[Dr. Kenneth Vu] is very professional, knowledgeable and experienced but also very empathetic , patient and personable...up to date with all the new treatments and laboratory technology...Follistim 225 and Menopur 75...used Pregnyl instead of Lupron trigger...recommends single embryo
[Labryo Fertility Center has a] Small staff but everyone from doctor to nurse coordinator and embryologist all with many years of experience...answer questions quickly...Office is very nice modern and clean, very high tech...nurse coordinator is very experienced but is very busy as the practice is a small but cohesive group
How was your experience with Kenneth Vu at Labryo Fertility Center?
He is very well read and up to date with all the new treatments and laboratory technology out there including embryology which my previous doctors could not answer most of my questions. He is patient and I was impressed that he reviewed my previous records and even corrected me when I was wrong about my past embryo results or meds dose at last clinic. He was not negative about other clinics but share his different perspectives and asked me to consider. He returned my call even when he was out of office. he is also very friendly and down to earth .
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kenneth Vu at Labryo Fertility Center?
Know about his experience and background, ask questions and share your concerns but allow him to share his information and advice and don't trust all things you read on internet. He looks very simple and humble but extremely smart and experienced
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Labryo Fertility Center?
He is very professional, knowledgeable and experienced but also very empathetic , patient and personable. I does not agree with everything I wanted but he listened and shared medical information to help me to make the right decision for me. He showed care and is very humble, not the usual fancy IVF specialist.
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Labryo Fertility Center and their degree of success.
I had ERA, HGH and many supplements and acupuncture. He offered to go back to basic simple protocol and that he did not see indication. I did not use HGH or ERA and no acupuncture with his treatment and pregnant. He offered no birth control or short 12-13 days if needed, then I started period and he saw me and started injection of Follistim 225 and Menopur 75. He offered Provera pills or Cetrotide as I used before, and I tried Provera saving me money and injections. He used Pregnyl instead of Lupron trigger .He recommended PGT and i did. For FET, I wanted to transfer two normal embryos but recommended trying single and I listened to him and am still pregnant. He used estrace pill and vaginal, Progesterone injection ( painful) early and vag progesterone but after I had good pregnancy, he stopped my meds.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Labryo Fertility Center. (Assigned nurse: Lupe mostly)
The nurse coordinator is very experienced but is very busy as the practice is a small but cohesive group. She had 12 years of experience from before joining Labryo. She is right to the point and returning my message and calls promptly. The embryologist Molly is very good and kind, she met with us and explaining. Other staff are nice
Describe your experience with Labryo Fertility Center.
Small staff but everyone from doctor to nurse coordinator and embryologist all with many years of experience. They work very well together and very efficient but sometimes very busy.
They answer questions quickly. The procedure was very well coordinated as they all had experience and work well together.
Office is very nice modern and clean, very high tech.
They will need more staffs with more patients though.
Dr Vu has limited hours and is the only doctor there but you get to see him every time and different from large clinic where you see nurse and NP or coordinator most of the time
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kenneth Vu at Labryo Fertility Center.
They have single cycle price or multiple attempts package. It is average compared to other clinics but I spent less because Dr Vu did not push me to do all the extra medications and procedure like the previous clinics with many adds on and surgery hysteroscopy .
Describe Kenneth Vu's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Labryo Fertility Center.
He explained the risks of twins and triplets and he recommends single embryo. I am glad I listened to him
It seemed as if Dr. Vu did not read my chart or was distracted during my IUI cycles. He was uninformed of my cervical issues and prescribed me the wrong medication during one of my cycles. It was very clear that he was too busy, which I feel was a reflection of Kaiser's protocols and not necessarily a reflection of their staff's care style.
Kaiser's Fertility Department was a rough experience. The clinic is expensive compared to other clinics. Support is limited and not personalized. Staff are overbooked and my appointments were always late. They were unorganized and continued to recommend IUI's when I should have transitioned to IVF, wasting my time and taking away from retrieving eggs while I was younger. I would not recommend them to anyone.
How was your experience with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
I was a patient of Dr. Vu's while he was preparing to retire from Kaiser. He clearly had one foot out the door. He kept recommending that I do IUI's, giving me a total of 7 medicated IUI cycles. Looking back, I wish that he would have recommended IVF much sooner because he wasted a lot of my time. He gave me the wrong medication during one cycle and I was overstimulated, causing my cycle to be canceled. He is a kind man but I felt their was a lack of care and concern.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Advocate for yourself. Do research on medications and doses before taking.

Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The team is clearly exhausted from being under staffed and overscheduled. Kaiser has unrealistic expectations and rushes appointments, limiting time for questions or personal interactions. The staff are kind. During a difficult transfer one of the nurses held my hand and was very empathetic.

Canceled a cycle due to clinic error
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The Doctor prescribed the wrong medication. This caused me to have 8 eggs during an IUI cycle and the cycle had to be canceled. Months later that same Doctor told me that we should have done an IVF egg retrieval instead during that cycle because I had responded well to the medication. It is upsetting to hear that kind of recommendation when it is clearly way too late.
Dr. Vu is very personable, is patient with questions and spent as much time as I needed to explain the information I needed...He seemed A little overwhelmed every time I see him but went out of the way to try to put me at ease with my concerns and questions. I would recommend him, most of my interactions have been with his medical assistants and nurses though. He seems lake a very knowledgeable man with many years of experience
I was supposed to start my birth control and that I would receive my IVF calendar [from Kaiser Permanente] on the following week. I did get my calendar within a day however the calendar was for the following month and I was not informed but I needed to stop taking my birth control for three days...I wish the staff had a smaller work load of patients so they could give more focused individual care. I will note that every time I call they ended up talking to a different nurse. And when I got my prescription calendar it was not clear to me as to when to take my medications. It wasn’t communicated to me until after the fact when I was supposed to have stopped taking them. Pay very close attention to your medication calendar. It’s your responsibility to make sure you’re taking and stopping them when needed. I just figured someone would have told me.

I was supposed to start my birth control and that I would receive my IVF calendar on the following week. I did get my calendar within a day however the calendar was for the following month and I was not informed but I needed to stop taking my birth control for three days in the car at Matt. I didn’t find out that I was supposed to have a break on my birth control until I had my appointment to go over my medication schedule. She said oh, you didn’t take a break in the air birth control? I I was never told that I needed to do that. Apparently it was in very small print on the top of the calendar in acronyms.
Dr Vue knows a lot in his field , however , he doesn’t explain infertility or IVF to the best of my understanding or my husbands . It was all explained very clinically . This is all new to us . We have been dealing with infertility for 4 years and he didn’t have any real reason why I wasn’t getting pregnant . He showed very little compassion and kind of hurried through the appointment
Unfortunately the IUI never happened as planned because the department who oversaw my husbands labs failed to tell us , the day before my procedure, that they expired 3 months prior. ... If this is the hospital and department [Kaiser Permanente] you want to go to make sure to be your own advocate. Tell them your symptoms and ask lots of questions. They are very helpful when it comes to moving forward, next steps

Make sure you do your research on all things related to infertility/IVF. He is a very busy doctor so be sure to keep your appointments with him and ask as many questions necessary
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
He made it clear he was a very VERY busy doctor with many patients in many parts of Northern California and that a lot of his emails are handled by his MA’s
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
Dr . Vue prescribed Menopure to me with ovidril. It was my last treatment of both due to the number of times I am able to do it , with a scheduled IUI. Unfortunately the IUI never happened as planned because the department who oversaw my husbands labs failed to tell us , the day before my procedure, that they expired 3 months prior.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
I have been with this particular nursing staff at Kaiser Roseville for almost 4 years .. while they show compassion, they are also very clinical .. never really offering advice or things to try(other than eating healthy and exercising)
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Kaiser is a global giant. They are busy busy 24/7. If this is the hospital and department you want to go to make sure to be your own advocate. Tell them your symptoms and ask lots of questions. They are very helpful when it comes to moving forward, next steps
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Based on my husbands insurance, ultrasounds were only $10 and medications $10-$20
However, his insurance doesn’t cover ANYTHING for IVF :(

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
I was on my last round of menopure and had my 5th IUI scheduled as well as an injection with Ovidril.
I took my Menopure/trigger shot and the next day was supposed to have my IUI and the nurse called to inform me that my husbands labs had expired in January ... they couldn’t move on with my procedure for an IUI and I lost out on that round of menopure .
As a patient I feel like Dr. Vu just doesn't have the time to help me/thoroughly review my case. I think he is very knowledgeable and kind. I appreciate his honesty and do think that he is an expert in his field, just suffering from physician burn out. ... I definitely feel rushed in/rushed out. I do not feel like he takes the time to review my results with me or goes into detail about the game plan. ...
Kaiser NEEDS more than one doc. The nursing staff is awesome but the clinic cannot function with one doc, which is why I am switching clinics for IVF. I think the strengths is that they are super nice, responsive, and are very compassionate. ... It is VERY hard to get an appointment ... I think they also need to do a better job with their financial coordinators and how the info is delivered to the patient. I just had someone call me and told me I needed to pay thousands of dollars asap with out much detail, which was frustrating.

You have to be very patient and ok with 4 word e-mail replies
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Dr. Vu is the only doc right now that Kaiser has in the Sacramento area. I definitely feel rushed in/rushed out. I do not feel like he takes the time to review my results with me or goes into detail about the game plan. Dr. Vu is very nice and very honest, I just feel like he is so overwhelmed that he doesn't have the time he needs for these appointments.
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
I decided not to pursue IVF with Dr. Vu and to go to a different clinic. Dr. Vu just did my IUI's and they were pretty simple.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The nursing staff at Kaiser is awesome, they have always been super nice and compassionate towards me. They also return calls/e-mails promptly. Just trying to get time with the doc was difficult.
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Kaiser NEEDS more than one doc. The nursing staff is awesome but the clinic cannot function with one doc, which is why I am switching clinics for IVF. I think the strengths is that they are super nice, responsive, and are very compassionate.
The weaknesses are that they have one one doctor. It is VERY hard to get an appointment, especially an appointment that fits well in the patient's schedule. They also have a five month waiting period for anyone that has not had an IVF consultation yet with the doctor, so I can only imagine how frustrating that is for new patients. I think they also need to do a better job with their financial coordinators and how the info is delivered to the patient. I just had someone call me and told me I needed to pay thousands of dollars asap with out much detail, which was frustrating.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
I was quoted about 17k for IVF and 6-9k for meds. My IUI's and infertility treatment was covered.
What specific things went wrong at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Lost paperwork
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The clinic told me that I needed to fill out consent paperwork twice, but I had already had 3 IUI's at that point, so I had definitely already filled out the consent paperwork.
Dr. Vu preferred to transfer one embryo at a time but said because of my age (38 at the time), he was OK with transferring two for a fresh transfer. He educated us on the risks...The part I found challenging was when I asked questions to get a better understanding of what went wrong and to come up with a new plan of action. After our first loss I asked him to run tests on me to rule out issues with my uterus, blood work to test my hormone levels, coagulopathy labs to rule out any issues before the next transfer
The [Kaiser Permanente Sacramento] clinic is extremely organized. They sent me calendar's with the medications I would take, dosage, and prospective retrieval / FET dates. If I sent an email or left a message on their line, I would receive a response by the next day. This made planning my appointments and procedures around work a breeze. Their shortcomings were compassion and remembering that we are humans with emotions not just a patient on their list to see or call back.
How was your experience with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
There is no question that Dr. Vu is an extremely knowledgeable and competent doctor. I had zero doubt in his ability to preform surgery, retrievals or transfers. The part I found challenging was when I asked questions to get a better understanding of what went wrong and to come up with a new plan of action. After our first loss I asked him to run tests on me to rule out issues with my uterus, blood work to test my hormone levels, coagulopathy labs to rule out any issues before the next transfer. He said everything was fine and that losses happen at my age. I went through two more transfers that resulted in losses before he finally agreed to run the labs. In a perfect world, all these test would have been run prior to beginning IVF.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
If you're looking for a doctor that has compassion for your journey, who will walk alongside you through the process, Dr. Vu isn't for you. If the human component in your doctor doesn't matter to you and your case is somewhat straight forward, Dr. Vu is for you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Dr. Vu saw several patients a day, he ran late every time I had an appointment to see him. He would dash in the room to do an ultrasound and then quickly leave to see the next patient. When I would ask him a technical question about medications, he told me to talk with a nurse. If I would ask him a question about what he thought my chances were or to address any of my fears, his responses were never comforting. He would reference my age and say that it's possible for me to get pregnant but that he couldn't guarantee anything. I wasn't looking for a guarantee, I just wanted him to acknowledge where I was in that moment. I felt questions weren't well received because of his time constraint.
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
The protocol I was on was called "The Poor Responder" protocol. He prescribed Gonal-F, Menopur, Lupron, birth control, and Ovidrel for retrieval. For FET, he prescribed birth control, Lupron(15u for 10 days, 10u for 16 days), estrace(2mg 3xday), and progesterone (1ml day, 5 days before FET)).
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Some nurses were better than others. One nurse in particular was extremely kind and compassionate. Her name is Laurel. She delivered bad news kindly and even called me to check to see if I was doing OK a couple days and week later. I worked with a two other nurses and my experience wasn't great. After my first IVF transfer, I experienced a loss. The nurse called to tell me my beta was "x" and then remained quiet on the line. I asked her what that number meant. She said "You're having a miscarriage!" It felt like a blow to the stomach and I didn't even know what to do. I asked what I should do since I'd never experienced a miscarriage before. She said nothing different, just wait for my period to come. Well, a miscarriage is not like a normal period. I had to call a friend to ask them if what I was feeling was normal. I wasn't prepared for what a beta was and I wasn't prepared for how to deal with a miscarriage. I felt no compassion about what I was going through and felt like a number.

Dr. Vu preferred to transfer one embryo at a time but said because of my age (38 at the time), he was OK with transferring two for a fresh transfer. He educated us on the risks.
Dr. Vu is very direct and blunt. I like getting all the facts, but I don’t like them delivered in a cold way. I would say he was a little cold. I also feel like because I am only 26, he really didn’t listen to my concerns or questions because, “I have lots of time and have a good response to fertility medicine”. It made me feel like he wasn’t listening to me and kind of just brushing me off. It was upsetting because although I am young, I have still been trying to have a baby for two years and it’s really hard and an emotional time.
I love Kaiser in Sacramento and I am continuing my treatment with them, but with a different Dr. They are fantastic. They are organized and really care about their patients. I think the only piece of advice I can give is that you have to be your own health advocate. I am the one that has to call and schedule my own appointments and ask for ultrasounds/blood work. They do not call you. Also you have to leave a message because they don’t answer their phones

It is important for me to feel “connected” to my Dr. because we see them so often, and they are such a huge part of our life during TTC.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
If you want straight forward answers and no sugar coating from a Dr. who is very knowledge go to Dr. Vu.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
I think Dr. Vu was very upfront and honest. He was very blunt with me. Some people like that, some don’t. I appreciate blunt facts, however I do like some sort of warmth. He didn’t offer a lot of warmth. I can tell he is very knowledgeable and really knows his stuff, but his bedside manner turned me off from him. I stopped going to him after two cycles because I didn’t like the way he delivered things and I didn’t feel like I could ask him questions.
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
I did two cycles with Dr. Vu. The first cycle I did 2mg of Femara and five days of Menopur with a trigger shot of Ovidrel. I had one smallish/normal egg and I did ovulate but I got a big cyst on my other ovary. So I had to wait out a cycle and when I came back I wanted to up my dosage because it seemed like I just didn’t respond well. He did not agree because I am so young he said he wanted to take a conservative approach and that one egg was all I needed. I did one more cycle with the same protocol and same results minus the cyst. I ovulated both times (confirmed by ultrasound) but neither time resulted in pregnancy.

Everything was out of pocket. Our insurance does not cover infertility so all costs are out of pocket unfortunately.
Describe Kenneth Vu's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Dr. Vu sees a lot of patients always bouncing from one to the next. I was warned that he is very scientific about the process, “ very doctor like” and gives it to you straight, which I appreciate but others have found insensitive. All I care about is if he can get us our end result, a child.... Dr. Vu was the one that really was able to explain my husband’s infertility issues with us. We had a private consultation with Dr. Vu and he considered all of our tests and labs and let us know that IVF with ICSI were our best chance.
The nurse case managers [Kaiser Sacramento] were wonderful! They answer phone calls and emails within a few hours or by the next morning. They really take the time to explain everything and have tissues ready when needed for those emotional appointments.... The scheduling process has a long wait list sometimes for transfer or egg retrieval. It’s essentially first to pay gets a spot. So the waiting was frustrating at times. Other than that, no complaints or comments.
How was your experience with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Dr. Vu was the one that really was able to explain my husband’s infertility issues with us. We had a private consultation with Dr. Vu and he considered all of our tests and labs and let us know that IVF with ICSI were our best chance. He told us IUI would be a low success rate and he wouldn’t bother. I appreciated his honest opinion and after my husband and I doing our homework we agreed. Dr. Vu describes my husband’s low motility with a great analogy “you trying to get pregnant naturally is like a team of soccer players with no legs”. Honestly this analogy resonated with us and it all kind of clicked for us. My husband and I are both sports people so it was perfect for us. The only thing that I would say was frustrating was during my ultrasound appointments leading up to egg retrieval, he would come into the room and wiz through my appointment and then scoot out to the next patient. He is extremely busy and I know this, but a tiny bit more time would be calming and appreciated. At my egg retrieval he was obviously more present and explained everything to my husband and I. Have not had a transfer yet, but will schedule for later this year.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Ask all your questions!! We all have a ton going through this process, speak up he is friendly and will let you know the answer. It might be straightforward but he has the answers to most.

Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
We were a make factor infertility case and I was already showing a high follicle count prior to beginning meds. He wanted to make sure that I progressed appropriately but also took into consideration that I was high risk for OHSS. He kept my meds at the minimum needed and adjusted accordingly. He ended up having us do a freeze all to try and avoid OHSS and give us the best chance for success. He wanted my body to have a natural menstrual cycle and get rid of all the medications prior to transfer the embryo.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. (Assigned nurse: There was a team of Nurse Case Managers. Kathy and Laurel were the two I worked with the most.)
The nurse case managers were wonderful! They answer phone calls and emails within a few hours or by the next morning. They really take the time to explain everything and have tissues ready when needed for those emotional appointments. At my egg retrieval I was slightly anxious and ended up having an allergic reaction to a form of penicillin and my RN was so amazing and compassionate when I had to leave my husband and go to the procedure room. She held my hand until I was out under. I can not speak more highly of the nurses!!

The scheduling process has a long wait list sometimes for transfer or egg retrieval. It’s essentially first to pay gets a spot. So the waiting was frustrating at times. Other than that, no complaints or comments.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
We did IVF with ICSI totaling about $12,000. Our meds were an additional $3800 after a rebate we received from the drug company based on our income. We then later found out we needed to do frozen transfer which is an additional $1690. I have been told that if our first frozen cycle does not result in a live birth, Kaiser will cover a second frozen transfer for us.
Describe Kenneth Vu's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Dr. Vu made it clear he likes, one healthy baby and one healthy mama. I originally went in with the idea that I wanted to transfer 2, he stressed his recommendation that because I am younger and very healthy he would only transfer one at a time to avoid complications during pregnancy. I am also pre-diabetic so he especially urged one embryo transfer.
I felt like dr Vu really listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. We built a great repertoire with Dr. Vu...He’s very funny and has a great sense of humor. The longer you work with him the more comfortable the relationship gets. He is extremely professional and works quickly, but will take the time to address questions and concerns at anytime if you have them. He will answer them so you can understand and use analogies to further explain his answer.
The nursing staff [at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento] is friendly and caring and will answer any questions you have...We paid about $10,300 for IVF, icsi was about $1600. Meds were about $5500...They sometimes run behind, but they are very nice and friendly. They are very busy. They have this all down to a science and they run like a well oiled machine. You do have to call and leave a message with your nurse, and they will call you back. It is hard to get a live person, but that’s because they’re so busy. They are extremely good about calling you back quickly
How was your experience with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
He is an extremely knowledgeable and honest doctor. He will be straight forward and direct and not sugarcoat things. I like that about him. He’s very funny and has a great sense of humor. The longer you work with him the more comfortable the relationship gets. He is extremely professional and works quickly, but will take the time to address questions and concerns at anytime if you have them. He will answer them so you can understand and use analogies to further explain his answer.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or connect with him and ask him how his weekend was or something like that. He is an extremely nice man. He works for a corporation that works him hard and he has to be quick because of that. But it doesn’t negate that he is extremely smart and knows what he is talking about.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
I felt like dr Vu really listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. We built a great repertoire with Dr. Vu.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. (Assigned nurse: Laurel)
The nursing staff is friendly and caring and will answer any questions you have.
Describe your experience with Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
They sometimes run behind, but they are very nice and friendly. They are very busy. They have this all down to a science and they run like a well oiled machine. You do have to call and leave a message with your nurse, and they will call you back. It is hard to get a live person, but that’s because they’re so busy. They are extremely good about calling you back quickly
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
We paid about $10,300 for IVF, icsi was about $1600. Meds were about $5500
Describe Kenneth Vu's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
He let me decide but gave his opinion on what we should do.
I thought Dr Vu was extremely professional at all times, he is straight forward and we both appreciated those qualities. Secondly, he was very compassionate and offered realistic aspects of hope for our situation.... Understand that Dr Vu is not going to sugar coat the facts, he wants you to have a clear understanding of your chances to the best of his knowledge. Once you realize that aspect, everything else falls into place.
We are happy with Kaiser... something a new patient would want to know about kaiser is that you can not move forward until you pay. Once you pay you can then get on a waiting calendar depending on how many people sign up ahead of you , you may have to wait a month to get on a cycle... they have certain protocols that are outlined very specifically and there is not much you can do about them....

He was very nice, straight to the point, and at all times i felt like i was with a professional who was being honest with us
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
Off the top of my head I do not, it was a long process. But I can say that I checked, and double checked everything we went through (with secondary resources) and at every point Dr Vu was explaining was right on point. Anytime we had a question, he was very thorough in the details of his responses

Describe Kenneth Vu's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
To know knowledge he did not, it was more adapt as you go kinda of approach. The more information he had (the further into the process) dictated which way the process would go.
Ask all the questions you want because he [Dr. Vu] is very patient and easy to talk to...We did the IUI the day after I got a positive ovulation test. At the time I was only testing for ovulation in the morning, and the Iui was done the following morning. I think the 24 hour wait was too long...Dr. Vu was to the point yet kind. He made the situation easier to handle. Of all of the IUIs I received his was the only one that wasn’t painful. I have a tilted uterus, so it is hard for the doctors to get a smooth catheter insertion.
A strength [at Kaiser Permanente] would be the amazing medical team and their expertise. A weakness would be their hours of operation and not seeing the same doctor every visit. Make sure you follow the instructions for bringing semen from home or else you will have to reschedule and it may cause you to have to skip that month...The nurses were very kind and compassionate. They made us feel comfortable and encouraged.

I have a tilted uterus, so it is hard for the doctors to get a smooth catheter insertion. I let Dr. Vu know that previous doctors had trouble and he said ‘what kind of trouble?’ While inserting and then I told him and he said, ‘well, we didn’t have that kind of triuble, because I’m already done and you didn’t even know it was in’!

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento?
Mr Vu was pleasant and kind. He was even able to make light of the difficult situation we were in.
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
Dr Vu found a sizeable cyst on my ovary the first month so he recommended we do not do clomid. The second month the cyst had shrunk to a safe size and we proceeded with the clomid. We paired this with an IUI because my husband has male factor infertility as well. Test showed he has very high viscosity. My diagnosis is occasional short periods. Dr. Vu had me on the smallest dose of clomid to make sure My ovaries weren’t being stimulated much, just that the clomid would ensure my period was long enough that an egg could attach if the IUI resulted in a fertilized egg. We did the IUI the day after I got a positive ovulation test. At the time I was only testing for ovulation in the morning, and the Iui was done the following morning. I think the 24 hour wait was too long. The time that I had an IUI and clomid resulting in a healthy pregnancy I tested for ovulation in the evening and got a positive and the IUI was the following morning. There was a longer opportunity for fertilization.

Total we did 3 months of IUIs and 2 months I’d clomid and the cost after insurance was less than $1500.
He [Dr. Vu] took the time to joke with me and make me laugh during treatment. He could tell I was very nervous and him taking the time to have amazing beside manner made the process so much easier. There was no pain with the iui he completed for me which is a HUGE plus!... I did a cycle of femara and an iui with my husband's sample.... I'm always very nervous for my iuis and he took to time to joke with me and make me laugh.
I love this clinic [Kaiser - Sacramento]! There was a little miscommunication during an iui with another Dr which almost got my you canceled but it ended up working out. The nurses are amazing and so are the Drs. Everyone is so compassionate and helpful. If I have questions, I can call or email and they set my mind at ease.... Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
My husband had a first result for Hep C come back but we were told they ran it again and it was a false positive. I went in for an iui and the Dr performing that iui was not happy at all about the fact that with a positive result we were still getting treatment with a document they had me sign regarding the results being positive. She almost canceled my iui but spoke with her director and came back with a new paper saying the result was positive but I still wanted treatment. I signed it and the iui was over. That was a nightmare/stressful iui but I know she did it to cya. My husband was upset and so was I. How could such a mistake be made, i have no clue. Some people have better bedside manner than others.
I really appreciated Dr. Vu's directness. He didn't sugar coat things and was very honest about what he felt my chances were with each procedure...we loved his sense of humor and ability to lighten the mood. He also took time to explain procedures to my Mother when she came to one of my appointments..I would not recommend Dr. Vu to someone who was very sensitive or didn't have a good sense of humor.
The only negative about the Sacramento Fertility Center is that there isn't always someone at reception to answer questions. Other than that I thought they were fabulous. Another part I wish was a little different is that there isn't much follow through after you have success. I with the fertility clinic was a little more involved after you become pregnant as it is a very scary time...My actual IVF procedure was performed by another Dr. and she was wonderful, I wish I remembered her name but I truly want to thank both her and Dr. Vu for our success!

Dr. Vu has a great sense of humor and really put me and my spouse at ease. The infertility process is so painful and he truly made it more bearable.
Describe the protocols Kenneth Vu used in your cycles at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento and their degree of success.
Dr. Vu was very direct with me from the beginning, he felt IVF was my very best choice for success. He did however walk me through the steps of the most inexpensive procedures to the most expensive so we started with clomid only with the first pregnancy, and moved to clomid with IUI for the second. My next course of action would have been IVF if I didn't get pregnant. I appreciated his honesty about my chances with each procedure.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
I do not remember any of the Nursing Team's names but they were always very professional and compassionate. One day my blood pressure was off the chart and the Nurse knew her presence was causing it. She walked out of the room and had me take the test without a nurse presence. I thought that was really great on the job thinking. My actual IVF procedure was performed by another Dr. and she was wonderful, I wish I remembered her name but I truly want to thank both her and Dr. Vu for our success!

Describe the costs associated with your care under Kenneth Vu at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
The clomid and initial procedures were about $900 with my insurance. By the time I had the IUI I was on my Husbands insurance and it was only about $1,000
Dr. Vu always made time to see or talk to me if I had any questions. I never felt like my questions were seen as dumb or unimportant to him. He made sure that we knew exactly what steps we were going to take next, what the possible outcomes were and what we could do following those outcomes.... We did IVF with ICSI. We started with birth control and then stims. I was overdeveloping eggs and so Dr. Vu altered the amount of meds I was taking and that helped a lot. I
The clinic [Kaiser - Sacramento] was wonderful throughout the whole process. I felt like everyone worked together as a team and wanted to do everything they could to get me the baby I needed. We did IVF with ICSI. We started with birth control and then stims. I was overdeveloping eggs and so Dr. Vu altered the amount of meds I was taking and that helped a lot. I was able to get 18 eggs and of those, 5 made it to blastocyst stage. I had 2 eggs implanted and one took. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento. (Assigned nurse: Laurel Meier, Lori Hansen and Christy Hanson)
I had one main nurse and then two others that I also communicated with. The nurses I had main contact with were Lori, Laurel and Christie. These ladies were what sold me on using Kaiser Sacramento when I was doing consultations. They were so friendly and hopeful and kind. In a situation where you are stressed and worried all the time, having a smiling face great you every appointment helps so much. I still bring my daughter to visit them sometimes.

Describe Kenneth Vu's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento.
Dr. Vu wanted me to do the eSET and I understand why he would have wanted that. After doing a lot of research we talked to him and told him we would like to do 2 embryos. Dr. Vu was okay with that and we ended up implanting two.
He [Dr. Kenneth Vu] was very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I felt comfortable with him. Dr. Vu was funny and knew how to lighten the mood while dealing with a very sensitive situation. My only complaint is that I felt like the appointments were rushed...I was the surrogate for my sister in law and brother in law. I was on birth control pills to synch up with my sister in law's cycle, estrogen pills, baby asparin and progesterone shots.
The coordinator [at Kaiser Permanente] was very helpful. She was really responsive and a great advocate. She didn't make me feel like my questions were stupid and when I had an excessive amount of bleeding after my first ultrasound after the transfer, she was kind and compassionate...They forgot to tell that I needed to give a blood sample during my appointments after the transfer and I had to come back after leaving. They were very nice otherwise.

I wish I knew all about other options besides ivf [from Dr. Kenneth Vu]. I also wanted to know more about making ivf more successful. I feel a lot of things were not explained and I went into ivf thinking it would work the first time which isn’t the case...I was informed to do fresh transfer with transfer on day 5 this is without a freeze all. Later they informed me it would’ve been more successful...Don’t just assume all patients want a fresh transfer that it will work...
I was informed [at Kaiser Permanente Sacramento] it’s high risk to do more than one transfer . Only 1 embryo would be on the safer side...Communication was great . Sometimes they seemed rushed for time . Dr. Vu always explained everything and answered all of our questions and concerns. He personally called me and explained my fertilization report which was unfortunately poor.I saw him for many other fertility treatments before starting IVF and he never rushed me into IVF. Very professional and fact base. He [Dr. Vu] knows his information. Unfortunately the group has no inhouse donors and it would cost a lot to go through tests again (even after you pick one from another company and they are tested there)...I went through IVF using injectables and donor sperm. I was sent a picture of the fertilized eggs (when I showed them to another fertility doctor at a different clinic, they were surprised they used them)
Small clinic [Kaiser - Roseville] that you did have to wait a bit to see the doctors. Very friendly and helpful staff. Not an up to date waiting room but the equipment in the back looked up to date. Bring a book when you come and wait because wifi is spotty and they have a vcr to show old movie part of the time.... I also had a diabetic nurse available (I was diagnosised as prediabetic and had to get that under control). I could call and email at any time to get questions answered.

He [Dr. Kenneth Vu] is very funny but also fast and to the point. Doesnt like to spend time explaining things to you if he diesnt have to...I think he knows what he is doing. I was very happy with the results but he didnt go over the grades of my eggs or take the time to talk me through much. He was very busy though I believe at the time there was only one other dr. Over all I think he was a great Dr and knew what he was doing
We paid $18,000 or a little more for Meds, retrieval and a fresh transfer [at Kaiser Permanente]...The clinic was kept very clean. They were usually running 20 min or so behind every time I had to go. The staff was friendly. I once waited an hour and that was the longest I had had to wait but I guess it's like most Dr.s offices...I usually saw the same nurse and though I dont remember her name she was really wonderful
