I went to 8 different gynos before the referred me to Nichols for irregular bleeding. He treated me so good, and he helped with my bleeding in 2 weeks. He was very hopeful about getting me pregnant and never let my PCOS discourage him.... He wa very professional and showed wonderful compassion. He was a God sent for me, and I appreciate his efforts, even though the IUI was unsuccessful. He treated me with respect and kept my spirits high even though I was crying uncontrollably
[Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group- Greenville is] Not willing to work with you financially. I had to have emergency surgery and I was willing to make payments because I didnt have insurance. The denied and sent me to a collection agency. I was very upset with this... I knew I was pregnant and they kept telling me no. I cant help but wonder if they had found out sooner, maybe they could have saved my right tube

Dr. Nichols is a very kind, emphatic, and patience doctor who took the time to break everything down to me and my husband. I am in the military and he took the time to break down what I should eat, stress levels, and worked around my schedule as best as he could.... He decided to use multiple embryo transfer to give me a better chance of conception. He weighed out my options and created ed a plan specific to my wishes.
Strengths communication Weaknesses n/a I assure any patient at PREG that they are in good hands! The doctors and compassionate and the nurses are to your struggles and your journey to motherhood. I truly couldn’t pray for a better team... Karen helped us in a personal level, she knew our struggles because she had fought the battle of infertility herself. She truly made my husband and myself feel like family

[Dr. John Nichols] He explained everything. He was very open about the things I needed to hear. He made sure I left the office with a clear understanding of my treatment and plans of action. He was very gentle about my treatment...I had a blocked tube. He did a DIY test to come up with why the meds look clomid was not working after a few months. Then after that I had a tubal surgery to try and take some of the scar tissue off my tubes to help the sperm move to my uterus
[PREG staff] They all care about there patients leaving with the knowledge that they need! They where very helpful, calling to check up on me and to make sure I was doing my injection when I was supposed to. They seem to be a little late on returning calls about the financial side of things...I didn't have insurance that would cover anything with fertility. So I paid cash for every visit. Dr. Nichols was very nice with letting me by the none insurance price for my visits.

I didn’t see him [Dr. John Nicols] every visit or for every procedure. I don’t really have an opinion on the doctor - the whole process just left me with a mess. I felt like I was pushed along and was not as important as a patient with a “real” medical issue. ... I did not want multiples and figures looked good - proceeded with injections and IUI
They [PREG] are not good with finances - they do pre approvals which are then denied, costs are not clear, as they do not help project with long term. Was not notified of a discount offered until after payment was processed and no refunds given. Charge more for weekends - umm, that is wholly unfair in this specialty. ... Everything was just slightly uncoordinated, especially if you did not fall into one of their reassigned categories.

He [Dr. Nichols] was honest direct and explained everything so that I could understand. I had a tubial in 2000 so he checked my records and discovered that I could either reverse the tubial because they were clamped and not tied.... The PREG Office in Asheville, NC the doctor, nurses as well as the rest of the staff were wonderful. I didn't get to complete my cycle due to my mates sudden illness... I had started the birth control and getting ready to start the other step
The PREG Office in Asheville, NC the doctor, nurses as well as the rest of the staff were wonderful.... The clinic is very well ran. It is very clean and inviting. The staff was wonderful. The receptionist greets you and make you feel welcome from the time you entered til your departure. The counselor explains everything to you step by step so there is no surprises along the way.... Like any medical visit there is cost, but the money wasn't an issue. He only had one child and I have six wonderful children. We just wanted to have a piece of us.

He [Dr. Nichols] was very direct and to the point. He answered all the questions we could think to ask. We always had a lot of questions we thought of after we left the office. He was always able to answer them. He kept a positive attitude about our situation. He showed legitimate concern for our infertility. ... First we tried clomid, then we moved to the trigger shot then we tried 2 rounds of IUI. Next on the list is IVF
They have been easy to get ahold of and can always work somebody in. The asheville [PREG] facility they are in is new. The only down side for us is they don't have the same equipment at all three locations. Sometimes we do have to travel a bit further to the facility that has the equipment we need ... The staff is amazing and very compassionate. They all seem to love there job.

Very good at what he does but also very busy. I wish he would do more of the iui procedures himself. He did it the very first time I had an iui. the day he [Dr. Nichols] had to tell me I was having a miscarriage was the worst, but his bed side manner and the way he treated my husband and I was very warm, comforting, and understandable...has your families best interest at heart...We started out with the lowest dosage of Femera with a trigger shot with timed intercourse, each month we increased the medication until he got the result he was looking for, Which was the time I got pregnant. Now that I miscarried we will start treatment over again and work on how to keep the baby
I have nothing negative to say [about Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group]! This has been the best experience, nice facility and very warm and inviting!! Everyone is so involved in helping you get pregnant and start your family. Preg is an amazing family oriented facility and I highly recommend anyone who is struggling with infertility to go there! They make sure you know there are so many options to try and get pregnant before they look at you and say it’s just not happening, which luckily they have not told me that yet!
How was your experience with John Nichols at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
As a patient of Dr. Nicholas he made everything understandable and about me. I didn’t feel like I was another number, he took his time and clearly explained everything. The time I got pregnant he was amazing and the day he had to tell me I was having a miscarriage was the worst, but his bed side manner and the way he treated my husband and I was very warm, comforting, and understandable. Dr. Nichols is an amazing doctor.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Nichols at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
If it was between two doctors I would definitely pick Dr. Nichols, he is very knowledgeable, understandable and has your families best interest at heart.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group. (Assigned nurse: Kristina Housworth)
Kristina is amazing!!!! She made me feel like I was family, I was the most inportant person in the world when I dealt with her! She would send another nurse in to prep my room and make sure they tell me she is finishing up with someone but she will be right in! She always explained everything fully and then would email me a full write up because I everything was overwhelming, she is the best nurse I could ask for! It’s almost like having a sister that has so much knowledge in getting pregnant!

The strength really lies in his [Dr. Nichols] experience, expertise, and individualized approach. I always felt that the plan was tailored exactly to my needs. ... I had both a polyp removed and a procedure involving scraping to improve the odds between my first failed three day FET and my subsequent transfer of one remaining five day embryo, also with FET. We also did ICSI to increase odds, and I stayed on progesterone (PIO) for 12 weeks after transfer.
There were a couple of times when I showed up for my appointment and it was not in their computer. ... There was also one time when I was called by the anesthesiologist and turns out they meant to call someone else. ... You really don’t know what costs you are getting yourself into until you actually get the bill. They provide you with information about where to get loans or similar, but I had no idea what the cost of the different procedures would be.
How was your experience with John Nichols at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
The strength really lies in his experience, expertise, and individualized approach. I always felt that the plan was tailored exactly to my needs. This was so important in feeling that he gave me the best possible chance of having a successful pregnancy. I also appreciated the review of all the options, as well as the risks, but always with a great deal of confidence and support.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Nichols at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
I think it is important to be invested in your treatment and really express both your hopes and fears because he will address them and you will feel better having shared your point of view.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Nichols at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
He took great care in getting to know me outside of the issue that brought me to the fertility clinic. Meaning he wanted to know the person, not just the diagnosis.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group. (Assigned nurse: Deb, Stephanie B. )
Always greeting me by name, asking about my day and work, and very on judgmental about my social situation being a single woman trying to conceive in my late 30s
Describe your experience with Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
Strength is the friendly atmosphere, the obvious expertise and experience, and the use of cutting edge technology. Can this include no financial information posted on their website. You really don’t know what costs you are getting yourself into until you actually get the bill. They provide you with information about where to get loans or similar, but I had no idea what the cost of the different procedures would be. It would be helpful if they broke it down so I knew what I paid extra for ICSI, for example. Other clinics that I’ve researched provide a range for different types of procedures, but PREG does not.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Nichols at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
My costs included two egg retrieval is, two frozen embryo transfers, polyp removal, my costs included two egg retrieval is, two frozen embryo transfers, polyp removal, ICSI. I believe I spent approximately $11,000 per retrieval, but that included medications. I also paid extra for the transfers, so all in all just under $30,000. The fact that I had my son as a result, was worth all of it! I would love to give him a sibling, and I have eggs in storage, but the cost prevents that from happening.
Describe John Nichols's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
I felt well informed the first time around when it came to transferring four of my three day embryos that we’re looking like they weren’t going to survive anyways but we did not want to cancel the cycle. I never pursued elective, so I don’t have any comments about that.

[Dr. John Nichols] He went really quick over the review like he wanted us out of the office, but he was also straight forward and honest. Was a big help...[protocol] They wanted to jump straight into IUI, without doing a HSG test to check my tubes. They prescribed an injection shot...Not a compassionate person...
[PREG clinic] Very clean, polite nurses, quick responses. Weakness the doctor wasn’t very compassionate. Made us feel a little bad that we were paying out of pocket due to insurance not covering anything. Prices are higher then other clinics around in the area...Very expensive, IVF each time is 15,000 plus. IUI is 800. Injection shots with ultrasound are around 400.

It was good, wasn’t great. Prices are higher then some other clinics are. Clean office. Not a compassionate person there were however some really lovely nurses! I would recommend to anyone to call around first. More understanding don’t rush people out of your office after telling them they have an unexplainable issue. And then blurt out prices.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
[Dr. John Nichols was] Very knowledgeable and nice. Gave some discounts on appointments since I was cash pay. Did some procedures/testings and didn’t charge me because he just wanted to know for himself what’s going on...He was the first one to explain to me that I have PCOS...I’ve been on Clomid for 3 months to regulate my period and to grow my eggs. I have PCOS so I take 3 pills a day and a tigger shot after my ultrasound appointment
Sometimes it’s hard to reach them [Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group] by phone. There were several times that I called and no one answered. Ended up emailing the nurse instead. I also referred a friend and she too wasn’t able to get ahold of anyone. Other than that they are nice...[nurses at PREG] Very nice and supportive. Respond and call back quickly. They are helpful with any questions I might ask.

He [Dr. John Nichols] comes across as cold but he is very knowledgeable about his profession. I found him to be direct and straight to the point. Some days he would be cordial and others I felt like a business transaction.... He used femara to help my eggs develop and a shot to ovulate each cycle.... I felt his bedside manor was very cold. I don’t mind him being truthful and honest. However, I felt he was very cold when he spoke to us about our options after many failed attempts to become pregnant and didn’t take into account the news he was giving us was hard to hear.
[PREG- Spartanburg is] Very organized and very timely. Loved them. They were all very personable and we all had a great relationship. I don’t know of any weaknesses. They were always very compassionate and understanding. All of the staff knew us personally and would ask about how we were doing each time.... She [a nurse] was awesome! The entire staff in Spartanburg was great!!

Dr. Nichols did a great job of explaining procedures to me before and during each procedure. He used diagrams to help me understand what was going on in my body...I always knew what to expect and had realistic expectations...He is always available any time I have any questions...He was very knowledgeable
The nursing staff [at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group] is so compassionate and makes you feel comfortable before procedures and appointments...The clinic is clean, well organized, well decorated, and quiet...t also seems very private. There are places to discuss treatment options as well as financial options in a way that is not intimidating.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I feel the dr Nichols has a set plan that is personal to myself, not fault I see would like to see him more usually during our cycles the nurse does most of the communication with him and then make changes to my treatment accordingly... Firstly we have tried ferema, clomid we are currently using HCG, GONAL shots and are going to use IUI... The nurses and call will call/email you with questions
The strengths is the compassion of the staff [Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group], the weaknesses I believe is the financial aspect, the finance department is hard to get a hold of and you pay prior to being seen it’s no you got a bill and you pay on... [Cost Of Treatment] It’s 190 per visit for follicle scan... The nursing staff hands down is the best!... It’s very personal! The nurses and call will call/email you with questions

He [Dr. John Nichols] knew what he was talking about. He helped us with all the questions we had. He was very honest about everything that was going on. He gave very detailed answers about what we were currently doing and what would happen next.... For us we did a lot of testing to begin. He recommended fertility treatment after a couple months of seeing him. We used femara and ovidrol. The recommend dosage worked amazing with us.
The nurses [at Piedmont Reproductive Group- Greenville] were amazing. They are always smiling and always are very helpful. If you have any questions they always do their best to answer them correctly.... They are very knowledgeable about what they do. They always have great attitudes and are always so nice. One weakness we didn’t really know until later is the clinic communicating the costs that would be included in all this.
