[Dr. Paul Magarelli is] Very direct and rushed. I appreciate directness but generally did not know what was going on with case just came in for procedures, nurses tended to manage care. Was able provide good care for procedures and trusted his judgement but was not very involved...Rarely remembers anything from my case and I have to re-educate on where we are at with treatment.
[CNY Fertility Colorado] Strengths- willing to treat anyone, financially accessible treatment Weaknesses- very busy and understaffed and relies on nurses for most care management. Not able to reply to messages from a specific person and have to advocate for yourself to stay on top of treatment...While not assigned to a single person the nursing team were quick to respond, problem solve, adjust protocols and treat with compassion.

Just instances of having an order uploaded for beta after transfer but beta wasn't marked on orders just other labs. At times one nurse has adjusted a medication and not updated my flow sheet or the med directions.
I like Dr Magarelli a lot. He seems very smart and knowledgeable and science driven. I am confident in his medical skills and can tell he continually learns and does research for the most current fertility studies...If you are super sensitive this may not be the doctor for you...respectful but mostly informative which is what I desired...
They [CNY Fertility Center] do a lot of innovative treatments and have a great knowledge of up and coming fertility info...great for anyone who may not be able to afford a higher cost clinic. After being treated there for over a year now I dont think I would change clinics even if cost was not a concern. They are great for travel patients from out of state. I would highly recommend to anyone seeking fertility care.

He strongly prefers to transfer only one embryo except in certain situations, but he always states the risks of transferring more than one and advises against it.
What specific things went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Provided conflicting information
Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I was given conflicting information regarding a medication from a nurse and another nurse gave different information.
Dr Paul magarelli is a very thoroughly explaining doctor but you don't see him at all for the first portion of your IVF treatment the only time I actually seen the doctor was online on during an Instagram video that was live and prior to my egg retrieval and that was all. But from what I've seen from him he was very thorough and his explanation about what was going to happen and he answered questions consistently and he seems very kind and trustworthy.
[CNY Fertility Colorado] Strengths are the availability of information and the ability of the nurses to correspond through patient portal the clean environment the great doctor and the medication discounts were the most amazing part about CNY fertility. The weakness would be the lack of Dr Paul magerelli actually being more involved in the person's treatment. The weakness would be the lack of monitoring the medication so that patients do not end up with ohss as I did

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Be more involved in the global travel teams treatment. And adjusting medication for those who suffer from ohss.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
There's so many people struggling with infertility and I live in Utah and he was stationed in Colorado and the travel team was pretty consistent with their information I suppose as long as you reached out and ask yourself and I think it has such higher price. I also felt that my medication wasn't as monitored as it should of been.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
I was started on cycle day 3 to go and do blood work and ultrasound I had a total of about 12 follicles combines on both ovaries and went back the following 4th or fifth day but I had started taking gonal f and HCG low dose pregnyl along with prenatal vitamins and supplements prednisone and azithromycin and low dose naltrexone I eventually introduced sexual tide into my protocol and continued that until the day of my trigger then after evil I had ohss which I was then told to drink a lot of protein and eat a lot of cabergoline pills.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CNY Fertility Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Global travel team)
They were good on answering my questions pretty quickly but they would leave out a lot of details and it was very hard as a travel patient to be able to understand everything thoroughly.

The weakness would be the lack of Dr Paul magerelli actually being more involved in the person's treatment. The weakness would be the lack of monitoring the medication so that patients do not end up with ohss as I did my estrogen level was adding 9700 I went through the worst after egg retrieval. Also another weakness is that you cannot bring children with you which it was not advertised in their website prior to me traveling all that distance by vehicle it was a 10-hour drive and then when I got there my stepson was not even allowed in the business.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I was a global travel patient and so I utilized hospitals such as the radiology department and the lab at LabCorp down here in Utah versus Colorado
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
My total cost was $5,000 for the IVF and the monitoring and then my medication cost was $3,000 so that was a total of $8,000 plus I still have to do an fet which I do not have the money for because of travel and all that other stuff.
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Dr Paul magarelli is more for the ESET which I would like to transfer multiple embryos because I feel it gives a woman a higher chance which he is against.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Well you don't have an assigned nurse which would be a nice thing if they could provide something like that but each nurse gives you different information about your medication protocol what they want to do within the next few days especially around the time prior to egg retrieval and then I started going to the clinic every day and that was very expensive and I came down there early just because of this and ended up staying for a whole week which was more cost out of my own pocket I've just had conflicting information from these individuals about my medicational protocol and what we were going to do next due to the lack of assigned nurses. I am also very upset at the idea that you know you pay for all this money for an IVF cycle and it promises that a transfer and embryo glue and all of that stuff is going to be included in this package for a fresh transfer but if you're estrogen is way too high because you suffer from ohss then you're denied a fresh transfer then all the sudden you have to come up with more money because although that promises in that one package they don't allow it for the fet package which I believe is wrong because the promise of the advertisements still there why do I have to pay extra money if it's only $800 why don't you guys just cover that and itemize your guys's product but they don't that has been another very upsetting experience of mine.
Dr.Magarelli always treated me with respect and dignity, he made sure I was comfortable and understood everything that was happening. He is not known for having the warmest bedside manner but it depends on the day, personally, I prefer the information bluntly and matter of factly, which is how he most often presents it.
[CNY Fertility Colorado] Nursing staff also treated me professionally and not like a number. They didn’t assume I knew everything just because I worked there which was important to me...This clinic is full of compassionate people that truly care about the work they are doing. Some of them are like me, they are undergoing there own fertility struggles, and can empathize with the patients. Weaknesses, may be burn out, as some do care about what they are doing they can forget to take care of themselves.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
He was a scientist before he became a MD, he is very science minded. To some it may come off as cold when he is explaining or recommending, but he is just all about the facts and data.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Although I was an employee, he treated me professionally, just like a patient should be treated. Didn’t expect me to know everything even though I knew a lot. He took his time explaining things to me, this meant a lot.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
We have tried high dose IVF cycles with gonal F up to 400 and Menopur up to 300, but my best cycles were with lower doses and letrozole (let 10mg, gf 200, mp 75). Fsh/antagonist protocols are most often used.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Nursing staff also treated me professionally and not like a number. They didn’t assume I knew everything just because I worked there which was important to me. I can manage other peoples cycles but when it comes to my own I am prone to forget important things.

Weaknesses, may be burn out, as some do care about what they are doing they can forget to take care of themselves. CNY is very affordable, you’re not going to get one to one care like you would at a more expensive clinic, so it is important to also be knowledgeable about your plan provided to you by your provider
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I got one free IVF cycle as an employee, the rest are paid for by the employee. It is around $5k per cycle
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Single embryo transfer is almost always recommended per ASRM recommendations but he did agree to let me transfer two day3 embryos on my last transfer that worked
What specific things went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Lost or damaged samples
Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
My blood sample was misplaced and had to be redrawn
[Dr. Paul Magarelli was] very warm and kind but they didn't ACTUALLY care much about me as a person and constantly had to remind themselves of my name. No one followed up with me to talk next steps when my outcome failed...It was very difficult to understand what needed to happen with my cycle. I was a "Global Travel" patient and constantly had to advocate for myself...My retrieval did not result in any transferrable embryos
When I actually arrived at CNY's office in Colorado Springs, Dr. Magerelli and his staff were very warm and kind but they didn't ACTUALLY care much about me as a person and constantly had to remind themselves of my name. No one followed up with me to talk next steps when my outcome failed...The clinic looks like it was a regular office turned into a surgical center. It was clean but their surgery room was very much just like a regular office with a surgical table. Everyone introduced themselves to me before the surgery got started but I couldn't tell you who they were afterward. I never spoke to any of them again except the embryologist.
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
This was my first experience with IVF it was cumbersome, I was often left to my own devices. I had a single phone consult with a doctor I don't even know the name of. I was very difficult to hear him, I didn't understand what he said and I ended up making a lot of mistakes as a result.

During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
It was very difficult to understand what needed to happen with my cycle. I was a "Global Travel" patient and constantly had to advocate for myself. At retrieval everyone was nice but they couldn't remember my name without looking on my chart or at the board with my name on it. It was very much a churn 'n burn operation. I felt very alone before and after my procedure.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
I was put on an immune protocol by the doctor on the phone consult.

Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I did local monitoring at a local fertility center other than CNY because I was a travel patient for CNY
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I paid CNY directly... I think it was something like $9,000

You can tell that Dr. Magarelli is very passionate about helping find success! My wife and I are very logic based, and wanting the facts. He was friendly, but had to be quick with his talks because of how busy he was! He gave us the facts and information straight forward, which was just perfect for us! Always a happy guy!
Dr. Magarelli’s office [CNY Fertility Colorado - Colorado Springs] was very busy because they try to make having a family affordable. So part of the time it was hard with scheduling, but the nurses there were so friendly and great! They remembered who you were and were genuine in their care...The nursing staff were great. All super knowledgeable and friendly.

Understand going in that after you meet with Magarelli you probably won’t see him again until your procedures, and be ready to ask questions again later after you’ve had time to process all the information! But his heart is definitely in the right place!

We did a mock transfer to figure out my transfer window with progesterone after 2 transfers didn’t take to make sure they could be as accurate as possible and increase the chance of success. For the 3rd transfer we added a a lipids IV.
For the second egg retrieval some of the medications were adjusted so that OHSS wouldn’t happen again.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The nursing staff were great. All super knowledgeable and friendly. They gladly answered questions that we thought were silly. They had made videos for how to do each shot and went through the process of those shots which was super helpful for us.
Describe your experience with CNY Fertility Colorado.
Just like any clinic that is busy, there were struggles to talk to someone on the phone. They did respond to the messages in their portal fairly quickly but sometimes it was inconvenient/stressful for someone going through it the first time.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The cost were broken down to the different procedures since we did reciprocal IVF. For an egg retrieval, and then a frozen embryo transfer was around $9000. On top of that was the medication that needed to be order, but they always found the cheapest location at the time for us to order them. Medications were $6000-8000 all in
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
His motto was “One healthy baby”. Because we opted to do the genetic testing of the embryos ahead of time there was no problem with us transferring one. Dr. Magarelli does let you transfer multiple if you want, and he makes you aware of the risks.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The only thing was there was some miscommunication on my third transfer for what medication I needed to bring with me to an apt. They had some in stock in the office so we were still able to do what it was, but I didn’t know I needed to order it and bring it with me.
[Dr. Paul Magarelli] easy to communicate and everything was very clear and answered all my questions. If I had any further questions I’d was no problem to email or call, everything was a clear defined system making you feel at ease about the whole process. Never having done anything like this before I really didn’t know what to expect or what was truly required for the procedure. I was given the best information to make the most informed decision
Cny was clear, and considering , they are trying to make these treatments available to more people which I respect. The consult was very straight forward and all my questions answered so I was able to make clear decisions about steps forward. It took away the fear of the procedure itself knowing I was getting the best information possible. They understood my concerns and addressed them accordingly

How competent was CNY Fertility Colorado at LGBTQ+ care?

Describe your experience using 3rd party reproduction (donor eggs, donor sperm, or gestational carrier) at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Dr. Mag comes across as a very smart and compassionate man on his IG Lives. I will say that I’ve had more questions answered by him when he is on social media than when I was in the clinic...He was the one who established the plan at the consult, however, I felt frequently that he was not overseeing my treatment plan during the retrieval process as there was no adjustment in my meds as my estrogen was rising significantly and my eggs were starting to mature at different rates.
I would say the best thing about this [CNY Fertility Center] clinic is that it is the lowest price if you are paying out of pocket. Be aware that even though they advertise as being the lowest price for IVF out there, it will come at a cost as you will likely have to go through multiple cycles to have success here. The treatment protocols are not individualized and they are not modified through your cycle..
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Dr. Mag comes across as a very smart and compassionate man on his IG Lives. I will say that I’ve had more questions answered by him when he is on social media than when I was in the clinic. I do believe that he is very passionate about what he does and the science behind it, but sometimes it impedes the ability to connect to the human side of the process.
The things that I feel could have been better include his communication on my specific treatment plan/protocol. He was the one who established the plan at the consult, however, I felt frequently that he was not overseeing my treatment plan during the retrieval process as there was no adjustment in my meds as my estrogen was rising significantly and my eggs were starting to mature at different rates.
The other aspect of communication is that I was never told the grade of our embryo. We decided to do PGT-A testing, and we were only told the results of that test but never told the actual overall quality of our embryo. We ended up transferring that embryo which failed, and only later on by me requesting my medical record did we find out that the embryo was graded as “poor”, but that was never communicated to us. I feel whole heartedly that the patient needs to know every aspect of what their results are, not to say that something is “normal” when that is only half of the picture. I was a wreck for several weeks after that transfer, but had I known that the odds weren’t great, it may have helped me cope a bit better.
Honestly, most of the contact with Dr. Mag was limited (unless you were on social media), nursing staff were the primary gate keepers. You need to be very on top of your own treatment and be your own advocate.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I believe I stated this in the review of Dr. Mag, but you need to be your own advocate. You need to ask questions, even though you don’t know what to ask. I had to call the call center number on multiple occasions after hours, when I had questions. I was told I would receive calls from the nursing staff regarding our fert report and if I should take the HCG trigger when my estrogen was going sky high, but I never had contact initiated by them. I also had to call to get our PGT-A test results when we had been waiting for about 5 weeks when we were told we’d have results in 2-3 wks. Response time is not always the quickest to say the least, and you have to call a call center and cannot call the clinic directly.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
This was my first IVF cycle and even though I had done quite a bit of research on what to expect, I usually met with a different nurse during each appointment, maybe once in a while I would have the same nurse twice. During the retrieval process it was common for the nurse or NP to say “oh, is this is your first cycle?” To which I was always surprised that they didn’t know that from looking at my chart. I was at times called by the wrong name, however, the nurse would apologize.
During retrieval day, I was pretty sick after the retrieval (due to OHSS and from anesthesia) I was recovering in the post op room, when the nurse came in and said “you’re ok to leave when you feel ready”. I could hear the doctor’s voice outside in the hallway, but he never came in to see how I was, or just to touch base. I understand that may not be the norm for fertility clinics, but when you can hear your doctor and you are ill, it leaves you feeling like your physical well being doesn’t mean much.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
The treatment protocol I was put on for retrieval was gonal F, low dose HCG, cetrotide, Lupron and HCG trigger. I was stimmed for 9 days, with retrieval on day 11. They retrieved 22 eggs, only 6 mature enough to fertilize and only 1 embryo made it to day 5-6 blast. I was told after the fact that I probably should have been stimmed for another 1-2 days which would have given us a few more embryos.
For FET, I was put on an immune protocol consisting of prednisone, Z pak, baby aspirin, Claritin, Benadryl, low dose naltrexone, Pepcid, extradiol, progesterone suppositories and progesterone in oil injections. I also did a HCG wash and intralipids 2 days prior to transfer. I later learned that the immune protocol is “smoke and mirrors” - there are few interventions needed when you have an overactive immune system, and there is specific testing which will tell you that you in fact have an over active immune system. But I was just told to start taking all the above mentioned meds, that it’s “protocol”. This part of the process seemed very odd to me as I’ve never been pregnant or miscarried, so why would I need to go on all of these meds as a “just cuz” type of scenario?
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The nursing staff means well, they are kind and caring. They are very busy, and don’t have much time to spend with you. They ask if you have questions, but if you don’t know what to ask, it’s difficult. There were times I was given instruction by the nurse at my appointment, but then my treatment plan sheet explaining my meds and dosing wouldn’t match - I would have to call the call center or send a message through the portal to clarify. I was never properly instructed how to do injections and had to reference YouTube on multiple occasions.
Describe your experience with CNY Fertility Colorado.
I would say the best thing about this clinic is that it is the lowest price if you are paying out of pocket. Be aware that even though they advertise as being the lowest price for IVF out there, it will come at a cost as you will likely have to go through multiple cycles to have success here. The treatment protocols are not individualized and they are not modified through your cycle. The doctor is knowledgeable, but he is busy and not accessible majority of the time. After reflecting on my retrieval, I was triggered too early and I believe it was because they wanted to do the retrieval on a Friday vs. a Saturday or Sunday.
You have to advocate for yourself. I was not given the whole truth about our embryo, that it was poor quality even though it was normal after chromosomal testing - the likelihood our transfer would have been successful was very unlikely, but I was never informed. If you can look at other places and afford it, save yourself the time, money and agony of having a failed cycle.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The IVF cost was $3595 as my husband is a Veteran and we paid in full - it is closer to $4,000 if no discount. The other costs were $150 for hysteroscopy, $695 for FET. Meds cost ~$3,000 for retrieval, FET Mets ~$300-400.
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Only one embryo to transfer for my situation, however, I do know that Dr. Mag tends to say that he does not advise multiple embryo transfer d/t risk to the mother and the babies. Ultimately, they ask you how many embryos you want to transfer... i was asked on multiple occasions how many we were transferring, which was irritating when you only have one embryo.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
- did not call with specific instruction for trigger when I was borderline OHSS (I was told the NP was going to call to give the final instruction)
- did not get a call with our fertilization report the day after retrieval
- had to call to follow up on the results from PGT-A testing 1-2 wks after we were told we’d have results
- consistently received conflicting info from nurses verbal instruction vs. printed out instruction on treatment plan
- did not give me full results on our embryo quality prior to transfer
- no documentation on my hysteroscopy that was completed at this clinic

During my follow-up call with Dr. Magarelli, he didn't seem to care about any information or research articles I had found to explain my poor retrieval. He just said I have poor egg quality and need higher doses of medications (like really high)...I spent half of my consult telling him my lab values. When I brought up that I read a very small percentage of women do not respond to lupron only trigger and found some articles on it, he dismissed me and said that's not a thing and he's never had anyone not respond to the Lupron trigger
[CNY Fertility Center] are busy and like a factory. I feel like they have too many patients, but I guess that's how they can offer such low prices...Because they have so many patients, I felt like I didn't have anyone paying attention to my cycle...The nurses seemed overwhelmed. Some were good and seemed to know what they were talking about. I spoke to a different nurse every week
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
During my follow-up call with Dr. Magarelli, he didn't seem to care about any information or research articles I had found to explain my poor retrieval. He just said I have poor egg quality and need higher doses of medications (like really high). My estrogen was 3,600, so I disagree and would prefer to not get OHSS. I spent half of my consult telling him my lab values. When I brought up that I read a very small percentage of women do not respond to lupron only trigger and found some articles on it, he dismissed me and said that's not a thing and he's never had anyone not respond to the Lupron trigger. Well guess what, I didn't! I had another retrieval at a different clinic (my doctor actually cut my follistim dose in half as he said I was already overstimulated) and had significantly better results. I'm currently pregnant from my first fresh transfer. Dr. Magarelli was dismissive and made me feel hopeless, when in reality, he was wrong.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Don't go see him.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I had a follow up with him while at CNY (at CNY you basically didn't have one doctor following you). During the follow-up, I had to tell him about myself and my retrieval. He didn't even bother to look anything up in the chart prior. It was a waste of my time.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
I was on 300 units of follistim and 150 units of menopur and double lupron trigger. He wanted to increase my follistim dose to 450 units for a second retrieval.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The nurses seemed overwhelmed. Some were good and seemed to know what they were talking about. I spoke to a different nurse every week. I was a travel patient and my last set of lab values were never followed up on even though I called and messaged on the portal. When I called, I was told they did not receive them (but I verified they were sent by the lab). If they had looked at the lab values, my trigger would've changed and i think I would've had very different results.
Describe your experience with CNY Fertility Colorado.
They are busy and like a factory. I feel like they have too many patients, but I guess that's how they can offer such low prices. People rave about the low prices, but if you google their revenue, they still made between 10-15 million in revenue last year. Because they have so many patients, I felt like I didn't have anyone paying attention to my cycle. If someone had, they may have seen my LH was so low the day of my Lupron trigger and would've asked me to come in the next day to check to make sure I had an LH surge. Or if they would've looked at my estrogen that dropped, they could've given me some HCG for a trigger and triggered me earlier.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I was monitored locally and followed by their travel team.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Retrieval was $3,900. Monitoring fee was $150 to monitor at my local lab and radiology clinic and to have them follow the results. Transfer was $750 +$150 monitoring fee.
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I only had 1 embryo to transfer. Dr. Magarelli was not consulted on what to do with this .

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I already described what went wrong in previous sections. They also had me take 3 random days of birth control pills after doing baselines on day 5 and then start my stims right after with out ever doing another ultrasound. By the time I went in for my first scan, I was basically already ready to trigger with 2 large follicles. I had to stim for extra days to let the others catch up and lost those 2 and I had to order more meds (I was OOP). I had an estrogen of 3,600, but only had 7 eggs, 4 mature and 1 fertilized. I'd like someone to tell me what was making all of that estrogen, because it sure wasn't my 4 mature eggs. And 3 of those eggs disintegrated.
Although I believe that he is a bright doctor and knows what he is doing, he overlooks some things such as I was taking a supplement for months that was actually worsening my PCOS. ... Dr. Mag[arelli] is very set in his ways and isn't open to suggestions. He is not always the best listener, or maybe just wants to push his agenda. As others have mentioned, he likes to push IVF and procedures (of course, this is how he is paid.)
I chose this clinic [Repro Med and Fert Ctr] because my health insurance was accepted here. However, after already establishing care and getting expensive diagnostic procedures done, it has been alluded to me that the IUI/IVF side of their clinic does not run insurance and you must self pay. I've spent many hours being the middle man between my insurance company and the clinic. Prior auths have not been completed properly, and would not be attempted at all without my push.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Make sure to be your own patient advocate. I know medical things and do lots of research and still felt uncomfortable pushing back or asking for some things. And if you have health insurance that covers infertility, yikes, good luck.. It's been a nightmare for me.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
After several appointments the office staff was pleasant towards and seemed to know me by name. However, don't expect to see Dr. Mag after initial consult or for a specific procedure, which he ran me through a bunch of expensive tests that I didn't need.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
IUI was suggested initially since I just had an ovulation problem. I told him I would like to just try ovulation meds to start with. Letrazole 2.5mg increasing by 1 tablet over 4 days was tried for two cycles. Unfortunately, my follicles did not grow with either cycle and we will be moving on to injectable medications once it has been approved by my insurance. This doctor will not prescribe Clomid or Metformin.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The head nurse is wonderful. I feel like she really knows her stuff and you can tell she has been doing this a while. The others are very kind and mean well but seem less knowledgeable. Normally, I wouldn't have an issue with this as we've all got to learn somewhere, but considering how autonomous the nurses must be in this clinic, I feel like they were calling the shots more than they should have.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I am still in the middle of treatment, and honestly I have no idea where the money part lies. Sometimes they collect a co-pay, other times they don't. They definitely need their money up front. I've paid two separate $200 bills for services that have not yet been rendered. I feel like I had unnecessary diagnostic procedures done that others in my situation have not had to do.
What specific things went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Dr. Magarelli's whole approach is to end up with one healthy baby. He strongly encouraged that I transfer two embryos. I only transferred one...When planning my treatment, I was told multiple times (including via the portal), that I would have a transfer a certain month...[I felt he] brushed off my questions and provided rote responses. My concerns about painful procedures were discounted, and when I reported the pain level afterward, I was told that I was exaggerating.
It was very hard to get information at [CNY Fertility Center] appointments with each provider passing me off to someone else...Some days the monitoring appointments were quick and in-an-out. Other times, the wait was two hours...The IVF cycle costs were as posted on the website. My meds were $8k...Communication was poor and compassion was non-existent.
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I was initially optimistic about reviews indicating a no-nonsense approach. I was hoping for a scholarly doctor who could help me see my situation from a scientific perspective rather than my own place of fear. I felt small when asking Dr. Magarelli questions that ignored, barely answered, or "jokingly" mocked.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I would caution all patients that you can save money, but it can come at the cost of your emotional wellbeing. If the cost savings is the only way you can do IVF, then it is probably worth it.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I so strongly felt that I was just a number that I had zero confidence in the clinic by the time I was able to transfer an embryo. Staff did not return calls or portal messages. Dr. Magarelli brushed off my questions and provided rote responses. My concerns about painful procedures were discounted, and when I reported the pain level afterward, I was told that I was exaggerating.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
My stimulation was primarily HGH and Menopur. HGH was due to DOR. I did end up with a greater than expected number of eggs.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CNY Fertility Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Carla)
My primary nurse is no longer with the clinic. During my time there, the clinic was noticeably under staffed and under trained. It was very hard to get information at appointments with each provider passing me off to someone else.
Describe your experience with CNY Fertility Colorado.
My time at the clinic in its previous iteration as HQA was a true nightmare. Communication was poor and compassion was non-existent. For example, a nurse left a voice mail on a Friday evening that I could be having an ectopic pregnancy with no instructions or additional info. Nobody returned my calls or portal messages until Tuesday.
This place can give you a baby, but so can other clinics.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Some days the monitoring appointments were quick and in-an-out. Other times, the wait was two hours.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
The IVF cycle costs were as posted on the website. My meds were $8k. There were several unexpected costs, including that for the lab to resample my frozen embryos for genetic testing after a sufficient sample was not sent the first time.
Additionally, the clinic sent ghost bills years after treatment for "embryo storage" although they do not have my embryos.
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Dr. Magarelli's whole approach is to end up with one healthy baby. He strongly encouraged that I transfer two embryos. I only transferred one and have a living baby as a result.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Miscommunication is rife at this clinic.
While I was there, the clinic put all patients on the same cycle to do retrievals and transfers during a small 1-3 day window each month. When planning my treatment, I was told multiple times (including via the portal), that I would have a transfer a certain month. When the time approached to prepare for that cycle, the nurse tried to tell me that I misunderstood and could not start. I had to escalate the issue over a course of days to get into the cycle as planned.
Staff failed out to fill out my FMLA paperwork despite several reminders, and I missed my work's deadline as a result. After I finally received the paperwork, it was so shoddily filled out that my work rejected it. I had to complete the paperwork myself for the nurse's signature, which is exactly what I suggested weeks before but was told they would take care of it.
Another time, I called and left a message that I had some concerns about a procedure they were scheduling without pain medication. I received a portal message that the procedure was cancelled, and they did this without ever interacting with me.
I
Doctor Magarelli is very scientific and to the point. He is caring. Blunt and honest. He has done his research and has number to prove it. Just wish he took a step back and made sure we were ready to implant after miscarriage at 28weeks. We thought we were, he said after we failed pregnancy test that we weren't. ... I did hcg 2x daily, gonal-f and menipur at night daily throughout the retrieval process. Lab work and ultrasounds every other day. Large hcg 10,000mcg injection IM 36hrs prior to retrieval. Another labdraw 12 hours after hcg injection to verify you did it. After retrieval they send you a message notifying how many eggs were retrieved. If they progress they notify you by portal if the embryos stop developing they call you and schedule an appt to "discuss why". If the do progress they have you wait at least 3 months. Then estradiol and progesterone injections prior to implant along with baby aspirin.
Communication is not their [Repro Med and Fert Ctr - CO Sp] strong suit. Sometimes feels like cattle moving through the clinic. You may be first appointment of the day but they will still take you back 20 minutes late. The lab techs are phenomenal ... A LOT of turnover. There was a new medical assistant at every visit. A lot of drama overheard in the waiting room. ... Communication is not the best. Too much turnover with the medical staff. Was hard getting fully comfortable when there is a different face you see.

$9300 for retrieval implant and embryo testing the first time, 3 months later when we tried retrieval again price was $10300. Medications were extra. I paid close to $6000 on medications each retrieval. This was through the "discount" pharmacy. For each implant, paid $3000 for medications

I only saw Dr. Magarelli for the consultation and during egg retrieval. My first embryo transfer was done by a totally different doctor...he was very straightforward and blunt, which I actually liked about him. He just seem to be extremely busy all the time...The price is what made me choose Dr. Magarelli. His prices are very affordable, which is why we moved forward with tge IVF process
[CNY Fertility Center- Colorado Springs] Strength- the price of ivf Weakness- they mostly communicate through the portal, so dont expect any phone call unless it an urgent matter. you will be rushed in and out as quickly as possible. After my negative pregnancy test, i never heard from them again not even for a follow up. They seemed very unorganized at times.

During my 1st and ivf cycles. I only saw Dr. Magarelli for the consultation and during egg retrieval. My first embryo transfer was done by a totally different doctor. My 2nd ivf cycle i saw Dr. Magarelli for eye retrieval and he actually did my embryo transfer. Honestly he was very straightforward and blunt, which I actually liked about him. Make sure you ask a lot of questions about the medications, costs and embryo storage. If you feel like you are being rushed ask if you can schedule another appointment or phone consult additional questions and concern.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
It was so many couples doing IVF at the same time. It seemed like they never really recognized you. The clinic felt like a revolving door and the appointments felt rushed.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
In my 1st ivf cycle 2 of my follicles grew to big after about 5 days of stimulation. Instead of canceling the cycle, he went ahead with the egg retrieval and i only got one embryo. My 2nd ivf cycle was the exact same protocol, which resulted in 1 embryo as well. My medications were omnitrope .4ml nightly
gonal f iu in stomach each morning
menopur 225 iu intramuscular injection at night
cetrotide

They were very unorganized at times. They would tell me one thing and when i got to the clinic nobody seemed to know what i was talking about or what was going on. I was supposed to get instructions on when to start a medication and i had to call several times to get the information needed, which was frustrating because i had to start the medication that day.
He [Dr. Paul Magarelli] was short and our consult felt rushed. When questions were asked he talked so fast he was barely understood...was friendly at first and his office was comfortable. He also had beneficial handouts and props that he would use as examples but would talk too fast and when he would write down info for you to take, it was rushed and nearly impossible to read. I went back after testing for results and he was short and just said "these are the results, this is basically your only option, when do you want to start? Oh and did they talk to you about financing yet? " I felt like a number instead of a client.
The nurses [at Magarelli Fertility] were friendly, welcoming, and willing to describe what and how they were going to do things. They respected privacy and made sure I was comfortable...After them telling me they would call from the lab to tell me the cost and if insurance covered anything before running tests, they sent off my blood. After a couple of weeks, I received a bill from the lab for several hundred dollars and a number to call for results. I was misinformed about the test and never got a call and was therefore stuck paying for the lab tests...The clinic is comfortable and clean and the desks appeared organized. There is plenty of space for privacy and each office had a closable door for privacy. The walls were not very thick as we could here a couple speaking next door. We were talked to about costs and financing before we even met with the doctor as if to make sure we were committed before eating the doctors time.

We were treated as a number and never went over results in detail to tell us what to fix it what our options were. We just got told IVF is the best option and when do you want to start. Also I had expressed interest once asked, in having genetic blood testing done. After them telling me they would call from the lab to tell me the cost and if insurance covered anything before running tests, they sent off my blood. I’m of advanced maternal age so Dr M. immediately put me on Estradiol 2mg twice per day. I was also prescribed hGh Injectables every night for about 10-days prior to IVF Injectables Gondal-F and Menopur. ... Dr. Magarelli is super charismatic and seems invested in our success. ... He explained things very quickly at times, and seemed eager to get through my questions - which I have a lot of! On the whole, we went with Dr Magarelli due to him as a person. Praying for round 1 success.
The front office staff [Magarelli Fertility] are very kind and appear to really care about you and your success. The nurses and coordinators work really hard to provide timely responses to messages on the patient portal (but this can be challenging with their heavy caseloads). While some systems, ie Patient Portal could use “tightening” we are happy with this clinic. So far, so good!

If you are highly analytical, Dr Magarelli may not be the person for you. However, if you are a “people person” and trusting he’s your guy!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Dr Magarelli utilizes a “patient portal” for all communication. Everything is done electronically and I have a slight preference for paper and things (like my ART Calendar) printed in Black & White. I also enjoy building relationships with people, so the patient portal can feel a bit cold at times.

Gabby is very patient and has a sweet disposition that I appreciate. However she is one person, and I believe her caseload is rather large. It took her some time to develop my ART Calendar, and also takes her more than 48-hours to respond to some messages on my patient portal. On the whole, I am doing my best to be just as patient as Gabby (during what is a rather complex time, for a complex procedure).

At the initial appointment, [Dr. Magarelli] seemed kind and knowledgeable. However, during this appointment he pushed pretty hard for IVF. At this point, we hadn't even been trying for a whole year. The next time I saw him was at my IUI insemination. After I had a negative HCG, the last time I saw him was when I had ovulated on my own before being able to have a trigger shot. The fact that he pushes IVF so hard and barely sees non IVF patients is a huge red flag. His condescending demeanor when I had concerns about a new diagnosis sent me running for good reason. From what I hear he is great at affordable IVF, but lackluster for any other patient.
During my time at this clinic [Magarelli Fertility], I had one prescription not called in and another not done correctly. The second time I had to call the clinic multiple times while at the pharmacy and wound up having to go back to the clinic ( 30 mins away) to pick up a script. They failed to call me with a negative HCG and I had to ask at my first ultrasound for my next cycle...The clinic is so disorganized that when I called saying I was skipping a cycle to go out of town, they told me to still come in. After that ultrasound, the tech was so confused as to why I was there and basically wasted both of our time and my money. They put in the authorization for a surgery wrong so I found out ten minutes before going into surgery that my insurance gave the ok for it. I could go on and on. Moral of the story only go here if you need IVF for a lower price than the other clinic in town.

The only way I would go here is if it is the only way you can afford IVF. You need to advocate for yourself hard. Don't be afraid to call the office or even show up to get the information you need. If you really want to talk to Dr. Mag, push for it and don't let him give a crap answer that lets him leave the room quicker.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Number is the only choice other than human on here. I did not feel like a human, but also didn't exactly feel like a number either. Because I was doing IUI, I often felt less than and an after thought. They got me in and out quickly.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
For both cycles, I was on Letrozole for 5 days. The only IUI I had a trigger of novarel. The second I ovulated on my own. For both cycles, I had 3 follicle mature. Both resulted in a negative HCG.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I saw the actual nurse only a few times more than Dr. Mag. They came in to discuss protocol or any questions that required at least a nurse (basically things Dr. Mag should've been doing). The ultrasound tech and LPN? were both so kind and the people I saw the most. These two would be the only reason to stay at this clinic.

Strengths: More affordable than most and conveniently located (for me personally) Weakness: poor communication, IVF, IVF, IVF mentality, lack of organization (i.e. no phone call about negative HCG, did get a phone call after I cancelled the next HCG test) , and at times it seems like they are hiding things from patients.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I was lucky and only had to pay for the IUI procedure, labs, and semen analysis. The prices were good and well below market, except for labs. The labs should have been covered by insurance, but I had to pay out of pocket for them instead.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
During my time at this clinic, I had one prescription not called in and another not done correctly. The second time I had to call the clinic multiple times while at the pharmacy and wound up having to go back to the clinic ( 30 mins away) to pick up a script. They failed to call me with a negative HCG and I had to ask at my first ultrasound for my next cycle. Dr. Mag failed to even acknowledge that a new diagnosis I received from another doctor at his office during a cycle could be causing some of my problems if not all. The clinic is so disorganized that when I called saying I was skipping a cycle to go out of town, they told me to still come in.
He [Dr. Magarelli] came across arrogant in tone. He made it seem like nothing I did in the past was correct/good enough. For example, when I told him I had taken Clomid for 6 months, his response was, “Well that’s alarming! No one prescribes that drug anymore. I haven’t used it in 10 years. And no one should EVER take it for 6 months, consecutively!” We hung up the phone and I cried in my husband’s arms with regret for taking Clomid.
Either voice record or write down in detail each and every conversation you have with anyone and everyone at that office [Magarelli Fertility]. No one gives the same information - from the doctor himself to the secretary to the financial consultant to their website. Document, document, document...miscommunication and disorganization is beyond frustrating!...The receptionist, Cecelia, is extremely disorganized. Every time (not exaggerating) I called, she did not have correct answers to my questions. Here are a couple examples: 1. She told me that Dr. Magarelli had to be in the office in order for me to get bloodwork done, which I later found out (from the financial coordinator) was not true. 2. For my Day 3 FSH bloodwork, she told me that the clinic was closed on Saturday and Sunday so if Day 3 of my cycle was on a weekend, I’d have to wait until next cycle.
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
My husband and I only had a phone call consultation with Dr. Magarelli. He came across arrogant in tone. He made it seem like nothing I did in the past was correct/good enough. Either voice record or write down in detail each and every conversation you have with anyone and everyone at that office. No one gives the same information - from the doctor himself to the secretary to the financial consultant to their website. Document, document, document.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
When I went in to get my husband’s semen analysis kit, I told the secretary my name. She said, “we go by chart numbers here, do you know your chart number?” In addition, every woman is made to be on the same cycle because it’s easier for the clinic to manage. I am not sure if this is true in most clinics but it made me feel like just a number, not a unique individual.
Describe your experience with CNY Fertility Colorado.
A new patient should know that the receptionist, Cecelia, is extremely disorganized. Every time (not exaggerating) I called, she did not have correct answers to my questions. Here are a few examples: 1. This was also false information. 3. She failed to communicate that my husband needed an appointment to drop off his semen analysis kit. He was abstinent for five days and then was told his semen would not be tested because he didn’t have an appointment. It would have been nice for her to tell me this information when I picked up the kit.

In addition, during our phone call consultation with Dr. Magarelli, he told us that my husband needed to come in and get a semen analysis kit. He explained that my husband needed to be abstinent for 2-5 days and then bring in the kit for testing. Nothing was ever mentioned about needing an appointment to drop off the kit. My husband was abstinent for five days and then was told by Cecelia (the receptionist) that his semen would not be tested because he didn’t have an appointment. We then made an appointment with Cecelia (the receptionist) for the following week to drop off the kit. Four hours later, Christina (the financial coordinator) called and said that my husband needed cancel his kit drop off appointment because he needed to make an appointment to be seen by Dr. Magarelli BEFORE he dropped of the kit. This miscommunication and disorganization is beyond frustrating!
he [Dr, Magarelli] started me on supplements like CoQ10, DHEA, vitamins B, C & D and Estrace to control my cycles. He then added 0.4ml Human Growth Hormone a week before the Stimulation Meds...recommends only one embryo transfer. Unless the women has had multiple miscarriages, then he might put in 2 embryos...He has a soft spot for the military. He is very interested in every patients case and wants to work towards that positive outcome. Dr. Magarelli is very understanding and is always available for a hug.
They [Magarelli Fertility] tried to do all the monitoring in a certain time span in the mornings. Mine was always after 9am. It went smoothly... Stim meds (plus Human Growth Hormone) Cody about $5,000.00, Seman analysis was $80.00...Strength of the clinic is friendliness and care. Weakness of the clinic is reachability, call backs and communication. To be honest, everyone’s cycles may differ so it’s hard to say what else is strength or weakness.

What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Listen to his ideas and yes, some cost extra money but they might heighten your chances of a positive outcome.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
They’re very kind during appointments and try to take time for extra questions when in the office.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
To know what he’s working with, he has a scope and HSG done.
Then he started me on supplements like CoQ10, DHEA, vitamins B, C & D and Estrace to control my cycles. He then added 0.4ml Human Growth Hormone a week before the Stimulation Meds.
The Stimulation meds were Menopur (4vials), Gonal F (150 units).
My first appointment after starting the Stim Meds was day 5. Urine sample, blood draw and vag. Ultrasound to check in the eggs.
Describe your experience with your nurse at CNY Fertility Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Cindy)
Nurse, Cindy, is bubbly and sweet, but lacks communication skills. All her messages are in lower caps and seem rushed. She doesn’t answer the nurse line (extra cell phone for after hours) on the first call, you have to leave a message and hope she calls back. In the clinic she’s very helpful, but once it closes, you’re kind on your own.
Care coordinator, Gabby, always sends messages with important information and comes in during your visits before retrieval and makes sure you have enough syringes or medications, etc.
The staff is helpful and try to help when at the office. If there is a problem the office manager listens and try’s to set it straight.

Strength of the clinic is friendliness and care.
Weakness of the clinic is reachability, call backs and communication.

I luckily had a referral for Dr. Magarelli, so I did not have to pay for in office visits or the scope/HSG procedure.

Stim meds (plus Human Growth Hormone) Cody about $5,000.00, Seman analysis was $80.00
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
After the egg retrieval, you’re supposed to get a call on fertilization day one. I did not receive a phone call but a portal message, with information about eggs missing. It was very impersonal. And when I called that I wanted more information, I did not receive it until day 5 of the embryo stage. Sadly the one embryo I had, did not continue to grow.
I was on OHSS precautions [with Dr. Paul Magarelli] because I had to many follicles. For TI with injections I was taking 150 units of Gonal F and they cancelled my cycle because there were to many mature eggs...I liked his approach when it comes to eSET... We transferred one the 1st time and 2 embryos the 2nd and 3rd time that we did FETs... they plan transfer for only 2-3 days of the month and everybody's body needs to adapt to the same schedule.
They [High Quality Affordable Fertility Centers] usually work with my schedule and are great at having available dates for monitoring. And if it is an emergency, like when I was having a miscarriage they see me ASAP...They are great at monitoring FETs...They are not so good monitoring when I comes to TI with injections...They work with you and your specific need, but they are pushy toward IVF/FETs They are compassionate and caring. Definitely a strength is the people that works there.
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Paul magarelli is very kind and supportive. He always explained everything in a way that is easy to understand.
He can be a little pushy when it comes to IVF/FET and doesn't seem to like when you question some procedure. But at the end he is understanding and respectful of the decisions you make.
For example, I wanted to do TI with injections in between transfers and he completely understood my reasoning behind this decision.
He is trustworthy and makes you feel comfortable and safe.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Don't feel afraid to ask questions. This is a very difficult and most of the time overwhelming journey but don't be afraid... And you are not alone :)
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I felt mostly like a human. They are caring and a very big support. They were amazing when husband was deployed and I was doing the transfers by myself.
But also I feel like a number when they forget to call me with results or when I need to remind them things that they should not forget... Also feel like a number when they plan transfer for only 2-3 days of the month and everybody's body needs to adapt to the same schedule.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
Gonal F: for Egg retrieval I think it was 75 units and then 150 units until I had enough mature eggs. I was on OHSS precautions because I had to many follicles. For TI with injections I was taking 150 units of Gonal F and they cancelled my cycle because there were to many mature eggs.
Progesterone IM taken I believe a week before each transfer and supposed to take it until 12 weeks of pregnancy.

I believe it was $8500 for IVF, included one FET plus medication. Gonal F is expensive but we applied for compassionate Care for Military, so we paid like an extra $2500. And $1850 for each transfer after that.
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I went to a couple appointments where they were not sure why I was there for and I had to remind them.
They left me waiting in a room for a bout 45 min because they thought I was already seen. I just waited until it was obvious they forgot me lol.
I still think they are great!
De. Mag [Paul Magarelli] is a very nice person & explained everything in detal, sometimes more then once when we went into a fog and forgot what he just said. He truly seems to care about what he does & wants to help as many people as he can....I had an HGH protocol for egg retrieval. Not sure why, maybe that I'm on allery meds. It involved extra HGH shots starting early. The rest: gonal F, menopur, hcg trigger, cetrotide, Lupron trigger
The nurses [at High Quality Affordable Fertility Centers] seemed never to talk to one another or review my chart. Calling giving conflicting info, calling and saying they will call back and never do, write that "patient apperantly got wrong meds/med supplies" to the patient (I'm sure I wasn't supposed to see that) left me without information causing panic. Very un-sympathetic to the fact you are not a doctor or nurse and sometimes just need to verify what your doing. Seem nice when you visit though. A new nurse, Jody I believe is her name, seems to understand that saying you will call back means you call back.

Expect to have consultants with him but not have any appointments during your care with him, which is fine because his other 2 doctors are also great!
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Dr. Mag is great, it's the staff (or maybe lack of) that is terrible. You really have to be on top on all your own appointments and meds to make it through. Calls that never get called back, portal messages that you never received notification on, terrible nurses who seem annoyed that you called the after hours number to make sure you inject your meds correctly.

You may feel less of a person and more of a number, but most of the doctors and staff are very nice. The nurses though, not so much. The receptionist seems a little negletful as well, be very precise when speaking to her. Office is clean & prices are the best part.
Describe your experience with your monitoring appointments at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I don't live in the town that this clinic is located, still close enough to arrive from home within an hour. Yiu can only be seen from 7-9 am for monitoring. I have to always miss work and/or work from the car, meaning someone else had to drive me to the clinic, in order to get an appointment for monitoring (blood work has to be same day) its a good thing I have a pretty flexible work environment or I would never be able to have a job and work with this type of schedule.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Roughly -
$6000.00 for IVF meds
$9000.00 for one egg retrieval
$250 for embryo CCS testing (up to 8 embryos)
FET is $1850.00 plus meds (meds are $165 to $205)
ERA $1750.00 plus meds

I was doing a test and because I was never called back I had to wait & schedule the next month. We can't just drop work the next day because your unorganized.
Everytime I need prescription filled I have to call in to pharmacy then wait 3-5 days and call/portal the clinic to see if they received it. It's always not received or possibly in another patients chart (yes someone really told me that)
Portal worked great for about 3 months, it now takes about 5 mins to load, I never get notifications and I have voiced this over 5 times with multiple staff members with no resolution.
Dr. Magarelli is a well educated and experienced physician. It shows when he explains what is happening and what will happen. Although seems to be a little high strung, we felt he was more than competent to complete our process. We have the upmost confidence in what he does...My husband and I needed a little more laymans terms and time to completely understand. He took the time, although we did feel as we were a little inconveniencing him.
I had waited two weeks from the time I got my labs drawn to finally call to get results [from High Quality Affordable Fertility Centers]. Nurse Carla informed me that they usually give the lab results in person and not call or put them on the portal. It would have been nice to know versus waiting for a phone call...$8900 - Cycle fee w/screening for PGS $3500 - Added fee for PGD screening for up to 8 embryos at one time $400 - Anesthesia $12,800 - Total Cycle Fee, plus medications

Describe your experience with your nurse at CNY Fertility Colorado. (Assigned nurse: Amanda Lyon was my care coordinator- Carla was my nurse)
Nurse Carla I do without speaking to again. She did not take the time to explain what was going on, when I asked something she repeated what she had already said. She did not take the time to read my chart and proceeds to tell me what testing my husband needs to do, when all the while the reason we are there is because he is sterile. I felt she was very unknowledgeable and unprofessional. At one point I asked if 1 procedure and physician visit could be combined so that we didn't have to make 2 trips out of town- she told me no there are people who drive from other states to do different visits I could too. I though this was RUDE and completely unprofessional for a clinic of this nature.
Amanda was my care coordinator- She along the rest of the staff has always been great, more than helpful. She takes the time to explain things and answers questions sometimes late in the evenings. It shows she takes pride in what she does.

Dr. Magarelli actually suggested we use both embryos for transfer due to the poor quality. We did transfer two in both cycles... is a nice guy but blunt and to the point. I only saw him if something was concerning and the day of the retrieval...I feel like I was rushed with my questions and didn't get the full answer. This is during his clinic time. During the retrieval and transfer he was much more compassionate and excited for you.
I did not get the full results from my first ultrasound that I had done after confirming being pregnant [at High Quality Affordable Fertility Centers] . I was stressed for a whole week until I found out from reading my own results that I had to ask for...The best part about this clinic is the price. I don't remember that medication protocol that I used. It was actually different each cycle as one of the medications was discontinued. I started off with Menopur (2 vials) and Gonal-F (150) with my last cycle. My eggs tend to grow slowly then all of a sudden catch up. I was up to either 4 or 5 bottles of Menopur by the end. Both retrievals I've had they got 24-26 eggs so I got OHSS and had to eat a ton of protein. The Menopur was an IM injection by the way. The first time around I used Lupron at first then Menopur and Braville. I got my baby boy out of that one:)
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Jennifer his MA is very sweet and compassionate. She would always have a smile on your face and was pleasant to be around. I always relaxed a little more when she was around. The rest of the nursing staff seemed like they were there just for a job.

He [Dr. Magarelli] is a very knowledgeable doctor...He is confident and warm when talking to his patients. Even though he is a very busy man, he does take the time to say hi even though you’re only seeing the nurse that day. He answered every one of our questions and explained how his process worked. He also explained how he is able to make IVF affordable for his patients.... I am on short protocol to begin the cycle. My ovarian reserve is great...
The nursing staff [HQA Fertility Ctr] has been competent so far. However, you have to stay on your toes and make sure to ask the right questions.... The clinic is extremely affordable compared to the local alternatives. The nurses are great with blood draws and ultrasounds, always make you feel comfortable. The metro location is not available for most appointments, which is disappointing. They have been off on their estimates on other services rendered, like medications.

I informed the office a week in advance that my last birth control pill was a certain date. I was told this was okay and to report cycle day 1. Once I received my calendar, it was noted I had to take my last birth control pill on a different day. I was out of the prescription and almost started my period, which would have ruined the timing of the cycle. Thankfully I caught this and requested immediate refill.
Dr. Magarelli is not the warmest, fuzziest best friend kind of Dr, however he was frank when you had the chance to talk to him. He did seem to care about being honest and helping you to acheive pregnancy.... I do feel like they did tailor my treatment to my body and not to a 10 day or 12 day, etc. They extended it as needed based on response or adjusted meds as needed. I was on Lupron, Menopur, Gonal F protocol and they increased meds as needed.
There were a lot of changes going on with people at the time. They [HQAFC- CO Springs] were also working out kinks with a digital/portal system. Paperwork not being there or not knowing I had tests done previous-which were sent there already they couldn't find, etc.... Weaknesses-staff inconsistency, paperwork chaos, digital portal not working. Strengths-seemed to truly care, tailored treatment to my body, not a generalization.

We also did not know he would not be doing our egg retrieval until the morning of. So things weren't communicated well in that regard. However, they did provide me with Dr Magarelli's cell phone if I ever had a question.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
Stay on top of things, be your own advocate to make sure you are persistent on making sure your care gets priority and bring copies of all of your paperwork every visit as their system to digital only was not working well at all. Don't be intimidated by a Dr.'s personality and speak up if you need to-ask questions even if you feel stupid at the time.
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
It did seem like there was care and concern from staff, but still got lost in the mix of disorganization of the clinic and paperwork.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
Everything was mostly digitally on "the portal", but it did have it's problems. I know it was a new system for them so they were trying to work out the kinks, but at best it was really mainly used for email messages back and forth for lab results, increase meds, etc. I do feel like they did tailor my treatment to my body and not to a 10 day or 12 day, etc. They extended it as needed based on response or adjusted meds as needed. I was on Lupron, Menopur, Gonal F protocol and they increased meds as needed. They did strongly encourage acupuncture (his wife is an acupuncturist) and also encourage healthy diet and vitamin protocols, which was good.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
We did see different nurses most of the time. Carla was super sweet and compassionate in her care. Chasity was very compassionate and helpful as well. They did try to be available, but paperwork seemed to be an issue often. Also, calls would come from the New Mexico sister clinic too. Again, I think some of this was major change going on in the clinic and also a transition to digital/portal.
Describe your experience with CNY Fertility Colorado.
There were a lot of changes going on with people at the time. They were also working out kinks with a digital/portal system. Paperwork not being there or not knowing I had tests done previous-which were sent there already they couldn't find, etc. That was a bit challenging. They had many wonderful office staff there to listen and answer questions. Amanda was superb! Christina was as well. The lab staff was great too. They really did try to help us achieve pregnancy with live birth.
Weaknesses-staff inconsistency, paperwork chaos, digital portal not working.
Strengths-seemed to truly care, tailored treatment to my body, not a generalization.
Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
It is HQA fertility center. High Quality Affordable Care. They reduce the cost to make it more affordable for anyone to have a baby. This is not the exact number but like $9200 or so and this include PGS testing, but not medication costs or any other MFI procedures.
Describe Paul Magarelli's approach to eSET (elective single embryo transfer) vs. multiple embryo transfer at CNY Fertility Colorado.
There motto is one healthy baby, but they did encourage to transfer the only 2 PGS tested embryos we had. We did trust the medical advice they gave.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Our PGS results came in, but somehow they thought we had already gotten a call or something already. Finally I called and was able to retrieve them. They were very apologetic though.
He [Dr. Magarelli] was friendly the first time we met him for the consultation and seemed to think IVF would work great for us since we only had MFI... After we got our genetic testing on our two embryos back he became cold and made it sound normal. We went in to go over what happened and what the next steps are. He was rude and didn't answer our questions.... He said we need to start again next month and that we wouldn't do anything different.
The clinic staff [HQA Fertility Centers] is nice when you go in for a consultation. As soon as you commit to treatment you are really just a number. They don't remember who you are or what you are having done. When you go in for an appointment be ready to wait for a while after your scheduled time. The clinic does not have up to date equipment. Everything seems a bit dated. Don't expect them to call with results when they say they will. You are waiting patiently for important results but they will forget about you.
How was your experience with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I feel as though I was very naive in the beginning of treatment and was too trusting. This doctor used a form to explain how everything worked during the consultation. It showed the normal course of stimulation and also gave some percentages of success if you did genetic testing and if you didn't. I don't feel that he explained that you may not even have embryos to try implantation with and in that case it doesn't even matter what the percentages are. He was friendly the first time we met him for the consultation and seemed to think IVF would work great for us since we only had MFI. I had him one time to do my transvaginal ultrasound since the lady who usually did it at my other appointments was on maternity leave. He seemed to do it differently and got way different information than the other lady did. After we got our genetic testing on our two embryos back he became cold and made it sound normal. We went in to go over what happened and what the next steps are. He was rude and didn't answer our questions. Of course we wanted to know what had happened and what we would do next. He just told us that percentage wise it was normal that we didn't get any normal embryos. He said we need to start again next month and that we wouldn't do anything different. Why would I do the same thing again with no changes and hope for a different outcome? There was no compassion and no answers. We felt defeated and he made us feel like failures.
What's one piece of advice would you give a prospective patient of Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
I would advise a prospective patient to do all your research ahead of time and find out what will happen in the worst case scenario. What will he do different if treatment fails?
During treatment, were you treated like a number or a human with Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado?
There were several times that the nurse came into the exam room during my stims and called me by the wrong name or had the wrong chart, etc. It was as if they didn't know or care who you were when there. All they cared about is that they had another couple paying them. I checked into the front desk and printed my name out each time. I feel like there should not have been a mix up with who was there for an appointment. The nurse would laugh as if it was a joke when it happened. When things didn't work out and both of our embryos came back as abnormal after genetic testing we were just told okay lets do it again. There was no explanation, answers or support. They were ready to cash another check and said they wouldn't do anything different the next time.
Describe the protocols Paul Magarelli used in your cycles at CNY Fertility Colorado and their degree of success.
The protocol I was put on was Gonal F, Lupron and low dose HCG. I believe I was put on this protocol because we were only dealing with male factor and the doctor did not want to stimulate me too much. During the stims I only produced about 17 follicles and they weren't growing quick enough at one point. They increased the Gonal F at some point during the stims. I only ended up with 9 eggs retrieved and only 2 embryos in the end that were genetically abnormal.
Describe your experience with the nursing staff at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I only saw one nurse while I was in treatment at this clinic. I believe she was newer to the clinic. She is the one who would come in the room and call me the wrong name and realize she had the wrong person. She would laugh when she couldn't find the follicles during the transvaginal ultrasound. She was very unprofessional. The other times I was there I had a radiology tech who was very nice and had IVF done herself. Unfortunately, I only had her a few times before she left to have her baby. I could tell that she understood the heartbreak and emotions that came along with IVF.

Describe the costs associated with your care under Paul Magarelli at CNY Fertility Colorado.
Every little thing cost more. We paid for genetic testing and anesthesia. We paid for the IVF package and extra for all of the medications.

Describe the specific things that went wrong at CNY Fertility Colorado.
I waited patiently for my genetic testing results of our only two embryos after IVF retrieval. After not hearing back when I should have I contacted the lab that did the genetic testing. They told me that they gave the clinic my results over 3 days prior. I called the clinic and the woman says oh yes they are both abnormal and cannot be implanted. No information or anything. I had to wait two weeks to have an appointment after her telling me this. We were given no support or suggestions on where we can get support or genetic counseling. We were given no answers to what went wrong. Just pay us and try again.
