Dr Doyle is smart, well informed, kind, and shares plenty of information. He was with us from step one, always encouraging us that we'd have great chances at a pregnancy. Even when we encountered setbacks, he explained them well and helped us chart next steps...We tried two IUIs, one with clomid and one with letrazole. I had a bad reaction to the clomid, so Dr. Doyle changed it up after our first failed procedure. We also found other issues along the way, and did two polyp removal surgeries. While initially we weren't certain if IVF would be necessary, as we continued to find polyps, Dr Doyle supported our plan of moving to IVF after just two cycles of IUI, and we got pregnant on that first transfer (plus we have many PGS tested embryos ready to go if we want to give this baby a sibling).
The nursing staff [at Shady Grove Fertility] was fine. All messages were answered in a timely manner, though sometimes questions needed to be asked more than once. I did feel like they were rooting us along, but maybe that they were overworked...We didn't always know how we'd get (negative) results, and sometimes got them via phone vs via portal message. It wasn't a big deal, but would be helpful to know what to expect...We didn't find billing to be incredibly transparent but that wasn't a huge issue for us.

Know that he will be there with you through the ups and downs, and don't be afraid to share with him if things outside of your treatment are impacting how you're feeling or how anxious you are. He wants to know, and will treat you and your partner with compassion.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Joseph Doyle at Shady Grove Fertility WMA (US Fertility Network clinic)?
Dr Doyle was fantastic. Even at a large practice, he managed to attend every single one of my procedures, and even called me to check in when I'd had more pain than anticipated. He knew me by name, and would warmly greet me any time he saw me (even if I was just seeing a nurse that day). He nearly cried when we got our positive result, and can't wait to meet our baby.

We had a great experience with Shady Grove Fertility. We found that being a large practice meant it was easy to get appointments, schedule necessary surgeries, and get questions answered 24/7. We do feel like we lucked out on Dr Doyle, since we had such a great personal relationship with him, but don't doubt we would have gotten good care with another provider.

We're still waiting to see - we had some insurance coverage but some things were out of pocket, so we need to figure out our final bill. We didn't find billing to be incredibly transparent but that wasn't a huge issue for us.

Our doctor was quite clear that with our ages and lack of issues, a single transfer was the only good option, and we agreed with him on that assessment.

Dr Doyle is a very empathetic, compassionate, and knowledgeable care provider who explained treatment options very well and took extra time and care to address all of my questions and concerns. He showed empathy when communicating disappointing news such as when one of my IVF cycles failed to produce a genetically normal embryo. Dr Doyle helped make adjustments for a second IVF cycle that was successful and he personally implanted the resulting embryo which resulted in a successful pregnancy and love birth and my currently healthy baby. Overall, I was very happy with the treatment and care that I received from Dr Doyle.
Shady Grove Fertility (Rockville) is a very efficient place- I was able to get in and out for blood tests and monitoring appointments relatively quickly with little wait time and they have many appointment slots available so they offer maximum flexibility and efficiency which is helpful. Given the large practice, it is not unusual to lose the more personal feel of a smaller practice however the staff and nurses were are friendly in my experience and a few even remembered me and provided a positive personal experience.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions because Dr Doyle is very knowledgeable and understanding and he will take the time needed to answer all of your questions and make you feel comfortable with treatment options and plans.

I believe that Shady Grove only permit transfer of one embryo at a time and Dr Doyle recommended to me to only transfer one embryo at a time.

There were a few frustrating practices of this practice when it comes to insurance billing and reimbursement. They claimed I was not covered for a procedure when in fact it was a covered procedure under my insurance plan, so I would suggest taking a very proactive approach to managing the billing and coverage with your insurance plan. Make sure you call your insurance to confirm coverage of each procedure and make sure that you confirm that shady grove is submitting everything to your insurance for reimbursement because sometime they forget to submit bills to insurance for reimbursement on your behalf.

IUI out of pocket was ~$1600...Too busy, especially the financial department. They have an efficient process which is nice, but it is impersonal and the wait time can be really bad (over 45 mins on several occasions). Their office is lovely and their technology seems very up to date. Many of the actual providers are very kind, especially the nurses and front office staff..

Ask questions- he’s great at explaining things and giving answers, but he doesn’t necessarily talk a lot about things unless you ask for specifics. The nurse gives more of the details.

Although the clinic over-all makes me feel like a number, whenever I’ve met or spoken directly with Dr. Doyle, he is very kind, affable, and never seemed rushed or dismissive. He’s matter of fact but still willing to explain things to me and answer my questions in a detailed way when I want/need him to. One time he even called me back after hours to talk to me about my misgivings from recommendations by the weekend doctor and nurse.

Ovidrel + IUI + monitoring of bloodwork & ultrasound x1 cycle resulted in 1 mature follicle, no pregnancy 5 pills of 2.5 letrozole, ovidrel + monitoring of bloodwork and IUI with donor sperm x1 cycle for PCOS - 2 mature follicles, no pregnancy 5 pills of 5 letrozole, ovidrel + monitoring of bloodwork & IUI with donor sperm x2 cycles for PCOS- resulted in 2 mature follicles and one mature follicle before IUI was scheduled Told me that with our next cycle we can do 5 pills of 7 mg letrozole for PCOS -

We saw him as he is the international doctor that sees pt’s for egg donor consults and he took the time to explain the program to us. And he did follow up when our results for donor egg retrieval were much less than expected.
[Shady Grove Fertility] Egg donor coordinator and financial coordinator were very helpful, caring and treated us kindly. Dr. Doyle was very nice and caring...When our embryos were being transferred from SGF to our home clinic, FedEx lost them for four days and all I wanted were answers and she stopped all communication...Unfortunately, the situation described earlier, ruined our entire experience.

I would send specific questions via email and had to ask them in multiple emails because she wouldn’t answer. Initially she was fine but she did not have a caring compassionate demeanour at all. When our embryos were being transferred from SGF to our home clinic, FedEx lost them for four days and all I wanted were answers and she stopped all communication. Nobody at the clinic would answer my questions. I just wanted reassurance that they would be ok for a those days they were lost and would stay frozen. Nobody would tell me anything. My husband and I spent four days calling airports, FedEx and the crypt shipping company. Everybody had a different story. We’ve been on this journey for 13 years and this week, when our embryos were lost in transit, were the worst and most stressful to endure. We paid close to $60,000 Canadian with SGF for donor eggs and then when something went wrong they washed their hands of us. Very disheartening. Gail was the only one I could communicate with through the portal and she just ignored my emails.

Be honest with Dr. Doyle. He will listen to you and understand. He will create a plan that will be in your best interest. If you need to talk to him, call him. He may not be available at the time but he WILL call you back...even if it is late at night. He is committed.

Dr. Doyle takes the time to call me personally on occasions that require more detailed information or when he may feel I may need some more support. I have walked into the office feeling really sad about not testing positive and he took the time to speak with me, even on a very busy day. He is kind and caring. He is attentive and he makes me feel that he really wants me to have a positive outcome.

I had a surgery to unblock one of my tubes. I have been on clomid, injections and the trigger shot. I then had 6 IUIs thus far with donor sperm.

Fertility treatment is not something you should attempt to do halfway... At the beginning of my treatment, I was focused on finding a doctor or clinic that was the cheapest or quickest. I wish that I would have reached out to Shady Grove and Dr. Doyle sooner, because I could have spared myself a lot of money, pain, and time.

I did a standard IVF retrieval protocol, using follistim and menopur and a lupron trigger. The protocol was decided on based on my age, and previous treatments I had done at other fertility clinics. 20 eggs were retreived.

I CANNOT say enough good things about the nursing staff and care team at Shady Grove-Rockville, particularly Effie Inbar. They truly go above and beyond for you, and really care about your success. Their communication, expertise, professionalism, etc. was top-notch.

Shady Grove is a huge fertility clinic with multiple locations along the Southeast. Despite being such a large operation with hundreds of doctors, nurses, patients, etc. I never felt like I was in a factory. All of the doctors, nurses and staff act with the utmost professionalism at all times, and are extremely communicative and prompt with everything. Actually, the fact that they are so large and well-known in the fertility world gave me a lot of peace of mind. They recruit the best doctors, and are up-to-date on all of the latest and best research, procedures, treatments, labs, facilities, etc. I never once doubted that my embryos were in the best hands!

I was an out-of-state patient at this clinic, so I had my monitoring appts. done at a different clinic off-site.

My treatment was financed through a third party company, as my health insurance does not cover ANYTHING related to infertility. I will say that I thought that the cost of treatment at Shady Grove-Rockville was comparable to what a similar treatment cycle would cost at other fertility clinics. But Shady Grove was much more willing to work with me in offering options related to billing, payment, etc.
Describe Joseph Doyle's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Shady Grove Fertility WMA (US Fertility Network clinic).
Dr. Doyle and Shady Grove do counsel patients to use eSET when the patient's age and statistical treatment outcome call for it, however, they ultimately allow the patients to make their own choice in how many embryos to transfer. I appreciated the fact that they allow you to make the choice for your own embryos. Some clinics take that choice away from you.

I have not had a chance to do the prescribed treatments with Dr. Doyle yet, but it seemed clear we will not have a lot of opportunities for further interaction unless somethingdoes not go right. He is young, smart and friendly. I definitely got the feeling that he knows his stuff. He diagnosed an issue for me that others didn't. On the other hand, he was obviously touchy when pressed for additional details and further information about why a certain treatment was indicated or not. He joked about it but clearly did not like it. So if you like what he proposed, and trust him - go with it. If you have a lot of questions or disagree, he's not going to adjust to you.

Nurses seem to switch off. They ate very responsive over the patient portal. No one provided any advice about how to get medication in the cheapest way or the timeliest way. I had tonfigure it out for myself and find the cheapest pharmacies and request that it gets called in.

Consultations were covered by insurance as was most testing (some semen analyses were out of pocket to the tube of $150 per). IUI will be abour $450 out of pocket after insurance, and simplest medications about $150 per cycle.

Information was lost when my obgyn faxed it over. I had to collect it myself and bring it over. I was not informed that my cycle would be cancelled because of COVID 19, I had to find out for myself when I called to schedule. Billing people did not know the CPT code for a test that my insurance covered and claimed it had to be paid out of pocket. I had to get the CPT code from my insurance company and provide it to billers.

I've seen Dr Doyle on 3 occasions; 1 consult, 1 follow-up after testing, and during 1 monitoring appointment for my 3rd IUI. He was very thorough in explaining the testing, the results, the treatment plan, and the odds of success. He was also very compassionate and positive when discussing the treatment plan and the failure of the first 2 IUIs.

It is a large clinic with many patients per day so my doctor did not perform any of my monitoring or IUI procedures except that he checked in during one monitoring appointment for my 3rd IUI attempt. The other sonographers/technicians/doctors were great so it didn't bother me that he wasn't at all of my appointments.

I felt like Dr. Doyle took the time to explain all the testing and treatments and showed compassion and positivity during a monitoring appointment for my 3rd IUI.
Describe the protocols Joseph Doyle used in your cycles at Shady Grove Fertility WMA (US Fertility Network clinic) and their degree of success.
My treatment protocol is up to 3 medicated IUIs using Clomid (75mg for the first IUI, increased to 100mg for 2nd and 3rd) on days 3-7, Ovidrel trigger shot to induce ovulation, and Prometrium (progesterone) vaginal inserts after the IUI until the pregnancy test. The rationale is that we conceived our first child on our own in less than a year and the testing showed some mild male factors so IUI would bring the sperm closer to the egg. He prescribed Clomid because I am 39 so the hope was that 2 eggs would be released at ovulation increasing the odds that one of them would be of good quality and get fertilized. We are in the two week waiting period for the 3rd IUI. The first 2 did not work.

As we transitioned from iui to ivf to reciprocal ivf we got to know him [Dr. Jospeh Doyle] more. He tries to do our procedures when possible. Says hi and comments on our cycle when we see him in the hallway.... Natural iui, 3 cycles. Medicated iui with clomid 3 cycles upping dose each time. 1 iui with clomid and gonal f. One ivf microdose lupron, had 6 embryos, but nothing made it to blast. 2nd ivf did estrogen priming. Had 16 eggs retrieved nothing made it to blastocyst, but transferred 2 that were almost blastocysts. 3rd ivf did lupron stop protocol. Had best response yet. 18 eggs retrieved. 2 made it to blastocyst. Had freeze all due to higher prpgesterone. Switched to reciprocal ivf. First retrieval for my wife was estrogen priming. Had 8 eggs retrieved. 3 fertilized and 3 made it to blastocyst. Preparing for my wife’s second retrieval in the coming months. Planning lupron stop.

He is the only reason i'll more than likely try again with Shady Grove. one our first try, i barely responded to the meds, eventually i showed about 3 -5 eggs and while most doctors wouldve cancelled, he believed that my age and my physical condition would result in two or three great embryos and Alas! we ended up getting 3 eggs and two made it to day 5.
Strengths [Shady Grove] - The Best in the area! top notch , great facility Weakness - You do eventually start to feel like a number. If you care about being cuddles somewhat it'll irk you. if like me you just want the best results, you'll remind yourself its only for a little bit of time... - Insurance paperwork was lost a few times and i missed a condultation because they wouldnt let me see Doyle with the paperwork that shouldve already had!

He is the only reason i'll more than likely try again with Shady Grove. one our first try, i barely responded to the meds, eventually i showed about 3 -5 eggs and while most doctors wouldve cancelled, he believed that my age and my physical condition would result in two or three great embryos and Alas! we ended up getting 3 eggs and two made it to day 5. Unfortunately i had to have an emergency C section to save my little boy at 25 weeks and he stayed with us a day before getting called to heaven. Dr Doyle was as affected by it as we were, two years later and he still calls to check in on us. He really is the best!

Be Open, discuss as much as you can. Ask questions when you dont know. He goes out of his way to explain everything and will whip out a pen and draw on a pad if need be! utilize his time and expertise.

My first time using the practice the staff was great , however i changed nurses twice and that made things somewat sensitive. i had to do alot of follow ups with the new Nurse , she might have been a newbie in the business. Dr Doyle however, is a true gem, straightforward, optimistic and empathetic. My second go around from start to end i felt like a number, my details were getting mixed up, call ins, scheduling, dr visits , everything was very clinical and this is on the staff side NOT Dr Doyle. towards the end of my second go Doyle called not just to apologize for the frustrations i'd gone through with miscommunication from the front desk on insurance coverage, he occasionally called also just to check in.

Memory fails me but if i remember correctly it was - Birth control Pills - Gonal F 150 then increased to 300 because i was a low responder - Menopur 25 or 50 and HCG. Both times were same protocol. However he would prefer to try something different when i go back because my LH levels are very high and he doesnt think starting with birth controls will be ideal.

My Last primary Nurse Effie was great, responsive and detailed. I got the feeling they were on top of things. The Nurse before her - i forget her name wasnt soo great and it was a relief when she eventually left the practice- she was terribly forgetful, couldnt remember my name to save her life! - not that it matters to me - i like results not pleasantries, but IVF is such a sensitive time i think every bit of being personable helps

Well oiled machine for the most part I preferred to go very early because of work , but i believe they are flexible

It was fairly reasonable with insurance coverage. There was an initial deposit of about 3500 and majority of the procedure was covered at the time- Out of pocket i want to say in total was about 5000 -6000 for IVF, Medications, HSG tests, ICSI(about $1200 or so ), Transfer. Embryo storage was 1600 initial deposit and 800 Yearly!

Doyle's preference is single embryo transfer, he will not only lecture you oon the perils of multiples, but will have you sign a disclosure that you were educated on the potential issues. Since eqq quality for me is not an issue, ive not yet needed to ask for more than one transfer.

Dr. Doyle is our end-game. We have male factor infertility and were referred to Shady Grove's reproductive urologist. After Dr. Doyle identified that our issue was male factor and referred us, it was unfortunately made clear that we would be on the long road. My husband's treatment will be about a year long from start until finish, and only then will Dr. Doyle and IVF/ICSI be on the table, but what makes Dr. Doyle so great is that he is on board for every milestone we go through with the RU.
[Shady Grove Fertility - Rockville is a] Great facility. It is clean and new-looking. I have never once gotten the medical heeby-jeebies from any of our treatments. They even have a pharmacy on location. The services they offer are all able to be handled in one place. It is great that both my care and my husband's care is able to be addressed in one location. It works like a well oiled machine without having the mass produced factory vibe.

Dr. Doyle is the most caring and attentive doctor I have ever met, not just fertility wise. His knowledge and compassion are so greatly valued during this difficult time. Dr.Doyle makes my husband and me feel respected, heard, and cared for. He is honest and proactive. I truly feel that he is able to help us and that he is rooting for us.

Infertility is so hard. Ask questions and kindly address your concerns. Dr. Doyle is a very good communicator and he will talk through any concern you might have. Speak up.

Dr. Doyle is our end-game. We have male factor infertility and were referred to Shady Grove's reproductive urologist. My husband's treatment will be about a year long from start until finish, and only then will Dr. Doyle and IVF/ICSI be on the table, but what makes Dr. Doyle so great is that he is on board for every milestone we go through with the RU. In fact, during my husband's treatment often the RU will leave voicemails for my husband and will not try to contact me (grrr) and Dr. Doyle will follow up with me when he sees the results even though he was not involved in the treatment. It makes me so confident that once we are eligible for IVF Dr. Doyle will be our champion. We are so thankful to have him be a part of this whole journey, and we are lucky that he is dedicated enough to care about our treatment even when he is not directly involved.

I wish I’d seen him for every appointment...Definitely do not hesitate to work with him if you’ve already decided to go with Shady Grove Fertility...The first HSG that they did, they pushed the dye too hard and my right tube spasmed shut, making it look like a blockage. As a result we canceled two cycles because they thought I was ovulating on the side with a blockage. Even though there wasn’t one. They still made me pay the full amount for both cycles.

I was also very frustrated that The team who performed my first HSG pushed the die so hard that it caused one of my tubes to spasm shots, mimicking a tube of blockage when they’re actually wasn’t one.

Dr. Doyle was wonderful! He was very caring and knowledgeable. I wish I’d seen him for every appointment. I actually know several women with “Docor Doyle babies!” Definitely do not hesitate to work with him if you’ve already decided to go with Shady Grove Fertility.

The final nurse I worked with, Effie, Was really amazing. She was very compassionate and organized. The reason for the low readings in this area, though, or that I worked with about eight different nurses in the course of my treatment with Dr. Doyle. Some were very good at their jobs, others were not, but there was always a lot of turnover and often they were issues with the handoffs.

They have a lot of resources, great office hours, and a large staff so that you don’t run into issues with appointment availability or service. However, they can make you feel like a number given the size of the operation. I then moved on to a medicated protocol [with Dr. Joseph Doyle] with a low dose of clomid, ovidrel trigger shot and progesterone support after IUI. I really liked this approach as it was aggressive by using the progesterone support, but used a low dose of clomid to reduce the chance of multiples. I only ovulated 2 eggs during that cycle and one was fertilized! I was able to have a healthy pregnancy. I also really liked that there were two ultrasounds early on at 5.5 and 7.5 weeks where I saw a heartbeat and could relax as the risk of miscarriage went down.
Each unmedicated IUI cycle [at Shady Grove Fertility] was about 300-800$ depending on ovulation monitoring. The medicated cycle was a flat fee of $1800 plus medication... Just be prepared to not feel like the one and only client at the clinic...I think the clinic's strength is that they have everything on site. It is a one stop shop for all screening and procedures. Because it is a busy place it can kind of feel like a factory a bit since there are so many people moving through the same procedures as you. However I found all of the nurses and doctors to be extremely friendly when it came time for a test or procedure.

I felt Dr. Doyle really listened to what I wanted and tailored my care to what I was comfortable with. I wanted a semi-conservative approach seeing as I was over 35 but not diagnosed with any fertility problems. We worked together to come up with a plan that we were both comfortable with and were confident would get me pregnant.

Be honest about what you want and your timeline. Make sure you explain your worries so he can give you the best information to set your mind at ease.

Dr. Doyle remembered me every time I went in, listened to my concerns carefully and addressed each one. We even exchanged hiking trail information because we had a common interest.

I did not want to be too aggressive with my treatment as I was seeking to get pregnant as a single woman over 35 with no known fertility problems. We had screening of hormones an antral follicle count and HSG to confirm everything was looking good. With that confirmation we decided on 2-3 natural IUI cycles and if that didn't work we would move on to a medicated cycle. I did three natural IUI cycles (the last two where my ovulation was confirmed at the lab with blood tests) but they were unsuccessful. All of our tests were negative. We had unexplained infertility. Since we had nothing diagnosed as being "wrong" Dr. Doyle suggested we try IUI first since my insurance covered six cycles. Even though they were not successful I'm glad we tried it so we can be prepared for IVF.

He’s [Dr. Doyle] very involved with your care. There was a time he even called me late in the evening to discuss my upcoming transfer. He truly cares about you and your overall health. ... Every experience I’ve had from the consult to fresh transfer to as recent of my FET this past June has been great. ... He’s great at communicating and answering any questions you may have.

I honestly have no complaints of Dr. Doyle! Every experience I’ve had from the consult to fresh transfer to as recent of my FET this past June has been great. I would recommend him to anyone. He’s great at communicating and answering any questions you may have.

He’s very involved with your care. There was a time he even called me late in the evening to discuss my upcoming transfer. He truly cares about you and your overall health.

For my stims prior to egg retrieval I was on Menopur, Follistim and Ganarelix all subucanious injections. After I was on Estrace and Endometrin. I had a 5 day transfer and once my beta came back positive I had to continue the progesterone until 10 weeks. For my FET cycle it was less medication. I was on Estrace and Endmetrin but also had to do an intramuscular injection of progesterone in oil. Which all medication continued until my beta. Once my beta came back negative I stopped all medication.

The only thing I felt as though was an issue is there seemed to be a high turnover of my nurses. I could start with one and have 2 more by the time I’m done my cycle. For what reason I don’t know. I think it would be a better experience if you had the same nurse during your whole cycle.

We did 3 rounds of timed intercourse starting with Letrazole and ended with Follistim. I had previously taken Clomid for 2 cycles with my gynecologist. I did not ovulate on my own. My lining was thin on Letrazole so we switched to Follistim for the third cycle which greatly improved my lining. I also used an Ovidrel trigger, progesterone and estradiol suppositories each cycle.
