds for it.

We did IUIs with clomid due to unexplained infertility. We're still optimistic it will work as we haven't been trying for long.

I was not warned ahead of time that this was a possibility.

MA insurance covers infertility treatments so insurance covered it.
Describe Jill Attaman's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Massachusetts General Hospital.
No idea
What specific things went wrong at Massachusetts General Hospital?
She [Dr. Attaman] recommended IUIs first so I did two in a row, neither resulted in a positive HCG test. I then did an IVF cycle with 9 eggs retrieved, 8 fertilized, but no embryo was good enough for freezing. Dr Attaman insisted that I start with low doses of gonal F + menopur on the second try although I did't quite agree with that recommendation. I switched to a different clinics and my doctor recommended higher doses of gonal F + menopur, which resulted in 12 eggs retrieved, 4 were frozen after PGS,...
[at Massachusetts General Hospital] Either treatment plans or embryo culture has led to my failed IVF cycle at MGH. Also as they don't do embryo transfer on weekends...I wasn't offered the option of a natural IVF cycle at MGH...She [Dr. Attaman] recommended IUIs first so I did two in a row, neither resulted in a positive HCG test. I saw Dr Attaman in 2018 at MGH at age 28. She recommended IUIs first so I did two in a row, neither resulted in a positive HCG test. I then did an IVF cycle with 9 eggs retrieved, 8 fertilized, but no embryo was good enough for freezing. Dr Attaman insisted that I start with low doses of gonal F + menopur on the second try although I did't quite agree with that recommendation. I switched to a different clinics and my doctor recommended higher doses of gonal F + menopur, which resulted in 12 eggs retrieved, 4 were frozen after PGS, and I had my beautiful son! Comparing the two doctors, Dr Attaman is not as competent, knowledgable and experienced and I wouldn't recommend her.

Go with another doctor with higher ratings on FertilityIQ..
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Jill Attaman at Massachusetts General Hospital?
Dr Attaman was nice but she does not spend much time before appointments to get prepared (does not appear to know my test results). She does not explain rationales under the treatment plan very well.
Describe your experience with Massachusetts General Hospital.
Been a patient for both, I don't think MGH is as specialized in fertility treatment as clinics like Boston IVF. Either treatment plans or embryo culture has led to my failed IVF cycle at MGH. Also as they don't do embryo transfer on weekends like Boston IVF do, I wasn't offered the option of a natural IVF cycle at MGH, which led me to a successful pregnancy at Boston IVF.
