Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park at Carolina Conceptions.
Approximately $12,000 or IVF with ICSI (fresh cycle) (meds not included)
What specific things went wrong at Carolina Conceptions?
Dr park is very compassionate. I can tell in the tone of his voice that he really wants us to be parents. My last consult he answered my questions and took my thoughts into consideration...Because we have had so many cycles I would like to transfer 2 embryos but Dr park advised against it due to the possibility of complications...Ask questions, Dr park will answer them if he can.
No fault of the clinic [Carolina Conceptions], they are always busy, it would be great if the check out process was more private. The waiting area is always full. I like early morning appointments but so do others. After check out, you either have good news or bad and it’s hard to talk about your next appointment with a waiting room full of patients...Because we are using a surrogate I don’t have many interactions (we have been doing remote monitoring )with the nurses, but they get back to me with 24 hours

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
I know they get tons of questions because I know I sent messages many times a day but I felt they responded to me accordingly.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles at Carolina Conceptions and their degree of success.
We send a surrogate so she had previously had 3 healthy babies, so we just did the general estrogen and progesterone injections, plus baby aspirin
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions.

This will be our 2nd cycle with our surrogate. We have already had 3 cycles using my own eggs and transfer to me. They only offered a discount 2x for teachers but wouldn’t allow us to use it after that. Our first 3 cycles were about $18k each. Our first DE cycle was about $35k, and the 2nd is about the same. This does not include our DEs. We purchased a total of 6 eggs the 1st round at $27k and 10 the second round at $27k, unfortunately all of this is self pay!
Describe John Park's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Carolina Conceptions.
Because we have had so many cycles I would like to transfer 2 embryos but Dr park advised against it due to the possibility of complications
Dr. Park did a good job explaining Invocell as a new treatment and was very patient and kind...able to perform Invocell treatment which is basically a milder form of IVF...it is still under research...he was very much against performing multiple embryo transfer for me...use the fertility IQ classes to know what to ask/when and what to expect so you're not hearing it for the first time when you walk in the door.
Carolina Conceptions did fine...chose them primarily to pursue Invocell treatment...This is the only clinic that performs it in the area as it is still under research...were kind and efficient....very much against performing multiple embryo transfer...urses/other doctors, I felt more treated like a number/cog in the machine.
How was your experience with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Dr. Park did a good job explaining Invocell as a new treatment and was very patient and kind. He was also very kind during the initial appointment when my husband had questions as well as during my invocell placement time. The only downside I remember was that I was not told to stop taking progesterone after I was deemed to be pregnant via ultrasound. I had understood per instructions that I was supposed to take it until the end of the 1st trimester and I'm afraid if I hadn't asked, I would have continued to inject myself.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Come prepared. Know your history beforehand, and use the fertility IQ classes to know what to ask/when and what to expect so you're not hearing it for the first time when you walk in the door.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
When I got to see him in clinic/for surgery, I felt treated very well by Dr. Park. Sometimes however by the nurses/other doctors, I felt more treated like a number/cog in the machine.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles at Carolina Conceptions and their degree of success.
I was able to perform Invocell treatment which is basically a milder form of IVF. This is the only clinic that performs it in the area as it is still under research. It was successful for me I believe because of my age, my known cause for infertility and general health. I was able to get 1 viable zygote from 13 made from one ovary; unsure what the protocol was. I would do it again due to the cost savings and successful outcome.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions.
They were kind and efficient.
Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
I believe Carolina Conceptions did fine and is on par for the other clinics we interviewed in the area (UNC, Duke). We chose them primarily to pursue Invocell treatment. I saw Dr Park, Dr. Bowling and Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson I think was new at the time and was very abrupt with me and even asked me "oh did that hurt?" abruptly after I was quietly crying when she removed my invocell implant. I would request not to work with her in the future.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park at Carolina Conceptions.
6,000 invocell? Cant remember the other costs.
Describe John Park's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Carolina Conceptions.
I do remember he was very much against performing multiple embryo transfer for me, but it was on par for what all the doctors I talked to said.
I have had a very weird fertility journey and have been working with dr parks for different areas of fertility. He always says hello by name and takes the time to listen to any questions I have or concerns I have. ... I was on clomid when I started and was taken off because it wasn’t working. ... I am trying timed intercourse for now with the ovidrel shot and letrozole this cycle. Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles at Carolina Conceptions and their degree of success.
I was on clomid when I started and was taken off because it wasn’t working. I entered a IVF study to help reduce the cost and my egg didn’t develop fast enough for the study. That egg is currently frozen and we can’t afford to implant it. I am trying timed intercourse for now with the ovidrel shot and letrozole this cycle. If timed intercourse doesn’t work the next couple of times I will have to stop and save to use my frozen embryo from the study.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions.
Everybody in the clinic has been very nice and understanding.
Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
The team is the clinics strongest strength. They are all very nice and even after a couple years they remember me.
The only weakness would be other doctors going into full detail of different procedures such as blood work and ultra sounds. If you ask they tell but if you don’t ask you won’t know until you see your assigned doctor.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park at Carolina Conceptions.
I was in a IVF study which was 2500 at the time. Currently I am doing timed intercourse and it has been 300 this cycle but will go up next cycle. If I want to implant my egg from the study it will be $4000 at least to do so.
Dr. Park did mention that the recommendation [for Eset] is not the same for every individual...made our dream come true. He was thorough during our consultation, took his time and explained everything in detail. We didn't feel rushed, we felt understood...made sure that we had every question answered throughout the whole process, by being present in the office and on the phone...10 Day IVF injections...Be open and straightforward, Dr. Park will do the same.

This all depended on the situation and the person. Dr. Park did mention that the recommendation is not the same for every individual.
Dr. Park explained everything to me and was very calm and answered all my questions. If I did not understand something, he would go back and explain it and not treat me like I was incompetent. It felt as if I was talking to a longtime friend, which meant a lot to me...He did not sugarcoat anything and told me what my chances were in getting pregnant...IUI medicated cycle along with omnitrope to help me with my follicles...Very trustworthy and not a money hungry doctor.
$6600 for embryo adoption and $800 for IUI not including medications [at Carolina Conceptions]...I wish there was an option to transfer more than one embryo after all the money invested and not guaranteed that it will work...Ease of making appointments and I feel you can always get in touch with someone. I can always call the office and expect to have a call back that day, which is very important. The staff is friendly and very accommodating to my needs when making appointments.

We really appreciated everything he [Dr. John Park] did and the way we were treated in our visits with him. I would recommend him to friends who were going through the same or similar situations. [Dr. John Park is a] Good doctor. We didn’t understand initially for how long I had to take injections. There were far more injections than what we expected. No risk of injections were discussed. How was your experience with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Dr. Park was very kind, realistic with expectations and patient with my many questions. I really appreciated that he was available personally through email for questions that came up during my treatment. My case was not a straightforward, easy one (unexplained infertility, DOR, poor egg quality) but Dr. Park did not give up after our first round failed miserably. He was realistic about our chances, but also stayed optimistic when I was ready to give up. He changed my protocol and we had wonderful results. Dr. Park is personable, knowledgable and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing infertility treatment.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Bring your questions- he is willing to answer them!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Dr. Park got to know me and always seemed invested in my case and my care.
Describe the protocols John Park used in your cycles at Carolina Conceptions and their degree of success.
Our first retrieval cycle with Dr. Park, we used a typical Lupron Flare protocol because my AFC indicated I had DOR. When this resulted in only one mature egg retrieved and no embryos, we did another Lupron Flare protocol but added DHEA, testosterone patches, and growth hormone as well to do what we could to help egg quality and maturation.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions.
The nurses were always kind in the office and available to answer my many questions through email/portal with prompt responses.
Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
After using a previous clinic that only seemed to use very generic, standard protocols with rigid schedules that my body did not fit into well, I appreciated that this clinic did not do that and seemed to tailor care to individuals.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park at Carolina Conceptions.
I was lucky that we have very good fertility insurance that covered most of the costs after deductibles. I would say this clinic offered discounts and ways to make it affordable for people who didn't have insurance
Describe John Park's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Carolina Conceptions.
This clinic encourages only one embryo transferred at a time which I appreciate.
Given our age, we jumped straight into medicated IUI cycles [with Dr. John Park] after finding my tubes were clear on an HSG. We did three of them with unexplained infertility. All failed. After the first one, my lining wasn't growing well, so Dr. Park added estrogen. After our three failed IUIs we moved on to IVF. Our IUIs and testing revealed no answers for our infertility and we were able to secure insurance coverage for IVF, so since that would give us the best chances at my advanced age (35), that's what we went with.
[The nursing staff at Carolina Conceptions] never made me feel like I was overreacting or overly emotional. They always got back to me by the end of the day and since I am a teacher, it was hard for me to answer the phone, so they always left such clear and detailed voicemails for me...I cannot say enough about everyone in that office. I was a remote monitoring patient, as Raleigh is 2 hours from me. The communication between CC and my local OB was very good and I didn’t feel like I was missing out due to not being able to drive to CC for all my monitoring appointments.
How was your experience with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
As stated earlier, at one point Dr. Park emailed me back on a weekend that I knew he wasn’t working. Another time we had a scary first ultrasound after confirming our IVF pregnancy and being released to my OB and I emailed Dr. Park for his thoughts - within minutes he was calling me to discuss the matter. Dr. Park is one of the most compassionate doctors I've ever met. Infertility is soul-crushing and for a type A person like myself, it is insanity to not be in control of what is happening. Dr. Park eased my worries, helped me understand what to expect, and as I clearly needed, told me gently when I was trying to control the uncontrollable. He has such a wonderful mix of blunt realism and a truly compassionate bedside manner. We are so grateful for him. Infertility is so emotionally charged it takes a very special kind of person to be a doctor in this field and Dr. Park is absolutely that type of person (so is Dr. Couchman - she is the only other doctor we saw a few times).
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Let him talk first - he's probably going to answer everything on your list of questions and you'll do a better job listening to him if you just let him do his job; he's very good at it. This is advice I wished I'd taken myself.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Dr. Park was so kind and patient with us. A lot of the time I didn't feel like myself and I was anxious, struggling, depressed, and just plain desperate for answers. Dr. Park made sure to throughly explain everything and answer all of my questions. After my egg retrieval there was an issue with me getting phone calls and I missed my fertilization report. I emailed Dr. Park on a Saturday, thinking I wouldn't get a response until Monday as it was his weekend off. Sure enough, within an hour or two he had emailed me back after looking up the information. The fact that I know he stopped what he was doing with his family on the weekend to help me meant more than I could possibly explain. You can't put a price on that kind of compassion.

Describe your experience with your nurse at Carolina Conceptions. (Assigned nurse: Terry Hunter, Erica Newton, Hannah Proctor)
I don't recall having a primary nurse, but all of the nurses on staff were so wonderful. Infertility has a way of brining out the worst in me and I often felt like a bundle of nerves or just a mess. They never made me feel like I was overreacting or overly emotional. They always got back to me by the end of the day and since I am a teacher, it was hard for me to answer the phone, so they always left such clear and detailed voicemails for me.
Describe your experience with Carolina Conceptions.
Everyone at Carolina Conceptions from the front desk, to the nurses, to the people in financing (Catie Chilcott especially!!!) were more than helpful every time I reached out (which was a lot!). Infertility is a highly emotional journey and I was never at my best, but the staff at CC never made me feel anything but valued and cared for. I cannot say enough about everyone in that office. I was a remote monitoring patient, as Raleigh is 2 hours from me. The communication between CC and my local OB was very good and I didn’t feel like I was missing out due to not being able to drive to CC for all my monitoring appointments.
Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park at Carolina Conceptions.
When we did our IUIs we did not have insurance coverage. Between oral medication, monitoring appointments, and the procedure itself (including sperm wash) we paid roughly $800 per IUI. For IVF we had insurance coverage so we "technically" paid 20% of our costs, however, there were a lot of costs our insurance did not cover and the medication actually ended up being cheaper to buy most of it out-of-pocket. For our IVF cycle we paid roughly $12,000 for our monitoring appointments, medications, egg retrieval, PGS testing, first embryo transfer, and the first year of cryopreservation for our embryos.
Describe John Park's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Carolina Conceptions.
There was no reason to believe that a single embryo transfer wouldn't work for us, so I didn't question this decision. I have a few friends who lost twins after IVF and I didn't want to risk the same happening to me if I were to have a high risk twin pregnancy.
Dr. Park immediately spoke to myself and my husband like old family friends he was trying to help start a family. He spared no details on his explanations and addressed most of our concerns before we even said them out loud ... He thoroughly explained where we were at, all of our options, and all potential outcomes. He cares enough to respond to my weekend and late night emails without complaint
I came to Carolina Conceptions after going to a fertility clinic with over an hour wait each visit, impersonal staff, and a doctor that could barely even be bothered to give me eye contact. This clinic honestly has no weaknesses. The decor is beautiful, staff is friendly, and the appointments are efficient. I've never had to wait more than an hour to hear back from a phone call or email.

Treatment is ongoing, but for my first round of IUI, we opted out of hormones since my egg production is healthy. I did an HCG trigger shit injection to induce ovulation, then did 1IUI cycle. It did not result in a pregnancy, but did find a small polyp on my uterus. Dr. Park advised that I get that removed, then will participate in an IVF study in November

Describe the costs associated with your care under John Park at Carolina Conceptions.
My insurance doesn't cover fertility so everything except my labs were out of pocket. Dr. Park knew this and has always done his best to accommodate
I felt like a human. Obviously I’m sure he [Dr. Park] refreshed his memory before each visit but I always felt like I was one of his patients out of a few... he was so patient with all of my questions. Even during non business hours which was life saving. Like I remember a Saturday I sent him the longest email in tizzy. He called me!... He gave me the option of how aggressive I wanted to start my treatment as! Which was awesome.
They [Carolina Conceptions] once tested the wrong thing... Just a blood test and luckily we didn’t miss anything. I think the clinic is standard. The receptionist I love left a couple months ago. She was so sweet and efficient.... And they didn’t put in a script once - I had to call them twice to put it in! But that’s not really a big deal to me....every ultrasound, shot, pill was usually pretty costly. But I think that’s across clinics. Trying to get better insurance coverage for infertility
How was your experience with John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
I am on the younger side. I went to CC because my previous doctor didn’t really take me seriously. But who are you to say when I get to start a family. Based on my timeline (6 months without catching ovulation) it was time to take the next step and she said to just wait it out. So when I went to Dr Park I was completely accepted. I saw him two different times. (Phases you could call them). Phase one was the longest. We tried multiple months. He was great and helpful along the way. As mentioned in my last question - he was so patient with all of my questions. Even during non business hours which was life saving. Like I remember a Saturday I sent him the longest email in tizzy. He called me! Infertility is a way different practice then typical medical issues. Things happen all out of sorts and it was so nice feeling accepted. I never felt like I was annoying him even though I’m sure I was lol. Weaknesses? I can’t think of any. Maybe one - I had to suggest adding in one extra normal med to help with my lining. My friend had it (she also went to cc) we have similar issues so I was curious as to why I didn’t have that too. Still not sure! But he added it in anyway. But it just kinda made me second think what else could I be doing!? But overall I trust him. But still did my own research and consulted other patients.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of John Park at Carolina Conceptions?
Take a deep breath. Not only will he help you start a family (in hopes) but he will forever be a part of yours.

I felt like a human. Obviously I’m sure he refreshed his memory before each visit but I always felt like I was one of his patients out of a few...verse the amount he actually treats! Not to mention his patience with all my questions. Infertility is a rollercoaster. You are constantly asking questions and needing reassurance. He provided that.

I will have very little specifics. I’m sorry I’m advance! I couldn’t pronounce half of the stuff I was doing. I knew what they were all for though! Increase Follicle size. Forced ovulation. Increase follicles. Strengthen lining. He gave me the option of how aggressive I wanted to start my treatment as! Which was awesome. I chose the less aggressive because I was early on and the others were way more expensive.

They were fine. Not over the top. It certainly not negative.

They once tested the wrong thing 🤦🏼♀️ Just a blood test and luckily we didn’t miss anything. I think the clinic is standard. The receptionist I love left a couple months ago. She was so sweet and efficient.

Infertility is. So. Ex. Pen. Sive. (So expensive) we had insurance. But still every ultrasound, shot, pill was usually pretty costly. But I think that’s across clinics. Trying to get better insurance coverage for infertility !!

The wrong test was alarming. But like I said we didn’t miss anything. And they didn’t put in a script once - I had to call them twice to put it in! But that’s not really a big deal to me.
He [Dr. John Park] suggested IVF versus IUI because both my husband and I had issues and with IVF we had greater chances of conceiving than if we tried IUI...Our treatment was successful and we got pregnant first time...he suggested we do a single since multiples carry more risks. He also stated that because of my age and health one would probably be ok but that we could reconsider multiples if the first transfer did not work out...All my questions were answered efficiently and even when I had a question out of office hours he would respond the emails promptly. Even after our daughter was born we emailed him a picture and he congratulated us in what seemed to us in a very nice personal matter, he didn’t make us feel like patients.
be prepared to see different doctors for different procedures since they rotate [at Carolina Conceptions]...We had 50% discount because my husband is in the military. It [IVF] was total around 13,000 (treatment and medication)...Strengths: communication, and how all medical staff treated you when you were there, no matter what your appointment was. They were always kind. Weakness: It was hard to actually get a hold of someone over the phone. They were quick to respond to voicemails but I was never able to reach a human first time around in a call.

He suggested IVF versus IUI because both my husband and I had issues and with IVF we had greater chances of conceiving than if we tried IUI. And although we could have tried IUI first we would have needed up doing IVF and sending more money in the long run. Our treatment was successful and we got pregnant first time.

I was actually apart of a clinical trial for a new drug. We had to follow the protocol that the study set up. I was actually not allowed to know what was going on at first until they told me I was ready for the retrieval. We had the retrieval and our of 19 eggs only 2 embryos made it to day 5. We had a fresh transfer that ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks 6 days.

I wanted that one on one experience that made me feel like the doctor was on my side. He [Dr. John Park] never performed one procedure on me just the initial meeting and after 3 failed IUI.... I stated on 150ui Follistim. Second month the same only to find out they changed it to 225ui and no one told me. So 3rd round they told me to stay at 150 and then when I met with the doc after 3 failed attempts he said do full 300 next round.
You can never get anyone on the phone must wait for a call back [at Carolina Conceptions]. Your a number so no one knows your specific case... Nurses were great. Some better than others. They are the ones who should receive credit for IUIs they performed every single one... I never knew of my protocol change and I needed meds asap and took days to get them called in
