Success w/ Doc Too early to know
I've only had one conversation with the doctor [Dr. Kristen Cain] during my consultation and some communication over email. The consultation itself was okay except for when I expressed that I was committed to having a known donor. The doctor engaged less with this fact and spent most of the time explaining the process of using the sperm bank...Come prepared to really advocate for your vision of family so that they understand early enough the deeper why and can be more supportive upfront in you getting all the information you need early to make cost effective decisions
The [Kindbody - Atlanta] clinic felt a bit disorganized. The different sections of the company- financial people, family team, and doctors and nurses seemed to not always be updated accurately. A couple of times my notes weren't updated which caused some confusion when I was handed off to another person to take on the next steps...working with Kindbody has felt like pulling teeth to get the information and understanding early enough to be proactive and make the most informed and cost effective decisions
How was your experience with Kristen Cain at Kindbody - Atlanta?
I've only had one conversation with the doctor during my consultation and some communication over email. The consultation itself was okay except for when I expressed that I was committed to having a known donor. The doctor engaged less with this fact and spent most of the time explaining the process of using the sperm bank. And while having information about the process of using sperm bank was informative if I ever go that route, I had to reiterate towards the end of the conversation that I was committed to using a known sperm donor. She sent me to the family team to discuss more about the process of using a known donor, the usual protocol which I didn't have a problem with but the experience felt a bit fragmented. So while I don't think the doctor's engagement with me was inadequate at the time, working with Kindbody has felt like pulling teeth to get the information and understanding early enough to be proactive and make the most informed and cost effective decisions. Because of this experience, I've since learned through the many clinics I've had consultation with, that many clinics seem to be better setup to support people who want to use the sperm bank versus sperm from a known donor. All of this could be due to the structure, system, and industry regulation and standards across clinics and less to do with specific doctor or clinic. But I do think though, consultations and doctors holding the process should be able to communicate or acknowledge upfront where the process- due to things in or outside their control- may not align with their patients values and vision around family. As a queer person who is trying to be a single parent I think what wasn't understood was that my vision of family is more expansive than just simply having a donor who could provide genetic material. I'm considering my known sperm donor as an extended family member and that was the most important factor in my case. An individualized plan should have been setup with me based on this and discussed with the doctor and not just the family team before I started to pay for diagnostics, counseling sessions, and other services. So even if they didn't intend to treat me just as a number, the way they're setup is not empowering for the patient especially without prior knowledge and understanding about how this industry seems to operate.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Kindbody - Atlanta?

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Kindbody - Atlanta.
The clinic felt a bit disorganized. The different sections of the company- financial people, family team, and doctors and nurses seemed to not always be updated accurately. A couple of times my notes weren't updated which caused some confusion when I was handed off to another person to take on the next steps. For example, in my case the financial person didn't seem to clearly understand my case and initially sent me information about my insurance and paying for embryo transfers before I had even gone through IVF or created embryos. Another time someone booked an appointment for the wrong date and charged me for an in-person appointment when it should have been virtual (the PA I met up with in this appointment did apologize for this though). Also, after initial consultation I should have met with family team first given that I am committed to having known donor before paying for testing and counseling through Kindbody. I needed more support in understanding the entire process and most cost effective order of operations especially because my donor is not based in the US before paying for testing and counseling so that I could make sure that Kindbody could in fact provide the services I needed given my particular situation.

Dr. Cain is the absolute least professional doctor I have ever encountered...She also had her computer open the entire session and was getting message notifications consistently that she would look at while I was actively speaking to her...I got my blood taken and left with no next steps, no timeline, and not feeling good about my experience...I received no strategies or protocols from Dr. Cain as she did not follow up or show interest in treating me....
The clinic [Kindbody] achieves what it clearly has shown to be it's goals. The design of the clinic was peaceful and comfortable. Their online portal is relatively easy to use. I appreciated the attention to detail from a branding standpoint but for the actual stuff that matters (the doctor that's treating you) it fell extremely short...The nursing staff was top-notch. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and considerate at every step...
How was your experience with Kristen Cain at Kindbody - Atlanta?
tl;dr The Kindbody staff and clinic director is very helpful, however, Dr. Cain is the absolute least professional doctor I have ever encountered and would tell anyone trying to learn about their fertility to steer clear. I went to Kindbody hoping to learn about the egg freezing process and potential surrogacy down the road. The staff and nurses that helped me were friendly and prompt and made the experience easy. Once I got in the room with Dr. Cain it was a completely different story. We sat down and I explained that I was looking to have my eggs frozen for surrogacy down the line as my husband and I were looking towards family planning several years out. The entire session she had her computer open and was looking at message notifications she was getting. She shared with me a little about what my options were, a very very high-level review of what egg freezing process was like, and made a few notes on a handout that summarized egg freezing. I then asked a question about insurance and coverage. (Some background, I had previously called my insurance company asking about coverage and they said that depending on the code the doctor inputs, my procedure may be covered.) With this knowledge, I asked Dr. Cain what code she might put me under. She then went on to tell me how she "wasn't going to lie" and that she doesn't handle anything with financing. I was immediately taken aback as I had made no mention of lying and was trying to understand more about insurance coverage. I understand that the doctor may not be the right person to speak to about financing or insurance, which she could have stated without accusing me of asking to lie. She then said she wanted to have me get some bloodwork done, I asked her what the cost of that was and she said "it is a standard lab test that insurance will cover". I got my blood taken and left with no next steps, no timeline, and not feeling good about my experience. I ended up speaking with the clinic director to share my negative experience and she was understanding and apologetic and offered to put me with the clinics other doctor. I called a week later asking about my results and a very nice nurse practitioner spoke with me for over an hour explaining the actual egg freezing process (the timeline, medications, what to expect from my body, pain level, etc) All of which Dr. Cain never even touched on. After that call, I felt a little better about the experience and was still considering moving forward with Kindbody. That is until I received a separate bill from the lab that did my bloodwork that Dr. Cain said "would be covered by insurance". When I called the clinic director to ask about this charge she said that Dr. Cain should not have said that and she apologized for the miscommunication but she was unable to remove the charge because the bill came from the lab. That ended up being my tipping point of not moving forward with Kindbody.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Kindbody - Atlanta?
Do not consider Dr. Cain a viable option for your fertility care. She has no redeeming qualities as a medical professional.

Dr. Cain had a clear and cognitive plan for us...At the end of the consultation, she provided me her email, after hours phone number...I feel I can reach her anytime...she answers in a timely matter....She rec'd to immediately begin treatment, as long as I was ready. I loved that...made sure to reach out to me personally by phone to make sure I was mentally fine, and to walk me through any process or concern I had...She has given my husband and I HOPE that we CAN get pregnant
nurse practitioner [at Carolina Fertility Institute - Charlotte] Ashley showed tremendous amount of care and sympathy. Ashley would call me with my blood results and provide me with next steps. She was clear and precise. I always knew what my next steps were...I chose the Charlotte location, which does NOT have many doctors like their Winston Salem location...clinical staff knew who I was before I signed in. I loved the fact that at each visit the waiting room was not full. I liked the privacy
How was your experience with Kristen Cain at Carolinas Fertility Institute?
Dr Cain has exceeded our expectations! After 2 failed IUI's, within 2 years; at another fertility institute, I felt pretty defeated. At my initial consultation with Dr. Cain, I thought she expressed sympathy and listened to what I had to say, and took my feelings and frustrations to heart. My Journey has been 3 years in the process, and she definitely took that into consideration, I feel like now I have options. We both basically got down to it, and she expressed a clear and cognitive plan. At the end of the consultation, she provided me her email, after hours phone number, and I feel she has done more at her first initial visit than what was done for 2 years at another fertility office. I have unexplained infertility. I had an HSG, both tubes were good. I had a hysteroscopy to remove 2 polyps at my first fertility clinic. Dr Cain and I decided to move forward with an IUI w/ femara 5 mg and trigger shot, all which I was pretty familiar with. She rec'd to immediately begin treatment, as long as I was ready. I loved that. Why waste time? Dr Cain did all my ultrasounds to measure my follicle size and to determine when I will ovulate, and trigger. I saw the same lab tech that drew my blood. At each appointment I left pretty content, encouraged, and pretty realistic that my time will come. On the day of my last ultrasound on cycle day 16, I had a pretty good follicle size on my right side, she instructed me to go ahead and trigger and than come in 36 hrs later for my IUI. My husband and I were pretty happy as we have never achieved a follicle size that big! On the day of my IUI, my husband provided his sperm and my IUI was performed an hour later. Dr Cain was very encouraging, while leaving the office everyone expressed positive vibes. Two weeks later I had a positive test result! we were ecstatic, but also optimistic due to failed IUI's. I had blood work done my hcg #'s were pretty low, and I would go in every 2-4 days for blood work, and than on my 6 week pregnant mark, I went in for my ultrasound, and sadly a sac was not visible, Dr Cain was very upfront about her concerns with the pregnancy, she expressed such sympathy, I felt she was very concerned with my mental, and physical well being, as I will be experiencing my first miscarriage. I knew she was going to do whatever she can to help us get pregnant! I was told it was a biochemical pregnancy. She followed up with e-mails, and called me personally to walk me through what I may experience in the days ahead. With this being said, Dr Cain is not just my fertility Dr, she is my friend. I know I can always e-mail or call her anytime of the day and she answers in a timely matter. She has given my husband and I HOPE that we CAN get pregnant, as we did! even though it ended in a miscarriage, we developed new connections with people that I know are on our side. We are definitely going to continue with treatments at CFI and I know one day, our Journey will be reached.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Carolinas Fertility Institute?
She is not only going to be your Dr, you will also gain a friend. Very easily accessible, and willing to listen and help.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kristen Cain at Carolinas Fertility Institute?
Hello, My experience with Dr. Cain has exceeded my expectations. The first day My Husband and I visited CFI, and had a consultation; Dr. Cain had a clear and cognitive plan for us. Dr. Cain listened first and foremost to our individual journey. I immediately had a sense of a warm, and welcoming introduction to CFI. Therefore; My husband and I felt like family, instead of a "number". Through-out Our Journey with our first IUI with Dr Cain, she personally gave us her phone number where we can reach her after hours. When we had our first ultrasound at 6 weeks, it was determined that I would be experiencing my first bio-chemical miscarriage, as the ultrasound did not show a Sac. Dr . Cain made sure to reach out to me personally by phone to make sure I was mentally fine, and to walk me through any process or concern I had. Till this day, I feel I can reach her anytime.
Describe the protocols Kristen Cain used in your cycles at Carolinas Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
With my IUI, she prescribed femara 5 mg. The rationale for using femara is I was previously on Clomid and had a bad experience (with my 2 IUIS).. I had hot flashes, acne, and over stimulated ovaries. With Femara I had little to no side affects.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Carolinas Fertility Institute. (Assigned nurse: Ashley)
Dr Cain's nurse practitioner Ashley showed tremendous amount of care and sympathy. Ashley would call me with my blood results and provide me with next steps. She was clear and precise. I always knew what my next steps were.
Describe your experience with Carolinas Fertility Institute.
CFI has 2 locations. When i called to make a consultation appointment I was given the option to choose location and doctor. I did my research prior and knew who I wanted to see. I chose the Charlotte location, which does NOT have many doctors like their Winston Salem location, so when I booked my consultation appt, it was pushed pretty far out. A highlight of my visits to the office is they clinical staff knew who I was before I signed in. I loved the fact that at each visit the waiting room was not full. I liked the privacy. The waiting room has a restroom, and also a coffee/ water bar. Their examinaton rooms were clean.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Cain at Carolinas Fertility Institute.
My insurance did not cover my IUI, or ultrasounds. So my out of pocket cost was $1000, which also covered my husbands sperm analysis, bloodwork, and medication.

She [Dr. Cain] always took notes, remembered who we were at appointments, looked up things if needed, was very thorough in her explanations and went over a treatment plan with options and allowing us to choose versus telling us what to do....since I was having a regular cycle we opted out of medications and did natural cycle. She was open to doing things how we wanted...We only met with a nurse once otherwise is was Dr. Cain that did most of the stuff with us
[Sanford Reproductive Medicine] Has a quite and calm feel, different from the hustle and bustle of a regular clinic. The financial consultant is kind of out in the open with just a small make shift wall for a barrier which I feel would be nice to know if needed to talk to them. I feel like it’s not very private for the people having conversations with her, I can always hear the conversations while I wait. Children are also not allowed in the building, also nice to know before appointments
How was your experience with Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
She’s a genuine person and shows compassion. She explains things well and usually remembered who we were at each appointment. She was great with our IUI and explained outcomes and have the knowledge base to answer questions. She was also very experienced in her line of work. The only downfall is that she is leaving the clinic. However, she did make sure to tell us in person before we got the mail notification.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
Have questions ready at your consult appointment and be ready for lots of testing even if your OBGYN has started baseline testing, they will likely re do it all.

She allowed us to choose and since I was having a regular cycle we opted out of medications and did natural cycle. She was open to doing things how we wanted.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Sanford Reproductive Medicine.
We only met with a nurse once otherwise is was Dr. Cain that did most of the stuff with us. The staff that did our rooming process were kind and just asked a bunch of questions. I have spoken a lot over email and phone to the nurses more often then in person. They are extremely kind and have a great way of showing compassion over the phone when giving out less desirable news. They are quick to respond and call in a timely manner with results.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine.
I think costs are all very similar from clinic to clinic. We have some insurance coverage but still paid a majority out of pocket I feel. Labs have cost about 200-400, baseline testing was around 200, I had a saline sonogram which was about 400 and our IUI was close to 500. Like I said these are all estimates and with some insurance coverage.

With my clinic there are 3 doctors you can see during your fertility treatments but my personality meshed the best with dr Cain. She is a very compassionate yet straight to the point lady which I appreciate. This is a very emotional experience and I found some other doctors made me more emotional which I didn’t necessarily like since I like to show my emotions in private. Dr Cain is very straight to the point and answers and explains any questions that we have. I feel like she genuinely cares and will do anything to help her patients yet she doesn’t cross any emotional boundaries.
My clinic [Sanford- Sioux Falls] is very small and I had a lot of the same nurses all the time even though I was not assigned one specifically. I feel that they make every patient feel special and cared for. They learn names quickly and seem to become invested in their lives and interests. Thoughout our time there there has been many more downs there have been ups and I have no doubt that they feel the pain of their patients and are cheering them on in the background

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine?
She will speak to you as an equal so if you do not understand anything or have questions on certain terms or procedures please ask. She is very good at explaining any questions that we have bc there were times we did not understand terminology, medicine, or what the next steps were.

I do not remember specifics with regards to the exact dosages and medicine. What I do know is that my clinic keeps a very close eye on me and my levels. I never felt like I was not being cared for or monitored. They do recommend accupuncture during your IVF transfer and she was very willing to research the specifics behind it for me.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine.
My clinic is very small and I had a lot of the same nurses all the time even though I was not assigned one specifically. I feel that they make every patient feel special and cared for. They learn names quickly and seem to become invested in their lives and interests. Thoughout our time there there has been many more downs there have been ups and I have no doubt that they feel the pain of their patients and are cheering them on in the background
Describe your experience with Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine.
The clinic is a separate building away from the hospital so it offers a lot of privacy. One thing that I do appreciate is they have a sign on the door asking patients not to bring children. They know this is an emotional experience for us and babies and small children may be hard for some patients to see while they are there.. the staff at Sanford in Fargo is also great. In the two years I have been going there I have seen little to zero turn over. Honestly I do not have to many things to say about weaknesses minus the cost. I feel like what they charge is above the average but being in North Dakota we do not have to many other options unless we want to travel. They do however offer some financing programs for patients. I believe this is a relatively new offering there so I did have to ask a lot of questions to get clarity on exactly what is covered under the loan company and what I am responsible for.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Cain at Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine.
I cannot recall the exact cost of the iui procedures because they were covered under insurance at that time. For our IVF cycle I believe not including medicine it was around 20k for an egg retrieval and 2 frozen transfers.

Dr Cain was friendly and a pleasant doctor. She ordered infectious disease testing that I had already done in my past, and the results were in my record. Which was a large waste of money. I did 3 medicated IUIs with 5mg of femara with no pregnancies. I do not feel that that enough monitoring was done. I asked several times for testing to confirm when exactly I was ovulating, which was denied. She recommended continuing the same protocol,
The nurses [Sanford Repro Med] have a 24 hour response time, which can be frustrating when treatment is so time sensitive.... This clinic is the only one in the area, and they take advantage of it. Treatment cost is 2-3x average and success rates are below average. We did IUIs there but are planning on traveling for IVF. I only saw my main provider, DR Cain a couple of times, otherwise I saw whatever NP or Dr that was available.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
Do a lot of research on your own and have an idea of how many times you want to repeat procedures before moving on.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
Very generic treatment. Questions were answered with “most people”, “usually this happens”, etc rather than giving individual care or testing to confirm expectations.
Describe the protocols Kristen Cain used in your cycles at Sanford Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
Dr Cain repeated the same protocol for me. I ovulate on my own. Our only known issue is moderate male factor, 3% morphology, 20% motility. I ovulated 2-3 eggs on 5mg femara. Ovidrel trigger shot when follicles were mature and IUI 36 hours later. I did not get pregnant.

I only saw my main provider, DR Cain a couple of times, otherwise I saw whatever NP or Dr that was available. They all follow the same protocols and patients aren’t really treated as individuals. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. Particularly the ultrasound tech and phlebotomist stand out as providing great care.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine.
IUI was a total of $2,000-$2,500/cycle
Describe Kristen Cain's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Sanford Reproductive Medicine.
I have not discussed IvF with Dr Cain. We are planning on doing Ivf with a different clinic, but will monitored at her clinic.
What specific things went wrong at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
  • Failed to order appropriate test
  • Lost or damaged samples
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Sanford Reproductive Medicine.
One of my urine samples was lost. I had to come back to repeat, but I did not find this to be a big inconvenience.

Dr. Cain was very pleasant and always answered our questions as they arose....She’s a very pleasant doctor and always answered questions in a manner that was helpful and informative. I just feel like we’ve been forgotten since our last visit. We almost always had to recount who we were and what we’d done in the past at every visit.... To date I’ve had a lot of bloodwork, a saline sonogram, a uterine polyp removal, and several visits. My husband has had two semen analyses. That’s about it
I feel they [Sanford Repro Med] could be more aggressive with treatment, forthcoming with information and communication, and clear with clients.... Insurance paid for most of our appointments but not her office visit fees ($250ish). Our insurance does not pay for IVF...which we were quoted around $20,000.... I had a bout with pneumonia and was scheduled for a uterine polyp removal surgery. Unfortunately, the night before the surgery was cancelled by the anesthetist due to the recent pneumonia diagnosis (which I was healed from at the time).

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine?
Keep in touch with clients more. This is a difficult road and feeling forgotten doesn’t make us too eager to come back.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kristen Cain at Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine?
Dr. Cain was very pleasant and always answered our questions as they arose. I feel she/her office could have reached out to us more though. We were last there in October 2017 and haven’t heard from them since. I feel like once we were presented with IVF being our only option and we needed time to secure funding they completely forgot about us.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at Sanford Fertility & Reproductive Medicine.
I had a bout with pneumonia and was scheduled for a uterine polyp removal surgery. Unfortunately, the night before the surgery was cancelled by the anesthetist due to the recent pneumonia diagnosis (which I was healed from at the time). I understand the why, but I wish I hadn’t had to take time off work and schedule a family member to come help me on a day that wasn’t needed. It was a lot of runaround that could have been avoided with proper information.

she [Dr. Kristen Cain] was very Blunt she told me I was overweight which I am about 5 to 10 pounds overweight she also mentioned to me that it was my fault the treatments weren't working because I wasn't fully understanding how to use the medication every time questions were asked I would felt scolded and this enabled me to switch doctors
The clinic [Sanford Repro Med] was very quick about getting you in on a timely manner they have a very nice and calming space it seems very private and was easily accessible for parking some weakness is may include lack of doctors lack of communication loss progress of treatments and last time spent answering questions... The nursing staff was much better than doctor Kane they would ask questions about how things are going and actually showed interests and compassion when cycles didn't work
How was your experience with Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
Doctor Kane seemed like she had a lot of knowledge however she was not willing to share that information with us when we asked questions we felt as if my questions were brushed to the side she made a lot of jokes about the money that she made and enjoying time in her hot tub after our appointment was over she also made recurrent jokes about we might alredy be pregnant even though my husband and I knew that we weren't during our appointments she was very Blunt she told me I was overweight which I am about 5 to 10 pounds overweight she also mentioned to me that it was my fault the treatments weren't working because I wasn't fully understanding how to use the medication every time questions were asked I would felt scolded and this enabled me to switch doctors
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
If you like sarcasm and you're out of very good place with your infertility journey Christine Caine is probably very knowledgeable if you already feel like you know a lot of information and you don't have many questions she may be a great doctor for you however if you like to ask questions about small details or if you don't understand why treatments are not working she is not one to give you explanations and to sit down with you and figure out or troubleshoot a different way to provide services and help you meet that end result of holding a precious baby in your arms
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Kristen Cain at Sanford Reproductive Medicine?
I felt like my questions were never accurately answered and I always felt rushed in-and-out of the clinic like there were so many other people that she needed to see I also was scolded on multiple occasions regarding asking questions about different medications
Describe the protocols Kristen Cain used in your cycles at Sanford Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
The protocol is very similar to many clinics in the US 1st she completed a medical history of both my husband and I followed by an HSG and semen analysis's from my husband labs were also taken for blood after all of this information was gathered we had a consultation to discuss the findings and our next steps we are diagnosed with unexplained infertility and our next steps are to begin medicated cycles with timed intercourse appointments were hauled from the 1st 1 to 3 days of your cycle and tell cycle days 9 through 12 where they could monitor the egg size and determine when to do the trigger shot and timed intercourse follow ups are performed after unsuccessful cycles And trouble shooting was completed through mostly questions of the patient

Dr Cain started out conservatively with my first IVF cycle. She noted that I always responded well to femara, so she was confident about getting enough good quality eggs without over stimulating....She recommended ICSI, as I was older and evidently older eggs can be difficult for the sperm to penetrate....Dr Cain was always professional and honest. She took the time to familiarize herself with my history at each visit. She was compassionate and encouraging. She talked to me on a level I could understand, never condescending. I felt comfortable and confident under her care.
The clinic [Sanford - Fargo] is very well organized. No matter who I talked to, they always seemed to know what was going on with me. Everyone is friendly and helpful...The costs were detailed early on in the process. I don't recall the specifics, but it was broken down by office visits, ultrasounds, lab work, retrieval, transfer, and extras like ICSI...The nurses always communicated with me very thoroughly. I never had to wait long for an answer to a question or a test result.

Describe the protocols Kristen Cain used in your cycles at Sanford Reproductive Medicine and their degree of success.
Dr Cain started out conservatively with my first IVF cycle. She noted that I always responded well to femara, so she was confident about getting enough good quality eggs without over stimulating. Bravelle + Menopur for follicle stimulation, then Ganirelix to prevent ovulation, and Novarel trigger. Menopur dosage was increased a little when my blood estrogen levels were low in the beginning. I used crinone for progesterone. She chose She recommended ICSI, as I was older and evidently older eggs can be difficult for the sperm to penetrate. She retrieved 9 eggs, all 9 fertilized. We transferred two on day 5, and froze 3. Both embryos implanted, but one was blighted ovum. I had a healthy single pregnancy and a full term live birth. Two years later, we did a frozen transfer. For that cycle, she altered the protocol a bit to accommodate my allergy to adhesive. Estrace: Oral, 2mg twice a day, increased to add vaginal estrogen, Progesterone: Crinone gel twice a day, then later added PIO. We transferred just one embryo, upon my request. Again, it was successful, though we terminated at 20 weeks due to severe anencephaly.

Just didn’t seem like she [Dr. Kristen Cain] was on top of her game with my meds and the dosing and then she wasn’t the best about ordering follow up test for me. When we went for our first consult she seemed great but more and more each visit It felt less and less like that first consult visit...We saw her for 7 iui’s plus other visits for one year and she never once pronounced our last name correctly. There where times she didn’t even know what meds I was doing that round
[Sanford Reproductive Medicine has] a nice building. You are able to do some tests at other facilities and have them sent to Fargo. It is in it nice private little area. No kids at clinic nice feature. It’s a nice cozy clinic doesn’t feel much like a clinic waiting room...The nurses at Sanford were awesome! Very prompt at returning phone calls. And very friendly and always wished you good luck and had words of encouragement...Had a day where no one called me with my lab results

We did one round iui with clomid and then the remaining 6 where with Femara. I wasn’t put on metformin till I asked about it. If DR Cain wasn’t available I would see someone else and that was fine, but it was like Dr Cain never looked back to see what my medication dosings had been changed to the previous round and I would have to tell her.

She is a very kind person and you can tell that she cares. Dr cain exaplain how i will hit menopose early and there is no real reason as to why. She sat down at table with us and disussed all our options...I feel like she cares as a person. But we do not have any fertile coverage so I feel like they just set us aside a little bit...The clinic [Sanford] was nice and clean and had a nice homey feel. The staff was super nice and friendly. They are open to anwering questions and they call you back in a timely manner.
The clinic [Sanford] was nice and clean and had a nice homey feel. The staff was super nice and friendly. They are open to anwering questions and they call you back in a timely manner. For a weakness a downfall would ne that they do not work with any organizations that i know of to help patients get funding...Just some struggles with husbands prescriptions getting lots and not knowing where his meds went

Success w/ Doc Too early to know
She’s [Dr. Cain] very kind. We had seen her from the start, we did seek another opinion after the IUIs failed and went back to her because we felt more comfortable with her decisions. At Sanford she was one of the 3 doctors we felt with- she is no longer there now...Diagnosis was unknown fertility the first time in 2012 I believe and she said some day we’d most likely have to have do IVF. We’ve had dialed round of clomid, IUIs, and IVF took but we miscarried.
They're [Sanford Reproductive Medicine nurses] compassionate through the whole process and there’s no dumb question to ask...All the staff is very good to work with. They all know you’re file when your call or go in. It’s a clean place and as serine as they can make it due to the situation at hand. You bounce between the 3 doctors they have sometimes but they do try keep you with your main one as much as possible.

[Dr. Kristen Cain's] recommendation was a single embryo because research doesn’t show that implanting two or more has high chances of pregnancy...was always great and we felt she cared about our case...She was understanding yet explained everything in full and was very open about everything. She gave us the information we needed to make the proper decisions. When she decided to transition to a new clinic she informed us promptly and served us until she left
The costs vary [at Sanford Reproductive Medicine]. Our ivf procedure we were quoted about 14800 plus medications...Appointment availability has been great. They ensured I had a private area when we found out we were having a miscarriage and provided us with all the information. I think options for additional funding would be beneficial and providing options for grants or additional payment plans...Most nursing staff was great!...

Dr. Cain is willing to listen and work with you. She listened when we explained what we wanted and she was willing to work with us to get the desired result. She is very blunt but caring at the same time. She will tell you how it is but in a professional way. It is still too early in the process to determine if she is successful, but she has been nice to work with so far.
This seems to be a very organized clinic [Sanford Reproductive Medicine]. They are very busy as they are one of the only ones in the state. Everyone is extremely nice and professional. The staff is very easy to work with considering the reason you are in the clinic for a very personal reason. ... The cost is expensive regardless what you are there for. Insurance usually does not cover much if anything.

She [Dr. Kristen Cain] would always explain what was going to happen next in the process. She made some very insensitive comments during my appointments with her and never fully explained or gave us an explanation as to what our diagnosis was. I felt as though I was just a number and not a patient that she cared about...We started with femara and times intercourse for 4 cycles which were all unsuccessful. We then progressed to 3 IUIs with clomid or femara.
The clinic [Sanford Reproductive Medicine] was very clean and welcoming. There were couches to sit on and coffee and water available while you wait. There are no children allowed. Wait times were minimal. Free parking and easy clinic to find...She [Dr. Kristen Cain] would always explain what was going to happen next in the process.
