I have not yet made it this far. I am hoping for two embryos. I think we just tested, lowered my thyroid and went for it so far!
Michael Murray is great at explaining every part of the process so you feel confident about your next steps. He addresses every question and is upfront and real about finances connected to the process.... My age was a factor in developing a strategy for our procedure. He addresses it in regards to the duality and quantity of eggs without making me feel old. We began with pill medication before iui. Had a positive result but insufficient lining led to a miscarriage. We are trying another pill medication round (currently awaiting results) before moving on to ivf
Everyone was helpful, kind, and treated me as a human instead of a "case"... I never have to wait long after arriving to be seen. Everyone is friendly. The facilities [Northern California Fertility Medical Center] are clean and up to date. Sometimes the conversations on the phone are matter of fact and directive instead of friendly and understanding.... Doctor consult was $90. Each round included two ultrasounds and 1-2 iui at around $1000. Plus HCG shot at $90 and pill meds at around $20

Dr. Murray was always polite and professional. He always had a smile on his face and was very welcoming. Dr. Murray always explained all our options and advised us and his recommendations but allowed us to make our own ultimate decision...We did a chemical egg retrieval. Followed by the use of ICSI due to my husbands fertility. post retrieval the embryos grew for two weeks in order to complete pre-genetic testing. During the testing phase the embryos were frozen until implantation. We then did a natural implantation cycle with a single embryo selection. We had one additional embryo that remains and that embryo is currently frozen.

Dr. Murray has given us inspiration that we have a chance to get pregnant. He's absolutely professional and his credibility has allowed us to lean on his expertise... We started with a laparoscopic surgery in 2015 and attempted two IUIs that were cancelled to my body not responding to the medications. We found a uterine polyp in 2017 and had it surgically removed by Dr. Murray. When we are ready and have enough money, we'll happily move forward with a frozen embryo IVF cycle and hope for the best.

Be ready to get all of the information: the good, the bad and the ugly. He [Dr. Michael Murray] doesn't sugarcoat things, which I appreciated. He wants you to be ready for almost any outcome...I feel like Dr Murray is all strengths, no weaknesses. He was very compassionate and made sure to address any concerns we might have had along the way. If that in involved education, he provided us with educational materials. When we had to make adjustments to our cycle because my ovaries weren't responding to oral medication, he understood my frustration and emotional reactions.
Miriam was the person I leaned on the most. When our first transfer was unsuccessful, she was the person I called when I had to stop my injections and had a period. I felt lost and alone. Miriam was there to center me and keep me focused on the end goal.

9 years ago my work didn't cover any fertility so to have my daughter cost us around $6000 and 3 years ago it cost us about the same but without a pregnancy. We could only afford two times and we had 50% coverage through insurance but the price of sperm went up since the last time when we got pregnant.
Dr. Murray was easy understand and always answered my questions fully. He also was forthcoming with information regarding the process, risks, and potential outcomes. I felt very much taken care of and on the right path to achieve pregnancy. ... I have PCOS and we used a combination of oral and injectable hormones. I always went longer than expected to achieve mature size follicles.
They [NCFMC] are a busy office but I never felt rushed! I would say that their front desk is not as friendly as those staff members in the back but that's okay because the ones in the back are who you work with. ... Wendy was always able to answer my questions and work with my crazy schedule. we live 6hrs from the clinic so appointment dates and times could sometimes be challenging. She was so compassionate and cared about my well being and success

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
The consult will be lengthy but educational.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
Dr. Murray and his staff are very compassionate! I felt like each person I interacted with knew my case and genuinely cared regarding my outcome.
Describe the protocols Michael Murray used in your cycles at Northern California Fertility Medical Center and their degree of success.
I have PCOS and we used a combination of oral and injectable hormones. I always went longer than expected to achieve mature size follicles. The staff was patient and effective when changing dosages. I have not achieved pregnancy yet through IUI or IVF but we have a new protocol for next retrieval. Due to PCOS my egg quality is low so I'm changing my diet and we will increase the types of vitamins I will use prior to retrieval.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northern California Fertility Medical Center. (Assigned nurse: Wendy)
Wendy was always able to answer my questions and work with my crazy schedule. we live 6hrs from the clinic so appointment dates and times could sometimes be challenging. She was so compassionate and cared about my well being and success.
Describe your experience with Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
They are a busy office but I never felt rushed! I would say that their front desk is not as friendly as those staff members in the back but that's okay because the ones in the back are who you work with.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
The costs were comparable with what my research had said. They have finance options if needed. We opted to just pay in full as the bills came due.
Describe Michael Murray's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
We opted for the genetic testing in order to transfer the best embryo we could. I would high recommend it. Through this process we learned that all embryos appear from 1 was abnormal. After this news we only had 1 to transfer. We had discussed the transfer of multiple a few times and always came back to the conclusion it would be safer for me and baby if we had a single baby. These conversations were great and Dr. Murray was always willing to discuss.
Dr. Murray has always done a very good job of discussing our treatment with BOTH of us, rather than just with me ... That said, it does feel like treatment there is "one size fits all," which obviously isn't always the case. ... I was very disappointed with the recommendation of using suppositories again when they didn't work well for me during my IUI. ... Dr. Murray was adamant that we transfer one embryo because it was tested as PGS normal and because of my age (33).
I like that the clinic [Northern California Fertility Medical Center] is open early - I can regularly get 7:30 appointments - which is important since I live quite a ways out of town. They aren't super clear about when things like payment is due - you really have to manage that part on your own. ... IUI was REALLY expensive compared to what I've seen elsewhere - $2500 or something. ... The medical assistants aren't always amazing but Alyssa, my nurse, has always been super communicative
How was your experience with Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
Dr. Murray is great at working with you to make sure you understand what is going on with your treatment - explaining in terms that both partners understand.
That said, I don't feel like they have always been great at adjusting treatment as things change - when I didn't react as expected to the progesterone suppositories during my IUI, they still used the same progesterone suppository protocol during my FET, which I really feel contributed to the failure of that cycle.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
Be prepared to advocate for yourself, and request repeat tests of anything that hasn't been done in the last six months. We wasted time on an IUI that was based on an out-dated semen analysis that showed we didn't have MFI, when in reality we do.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
Dr. Murray has always done a very good job of discussing our treatment with BOTH of us, rather than just with me, which hasn't been the case with all the doctors at the clinic. He makes my partner feel very much part of the equation.
That said, it does feel like treatment there is "one size fits all," which obviously isn't always the case.
Describe the protocols Michael Murray used in your cycles at Northern California Fertility Medical Center and their degree of success.
IVF retrieval cycle was gonal-f and menopur, then cetrotide. Transfer cycle was letrozole days 3-7, gonal-f days 7-12, trigger day 12, transfer the following week, with antibiotics and prednisone before transfer, with progesterone suppositories after transfer. I've always ovulated on my own and had a good lining so that part was never a concern, but as I'd stated, I was very disappointed with the recommendation of using suppositories again when they didn't work well for me during my IUI.
Describe your experience with your nurse at Northern California Fertility Medical Center. (Assigned nurse: Alyssa)
The medical assistants aren't always amazing but Alyssa, my nurse, has always been super communicative and very on top of any of my questions (which...I've had a lot of them). I appreciate how she answers my questions using scientific terms rather than dumbing things down - she understands that I am fairly knowledgeable about the whole process and speaks to me accordingly.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
$13350 for the IVF retrieval cycle. $1750 for the first transfer, I think it is $3500 for any subsequent transfer. Retrieval cycles are cheaper after the first one (second retrieval is $12350, third is $10350?). IUI was REALLY expensive compared to what I've seen elsewhere - $2500 or something.
Describe Michael Murray's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
Dr. Murray was adamant that we transfer one embryo because it was tested as PGS normal and because of my age (33). They don't do multiple transfers unless you are much older and haven't tested the embryos.
What specific things went wrong at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
Failed to order appropriate test
Describe the specific things that went wrong at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
There were a couple of times when the doctors didn't really talk to BOTH of us during appointments, which I didn't appreciate - they treated my partner like some kind of afterthought.
There was also the day where we took in a semen sample, and the medical assistant took it out of the bag, and viewed it and was very judgmental about the size of the sample in the middle of the hallway in front of other patients.
My experience has Been so good with dr Murray. ... But after every cycle he has a new plan of medications/genetic testing/ and even try triggering one day earlier to adding in human growth hormones. How was your experience with Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center?
My experience has Been so good with dr Murray. He understands what his patient is going through when a cycle or maybe even a few don’t go the way we hoped for. But after every cycle he has a new plan of medications/genetic testing/ and even try triggering one day earlier to adding in human growth hormones. Love the fact that you can email him directly AND HE REPLIES BACK!! :). Due to the distance that I am from the clinic he calls me directly to have phone conversations regarding the next plan. I would definitely refer him to someone having issues with trying to conceive. Dr Murray has. A strong passion for what he does. And I love that. Sorry for any errors typed all of this on my phone.

My first egg retrieval. I believe 19 were retrieved or 23. A few embryos. Transferred one -didn’t take. Transferred two more didn’t take. My 2nd cycle there dr Murray changed up my medication were 11 retrieved I believed 1-2 embryos we had them genetically tested came back abnormal. This was a hard point for me I thought I was done trying. Just had my third retrieval done in December 20 eggs 5 embryos that passed the genetic testing!! This process had more medication involved. My embryo transfer is tomorrow

Dr Murray was great. Just before our scheduled Egg retrieval things didn’t go as planned. We only had 5 follicles and only 3 were fully matured. Dr Murray recommended changing our treatment plan to IUI due to the lack of eggs. We chose to trust Dr Murray’s judgement and proceeded with the IUI treatment. We now have a beautiful 9 month old daughter thanks to Dr Murray and his team [NCFMC]!
The clinic was always extremely clean and very nice inside. The rooms are all in great shape and had top-of-the-line equipment. The only thing that we ever had any difficulties with was getting in contact with the financial dept. ... The overall team is amazing, from doctors to nurses and general staff everyone made you feel at home and like you are important.

Describe the protocols Michael Murray used in your cycles at Northern California Fertility Medical Center and their degree of success.
We started our journey planning to do IVF. As we travel down the road of treatment we soon found that our follicle count had dropped. Having a low number of follicles, only five. Three of which were sustainable we decided to change our treatment to IUI. A week later we completed the IUI treatment. We thought it didn’t work as my wife started what we thought was her period. We ran test and began another round of medications but when we went for our next ultrasound to check ovaries we found we were pregnant instead.

After retrieving the eggs I started 2mg estrace 3x a day, combo progesterone supp vaginal once a day and 50mg progesterone Im once a day. Describe Michael Murray's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
After my 15wk loss of my twin pregnancy related to IC we agreed only transferring one embryo at a time. We did a FET of 1 embryo and dis not get pregnant. Our remaining 2 embryos were of low quality and frozen together. We discussed the risk factors with Dr. Murray about a multiple pregnancy. It was also noted that because of the quality of we only transferred one embryo the 2nd one would most likely not be viable to freeze and redefrost for another fet at a later date. We transferred both and ended up with healthy twin girls in Nov 2018.

The doctor treated me like a human but the financial department treated me like a number.
Describe the protocols Michael Murray used in your cycles at Northern California Fertility Medical Center and their degree of success.
Because of several surgeries that I had as an infant, my Fallopian tubes were damaged and lots of scare tissue surrounded my ovaries and mangled tubes. I also had fibroid tumors in my uterus. In March, Dr. Murray performed a surgery to clean up the scar tissue and mangled Fallopian tubes. He also took out the fibroid tumors that he could get to in my uterus. Then in June, I was able to start doing shots for egg retrieval.

She did a great job making me feel comfortable and confident with all aspects of the treatments. Even after I had a confirmed pregnancy and had been released from the clinic's care, I wasn't feeling right and my nurse called me right back and got me an appointment that same morning that I called.

I really felt like each of the doctor's took care of me during each of my visits. Even if I didn't see my primary doctor, I felt like the doctor's did an excellent job communicating with each other. The nurses that helped me were wonderful and went out of their way to try to keep me comfortable. The only time when I felt a little disappointed with the clinic, was at the very beginning when we were talking to the financial department. The person that we spoke with did not seem very compassionate talking about the money involved in this process. IVF was the absolute only way for us to have a child and there is a lot of money involved. A little more understanding and empathy for the cost would have been nice.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Michael Murray at Northern California Fertility Medical Center.
We did IVF about three years ago. I had to have a surgery before we could start any of the treatments. That surgery was covered by my insurance after I met my deductible. Then I began shots and ordered the drugs from a pharmacy from southern California. We spent approximately $6,000 on drugs throughout the process. After we the egg retrieval we then did ICSI which was an additional charge of $1500. The rest of the treatments cost us around $10,000.

They [NCFMC] are wonderful. The paperwork side seems a but unorganized just like they have us a paper with a price for a procedure and we paid and then they told us they gave us the wrong paper with the wrong estimate so we have to bbn pay $700 more. We also were not told that we needed to do an additional step which put the our cycle back another month which was really disappointing.
