He [Dr. Nicholas Shamma] is very honest and realistic. When we were told that my husband had no sperm, it was a shock to us and we cried in his office. He told us not to give up and even told my husband “I’m going to tell you like I’d tell my son, we will fix this someway” it was a very genuine moment with him.... He’s very forward, don’t get upset by the way he delivers results. He’s trying to get answers and doesn’t allow emotion to get in his way.
We dealt with a lot of nurses in the office [IVF Michigan]. Some were very kind and compassionate while others were down right rude and condescending. They’d give you a packet of information and then briefly explain it, if you had questions it was like they’re were annoyed. Very discouraging. Insult to injury. They didn’t care that we were grieving the loss of our future children.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Nicholas Shamma at IVF Michigan Fertility Centers?
It was very nice that the dr treated us well. He explained what we would need to do and he was very honest with what our outcome was looking like. However, his staff, nurses, are very rude if you call with a question. They treat you like you’re stupid and talk down to you. Very discouraging.

Be prepared for the bluntness of this clinic. They can be great and helpful but they don’t really care about your feelings. Not much emotional support. You will get the answers you are looking for, even if they aren’t what you’re hoping for.
