Strengths [of American Reproductive Centers]: Compassionate, aggressive protocols, treated like a human, respectful. Weaknesses: Appointment times are a rough estimate...The staff is WONDERFUL! I have had very few hiccups in terms of scheduling, treatment plans, payments, etc. They are always so friendly and have taken time out of their busy days to really get to know me and my history.
How was your experience with Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?
Dr. Abdallah is by the book, which I respect and appreciate. He does not sugarcoat anything, but is also very compassionate. He speaks in numbers and odds, which is ideal for me at this stage of my treatment. He will take time out of his day to explain anything to you. I have found his approach to be aggressive, while always offering a conservative outlook. I would recommend him to any of my friends.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?
Ask questions. He is always willing to answer.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?
All staff, including Dr. Abdallah, have gotten to know me and my history personally. I have never felt like just a number in their eyes. They have never tried to upsell me or push me into any treatment that I did not want to do.
Describe the protocols Maher Abdallah used in your cycles at American Reproductive Centers and their degree of success.
I do not know the specific names of the protocols, but I have used a little of everything throughout my cycles. This includes: Lupron, Estradiol injections, estrogen tablets, low dose aspirin, CoQ10, progesterone in oil, progesterone suppositories, medrol steroids, etc. His approach has been personalized to me every single time.

Describe your experience with American Reproductive Centers.
Strengths: Compassionate, aggressive protocols, treated like a human, respectful.
Weaknesses: Appointment times are a rough estimate. Sometimes you are seen the second you arrive, others you are waiting for quite a while. I have waited up to 45 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. I now set aside the time accordingly.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers.
Describe Maher Abdallah's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at American Reproductive Centers.
Dr. Abdallah recommends transferring only one embryo at a time, as he states that transferring multiples does not increase your chances of implantation/successful pregnancy.
My visits with [Dr. Abdallah] were very quick. To which I wish I took notes incase i missed something. But, he seemed like he knew what he was doing...He was a great doctor, and with a slim chance of being able to conceive with IUI it happened on the first round. Unfortunately it ended up as an ectopic pregnancy. He did suggest IVF solely though because of my DOR (before I wanted to try IUI).
This [American Reproductive Centers] office was small, but convenient. Very easy to access even coming from 29 palms, the only downfall was that they were closed for a couple weeks I believe in November so your cycle and procedures would have to revolve around this...Everyone was so compassionate and after awhile knew who you were. From the nurse that prepped me for my room to the person answering the phones!

He first suggested IVF because of my DOR. At the time, that was completely out of the question for us because of cost. I wanted to explore IUI. It happened so fast I honestly don’t remember exact medications but the procedure was successful. The actual procedure with the catheter was uncomfortable but I loved being able to see the screen as he was injecting. It unfortunately ended up being ectopic though. Caught after about a month into the pregnancy and I was seen at my local hospital for this.

Dr.Abdallah is a great doctor. As a patient, I felt confident knowing what was going to happen at every step. As it was our first procedure, he made sure we knew everything going on and were comfortable with all the steps. When we went through a second cycle of IVF, he did not assume that we know everything. He continued to monitor us and inform us of every step. Because he has two clinics he runs, it can be difficult with timing, be he always makes it work out.
All of the nurses at American Reproductive Centers are amazing!...Our Retrieval and Frozen Embryo Transfer protocol was about $12,000 (not including the cost of medication). Our second Retrieval and Fresh Transfer protocol was about $10,500...This clinic is always clean and presentable. They have a lab and surgery center on site, so it is very convenient and accessible. My husband's semen analysis was able to be performed and tested on site without being sent to a lab. I live an hour away from my clinic and it is easy to get to and worth the drive.

Working with Dr. Abdallah has been a great experience going through IVF. He is very knowledgable and tailors his treatment with your body and response. Be ready to make frequent trips to the office for constant monitoring. Make sure to ask questions, do not afraid to be annoying if you have to! Dr. Abdallah has always been so kind and supportive.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?
Dr. Abdallah performs all the ultrasounds himself and is in constant contact with his patients. He personally called us to inform us about our developing embryos, after hours. I felt like a human and that he honestly cared. He called to inform me personally with the news that my transfer had resulted in a chemical pregnancy and he talked with me for over a half hour as I was crying. He was supportive and understanding throughout the entire process and really made us feel comfortable through this difficult journey. He helped us mentally and physically prepare for round two and helped us understand our options
Describe the protocols Maher Abdallah used in your cycles at American Reproductive Centers and their degree of success.
I was diagnosed with DOR at the beginning of our treatments, so Dr. Abdallah put me on a higher dosage of the medication for stimulation. I have an AMH of 0.8 at 31 years old. I was put on 75 IU of Menopur and 300 IU of Gonal-F for 9 days of stimulation. I produced 7 follicles and we retrieved 6 eggs. All 6 fertilized, but only 2 made it to 5-day Blastocyst. Before my Frozen Embryo Transfer, I was on three weeks of Lupron and birth control. I started E2 injections (1cc/ml) twice a week, two weeks before transfer. I started my PIO shots (1.5 cc/ml) daily, five days before transfer. I continued this until I found out my transfer resulted in a chemical pregnancy. My Progesterone and E2 levels tested great at all my blood tests.
Our medication for stims was the same on our second round. We produced 6 eggs again and 3 embryos. PIO started right after retrieval for the fresh transfer.
Describe your experience with your nurse at American Reproductive Centers. (Assigned nurse: Ashley)
All of the nurses at American Reproductive Centers are amazing! I was under the care of Ashley, who was a patient there herself. I asked her about her personal feelings and how she felt going through. She can relate and that is so important! I felt comfortable calling them multiple times with my many questions, and each time they were friendly and understanding. I never felt rushed, or stupid during the entire process. I also worked with Nelly during my transfer, and she is the sweetest person there! She talks to you and encourages you. I love the nursing staff at ARC.

Because I have low AMH, Dr. Abdallah suggested transferring our only 2 embryos. This also helped us save cost, as another transfer would be about $4,000 including the cost of medication. We did transfer 2 embryos both times. We now have twins!

Describe the specific things that went wrong at American Reproductive Centers.
One of the nurses, who was not on my case, sent me a lab slip for a pregnancy test which I was not due for. My natural cycle, for our second try, was canceled due to elevated E2 levels. I was instructed to take four weeks of birth control pills and to come back after to create a new calendar. The nurse was not informed that my calendar had been changed.

I believe Dr Abdallah is very knowledgeable, but is mainly in this area of medicine for the money. He lacks compassion and sets all patients on the same treatment schedule—there is not enough personalization and fine-tuning to ensure success.

Describe the protocols Maher Abdallah used in your cycles at American Reproductive Centers and their degree of success.
I took Gonal-F 300 IU and Menopur 75 IU daily for the first retrieval cycle. That resulted in very few (4) and poor quality eggs, none of which made it past Day 3 of development. When we tried the second time, I took DHEA and Co-Q10 supplements (in addition to prenatal vitamins and baby aspirin, of course), and Gonal-F 375 IU and Menopur 75 IU. We retrieved 7 eggs from that cycle, 3 embryos made it to Day 6 for PGS testing and freezing; 1 was deemed genetically normal. The transfer of that embryo went smoothly, but did not result in a pregnancy. I am devastated that our 1 precious embryo was not treated as such—the doctor never suggested ERA testing or any other extra precautions to ensure be chances for implantation, despite my concerns.
Describe your experience with your nurse at American Reproductive Centers. (Assigned nurse: Ashley)
In general the nursing staff at this clinic is scattered and unprofessional. They routinely promised to call me back or provide the documentation I requested and then forgot. I had to chase them for the basics. The lead nurse is extremely sweet and helpful, but not available beyond clinic hours, which often left me hanging.
Describe your experience with American Reproductive Centers.
They lack organization, professionalism, and responsibility. The clinic’s equipment is outdated and the doctor is routinely (and severely) late for appointments. The lead nurse is fantastic, but her supporting staff is constantly changing and have very limited abilities—almost every time I had my blood drawn there, the first nurse failed and had to get help from the lead nurse, so I’d get stuck twice and often bruised from the failed attempts. The front office was terribly disorganized and unwelcoming. If you call, be prepared to sit on hold and then have to explain what you are calling about multiple times.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers.
Each cycle (retrieval, genetic testing, and transfer) is set at $17,500. If the retrieval does not result in any viable embryos, the cost for genetic testing is credited to a clinic account (can be applied to the next cycle), but the cost for the unused transfer procedure is lost.

From the moment that I walked into that office I felt like I was nothing but a number preceded by a dollar sign followed by at least five zeros. It is clear that he will try every avenue possible to help you conceive. My husband and I feel very fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Abdallah from the beginning of our infertility issues and not had to waste any time or money on a doctor that does not intend to do everything needed to assist infertile couples.

1st round IVF - Gonal-F 300IU & Menopur 75IU daily for 2 weeks; prenatal and baby aspirin daily; Cetrotide; HCG trigger shot; I did not respond no eggs retrieved.
2nd round IVF - half dose of Gonal-F daily, everything else the same. Did not respond, my hormone levels for eggs is too low and I still cannot produce eggs.
1st round Donor Eggs - 6 eggs donated, Lupron daily 15 units; baby aspirin, 4 medrol, prenatal daily; Delestrogen .5cc twice weekly; Progesterone 1.5cc daily. Did not get to do embryo transfer, some eggs did not survive thawing the rest did not fertilize. Doctor believes the eggs did not fully activated before retrieval from donor. I responded very well to treatment and was ready for embryo transfer.
This facility uses ICSI to inject sperm directly into eggs which is more successful for fertilizing. We are currently starting the process again with a second egg donor.

They directed us to Lending Club to receive a medical loan. We originally opted for genetic testing which cost an extra $7000 so our loan was a total of $28,000. That included all doctor appointments, all medication, and all procedures.
Describe Maher Abdallah's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at American Reproductive Centers.
If 2 or more embryos are produced this facility will only transfer 2 at a time, which I would prefer.

Dr. Abdallah is the only RE in the desert, so compared to previous visits with a “fertility specialist” he was much more thorough and diagnosed my endo which I knew I had. He is knowledgeable and can be helpful, but sometimes you need to track him down for answers, or do your own research and suggest treatment ideas. I would say what Dr Abdallah offers is a “standard” fertility practice, where PGS testing and all the bells and whistles are offered. But often we feel like we’re on an assembly line more than patients with unique needs.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?
Find out all the possible treatment options after all possible outcomes of your initial treatment. If you have a CP or miscarry after the first cycle, how long must you wait until the next cycle, what will change with the treatment itself, etc. Its always an option to take your frozen embryos elsewhere if you don’t think you’re getting the correct treatment for your situation.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Maher Abdallah at American Reproductive Centers?
The waiting time at the appointments was often long, and the visit itself very short. The doctor typically doesn’t ask if I have any questions after the ultrasound, he just makes and assessment and says see you next week.
Describe the protocols Maher Abdallah used in your cycles at American Reproductive Centers and their degree of success.
We were put on Medrol, Lupron, baby aspirin and prenatals about a month before the transfer, followed by estrol valerate and progesterone injections, as well as doxycycline closer to transfer date. I’m not sure if this is the standard treatment or if anything was specific to my endo condition.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at American Reproductive Centers.
I’ve had a few issues with the nursing staff not calling me back after requesting insurance info or to ask the doctor something. All in all however the nurses are considerate and helpful during the process.

With the uterine surgery and 2 IVF FET procedures we paid around $30k for everything.
Describe Maher Abdallah's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at American Reproductive Centers.
This office seems to always push for multiple embryo transfer. We transferred two the first time (CP) and will transfer the last two next time. I’m not sure if this is to increase the odds of children born, or to burn through your eggs faster so you have to start over sooner.

We wish the team had been more accommodating on the day we got the results that our pregnancy was chemical. After my first egg retrieval we found out I had endometriosis, so we decided to treat that first and then do another round of IVF. After I did the Labre scopic to help with the endometriosis we did our first egg retrieval and we got zero eggs from doing a full cycle with Gonal-F and menophur. Dr Abdullah said that sometimes people don’t respond to the highest level of medication so we decided to reduce my stems medication for the next cycle. The next cycle I was able to get for eggs. My problem with the last two cycles and transfers is that my Endo lining Is very thin and we don’t know why. The next cycle we are planning on adding estrogen.

Describe your experience with American Reproductive Centers.
My advice to anyone going to this clinic is to know that since they are the only fertility clinic in the area they were very busy and that will show in their wait times. But they all love what they do and they do support their patients.
Toward the end, I felt more like a number. Visits were very quick, and I didn’t feel like there was time to ask any questions. ... I had questions about my treatment and what we might do differently to achieve success, but I felt like they were dismissed. He’s [Dr. Abdallah] very kind, I just thought he was very busy. ... We resorted to donor eggs after we tried a cycle with my own that didn’t make it to retrieval. I was glad for the opportunity to try. Everything else was very standard-like he used the same medications for everyone, no matter what.
The clinic is very clean, the staff is caring, and it was easy to schedule appointments. Everything is laid out ahead of time. Cost, procedures, etc. There was also very minimal wait time. My appointments were completed very quickly. ... The [nursing] staff is very caring and very interested in me as a patient. ... We have paid a little over $60,000 for all of our treatments. ... I was always given the choice and went with multiples.

They [American Reproductive Centers] are a very safe space, comfortable and inviting. They make you feel at ease and they make you feel comfortable opening up. The only thing I would say is sometimes they are understaffed so you wait awhile to see the doctor, however when your the patient with him he gives you all the time you need and you don’t feel rushed
