He [Dr John Payne] gave me the information I needed and made recommendations that made sense....The interactions in the office are mainly with the nurses and they are fantastic! They take the time and are easy to reach even by email. I don't feel that I had as much of a relationship with the Doctor as I did with them....You won't see him {Dr Payne] a ton but will see him when necessary.
[Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group is a] smaller setting where you are treated like a person. Everyone knows your name when you get there and is so supportive!...Cost for the IVF was $10,000 but between the first appointments and then medications we spent a total of about 18,000....The interactions in the office are mainly with the nurses and they are fantastic! They take the time and are easy to reach even by email.

Aggressive stim cycle due to diminished ovarian reserve. Recommendation to start supplements and acupuncture 3 months prior. This was second cycle of IVF we did. I only had 5 eggs and 3 that were viable and transferred but this cycle resulted in a healthy baby. The first cycle was 3 years prior, we weren't as aggressive and I had more eggs retrieved and fertilized but no pregnancy.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
The best! They still email Me to see how the pregnancy is going.

Dr Payne is very knowledgeable. However, he does speak using medical terminology that the average person doesn't necessarily follow. He speaks very quickly- almost to the point where its hard to keep up. He was personable when you could get him but was often in a hurry for the next patient...Test results were given without much explaining and very little support/sympathy.
Billing was a huge weakness at [PREG]. We were charged incorrectly multiple times. Staff is busy and very little empathy was provided. Appointments were behind- if you came in for a 9:30 appointment, prepare to sit in the waiting room for at least 30 minutes...[nurse] was very rushed during visits. Communication wasn't great. Emotionless during a very emotional process.

Even though I’m part of the LGBT community and a single parent, he [Dr. John Payne] treated me like any other patient.... I personally think that Dr. Payne has no weaknesses. I wasn’t educated at all when it came to infertility, and after one visit I got a clear understanding of everything. He told me what I should be expecting the next appointment. He also educated me on the medical history of the sperm donors.
I mean everybody’s so kind and helpful [at Piedmont Reproductive and Endocrinology Group]. I didn’t wait that long to talk to the doc. I was late 30 minutes to my appointment and they still squeezed me in. The clinic’s atmosphere is so welcoming... They [the nursing staff] are kind and extremely helpful.

Dr Payne really seemed to have an invested interest. At one appointment, he mentioned discussing our care as part of a conference call. It made me feel like he was actively planning our care, not just going through he motions.... We have unexplained infertility. He took us from the least invasive to most. Hoping small intervention would work.
Overall I enjoyed my visits [at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group]. It’s one of the only clinics in the area. The staff were always friendly and would explain anything needed. It was a pleasant experience in an unconfortable situation. I would recommend them to others.... ost was around $12000 for the eg lg retrieval and one ivf transfer. About $3600 for each transfer after, not including medication.

He [Dr. John Payne] was nice and friendly. I have only seen him twice during the time of my fertility. During those times he caring and compassionate. I just wish I would’ve been able to see him more often during the course of treatments...I feel I would have liked a little more explanation of my options...I took Provera sometimes to initiate a cycle if it did not come on naturally. Then I would take Femara, have timed intercourse. Then I would do at home trigger shots

Dr. Payne was always very detailed during each appointment and was good with finding different options to meet my needs. During each visit, we went over success rates, costs, and any other information that was needed.... Dr. Payne was filled with compassion and was very concerned and optimistic about achieving a healthy pregnancy... After blood work and exams I started with pills to regulate my cycle and ovulation and then moved on to injections with the use of IUIs

He [Dr. Payne] was a very caring doctor that made me feel at ease and seem to love his job of making families complete. Best doctor ever and staff I have ever came in contact with....From the start I was treated with respect and compassion. I was up in age and he didn’t make me feel like it would be hopeless about having a child at my age. I drove an hour and half and didn’t mind the drive cause I knew I was in good hands.
The staff [Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group] was awesone and especially showed sympathy and compassion after my miscarriage....Mini Ivf was about 6,000 per round not including medications which my insurance carrier did not pay for....I didn’t not see any weaknesses. Everyone from front office to the doctors seem to love their jobs. Never heard any negative comments about patients or complaints which is rare. Best fertility clinic ever.

Dr. Payne is very thourough and kind. I don’t really have anything bad to say at this point. He seems very compassionate and understanding. I would have liked him to do my IUI procedure but the nurse that did it seemed to do a good job.... The staff at PREG is incredible. They are so kind and so nice. I feel like they are my friends. I wouldn’t be able to go through this without them.

John Payne has wonderful bedside manner, I never felt like a number at my previous fertility clinic....He was willing to try different drugs and different options due to not being able to afford IVF. He was very straight forward in our options and explained the procedures well and was positive at every interaction.... My cycles with Dr Payne consisted off Clomid and then gonal-f.... All encounters with the nurses/doctors was pleasant. Always willing to answer my questions no matter how silly they seemed.

Dr. Payne has always been very caring and informative...He takes his time and explains everything, and speaks to you like a friend or colleague instead of like a superior who has all the knowledge...my husband and I have had the initial testing and we are waiting on his sperm count to increase before we proceed with IVF. Our situation is unique and IVF is our only option...
The [PREG] clinic is nice. The front office staff is a little hard to deal with sometimes, but otherwise no complaints. It is off the main road and was difficult to find at first, (we go to the Asheville location) and gps didn’t help. But I called the office and she was able to help me find my way...We have had some issues with follow through on test results and getting our prescriptions called in to the pharmacy. But once we called, they always remedy the problem.
How was your experience with John Payne at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
He’s informative, thorough, and gentle. One of the procedures he performed during testing was flawless. I had the procedure by another doctor at my regular OBGYN and had a lot of pain and bleeding. When Dr. Payne did it, he was excellent and I had little to no pain and very little bleeding. He takes his time and explains everything, and speaks to you like a friend or colleague instead of like a superior who has all the knowledge. I appreciate that.

He [Dr. Payne] spoke with me very kindly but broke down everything that needs to be done in order to start the process. He took the time to make sure I fully understood and wanted to make sure I didn’t have any questions in the consultation.... I feel that once it is shown that a patient is no longer coming in they should be contacted. I had concerns about payments. I was advised I couldn’t make payment plan and to break up into two payments and to just come back once I had the funds. At that time I felt that more could have been done or options should have been provided so I could’ve kept going with my treatments.
[The staff at PREG needs to] Show more compassion and more options for financial options or payment plans. The staff is polite and very knowledgeable. I felt comfortable and welcomed when I did come to the office but I do feel I was brushed off when I did ask about breaking up a payment into two part. I didn’t even get to have the procedure done I was just told to come back when all funds are available. I didn’t return after that encounter and was counted until months later in which I voiced my concerns but never had anyone contact me again.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with John Payne at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group?
He spoke with me very kindly but broke down everything that needs to be done in order to start the process. He took the time to make sure I fully understood and wanted to make sure I didn’t have any questions in the consultation.

Very friendly
Describe your experience with Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group.
Show more compassion and more options for financial options or payment plans.

John Payne was a wonderful endocrinologist in my own personal experience. He listened to what I said and told me what he thought. Turned out he was right! After explaining everything to him during my consult, he mentioned that it sounds like I may have PCOS...I felt that he treats his patients as human beings during such a difficult time of their lives.
Enjoyed being around the nurses [at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group]. They helped me with questions and helped me to feel better about what was happening...I had one mishap that could have been avoided. I had visited one of the seminars where you receive $350 gift certificate. I had spoken with a nurse at the Spartanburg location about using it at my next appointment which was my HSG procedure. That office had told me that I couldn’t use my certificate so we ended up having to call the spartanburg office and they cleared up any confusion.

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
He [Dr. John Payne] is very caring. He called to check on me...He was very comprehensive with all explanations and makes sure you understand...is very smart and successful. He was trying to convince us to lean toward the more costly ivf procedure to better our odds. We weren't really positive it of it was necessary. But I don't have any complaints...We have completed all testing and had a polyp removed...
They [nurses at Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group] communicated and were organized. Sometimes you could tell they may have been very busy if a little short on the phone. But overall they were amazing especially compared to other offices we considered...$500 dep for polyp removed surgery $250 consult $17k total possibly for full ivf...They are a well oiled machine and it shows. They helped to make things a lot clearer. They always call back when you leave a voicemail. Its usually tje next day and that makes a big difference. They have answered many questions as they came to mind.

I never saw him [Dr. John Payne] on routine visits. He was never at the office. They never changed any protocol, it was always me saying: Let's try something different. Every time I had questions they had to route to him through the nurse. When I called with questions a nurse in another office would respond who did not know me or my situation.... I saw him about 3 times for the three years I went to that clinic. And every time I wanted to change protocol I had to route my questions through a nurse and they would get back to me. they never took the initiative to try other protocols. It was always me.
Nurses, front desk staff are all wonderful and kind [at PREG-Grenville]. The other doctors in the office are all friendly. Facility is clean. i do not think they are cutting edge. They seem to do the same thing year after year, not looking at new research or studies.... Everything was out of pocket, so over 2 years I spent over $10k on treatment, drugs and IUI's... Although he [Dr. Payne] primarily works in an office a couple hours a way, he communicated frequently with us through email and phone calls to explain with us the process and choices we had in treatment options....If he delays transferring a frozen embryo, listen to him. He knows when the uterus is at it’s optimal state for implantation to occur....Our second cycle we did PGS with 2 embryos. Only one came back genetically viable. We are now 33 weeks pregnant with the viable one. I recommend PGS to everyone.
I think sometimes there was difficulty with nurses [PREG] communicating with physician because he covered multiple offices....Although he primarily works in an office a couple hours a way, he communicated frequently with us through email and phone calls to explain with us the process and choices we had in treatment options....Our first cycle, which was not with Dr Payne, had to be canceled due to excessive gonal f reccomended and premature ovulation due to dosage.

Ask questions about your protocol. You may be able to save money by using less gonal f before retrieval. Our first cycle used 350 gonal f and cycle had to be stopped due to ovulation. Our last, successful cycle used 150 gonal f.

Dr. Payne were very responsive in answering any questions I had... seen Dr. Payne a handful of times while under his care, but he was always available to answer my questions at any time, or talk with him when needed. He felt very confident in his ability to help my husband and I conceive...I took Clomid ranged from 50mg to 150mg for 6 months, changed to Femara for 18 months 2.5mg to 7.5 mg. We did IUI twice, trigger injections monthly, and also added injectables at the end of my course.
Everyone [at PREG] was very helpful, compassionate, ans understanding! They all knew me by name, and rooted for success each month!...$200 monthly ultrasounds, medication costs $15-20, IUI $600, injections $50-650.....total cost of approximately $15,000...Small, family like office...Very organized and caring! Available for questions when needed, were there for you when you got negative tests each month! Very compassionate!
