Dr. Caperton was always nice but after our 3 years under his care we don't think he did the best for us. I did 2 full IVF cycles, 3 transfers with negative results. I wish I had more information from the very beginning.
The clinic [Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico] is small, is on the S 1 level of Presbyterian Hospital, they use the hospital operating room, radiology, etc...All the staff there is really good, everyone knows what are they doing....I think they need to update their system. All the charts are in paper, nothing digital. They send you staff by regular mail and fax but not email or any digital system.

We are a family where one partner is transgender. Dr. Caperton asked questions about genitals, surgery, and our sex life that had nothing to do with the procedure or care we were seeking. He could tell we were uncomfortable and we even told him it was none of his business, but he still continued to pry. He needs serious education about the LGBT community and respect...Dr. Caperton was completely unprofessional. He asked questions that were wildly inappropriate that had nothing to do with our procedures or situation. His inappropriate questions were due to his own curiosity and when we appeared uncomfortable or avoided these questions he would keep pressing for answers.
The nursing staff [at Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico] was wonderful...The clinic is great...He [Dr. Caperton] needs serious education about the LGBT community and respect. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. We ended up going to the clinic manager to request a transfer to the other Dr. After the first visit.
How was your experience with Lee Caperton at The Fertility Center of New Mexico?
He asks completely inappropriate questions out of curiosity and is arrogant. He seems to think he is doing people a favor with his "gifts" rather than helping families bring children in to the world. He disgusts me.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lee Caperton at The Fertility Center of New Mexico?
Don't go to him, there are other choices for care in Albuquerque.

Dr. Caperton was articulate and forthright about the plan and likelihood of success and was very willing to address all of my concerns. He was warm and knowledgable in his specialty and he was able to quick diagnose my PCOS when I had 12 years of OB/GYNs who didn't diagnose me...
Everyone at the clinic [Center for Reproductive Medicine of New Mexico-Albuquerque] was warm and remembered me. I had one nurse the was my primary contact and was present for most of my appointments...They were on time, courteous, and excellent about getting my phone calls addressed efficiently...I had insurance that covered some of the cost so I believe the cost for me per cycle was about $250 for IUI with trigger shot

Dr. Caperton was always real and honest with me. He valued my judgement and cared about my needs...During every procedure Dr. Caperton explained in detail what was going on and showed me everything that was happening. Dr. Caperton truly cared about me as a patient and the truly cares about the creation of life. Dr. Caperton gave me the option of donating my remaining embryos so that others could have a shot at creating life as well. I’m so glad I did that. The whole experience left such an impression on me and my life. I can never thank him and his staff enough for the two (now not so little) boys that are my world.

How was your experience with Lee Caperton at Caperton Fertility Institute?
I saw Dr. Caperton in 2010. I had to go through the IVF treatment twice as the first did not result in a live birth. The second round went perfectly and I ended up with beautiful fraternal twin boys that are now almost 10 and just amazing little boys. During every procedure Dr. What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Lee Caperton at Caperton Fertility Institute?
Ask questions. Always ask questions. Dr. Caperton is very informative.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Lee Caperton at Caperton Fertility Institute?
Dr. Caperton was always real and honest with me. He valued my judgement and cared about my needs.
Describe the protocols Lee Caperton used in your cycles at Caperton Fertility Institute and their degree of success.
I remember that I had to go on birth control for a specific amount of time. Then I had to give myself shots every day in different places at different times for hormone treatment. Once my eggs were ready for retrieval, I went into the office and they removed them. I used the 5-day cycle as was best for my situation. Then after the fertilization process, he implanted the embryo(s). I had to wait I believe 2 weeks and then had to go for a blood test to check for pregnancy. The first time did not take, the second time both embryos took and I ended up with twins. I was young at the time (25!) and very healthy. The rationale being used for the different treatments were based a lot on my health.
Describe your experience with Caperton Fertility Institute.
I went to Dr Caperton when he was still working with Jim Thompson so I don’t think my experience would benefit current patients. I remember the clinic being clean and inviting. The staff was kind and compassionate and very knowledgeable. I never felt uncomfortable at all.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Lee Caperton at Caperton Fertility Institute.
I had an amazing insurance at the time that covered 90% of my treatments. I know, completely unheard of now. So my costs I think for both rounds were a little above $10,000 out of pocket. Insurance for everything associated with my pregnancy and the birth, the insurance company paid a lot of money. My kids were million dollar babies leaving the hospital after birth.
Describe Lee Caperton's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Caperton Fertility Institute.
I did both. The first round I implanted 1 embryo, the second round I implanted 2 embryos. Dr Caperton would no implant more than 2 because of my age and health. My embryos were high level/grade so I did not need to implant more than that.

We met with Dr. Caperton after being referred to the clinic. Only have done the consultation but already have a better idea of what is going on and what we need to do next. We’ve had terrible luck with doctors after living in a rural area with limited options. We had a positive first experience despite not finding out the greatest of news on my end.
Caperton Fertility strongly believes in SET...So far no issues. Like any doctor’s office, you need to be aware of what is going on. If you have questions be sure to ask. The staff has been great with assisting us so far. If you’re ever needing to know a cost estimate for an upcoming procedure, they’ll gladly let you know ahead of time so you’re prepared.

Great experience overall [with Dr. Lee Caperton]...Made me feel welcome...with my anxiety as this whole process has been difficult. I felt important. I felt like many other women may have a even more difficult issue and they still made my issue that much more important. Communication was key...I felt like a human . He was very kind and was very realistic with me. I can tell he was well aware about endo and fertility cases.

Dr. Caperton is very smart and attentive. He also knows that he is good at his job and can come off cocky sometimes. He has genuine excitement for assisting to build families. He gave us multiple visits to discuss our questions and concerns before deciding our treatment.... He gave his cell and always remembered random bits about our lives.... He strongly encouraged single embryo transfer.
This clinic [Center for Reproductive Med of NM] has a great team of caring individuals. They communicate clearly and don’t seem busy even though they are. They are timely and communicate clearly about any delays. We have never had any concerns about the clinic and highly reccomend them.... Nursing staff was always easy to get along with. Rachel the PA is completely amazing! She communicated quickly and with such kindness and care!
