Doctor Bergh met with us for our consultation and immediately knew who we were and all the details we provided prior to our appointment. We are going through IVF for PGT/genetics and he spoke to us about how his personal experiences with the gene we have. He didn't rush our appointment or any of our questions. He was very direct with information but very compassionate with how difficult IVF can be.
RMA is a well organized system....surprised with how smoothly the entire appointment flowed and how timely everything/everyone was. The offices are always so clean, and the staff members are always so kind and willing to help. With IVF comes a lot of blood work, which always was a weak point for me and the staff was always wonderful and understanding that I didn't tolerate needles well. Appointments were always easy to arrange.
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Bergh explained every aspect of IVF and fertility along with our genetic competent so well. When doing research it was easy to get confused and Dr. Bergh really explained things in a simplistic way that also lightened the mood in such a serious, stressful, and overwhelming matter. Our IVF journey began and then had become an unexpected rollercoaster and Dr. Bergh was very compassionate and understanding and altered coarse of treatment every time we needed. He provided tons of information and support for us. I truly felt Dr. Bergh had our best interests in mind and made our IVF plan specifically for us.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Go in with an open mind. It's easy to go into our IVF consultation with a certain mindset or overwhelmed by the next steps and finances but the appointment is so informative and truly provides you with such insight.

Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Christina)
Christina was 10 out of 10. We relied on her a lot and she never made us feel we were a bother. Not only is she extremely knowledgable and informative but she was always there when we needed her and she always offered support when we felt overwhelmed or emotional. She definitely went above and beyond what her professional duties are.

I actually have not met Dr. Bergh, I have only met with his Nurse Practitioner, who has always treated me and my partner with much care...Lauren Nervi is the nurse practitioner taking care of me. I like her, she takes the time to answer all questions me and my partner have ever had...don't be afraid to ask questions, she talks very fast and is very smart, which could possibly feel intimidating but she is very patient.
The RMA team is outstanding, they are professional, gentle, caring, I cannot say enough good things...RMA of NJ does not do multiple embryo transfer, I am ok with that since it can result in twins...The clinic is a well oiled machine/factory. I chose RMA knowing that one does not get a cozy, warm, slow treatment. RMA is to the point, in and out, who's next? When you go for the morning monitoring the doctors go in and out of the exam rooms, and on to the next, and on to the next so quickly; they are attentive and caring but one sees how impersonal the care is.

Due to my insurance which follows the NJ State Mandate, I had to do 6 IUI's before my insurance would even consider covering any IVF retrieval. So we did the IUI's, which none worked. We were told by the NP that this was a high possibility due to my age (39) and my egg reserve. Her rationale was let's get the IUI's out of the way so we can get to the IVF, which has a higher chance for the results of a child.

When you go for the morning monitoring the doctors go in and out of the exam rooms, and on to the next, and on to the next so quickly; they are attentive and caring but one sees how impersonal the care is. Personally, I chose this clinic for this reason, I want results, I don't want to waste my time being hand held and being given false hopes, I want results asap. My partner in the other hand would rather have a more intimate setting, I think a smaller practice would give that feeling, however, it is much harder to get appointments in smaller practices.

Well oiled machine with the women being the herd.

The sperm was not covered by my insurance. The IUI's were partially covered. The IVF retrievals are partially covered, all medicine is covered. We're heading towards the 20K spenditure with all things included right now.

Unfortunately, on the first appointment, either the clinic or the lab lost my partner's blood work and somehow switched my blood type. What ended up happening is that they put her bloodwork under mine, so my bloodtype was hers....long story short we both had to go and get our bloodwork re-done.

How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I cannot recommend Dr. Bergh enough. Prior to working with Dr. Bergh, I was under the care of a local RE. With the local RE, two retrievals yielded zero embryos for transfer. That clinic told me "that's just the way it is" and wanted to continue treatment without making any adjustments. I then found Dr. Bergh. To work with him, I had to travel to NJ from FL. We decided to do duo-stim in hopes to bank embryos. I won't share numbers here because they can be triggering, but I will share that I was able to bank PGT-A tested embryos from the two retrievals with Dr. Bergh. Every step of the way, I was under heavy monitoring and I was involved in decisions made. I was able to ask questions and was treated like a knowledgeable human. Dr. Bergh did my FET, and I had success. My LO is almost two now, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't thank Dr. Bergh for that. I am currently under Dr. Bergh's care for a second FET. Dr. Bergh is the best!!!
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Dr. Bergh will answer them in a calm, non-judgmental manner

Dr. Bergh treats you for YOU. He does not try to sync your cycle with his other patients. He makes a plan based on YOUR needs and makes adjustments throughout the cycle as needed. He is also very personable. At one point during a retrieval cycle, I was worried about something and he got on the phone with me for about 30 minutes until we talked things through and I felt better. When I got pregnant under his care, I was terrified I'd lose the pregnancy. He, again, got on the phone to calm me down and make me feel more secure in my pregnancy.

Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
He has a strong preference for a single embryo transfer, and he requires PGT-A testing.
Typically, I prefer the warmest and fuzziest bedside manner. Dr. Bergh is not quite that. He is also not cold or uncaring. He is very caring. But, he is also direct, clear and honest...adjusted my treatment plan along the way, and was always looking to try something different to work through obstacles

How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
As my daughter is approaching her second birthday, I was overcome with gratitude as I recounted my difficult journey to get here. We experienced secondary infertility struggles, two losses back to back, and so much heartache. I credit having two children to Dr. Bergh. Typically, I prefer the warmest and fuzziest bedside manner. Dr. Bergh is not quite that. He is also not cold or uncaring. He is very caring. But, he is also direct, clear and honest. He is also so serious about his work, and I never questioned my decision to be under his care. He had a way of always giving me that hope I so very needed, and had this sarcastic but sincere personality, an endearing quality that I grew to really appreciate. I know he has daughters of his own, and somehow that always helped me. He adjusted my treatment plan along the way, and was always looking to try something different to work through obstacles. He always had a plan. He is truly the best of the best there is, and at the end of the day, what I wanted and needed most was the doctor he is. He never gave up on us during our 1.5 years working together. He never let me lose hope. He was willing to collaborate and get on the phone with me directly when I needed it. I felt truly cared about, by him and his team, and I can’t express enough how much he changed our lives.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
He is a straight shooter, he is direct. He’s not going to hold your hand, but he might if you ask him to :) What he will do, is be the best doctor for you, pivot, explain the reason and research behind his decisions, and work with you as if you really matter. He is deeply intelligent and in his wheel house.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Working with Dr. Bergh and with RMA, I expected to feel like a number. I honestly felt like the exact opposite. The amount of care and consideration that I was given during a very difficult time is something I will never forget.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Jamie Segarra)
Jamie was my nurse coordinator for my entire year+ experience with Dr. Bergh/RMA. I still think about her all this time after being there. I used to feel like I was her only patient - that is the level of communication, constant involvement and awareness she had about my case, my life. She was on top of everything, incredibly organized and communicative, and sharp as a tack. I felt like I was in good, safe and responsible hands always.

RMA was truly an exceptional place to work with. During a time of so much vulnerability, uncertainty and emotional turmoil, I was continuously impressed at how much I did not feel like a number. Every step of the way, the entire team there was on top of every single thing. I was amazed, always, at how tight a ship they run.
Dr. Bergh did not rush through my initial appointment and also agreed to perform my egg retrieval even though he was not the doctor on schedule for the day. He called to check on me after the retrieval and spent a lot of time on the phone explaining the results, etc. ... Dr. Bergh is very direct in his delivery, but also very kind and helpful. He genuinely wants to help you have a family.
RMA has a large network of offices in NJ so you can go to morning monitoring at any location. The Englewood office seems to be very slow at times for the bloodwork and ultrasound in the morning. In fairness, they do thoroughly disinfect after each patient and it adds to the wait time. I usually receive a call before noon with my results and instructions. Overall, RMA is very well organized and nothing is left to doubt.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Bergh is very direct in his delivery, but also very kind and helpful. He genuinely wants to help you have a family. In my initial consultation with him, he spent over an hour speaking to me, answering my questions, showing me statistics, etc. I never once felt rushed or like he was tired of my questions. He also made sure to call me the day of my egg retrieval (after the procedure) and was so supportive and empathetic to my situation. I did not achieve the desired result, but he was able to explain why and he helped boost me up and made me feel like he's a member of my team.
Describe the protocols Paul Bergh used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
We are currently doing a back to back cycle (two stims phases right after each other). We had a luteal phase start for my first cycle with an egg retrieval. Now I will have a week off and will likely jump right back in to a stim cycle. I have low ovarian reserve and my egg quality is also poor, so the thought is this protocol will help jumpstart the follicle development and hopefully the better quality eggs will mature.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Nicole S)
Nicole is a dream come true! I have been to other REs and the nursing staff is usually so busy and overwhelmed they don't have much time to discuss treatment etc. Nicole responds to all emails within a day and usually calls as well in case any questions arise from her explanations. She is extremely compassionate, empathetic and helpful. It is clear she is in constant contact with Dr. Bergh and discussed all concerns directly with the doctor.

The best thing is that the clinic has remained open during the covid-19 pandemic. RMA has a large network of offices in NJ so you can go to morning monitoring at any location. I usually receive a call before noon with my results and instructions. Overall, RMA is very well organized and nothing is left to doubt.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Morning monitoring in Basking Ridge was efficient. Given the pandemic, weekend hours have been extended until 11 am. Those with a last name at the beginning of the alphabet were seen before 9 am and those at the end of the alphabet were seen between 9 am and 11 am. During the week I went to Englewood for monitoring hours. The team was less efficient and while they try to take people on a first come basis, it doesn't always work out that way. It can be frustrating to wait 40 minutes when there are only 5 patients in the office. Again, this may be due to the extra measures being taken for covid-19.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Still undergoing treatment so final costs have not been determined. I do have coverage for treatment under my husband's insurance policy, but had to pay a $4000 co-pay prior to starting the cycle.

Dr. Bergh has great bedside manner. He remembered me from my initial visits five years prior and offered great support as I decided between two paths to motherhood.... Dr. Bergh gave me hope for fertility preservation after cancer, even while being honest about my limited chances. He clearly explained each part of the process and what it meant for my future. He brought compassion and humor when my news wasn’t what I was hoping for and helped me navigate my next steps.
This [RMA of New Jersey] is a big clinic but I still felt like I was followed by my primary team and only saw different doctors than my primary doctor while at monitoring appointments. It was fairly easy to get an appointment and each step was coordinated well.... The morning monitoring was super convenient. I had to do two separate egg retrieval’s as my first med protocol did not stimulate me well enough. This was a challenge due to my low AMH and ovary recovering from cancer surgery. The second protocol produce three times more eggs and was much more successful.

My fertility preservation was largely covered by a grant for cancer patients.
Dr Bergh took the time to talk to me individually and explain the treatment process and why he was opting to do that process over others....Dr Bergh was very candid with me and told me "how it was". He didn't sidestep anything because it was uncomfortable, he just said it in a blunt yet respectful manner. After I had a bad reaction to the medicine the first round, he worked with me to figure out a plan and continues to do so afterwards.
The clinic [RMA of NJ] is definitely a baby making machine, so it is very regimented. I enjoy the process however it is not for everyone. I think there could be a bit more explanations during procedures and some more time spent with patients. It seems as if the phlebotomists are all very different and not all care for the patient and it is shown by how they draw the blood.... Jackie has been a god-send during this process. She has a very upbeat personality and is always willing to talk or answer any questions I may have.

I am on track to do 4 medicated IUI cycles and if they do not take, move forward with IVF. First IUI I was given 50mg Gonal-F and then was increased to 150mg with an Ovradrell trigger shot. After starting the Gonal-F, my migraines that I have had since a teenager were uncontrollable. Reaching out to Dr Bergh regarding this, he switched my medicine to Clomid, 50mg for the second cycle. If the 4 IUI's do not take, I will meet with him beforehand to discuss the treatment options for IVF due to the necessary medication.

Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
I saw him [Dr. Bergh] only at the beginning of each cycle, as well as when one embryo miscarried. He was compassionate throughout. It was always clear that he was the guiding force behind all the decisions. All decisions were made by him, even if he didn't see me and was using other doctor's notes to make those informed decisions. My actual meeting with him was lengthy and comprehensive, and I felt listened to.... We went through IVF with ICSI.
RMA NJ has many satellite locations, which makes it easier to get to. The main location in Basking Ridge is beautiful and the rooms are very private, which is nice. They offer complementary protocols, like acupuncture, during the transfer, which makes it easier. The waiting times can be long if it's a busy morning, though if you get there really early, you can avoid that. They have great success rates and will work with you

Dr. Bergh took the time to discuss all options and answer my questions patiently. I was assigned a specific nurse who was always available for me specifically. I felt very much like my team knew me and my situation.
Describe the protocols Paul Bergh used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
We went through IVF with ICSI. The retrieval was successful but Dr. Bergh was concerned that I would hyperstimulate, so he took the time to explain why he wanted to freeze all the embryos and do a frozen transfer in 6 weeks. Though it was disappointing to me, he really helped me understand why. And then the transfer of two embryos was successful, though one miscarried at 5 weeks, and Dr. Bergh was there to help me. The first frozen cycle used Lupron to set up the cycle. The second cycle went with my natural period. Both transfers resulted in a live birth. I have a son and a daughter now and we are very thankful.

I sometimes waited a long time to be seen. If I got there early, I got seen earlier. They did try to hurry things along by getting blood done and then waiting for ultrasound after, but if it was a busy morning, I waited for over an hour.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
At the beginning of my first IVF cycle, I signed up a special program through ARK, where I paid roughly $21,000 for 2 fresh and 2 frozen cycles until I conceived. It was so relieving to know that if one didn't work, I wouldn't have to shell out tons more to try again. In the end, we used one fresh and one frozen cycle for my son. I think we spent another $4500 for PGD, which was fortuitous because of my 15 embryos, 5 were abnormal and I am so relieved I didn't have to live through a miscarriage from transferring an abnormal embryo.
Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
Dr. Bergh encouraged one embryo though he allowed me two in my first transfer. He said he would pick the best embryo from those available to make it most likely to succeed.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
In my third attempt to start a cycle, I went on birth control pills to bring on my period. My period came and I went for monitoring but my numbers weren't right. I went a few more times and no one explained why the numbers kept being wrong. Finally, after my fifth visit, another doctor told me that I was clearly in the wrong part of the cycle and there was no point to come back until I had another period. I wish that the other doctors or the nurse had told me that earlier on. I had to travel from my summer home and it was an expensive waste of time. Dr. Bergh had wanted me to follow even after that, but I felt burnt out by that time. Still, this was a minor mishap and I am very grateful to them for the good they did.
He [Dr. Paul Bergh] did recommend I lose weight but was very professional about it. I also told him that I had problems with pelvic floor disorder and these tests were tough for me. He was very professional about that as well. Never may me feel diminished in any way as a patient because of it. Allowed me to get the hysteroscopy done at the hospital under anesthesia...he was candid but professional. He was very thorough but also very invested in getting me pregnant. He discovered that I had Celiac Disease which was a piece of the puzzle no other doctor had found out about me. I enjoyed working with him.
The billing department [at RMA of New Jersey] was thorough in going through a screen process where they evaluated what your health insurance covered. However they have an outrageous admin fee for donor embryo...The nurse assigned to me was very organized and you can do your lab work right on site. The monitoring is done early in the morning one day a week. I will say if you need medical records from them or sent to them leave a long time to do so. Dealing with the medical records department can take a long time. This is a large facility and it can feel as though they are a well oiled machine. I would warn people who are overweight to address that issue before attending this facility. A friend of mine's wife attended this facility with PCOS and they called her obese. PCOS however contributes to obesity from what I understand. The one area I do no care for in this place is the billing department. Before you can go in for your appointment you have to sit down with the billing department. Is this is your first round with infertillity and your husband is anything like my husband, sitting down to talk about money before your appointment seems a little obscene. Shouldn't we be talking about cost after you recommend a course of treatment? Also we were lucky to be covered by the NJ mandated IVF coverage at the time. However, they told me to be a part of the embryo donor program (using anonymous embryos) you have to pay $5,000 that is not covered by the insurance. At other facilities out of state this is the cost of a frozen embryo transfer with a donor embryo. Why so much? Isn't charging for embryos illegal in New Jersey? Someone should look into this. This bill was not itemized either. They didn't tell me what the actual reason for asking us for $5,000 were. The embryos were already made and stored. All they were doing was matching us with available donor embryo. We left for this reason because I was thoroughly annoyed by that amount and told it was because in New Jersey they charge crazy administration fees for donor embryo programs.
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I liked Dr. Bergh he was candid but professional. He was very thorough but also very invested in getting me pregnant. He discovered that I had Celiac Disease which was a piece of the puzzle no other doctor had found out about me. I enjoyed working with him.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
He does tell you what his honest opinion is about your diagnosis and I value that. However I could see patients having a hard time with him if they wanted to go on a wing and a prayer and try with their own eggs with a very likely unsuccesful outcome.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Even though this is a big busy practice you do get to see Dr. Bergh and he was very candid and frank at the consultation. He told me right away that my best luck to get pregnant would be a egg donor or embryo donor. He did recommend I lose weight but was very professional about it. I also told him that I had problems with pelvic floor disorder and these tests were tough for me. He was very professional about that as well. Never may me feel diminished in any way as a patient because of it. Allowed me to get the hysteroscopy done at the hospital under anesthesia.
Describe the protocols Paul Bergh used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
I didn't get very far into the protocol and my protocol was different because we were using donor embryo.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
I can not remeber the name of the my primary nurse but she was great ! The patient portal made it easy to upload records and if she needed something she got back to right away.
Describe your experience with RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
I liked Dr. Paul Bergh. The nurse assigned to me was very organized and you can do your lab work right on site. Please see my previous commens about the billing department for more detail. The billing department was thorough in going through a screen process where they evaluated what your health insurance covered. However they have an outrageous admin fee for donor embryo.

Dr. Bergh is very knowledgeable and willing to meet with me whenever needed. He always evaluates my progress and makes my treatment decisions. Answer my questions and meet with me to discuss options...I had my son on my 2nd IUI using chlomid. I tried 14 more IUIs, first with chlomid, then with injectibles for Baby #2. Now I am in my 2nd IVF cycle with injectibles.
At times it is busy but it is very well run and moves very quickly. The hours are great because you can go in early before your day normally starts so it doesn't interfere with anything...Great clinic with latest technology. It is big with a high volume but I would rather deal with crowds somewhere where I am confident I am getting treated by the best doctors and nurses than in a smaller place with substandard care. RMA is the best!...Nurse Michelle was trained by Nurse Danielle and it shows. Michelle is a wonderful nurse that I trust completely. She is very knowledgeable and always answers my questions. I am so very lucky to have her.

My treatments were covered by insurance. For the IUIs I paid a co-pay for each office visit and for the treatments. For IVF, I paid a per cycle one-time co-pay and took out a personal loan for costs not covered by insurance.
Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
My doctor prefers single embryo transfer but would discuss multiple if I am lucky enough to have multiple embryos to transfer. At this point, I will be happy with 1.
Dr. Bergh oversees the nurse practitioner we work with primarily, but he is involved in every step of the way. Both he and Lauren are creative in their approaches and share the thought process behind each decision they make...Dr. Bergh and his nurse practitioner Lauren have always helped to set realistic expectations. They understand frustrations that come with the process and have taken time to meet with me to discuss my concerns and actually listen. They explain the reasons behind their thought processes and also work hard to keep costs down when deciding treatment plans. They make my feeling feel valid and not overlooked.
RMANJ has it all, they are the best of the best and I really appreciate the flexibility with times and so many doctors available for monitoring and all. I love that they only do 1 at a time. The risk of multiples is already there why make it more and put someone at a higher risk?
Dr. Bergh walked me through his plan. He gave me all details needed, explained things clearly, and was very thorough. He even gave me research articles in case I wanted to read up on anything on my own. No questions were left unanswered. He also has a very calm demeanor which helps put you at ease...Dr. Bergh went above and beyond to help me get pregnant. I was 100% confident in everything he told me through out the entire process and I always felt that I was well cared for. I would def recommend Dr. Bergh! He’s the best of the best!
The [RMA of New Jersey] clinic was very clean and efficient. They have a good system so the morning monitoring moves pretty quickly. You’re in and out fast. The transfers are not done in a n operating room , so it was very relaxing. They even had calm relaxing music playing in the background...[nurse] Jamie was great! Her calls were always timely. Her instructions were super clear. I I was never confused with any of the medications, appointments, etc. Everything went smoothly! Glad to have had her as my nurse.
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
After two failed transfers with PGT normal embryos at a different clinic, I traveled far and wide to see Dr. Bergh. He was highly recommended for people in my age group (40+). He did a very thorough full work up and gave me a plan which included supplements to take (trustworthy brands) , diet to follow, etc. My prior clinic only recommended a basic prenatal (they did the bare minimum). Dr. Bergh went above and beyond to help me get pregnant. I was 100% confident in everything he told me through out the entire process and I always felt that I was well cared for. I would def recommend Dr. Bergh! He’s the best of the best!

[Dr. Bergh's protocol included] Gluten/dairy free diet; IVF protocol targeted for high ovarian reserve with risk of overstimming; probiotics, prebiotics, folate...I was not a typical fertility patient: I had lots of eggs (but not great quality), a thick lining, and I got pregnant very easily (but I had early miscarriages). Dr. Bergh treated me with personalized, outside the box care...I did a gluten/dairy free diet for several months. He had anecdotal experience with other patients where the diet helped with implantation. I ended up getting way more PGS normal embryos than I had with my prior clinic, and my first transfer worked.
I loved RMA [of New Jersey]. I got personalized care and it’s a very well run clinic. I’ve heard people complain that they were treated like a number but I didn’t feel that way at all. I don’t have any weaknesses to report...Gluten/dairy free diet; IVF protocol targeted for high ovarian reserve with risk of overstimming; probiotics, prebiotics, folate...Nicole is AMAZING. Proactive, organized, totally on top of everything. I never ever had to chase her down, which I had to do with nurses at another clinic. Couldn’t be happier with her
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
Dr. Bergh is a godsend. After multiple early miscarriages with other fertility specialists (including a miscarriage of a PGS normal embryo), I had lost all hope. Per Dr. Bergh’s recommendation, I did a gluten/dairy free diet for several months. He had anecdotal experience with other patients where the diet helped with implantation. I ended up getting way more PGS normal embryos than I had with my prior clinic, and my first transfer worked.

Single embryo transfer since we had PGS normal embryos
I started seeing Dr. Bergh when my first doctor left the clinic and we were trying for #2. I was nervous because I loved my first doctor so much but right away felt comfortable and calm with Dr. Bergh. He delivered all information I needed in a calm manner and made me feel at ease about treatments when things failed. When we had several failures he was determined to find out a reason or solution before using more embryos and when he found nothing "wrong" with me, he added some additional methods and timings and it worked.
Strengths [at RMA of New Jersey] - large, always open, always someone available, amazing lab on site, no hidden information, appointments always available, monitoring hours are amazing, all doctors are amazing Weaknesses - sometimes a wait for bloodwork and ultrasounds...My nurse, Jamie, was amazing. She called me as soon as she had information everyday and I never felt I was missing any information or upcoming plans. She even called me at night from her home when the doctor would email her with a plan change or results.

So far, never too many people in the [RMA of NJ] waiting areas, morning monitoring was always quick and efficient and the staff very friendly and on top of things. The email correspondence is weird because they have you get set up with the portal but you can't do much in it, like email attachments, so you're better off just emailing directly, which is secure anyway. Dr. Bergh was thorough in his explanation, patient when answering questions, spoke with us for a good amount of time over the phone before we went in for a consultation and we felt like he was experienced and knowledgeable. Describe the specific things that went wrong at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
At morning monitoring, the dr who performed the ultrasound said everything was perfect and was very enthusiastic about things going well. but when I got the call from the nurse later in the day, I was told my lining was a little thin, so it was little bit of an emotional rollercoaster and didn't feel great.
He’s [Dr. Paul Bergh] not warm and fuzzy, but definitely not cold either. He will tell it like it is, so if you prefer to have things sugar-coated, he may not be the best match for you...Dr. Bergh called me on a weekend morning when we were running into some issues with my cycle so that he could communicate directly with me...I was surprised after our first consultation that he recommended a gluten and dairy free diet, and a ton of supplements. However, it wasn’t just for the sake of things, he explained the rationale well. He was willing to adjust plans and pursue additional testing as needed.
While RMA is a massive clinic, and morning monitoring can make you feel as though you are a part of an assembly line—my experience with my team was wonderful. Everyone was responsive and caring. My nurse went out of her way to make sure a familiar voice would call with any results, and not someone who happened to be covering for that day...Morning monitoring was run like a well-oiled machine most days, however, I was always there early and did not have wait times others have experienced. Front desk staff is friendly, I was going in so often at one point that one of the administrative staff members knew my name (COVID mask and all!). I had some trouble reaching a covering nurse when mine was away, but ultimately we connected. Answering service was super helpful for after hours.
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I was surprised after our first consultation that he recommended a gluten and dairy free diet, and a ton of supplements. However, it wasn’t just for the sake of things, he explained the rationale well. He was willing to adjust plans and pursue additional testing as needed.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
He’s not warm and fuzzy, but definitely not cold either. He will tell it like it is, so if you prefer to have things sugar-coated, he may not be the best match for you.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
While RMA is a massive clinic, and morning monitoring can make you feel as though you are a part of an assembly line—my experience with my team was wonderful. Everyone was responsive and caring. My nurse went out of her way to make sure a familiar voice would call with any results, and not someone who happened to be covering for that day. I honestly can probably write paragraphs on how my nurse and the PA, Lauren, went above and beyond and seemed to genuinely care. Dr. Bergh called me on a weekend morning when we were running into some issues with my cycle so that he could communicate directly with me. When I had my second retrieval, even though he did not perform the procedure himself, he stopped by before I went in just to say hello and wish me luck.
Describe the protocols Paul Bergh used in your cycles at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and their degree of success.
We attempted IUI (two natural cycles, one converted to timed intercourse, followed by 3 medicated cycles which were required by my insurance before IVF would be covered). Stim cycles were random start. I was on a combination of follistim, menopur, and ganirelix with a Lupron trigger. I had some issues with my
uterine lining being on the thinner side, so Dr. Bergh suggested some supplements to assist. My first transfer resulted in miscarriage just prior to 7weeks. My second transfer did not take. After my second retrieval, I was taking micro dose Lupron daily as I had cysts. I also did an endometrial scratch/disruption to hopefully help aid in implantation. My third transfer (with Dr. Hong) was successful and I am currently in my third trimester.
Describe your experience with your nurse at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (Assigned nurse: Jamie Segarra)
Jamie was a godsend. She was an excellent communicator, super organized, and compassionate. She never rushed me off of the phone (even when I was sobbing, or asking a million questions). She advocated for me with my team and made sure that I was seen by either Dr. Bergh or Lauren for monitoring during critical times which helped to put me at ease.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
With good insurance coverage, we still paid ~$10k out of pocket for everything fertility related (e.g., medications, acupuncture, supplements, PGTA testing, etc)
Dr Bergh will always treat you like a human - he gives you the real info without fluff but says it in a way that's sensitive to women who are going through this...If you want someone more touchy feely who is around all the time he might not be the best fit. If you want the best doctor and the rest doesn't matter he is not just good but the best choice...very busy so you may not see him as often as you may like.
RMA gets results, they're organized and I believe their protocols are safe. They have a bunch of offices around the state so it's convenient. The doctors you can tell are the best in their fields...MA only does single embryo transfers - if you are absolutely sure you want to transfer more than one they are not the clinic for you..definitely not the cheapest clinic...I will say not all doctors in the practice are the same so when you are going almost daily for ultrasounds you'll see some you like and some you don't!
How was your experience with Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I would recommend Dr Bergh to anyone 100% I just have to note that he is a founder at RMA and very busy so you may not see him as often as you may like. You'll often deal with Lauren Nervi and your nurse so you should decide if you are OK with him not being around for all your scans and procedures beforehand.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Bergh at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey?
I personally just wanted the best doctor - Dr Bergh is that. I didn't care about bedside manner, who I saw for my regular scans or any of that. I cared only about getting a good result. If you want someone more touchy feely who is around all the time he might not be the best fit. If you want the best doctor and the rest doesn't matter he is not just good but the best choice.

I will say not all doctors in the practice are the same so when you are going almost daily for ultrasounds you'll see some you like and some you don't! You're also extremely hormonal so it's good to recognize that you're probably ultra- sensitive

After diagnosing a hydrosalpinx from an ultrasound (saving me from a painful HSG) my tubes were removed. I then had to do IVF. I did one retrieval, 13 eggs, 6 blast, 2 normal using the antagonist method (gonal F, low dose HCG, ganirelix, trigger).

Jamie doesn't answer questions like a human - when you ask a question you will get a succinct copied and pasted answer that looks like it came from a nurses handbook. She will give you the info you need but she is definitely not as compassionate as some of the other nurses.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
I mean there's no way for morning monitoring to be pleasant. I think RMA does the best job possible. You can go to any office during the monitoring window. You rarely have to wait much and you always get results that day

We were lucky to have some insurance coverage but it's definitely not the cheapest clinic!
Describe Paul Bergh's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at RMA of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.
RMA only does single embryo transfers - if you are absolutely sure you want to transfer more than one they are not the clinic for you
